Justice for Latjor Tuel
Latjor Tuel was executed by Calgary PD on Saturday February 19th 2022 in broad daylight on 17th Ave. Another black man killed at the hands of police.
Latjor was a father, uncle, brother, son and member of our community. Latjor came to Canada almost 20 years ago looking for a better life and opportunity. He was a hard working man and an amazing man with a big heart; who would work hard to provide for both his family in Canada and South Sudan A man dedicated to his community known to many as some who inspired joy to those around him.
Latjor was an amazing man with a big heart. He was someone who loved to make people smile. He could put a smile on your face even if you were having your worst day. Latjor was also a former child soldier. Like many who fled the Civil war Latjor battled with his past, suffering from PTSD caused by his time as a former child soldier. He suffered from ongoing mental health crisis, He was going through a mental health crisis at the time of his murder. A clear cry for help. The Calgary PD is already trying to spin the story to fit their narrative, but they outnumbered him and chose deadly violent force instead of deescalating the situation. They say he had a weapon when he was only carrying a stick that was clearly shown in multiple videos of my fathers execution. They say he attacked a police dog, but they left out that they sicked this killer dog on him while he was clearly suffering through a mental health crisis, with multiple trained police around . A family member tried talking to them and telling them that he could deescalate the situation with Latjor as he was his cousin. Calgary PD refused to let him speak to Latjor and chose to release the K9 on him while he was already on the ground, clearly going through a crisis. When he tried to defend himself against this K9 and run, Calgary PD started shooting and even after my father was lying motionless on the ground, they still had their guns drawn. They can lie all they want, but there is VIDEO FOOTAGE. VIDEO FOOTAGE THAT THE POLICE ARE ALREADY TAKING DOWN. !!!!!! An officer picked up the stick from Latjors hand and placed it on the bus stop's glass. They kept using the word weapon, not specifying it as a tactic to paint a great man with a heart of gold as Someone who deserved to be executed the way he was by Calgary PD. The fact that such a great man had to die on the street at a bus stop is beyond disgusting; it is dehumanizing. Calgary PD could have done anything other than kill him in cold blood. Tazers, battons, pepper spray and months of training!!! Anything other than killing an innocent black man suffering from a PTSD episode. What we find most challenging about this situation is that there's more news coverage about the dog being in stable condition but no coverage about how the community is in shambles over losing one of their own.
We came to Canada to find stability and safety for our family and rebuild our communities. But instead, we were met with prejudice and racism. We live in a society where a black man's life is worth less than a dog.
CALGARY POLICE, WE NEED ANSWERS!!!!
WHY DID THE AMBULANCE ONLY TAKE THE DOGG TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!!!
WHY DID YOU LEAVE MY FATHERS LIFELESS BODY LYING ON THE CONCRETE FOR HOURS ? EYEWITNESSES SAY FROM 3:50-11 PM!!!!!!!
IS A BLACK MAN'S LIFE WORTH LESS THAN DOGG. A DOG THAT'S IN STABLE CONDITION WHILE MY FATHER LAYS DEAD RIDDLED WITH BULLET HOLES.
CALGARY PD IS REFUSING TO TALK, BUT THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO LIE THEIR WAY OUT OF THIS. THERE ARE VIDEOS AND PHOTOS!!!!
CALGARY PD WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS.
BLACK LIVES MATTER TODAY, TOMORROW AND YESTERDAY.
MY FATHERS MEMORY WILL NOT GO DOWN IN VAIN.
The money from this go fund me will go toward transporting Latjors body back to South Sudan at the request of his mother. It will also go toward funeral expenses and legal expenses and the rest to the family that Latjor worked so hard to provide for so that they can be allowed to greave in peace

Note
So apparently that post about Latjor Tuel is misleading. For one they were not informed of any mental health issues to be cautious of, the man had a knife and a "stick" and was reported to have hit someone with it. Police told him repeatedly to drop both while he was sitting then got up and they fired non lethal rounds. He then charged the police so they let loose a dog which he stabbed in the neck and they tazed him. Then while trying to arrest him he was shot with knife and stick still in hand
Damn

Calgary's Sudanese community is in mourning today after Calgary police shot and killed a Black man on Saturday night.
Laying flowers close to the scene of the shooting near the area of 45th Street and 17th Avenue S.E., community members shared stories of who they identified as Latjor Tuel — and expressed frustration at how police handled the situation.
"We are saddened and heartbroken at the incident that happened yesterday," said Khor Top, president of the South Sudanese Community of Calgary. "We are here to mourn and to show the support for Latjor and the family."
Members at the gathering remembered Tuel as a gentle and kind person who was a former child soldier from South Sudan.
They said he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of that experience, along with other mental health issues.
