Alright I’m on my Yugioh shit, but I think what Pegasus did to Seto Kaiba was waaaay more personal than any other Yugioh villain.
None of my thoughts are organized, but I’ll try to get it out in some kind of way that makes sense.
Let me first start by saying that Seto Kaiba is a minor through the whole series. This is important to his character, almost more than the others, because it is exactly what he’s trying to erase about himself.
Kaiba dresses himself up in outfits that accent his masculine features similar to how an adult will. His shoulder pads make his shoulders seem broader. His coat goes inward to give a very triangular shape to his torso. He’s got belts everywhere (and while yes, this is just the style of Yugioh, I believe it cannot be completely written off as just that).
At the base of it, Kaiba wants to be seen as an adult. He NEEDS to be. He runs a company and is in near constant threat of being taken advantage of by others. We see this many times throughout the show, especially by Pegasus.
Now, to connect things once again. Kaiba is a minor who was thrust into adulthood far too early, yet, he engages in child-like activities. Duel Monsters, while used for their ancient shadow games, is still just a game. A game Kaiba is OBSESSED with, to the point he becomes the face of the Blue Eyes White Dragon.
(Which is his symbol of power and autonomy over others, which further proves why he so badly hates the ancient talk, but that’s another essay)
Pegasus is the created (re-created, technically) of Duel Monsters. He made the paintings, the cards, the rules. He shows in many tournaments (assumed based off episode 2) and given how much Kaiba has won? I’m guessing they met before becoming business partners.
In short, it makes sense that Pegasus would be an important figure to Kaiba. Maybe an idol, an inspiration, or whatever it might be. Kaiba saw Pegasus and saw a man who’s game kept him alive through his years with Gozaburo, who gave him a connection to his own brother.
Pegasus is powerful. Pegasus has full control of his own actions. He is everything Kaiba wants and changed KaibaCorp. to be.
A little ways down the line, Pegasus becomes his business partner. Kaiba gets to work a littler closer with him. We never see what exactly that entailed besides letting Kaiba use the Blue Eyes (and other cards) without copyright issues and Pegasus using the holographic stages, but even that is a significant exchange.
(Makes me wonder if things hadn’t turned out the way they did, would Kaiba and Duke Devlin view him the same way?)
Then, Pegasus starts Duelist Kingdom. He uses Kaibams vulnerability to his advantage and steps in to take over. He kidnaps Mokuba, then takes his soul and shows it off like a trophy.
Pegasus has not just betrayed Kaiba’s trust, but he turned into a real person for Kaiba. It shows him that, just like everyone else, Pegasus is greedy and selfish. He takes what Kaiba worked so hard for, what he loves, just because he can. And he does so with the same smiles and teasing as before.
It’s beyond disappointment. This is heating your favorite person side with your abusers. This is a childhood hero watching you get kicked and laughing as he kicks you alongside them.
So, naturally, Kaiba won’t forgive him. We see in Battle City how bruised Kaiba’s ego is. He’s mad at Yugi, he’s mad at Izushi, no one is saved from his ire. Even Mokuba gets the short stick every so often. He is compensating BIG TIME and it’s directly connected to how things went over last season.
Might I add that Duelist Kingdom takes place less than a year after Kaiba took over KaibaCorp? This is a still pretty fresh CEO with some very big trauma that he simply has not dig into yet.
I think in a world where Pegasus was not so disillusioned by his own desperation to revive Cecelia, he would’ve been a good mentor to Kaiba. They both have a love for games, for the visual experience (painting and holograms) and they’re both very particular. Honestly, their traits would work relatively well, all things considered.
But it didn’t and we see Kaiba go through cycle after cycle of trying to get better and stumbling every step of the way.
Anyway, that’s my TedTalk. As a Pegasus enjoyed and Kaiba analysis, I found this topic very fascinating.

so we finally get to this scene. idk what goes on in the heads of official translators and editors, but yall have one job and yall cant do it properly.
Tumblr media
RYOU: Yugi-kun! Beat him (or more literally, "Win") for Mokuba-kun's sake too!
HONDA: Speaking of, I'm the only who knows about how strangely Bakura was acting down in the dungeons... But now's not the time to tell Yugi and the others...
now compare that to what we got:
Tumblr media
the "kill him, yugi" always sends me good lord LMAO but anyway, ryou isnt acting weirdly right then and there. honda isnt commenting on what ryou said and is simply recalling their encounter in the dungeons.
in eng, it points to this being bakura I guess. I mean, you think bakura would be more careful with his ryou impersonation... but in the original jp, theres a lot more room to believe that this is truly ryou.
I really like that the bakuras are canonically (plotwise and characterwise) confusing tbh. what I dont like is the eng manga played it up with the weird ass unnecessary liberties they took. pointless and comes off as dishonest.

ok. ok. hang on. im cooking. here’s a rough guess at which yugioh guys in Duel Links are AI memory clones and which aren’t and which know that about themselves and which don’t and which ones we don’t actually know for sure. And other notes:
Duel Monsters:
DSOD Kaiba and Mokuba: fairly certain that’s Really Them, they would be playtesting their own company’s game after all
All the other DSOD Characters: you could probably make a strong argument that they’re Really Themselves too honestly. Especially Yugi
Yami Yugi: AI copy. Unsure if he’s aware of that or not? DSOD Kaiba is still obsessed with him.
Yami Bakura: AI copy, 100% fully aware of it and even comments on it
Yami Marik: AI copy, iirc I think he’s fully aware of it too? He’s just here to have a good (violent) time. (EDIT: have been informed he’s fully aware of it <3)
Pegasus: AI copy of mangaverse!Pegasus specifically; not only is he fully aware of that, he’s also aware of the multiverse inhabiting DL AND the fact that he’s dead! :^)
Bandit Keith, Arkana, Bonz (??): well if we know the Duel Monsters world in DL is based on the manga these poor shmucks are dead so it would be logical that their DL counterparts are AI too! All unaware of that fact it seems.
EDIT: ISHIZU!!!: she’s a weird case I just got reminded by the fact that she like. can tell something is Amiss and wonders why she’s still wearing the necklace. So she’s like an AI clone of post Battle City Ishizu being kind of forced to play out the role of mid-canon BC Ishizu, and she’s not fully aware of the details. ok cool kaiba !!!!!
The Rest of the DM Cast that’s in Duel Links: honestly yeah all of these guys are probably AI copies. Which is TURBO fucked up when you’ve potential got The Real Deal also here (like with joey, yugi, and téa... encountering a digital clone of your past self cannot be very fun!!!)
GX:
Yubel, Supreme King Jaden, and Sartorius: AI clones for sure, unknown if they’re aware of it.
The Rest of the GX Cast: I’m not actually sure! If I had to bet money any of them were Really Them I would say it’s Jaden/Yubel since he’s based explictly on s4/postcanon Jaden. Everyone else is prooooobably. AI.
5D’s:
Team 5D’s: WELL OK I WOULDA SAID THEYRE AI BEFORE BUT THIS LAST CHARACTER EVENT MAY BE IMPLYING THEY (yusei, jack, crow, akiza, and the twins) ARE ALL THE REAL DEAL SO. THAT’S AN INTERESTING TWIST IF SO!!!
Dark Signer Kalin, Carly, and Rex Goodwin: AI copies, and I’m pretty sure at least Rex is aware of it? Spooky
Bruno/Antinomy: 10000000% AI copy, is actually fully aware he’s just some code on a hard drive and has commented on it!!! Not sure if he knows if he’s dead or not but wouldn’t put it past him.
Aporia, Paradox, Z-one: my fuckign GRANDPAS who are FULLY AWARE THEY ARE DEAD (not sure if they know that they’re AI copies though. They might!) Paradox only learned about all this bullshit after the aforementioned Pegasus blew his brain open.
The Rest of the 5D’s Cast: Unsure! Could go either way with some of them, like regular Carly. Primo is for sure an AI copy though.
ZEXAL:
Zexal Cast: I’M NOT SURE. I want to say most of them are prrrrrobably AI copies but I feel like Zexal’s DL “lore” hasn’t thrown us too many sticks about it yet. The Arclights might be real (I do think it’s neat their renders are based on their zexal ii look, as far as i know), and either way they’re actively researching what’s going on with Duel Links and how it connects with memories.
ARC-V
ARC-V Cast: ALSO NOT SURE except for Yuto who we can pretty much confirm is an AI copy. I want to say the rest of ‘em are probably AI too but either way it’s interesting that they’re also really in it with the research of trying to figure out what triggers a character to show up in this world (spoiler alert: it’s the memories the existing characters have of them!!)
VRAINS
VRAINS Cast: ok these guys might actually be The Real Guys (except Ai of course who is. AI. lmao), as people have told me Vrains World seems to be acting a bit like a direct followup to the series. Which is super interesting and I’m really curious how it will impact the lore going forward!!!
ANYWAY god. konami really did not have to do this with their little freemium mobile game but thank god they did. Welcome to memory ghost card game heaven!!!!!!!

"Who... are you?" the young man mustered his eyes open, giving the child jostling him awake an annoyed bleary stare, utterly devoid of recognition.
The spell seems to have taken. Good.
"Listen, you don't know me," Mokuba paused to swallow a pang of pain. "But you gotta trust me. Some people are coming to kill you tonight. You need to get dressed and GO."
The young man made some sounds of protest, but the way the kid clung to him, trying to wrestle him out of bed, told him he should at least entertain the thought.
The child's story proved not to be a lie when soon after they were being chased down a corridor.
---
"Go that way. Keep going until you see no more snow. Or until your wings give out, and then walk the rest of the way down to the border. Whatever you do, just go as far away from here as you can!"
Tumblr media
We can no longer do anything about them, Seto, not if they are willing to go this far. Please go. Forget all this. Forget me. I'll take care of everything. You've done so much already... I just want you to stay alive...
---
"Myosotis."
"What?"
"You told me to pick a name, so there you have it."
Joey stared at the man with a vacant look. What was he not getting?
"I did tell you I liked your sister's nickname better. It's the formal name of forget-me-nots."
"The formal- Why the heck would you- Oh, nevermind, of course a stuffy noble would pick such a mouthful!"
"It's shorter than Sleeping Beauty. But sure, if the word is too long for your vocabulary, I guess you could stick to 'Myo'..." The taller man snorted, continuing his path down the mountain.
"Hey, hey, start gettin' cheeky with me like that and I won't feed you tonight, ya hear!"
The air was soon filled with shouts of "Hey, wait up, Myo!" "Myo, wait!" "Gosh, your legs are a lot longer than mine..." as the duo made their way back.

a list of Kaiba fic recs, in honor of his birthday
I thought I'd have a fic ready for the 25th, but alas, it was not to be. So instead, I pulled together a fic rec list of some of my favorites I've read in the last few months, sorted by ship. I'm sure there's plenty more that I haven't been able to find the links to.
Happy reading! This got way too long so I put the list under the cut.

Question for the mun: What do you envision the softest moment between Kaiba and Mokuba looking like? I’ve made a few takes on it myself in fics but this account is utterly superb in capturing Kaiba’s essence in a way that is far more realistic than any hot takes I may have, and I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you! I hope you’re doing well!
lovely message!
i think some of the more important things to remember with Kaiba and Mokuba are that they're not very sweet, and they're not very cuddly, and they rarely express any kind of vulnerability - Mokuba more often, in limited situations. theirs is not a fluffy relationship. in addition, i have never loved the idea that Mokuba wants a more boisterous, extroverted, fun goofball brother like Jounouchi; he loves his OWN unhinged and introverted brother and he wants THAT brother to be happy. on top of that, we see across manga and DM that sometimes Mokuba stays up pretty late with Seto, and also that Seto puts him in positions of power - battle city commissioner, in charge of the dig, etc. - trusting him to run things well.
SO when i think about what their "soft" moments are like, i think it's exactly like the scene from the anime where Mokuba's asleep under Seto's coat in battle city... he just wanted to keep Seto company and Seto likes knowing that he's asleep and safe in the room with him... and a lot of Mokuba bringing him coffee or food late at night bc he knows he can't get Seto to go to bed at a reasonable hour so instead he just helps him get the work done... and a lot of "working meetings" which is really just an excuse to go out to lunch under the guise of talking about work.
but all of that is just "soft" and not "softest" so here's my "softest" Kaiba brother hc, i guess: Mokuba is all too familiar with the sound of Seto's nightmares, and he knows better than to try and wake him up (you should never do this). but when Seto shuffles down to the kitchen at 3 AM drained and tired and dazed and with the sweat cooling on his forehead, Mokuba has a hot tea waiting for him. and he slouches in the kitchen chair looking and feeling pathetic and flimsy because having a nightmare calls up all kinds of old feelings inside him, but here is someone, sitting across from him, resting his head on the kitchen table and yawning, who doesn't care that he's ever lost a game and doesn't believe that losing means dying, and who only ever wants him to feel safe and happy. and after twenty minutes of cozy half-lit quiet in their kitchen well past the witching hour Seto will stand up, put his mug into the dishwasher, sleepily ruffle Mokuba's hair, and they will both go back to sleep.

my usual ships for post-canon setting, or basically just the other ships that happens alongside post-canon rivalship:
1. Kaiba x Yugi - ESTABLISHED. UNBOTHERED. KINGS. 💅💅 (no need explanation for this lol)
2. Jou x Anzu - they're in LDR and to their surprise it's Working 😂 always going with the flow. it started with Jou who had a fcked up sleeping schedule and Anzu who lived 13 hours away and they're the only ones available to voice chat 😂 rivalship happened first but devotion gonna be the first one Getting Married. They're Married Couple material. very american-style wedding.
3. one-sided Otogi->Yugi - Otogi dates a lot of people and is Always Open but his Affection for Yugi cannot be erased... Poor guy QwQ it will never happen bro.
4. Bakura x Malik - Bakura travels to different countries a lot and one day finding himself back in Egypt and Malik guides him around for old friends sake and Things Just Flowed from there 😂 (DARK THEMES tho. Strictly Dark Themes for them) (Like if I always made rivalship being sunshines and rainbows and funny, these two gonna be dark DARK and Messed Up, idk how to explain) (it's called angstshipping for a reason i guess)
Sometimes, for Fun:
5. Mokuba x Shizuka AND Mokuba x Sera (if following DSOD canon) - always HC-ing Mokuba being like a shonen harem anime protag 😂 he and Shizuka are only 2 years apart and they could've gone to same school together, or maybe same cram school if assuming Mokie goes to Private High School in Domino and Shizuka a public high school somewhere else. Sera's case is just to add more comedy. I don't know her exact age and since she's a Plana and was already there since Bakura's young I assume she's Much Older than she looks 😂 BUT she's a Plana aka she's a Magical Girl. she WILL go to Mokuba's class BECAUSE I SAID SO and she's the Mysterious Transfer Student trope. Shizuka is the sweet senpai trope. Let's GO Mokuba's funny little harem. Maybe add Mokuba x Rebecca too. She's the tsundere know-it-all trope. ALL-IN. Mokuba's getting all the Girls in here. (Shizuka: dandere type. Sera: kuudere type. Rebecca: tsundere type. Holy trinity. For YOU Mokuba!!)

Euroshipping Musings
Footnotes are below the cut because my parentheses were starting to look ridiculous.
I have this headcanon/recurring trope in my fics(1) of Ryou being Mokuba's not-babysitter. I've figured out where this came from. When Mokuba gets his soul back in Pegasus' castle, Ryou is the one holding him when he wakes up, and I guess I always imagined our Baby Kaiba imprints on Ryou like a duckling. Kaiba doesn't want his brother spending so much time alone only with KC employees or household staff, but Mokuba's a little old for a babysitter(2). Kids his own age aren't too much of an option for one reason or other(3) and most of the dweeb patrol are insufferable to Kaiba, but Ryou is one that's never once tried to lecture him or expressly criticized him, so Kaiba picks him as a companion/caretaker for Mokuba. Ryou thinks of it as being a nanny, but would never use that word around either Kaiba.
Ryou starts spending a lot of time at the Kaiba Mansion, and since he reports directly to Kaiba, he gets a peek at his more personal side, and all of his bad habits: insomnia, caffeine addiction, workaholism. He starts out by doing little things for him, like sneakily switching out his coffee for decaf in the evenings. The more comfortable he gets with Kaiba (who acts unexpectedly chill when he's not in a combative situation and feeling threatened), and this comfort results in him actually scolding Kaiba for his bad habits, trying to correct them and save him from himself. In his mind, he's taking care of both Kaibas now.
Seto starts to really take notice of Ryou a little while after this starts, and he tries asking him why Ryou is doing these thigs for him. It's not part of his job. He gets to the heart of the issue and asks why Ryou is acting like he cares, and Ryou says it's because he does care. Seto just asks why(4) and Ryou struggles to explain. Confessions for these two are never easy or smooth, it takes a little awkwardness and discomfort to be completely honest about feelings and say what they're really trying to say. Kaiba doesn't necessarily reciprocate right away, not externally, but they do get together because Ryou is a calming, caring presence in a home that didn't see a lot of that for a long time, and because Seto realizes how nice it can be to let yourself be cared for, and that he'd miss Ryou if he ever left.
It's not a fiery passionate love (though they do grow into the passionate stuff) but it starts out as something very domestic, very simple. It's two hurt people recognizing each other and approaching with caution and care, and finding a way to fit into each other's lives. Learning how to lean on each other, just a little bit at a time, until one day they wake up and realize they can't imagine a life without the other person there. It's Seto realizing how cold his life would be without giving Ryou's bedhead a goodbye kiss in the morning and the scent of his tea in his office and a lint-roller full of long white hairs dusted off his suits sitting on the bathroom counter. It's Ryou realizing that he's found a new family for himself and how dear it is to him, and how he hopes this never ends because he found a place where he feels safe and loved and doesn't know if he could do this all over again.
My very first Euroshipping story(5) was based around this whole idea of Ryou babysitting Mokuba, and it just snuck its way into my other stories too.
I even put this trope in Rock Bottom where Ryou is Mokuba's babysitter, though the circumstances there are wildly different
or not, I play with the age difference for the Kaibros sometimes
either Mokuba is homeschooled, or he's just as suspicious of friendship as his older brother is, or he just gets into fights at school anytime people talk shit about his big bro (that's another trope of mine), so true friends are a little hard to come by
I swear I have three different scenes for two different fics (one is a deleted scene) of someone confessing their feelings to Kaiba and him asking them why because this boy can't understand why someone would like him on a personal level. It comes with the territory of being generally bad at emotions; it also comes with the territory of every version of Kaiba I write being traumatized to some degree, but that's gonna get its own post.
That fic is only posted on FFN, where all my oldest stuff is. I didn't think it was good enough to cross-post to AO3.

Euroshipping for @iamallyetnotatall . It's a little on the angsty side. I hope you still like it. I still need to come up with a title for this.
The sound of a keyboard being relentlessly typed at resonated throughout the massive office of the world famous, Seto Kaiba.
This wasn't at all unordinary. He was usually in his office working on coming up with either a new Duel Disk system, or coming up with a new tournament idea. Currently, it was the latter.
This wasn't a particularly important tournament. Well, not important for getting the King of Games title, or any title really. It was mostly a charity event in which the best duelists from around the world would duel not only each other, but whatever adoring fan they had.
Right now, it is just in the planning stage and it hasn't actually been announced yet. It still took priority over the new Duel Disk upgrade, he could work on that later.
“Hey! Seto!” The sharp yell of Mokuba rang through his ears.
“What is it Mokuba?” That’s weird, Mokuba usually doesn’t bother him while he’s working.
“It’s about time you answered, I’ve been trying to get your attention for the past five minutes,” he scolded, “Anyway, I was just coming in to ask if you got Ryou his gift yet, or y’know made any plans with him.”
Gift? Plans? Why would he need to do that? Was Ryou feeling down and he just hadn’t caught it yet? Or was there some sort of special occasion he’d forgotten about?
“Why would I need to do that? Did something happen?”
If looks could kill, Seto would've died the very moment he ended that first sentence.
“Are you kidding me Seto!?” He cried, “You Didn't Do Anything For Ryou For Valentine’s Day!?”
“Mokuba I have a job to worry about-”
“You also have a boyfriend to worry about!”
Seto didn't have a retort. He did have Ryou, and he was probably waiting for him to call for a surprise date.
The thought of him waiting for a call or for Seto to show up only for neither of those to happen, wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world.
“Mokuba, tell Isono to set up a date for me and Ryou. Preferably at our house.”
。*゚+*.✧.。•*✧*。
“Thank you for staying late to help set up the new exhibit, Bakura-san,” Ishizu said, “this never would've been finished on time without you.”
“It's no problem, I'm always happy to help! And you know you can call me Ryou, right?”
Ishizu rubbed the back of her head and let out a breathy laugh, “Ah, I suppose I should now. I'm just so used to calling you by your surname.”
They exchanged a few more pleasantries before Ishizu spoke again, “By the way Ba-Ryou, do you have any plans with Kaiba-san this evening?”
This evening? Did Seto plan something and he forgot?
“Um, I'm not sure. I don't think so, why?”
“Oh,” she sounded surprised, “well I guess I should have expected that from you two. Valentine's Day isn't something either of you care for, is it?”
Valentine's Day? VALENTINE'S DAY?!
“I-i-I have to go. See you Monday Ishizu.” He stuttered and ran off.
*.✧。*゚+.。*♡.•°✧*
Ryou ran down the streets of Domino. His feet hitting the pavement of the sidewalk in hard, fast steps.
‘Valentine’s day!’ he screamed at himself, ‘I can't believe I forgot!’
How he managed to forget the international holiday was beyond him. It was displayed everywhere, his friends were talking non stop about their plans, and Ryou had been given twice as many love letters and presents from unknown individuals. How did he manage to forget?
Coming to a sharp turn, Ryou slipped and fell face down on his chest.
‘First I forget about Valentine's Day, then I eat absolute shit. What a day…’
Crawling up from his fall and only wincing slightly, Ryou was suddenly lifted up and placed on his feet.
“Are you alright?” an all too familiar voice asked.
Ryou turned around and was greeted by the sight of the one person he really needed to avoid for at least an hour, “Seto..?”
“Hey, you're coming with me.”
Seto dragged him away from the corner and towards his car, tossing Ryou in the passenger side, and driving off once in his own seat.
Ryou fiddled with his coat’s collar, “so uhm, where are we going?”
“My place, I have something planned for you.”
Oh no… Seto had something for Ryou, but Ryou didn't have anything for Seto. He was the worst boyfriend ever. Tears were starting to prickle in his eyes. I can't believe this.
“Hey don't cry,” the soothing voice of Seto Kaiba demanded, “I know this seems like a last minute thing on my part, but that doesn't mean I don't care about you. I'm sorry I forgot.”
What? Seto hadn't remembered either? Well that made things less bad. Though he certainly had more of a reason to forget. Ryou didn't.
“I'm sorry, that's not why I'm upset,” his voice cracked slightly, “it's just that even though you forgot you still managed to do something for me, but I don't have anything to give you. Not even a card.” he was almost crying at this point.
Seto didn't respond. He only reached out a hand and ruffled Ryou's hair. This action soothed some of his nerves, but he was still upset.
“Don't worry about it. I don't care if you didn't get me anything, just that you owned up to it, and still want to be with me. We can still have a great Valentine's Day, but only if you stop crying and enjoy the evening with me.”
Ryou sniffled, and wiped the tears from his eyes. Seto was right… All that mattered was that they remembered now and still loved each other.
“You're right, I'm sorry.” he apologized.
Seto let out a sigh, and took his hand off Ryou's head to focus more on driving.
“Don't apologize for being stressed about this. Be glad we both forgot and not just one of us,” Seto snickered a bit, “that would have been worse.”
That little comment made all worries leave Ryou's mind, he smiled and let himself finally relax.
“Ok. Still love me?” He tried to cuddle up to Seto, but the seat belts made it difficult.
“Yeah. But only if you never bring this up again.”
Ryou giggled, and agreed. That was probably for the best. They could always have a better Valentine's Day next year.

It's Midnight, Cinderella, chapter 3
(Chapter 1) - (Chapter 2) - (Chapter 3) - (Fic Tag)
-------------
Despite not figuring anything out, Yugi managed to get through Sunday all right. Putting a hole in his lip was, perhaps unsurprisingly, a pretty decent distraction from his worries, or, more accurately, having something to focus on twisting every so often and keeping clean was the real distraction. He wasn’t sure if it was the piercer’s skill or his own high pain tolerance, but the actual piercing process didn’t really hurt. That said, maybe he was fiddling with the new piercing a little too much, because that was actually starting to hurt a little.
… that wasn’t stopping him from doing it too much the next day, tho’. Anxiety was a bitch like that.
-------------
“We can’t give you the guest list due to privacy concerns.”
That was the answer given to Seto when he tried to get it Sunday, like they weren’t all in the same damned room for hours. Fine, then, he was going to get it his own way, and work from what he could remember in the meantime, he thought as he walked briskly down the hallway, flanked by his younger brother. One way or another, he was going to get to the bottom of this, damn it.
Mokuba, sighing and gently nudging Seto so he wouldn’t walk into the employee heading in their direction, asked, again, “Are you sure it wasn’t just Yugi? Because it sounds like it was Yugi.”
Seto opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by a male voice saying, “Dude, you really need to leave that alone; you’re gonna get it infected.”
He turned his head to see who it was. Speak of the devil; there was Yugi himself, standing by a water cooler, being chided by a man with a comparable amount of piercings. Probably someone from VFX; they really go to extremes in that department, but damned if they don’t make dragons look even cooler than they already are. “I know, I know, but I can’t help it…” Yugi replied, playing with a piercing that was increasingly surrounded by an irritated red.
With a sigh and a roll of his eyes, Seto gestured to Yugi and told Mokuba, “Do you really think I wouldn’t notice that hair from a mile away? They may have a similar build, but Yugi hasn’t changed that weird hairstyle since high school; it’s not him.”
“Weird…?” Yugi muttered, scowling at Seto and still insistently twiddling that damned lip ring. In fact, it looked like he was doing it with greater intensity?
Seto grumbled, then took a couple steps closer and grabbed Yugi’s wrist, causing Yugi to let go of the lip ring in shock. “Stop that,” Seto ordered, shoving some lump of plastic hastily grabbed from his pocket into Yugi’s hand. “If you need something to keep your hands busy, use that.”
Yugi, wrist now freed, blinked at the object in his hand. “An infinity cube?”
Mokuba, behind Seto, sighed. “You still carry those around for me?”
“You kept losing or forgetting them.”
“Yeah, when I was ten; I’m nearly an adult now,” Mokuba protested.
Seto produced another fidget toy from a pocket, a little plastic peapod from which he popped a smiling pea out for emphasis. “So you don’t want this, then?”
Mokuba snatched the toy out of Seto’s hand. “I didn’t say that.”
Yugi let out a little laugh before turning his eyes back to the lump of plastic in his hand. “Anyway, I appreciate the thought, but I always end up breaking these things,” he said, trying to pass it back to Seto. “You’d better keep it for Mokuba.”
Holding a hand flat upright, Seto pushed Yugi’s hand and the object back. “Then break it. We have a whole drawer of these damned things at home; one broken one isn’t going to make a difference.”
“He’s not joking; big brother doesn’t do anything halfway and got way too many of them,” Mokuba agreed, repeatedly popping out the smiling pea from his toy.
“Of course I don’t do anything halfway; only losers do that,” Seto said, looking smug.
“I don’t think that’s necessarily a good thing…” Yugi replied, frowning. He looked to the toy again and sighed. “Still… I guess there’s no arguing with you about this. Thanks.”
Seto simply made a non-committal sound of agreement before starting to walk away, gesturing for Mokuba to follow him. “Anyway, I also wouldn’t miss an obvious piercing like that one, either,” Seto said, continuing the line of thought from before.
The sound of plastic being a little too forcefully clacked together rang out behind them, but only Mokuba paid it any mind. “Y’know, he could have gotten it on Sunday…”
Another loud clack. “Do you really think it would have gotten that irritated if he’s only had it one day? I’m hardly a professional in the field, but he would have had to be fiddling with that non-stop to look like that.”
A louder sound of plastic cracking this time, followed by a quiet “fuck.” Seto stopped once again and looked over his shoulder at Yugi. “… go to the break room and take a moment to breathe; you clearly can’t get back to work like this.”
Yugi, startled, accidentally tossed the cube in the air for a moment before struggling (but successfully managing) to catch the object. “Y-yeah, I should do that…”
“Stay away from the coffee while you’re there; it’ll only make you more jittery.”
“R-right!” Yugi said, turning tail and walking away faster than Seto had ever seen him move in a long time. Anxiety’s just like that, Seto guessed.
Not that it matters at all; Seto has his own business to attend to. He turned back to his brother, who was looking back at the direction Yugi had gone with a worried (suspicious?) frown, and urged him to keep moving. There was a mystery to get to the bottom of here, damn it; there was no time to worry about Yugi being… Yugi.
------------
Once Yugi turned the corner, he bolted to the nearest mens’ room, locked himself in a stall, and plunked himself down on the toilet, shaking like a leaf and still clutching the (probably broken already) cube. Shit, how did that breathing thing go? In for four, hold for seven, out for eight? In four, out four? Ugh, trying to figure out the math only stressed him out more, so he settled for fishing out his phone and watching cat videos until he settled down instead. Bless you, Maru the cat and his owner for uploading the vids.
After a while of watching said cat jump into boxes in increasingly silly ways, his racing mind finally settled enough to attempt sorting things out in his head. So, one, Kaiba told his brother about the thing. OK, fine, makes sense enough. Two, Mokuba is too damned smart for Yugi’s own good. Three, thankfully Kaiba is too dense for his own good and doesn’t think it’s him. Four, is Kaiba looking for him, or were they just talking about it? Yugi just doesn’t know, and he doesn’t like that he doesn’t know.
Ugh. Maybe he should have just pretended he was sick and called off like he had wanted to. But no, that would have just made mom and, worse, his grandpa worry about him instead and that’d be stressful in its own right. Grandpa was already suspicious something happened that night, and god, sure, his grandpa was chill and he trusted him and all, but he did NOT want to have that kind of conversation with him.
… really, he should talk with someone about this, but—
Before he could finish making excuses to himself, a knock on the stall pulled him out of his thoughts. “Hey, are you OK? You’ve been in there a while,” a familiar male voice asked.
Ah. Kuroda must have been worried and followed him here. “… y-yeah, I’m feeling a bit better now. Thanks for asking, tho’,” Yugi replied.
“Sure, no prob,” Kuroda said. There was a pause, followed by, “… so, what was that about, anyway? You’re kinda famous for bein’ the one guy around here who isn’t intimidated by the big bossman.”
Yugi leaned forward, resting his elbow on his upper leg and holding his head with one hand, and groaned. “It’s… a long story. Let’s just say I’m trying to figure out how to do damage control for a pretty big mistake and leave it at that.”
“Gotcha.” A pause. “… y’need me to let someone in your department know you’re gonna be a minute in here?”
“Nah, I have my phone to let ‘em know if I’m gonna take that long,” Yugi said. “Thanks, tho’.”
“Sure, no problem.” Another pause, followed by the awkward shuffling of feet. “Y’know, if you do wanna talk later, tho’, you got my LINE ID.”
Yugi let out a weak laugh. “Yeah, I know. I’ll be OK, I just… need another minute, that’s all.”
“Sure, gotcha. Feel better, man.”
Yugi waited until he could no longer hear footsteps walking away before he heaved a big sigh. He was 100% not going to talk to a workmate about what had happened, but Kuroda had a point; he really should talk to someone about this mess. It had completely slipped his mind yesterday, considering he crashed not long after returning from his appointment and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening face-down on his pillow, which left him in the same predicament as the night before. Namely, did he really want to bother anyone in the middle of this night with this mess? Not to mention the time difference when it came to contacting Anzu…
He set his phone and the damaged infinity cube on his lap, then lightly slapped his cheeks with both hands. C’mon, Yugi, man up, he thought to himself. It wasn’t even lunchtime yet, he had the whole rest of the day of work to get through, and then, finally, figuring out who to reach out to. He can do it, he thought.
Collecting his items first, he rose from his seat and opened the stall door. No more stalling; it was time to get back to work.

Hii could u please do 50,27,18 and 7. 🍓
Hey! And I was able to confirm this is in regards to Seto Kaiba. Thank you for the ask!
7. Age/height/weight headcanon
I try to stick with canon for the characters’ ages. I do go with ~4.5 years as the age gap between Seto and Mokuba. The characters’ heights have been listed and I guess I aim for those in a general sense but I also understand the characters physically grow through the series. Seto does seem shorter at his introduction than further on in the series after all – I think his listed height is that later height he’s grown into. The weights that were listed in the guidebook are generally pretty awful and can be ignored but I don’t really know how to estimate a person’s weight. If I’m honest, I do personally prefer twig Seto to beefy Seto.
18. What they’d go to see a therapist about
I feel like it would take a lot of time for Seto to warm up to the idea of therapy (trusting some stranger with feelings you aren’t even supposed to have (he thinks) because that stranger has some degree?) and then even more time to be able to actually properly communicate with a therapist. I’ve been in that position of being in therapy but basically communicating nothing of value – I feel like that would be a hurdle as well for someone who’s struggled to communicate and understand their emotions in a straightforward way for so long.
I think a trick would be for the therapist to ask Seto how he feels about the cards in his deck as a start. Just talk about how he feels about  each card.
But how did Seto get here….? I feel like maybe Mokuba would be the one to finally get him to budge on it, but I do think it’d take some months before Seto would be able to actually open up at all to the therapist. A lot of useless sessions before that point. But maybe it depends. I can’t say for sure how it’d go because therapists are people too and very varied, and chemistry with the client varies. Or maybe Seto does try to open up because he’s at a breaking point and it tries to come out of him… but he doesn’t have the words. And the therapist may have the means of being able to help him form those words or maybe the therapist is kind of not great at this or even the therapist ends up causing Seto to clam up again. I do know therapy can be very helpful so I don’t want to discredit it, but it does take time and work. And you can’t pressure someone into opening up to it before they’re ready and get outstanding results.
Why does Seto need therapy… I don’t know that he could word it all yet. I don’t know that he could answer that yet. It’s so complicated and cloudy and he’s not supposed to trust others or have these feelings… But talking about things also might help if he tried. Who knows…
27. Their guilty pleasure
Seto is so rigid and it’s kind of like he can’t allow himself to be, by his metric, frivolous. Which is also kind of silly because Seto is so extravagant about a card game and in his flashy coats and flying in his jet. But I also understand why he has that disconnect. I almost feel like he’s kind of punishing himself with denying himself certain pleasures --- like I personally think he drinks black coffee because it’s “adult” even though he might actually prefer cream and sugar in the drink.
I wonder if he feels like reading or watching fictional stories is a guilty pleasure, because Gozaburo made him feel that way. A lot of educational books were shoved into his face. Piles of textbooks, so many words and facts. Reading an unserious short story after that might feel just a little weird somehow. Something to get used to again. How would Seto parse the debate over blue curtains…?
50. A memory they’ve blocked out
I think he doesn’t like thinking about how his biological parents died and I think he disconnected from the feelings involved in that. I think chunks of his time with Gozaburo would be hazy. I think Seto’s blocked out a lot of his feelings from his memories. The wounds are there and his feelings end up leaching out in other forms, but he’s also disconnected inside. He doesn’t understand himself but he’s also afraid of being about to see that.
Thank you for the ask. And of course these are just my own ideas for any of these answers. I hope you have a nice day.

PLATONIC REQUEST. Yu-Gi-Oh DM, few years after it finishes. Scenario, or one-shot fic, your choice! Female reader and Kaiba have become great friends after working together for 1-2 years. (Mokuba secretly helped this happen.) Reader calls him Kaiba. Don't make Kaiba too "nice," he's a bit difficult even with his friends. Reader and Kaiba have a bunch of same interests and dramatic personalities, trust each other. But now they're in way over their heads in a dangerous situation, and they know it!
Author Note: Sorry this is so late! Had a bit going on. I hope I fulfilled this request.
Seto Kaiba x Reader Platonic Scenario
Tumblr media
Many years would pass for Kaiba since his teens and in his early twenties he found himself working with his best friends. There was his younger brother and then you. You didn’t always start off as Kaiba’s bestie. In the beginning you were nothing more than his employee. It was your friendship with Mokuba that cemented your own relationship with Kaiba. Though platonic it still came with perks. The Kaiba boys would bring you foods and drinks when arriving to Kaiba Corp. For holidays and birthdays you received the most expensive gifts. In turn you were the true friend they always needed in their lives.
You’ve been friends with Kaiba due to your similar interests and hobbies. Today you brought your deck to show off to Kaiba. You’re hoping to duel him after work if he wasn’t too busy. You’re sure his schedule would allow him seeing as he adores dueling.
Upon entering his office you’re faced with his grouchy expression and dark circles underneath his blue eyes. Your mouth is agap knowing why he would have such an expression. He most likely had a double and hasn’t had his morning coffee.
“I know that look. Missing your coffee Kaiba boy?”
Kaiba huffs at the nickname, knowing how much he loathes Pegasus. He also knows you’re trying to get a reaction out of him. He yawns before standing from his desk.
“You have coffee or what?” He finally asked.
“Yeah black like your heart.”
He laughs before grabbing the white mug from your hand. He gives you a rare grin before sipping his steamy beverage. You know it was out of gratitude.
“You being in here means one thing.”
“That’s right, Kaiba! I’m here to challenge you to a duel! I’m sure I can beat your blue eyes this time!”
“Ha! Guess we’ll see. I accept your challenge. After lunch, got it?”
You nod, eager to duel your friend. Many liked witnessing your duels since Kaiba actually respected you. It would be a friendly duel with jokes and joy. A scene not many saw from the infamous duelist. He still takes his dueling career as seriously as he did in his teens. Now he isn’t as much of a hard ass or sore loser about it. Another defining detail of such a duel is your dramatic side.
For you dueling Kaiba is always fun. He’s always amused during duels and genuinely enjoys them. Your jokes always get him chuckling. Many times he’s commending you when the duel ends in a draw. You have yet to beat him but you do hope to one day. Kaiba always mentions how he wouldn’t allow it since you’d receive bragging rights. Something you make fun of him half heartedly for.
You’re sure he wants to duel after lunch since he’s tired and wants a bit of a break from work. He must be busy with his construction for a school he hopes to open. All he has mentioned is it would be a school for dueling. You’re not sure if he’s serious or not since he’s always sounding sarcastic. He said it would be many years before the school would be open. You're unsure what to think of it.
Later on while you both dueled each other, you both ended up at the front of Kaiba corp. While the sun was going down you two got done with your duel. You lost but it was a close duel having even Kaiba on his toes. Afterwards you both noticed a stranger nearby. Behind you to be more precise.
"Who the hell are you?" Kaiba questioned with annoyance.
The stranger said not a word as he brought out a knife from their pocket. The tip was pointed at you. You gasp wondering what the intentions of this person could be. Kaiba ran over to you but the stranger commanded him to stop. He made his intentions clear to Kaiba by demanding his wallet. Kaiba scoffed at such a thought since he carries many of his cards on him. His blue eyes look over to you in worry.
"Fine." He grunts with anger radiating from him.
As Kaiba walks over to the stranger while you're frozen with fear. The knife pointed directly toward your neck keeping you in place. Kaiba was already plotting what he would do to the scum threatening his friends life. He held out his leather wallet while you step towards your friend to safety. When you're far away enough Kaiba puts his plan to motion.
Hi long leg extends tripping the stranger off their feet. While they land on their back Seto takes it upon himself to grab his wallet and throw you over his shoulder to run off. He was very quick and sudden you're sure you'd be screaming if you weren't so surprised.
When back inside Kaiba corp he ordered security to get rid of the hooded stranger. It did look comical with him barking orders while you're over his shoulder with a confused expression. He set you down but rolled his eyes.
"Dork, did you really think I'd let him get away with it?"
"No Kaiba sir!" You jokingly said.
"Pft." He raised his brow in amusement. "Where would you be without your boss?" Kaiba made a smug expression.
"Thanks for saving me back there but don’t get too cocky.” You huffed.
“Amusing, you damsel in distress.”
You cuss under your breath before jumping on his back to put him in a headlock. You know he was joking but it was time for one of your iconic Kaiba headlocks.
“You dweeb!!” He tried getting you off his back to no avail.

Chapter 1
“What kind of girl do you think my brother likes?”
You looked up from your textbook to give Mokuba a raised eyebrow. “Girls? I was under the impression that your brother went for something with scales.”
“Ha. Ha,” Mokuba deadpanned. “But seriously! I’m trying to come up with a list of things he’d like… and it’s really hard.”
If you knew what Seto Kaiba liked in a woman… well, you’d make good use of that information. You frowned, pretending to think about it. As if you didn’t ponder on it all too often. “Blue eyes?” Mokuba started writing, and you almost felt bad about where you were going with this. “Very, very fair skin. Like white. Let’s just say white like a crayon. Wings. She’s gotta have wings.”
You grinned as Mokuba stopped writing to glare at you. He tore the page out of his notebook, balled it up, and threw it at you. You knocked the paper ball off to the side and watched it hit the ground. Then you leaned forward. “You’d better get that before someone takes a picture of you littering.”
“You’re the worst friend.” He got up to grab the paper before shoving it into his bag, presumably to throw it away later when his bag was too full of trash to function.
You didn’t want to ask why Mokuba wanted you to speculate on what his brother liked. Showing too much interest in his brother might tip Mokuba off to the very secret fact that you were way too interested in his brother. At the same time, you really wanted to know. “Why are you trying to figure out what your brother might like anyway?” You looked back down at your textbook, pretending to work, pretending that you didn’t really care about the answer.
“He needs someone.”
You were alert. “He said that?”
“No.” Mokuba shrugged. “But he’s so obsessed with work right now. And now that I’m not home as much, I don’t think he’s eating. I think having a girlfriend would be good for him.”
You looked around the library as you leaned on the table. Nobody seemed to be in earshot, but you didn’t want to be the cause of the next trashy article. You gestured for Mokuba to lean closer to you. “Do you even know if he’s into girls?” After all, his obsession with that Yugi Motou person hadn’t been too fabricated in the papers… You’d always wondered.
“Well, shit.” Mokuba threw his pen down on the table as he leaned back. “No. I mean, I assume he is… but he’s never… well, I’ve never seen him with anyone.” He looked around at the library. “I think I may need your help.”
“Help setting your brother up with someone? I don’t have a death wish.” You also really didn’t want to. Mokuba couldn’t have come up with a crueler task.
“Please?” Mokuba gave you his best puppy eyes. “I know that you don’t really care about my brother, but do it for me? I’m really worried about him.”
“No, Mokuba. No.” You stared him down, unmoved by the eyes he was making. He was wrong about why you wouldn’t help. “I don’t have time to go searching for a magic unicorn that could tempt Seto Kaiba. Take him to a bar or something.”
“You know he would never.”
You nodded. You did know that. It was why you’d suggested it. “I don’t know what to tell you, Mokuba. Buy him a puppy?” You checked the time. It wasn’t time for your next class, but you couldn’t let Mokuba convince you to help him. You needed out of this conversation. “I’ve gotta head across campus for my next class. I’ll see you later.” You piled all your stuff into your bag.
“Yeah. I’m picking you up tonight?”
You stared at him for a moment, and then you remembered that your roommates were having a party tonight. The joys of finishing midterms early. “I guess.” You weren’t in the mood for more of Mokuba trying to matchmake his brother, but you’d be able to study and sleep at his place.
He grinned, probably planning all the ways he could convince you to help him in his dumb quest. “Okay. See you at seven or do you want to have dinner together?”
“No. Seven is fine.” You shouldered your bag. “Bye.” It was hard to pretend you weren’t upset, and your goodbye came out snappier than you intended. You hurried away before Mokuba could say anything. Hopefully he would forget by tonight.
Later that night, you threw an overnight bag into Mokuba’s backseat and hoped he would move on to a new subject.
“I tried talking to Seto’s assistant today. She didn’t know anything either.”
Well that would be a no. “Mokuba, if you don’t know anything about your brother’s preferences… literally nobody else will.” Maybe if you hammered the point home enough, Mokuba would give up on this. “If he isn’t interested in dating, you won’t be able to convince him otherwise. Maybe he’s happy with the way things are.”
“He’s not happy!”
You grabbed the door as Mokuba revved the engine and cut around another driver. You knew that Mokuba worried too much about his brother. It was normal for Mokuba to get distressed anytime he really talked about him. You wanted to be a good friend and help Mokuba out.
But his plan was dumb on so many levels, and you refused to go along with it.
“Did something happen recently?” you asked, wondering if something had triggered this.
“He’s…” Mokuba sighed. “It’s a long story.”
That was code for, ‘It’s a story I won’t tell you’. You were used to Mokuba being private about his brother, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. “Well, let me know if you want to talk about it.”
“I do want to talk about how we can find people for him to meet.”
“Fair.” You shifted in the seat, trying to think of ways to turn this conversation to anything else. “When did this turn into finding people for him though? I’m not sure your brother is the harem type.”
“No. But you’re right that I don’t know his type. So I was thinking maybe if I found different people that I think he’d like… I could set him up on dates and maybe one would work out?”
Multiple people… all on dates with Seto Kaiba… You felt your stomach roll at the thought. “Now you sound like some sort of matchmaker.” You tried to keep your tone light. It was a joke. You were joking about this. You weren’t feeling sick at the thought at all.
And Mokuba chuckled. “Hopefully I will be.”
You told yourself it would all be pointless in the end. Seto Kaiba didn’t like people. Mokuba couldn’t find anyone to interest his brother.
Mokuba began talking about things he thought his brother would appreciate. Intelligence was, obviously, the biggest thing he would look for, but he also thought his brother might enjoy having someone with the same interests as him. You gave him just enough of a response to keep him babbling on as you tried to turn your face into stone. You did not need to give away your pathetic feelings on the matter.
When Mokuba pulled into his driveway, you felt relief. Finally this conversation could end! “Don’t you have a midterm tomorrow, too?”
“Yeah, but it’s no big deal.”
This was one of those times where his ability to just get good grades made you jealous. “Well, help me study then. You can quiz me.”
“Wait, let me get that!” Mokuba rushed around the car to grab your things before you could get them out of the backseat.”I can’t let a lady carry this heavy bag!”
You just rolled your eyes. Protesting was pointless so you followed Mokuba into the mansion and up to the guest bedroom that had become your usual place to stay. “I still think you should move in with us,” he said as he dropped your things on the bed.
“Yeah, I can’t afford the rent on a place like this.” Also, you would be so uncomfortable living under the same roof as Seto Kaiba… if he even allowed it to happen.
“Free? You can’t afford free?”
“Nope. I’m that poor. Besides, what if you start dating the beautiful Tris? I can’t imagine she’d like you living with some other woman.” You grabbed your textbook and your laptop. “Library? You are going to help me study, right?”
“Yeah… um… speaking of Tris…” Mokuba looked off to the side and rubbed one of his shoulders. “She kind of… we have a date tonight doyoumindifIditchyouforabit?”
“Mokuba you jerk! When were you going to tell me?!” You felt the urge to throw something at him, but the objects in your hands were too heavy. His guilty expression told you he’d intended to keep it a secret. “No! Were you just going to go to the bathroom for a few hours again?”
“I mean it was an idea‒”
“I THOUGHT YOU WERE SERIOUSLY SICK!”
He held out his hands. “Jeez. Calm down.”
“No!” What a jerk. You’d wandered around the mansion for a good thirty minutes concerned that he needed you to call someone for help only to find out that he’d snuck out on you. You were still mad about it. “What am I supposed to do without you?! Twiddle my thumbs?”
“Study? I thought you had a lot of work to do for your midterms?” He grinned, but you didn’t return the smile. “C’mon,” he begged, “you would have pretended to find somewhere else to stay if I’d told you, and I don’t want you falling asleep in the library.”
“Fine.” You turned around with a huff. “I’ll just be here looking for the best blackmail material to sell.” You stormed off to the library knowing he would follow.
He popped up next to you, easily keeping up with his longer legs. “I think you have plenty of sellable material at this point.”
You just glared at him. “Maybe your brother would like to know some of it.”
Mokuba just laughed, knowing full well that you knew the story of what happened to the Blue Eyes Jet. “I doubt he’ll be home anytime tonight but good luck.”
Well, that was good news at least. You could avoid making a fool of yourself if Seto Kaiba weren’t here.
Then again… it was hard to resist the impulse to raid his room for a t-shirt like the lunatic that you were... “You really shouldn’t trust me alone here,” you mused aloud.
Mokuba shrugged. “I mean we have security so it’s not like you can do too much damage.”
Right. Security. How could you ask where the cameras were located without seeming suspicious? Surely there weren’t any in the bedrooms…
“They could see if I snuck into your room and shredded all your clothes?”
He scoffed. “We both know you wouldn’t.”
Well, that didn’t answer the question at all. “If I don’t, it’s only because you can easily afford more.”
As the two of you entered the Kaiba library, you looked around and took a deep breath. This room never failed to make you feel both joy and envy at the same time. It had walls and walls of books with both couches and desks to choose from. There was even a massive window with its own bench to relax on. The only thing missing was a fireplace.
Well… and someone to snuggle up to as you read… but honestly, that was so far removed from possible reality that you weren’t sure it could even be called a fantasy.
“Ok. I guess you can leave now if you need to,” you said as you spread your stuff out across a desk.
Mokuba checked his phone. “No, it’s cool. I still have some time before our date.” He sat down in one of the chairs with a grin. “I’m taking her to that place with the rooftop bar but our reservation isn’t until a little later.”
“Oooooh fancy.” Now this was a conversation you could get behind. You slid into a chair next to Mokuba. “When did you get the guts to ask her out? And how come I didn’t get a text immediately?”
“Uh, it only just happened today actually. I ran into her when I was leaving the library, and she actually recognized me!”
You rolled your eyes. Who wouldn’t recognize Mokuba?
“No, she recognized me from our class!” he defended, apparently able to read your mind. “She asked me about the midterm, and we started talking. She said she was done with midterms so I asked her to come celebrate with me tonight.”
“Nevermind that you aren’t done,” you interrupted.
He just waved a hand at you. “She said yes! So I called that place and begged for a reservation.”
“It is a nice place for a date. What are you planning to wear?”
“Jeans and a dress shirt?” He winked.
You gave him a thumbs up. “You’ve been learning, and you’re picking her up yes?”
He tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. “You think you have to ask.”
You lifted your hands in surrender. “Sorry. You were just such a caveman when we met.” You sighed. “I guess you probably should get ready though.” You looked at the books that you didn’t want to open and then back at Mokuba. “Can I help?”
He just shrugged. “I only need to change shirts really, but you can tell me what you think of my plans for the date.” He led you off to his room, filling you in on the rest of his plan as you used him to put off studying. It was nice to have him distracted away from the subject of his brother, and you encouraged him by letting him know his plan was a good one. After all, a romantic dinner on a rooftop terrace surrounded by twinkle lights? Tris would melt. You knew that you would.
As Mokuba got dressed in his walk-in closet, you noticed a pink thing sitting on top of his display case. Curious, you stood up and pulled it off to unfold it for a better look. It was a pink jacket that you didn’t think would fit Mokuba.
“What’s this?” you asked as he emerged from the closet.
Disgust took over his face. “Ugh, Lily left it here last time I saw her.”
“Oh.” You dropped the jacket as if it had a disease. That shouldn’t have come as a surprise. Both of you had blocked her number after she had repeatedly tried to convince Mokuba to date her again. But that had been months ago. “Why do you still have it?”
He shrugged. “I just haven’t tossed it out yet, I guess. I dunno. I didn’t really even realize it.” He ran a hand through his hair. “Can you just throw it in the trash in my bathroom?”
“Sure.” You scooped up the jacket and carried it into his massive bathroom. As you dumped it into the trash, you hoped Mokuba wasn’t still hurt from that particular breakup. It had been nasty.
On your way out, you grabbed his brush. “Tame your hair,” you ordered as you tossed the brush to Mokuba.
He scoffed but used the brush anyway. You assessed his outfit. It was basic, but he looked good in it. Other than his hair, he didn’t need anymore work to look nice. “I guess I better actually get to work then?”
Mokuba grinned and stopped brushing his hair to stride over and give you a hug. “You know you won’t even notice I’m gone.”
“Yeah, yeah.” You hugged him back and then pulled away. “Just do us both a favor and don’t bring her back here tonight.”
“I’m offended. You know I’m too classy for that.”
“HOPEFULLY you’re too wary of strangers for that, but you keep leaving me alone here so I don’t know if that’s true.”
“Please. You’re family at this point, and I’d give you a key if you would take it.”
“A symbolic key?”
“You know what I mean.”
“Yeah, well.” You gave him a once-over look again. “Have fun.”
“Thanks. You too.” He winked at you.
You retreated to the library, able to make your way around the Kaiba mansion alone with ease, and made yourself comfortable. You appreciated the fact that Mokuba was willing to just leave you alone in his home even if you protested that he shouldn’t be so trusting. You set up your books and computer on the table and played music since you were alone in the library (and other than the staff, probably the entire mansion). At some point, a maid came by and provided you with tea to keep you going, and you found yourself getting a lot of work done.
When the door opened much later in the evening, you looked up with a grin, expecting it to be Mokuba back from a victorious date. Your grin faded once you saw Seto Kaiba standing in the doorway.
He stared at you for a moment with a frown before striding into the room and looking around. The frown on his face deepened. Then he looked back at you. “Where is Mokuba?”
“Um. Uh.” You hated yourself for stumbling over nonsense words as you tried to figure out what to tell him. Should you tell him Mokuba was on a date? “I… um, he… stepped out? To get something?” The words all came out as uncertain questions, and you knew that Seto Kaiba was currently judging you as an idiot. But at least that ship had sailed a long time ago, and you didn’t think you had any chance of proving otherwise to him.
Even as Seto Kaiba pinned you with a frown, you couldn’t help but notice that he looked terrible. The bags under his eyes were so deep that he almost looked like he’d been punched. His hair looked unwashed, and his clothing was wrinkled. When was the last time he’d done anything to take care of himself?
You understood why Mokuba was worried.
Then Kaiba grunted at you and left without another word. You watched him leave, wondering if he even knew your name. If he did, he never used it.
After he left, you couldn’t focus on your work. You were too unsettled by Kaiba’s appearance. Even if he sometimes looked like he didn’t remember what sleep was, Seto Kaiba had never looked so messy. He was a man who cared about appearances and looked down on sloppy people.
You gave up trying to get anything else done tonight and checked the time. Mokuba’s date must have been going well if he was still out. Well, he would know where to find you. You left your books and notes on the table, fully intending to return back to work here in the morning, and carried your laptop back to your room.
As you walked past Kaiba’s room, you noticed that there wasn’t a light shining under the door. You hesitated, wondering if he was asleep. Then you looked both ways to see if anyone was in the hallway. Nobody was around so you pressed your ear to the door. You knew you were acting weird, but you couldn’t help but wonder what was going on in that room.
You stroked the handle of the door, but you weren’t brave enough to turn it. Maybe another time.
Hopefully you never would. You didn’t think you could look Mokuba in the eyes knowing you took advantage of his friendship to creep on his brother.
In your guest room, you curled up in bed thinking about Seto Kaiba in a similar bed only a few rooms over. Mokuba knew his brother better than anyone, but surely he was wrong about his brother just needing to find someone to date.
And if Seto Kaiba needed a girlfriend, why couldn’t it be you?

So, a while back i wrote some notes for a fanfic idea that I had, about Kaiba adopting Jaden when he was very little; there is a lot of fanart about it and a few fanfics too, but a lot of them focused on ships i don't care a lot about so i wanted to write my own take on it... the only problem being that i haven't watched a lot of GX yet, so I didn't feel that confident on writing it, also don't really have a lot of free time.
So i'm posting my notes on it here! Maybe i finish it someday, i don't know, but here it is:
Plot: Jaden Yuki is actually Seto Kaiba’s adopted son, probably named Jaden Kaiba. His biological parents died when he was very young, and Kaiba at the time wanted to adopt a child (he would not admit it out loud, but he was feeling a bit lonely after Mokuba grew up and started to study a lot more and go out with friends, and so decided to adopt someone).
His personality is still pretty similar to the original, very cheery, lazy and childish, but a little smarter since he studied a lot more when he was younger (not a lot though…).
His relationship with his father is a little… complicated. His father clearly loves him, and wants to protect Jaden of any problem that could happen. Jaden also loves his father, and thinks that he is super cool and talented. But Kaiba can be quite clueless about people’s emotions and needs sometimes, and Jaden is pretty reckless and energetic in a way that frustrates his father quite often.
He also wants him to inherit KaibaCorp one day, something that Jaden really does not want to do (he finds this kind of job very boring) and instead wants to become a professional duelist, and become the next king of games. I imagine that the stuff with Yubel happening with him during his childhood too, and I can’t imagine that Seto would want him to spend a lot of his time dueling after all that.
He met Yugi and friends quite a few times, usually on his birthdays. Kaiba did not invite them, of course, but Mokuba wanted the closest thing he had to friends to meet his son. Jaden loves Joey and Yugi, and imitates them a lot, something that annoys his father quite a bit.
(BTW, Yugi has retired from dueling, and now works making games and in his grandfather’s gameshop. He works for KaibaCorp, and can give advice to Kaiba and Mokuba on how to deal with some of Jaden’s emotions sometimes.)
Besides Yugi’s friends, he also probably met Pegasus before (though I doubt that his father ever told him about the bad things he did in the past), as well as Zigfried and Chazz’s brothers. In fact he probably met Chazz when he was younger, but he would not recognize Jaden now.
That’s because Jaden would not be recognizable as Kaiba’s son for the average person; for one, Kaiba decided to not put the spotlight on his son a lot, especially after his childhood, mostly by the insistence of Mokuba to give him a better life as a teen and also stop him from getting kidnapped a lot. He also usually changes Jaden’s hair with gel when they are together, so people won't really know him by his natural “Kuriboh hair” look.
He ends up going to Duel Academy after fighting with his father about his future, with him initially not wanting his son to go; he creates a fake last name (Yuki, inspired by Yugi) and never tells his friends, other students or teachers about the fact that Seto Kaiba is his father (maybe Shepard knows about it, Crowler definitely does not); his father also does not know initially, but Jaden tells him pretty early on and he begrudgingly accepts it. He calls his father on the phone sometimes, probably lies about being in Obelisk Blue. (maybe his father learns the truth later on, won't tell Jaden though.)
That means that when he helps people with their family problems (Syrus, Chumley, Chazz, Alexis… a lot of people actually) it feels very strange for him; he does not know how to solve the problems with his own father, and just wants to run away from his problems with him.
Eventually i guess Kaiba would finally visit his own school and finally discuss things with Jaden face to face, probably the two would fight about his choices for his future and the fact he's in Slifer. Jaden's friends would probaby be shocked to say the least

Psychology Part 2: Seto Kaiba
This would cover mainly what i observed within myself as someone who grew up with a doctrine equivalent (Sort of because my parents perpetuated the abuse and none of the is dead so it has it differences here) to that of his.
I shall call this part the invisible scars… because i saw how many argued the possibility of Seto Kaiba having scars due to the physical abuse he received… let me assure you that he doesnt… how you may ask? Because rich people whenever they abuse their children they would make sure that the physical scar shows for a long time in the most hidden places of the body but not permanently.
You can clearly note that Seto Kaiba had what looks like a dog’s collar and Gozaburo was carrying a stick? (not sure what to even call it) to torture him with it. However… he would look completely normal when taken to events along with Mokuba… the point is the abuse would hurt so bad… in a mental level. It is meant to torture the child. Make him lose his mind trying to understand why the torture is directed towards said child and while the concept started in his mind the moment he was abandoned it is safe to say that it only accentuated in Gozaburo’s care.
It means that Seto Kaiba as a child was (and i did too) in constant survival mode. Constant physical and emotional suffering perhaps beyond the capacity of understanding of others. He was a ‘father’ to his brother… a protector who took the pain to shield a sibling. A child that mourned his parent’s death. A spiteful kid who saw betrayal at it’s finest and how even the closest relatives can turn against you for a little bit of cash and a helpless little boy being abused in the most twisted ways… so if Seto Kaiba has scars trust that it was in the heart and mind. Never body wise.
PS: please like and comment if you want me to continue… (This is very emotional for me as well Free therapy is guess? I hesitated a lot to post more..) but thank you for reading…
