Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was carjacked at gunpoint Monday outside his Washington, DC, apartment building, according to his office. 

The 68-year-old south Texas lawmaker was unharmed during the incident in DC’s trendy Navy Yard neighborhood at approximately 9:32 p.m., according to DC’s Metropolitan Police Department. 

“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, three armed assailants approached the congressman and stole his vehicle,” Cuellar’s chief of staff Jacob Hochberg told The Post.

“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the congressman’s vehicle.”

Cuellar was reportedly outside “a dorm building in which dozens” of House members live, according to Axios reporter Andrew Solender, who cited a group chat used by the lawmakers who occupy the building. 

Three men reportedly held guns to Cuellar’s head as they took his phone and vehicle, which was parked on the street, according to the group chat. 

An MPD crime alert on the incident says police are on the lookout for “three black males wearing all black clothing” who made off with the congressman’s white Honda with Texas tags. 

The alert warns the public to “not take action” but instead call 911 if the vehicle or suspects are spotted.

Capitol Police told The Post that the armed carjacking is being investigated by DC police and USCP investigators.  

“Injuries were not reported. Detectives are working to track down the suspects,” a spokesperson for USCP said.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes in the district this year that have affected members of Congress or their staffs. 

In February, Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) was assaulted in the elevator of her northeast DC apartment building by a homeless man with a long rap sheet. She suffered bruises as a result of the attack and got away by tossing her hot morning coffee at the assailant. 

The following month, a staffer for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)  was brutally attacked in broad daylight by a knife-wielding assailant in DC, on the same street where Craig was assaulted. 

The staffer, 26-year-old Phillip Todd, suffered serious injuries in the attack, including multiple stab wounds to the head and chest.

In June, a staffer for Rep. Brad Finstad (R-Minn.) was attacked at gunpoint near Nationals Park in Washington, DC, just hours after the conclusion of the annual Congressional Baseball Game. 

That staffer suffered minor injuries in the attack, which occurred in the same neighborhood where Cuellar was carjacked. 

To date, 750 carjackings have been reported in DC this year alone, with 75% involving a firearm. 

That is a 115% increase in the number of carjackings from this time last year, according to DC police crime statistics.

Abel Ferrara's version of Jack Finney's novel The Body Snatchers is nothing if not economical. The economy extends to the title: Don Siegel's 1956 version and Philip Kaufman's 1978 one were called Invasion of the Body Snatchers; Ferrara even drops the definite article. The story, too, has been pared down. Ferrara's version sets the story on a military base in Alabama instead of the urban California of the previous films. It also shifts the focus to a teenage girl, Marti Malone (Gabrielle Anwar), who comes with her family to the base when her father (Terry Kinney) is sent there by the EPA to investigate chemical pollution. The dynamic of a rebellious adolescent in a military culture is perfect for the conflict between individualism and conformity, the theme that unites all of the versions of Finney's story. In addition to her father, Marti's dysfunctional family consists of her stepmother, Carol (Meg Tilly), whom she dislikes, and her young half-brother, Andy (Reilly Muphy), who annoys her. Andy is the first to sense that something is seriously wrong in their new home when, during an art class at day care, all the other kids produce identical finger paintings. As they hold up their paintings, the teacher murmurs approvingly at each one until she comes to a halt at Andy's, which is unique. She clearly disapproves. One by one, the fact that people are being somehow replaced by identical but emotionless beings becomes clear. Ferrara is not particularly interested in the mechanics of invasion and transformation that took up more narrative space in the previous films. We get some nicely disgusting body horror scenes, but the response of Marti to the alien takeover is what drives the plot as she teams up with a handsome young helicopter pilot named Tim (Billy Wirth) to fight off the invaders. Tim's stoic military manner keeps us unsure whether he's not already one of the pod people, an ambiguity that persists until the end of the movie. Body Snatchers is a good rethinking of material whose previous versions are now considered classics. The source material was mined again for a fourth version, The invasion (Oliver Hirschbiegel, 2007), which starred Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig but bombed with the critics.

I got an ask recently inquiring about any suggestions I have on learning to write/improving your writing. Since then I've been trying to come up with a helpful, coherent, and relatively concise answer, but that's taking a long time.

So, for now I'd say my biggest piece of advice is the cliché: if you want to become a better writer, read (or watch/listen to/etc.) everything you can. Everything. Engage with media from as many different creators as possible and from as many different backgrounds/experiences/cultures as possible. Seek out things you don't know a lot about. Venture into new territory and always try to expand your horizons. This includes engaging with media you would never drift towards naturally, even towards things you don't expect to enjoy (which isn't to say read things that will disturb you or be dangerous for your mental health, more that you should try reading things you know you won't love or that fall way outside your genre comfort zone). You can learn a lot about writing from things you don't like or aren't blown away by. I imagine it like XP farming in a video game. Even if some of what you're doing/reading isn't particularly exciting or interesting, it'll level up your writing skill all the same. You may come away with a better understanding of what you don't like and don't want to do. You may come away with some new idea you wouldn't have thought to include in your normal body of work. You may discover a love for something you never expected. Who knows?

This advice applies to more than books—watch shows or movies, play games, listen to podcasts or free YouTube lectures/video essays, whatever you want. Just try to reflect critically on what you encounter (for example, "how can I incorporate (or avoid) ___ in my own writing?").

Michael Peña (Chicago, 13 de enero de 1976) es un actor de cine y televisión estadounidense de ascendencia mexicana.

Ha participado en varias películas tales como "Million dollar baby" y "World Trade Center" (dirigida por Oliver Stone), así como series de televisión, como la 4.ª temporada de "The Shield". Aparece en el filme "El tirador" junto con Mark Wahlberg. Realizó otro gran papel en la película "Crash". Actualmente reside en Los Ángeles.

Peña nació en Chicago, Illinois en el seno de una familia modesta, su padre trabajaba en una fábrica y su madre era trabajadora social. Ambos eran inmigrantes mexicanos. Orlando Bloom nació en Canterbury, Kent, el 13 de enero de 1977. Podría decirse que es actor gracias a su madre: fue ella quien les inculcó a él y a su hermana, Samantha, la pasión por las artes cuando eran pequeños. Animado por ella, Orlando empezó recitando poesía en festivales de su localidad y poco después, estando aún en el colegio, decidió que quería dedicarse a la interpretación.

A los diez años se trasladó a Londres y se unió al National Isa Youth Theatre, donde actuó durante dos temporadas. Más tarde consiguió una beca para estudiar en la British American Drama Academy. Can't find song/cd from later childhood 2000s(?) There was a song, called I've got you covered (NOT the one by Phillips Craig and Dean). I would listen to it continuously. Part of the song was "I've got you covered" "I'll stand in the gap when you don't feel like standing"There is one I found, by Jonathan Martin. It's the correct song and lyrics. But not the singer/ group I'm looking for. I've tried everything to find it. And it's been on my mind for years...Help? Payne Of Windsor Is Arrested ---- Governor Nabs Man as He Tries to Climb Wall and Fires Upon Waiting Car ---- From Chatham Bureau of The Windsor Star CHATHAM, Ont., Oct. 28. - What is believed to have been an attempt to break into the Kent County jail here and release one or more prisoners from the cells was broken up about 11:15 last night by Phillip Daigneau, governor of the jail, who caught Danny James Payne, of Windsor, allegedly climbing over the jail wall, and fired several shots at a waiting car which then sped away in the darkness toward Windsor.

GIVEN REMAND Payne was remanded without plea until next Wednesday by Magistrate Ivan B. Craig in Chatham police court this morning on a charge that he "did assist Allen Baldwin and Franklin Smith in an attempted escape from lawful custody in Kent county jail."

Baldwin is under sentence of four years on a charge of receiving stolen tires and along with Smith is awaiting trial for the $34,000 armed robbery of the Royal Bank at Wheatley. Ont., on September 10. They were committed for trial recently along with Leo Dubroy, Peter Delvin and Vernard Gates who have been released on bail.

Jail Governor Daigneau stated that he fired several shots at the fleeing car and believes he hit it at least once. He described the car as a light green 1940 or 1941 Ford coach or sedan and said the first part of the licence read 6-J.

HIGHWAYS WATCHED Ontario provincial police all through Kent and Essex counties were immediately warned and the highways between Chatham and Windsor fully patrolled.

The charge against Payne, who gave his address as 920 Ouellette avenue, was laid by Crown Attorney A. Douglas Bell, K.C.

Indication that Kent jail officials had feared some attempt might be made to free Baldwin and Smith was seen in the report that extra guards had been put on.

Jail Governor Daigneau was outside the jail when he saw someone trying to scale the 25-foot stone wall with a rope. It is believed there were five men but the others fled in the car while Daigneau captured Payne. Some neighbors who heard the shooting believe that the men in the car returned the fire.

MR. DAIGNEAU'S STORY "We had been watching everything here very closely," Mr. Daigneau told The Star today. "Last night shortly after 11 when I came out of my house adjoining the jail to make my rounds, I noticed two parked cars. Recognizing one of them, I walked toward it but just as I did it pulled away.

"I yelled at the driver to stop but he didn't so I fired at the tires as it turned off Stanley avenue onto Prince street. I again fired at the tires as it sped along Prince. I didn't fire higher because I didn't know who was in the car.

"I then ran back and played my flashlight on the walls of the jail and told the night turnkey to advise the police that this particular car was in town.

SAW MAN ON WALL "I rushed back to the Seventh street side of the jail and when I put my light on the wall I saw a man huddled over the top of the wall, sort of bending over.

"I fired one shot close to him to frighten him and then told him to put his hands up and come down with his back toward me. I told him to drop and then turn and face me. I kept my light on him and my gun ready and then slowly backed toward Stanley avenue and shouted for help."

PAYNE SEARCHE DR. D. Scott, of the Bank of Commerce, N. H. Plomley, insurance agent and Major William Bexton of the Salvation Army, who live close to the jail responded and Mr. Plomley searched Payne for weapons.

Detective Jack Harrington and Constable William Craven of Chatham police arrived then, followed by Provincial Constables A. R. Peters and John Bain.

After Payne was taken in the police cruiser to the city police cells, Governor Daigneau and the police searched the jail yard but found no one else.

STRONG ROPE LADDER Mr. Daigneau said that preparations for the attempted jail break apparently had been well made because a strong rope ladder with a hook on the end of it was thrown to the top of the wall from the outside and then dropped from the top to the yard below.

He said Payne had a stick with him which apparently had been used to try and pass weapons through to prisoners. Payne did not get to a window, he said.Questioned by The Star, Mr. Daigneau would not say if any weapons had been found on Payne, in the jail yard or in the jail.

He said no shots had been fired at him from those in the fleeing car.

There had been no tip-off but jail officials have been especially vigilant in the past few weeks, it was reported.

Mr. Daigneau was high in his praise of city and provincial police for their prompt arrival on the scene.

World Masters Cross Country Championships preview part 3

There are now just five days until runners and fans converge upon Bathurst for the World Cross Country Championships. My previews have focussed on the Masters 6k races because the 2k relay teams largely remain a mystery to me. But a few enquiries have revealed some interesting pairings. In the 40+ division, it has been confirmed that Ben Bruce and April Lund (USA) will run as a team and they should clean up. Steve Dinneen and Anna Kasapis are the strongest Aussie pairing, followed by Nathan Crowley and Nicole Joseph. These four runners are all from Victoria and I'm not aware of any teams from other States that might challenge them.

In the 50+ category, Steve Moneghetti has thrown the cat among the pigeons by dropping down from his 60+ age group to team up with Krishna Stanton. A clever move from the master of Masters! But I fancy the chances of Victorian duo, John Meagher and Julie Norney, who have an age advantage over this all-star pair. In a remarkable coincidence, Krishna and Julie ran identical times in their most recent parkruns (18:56), so will Mona have the speed over 2k to beat his younger rival? I am going out on a limb and tipping an upset by the younger team. Ant Rickards and Bev Thomas (also Vic) are the likely third team on the podium. Krishna's presence should at least prevent a Victorian sweep of the medals.

Now we return to the 6k individual cross country and the top 60+ and 65+ prospects. There are only three overseas M60 entries and it's a shame that most of the best runners in this age group appear to have preferred to enter the World Indoor Track Championships in Poland next month. Nonetheless, the field remains of high quality. Mona, fresh from his 5000m world track record, is the hottest of red-hot favourites. In an ominous sign for his rivals, when asked recently about the upcoming race, Mona simply volunteered: "I like cross country", four words carrying a very clear message to his rivals, among whom will be Bruce Graham (ACT), the winner of numerous Masters track titles over many years, and Derek Froude, a two time Olympian for New Zealand but now representing the USA. Craig Downie (Tas) is another elite runner, with recent times of 10:08/17:47 for 3000m/parkrun to his name. Gary Mayor (Qld) ran 17:35 for 5000m last year and so is also a chance for a medal.

The W60 field is not nearly as strong and has no foreign runners, so is a de facto Australian Championships. Victoria Gunn (Tas), or Vicky to her friends, ran 21:06 and scored an age grading over 90% at the Launceston parkrun last year, which probably makes her (what else?) a gun runner. Robyn Basman (NSW) has a similar 5000m time from 2022. Anne Lord (Vic) is a four-time Australian World Cross Country representative. The other runners have little or no form on the board, so there could easily be a surprise win here from someone sneaking under my radar.

How good it would have been to see the two outstanding M65 runners in the world going head to head in Bathurst? But alas, it's not to be, as NSW's own Keith Bateman and Scotland's Alistair Walker are both skipping the event, unfortunately. This leaves Allan Long (formerly NT, now Vic) as the clear favourite. Ian Calder (NZ) and Peter Hutton (NSW) are experienced Masters competitors and should both be in the mix. In the W65 age group, Rosemary Roediger (NSW) has a strong claim with recent parkrun times just beyond 21 minutes and consistent 90%+ age gradings, but New Zealander Christine Adamson will be close by. Great Britain and Northern Ireland's Margaret Phillips boasts an impressive 441 parkruns to date, but she cannot match the speed of Rosemary or Christine. Helen Stanley (Vic) is another respected Masters competitor. Calder and Adamson will be a chance to win the 60+ 2k relay if they team up, although the younger pair of Downie and Gunn could conceivably take the gold medals back with them to Tasmania.

phillip cooke: born in manchester, aged 62. the oldest cooke sibling, phillip was a surprise to his parents in more ways than one. a quiet, focused child in the style of his father, phillip watched his parents struggle to provide from an early age. determined to do what he could to help, phillip became adept in theft, passing off extra money as earnings from odd jobs. he was first arrested at fourteen, with a string of arrests following until the age of twenty-one, where he began to hone his craft. often a headache for his parents, phillip was determined to ensure he would do what he could to give them the life they deserved. ( portrayed by; hugh grant )

dorothy cooke: born in tyne dock, aged 83.  from an early age, dorothy aspired to great things, dreaming of being an actress. she met arthur in her twenties, and her priorities changed when they had their first child. dorothy was a stay-at-home mother and housewife until her youngest child reached eighteen, at which point she trained and worked as a secretary to help provide for the family. ( portrayed by; catherine cookson )

benoit blanc: born in south carolina, usa, aged 54. last of the great gentleman sleuths, greatest detective in the world, among us failure, love of phillip cooke’s life. they met on and off throughout the years, in a game of cat and mouse.  ( portrayed by; daniel craig )

sarah cooke: born in manchester, aged 52. the middle cooke sibling, sarah was determined to make a name for herself. through college she worked briefly as a model before setting her sights on higher things. studying medicine in university - funded partially by phillip - sarah qualified as a nurse at twenty-seven, and specialised in oncology, working for the nhs.  ( portrayed by; caroline catz )

richard choi: born in melbourn, australia, aged 38. an anaesthesiologist, richard and sarah met at work, and have been seeing each other for almost seven years. neither has an interest in children, or marriage, but have lived together for five years, and have a dog called doogan who they love. ( portrayed by; chris pang )

david cooke: born in manchester, aged 50.  the youngest cooke sibling, david spent much of his early life keenly aware of the pressures on the rest of the family. at sixteen, david left school and apprenticed as a bricklayer. he stayed in the profession, becoming a contractor with time and training. ( portrayed by: chris addison )

bethany cooke, nee browne: born in liverpool, aged 53. a bank teller, bethany met david at a new branch opening they both happened to be attending - bethany to be a representative of the bank, david as an olive branch to the contract workers. they dated for a year before marrying, having their first child when they were twenty-eight and twenty-five respectively. they live in liverpool together.  ( portrayed by: natasha little ) 

jessica cooke: born in liverpool, aged 25 daughter of david and natasha, favourite family member of phillip, an aspiring fashion designer who phillip quietly funds. ( portrayed by: melissa suffield )
