so idk if this was obvious… but in mag 16 (arachnophobia) the ghost spider decides to resurface yearssss after the original childhood trauma. ok so. in the statement, the giver mentions the building’s infestation of little silver worms right before they go on to talk about the first time the spider came back. bro. the web made the spider come back at the time prentiss was in that building in order to make sure that someone would come to investigate, causing the worms to return to the institute. causing jon to get his corruption mark. bro its always the web its always been the webbbbb

Almost halfway into the season before we got our first official Web statement, and it has the most meta intro ever. Even the title is meta!

Acranophobia: Hey! This is a show about fear! And in the show about fear, the fear of spiders is the most important! The premise of the series is that spiders are the worst fear of them all!

The Magnus Archives episode 16: The Big Bad of this Series Will be a Spider!

First time we meet a statement-giver marked by the Web and he's a smoker.

Grabbed these quotes mostly because I love how vivid the descriptions are. Crawling horrors twitching and spinning their filth? Spindly multitudes? Jonny really went off wth this.

But the other thing that stuck out to me was the Beholding themes. Throughout the episode, Carlos talks about how he is fine living with spiders so long as he doesn't know they are there. He refers to placebos and self-deception and deliberate ignorance. It's not the objective fact of the spiders themselves that bothers him; spiders are an inescapable reality he can live with. What he can't live with is knowing about spiders.

Poor Carlos. He was definitely being targeted by the Web prior to the ghost spider showing up. I mean, I live in Australia (the spider capital of Earth) and I don't think I've seen a spider in my house for almost a year. This guy has hundreds show up in his garden and now they are getting into his new apartment once a month? The only explanation is that he pissed off the Mother of Puppets bad enough to be targeted personally.

Big fucking mood. I'm not really bothered by spiders (again, I'm Australian, so if I was it would be like being afraid of sunshine) but if one gets within arm's reach of me and then makes a sudden movement? All bets are off motherfucker.

C'mon man* this isn't cool. At least let him have enough free will to deal with the spider on his own. Compelling him to go over to it and kick a hole in his TV is just cheating.
