Best All-Time Celebrity Met Gala Fashion Outfits
Scroll To See More Images
For serious fans of fashion, there’s no bigger red-carpet affair than the annual Costume Institute Benefit—a.k.a. the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, or Met Gala for short—where celebrities and high fashion collide in a bonanza of couture gowns that more than rivals the Oscars in unabashed glamour. Part of the evening’s fun—even for us spectators—is seeing what attendees choose to wear on the red carpet at the Gala, which will be held Monday night. Considering attendees’ high-design attire is typically loosely inspired by the exhibition’s theme, we have a feeling this particular red carpet will be one for the record books, and we’ll see some of the best Met Gala dresses yet.
However, before we can look ahead to this year’s extravaganza, we decided to look back at some past memorable Met Gala gowns that we’re still talking about.
From supermodels (Karolina Kurkova in a head-to-toe custom Rachel Zoe creation that resembled liquid gold, Gisele Bündchen’s red-hot Valentino, Anja Rubik’s skin-baring Anthony Vaccarello) and starlets (Beyoncé in showstopping Givenchy, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu) to the fash pack (Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs, Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior, Zoe Kravitz in Alexander Wang), there’s no denying that everyone who shows up to the year’s most major red carpet does so with a serious fashion moment in mind.

Rihanna, Met Gala 2017
As an annual Met Gala favorite, Rihanna didn’t disappoint when she wore a Comme des Garçons structured flower-like dress by Rei Kawakubo, a Japanese designer who was honored with that year’s theme. The look, which was straight from Comme des Garçons’s Fall 2016 runway, used floral fabrics, which were layered and pulled apart to look like petals.

Zendaya, Met Gala 2017
Though Zendaya strayed from 2017’s avant-garde theme, she still shut down the red carpet when she showed up in a colorful Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda ball gown decorated with vibrant orange and blue parrots. Z complemented her look, which boasted a floor-length train, with a voluminous Afro.

Cardi B, Met Gala 2018
Cardi B’s 2018 MOSCHINO Met Gala look (with the theme Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination) was beyond iconic.

Taylor Swift, Met Gala 2016
As 2016’s Met Gala chair, Taylor Swift created chatter on the internet for the metallic minidress she wore in honor of that year’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. The look consisted of a robot-like Louis Vuitton dress with cutouts and a ruffled skirt with knee-high lace-up heels and black lipstick complementing Swift’s electric-blonde hair.

Solange, Met Gala 2016
Solange didn’t exactly fit 2016’s technology-inspired theme, but many fans considered her lemonade-yellow David Laport dress, which featured accordion-like pleats, to be a nod to her sister Beyoncé’s album Lemonade, which came out a month earlier. Solange completed her look with matching latex leg warmers and clear sandals.

Lena Waithe, Met Gala 2018
When Master of None’s Lena Waithe showed up to the 2018 Met Gala in a literal rainbow cape, we knew it was going to be a good night.

Lupita Nyong’o, Met Gala 2016
Lupita Nyong’o stunned on the Met Gala red carpet in 2016 when she wore a jade sequined Calvin Klein shift dress with a near-translucent train. But it was her hair that caught the attention of the internet. Shortly after Nyong’o walked the red carpet, Vogue published an article comparing her sky-high bun to Audrey Hepburn’s in a 1963 Vogue photo shoot. The actress later called out the magazine on Instagram, explaining that her hair wasn’t inspired by Hepburn, but by traditional African hairstyles and Nina Simone.
J. Kempin/Getty Images.
Kendall Jenner, Met Gala 2017
Kendall Jenner definitely turned heads in 2017 when she showed up at the Met Gala in a near-naked La Perla dress. The sheer look, which featured a large diagonal cutout on Jenner’s torso, was flecked with glitter and featured a low-scooped open back, revealing Jenner’s derriere.
J. Kempin/Getty Images.
Katy Perry, Met Gala 2017
As one of 2017’s Met Gala chairs, Katy Perry raised the bar when she wore an avant-garde red-tulle dress by John Galliano. The look, which featured a floor-length veil and sleeves embellished with large jewels, also included a crown-like headpiece with the word “Witness,” which would later become the title of Perry’s 2017 album.
Jamie McCarthy/FilmMagic.
Claire Danes, Met Gala 2016
From a first look, Claire Danes’s 2016 sky-blue Cinderella-like Zac Posen ball gown looked like another pretty dress and far from that year’s technology-inspired theme. But in the dark, fans learned that the one-of-a-kind dress was sewn with dozens of fiber optics, allowing it to twinkle with lights when it was pitch-black. Posen revealed the high-tech effect on his Instagram.
Neilson Barnard/Getty Images.
Cara Delevingne, Met Gala 2017
Cara Delevingne took advantage of her freshly shaven head at the 2017 Met Gala by glazing it with slick silver paint. She paired her metallic buzzcut with a sci-fi-inspired pantsuit by Chanel with bold shoulders and a futuristic, star-like pattern.
David Fisher/REX/Shutterstock.
Rihanna, Met Gala 2018
Rihanna really stuck to the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” Met Gala theme when she game dressed as the literal Pope. We’re still screaming about it.
Kevin Mazur/WireImage.
Madonna, Met Gala 2016
Madonna earned mixed reviews when she wore a sheer and skin-baring Givenchy dress to the 2016 Met Gala. The look, which exposed Madonna’s butt and breasts, was criticized by some for being too revealing. Of course, Madonna had the last word. After the controversy, the singer took to her Instagram to explain that her dress was a “political statement” against “an ageist and sexist society.”
Andres Otero/WENN.com.
Kim Kardashian, Met Gala 2013
A pregnant Kim Kardashian didn’t exactly stick to the PUNK: Chaos to Couture theme of 2013’s gala, but her Givenchy dress spawned 10,000 memes—and was of particular significance, given it was the first time Anna Wintour allowed her to attend.
Getty Images.
Diana Ross, Met Gala 1981
Diana Ross’s 1981 Met Gala gown would look right at home on the 2018 red carpet, given fashion’s recent obsession with ruffles and off-the-shoulder cuts.
WENN.com.
Solange, Met Gala 2015
When every other star was tripping over themselves to prove their dresses were the most naked, Solange rolled up to the 2015 Met Gala in this round Giles dress—and killed it.
Mari Sarai/Wireimage.
Amber Valletta, Met Gala 1999
Amber Valletta looked every inch the supermodel in shiny gold at 1999’s “Rock Style” gala.
Andres Otero/WENN.com.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Met Gala 2013
Sarah Jessica Parker, patron saint of the Met Gala, can always be counted on to show up in something fabulously OTT, like this Giles Deacon gown and Philip Treacy Mohawk headpiece in 2013, proving that she truly gets the spirit of the event every year.
Tom Gates/Getty Images.
Diana Vreeland, Met Gala 1981
Legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland and Bill Blass at the 1981 gala, whose theme was “‘Eighteenth Century Woman.”
Flashpoint / WENN.
Lauren Santo Domingo, Met Gala 2008
In 2008, socialite and fashion It-girl Lauren Santo Domingo wore a silver glittering Nina Ricci gown—created by then-designer Olivier Theyskens—end of story. But it wasn’t, because the dress caused a bit of a scandal when the house dressed SJP in the same exact dress months later for the premiere of the “Sex and the City” movie. The brand responded to the controversy by saying LSD isn’t technically a celebrity, so they didn’t recycle.
Andres Otero/WENN.com.
Lupito Nyong’o, Met Gala 2014
Fresh off her fame-making red-caped-dress moment, Lupita Nyong’o made a dramatic grand entrance at the 2014 gala in flapper-inspired Prada.
Getty Images.
Zoë Kravitz and MIA, Met Gala 2010
The cool crowd—also known as MIA and Zoë Kravitz—arrived on the arm of Alexander Wang at 2010’s “American Women”-themed gala.
WENN.
Florence Welch, Met Gala 2012
Florence Welch brought it to the 2012 gala honoring Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli, although she opted to wear a stunning multitiered McQueen dress. She showed up on several “worst-dressed” lists, proving again that the masses just don’t get it.
Toby/WENN.com.
Anja Rubik, Met Gala 2013
Supermodel Anja Rubik rolled up to the 2013 punk-themed gala in a mini red leather Anthony Vaccarello number—and it promptly went down in the annals as one of the coolest, most memorable looks ever.
WENN.com.
Karen Elson, Met Gala 2015
In 2015, supermodel-turned-rocker Karen Elson debuted a jaw-dropping Dolce & Gabbana look on the red carpet. Whether it played into the night’s theme—”China: Through the Looking Glass”—is debatable, but the glamour is not.
Andres Otero/WENN.com.
Anne Hathaway, Met Gala 2013
Anne Hathaway shed her goody-goody image at the 2013 punk-themed gala, replacing her long brown hair with a cropped platinum cut and debuting an on-theme Valentino gown.
Lia Toby/WENN.com.
Miley Cyrus, Met Gala 2013
A logical step in Miley Cyrus’s 2013 emancipation from Hannah Montana? Attending the punk-themed Met Gala on Marc Jacobs’s arm in a  totally sheer dress and with blonde spiky hair.
Evan Agostini/Getty Images.
Diane Kruger, Met Gala 2004
A lot of the looks at 2004’s “Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century” gala look wildly outdated now, but Diane Kruger—in Nicolas Ghesquiere—still looks chic and sexy.
Lia Toby/WENN.com.
Nicole Richie, Met Gala 2013
Nicole Richie stunned due to the simple fact that she made both a Topshop gown and silver hair look ridiculously chic in 2013.
WENN.com.
Kim Kardashian, Met Gala 2015
In 2015, Kim Kardashian caught major flak for wearing a dress nearly identical to the one Beyoncé wore in 2012. Granted, they’re by different designers and were different colors—Beyoncé’s black and purple gown was Givenchy, while Kim’s white dress was part of Peter Dundas’s first collection since returning to Roberto Cavalli, but the similarities were shocking, down to the sheer nakedness, the curve-hugging fit, and—of course—the feathered train that Bey worked like a pro on the Met’s red stairs when she made her dramatic entrance three years ago.
(And let it be known, Kim—who was on the event’s host committee that year—also showed up toward the end of the carpet, just like Ms. Knowles did.)
WENN.com.
Rihanna, Met Gala 2015
Perhaps the most memorable gala gown—and the most memorable example of a star sticking to the theme—was at 2015’s “China: Through the Looking Glass”: Rihanna showed up in an imperial-yellow fur-trimmed caped number with a multifoot-long train created by Chinese couturier Guo Pei. “I was researching Chinese couture on the Internet, and I found it,” she told Vanity Fair.
Getty Images.
Ashley Olsen, Met Gala 2011
Ashley Olsen didn’t wear McQueen to the 2011 gala, whose theme was in his honor, but looked absolutely perfect in a vintage Dior with puffy sleeves.
WENN.com.
Beyoncé, Met Gala 2015
Beyoncé turned heads in revealing Givenchy Couture at 2015’s gala, though some critics slammed the look for being too shameless in its approach to grab headlines. In the year of the “naked dress” on the gala’s carpet—J.Lo and—predictably—Kim K. also showed up in similar styles—we kind of hoped Beyoncé would have risen above the fray and had fun with her look, much like Rihanna did that year.
WENN.
Gisele Bündchen, Met Gala 2011
Part of one of the best-dressed couples of all time, supermodel Gisele Bündchen made jaws drop in 2011 with her dramatic red Alexander McQueen.
Getty Images.
Bianca Brandolini D’Adda, Met Gala 2012
Italian It-girl Bianca Brandolini D’Adda stunned in a serious gold Dolce & Gabbana ensemble in 2012.
Rose Hartman/Archive Photos/Getty Images.
Elizabeth Hurley, Met Gala 1995
Quintessential ’90s couple Elizabeth Hurley—in her signature curve-hugging gown style—and Hugh Grant at 1995’s gala.
Evan Agostini/Getty Images.
Amber Valletta, Met Gala 2004
It’s hard not to applaud Amber Valletta for fully embracing the 2004 “Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century” gala theme.
WENN.
Diane Kruger, Met Gala 2011
In 2011, Diane Kruger was the picture of modernity—instead of an OTT gown, she opted for a sleek black slit-skirt and embellished top by Jason Wu.
Billy Farrell/BFAnyc/Sipa Press.
Rihanna, Met Gala 2011
Been there, done that: Rihanna was doing the naked-dress thing long before Kim, Bey, and J.Lo. Here she is in Stella McCartney in 2011.
Getty Images.
Karolina Kurkova, Met Gala 2012
Karolina Kurkova brought some serious Studio 54 vibes in 2012 with her gold beaded Rachel Zoe number.
Getty Images.
Kirsten Dunst, Met Gala 2012
Kirsten Dunst might have worn prim Rodarte to 2012’s gala, but the look did its part to play into the Prada and Schiappareli theme.
Getty Images.
Alexa Chung, Met Gala 2013
It-girl and style-setter Alexa Chung took the “real fashion” route in a buttoned-up Marc Jacobs look in 2013.

Nina Dobrev, Met Gala 2012
Actress Nina Dobrev looked glamorous in a serious Donna Karan Atelier gown in 2012.

Guide To Working With Business Consultants In this fashion a means of mutual affect develops, with pure shifts in agenda and focus as the project continues. Another approach is to view the process as a sequence of phases—entry, contracting, diagnosis, knowledge collection, suggestions, implementation, and so on. However, these phases are normally less discrete than most consultants admit. This is a flat fee that’s established as a mirrored image of your experience, and clients pay only for the time you spend on their accounts. It’s important to trace your hours utilizing this method, and purchasers will doubtless have questions if the duty takes you for a lot longer than initially promised. Most crucially, they'll do all of this independently with a SaaS dashboard, without waiting for a group of analysts from Bain to deliver the outcomes. A new CPG model, for example, attempting to determine tips on how to worth its products has a reasonably routinized drawback on its hands. That’s not a problem that necessitates a McKinsey-level of involvement — and the corporate can most likely get similar results by working with a pricing professional sourced by way of a network like BTG. When Welch decided main layoffs had been strategically important, it was a tough capsule for many of GE’s defenders to swallow. And yet, that capacity to execute is what modified GE from “fine” into probably the most useful firm in America for six of the 9 years between 1996 and 2005. Today, the kind of data that once existed as carefully guarded trade secrets and techniques of the large administration consultancies has become virtually commodified by the web. One of those consultants, Olivier Roux, was “on loan” as a controller, monetary director, and member of the board. From the Sixties through much of the 21st century up to now, nonetheless, the technique aspect has been the dominant force inside most management consultancies. It’s not troublesome to think about a need for technology consulting amid some of the biggest bank card and personal data thefts in history. After know-how, the subsequent fastest-growing sector of consulting was danger and regulatory consulting. It’s not exhausting to know that both, given the influence of Brexit and GDPR on corporate planning. With greater than 6,700 workers positioned in offices in every corner of the globe, we're the firm our purchasers name on when they are dealing with their best challenges and alternatives. Additionally, many accounting software allows third-party application integrations. In a service-based business, a time tracking utility could integrate with the accounting software program to add labor to a consumer invoice. The first plan is $20 per month plus $6 per employee or contractor. The Distinction Between A Money Circulate Forecast And A Money Circulate Assertion Usually, a company with cash flow difficulties needs to pay for things on credit or delay payments as much as potential till they have the funds for flowing in. Once you’re within the behavior of creating cash move projections, it turns into easier to improve their accuracy over time. In sensible phrases, a cash flow projection chart contains 12 months laid out throughout the top of a graph, and a column on the left-hand aspect with a listing of each payables and receivables. When looking for a cash circulate forecasting device on your firm, you will need to consider the nature of your small business, its distinctive cash flow cycle, expenses, and revenue. For small businesses, nonetheless, these formulation are used to make sensible investment choices. It allows them to have higher intel on how and where their financial strikes need to be adjusted. While you do have control over if you pay your vendors, you don’t know when or if you'll be getting payments in your invoices. On the gross sales facet of issues, your small business could make a sale to a customer and send out an bill, but not get paid immediately. That sale provides to the income in your profit and loss statement but doesn’t present up in your checking account until the customer pays you. Cash flow forecast might be the most important single piece of a business plan. All the strategy, tactics, and ongoing enterprise activities mean nothing if there isn’t sufficient money to pay the payments. Audit, Evaluation And Compilation They might also receive, document and deal with cash and checks from purchasers. Bookkeepers audit financial information to ensure the books are balanced with no errors. They create stories based on the company’s financial transactions for executives and others in the firm to use. They may also process payroll and obtain invoices from exterior vendors. For each public and private accounting, a bachelor’s degree in accounting is the principle requirement. A CPA license is required to follow public accounting. And like the traditional brick and mortar strategy, having a home-based or digital business brings each alternatives and challenges which would possibly be distinctive to that strategy. When considering a home-based enterprise, it’s essential to consider the distinctive challenges and opportunities concerned. An accounting agency can do nearly everything a CPA firm can do with one exception – audits and assurance providers. So, if that is part of your goals or your target market, then it’s in all probability clever to consider the steps needed to turn into a CPA. “It reinvigorated how I approach shoppers, to place in place a structure, a thought pattern that will always be at the forefront of my mind, to have the ability to think, to sit down and listen and ask open-ended questions,” she says. Some of those who’ve been via the Accelerator program say it made them realise how flawed their initial strategy was to business advice. Two cohorts, with representatives of 42 firms, have thus far completed this system, says Sunny Sirabas, General Manager Innovation at Chartered Accountants ANZ. And for the primary time in history, candidates get to dictate sure terms of their employment, among which is having a flexible and remote work setting. The accounting trade sees more investments in blockchain-based tasks. These useful works are the product of considerable time, effort and sources, which you acknowledge by accepting the following phrases of use. Performing the shopper evaluation is a key step in beginning a CAS engagement with a shopper. Balance Sheet Vs Earnings Assertion The assertion of retained earnings is prepared second to discover out the ending retained earnings balance for the interval. The assertion of retained earnings is prepared before the steadiness sheet as a result of the ending retained earnings quantity is a required element of the steadiness sheet. The following is the Statement of Retained Earnings for Printing Plus. The goal with earnings management is to influence views in regards to the funds of the firm. Aggressive earnings administration is a type of fraud and differs from reporting error. For instance, if a manager earns his or her bonus based on revenue ranges at the end of December, there could be an incentive to try to represent extra revenues in December in order to increase the dimensions of the bonus. In other phrases, the corporate is taking up debt at twice the speed that its house owners are investing in the firm. To calculate EPS, you are taking the whole web revenue and divide it by the variety of outstanding shares of the company. A capital expenditure, or non operating expense, is the cost of growing or providing non-consumable elements for the product or system. The costs of these items not yet sold are deferred as prices of inventory until the stock is sold or written down in worth. There are many various kinds of accounting reports that are used to replicate numerous aspects of a company’s financial standing. However, there are four or 5 core types of accounting stories that are used by most small companies. All of those can be found from most small business accounting software program packages. While your organization strives to supply the most effective care for residents, it additionally faces fixed strain to take care of and grow revenues. An income statement, also referred to as a revenue and loss assertion (P&L), summarizes small enterprise bills and income in a specified interval. You’ll additionally observe small enterprise bills, losses, profits, and income. Enterprise Accounting You may also create a free or heavily sponsored lecture or seminar and use the chance to advertise your companies to them. To command super respect while talking with a possible customer, you should become a certified public accountant or a certified management accountant. Genuinely, before anyone takes you critically or hands over their books to you, they'll need to know your credentials. There are many alternative accounting business concepts you could discover. Instead, it operates as a market that brings together companies with extremely vetted finance and accounting specialists to immediately work with you. S Corp – An S-Corporation refers back to the tax classification of the business however isn't a business entity. An S-Corp could be either a company or an LLC, which just have to elect to be an S-Corp for tax standing. In an S-Corp, income is passed by way of directly to shareholders, who pay taxes on their share of business earnings on their private tax returns. If you’re already a CPA and have a reliable pc, you can start your individual agency from residence for about $2,300. Steadiness Sheet Reconciliation The basic check and balance of ensuring the closing steadiness of one period equal the opening balance of another. It’s the muse for most inner controls which are essential for shielding the company’s belongings. Providing supporting calculations and documentation where required (e.g., if an account doesn’t steadiness by a wide margin, explain why). Companies that shut inside a brief window often rely more heavily on estimates and accruals, which will not be exact. Validating the data through balance sheet evaluate and account reconciliations reduces your exposure to risk, fraud and malicious attempts to govern numbers. In distinction, the early levels of the monetary shut – the ‘first mile’ – which incorporates the capture of monetary data and manufacturing of the preliminary trial steadiness and consolidations, have largely been uncared for. And this is the case even though most of the issues that occur within the final mile are as a end result of first mile issues. Vena automates time-consuming monetary shut processes, e.g., information assortment, account reconciliation and inter-company transactions. A crucial part of the month-end shut contains account reconciliation—ensuring the actuals are correct, reliable and well timed. Individuals additionally could use account reconciliation to verify the accuracy of their checking and bank card accounts. In double-entry accounting, each transaction is posted as each a debit and a credit score. She is an skilled in private finance and taxes, and earned her Master of Science in Accounting at University of Central Florida. Account reconcilement is the method of confirming that two separate records of transactions in an account are equal. A financial institution reconciliation assertion summarizes banking exercise, permitting people and firms to check their data to the bank’s records. The documentation evaluation course of compares the quantity of each transaction with the amount shown as incoming or outgoing within the corresponding account. And but the monetary close has long been a source of frustration and pain for finance departments, with probably important ramifications for the organization as a whole. LUVBOT LEICA Shot in 4K with Sony F65 and Leica Summilux-C lenses from Philippe Ros www.philipperos.com on Vimeo.
SHE FALLS FOR HER BUT SHE’S AN ANDROID. CLASSIC FUTURE Directed by Ben Elia Philippe Ros, cinematohgrapher A.F.C., explored the 4K potential with Olivier Garcia, engineer (Gamma designer, calibration manager), Laurent Desbrueres, senior colourist and François Dupuy, technical manager at Digimage Cinema post house. We chose a classic way to tell the story of this science-fiction film: two women of different ages with scenes that embody beauty shots as well as drama shots. Also inclining to show "skin tone control" ranging from low lights to bright lights, making this a huge task for Luna Elisa Federowicz, the make-up artist. How to create and distinguish two strong characters (a human and an android) through make-up, lighting and colour correction?
Produced by Martin Kreitl a Munchen-Calabrian brother, LUVBOT was shot in Munchen, Germany, in the first class FGV Schmidle Studio lent to us by Markus and Oliver Schmidle. Special Thanks to Gerhard Baier From Leica and the Munchen Dream Team leaded by Production manager: Benedikt Wiedenmann and First assistant Thomas Fischer. Ainara Porron and Peter Sykes from Sony Europe joined former contributors Digimage Cinema and HD Systems.
BEAUTY CONTROL
Our goal was to make the android believable.I knew that grading is part of his imaging work. During this phase, Laurent Desbrueres emphasised on light directions, overexposure and low light as well as on make-up choices. It worked so well that we had to give this research phase a name: The "Aesthetic Quality Control" or "Beauty Control". Con calma e un po’ a freddo. L'attentato a Barcellona pochi giorni fa.

E colpire. Barcellona docet. (fonte)

Will disadvantaged regions in the UK benefit from the £1.6 Billion 'Stronger Towns Fund' negotiation between May and Labour MPs?
Is Theresa May’s Brexit deal bargaining chip just putting a plaster on an axe-wound?
Just before the second vote of her Brexit deal, Prime Minister Theresa May continues to push for a deal before the UK is leave the EU on the 29thof March. May has faced strong opposition and difficulties in the commons in her attempts to secure a deal and earlier last week it was reported that May put forward negotiations of a £1.6 billion ‘Stronger Towns Fund’ deal between Labour MPs in order to gain their vote for her second Brexit deal in the commons.
Towns and areas in the UK that have been suffering from the impacts of 10 years of austerity are reported to be getting funding of £1.6billion, as part of a negotiation between Prime Minister May and Labour MPs to get parliamentary support for a Brexit deal. The new initiative to tackle the regional deprivation divide in the UK by the Conservative government, headed by PM May has been criticised as barrel-rolling and political bribery.
The shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, said the fund “smacks of desperation from a government reduced to bribing MPs to vote for their damaging flagship Brexit legislation”.
However, the attempts to support regions which have on average less funding and opportunities than the capital, are comparatively a drop in the ocean to the regional funding the UK was set to receive in the next 10-15 years, and fails to acknowledge the history of regional investment the EU has spent in the UK. This large investment comes from an effort to reduce the impact of austerity further in disproportionately underprivileged areas in the UK, which are likely to continue to face cuts in the now possible event of a no-deal Brexit, which will be made worse by the removal of funding from the EU regional funding policy.
An example of where the longstanding and vast differences in regional wealth have not been solved by UK government policy is where, despite suggestions by the EU is from the “2014 -2020 round of funding, the UK government chose to allocate Merseyside €202m(£167.835m) of funding, when the European Commission suggested the area should receive around €350m (£290.147m).”
In an interview with Olivier Sykes from the University of Liverpool, who only in December 2018 wrote on a paper titled The Great British Recession, in which he states ‘EU regional investment saved UK neglected regions’, Sykes revealed that regional funding promised by May is a fraction of the funding the UK’s unequal regions receive from the EU, and her £1.6 billion deal is like “putting a plaster on an axe-wound” for some of these deprived areas in the UK.

The regions which are set to receive this funding would however be in line to receive far more in EU regional funding from 2021 – 2027 than from this ‘Stronger Towns Initiative’, because some regions have been struggling so much over the last 10 years, that the UK would actually see an increase in its allocation of funding of around 22% for the 2021-2027 period getting around €13bn.
Liverpool happens to one of the areas most affected by austerity, in 2015 Liverpool City Region was ranked the most deprived out of nearly 40 Local Enterprise Partnerships, of the Indices of Deprivation, which could be one of the many reason why in a graph published by the PM’s press office, Liverpool (as part of the North West region) is set to receive £281 million from the Stronger Towns Fund, individually the most out of all the UK regions.
The hypocrisy of the negotiation between May and Labour MPs undermines the history of inequality of spending between regions in the UK. The amount May plans to spend in these areas is short-sighted in regards to the larger EU funding these areas could receive in the case of no Brexit.
Olivier Sykes emphasises that why “The symbolic and political value of EU structural funds to some places, and the opportunities they opened-up for empowerment of local decision-makers and communities, should also not be underestimated.” In the interview with Olivier, factors such as higher budgets can mean long-term infrastructure and bigger goals for areas that need radical economic changes in order to provide regional equal opportunities.
With the second vote on a Brexit deal happening later today (12th March), we can only wait and anticipate whether or not the promise of funding has swayed certain Labour MPs.
Tune into the UK Politics Hour tomorrow from live 10am on LSradio to get the latest on the Brexit vote.

21 of the best jokes from the Clinton, Bush, and Obama White House Correspondents dinners.
The White House Correspondents' Association dinner is an opportunity for the politically powerful to showcase their ability to take a joke. Naturally, Donald Trump won't go near it.
For the second straight year, Trump won't be in attendance for the dinner. Not exactly known for his ability to poke fun at himself or smile along, it makes sense that he wouldn't want to be there for an evening that both undercuts and exaggerates the press's supposedly adversarial relationship with our nation's leaders.
While the event itself dates back more than 100 years, it wasn't until 1993 that C-SPAN began airing the whole thing live. Since then, comedians, such as Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Wanda Sykes, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers, have taken the stage to jab at the politicians and the press — all in good fun.
Let's look back at some of the funniest and most daring jokes from past White House Correspondents' Association dinners, made by celebs and politicos alike.
Larry Wilmore in 2016 took jabs at the obscurity of C-SPAN and a failed promise.
"It is good to be on C-SPAN. Glad I’m not on your rival network, 'No input, HDMI1.'"
"Oh, I just got a note from the president saying that if you want another drink, you should order it now because the bar will be closing down. Of course, he said the same thing about Guantanamo, so you have at least another eight years."

During his final dinner in 2016, President Obama starred in a video contemplating life after the White House.

In 1995, Conan O'Brien implored loyal C-SPAN viewers to please find something else to do on a Saturday night.
"I have an announcement for those of you watching this event live on C-SPAN. For God's sake, it's Saturday night! Go outside! ... There are things you can do!"

The show must go on, as they say.
Last year's host was Hasan Minhaj, who scorched the president with a comparison to King Joffrey from "Game of Thrones." This year, the event will be hosted by Michelle Wolf. It's sure to be as awkward as ever — and it's still pretty strange to see the press rubbing elbows with the same politicians their jobs require them to criticize. But with the world as dark as it is right now, maybe we do need to just find a way to laugh.

Euro 2020 Team Previews: Group D
Tumblr media
England:
In their first Euros outing in 1968, England finished third, of four teams. They’re still waiting to improve on that. Only Belgium and the old Yugoslavia could claim to have performed better at European Championships without winning one. England have been international football’s big underachievers since 1966, from home-soil heroes to the failed Golden Generation. The Three Lions have won one knockout game in the history of this competition. On penalties. As hosts. I'm not even kidding, look it up. Five years ago, they crashed out to Iceland; as the song goes, we’d seen it all before. What followed, though, was new: it led to a scorched earth rejuvenation of English football, led by some of the greatest minds in the game. Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa all arrived, followed by a cast of club legends making early forays into management. Together, they’ve helped to reshape the country’s tactical make-up into something more modern. An Icelandic volcano turned English football to ash, but from the rubble, something new and exciting has risen from it. There’s hope for the class of 2021. The Three Lions’ current pride isn’t an empty collection of big names – there are still titans of elite European sides, but vitally, there’s a balance that seems to have evaded the national team for 55 years. England finally have defensive midfielders and left-footers. A good grouping of the current XI are captains of their clubs. Importantly, the country’s youth-level champions of recent years are coming of age, giving Gareth Southgate genuine selection migraines. For many, England’s talent reserves are the envy of Europe as many sitting on the bench would have started for other nations competing in Euro 2020. Since 2018, the pragmatism of Southgate’s World Cup semi-finalists has come to the fore: they are prepared to win ugly, even if a squad packed with attacking prowess suggests otherwise. If we're being honest, the 12-month postponement of Euro 2020 may have even worked in England’s favor, too, as so many young Lions have received a year’s extra education before the big tournament. Mason Mount and Phil Foden have developed into legitimate superstars, Reece James looks like one of the best fullbacks in football and this new "Golden Generation" may actually be better than the last. Could the stars align? We haven’t seen a crop quite like this for some time, and while England doesn’t quite expect to win it all, there’s plenty of serious promise.
Euro 2020 may be a bridge too far for Southgate’s squad, but their journey over the last five years shows they’re on the right track. If they can shake off the nation’s tag as perennial underachievers in football, then maybe, just maybe, this fucking thing is "coming home".
Croatia:
In the past three years, Croatia seen a generational shift occur within their national team – never an easy task for a country with so small a talent pool. The situation was hardly helped by Ivan Rakitic’s sudden international retirement last September; the midfielder following forward Mario Mandzukic and goalkeeper Danijel Subasic in saying goodbye to the national team in the aftermath of the sepia-tinged summer of 2018. Yet, still led by Luka Modric’s effortless brilliance, the perennial dark horses remain a strong outfit, albeit a little green around the edges. Some squad members have already shown great maturity in stepping up, particularly 26-year old Dinamo Zagreb keeper Dominik Livakovic, whom has between fantastic between the sticks, and 23-year-old former Everton midfielder Nikola Vlasic. Dinamo’s Mislav Orsic is still floating on air after his stunning hat-trick knocked Tottenham out of the Europa League. Most encouragingly? Manager Zlatko Dalic can also rely upon one player the wider European public has yet to meet: striker Bruno Petkovic. Similar to Olivier Giroud in many ways, the hulking Dinamo centre-forward offers Croatia an important tactical variant as a hulking in-the-box presence amidst a sea of pint-sized technicians. Yet more vital is that Modric, the quintessential captain, who is still playing at the highest level after yet another fine Real Madrid season, isn’t tired of wearing the famed checkered shirt. They'll go as far as his mastery, wizardy, incredible ability and undying passion for his national team will take them. This team is green, but by no means does that mean they're incapable of making a semi-finals appearance. Croatia’s group is extremely demanding because it contains two hosts (England and Scotland) and the reawakened Czech Republic, whose players increasingly recall previous generations. That being said, reaching the knockout stages should not be an issue. The fact that reaching the knockout stage is now the minimum expectation from the Croatian public is proof of just how far this team has come. The big names may lack their forebears’ name recognition, but the talent remains for them to go far.
Scotland:
Don’t let anyone tell you that international football is irrelevant and that representing your country doesn't matter anymore in the age of mega-contracts, "Super Leagues", "Champions Leagues" and endorsement deals. If they persist, point them in the direction of Ryan Christie’s post-match interview with Sky Sports on the night that Scotland finally ended their agonizing 23-year wait to appear at a major international tournament. For about two minutes, the Celtic star did his best to juggle obvious exhaustion, joy and sheer relief while the tears flowed down in his face in an abject display of patriotism that would make even the biggest skeptic struggle to watch without wondering who was cutting onions or who opened the window and let all this pollen into the room. This had been a long time coming. The night of their play-off in Serbia was about as ‘Scotland’ as it gets. Even though Steve Clarke’s side put in a confident, and composed performance against visibly shaken opposition; given the lead through a Christie goal that looked to be enough for victory, Serbian star and all-together disappointment Luka Jovic delivered a sucker-punch equalizer in stoppage time. Long-suffering Scotland supporters at home feared the worst. And, as it were, the Serbians pushed Scotland to the brink in extra time. But Scotland stood firm, then David Marshall secured legendary status among the Tartan Army with a superb save from Aleksandar Mitrovic's effort to settle the penalty shootout at 5-4. Back in Scotland, there was utter pandemonium. Football can’t do much to make up for a year of loss and sacrifice, but it has at least reaffirmed its status as the most important of the least important things. For one night, Christie & company gave their country the gift of a priceless distraction in a year when we needed it most. Scotland’s hard-fought win in Belgrade lengthened their unbeaten stretch under Clarke to nine games – their best run in 44 years. It hasn't been easy, however. Clarke and his management team have had to tweak their system along the way and injuries have forced some previously unheralded players to earn caps. Others have been forced out for resting on their old laurels (sorry Leigh Griffiths), while others have been handed opportunities based on merit and ability (hello, Lyndon Sykes). For all that qualification represented to Clarke, though, he’s too proud for his side to just make up the numbers this summer. They probably won't make it to the next round. They were handed a rough draw this time around and the Czech Republic is a tough out. That said, Scotland is going to fight until they can't anymore. It's what they know.
Czech Republic:
Back in England for another major tournament a quarter of a century after their incredible run to the Euro 96 Final, the Czechs travel to the UK with a buoyant mood and a settled squad. They’re unencumbered by expectation, and bring a team of promising young players and hungry internationals from Europe’s top five leagues, so another underdog showing is the hope for the nation's fans and for manager Jaroslav Silhavy.
Tomas Soucek – he of the granite forehead, man-mountain shoulders and elbows that can be thrown like boulders – and full-back Vladimir Coufal already delivered solid performances for Slavia Prague, but not even the most ardent Czech fan would have expected the level both have reached in West Ham’s excellent 2020-21 Premier League campaign, thus leading both players to capture the imagination and incite the excitement of a country who is beginning to believe this team may have what it takes Meanwhile, the Czechs’ best forward, Patrik Schick – on loan at RB Leipzig last year – has finally sorted out his future by leaving Roma for Bayer Leverkusen. The 25-year-old looks settled at his new club, and by mid-April he had scored 13 goals in 29 appearances for the German outfit. He'll be expected to lead the line, and from all appearances, looks prepared to do so, finally living up to the potential and expectations bestowed upon him at a young age. That being said, no Czech side has ever been about individuals, not even in Pavel Nedved’s era: even in a loaded team, with Karel Poborsky and Vladimir Smicer, the Czechs were more than a one-man show and played united, hard-nosed football, stoked more in pragmatism and a cohesive identity than individual moments of brilliance. Team spirit, tactical preparation, defensive organization and a well-balanced squad tend to trump all when it comes to the Czech squad. Boosted psychologically by their promotion to Nations League A, Silhavy’s troops also know what to expect in this group: they’d already beaten England in qualifying when they pipped Scotland to top spot in their Nations League division. Their football is unlikely to be beautiful, but they will be tough to beat, and with their would-be stars in top-form coming into the tournament, do not be surprised to see the Czech Republic make the knockouts as one of the best Third-Place teams.
