Skye Nicolson says she is open to facing Amanda Serrano over 12 three-minute rounds if that gets the fight on. The Australian is targeting a comprehensive win on Saturday night over Serrano’s old Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight belt at Bleaulive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, live worldwide on DAZN, to stake her claim for the mega showdown.

Nicolson (9-0 1 KO) is fighting Mahfoud (14-1 3 KOs) for the WBC strap that Serrano vacated in December, a move Nicolson has previously stated was due to the seven-weight champion not wanting to face her, and not down to wanting to fight over the 12 three-minute round distance.

The Australian star has landed the World title fight she’s been craving, albeit against tough Dane Mahfoud instead of the Puerto Rican. The duo previously met for undisputed in September 2022, with Serrano prevailing on points. Although Nicolson has put the Serrano fight to one side to focus on the task at hand, the 28-year-old can’t help that it’s a fight that she’s asked about all the time – and aims to deal with Mahfoud in better fashion than Serrano to prove she’s ready to take on the living legend. “I can only fight who they put in front of me,” said Nicolson. “Serrano is the dream fight, and to have been boxing for undisputed in my tenth fight would have been legendary, but it didn’t happen. It is what it is; I’m not looking past Sarah. I’ve got a good opponent in front of me, and it’s for the best belt in boxing, in my opinion, so I am fully focused on the job in front of me, and we’ll see what’s next after that. I hope the Serrano fight happens; I am ready and waiting. I want the best; I feel like I am constantly saying it, but it’s true. I wanted the Serrano fight in my eighth and ninth fights. I have Sarah for my tenth fight, so maybe it’s Serrano in my 11th fight; who knows? I want the belts, so I am going to keep pushing for that. “12 x 3s suits my style. I’m a patient fighter; I love the longer rounds, so for me, it makes sense. Sen Menendez indictment of the day....

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Federal prosecutors in New York filed new charges Thursday against United States Sen. Bob Menendez, the New Jersey Democrat, of violating a prohibition on members of Congress from acting as an agent of a foreign principal. The superseding indictment said Menendez "made multiple requests for the U.S. Department of Justice to commence an investigation against another person for allegedly failing to register under FARA." The indictment was filed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday. It says the conspiracy occurred from January 2018 to June 2022. It includes four new charges and appears to mark the first time a sitting member of Congress has ever been charged with conspiracy for a public official to act as a foreign agent. The indictment said Menendez conspired with his wife, Nadine Menendez, and New Jersey businessman Wael Hana to have the senator act as an agent of Egypt. Perry, Iowa school shooter

The suspect behind the Perry High School shooting has been reportedly identified as senior Dylan Butler, local outlet WHO 13 reports. Police confirmed the shooter’s identity. While several were injured, one boy, a 6th grader, was killed. The shooting took place in the morning prior to the start of the school day during a breakfast program. The Thursday morning shooting in the Iowa school around 25 miles northwest of Des Moines, Iowa saw three people injured, including school principal Dan Marburger who was rushed into surgery.*** Butler allegedly had a TikTok account where he went by the username "tooktoomuch." The student’s last post was him inside a bathroom stall with a duffel bag on the ground next to him. The still video featured the words "now we wait" with a song called "Stray Bullets" playing. Police are investigating these assets. HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A grand jury declined to file charges against the man who shot and killed a robber at a southwest Houston taqueria last year. The shooting happened on Jan. 5, 2023, at the El Ranchito taqueria on South Gessner Road. Eric Eugene Washington, 30, was shot and killed as he walked through the restaurant robbing people, according to police. In the wake of the shooting, there were calls for the shooter to be charged. Some called him a "vigilante." Others called the man who shot and killed the robber a hero.***

In 2013, he and others were charged with capital murder after a man was killed during an armed robbery, according to prosecutors. It's unclear exactly when he was released, but the most recent time he was arrested was Dec. 16 when authorities said he pushed his girlfriend to the ground and scratched her. MY YEAR IN REVIEW - 2023

Well what a year its been, a glorious hot summer, festivals, shooting exclusively for Ashnikko, and a few bucket lists ticked off.

Shooting a few rock bands at Lytham Festival (Motley Crue and Def Leppard) and discovering some great new bands at Neighbourhood Festival (CMAT and Picture Parlour).

My favourite photos this year were featured in an article on Louder Than War here:

Milky Way from Wargasm is my ultimate favourite gig shot of the year - I took this after I had done my favourite list. I have entered this into the EPAs photo competition. I love the back lighting on her hair as it flares up just at the right moment, the way the edge of her coat is tinged blue by the lighting. BOOM!

It’s been 15 years since I leapt into the music business with Mudkiss Fanzine. It's 8 years since I started to shoot for academy music group as a house photographer and 10 years louder than war It’s been another memorable year in the pit.

And a thanks to the PR + artists who made it possible to get into shows in the first place. My favourite show of the year to watch was Pink in Bolton - just spectacular. This year's top highlights have been getting interviewed and photographed for the Observer and Guardian on reaching 60 and still using the punk DIY spirit and having a photo shoot with the great photographer Perou. I was delighted to have won a one-off Marilyn Monroe hand-painted jacket by Dave Sharp 2024 has some promising shows lined up (of course pending accreditation). I've also been asked to do a talk/interview in March 2024 and I have entered a photo competition for the first time ever - wish me luck. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

You don’t have to be a Swiftie to have been touched in some way by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, a stadium arena experience that kicked off in March. The tour, which pays homage to every era of the artist’s illustrious 17-year career, is set to become the biggest tour of all time only a third of the way through its run.

If you live in one of the 20 locales Swift, 33, performed at in the last five months, your city has likely seen a boost in revenue from the hundreds of thousands of attendees who traveled from near and far. If you don’t—or simply couldn’t snag tickets due to the cost or the now infamous Ticketmaster snafu—chances are you’ve seen clips of the three-and-a-half hour show from celebrities’ Instagram stories.

While there’s much to say about the music, costumes, and production, the impact of the Eras Tour is starkly reflected in the numbers: a projected gross of $2.2 billion in North American ticket sales alone, and hundreds of millions of streams, reaching a nearly 80% spike in those listening to her music catalog in the weeks after the tour kicked off.

After 53 shows, the first U.S. leg of the tour came to a close on Aug. 9. Swift originally announced 27 shows and has since extended the tour, adding new dates in cities like New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Toronto, which are all now anticipating a local economic boost.Erasis set to go international this month, starting with four shows in Mexico City, continuing its five-continent run through November 2024.

Swift’s tour is in a league of its own, even among legendary groups like the Rolling Stones who have been touring for decades, other major touring artists like Harry Styles and Beyoncé and contemporaries like Adele with sold-out Las Vegas residencies, as the singer-songwriter brings her mega tour directly to her dedicated fans in various cities for multiple nights.

The reasons behind the Eras Tour's unmatched success are many. Nora Princiotti, staff writer at The Ringer and co-host of the podcast of Every Single Album: Taylor Swift, attributes part of the tour’s success to the sheer depth and popularity of Swift’s music catalog. “I don't know that anybody envisioned a tour of this scale ever happening. She can go three and a half hours and just hit after hit after hit,” says Princiotti.

There’s also the timing: The tour has become the perfect outing for concert-goers itching for a post-pandemic live music immersive experience. “We are in an experience economy where people crave going out and participating in social events,” says Alice Enders, a music industry analyst at Enders Analysis and a former senior economist at the World Trade Organization. “It's no surprise that people are flocking to this Eras Tour experience in what is increasingly an otherwise digital environment we live in.”

And fans are acutely aware of Swift being connected to her body of work in a way that few artists are—she writes all her songs, has been protective of her music in the streaming boom, and is now releasing re-recordings of her discography to reclaim their master rights. It all adds up to a music industry enterprise the likes of which the world has never seen.

The economic and cultural impact of the Eras Tour

"Analysts estimate that the Eras Tour will likely surpass the $1 Billion mark next March, while Swift is touring internationally. If this projection holds true, she will achieve the milestone of the biggest tour in music history, surpassing Elton John's multi-year farewell tour, which wrapped up earlier this summer and holds the current record of $939 million. The Eras Tour would then continue for another seven months before concluding in November of 2024 in Toronto—that is, unless rumors that Swift will release more dates come to fruition.

But the money goes far deeper than just net profits. The Eras Tour is projected to generate close to $5 billion in consumer spending in the United States alone. “If Taylor Swift were an economy, she’d be bigger than 50 countries,” said Dan Fleetwood, President of QuestionPro Research and Insights, in a story for GlobalNewsWire. On the opening night in Glendale, Ariz., the concert brought in more revenue for local businesses than Super Bowl LVII, which was held back in February in the same stadium. To use that event as a comparison, Swift has been performing the equivalent of two to three Super Bowls every weekend for the past five months (and six of seven nights at her last round of shows in Los Angeles)."

WBA Light-Heavyweight World Champion looks ahead to mouth-watering undisputed clash

Undefeated WBA Light-Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol believes that a potential undisputed clash with IBF, WBC, and WBO ruler Artur Beterbiev would be the toughest test of his career. Bivol spoke to Matchroom Boxing's 'Flash Knockdown' podcast about his win against Lyndon Arthur in Saudi Arabia, Artur Beterbiev's win over Callum Smith in Canada, and a potential mega-fight with his Russian rival later this year - listen here Bivol (22-0, 11 KOs) famously handed Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez only the second loss of his career when he outpointed the multi-weight World Champion at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in May 2022 - but the 33-year-old says that a mouth-watering showdown with his compatriot Beterbiev would be a harder fight. “To be honest, I believe that it is the hardest test," said Bivol. "Why? Because he is stronger. I know that he is physically stronger than Canelo. He has good technique, too. Many people talk about his power, but they forget about his technique because his power is so much better than his technique, but he still had good technique. “First of all, he is strong, very strong. He’s like stone. His punches are very hard, and his body is hard. He believes in himself a lot. He has experience, a lot of experience. If you look at his pro record, he doesn’t have too many fights, but he has a lot of experience in the amateurs. It helps him. He uses body shots with his right hand – it’s a good body shot. And he’s strong; this is one of the most important things. “We’re all human. We all have weak sides. We all have good sides. Even him, we saw some of the moments which he wasn’t good in his last fight. I just need to create as many moments as I can that aren’t comfortable for him and I shouldn’t let him create moments that are uncomfortable for me. That’s it. It’s easy to be honest. We don’t need to think about it too much. Just do your work. I have to do my work and I know I can win if I do my work well." The unbeaten pound-for-pound star is fresh from a shutout points win over Britain's Lyndon Arthur on the huge 'Day of Reckoning' event at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last month - and a return to the Kingdom could be on the cards later this year if a dream showdown between Bivol and Beterbiev gets over the line. “I’m happy that everything was under my control. I felt good for all 12 rounds. I was breathing well and I kept my health. Now I am excited to have another fight. I didn’t damage my body too much with my last fight. I have strength to fight again." Beterbiev looked destructive as he continued his reign as unified Light-Heavyweight World Champion by wiping out Liverpool's Callum Smith in seven rounds at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada last week - but Bivol believes he possesses the skills to inflict a first career defeat on the 39-year-old powerhouse. “Of course, I watched the fight," said Bivol. "I wasn’t surprised too much, to be honest. Beterbiev was good as I expected to be against Smith. I didn’t see something new. He was powerful like he was before, and he did his job well. “I thought he would win. I didn’t have any expectation how he would win. I just felt like he should win. He won like he won, and I wasn’t surprised. I wasn’t surprised that he was coming too close to Smith easily. He just did his job well. “I love boxing so much. I like smart boxing and I want to believe that I’m showing this boxing to the people. It should be better than power or just speed. I hope the skills should win. I hope I have enough skills to win this fight. I will push myself to do it."

After a 14-year absence, American Express returns as a PGA Tour tournament title sponsor beginning next year as The Desert Classic becomes The American Express. American Express has teed off a multiyear title sponsorship deal that returns it to the PGA Tour entitlement roster and provides the event that was played as The Desert Classic this year with a new name. According to a news release, the 2020 pro-am event is scheduled for January 13-19 in La Quinta, California and will operate as The American Express going forward. “American Express’ new multi-year partnership with this historic event on the PGA Tour is a perfect match,” said Stephen Squeri, American Express Chairman and CEO. “Golf consistently ranks as one of the top passions of our Card Members, and the Tour provides some of the most exciting experiences at some of the best venues the game offers. We’re looking forward to making The American Express a ‘must-see’ event.” The deal comes in the nick of time for the tournament, which was in danger of losing its place on the PGA Tour schedule without a title sponsor and cash injection.

A California bill that would allow college athletes to accept endorsement money moved one step closer to becoming law when it cleared the state senate by a vote of 39-0. Once the details are ironed out, the proposed law — known as the Fair Pay to Play Act — heads to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has 30 days to sign it. If it becomes law, it will go into effect in January, 2023. This bill would allow all college athletes in California to profit from their name, image and likeness. Similar bills are in their infancy in Washington state and Colorado, and North Carolina representative Mark Walker introduced a federal bill in March that would have the same effect, making the Fair Pay to Play Act a "catalyst rather than an end unto itself," as the New York Times noted. The bill's high-profile backers include LeBron James and Draymond Green, both of whom tweeted their support. Naturally, the NCAA has come out in strong opposition of the bill. The association last week claimed the Fair Pay to Play Act is harmful, unconstitutional, and would "upend the balance" of national competition in college sports. Stay tuned.

SportsBusiness Journal lauds corporate social responsibility. Amidst a recent roundup of sports CSR initiatives, SportsBusiness Journal noted that the first project on which educational platform developer EverFi collaborated with a sports property was “a financial literacy program that regional bank BBVA offered for use by elementary school students in a handful of NBA markets, including Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix.” When Houston hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 2013, league sponsor BBVA arranged for Rockets star James Harden to appear at a participating school. “While it’s cool to have a BBVA banker come into the classroom, it’s even cooler if James Harden shows up,” said Jon Chapman, co-founder and president of global partnerships for EverFi, which has developed online educational modules on topics ranging from financial literacy to STEM to anti-bullying, branded for presentation by teams, leagues, and sponsors. After Houston, EverFi developed educational modules for the NHL and NHLPA around science, technology, engineering and math; for the NFL and the United Way around character development and African American history; for MLB focusing on learning loss during summer vacation; and with MLS around anti-bullying. We look forward to celebrating a Sport Business Handbook event with EverFi at their Washington, DC headquarters on October 2.

In a bid to boost fan engagement during the regular season and into the hunt for October, MLB has launched a new licensed lottery draw game called Baseball Bucks that will feature the official brand marks of MLB and its 30 franchises. According to Hashtag Sports, the game involves players buying a $5 quick-pick ticket featuring ten games from that day’s MLB regular-season schedule. The partnership could also see both parties collaborate on other lottery games based on live baseball, including designs that offer winnings similar to national lottery draws including Powerball and Mega Millions. The deal adds to EquiLottery Games’ growing sports portfolio, having also announced a partnership with Speedway Motorsports to develop a game based on live auto racing which has been tentatively called Race Car Cash.

A generous community benefits package is tied to the Clippers' arena proposal. According to the Orange County Register, the Clippers and city of Inglewood are negotiating an estimated $100 million "community development plan associated with the proposed new 18,500-seat arena that the team wants to open" in 2024. Among the items that Inglewood would like to see included in the agreement are “employment targets during and after construction, with a goal of half of 35% of the permanent jobs in event operations going to Inglewood residents.” Inglewood is also requesting $12.8 million in "grant support, targeted at city youth via after-school programs and scholarships." The city also wants development plans to include $6 million worth of "improvements to the public library and community center and $500,000 for parks." There also is another request that the Clippers dedicate $5.5 million to "cover a first-time home-buyer program and emergency support for renters for families facing eviction." The Clippers in an email "indicated that they’re receptive to the city’s proposal, which they view as being in line with their philanthropic efforts."

New L.A. stadium designed to attract – and hold – the attention of fickle fans. The $5 billion Inglewood stadium is the "most expensive in the U.S., and perhaps the world," and "every dollar spent here has gone toward tackling one of the toughest problems in American sports: making professional football work" in Los Angeles, according to the Wall Street Journal. Rams Owner Stan Kroenke is "spending lavishly to create a building" that he and the team "felt could only exist" in L.A. The complex is "far larger than just a stadium," and the approximately $5 billion "spent on the stadium may wind up being less than half the total cost" of the development. Outside of the stadium, there are "vast and largely empty plots of land," but they are "perhaps more important than the stadium itself." The Rams and the NFL "knew for this project to make any sort of financial sense, it had to be operational year round and not just on Sundays." Sources said that when the property is fully developed, the total expenditure could exceed $10 billion.

Fresh on the heels of donating $1 million to Bahamas hurricane relief, Michael Jordan has "agreed to sell a large piece" of the Hornets to two New York-based investors. The Charlotte Observer reported that Jordan "controls about" 97% of Hornets equity. The sale is "expected to close in the next few weeks." Jordan is reportedly "bringing in" Melvin Capital Founder and Chief Information Officer Gabe Plotkin and D1 Capital Founder Daniel Sundheim. The percentages Plotkin and Sundheim are buying "have not been revealed, nor has the price they are paying." Both prospective owners "must be approved by the NBA, but that process is already underway and the sale is expected to close quickly." A source with knowledge of the deal said that it "does not involve" Jordan "giving up majority ownership" of the team. Jordan reportedly "plans to remain the Hornets’ primary owner 'for a long time.'" Last February, Forbes "estimated the Hornets were worth" about $1.3 billion.

Four Americans are among the 41 Paralympians from 20 countries to get sponsorship deals from Citi heading into the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. According to Cynopsis Sports, Citi is rolling out its activation plans for its two-year deal with the International Paralympic Committee and 18 national teams it signed last December. All of the athletes will appear with Citi at a range of in-market activations, philanthropic, and community-building events. “It’s a 365-day-a-year partnership, there’s always something going in a market with this partnership,” said Citi Managing Director of Corporate Sponsorship and Marketing Tina Davis. The team includes 22 women, 19 men, and ranges from 17 to 50 in age. Last year, Citi signed a brief two-year deal with the IPC, returning it to the Olympic-Paralympic world after its five years as a USOPC sponsor. The international deal gives Citi rights to the Tokyo Games and rights in 18 countries where it has a significant workforce, but not in the U.S., because the U.S. does not generally sell Paralympic rights separately.

Twitch partners with the Las Vegas Raiders and the brand new Allegiant Stadium for 2020. According to Shack News, the partnership will include a Twitch-branded lounge in the lower level of the stadium, with features including streamer stations, Twitch viewing screens, and esports competitions. Twitch's live-streaming capabilities will be available in a variety of entertainment at Allegiant Stadium, including sporting events, concerts, and esports competitions. The Raiders are moving from Oakland after this season and their new 65,000-seat stadium will also be the home of UNLV football, the Las Vegas Bowl, and the Pac-12 title game. The big overall news is that esports competitions will be coming to Allegiant Stadium and sponsored by Twitch, integrating the NFL and esports under one roof.

Cal Ripken, Jr.’s celebrity golf tournament draws in legendary athletes across major U.S. sports leagues. According to the Patriot News, the event, featuring such legends as Julius Erving, Lawrence Taylor, Ozzie Smith, and Jim McMahon, was held to benefit the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. The inaugural golf outing was held in 2011, and since then, the event has raised several million dollars for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. The principal goals of the foundation are to utilize baseball- and softball-themed programs in an effort to build character and teach life lessons to underprivileged children. Founded in 2001, the Foundation has served kids in all 50 states and in other countries such as Canada and Nicaragua. With over 20 Hall of Famers across the NFL and MLB, the event has an impressive amount of star power to help draw attention to giving back to those less privileged through baseball and softball.
