If you are, like me, obsessed with every detail of your writing being intentional and appropriately weighted but sometimes get overwhelmed with the decision fatigue that accompanies a blank page, Wonderbook really fucking slaps. Highly recommend. It walks you through examples of choices made in writing with such clarity and vision that it helped clear up multiple sticking points in my wip I've been worrying over for months. Do you ever play around with extremely self-indulgent aus? Just for fun.

I've been toying with an IDW au that has Rodimus as Prime and Megatron as his Primal Consort. Mostly for the mental image of Megatron lounging on fabrics, which obviously would have to be imported from off-world, thus expensive. Golden jewellery. Paint, which totally could be made with like crushed ruby for extra opulence. And this time, the paint isn't limited to his face.

But also because of the size difference. Let the big scary mech be the pampered consort for once!

And that sounds interesting! Especially with Rodimus's whole ~energy~ (which changes slightly upon working with different continuities), how Megs would become the Primal Consort, how does the Primal setup work here?

Is there a Primal Vanguard? A High Lord Protector to cover the military stuff? Just how involved is the religious aspect of it, or is being a Prime more of a political or civilian position? Are we rolling with your typical "person + matrix in chest = prime" situation, or another answer. Do the responsibilities of a Primal Consort range, or are they rather succinct? Are there any requirements to the situation such as marriage, proof of the dynamic being consummated, promise of heirs, ect? Hierarchy stuff? How formal/casual does Rodimus play this, or does it vary? What was the situation that lead to Rodimus becoming a Prime?

Worldbuilding wise, fluff wise, and smut wise, there is so much to work with here.

Throwing shadows over you, Megatron stood and stalked to the window with hands clasped behind his back. You knew this because you’d stood as he had, following protocol, and watched for any signs of summoning.

“You’ve done your duty well, but I wonder if maybe Lord Straxus has perhaps earned a…change in scenery.”

“My Lord?”

Megatron turned and offered an outstretched Servo. Naturally as venting, you closed the distance and allowed him to cup your chin.

“What would you do for me, commander?”

“Anything, Lord Megatron.”

“Would you turn on your own superior, commander?”

You blinked, and the words spilled out faster than your processor could fully analyze them.

“You…want me to turn on you? I don’t under-“

Oh.

Megatron’s optics flashed with mirth and he barked a laugh. Your field turned to flustered static, but you struck the proper salute.

“Lord Megatron, House Tarn, rightful Liege of all Decepticons, I would dispose of any and all obstacles to your will regardless of personal affiliation. My fealty is absolute.”

Megatron’s grin softened and his opposable digit stroked your cheek line thoughtfully.

“You truly are my most valuable asset,” he rumbled, “before I make up my mind as to Straxus’ fate, perhaps I should reward that ‘absolute fealty’ of yours.”

Your sparkbeat quickened, and you reset your vocalizer several times in order to dampen the audibility of your eagerness.

“If it pleases my lord I will accept any grace he would bestow on his loyal servant.”

“Wonderful.”

And in just a few motions he had danced you to the throne and bent you over the seat. Your aft he massaged and teased only briefly before your panels slid away. It was with pride you noted that your spike had already fully pressurized without your having given away how desperately you had begged the universe to align this way. For your lord and ruler to use you how you ached for him to.

“I had a feeling,” Megatron murmured in your audial as he lined up the buzzing pressure you knew to be the swollen nodehead of his own spike, “Well, you have served me well. Beyond competently, commander. I think it’s time you were given a rightfully earned promotion,” he trailed a digit up the underside of your spike, “ah, yes indeed commander. Just once let yourself have a little indulgence. It would please me, after all, to hear you praise your true sovereign. Especially as I don’t intend to make it easy for you to vocalize much more than static.”

And on that, he entered you with the force of a hurricane.

Okay but I did finish the first Worlds Beyond Number episode and immediately picked up The Infinite Playground again and I do think anyone doing anything creative, anyone involved in a hobby- or fun-based community (like fandom!), and anyone who likes games of any sort or game-based media should check out this book.

Wow, some of the character sizes really threw me off. I fully expected the biggest younglings to be Predaking, Megatron, Bludgeon, Orion, and Starscream, and maybe Blitzwing

lolll my character sizes were definitely deliberate! honestly i'm kind of bored of Megs and OP being the default big guys for each faction, with optional bigger bruisers. like, what if we considered vehicle sizes just a little bit more and made Starscream taller?? hmm?? cmon Hasbro give me some variety don't talk to me about evergreen designs and marketable toys and stuff

i thought it would be hilarious to have Megatron be just average, and shorter than his perpetual annoyance Starscream. i also thought it would be hilarious to make Bludgeon a short king when he's a principle antagonist! Predaking gets to keep his huge status though he deserves it. i also really wanted to see some size variety in the ladies?? like why are they always smaller. i know why. it's dumb. maybe we deserve a 30' tall spider lady instead of petite broken bird Blackarachnia. cmon. big girl rights

i know it's maybe jarring to be so different from the "typical" canon but the size disparities delight me. when i was first drawing what would eventually become SNAP, i started with a Windblade taller than Orion, and then it kind of spiraled from there, and i codified it into size classes that actually became a pretty significant piece of worldbuilding, as well as a handy art guide. i would probably make minibots smaller if i had to start over, but i like what i ended up with. it's refreshing to me

Yknow I can’t tell if this is happening more and more bc the general circles seem sick of arma bc it’s always in SRW-as petty as that whole thing is-or if this is just popping up more as years go on but I find it funny how people continually say “don’t watch arma as your first getter show, it’s confusing without any prior knowledge!” When like- you look at every other mecha imagawa has directed and it’s a stable of his to have a drastically altered setting from the original source, that your thrown into and doesn’t get shit explained to you so you have to figure it out as it goes along.

Like- he did this exact thing with giant robo even more confusing as he ripped a ton of characters from the authors other works, g gundam he said “what if I made Gundam a SUPER robot” so if you don’t know wtf the real robot is or know nothing about gundam that’s gonna be tonal whiplash and shin mazingers while a more traditional retelling first fucking ep is the ENDING. (Tetsujin the only one I can’t comment on here bc I know hardly anything about it since no one talks about it, but I’ll report back if it follows the same “Wtfness” bc I expect so) With arma even if he left after ep 3 and the rest of the changes (debateably) we’re added by Kawagoe, the first 3 eps are his standard story telling, especially given this was his third mecha project. Sure, someone may not know this if they never saw his other works or be informed similar director, but arma really isn’t a outline so I don’t get why it shows so much hostility if someone starts with it first.

Am I opposed to someone starting with the manga or any of the other Animes because they give better insight on the character? No, it’s all personal preference and anything else is just as a good starting point if not slightly better then arma. But I don’t like there should be a designated starting point when with getter the *only* thing someone needs to do in a specific order or way is what arcs of the manga to read-which even then, not the end of the world if someone stumble upon it via a later arc bc they can go back to read the rest if they find them-but the only anime they’ll need prior manga context to is arc since it’s outright a adaptation. Toei and all the ovas are their own thing, even if the latter takes elements of the manga.

Arma is no different from this and it’s really sad to see how it’s gatekeep like this as of late when it’s not actually “something you need a lot of experience in the franchise to understand” and more so “a effect of imagawas really specific method of story telling that is convoluted”.
