Part 2 of Part 1
Disclaimer: I'm not a part of Ichihime Or Ichiruki debates. Stan whoever. Just don't be a misogynist. I'm just observing the plot here.
---
Let's go back to the part where Orihime is upset af that she can't cheer him up (in that weird naked scene). At that point, Ichigo was struggling with his Hollow. Specifically upset and embarrassed that he couldn't protect Orihime.
Next, we've have the Grimmjow fight where Orihime is a spectator. She sees Ichigo for the first time in the mask and is unnerved if not outright scared (which is a valid reaction as a human, contrary to what most people think). In response, Ichigo is hyper aware of how uncomfortable she is. Eventually, she realizes that it's only surface reality and his life matters more than his consciousness.
CUT TO ULQUIORRA PLOT, WHICH IS...
If you're following me closely, a mixture of both these dynamics! 🎇
In Naruto, most villains are doubles of Naruto. So, Pein represented Naruto's own Kyubi self that he could not master. Similarly, Ulquiorra is also a part of Ichigo (it is insane how I overlooked it😭). It dawned on me after watching the Change opening sequence where Ulquiorra's face merges with Ichigo.
He represents Ichigo's own emptiness. The emptiness that Ichigo feels after his mom's death. Emptiness that he has always felt even before...a very young Ichigo tells his mom how sunsets make him sad.
What else represents emptiness? Hollows..duh. So Ichigo is definitely fighting emptiness even though it's not too pronounced. He's fighting it even though he wants to hide it (like he would hide from his mom/hiding is a big theme from the beginning). However, when the hollow comes out, and Inoue sees it (he's scared how she'd react, which is a VERY valid reason for people who hide their bad mental health), he's left in a vulnerable position.
Finally, after enough time in Hueco Mundo, Inoue understands the world of Hollows. She doesn't hate her enemies, instead...she has love for them. There is a point in the fight where the Hollow girl who wants to kill Orihime gets confronted that she's only doing it to "fill her emptiness."
But Orihime forgives them. Looking at Ulquiorra (like I said, an extension of Ichigo), she tells him that she's not scared of him...or his emptiness, which if you're following me so far, is a big nod to Ichigo's fears. She sees the emptiness, and she extends her hand (something that happens with Ichihime a lot by the way) and gives him her heart. A very beautiful gesture to emptiness.
That's it,
Why, I have a life. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Imagine with the Kurosaki Family and Toshiro
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine if Toshiro went with Isshin when Isshin went to investigate the world of the living and where he met Masaki. Instead of returning to the Seireitei, Toshiro stayed with Isshin and Masaki. Masaki saw Toshiro as her own son and Toshiro was adopted into the family. When Ichigo was born, Toshiro brought it upon himself to be the best big brother to Ichigo as he could. Funny enough, staying in the world of the living, Toshiro was able to grow up.
He was close with the Kurosaki siblings and barely got a peace of silence when the Kurosaki siblings were awake. He helped them with anything. He was entirely protective with the Kurosaki family. Masaki and the others always got a laugh whenever Isshin always attack Toshiro, especially when Toshiro kicked Isshin into a closet and locked him in.
Whenever there was a hollow situation, Toshiro had already dealt with it before it bothered people. However, it got hard when Ichigo grew up. On the day of Masaki's death, Toshiro was with Kisuke and Yoruichi and by the time he sensed Grandfisher and got to the location, it was already too late. He held Ichigo as he silently cried while Ichigo was crying loudly against him. He felt complete guilty but Isshin told him not to.
When Ichigo grew up and became a Shinigami, Toshiro decided to reveal the truth to Ichigo about who he is but not who Isshin and Masaki are. He helped Ichigo train and went to the Seireitei with Ichigo and his group to save Rukia.
This is all I have for now.

Thoughts and prayers for me because I just finished the Ichigo and Ulquiorra final fight part.
Here are a few thoughts because I HAVE TO:
1. This is practically the Pein vs Naruto sequence. Before his final gash, Ulquiorra explicitly states how Ichigo doesn't understand the meaning of despair. Heart is what makes the human weak because it doesn't let them act rationally (and so Ichigo should've withdrawn because he was weak. And Inoue should have been scared because she was weak).
Pein says the same thing about love, although words it a bit differently.
2. Aesthetically...I MEAN...It is insane how gorgeous the whole scene is. Crescent moon, and Ulquiorra's final form. He is beautiful. And I don't state that easily. He belongs to the high Greek tragedies, but is also a sheer symbol of rationalism and nihilism of our modern times.
Ul is beyond beautiful. Biblical. Loyal. Fallen creature.
I won't compare him to Satan because nobody is a better Lord of Pandemonium than Aizen (Chef's kiss) (I haven't finished Bleach yet but I think that's what Aizen is modelled after)
3. Heart of the matter: Ichigo and Inoue (hero and heroin with same one brain cell 😭) are people who believe in strong ethics of fair fighting and mercy.
And so Ichigo went: you can cut my arm and leg too! (Preposterous and hilarious, and not to mention extremely dumb)
Time and again, Ichigo has been told to let go of this hesistant moral side. But 👏he 👏simply 👏doesn't 👏
Now there is a way to look at it:
This "merciful" side is very unique to humans (so like 4 people in the show). Soul society does it, but not always. In most cases, they stop fighting when the opponent is weak as a sign of power.
But in Ichigo's case, it is never arrogance. He's not a soldier even if he tries to be. If Inoue will heal their enemies, Ichigo would cut himself up to make sure the fight is fair. It's the same idea: even though you're my enemy, you have a right to exist because hello, we're not barbaric.
BUT ALSO, ASIA'S BELOVED MIX: Self-sacrifice ✨
/Selflessness and Asian plots deserve a thesis and not a Tumblr post/
4. Conclusion:
I was stunned. The pauses. The disappearance. It was heartbreaking (well, literally for Ul). He's like Icarus. Flew too close to the sun (Inoue/heart) and couldn't take it.
I know that most people hate Orihime. It is understandable because Bleach is homage to Japanese art of war and royal military history, and Orihime can come across anachronistic. She's the only female character (so far) who is so relevant to the fight but cannot fight. However, as a character, she's a metaphor and not a fighter. She represents the sun/hope/heart. In terms of plot unity, I'm not sure if that's a great fit, because the message of hope/heart unlike Naruto is built up in a VERY scattered manner. Instead, fighting styles are valorized. So it's not an easy fit.
Having said that, I think it's a necessary fit. It's writer's safety barrier so that they may not go overboard with romanticization of fighting styles, which is essentially what makes Bleach.
Just fighting styles and aesthetics cannot make a plot, it would need a heart, sooner or later.
