We've never had a time when we've exported more crude oil than we've imported, but there are times that we've exported more petroleum products than we've imported. Petroleum products includes crude oil, gasoline, diesel fuels, jet fuel, plastics, and much more. Anything that can be made from what comes out of oil wells.
That negative net imports era began in 2020 under Trump, and he touted it as 'energy independence.' Exporting more plastics than we import doesn't really relate to energy independence, though. Real energy independence starts with exporting more crude oil than we import.
But the net exports of petroleum products that Trump celebrated as an accomplishment are greater now than they ever were then.

Quote
With a small dip in the Indian currency, the Indian government has to pay a little extra for the same goods it was importing earlier. So, importing items get more expensive. Oil imports will get costlier, which has a direct impact on prices of many other things – anything that needs to be transported will (if it hasn’t, already) now see an increase in its prices. India currently imports 85% of its oil demand and the rise in crude oil prices directly increases import bill and expenses.

India’s Growing Reliance on Oil Imports Signals Concerns for FY24
As we approach the end of the financial year 2023–24 (FY24), India faces a sobering reality: its dependence on imported crude oil is on the rise, potentially reaching unprecedented levels. According to recent data released by the oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), India’s reliance on imported crude surged to nearly 88% in the period from April to February, indicating a trend that could see FY24 surpass the record high levels of the previous year.
Tumblr media
Despite efforts to bolster domestic production, India’s self-sufficiency in crude oil dwindled to just 12.3% during the April-February period, a decline from 12.8% in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. This decline in self-sufficiency is primarily attributed to stagnant domestic crude oil output coupled with escalating demand for fuel and petroleum products.
Over the years, India’s reliance on oil imports has been steadily increasing, barring a brief respite in FY21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic-induced slowdown. The country’s dependence on imported crude stood at 85.5% in FY22, with previous years witnessing a similar upward trajectory. Despite governmental aspirations to curtail this reliance — with targets set as early as 2015 to reduce oil imports to 67% by 2022 — the actual dependency has only surged, making the Indian economy susceptible to global oil price fluctuations and impacting various economic indicators such as foreign trade deficit, foreign exchange reserves, and inflation rates.
In response to this escalating dependence, the government has been advocating for alternative energy sources such as electric mobility and biofuels to mitigate the reliance on costly oil imports. Efforts to augment domestic crude oil output through incentivizing exploration and production contracts and opening up new areas for hydrocarbon exploration have also been intensified. However, these measures have yet to yield significant offsets to the burgeoning demand for petroleum products.
India’s refining capacity, exceeding 250 million tonnes per annum, positions it as a net exporter of petroleum products despite being one of the world’s largest importers of crude oil. However, the widening gap between domestic production and consumption underscores the urgency for sustainable solutions to balance energy needs and economic stability.
As we navigate the complexities of India’s energy landscape, the trajectory of oil imports in FY24 will be closely monitored, bearing implications not only for the energy sector but also for broader economic indicators and policy directions. Efforts to diversify energy sources and enhance domestic production remain imperative in ensuring energy security and economic resilience in the years to come.

as we enter the start of a semester and the dreaded Hour of Making Friends us upon us... if ur ever at a loss for what to say in one of those weird social situations where you only vaguely-know people, one of my favorite questions to ask is "what is your favorite food crime." a food crime is like the food combination that you love that other people find revolting. press them to take it further than pineapple on pizza, that's rote. food crimes is a good topic that has many benefits as it turns out all people are degenerates and also it will give you some cool ideas to try out later in the privacy of your own degenerate kitchen
the other good thing to ask is "okay but has anyone here ever been someplace haunted" bc it turns out if you ask most people directly they don't believe in ghosts, but many people are like "oh yeah i lived in a haunted house. ghosts aren't real tho"
#my food crime is that i regularly make a “pasta and tuna” situation that has somehow gotten even more evil and degenerate over time.#it is a ''white wine reduction'' (it's just white wine and garlic powder & seasoning)#and tuna from a can.#and plain pasta.#if i have the spoons i will actually chop garlic for it but this tends to be my comfort food for a REALLY bad day#bc its super easy to make:#boil pasta. drain. put into bowl for later. into same pot u used for pasta.#put tuna (with oil/water from can). let fry a little for like 2-3 min. put in whatever amount of wine. season to taste.#the tuna will get a little crisp on it which is nice. important side note:#this began as a Bolognese sauce.#and one day i had to sub for tuna. i know. not ideal. i cried about it too.#somehow over time it is now its own little evil thing. i would never make someone else eat it. it is beautiful.#but yeah i don't even stir the pasta in afterwards i just slap pasta into serving bowl#slap this ''''''sauce'''''''' on top#molto bene#(i really can cook fairly well btw. this is a food crime. not a suggestion of skill or ability)#(i LOVE baking but when i cook for myself. the autism is obvious. bc i just don't understand the point of most of the steps)#(.... i can just eat the deli meat out of the bag. it is protein. i don't even have to like it. i just have to eat enough calories.)#(also i used to cook MUCH more before this apartment which is so small that i can stretch my arms out and overreach the counter length.)#(.... i'm 5.2. so.)

New EU sanctions to hit Russian oil, target more banks

New EU sanctions to hit Russian oil, target more banks
Tumblr media
Brussels (The Times Groupe)- The European Union will slap new sanctions on Russia for waging war against Ukraine, targeting its oil industry, more Russian banks, and those responsible for misinformation, the EU’s top diplomat said Tuesday.
“We are working on the sixth package of sanctions which aims to de-SWIFT more banks, list disinformation actors and tackle oil imports,” Josep Borrell, head of the foreign policy unit at the EU’s executive European Commission, said in a tweet.
Diplomats say the latest round of sanctions would also affect top Russian lender Sberbank (SBER.MM), adding it to a list of other banks prevented from using SWIFT messaging.
Borell said the 27 EU states would be asked to approve the Commission’s proposal against Russia for attacking Ukraine by land, sea, and air on Feb. 24.
On Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to unveil the proposed new sanctions, which include a ban on imports of Russian oil by the end of this year.
Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West that he could halt exports and deals due to the sanctions burden imposed by the EU and the United States.
As the EU is reliant on Russian oil for 26% of its oil imports, an embargo on Russian oil would deprive Moscow of a significant revenue stream. However, reaching an agreement on the measure has divided countries of the bloc.
Hungary and Germany had reservations about an oil embargo. Their main concern was that rising energy prices would hurt already inflagged EU economies.
Reuters reported that resistance to an oil import ban had waned over the past week as an agreement came together that would exempt Slovakia and Hungary, two countries highly dependent on Russian crude oil.
Over 47 billion euros ($47.43 billion) has been paid by EU countries to Russia for gas and oil since it invaded Ukraine, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
