I just realized that since Tulin looks up to both Revali and Link he'd be cheering for both of them if he saw them fight like they did in Age of Calamity

Revali :(
I played BOTW hundreds of hours just because of you. Every time I was done playing for the day I went back and saved at Rito Village, usually on Revali’s landing
When I was on your fandom I met many people and the art I made of you still is to this day my most popular art. And I still sell stickers of you on Redbubble very often.
I used your ability in the game as often as I could to hear your voice whenever it was ready again, I carried your bow with me always, and made sure of always having a diamond to make it again as soon as it broke.
I watched your cutscenes dozens of times, I enjoyed every second of your sections in the DLC, I cried at the cutscene when you get the picture of the Champions, I read your diary so much I almost memorized it.
I rushed you in Age of Calamity and play only with you.
I like Revali’s story even more now that I know he remains being the one hero of the Rito that made himself a Champion with hard work and training. He didn’t have any ties to anyone important, just a dream and the conviction to follow it.
Apart from being one of the most complex characters in BoTW. I think he would be sad knowing that nobody ever mentions him again, but happy to see what his town and his people are up to now. He mentioned in his diary that he wanted to learn so he could teach the new generations so I’m sure he’d be proud of Tulin. And at the end of the day he would accept being lost in time knowing that he helped his people when he could and now they’re fine.
I love this character a lot and when I noticed he wasn’t in ToTK, not even mentioned it made me sad.
But nothing made me sadder than arriving to the town and reading the sign that still says “Revali’s landing”.
He never felt more dead than now. His absence now really feels like that of a person who isn’t around anymore. Despite being dead for 100 years in BOTW.
Bit it doesn’t matter that he’s not mentioned in the game now. I came to Tumblr to see if people felt like me and I found many who do and that makes me happy :) people likes him and remembers him as a character in the fandom. That is better than anything else
(This sounds really serious, I’m sorry I just love this character so much. I engage with characters emotionally in a weird way jshshsh)
In loving memory of Revali, the Champion of the Rito

Future's Present
I wrote this drabble because I love the champions and their descendants so much, especially Revali and Tulin. I HAD to write something for them, and here it is :) Please enjoy!
Please note that there are totk spoilers for all four of the Regional Phenomena main quest parts.
Despite the insistence of those at Lookout Landing, Link does not decide to travel up north to the freezing Hebra region first. He instead travels east to Kakariko Village, intent on visiting an old friend, reminiscing on a journey long past.
Zora's Domain was naturally the closest from there. The muck had plagued them and their swimming abilities, so when Link arrived to help, he was tasked with seeking out the Zora Prince.
He hadn't been to Zora's Domain in some time. There was really no way to tell how long it had been between when he and Zelda explored the castle, to when he woke up, after all.
When he arrived and washed off the statue in the main area, Mipha did not greet him. Instead, a beautiful new carving of him riding Sidon to Vah Ruta was in its place.
There's a sting of melancholy.
It really shouldn't be there. Link's had his time to grieve, moreso than so many others were given the privilege.
He doesn't think he could ever love Mipha in the way she did him, but at least he could hold onto her kindness like she'd held onto him with her grace.
It's hard to admit he misses her. All of them.
-
He was told Sidon was located on Ploymus Mountain, stopping the tainted water at the source. When Link arrived, he paused, hand falling from where he'd been holding his weapon.
The Zora had created a beautiful place named 'Mipha Court' in his time away, to honour their fallen princess. Somehow, Link knew she would've adored it.
At the highest point, following the blue stairs with the water that flowed down them, was Mipha's statue. He looks over to the East Reservoir Lake, close to where Ruta used to be.
There's an apology on his lips he can't say. He looks over to Sidon, hyper-focused on his task.
He's glad she's been honoured to the highest degree and loved just as much as when she was alive.
-
He treks through the Eldin mountains next, embracing the not-so-scalding temperatures this time around. While visiting the back of Death Mountain, he notices the Lizard Lakes, reminding him of memories everyone wants to forget. He looks up higher on Death Mountain, only noticing a shrine waiting for him. He takes in a long breath. It was going to be no easy feat to reclimb all the way up.
-
It's off-putting to see so many Gorons unravelled by their new food discovery, and even worse when Yunobo is completely unlike himself by seemingly his princess's cause.
Luckily, the mask he's wearing breaks after a brief scuffle, and Yunobo is more than happy to fight.
As they walk through the city on their way to cure whatever had plagued Death Mountain, the Goron Stone Memorial sits repolished, lights glowing in the eyes of each warrior carved. Daruk sits in the middle of them all, continually overlooking Goron City.
"Do you think it looks alright?" Yunobo asks. "I had some help from my guys at YunoboCo, and I think it turned out pretty good!"
Link nods. Protector, indeed.
Daruk was a man of strength and heart. To see him stand as tall as he did on Rudania eases the ache in Link's heart ever-so-slightly.
-
In the wake of another round of re-exploring Hyrule, Link wonders how easy it will be to travel to someone grounding. Having made up his mind, that's how he ends up all the way across the continent at the Gerudo Hideout's doorstep. His Ascend ability comes into great use, and after explaining his harsh methods, he's redirected to Riju's location.
Her training seems to be having mixed results. She wields lightning as easily as Urbosa once did, but her aim is only truly guided once Link shoots an arrow to the correct destination.
Her pride in her abilities is clear, heralding them with the passion Urbosa once did to protect the people important to her.
The desert is once again shrouded in sand, making many areas unchartable. A certain camel stirs in Link's mind. The tower to see the map (when he could) sat right beside where it used to be. Before his long trek through the Gerudo Desert, he had sat on the steps, looking over it. The dragon that started to reside there made the spot look so small in comparison.
After catching up on the reason for Gerudo Town's vacant state, Link learned of new enemies that came to swarm the Gerudo, and they seemed to have very few vulnerabilities. Riju's power of lightning is useful indeed, being one of the only things able to strike foes down.
When the town is saved, she insists on following an old legend to dispel the sandstorm and kill off the Gibdo, hopefully for good. While preparations are being made, Link departs by her bedroom, happy to see her beloved sand seals upkept.
He passes her diary on the way to the courtyard, eager to hear about the spoils he'd won. However, a few lines catch his attention in passing, and he stops.
Riju speaks of her worries about The Upheaval, which comes from a place of little surprise. Her uneasiness continues into thoughts of Zelda and himself and their disappearance. She talks of the fortifications in place for Gerudo Town and how much she believes she can do against their new enemies. It ends with her speaking and leaving for training, advice Zelda once gave her at the forefront of her mind.
"Oh, Lady Urbosa, if only you were here with us. Watch over us all in these dark times, and keep Zelda and Link safe..."
Link turns away, wandering outside to the courtyard. She's just as quick-witted as he remembers, which comes as no surprise but is a relief nonetheless. She also seems to be the only one to mention Urbosa, her importance still weighing on her mind.
Her fury, her passion; he sees it so clearly in Riju. Urbosa's legacy was well placed in her hands.
If there was only one person to keep the memory of such a woman alive, he's glad it turned out to be her.
-
The Hebra region is cold, much more than usual. The locals he's come across all tell of a never-ending blizzard, one that has broken the Rito's bridge and put their community into a heavy drought from food and shelter.
From the Lucky Clover Gazzette, Link looks forward to the shrouded village. The Gazette isn't far, luckily. It's crowded and homey, with very few travellers and a story-hungry manager, but he's taken a few jobs from there, and it seems to be an alright place.
He huddles by the fire, waiting for morning. He breathes in the cool air and the smell of smoke. He's finally arrived at where he was supposed to go in the very beginning.
After gliding over the bridge to arrive at Rito Village, Link explores what seems to be the vacant spiralled suburb. Snow piles mound from every surface, and all the rooms are empty.
The shops are still open, run by the children of the village.
"The adults are gone," They say. "They went to find food and shelter. We're okay running everything while they're gone, though!"
Link thought being the sacred knight was a weighted burden at sixteen, but even then, he was chosen for it. There was always no hesitance when the thought occurred that he'd do alright. But these children? Running a whole village on their own? It makes him feel a tinge of guilt for not saving Zelda already, and putting this in their hands. Wasn't this something he was born to do?
He finds Tulin, Teba, and Saki talking on a certain landing covered in snow. It's indistinguishable from every other place in the village at this point.
Tulin must be around twelve years old now, claiming his independence with his promising, above-average skill set. Another kid with the weight of their world on his shoulders.
When he notices Link from afar, his eyes light up with glee and excitement. It makes him wonder why it took so long for him to get here.
Tulin has grown, that much is easy to see. Teba sighs and shakes his head once his son eagerly takes off on his next adventure. He tells Link that he can't leave, his new mantle as chief connected to overseeing the village in its darkest hour.
So Link follows, trekking up another mountain and into the mouth of a large cave.
Tulin's gone far, far ahead, exiting out of the other side and glaring up at some monsters. His tenacity is admirable, but it could be seen as foolhardy. Many of the Rito through the cave praised Tulin for his skill but sighed regardless, his lack of cooperation becoming a further frustrating trait. It's an echo of a person Link once knew, this child training to become a champion but seemingly held back by an inner flaw.
Tulin's excitement is still palpable, even once he tells Link his bow was stolen. With his power to control the winds and Link's skill as a halfway decent archer, Tulin retrieves his bow, happier than ever.
As he inspects said item, his smile fades, and his expression downturns.
"Link? I don't think I should've rushed off like that." He clutches his bow closer. "They all warned me, and I didn't listen. I just thought that because I had some better skills, I wouldn't need anyone else's help. I just didn't want to see them hurt, especially when they're all working so hard for the village."
Link's eyes widen, and he wonders if a certain loner would've said the same thing if he'd been this age.
He places a hand softly on his shoulder, rubbing it in what he hopes is a comforting gesture. Tulin peeks up with broad eyes. He dashes into Link's stomach, wings wrapping around his back.
Link hesitantly places both of his arms around the boy in return.
"You know, I really think I get it now. Teaming up with you was so fun! And it makes things a lot easier too." Tulin pulls back. "I think I'm ready. Let's go to the Sky Islands and save Princess Zelda!"
As they fly over, the catharsis settles, and the blizzard seems a little less harsh.
-
The Sky Islands in Hebra are a gigantic collection of ships based on an old myth that was very questionably true until now. Sheets of cloth line nearly every one, creating a space to bounce from ship to ship. As they near the eye of the storm, the wind grows harsher, and even the paraglider has trouble flowing through the gusts of wind. Tulin is just as strong here as he is on the ground, the only tell of struggle through his squinted eyes.
Finally, as the storm reached its apex, one last ship stood in the way. As Tulin bursts Link forward, he latches on to the side of the ship, eventually able to pull himself up. With one more bounce, the clouds clear, and finally, finally, the far edges of the horizon sing in prominence.
The two fall, eyes marvelling at the sky between one held breath- one held moment of stasis and the next.
Vah Medoh had been one thing but was so secluded in comparison. Even though Link had travelled through the sky so much already, he understood Rito's love for it only then.
The center of the storm housed the ship of legend in all of its splendour. With five turbines to activate throughout the three floors of the ship, they were going to be there for some time.
But it was eventually done.
Another of Ganondorf's creations, Colgera, waited for them from beneath.
Link and Tulin were blown into the sky as the giant monster attacked.
By utilizing a combination of well-placed arrows, Tulin's gusts, and dodging the spikes and tornados thrown their way, the monster fell in defeat.
Tulin, upon touching the sacred stone, becomes acquainted with the Imprisoning War from his ancestor and told the same as the other sages.
'The Sage of Wind', they'll now call him. A title heavy for a kid, but accepted wholeheartedly of his own volition. Another guardian has been born into Rito Village.
He looks at Link with pride he's only seen very a few times before. He won't let him, or any of the others, down.
-
Link stumbles by a woman as he makes his way to the top of the village upon their return. She makes passing, polite small talk with him, mentioning Vah Medoh's perch. She says it casually as if it's not a bad thing to remember.
It makes him breathe a sigh of relief as she wanders away.
-
Teba is overjoyed to see the two of them when they return. As their conversation about the Stormwind Ark dies down, Teba turns to his son, unclasping the bow on his back. Tulin looks around in surprise.
"I did tell you that this bow would be yours someday when you came into being a warrior."
Tulin nods, his wings gently wrapping themselves around the bow. Link sees his eyes travel down the blue ribbon attached, and feels his own breath catch.
"Dad... thank you," Tulin says. "I'll prove that I'm a worthy enough warrior to use it."
A small gust ruffles the trees nearby.
Teba nods, Saki behind him smiling. Tulin finally turns to Link.
"I think I'm going to look into the Stormwind Ark to figure out what
happened to Princess Zelda, so I might be gone for a while. But that doesn't mean I'll be gone forever, so come back soon, okay? I might have new information for you!" Link nods. "And don't feel like you're ever alone. I'm the Sage of Wind now, and my avatar will be supporting you for as long as I can!"
Link blinks, a small smile peeking through. He was going to be undoubtedly an unforgettable ally.
-
The adrenaline from his final adventure before the last battle finally wears off as everyone departs for the highest point of Rito Village.
There's no one else around, and the snow has finally melted the village's cold exterior and could finally be inhabited again.
Link turns his head to a sign a little ways away, noting that the Rito had polished it from his last visit with a red and white feather-like trim.
It reads: 'Revali's Landing'.
The pattern on the wood from it has not seemed to age. The Rito symbol sits proudly, even still, a shining beacon of hope for those who come across it.
How fitting that a bow passed from a great warrior, to a fighter and chief, and finally to his proven son was received in that very place.
The Rito did not speak of Revali, it seemed. They, like the rest of the world, had moved on in small ways over one-hundred years.
While his name may not have been spoken, it was softly known. From how well-kept the landing was to the passing of a torch. Tulin had the same force of a gale, and the power few Rito could harness would not go to waste in his care.
Even with such sentiment, Link couldn't help but feel a tad sympathetic for Revali. He would've hated not being mentioned more. He would've hated his sympathy. Link could laugh.
He doesn't.
He kneels down and runs a hand over the largest part of the Rito symbol. A sudden thought comes to him, and he sorts through his bag.
The sun starts to set, and pinks and blues flood the horizon most over the Hebra and Tabantha regions. Link leans up against the post of the landing, limbs too tired to find a proper campfire.
He drifts off to sleep, finally a pseudo-peace lightly blanketing his mind.
-
In the middle of the landing site, three Blue Nightshades lightly ruffle through the wind, steady.
I had forgotten you a lifetime ago, but in this one, I won't allow that memory to be lost.
EXTRA:
Link blinks awake, the full moon high in the sky and darkness shrouding the atmosphere. He stretches, briefly regretting his decision to sleep on the wood.
The flowers he'd placed sit peacefully, untouched. Maybe he'd backtrack a little with the idea now in mind. Maybe put some Swift Violets in the middle of Mipha Court? Or Sundelions in front of the giant Goron Statue? Or even Electric Safflina on Riju's desk?
A pitter-patter of footsteps worms its way around until the source is at his side.
"Sorry, I didn't wake you up, did I?" Tulin asks.
Link shakes his head.
"Phew, that's good. Couldn't sleep?"
Link parses with the thought for a moment. He tilts his head from side to side with a sheepish half-smile.
Tulin smiles, taking a seat next to Link. "Me neither. I mean, I'm so glad to be the Sage of Wind! But... I guess I've never really thought about what that meant. More exciting new adventures for sure!" He looks to the moon. "I know we can protect Hyrule. It's just a matter of time!"
Link nods quickly, smile stretching.
"It's nice to see the sky so clear again. You can actually see the moon!"
Link agrees. He hopes Tulin notices.
They sit in silence for a few more minutes, Tulin's eyes still on the sky.
"I like the flowers, by the way," Tulin says softly. "I'll make sure they won't get hurt while I'm around."
Link nods appreciatively.
"You know, I actually met Master Revali once before. It was a long time ago, and I don't fully remember what happened because I was so young, but I ask Dad about it as often as I can, because he was there too!" Link stares, wide-eyed. "Dad told me I accidentally followed him into a portal back in time, where the calamity was stopped, and no one died!"
Tulin's eyes glow.
"Master Revali saved me that day! He's really just as great as everyone said! And a lot nicer once you get to know him." Tulin chuckles. "I have his bow now. I told him one day I'd be worthy of it! I wish he could've seen me master it!"
Tulin falls back onto a post with a yawn.
"Link, do you think- since you knew- ugh, actually, never mind." He shakes his head.
Link tilts his head to the side in a questioning look. He hopes it's comforting enough for Tulin to keep going and be unashamed of doing so.
"It's kind of a stupid question." He laughs awkwardly. "Like I know dad already is, and I don't have to prove anything to anyone but- do you think that... Master Revali would've been proud of me?"
Link's eyes widen twofold, and for one of the very few times in his life, he acts on an impulsive emotion alone. He reaches behind Tulin, clutching him in his arms. He shakes his head up and down vigorously, unsure if the kid can even feel it.
"You really think so?" Oh no, he sounds a little sad. "Thank you, Link!" Tulin laughs openly instead. "Thank you so much!" He reciprocates the hug, a wide smile pressed into Link's upper shoulder.
When they pull away, the moon has already lowered significantly from the start of their conversation. Tulin yawns again.
"I'm guessing you're going to have to leave tomorrow morning? Lots of stuff to get ready for the final fight, right?"
Link finds himself reluctantly nodding.
"That's okay! I know you and everyone else are going to do awesome, Link!" Tulin yawns a third time. "I'd invite you to where we live for the night, but there's not that much room. Do you mind if I stay out here tonight?"
Link shakes his head.
"Awesome." Tulin leans his own head against Link's shoulder. "Good night, Link. And thanks for everything."
Sleep comes to the pair far easier this time.
-
At the same time, for the briefest of seconds, the water calms in every lake. The rocks and lava silence their thunder. A faraway bolt of lightning strikes an enemy. A light breeze ruffles through a trio of flowers, the chosen knight, and the Rito's upcoming greatest warrior.
Riju writes another entry into her diary, the next day looking even more promising.
Yunobo says goodnight to every Goron still awake after a hard day at work.
Sidon watches a shooting star fall from afar from the King's throne, attaching every single hope he has onto it.
A blissful peace settles over Hyrule. Even though there are many challenges yet to overcome, for one night, everything seems like it might turn out okay.

Revalink Week 2023, bonus day: Tears of the Kingdom
“I suppose you’d be able to get up to Vah Medoh now,” Revali murmurs, as Link digs his fingers onto the stone block pushing through gravity. His voice is reduced to a brief gust of wind on his ears, his hair, his skin, and Link hates it in its impermanence.
“I was wrong,” he continues, and Link hears him from so far away and he— “Should’ve known you’d find a way up. All on your own.”
He doesn’t hear him sigh. The wind breathes around him, a living thing, and he lets go. It carries him to the golden grass.
Green light bursts in streaks from the bokoblin horn at the outstretching of Link’s hand, and the horn binds itself to his sword with a twine of energy. He grins and examines the new weapon, testing its balance, the feeling of the horn’s tips slicing through the air.
A turquoise glow kindles in his peripheries. The shape of a wing, like light solidified, reaches out to prod the fused sword.
“Hm.”
Link hefts the weapon cheerfully and signs with his off-hand. “I like it.”
A scoff. Green streaks dance at the edge of his vision. Turquoise, like flame. “You would.”
“That’s cheating.”
Link shakes his head, laughing. It’s cheating and he knows it. Revali knows he knows it. That’s funny.
“You cannot just — attach an eyeball to your arrow and let it aim for you, much less a keese eye — why that thing would have anything to do with accuracy, I’ll never know.” Revali presses a wing to his face in exasperation. “You have time magic, how can this possibly be necessary?”
Link shrugs. “I guess I’m bad with a bow,” he signs lightly.
Abruptly, Revali’s demeanor changes. “Right,” he scoffs. Then he vanishes in a glow of turquoise light.
Hyrule is pretty from above.
The sky islands are their own kind of view, golden and perpetually bathed in light — but he doesn’t think he’ll ever get tired of seeing this on. Sitting here, legs dangling freely off the edge. Alone in the sky with the entire world at his fingertips.
Link feels something on his shoulder, like a cool flame.
“Careful,” Revali says, the pressure of his wing both tangible and not, “you don’t want to fall.”
“I can skydive,” Link signs thoughtfully. “But it’s not the same as flying.”
Revali exhales, and comes down to sit beside him.
The first time Link ascends, green light rippling within the stone, he does it because he has to. The winds can’t carry him through solid matter.
It doesn’t make him feel less guilty. He’s not oblivious. The thing with not talking is that you get good at listening.
When he emerges from the stone, Revali is waiting for him.
“I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised,” he says to the tree on Link’s right, and scoffs with what could so easily be called scorn.
Link raises his hands to sign, but then the wind rises, and Revali is already soaring away.
(A conversation, somewhere beyond:
“I don’t get it.”
“Why he’s staying?”
“It’s been a hundred years. That’s already way too long.”
“It always seemed like he had… trouble, letting go.”
“For this long? Link doesn’t need him anymore, we all see that. Wouldn’t that encourage him to move on?”
“No.”
“I always thought he was stubborn. Too stubborn, really — but he’ll only move on when he’s ready.”
“I just don’t understand why he didn’t pass on when we did.”
“You want to know what I think? He wasn’t satisfied. He wanted more.”
“Doesn’t everyone?”
“Him more than most, I think.”)
Tulin beams at Link, face flushed with cold and sweat. “That was amazing!” he exclaims. “You’re so much better than I am. Still! I’ve been practicing at the Flight Range, every day. My dad’s been helping me, but he’s still recovering.”
“I can help you,” Link offers.
“Really?” Tulin bursts out, bouncing lightly. “Oh, wow.”
“The Flight Range was always supposed to be a training ground. Or Revali said so.”
Tulin seems even more excited at that. “Master Revali?” he says, awestruck. “Do you think he’d be happy? That… I want to learn?”
Without needing to think, Link signs, “Yes.”
Link is adjusting Tulin’s aim one day, gently nudging his wings to different positions to guide his sightline to his target, all the way on the other side of the hollow. They’re on the little wooden walkway extending over the updrafts, so the updrafts are fairly strong even up here, enough to stick Tulin’s feathers up as he shifts around.
At Link’s step back and encouraging thumbs-up, Tulin releases the arrow. It thuds directly into the center of the target.
Tulin lowers the bow with a bright grin, then takes a running leap off the walkway and spreads his wings. The wind spirals upward, lifting him over Link’s head.
He looks up.
A spark of blue-green.
Revali is standing on the edge of the mountainside, watching Tulin laugh, bend his bow in midair, send arrows flying at the targets. His whoop whenever a target splinters echoes on the wind.
He turns to look at Link. He’s smiling. Soft, tentative.
Link smiles back.

I finished Tears of the Kingdom, so here are my thoughts
I recently finished Tears of the Kingdom and wow... wow! The game was beautiful all the way through. As such, I'd like to talk about my experience and thoughts.
DISCLAIMER: this post contains spoilers for the game. Read at your own risk.
Additionally, please don't take my opinions too seriously. I'm just someone on the internet. You don't have to agree or disagree but please be respectful.
Without further ado...
Overview:
Tears of the Kingdom is a beautiful game. Absolutely beautiful, from the designs to the scores to the gameplay. All of it, beautiful.
That being said, it took some adjusting. I missed having the convenience of our elemental and bomb arrows, I missed not having to pay for every time I wanted armor upgraded, and I missed not having to fight against the RNG to get items I needed for upgraded armor. The map did have some changes that took getting used to, and some of my favorite ingredient/monster part hunting spots were no longer there, so that sucked.
But it fits the story, I find. I like how the weapons changed due to the Upheaval (though I'm a bit confused as to how bows aren't decayed), how the monsters evolved and the new monsters that came, and how the Great Fairies function — we learned in Breath of the Wild that rupees gave them power, and I found that it made more sense to pay for the upgrades instead of just a one time payment.
That being said, while TOTK takes place some time after the events of BOTW, there were some things that left me feeling empty. What happened to all the guardians? The Divine Beasts? The Sheikah towers and the shrines? The Sheikah Slate? It just seems weird to me that they would just vanish without an explanation... especially the Beasts.
On top of that, I missed the Champions. I was thrilled to see that Mipha was still a big part of Zora's Domain and with Sidon's plotline, and I love her water gardens, but I was so scared when I didn't see her statue at first.
But to continue, while it makes sense for the Zora to keep Mipha very much alive considering how beloved she is, it felt strange that the other three weren't mentioned at all. Teba has a Great Eagle Bow, and Tulin can create gusts of wind, but no concrete to homage to Revali. Riju had dual Scimitar of the Seven, which Urbosa wielded, but she's not mentioned. Heck, Yonobo is the grandchild of Daruk (source is the Creating a Champion artbook), yet Daruk's Protection has disappeared and he's not mentioned at all.
Don't get me wrong, I understand why they wouldn't be prominent. TOTK is not BOTW, and the Champions and Divine Beasts are no longer the center focus. Still, it feels weird that they were expunged entirely. At least we have those cool helms!
Regional Phenomenon Questline:
I'm going to break this down the way I completed them... which was in the exact same way as I did in BOTW! Why not, it was fun. And also, the first region will allow me to address a big elephant in the room...
Zora's Domain and the Water Temple
Zora's Domain was the first region I completed in both games, and I was so happy to be back. I love the score in the Domain, I just find it so soothing... and it's the home of my favorite fish people!
I found it super goofy that Bazz was trapped under sludge. Like sir, you didn't see that falling? You didn't look up? At least he was ok in the end. King Dorephan being alive gave me a lot of relief. Don't get me wrong, in the trailers I was stoked to see Sidon as king, but what happened to his big ol' dad? I also love his new outfit after he gives his son the crown. Also, I love how to reveal the new statue of Sidon and Link, you have to clean it and then boom — Link riding Sidon statue.
Can I just say I love Sidon's new attire? It looks so good on him. I love the little navy blue addition to his ascots and I'm very happy to see they kept the whistle. Sidon is a big comfort character of mine, so reuniting with him first was like chicken soup for the soul. I also love the water manipulation ability. It's a very cool ability to have and it's very fitting for the Zora (naturally). A little sad he doesn't dual wield spears like he had in AOC, but regardless, he's great. He's great. I love Sidon. He's a card.
Now, with the Water Temple, I found it just a bit underwhelming. It's beautifully designed, don't get me wrong, and I love his ancestor and how Sidon gets his secret stone on his glove and he gives Link his vow (I don't ship Sidlink but that was fruity). But what I found underwhelming was the boss. Compared to the others, having the goofy Mucktorok felt a little... hmm... it was a fun fight, however! I did have fun! For my, compared to Waterblight Ganon from BOTW and the Scourges in the other temples, to me, it felt a little subpar.
Now I've addressed this before but now that I've played through and can make a better statement than my previous one a lot better... let's talk about Yona.
I like her! She's super cute! I have grown attached to her style and her character, and she has such a sweet little theme. My only big issue with her is, I find her to be one dimensional. Now, I'm not attacking her or hating on her. I think Yona as a character has an immense amount of potential, the writing for her is just... a little bland. The romantic subplot with her and Sidon and her story feels lackluster. I think, if they wanted to show Sidon's fear of losing someone else, someone he loves, I have the perfect man for the job — King Dorephan. Dorephan is his father, and the last remaining family Sidon has left. With Dorephan actually injured, I find it would make more sense for that subplot to be about their father-son bond. Maybe after finding out Dorephan is injured and in hiding, Sidon goes to find his father and it's Dorephan who tells him to be strong and to help link. In my opinion, that's more plausible.
Back to my original thought, I wish Yona had more development as a character. It's very clear she means a lot to Sidon and vice versa, but I wish there was more instead of her just being thrown in. If she's his dearest friend since childhood, I would have loved to have heard more about her in BOTW. I just want to know more about her. I want to see more character in her. And yes, to address the whole marriage debate — yes, Sidon saw her as a sister, and yes his feelings "became difficult to quantify." Feelings are changing all the time. In my opinion, it feels weird to someone who considers another family to suddenly fall in love with them. But that's just me.
To the Sidona shippers: y'all rock. While I personally don't ship Sidona, I support y'all. I am in love with all the artwork and writing I have found of them, and the way I look at it, it's more art of Sidon I get to enjoy. This is a Yona hate free zone, I will not entertain Yona hate.
To the other shippers, Sidlink and all: it's canon, we cannot change it. But! AUs exist. Headcanons exist. Heck, if Yona bothers you that much, ignore her all together. Nothing is going to stop you from shipping Sidlink and Sidon with ocs, so please be positive and keep doing what you're doing. I myself will continue making art and writing of my oc/canon ship with Sidon and my OC, because that's what makes me happy. I have some art and stories of them I plan to share, and I really hope you like them too :)))
Rito Village and the Wind Temple
Now, back on track after my tangent about Yona. The Rito Village was the second location I tackled and oh my god, I got a kick out of the kids running the village. I love how they tried to help keep the town in order while the adults were trying to find the source of the blizzard and gather supplies.
I was super relieved to find Teba alright, I know we were all afraid that he was dead or something considering he wasn't in the trailer. But I love Teba very much, and I was thrilled to see him again.
Tulin is PRECIOUS. My little nephew. I love how he looks fully-fledged, and he's such a sweet li'l rascal... and the fact his quiver has his parents' feathers on there, it is such a cute gesture.
Quick aside, I love Penn, but I MISS KASS... where did he go... I miss hearing his accordion.
The Wind Temple, I find, was the most challenging to get to. I remember stacking three Zonai springs together at one point just to get to where I needed to go because for the life of me I could not get that one floating rock. I loved the bouncy sails on the ships. It gave me the kinda vibes a bouncy castle does.
The temple being the Stormwind Arc and not an actual building was delicious. A very nice touch. That being said, I love how different all the temples are: we have one in the sky that's actually a temple, the other is a flying ship, there's a temple in the depths, and then one on good ol' terra firma.
I LOVE the design of Colgera. Granted, I did do the temple at night, so it did scare me just a bit. It was a lot of fun to fight, and the cutscene of the sky becoming clear with Teba on Revali's Landing was perfect. It was a very sweet scene to add, when Tulin received his father's bow, the Great Eagle Bow, and the scarf as a nod to Revali. I wish the bow Teba made for me had the scarf...
Goron City and the Fire Temple
I personally miss that region flowing with lava. I felt it really drove home how hot the mountain is and the environment the Goron lived in, but it's much easier to traverse and it's nice to see there's still lava in the deeper caves.
I adore Yunobo, and seeing him become rude made me so sad. That's not my boy! I wanted my boy back! Making me fight him was not cool! He's such a good, kind character that it legit made me so sad to see him possessed by that mask.
I'll admit... I cheated the Fire Temple. I love the music score in that temple, and I had a lot of fun there, but I'll be the first to admit that I did not care for the mine cart system. I just climbed to where I needed to go. I'm sorry, that system really confused me and my ADHD was having none of it. So I figured I'd just cut to the chase and just climb.
I really like how the checkpoints were gongs, and having Yunobo barrel into them was very reminiscent of how we had to launch him to drive off Vah Rudania in BOTW.
The boss for the temple, left me feeling a little underwhelmed like the Mucktorok. Just break Marbled Gohma's legs and then beat the shit out of it. I can't say it wasn't entertaining though use Yunobo like that as if we were bowling.
The fist bump for the vow was such a quirky touch for Yunobo. I love it. It was really so sweet. And I love seeing Yunobo's resolve to become a stronger individual. His character growth from being a timid Goron in BOTW to now, I'm so proud of him. I feel like a proud mom.
Gerudo Town and the Lightning Temple
The gibdos absolutely terrified me. I ran into them not realizing the were there on my first time going to Gerudo town and I did not think to use elemental anything so when my most powerful weapons didn't make a dent, I panicked. Though admittedly, the moth gibdo wings are very pretty... still terrifying. I'm just glad we didn't have redeads.
Riju is SO pretty. I love her new hairstyle. At first I really missed her long hair, but she rocks her new short style. I've always loved Riju, and her reintroduction.
The Lightning Temple had to be one of, if not my favorite temple. I found it had the most difficult puzzles for me to solve, and I enjoyed that. I found I was using my brain a lot more for that temple than the others... and I died in a lot of stupid ways because sometimes the most obvious solution isn't that clear to me.
As someone who is very afraid of bugs, Queen Gibdo did not do it for me. She very much gave me the heebie jeebies... but it was nice to watch the sandstorm fade away from the Gerudo desert, for Riju to return to the throne room in the town, and for the Gerudo to leave the emergency shelter and return to their daily lives.
Overall the Regional Phenomenal questline was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed myself.
The Dragon's Tears Questline:
This fucked me up. Learning about Zelda's time in the past leading up to her becoming the Light Dragon actually made me cry. It was fun to discover the geoglyphs and have them become a permanent part of the map, but oof... my heart.
I cried when Sonia died, and it hurt so much when there was the scene of Rauru at her grave. All of it was just heart wrenching, especially Zelda became a dragon after Mineru "died" and found shelter in the Purah Pad. When Zelda screamed for Link to "protect them all" as her eyes changed... oof... ruin me.
Crisis at Hyrule Castle and the Sixth Sage:
I think it was pretty obvious for me that the Zelda we had been seeing wasn't really Zelda. Running around Hyrule Castle in an attempt to reach her, only to fight monster forces was not a very pleasant affair, and the Phantom Ganon fights were also a bit of a pain, albeit fun nontheless.
I loved how the Sages came to Link's aid in the end. It made the game feel a lot less lonely. It made me very happy to see them there protecting Link. It really gave you a sense of how much they care about him, and what he means to them.
Finding the Sixth Sage was a lot of running around that I made much more difficult because I forgot the mask when I found it, so I had to go all the way back to get it, and I didn't realize I had to put the mask in the construct, so cut to me spending an hour trying to get the limbs for the robot when the depots weren't activated yet... oops.
I absolutely adore Mineru. She is so pretty, and I love her voice. I love how her character ties in the past and present, and how she fits so well in the story. And riding her construct was a lot of fun... the boss fight for her secret stone took me a hot minute to figure out... I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometime, so when I pushed the Ganon-controlled construct into the electric fence, I was legit surprised that that was what I was supposed to do.
Defeating Ganondorf:
First off, I would like to say I miscalculated how thick the pillar was on the way down into the Depths from Hyrule castle and I shattered Link's body on the side of it the first time I dove down. It was honestly really funny. It also was a strange disconnect at first as I made my way down to Ganon, because I did not realize how DEEP underground Zelda and Link went to even find this formerly dehydrated prune to begin with.
I was... SO happy and excited that I got to fight alongside the other Sages before going to fight Ganon. It felt so euphoric, like the culmination of all our efforts was coming to fruition and we were all finally comrades in arms. It felt way more personal than the fight with Calamity Ganon in BOTW.
Being separated from them made me so sad. It felt really helpless, watching Link being trapped in the cave while the others fought. Like no don't leave me!
But the final fight, from the beginning to the end, was STELLAR. For the Sages to rejoin us and we fight him all together?! Yes please! Granted his second form's extended life bar def gave me Dark Souls vibes, which is one of my favorite franchises (including Bloodborne) so that was fitting. Though watching my friends be thrown to the side had me scared there for a second.
Watching him become the Demon Dragon, as an individual who recently graduated with a degree in animation with a specialty in effects, was so tasty. And to watch it emerge from beneath Hyrule castle... I can only imagine what it felt like to watch it like that... and for the clearly much smaller Light Dragon come to rescue us... chills. Literal chills. The score for that cutscene was perfect. And for Link, in the face of dragon, to draw the Master Sword like no big deal? Incredible.
Fighting the Demon Dragon alongside the Light Dragon, and to watch it be destroyed was incredible. And for Link to receive his arm back and Zelda returning to normal, for Link to finally grab Zelda's hand and hold her as they fell into the water only to carry her out again... I'm a huge Zelink fan, so that made my heart soar.
The Ending:
The ending itself was beautiful. I was so moved when the current Sages gave the same pledge to Zelda as their ancestors had to Rauru, and I legit cried when Mineru moved on to the afterlife. It was sentimental, and beautiful. I don't think I could have asked for a better ending.
Final Thoughts:
This game... was stunning. It was everything I could have asked for in a sequel to Breath of the Wild. And sure, there are plenty of things to nitpick about, but I had such a positive experience, I'm not even going to bother with all of that.
It was a thrilling and fresh experience, and I enjoyed myself very much.
With that being said, I know we're all looking for DLC and another game. In my personal opinion, I think Tears of the Kingdom did a very good job of wrapping up this story. I'm all down for DLC, but I personally think BOTW and TOTK doesn't need a third game. I think the story these two games portrayed, from the story of the Champions and Calamity Ganon to the climax of defeating Ganon and saving Hyrule, is completed with the conclusion of TOTK.
Of course, that's all up for Nintendo, but I am satisfied with this. I'm very happy. I could not ask for more.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I appreciate you sticking it out with my silly little ramblings. I really hope you all enjoy Tears of the Kingdom as much as I did, and I am always down for discussions and stuff in regards to this!
Just a little reminder: I'm just one person on the internet. Please be respectful of my opinions!
And with all that, in mind, I hope you all have a wonderful day. And now, to play both games all over again.
Courier out.

TotK Dungeon Thoughts!
Finally finished the first four main dungeons. Whether there's more or not, I'll find out, but I thought I'd make a quickly little post on my general thoughts.
More details below, but up here I'll say: It feels like you were 'expected' to complete them Rito-Zora-Goron-Gerudo (very gently tho). However, I think for the most satisfying route, I'd go Goron-Rito-Zora-Gerudo (if nothing else Goron first).
Rito and Tulin
The game pushes you in the direction of the Rito very strongly when you start the game, and I decided to do them first. Over all, a pretty good choice as you run into a lot of good things on the way.
The story itself, I like! I like that you arrive in Rito Village and only the kids are left, really already telling you a lot about what's going on. I like that Teba was left behind because he's the new chief, rip the old Chief. It also makes me very happy how excited Tulin was to see Link, really showing that Tulin looks up to Link. Tulin having wind powers shows that that was not just a Revali thing, just that he was extremely skilled with his own, and I very much like that.
Tulin's power itself is distinct from Revali's Gale. I miss Revali's Gale because of how useful it was to get around, but it also did makes things a little too easy at times, and Tulin's power feels more in tune with the game as it is, as being able to push yourself through the air is useful. Easily the power I use the most of the sages.
The trip up to the Wind Dungeon is a lot of fun. It just barely doesn't overstay it's welcome, and about halfway through there is a shrine so that you can take a break. Over all, it was a lot of fun, though I was hoping that the flying ships we'd seen were going to appear more in the other places in the sky.
The Wind Dungeon itself is, well, it's fine. It's more distinct in style than the divine beasts, which I like, but I did also like the how the divine beasts you could manipulate things. It's give and take, though, and I get that. What mostly bugs me is how every element felt isolated; solving one part of the dungeon did not help me solve another, and that really bugged me, especially since I had a lot of trouble with a couple of the locks (mostly because I'm dumb but that's besides the point).
I like the boss! It felt really good to dive right through the week points, or to be smart enough and a good enough shot to shoot out the weak points from beneath the boss. It also has you utilize Tulin well enough when you need to dodge the boss.
This was my first dungeon, so the ending cutscene with the previous sage was very good and interesting, and I loved that you get to have a shade of the sage to help you fight! It really captures how one of the themes of Tears of the Kingdom is how much Link is not alone.
Goron and Yunobo
Climbing Death Mountain always sucks a little because I hate the armor, but at least the Gorons live in a place where you don't die trying to reach them, so that's a win in my book. The goron quest line is easily my least favorite, hence why I suggest doing it first. I'm also going back and forth on how much/what I'd change.
I think the marbled rock roast is, ugh, fine I guess as a plot point? The biggest problem to me is that the plot lines of the rest of the regions feel very personal, and make you really really worried about the well being of those there. I'm not not concerned for the Goron, but I could definitely be more concerned.
I'm also undecided on how I feel about Yunobo with the mask. When Yunobo first showed up and was mean, I wanted to punch is teeth in. But also, what an interesting take on the character, where over the years he got maybe a little big in the head over his company and his status, and how it's time to bring him down to earth again. The mask breaking off and him being nice again, I was happy to see my nice friend again, but also he was more or less the same as when I'd last seen him.
The up Eldin Volcano sucked, I totally didn't understand what I was supposed to do with the monster on top of the volcano at first, which made it a little frustrating at first. The mini battle itself was fine enough, though, and flying on the machines is always fun.
Going through the Depths to the Fire Dungeon sucked. I wasn't a huge fan of that, it just felt like padding. Why not put me there just right away?
The Fire Dungeon, like everything else, was fine I guess. I like rails and minecarts a lot, but a lot of the tracks felt too short honestly to be much fun, and sometimes I'd give up navigating them and just straight up climb the sides of the buildings to get where I needed to go. The boss fight, on the other hand, i thought was really nice! It felt good to put Yunobo's power to so much use, it flowered pretty well, It felt both challenging but also like I was prepared for it.
Zora and Sidon
Seeing Zora's Domain all swamped in shit water was a shock and I love how shocking it was and how upset it made me to see the place in such a state. I was immediately invested in finding out what had happened to cause this and how I could help. The statue in Zora's domain with Link and Sidon is great (even if I was worried at first where Mipha's had gone) and SO FUNNY to see it and meet Sidon's fiancee right afterwards.
I like that Yona gets a mantaray head - it immediately sets her off as different from most of the other Zora, and she and her attendents have different armor than the Hyrule Zora. She's a little simplistic as a character, but over all I like her. I another small detail I like is that the child Zora are playing in the water in the throne room, and that room seems to be some of the cleanest water, and I like to imagine that was on purpose. We also see here that healing is magic many Zora have, which I like, but also that it seems hard for them.
Sidon trying so hard to heal as much water as he can, and be the only one putting his life on the line so no one else dies like Mipha, was just so good. It's great set up in BotW, and pay off here of how traumatizing of an experience that was. Again, I like that Yona got to be like 'I know you, Sidon, and I know youre trauma, and I know what you want to and should do in this situation, so do it'.
Getting to the dungeon was so fun! The floaty jumping was a little weird at times, but over all I loved it and gave the path such a distinct feel, a lot like the path to the Wind Dungeon.
The Water Temple was the easiest in my opinion (none of them were overly hard, but this felt really quick to me) (also the Lightning Temple is a close second) ((ALSO ALSO some of that can probably be attributed to me just getting more used to the game and the kind of thought processes it asks of you)) but I thought the way it worked was pretty good. The boss was also very funny, as you were totally set up to expect a like like and instead got the weirdest octorock you've ever seen, and you're pushed to use Sidon's power in a way that feels very natural, though I haven't used it much after this dungeon tbh.
Gerudo and Riju
Going through the desert and seeing the Gerudo Town so destroyed was devastating. This was also where the gibdo were introduced, a suitably creepy enemy for such a scary thing going on. However, they don't stun you. This makes some sense since they show up in such hoards, but also takes away a lot of the scariness of them, and they're almost laughably easy to beat after they've been hit by some kind of elemental attack. Again, I was immediately concerned and wanted to do whatever I could to help the Gerudo. I like that you didn't have to really sneak in (except at first) because you've earned their trust by now and these are extenuating circumstances.
Buliara is one of my fav characters (she was really important in a fanfic I was working on where a new Gerudo male was born) so getting to see her and her specifically vouching for Link absolutely made my day. I like that the Gerudo are utilizing the underground bunker - in general, I love all the times in the game emergency things like that are broken out because these are hard times. Riju, a little older now and training hard, but not frustrated or feeling (at least not acting like) she thought she wasn't good enough was great. She wasn't hitting the mark, but she seemed just focused on training until she could.
The way to the Lightning Temple was okay, It wasn't bad but it wasn't note worthy, although I did like that you got to see the boss before you actually fought her. The best part was when Link had to help defend Gerudo Town from the gibdo. I'm not sure I did actually put together the best plan, but I felt like I helped, and getting the spoils afterwards made it even better.
The temple was a bit weird to navigate, and I'm not even sure I solved everything the way it was 'supposed' to go, but I did it so hey, what more can you ask for. The boss was pretty good, although she was, like, very bug like, and I think it made you kind of go 'oh, the gibdo aren't humans, they're bugs' which further makes them a little less creepy in my opinion.
General/Final Thoughts
Over all, I thought the dungeons felt a lot more like Zelda dungeons than the divine beasts did, and I like them well enough. I wish they were a little trickier, but also I wasn't overly bugged by them being too easy. Each dungeon felt very distinct, which I loved, and you never think you're in one place over the other.
Honestly, my biggest problem is with the Sages. I wish we 1) got names for them or learned more about them and 2) I wish the little cutscenes were a little more distinct.
The end of each dungeon goes: here's the sage, the sage was in the fight and won, Sage of Time told them to recreuit their descendent, wow didn't the Sage of Time look like Zelda? I understand this is because you could visit any dungeon in any order, but I think they would've, like, shown the Sage was in charge of something specific, show more of how the war impacted them specifically, something or anything to make that part more distinct.
Uh, so yeah, I like them, I think they're mostly an improvement over BotW (they both have pros and cons, though, and there are defo things that BotW did better than TotK). Let me know your thoughts about the dungeons if you want! (without spoiling anything past them please ^-^)

this one's to the lovely who dropped an entire essay back @ me in the inbox! i've decided to format the post such that i can answer some portions directly so none of us get confused, hope you don't mind! anything indented is what you sent in, the rest is part of my response :) it's another doozy but we love those, don't we? asflkdj here we go!
Hi, hope you're doing well! I'd been the anon giving you asks more on Revali's personality and his behavior around the Flock and the Flock's reaction (mostly Tulin's) towards him. Also, the 1.6k did not overwhelm me- if anything made me very happy and overall more curious ahahaha. If anything- thank you so much for accepting and taking the time to answer these asks. Can relate to the unhinged feelings over the lonely rito- I could be hours and hours thinking. That gif of the guy with a board behind full of clues and trying to connect the dots- that's currently me.
hello, welcome back! thank you, hope you're having a wonderful time too!! ♡ also gotta thank you again for sending these in, i genuinely get so excited to see things like this in my inbox!! your passion is so great to see! i'm glad you enjoy my answers, and that they make you all the more curious and open to sharing with me ♡ what a huge mood though afklsjdg this stupid bird just has So Much to him
I've re-read your post various times and even tried organizing my thoughts in paper. And there is so much I want to ask... What caught a lot my attention- was how you spoke a bit of Rito village during & after the Calamity; ofc we don't really get a clear picture of the before even with AoC's light but we do get the clearest view of the aftermath of it (ofc 100 years skipped). I do feel (Pre-Calamity) Rito Village had a larger flock(?) compared to the village we get exposed during BoTW/ToTK events. In a way feels the loss of their Champion & Calamity's wrath- made them all realize the importance of that sense of unity.
yes, exactly! you get it! it's a natural outcome from suffering any huge loss...and while it comes from a place of tragedy, i just. really appreciate how homely and cosy rito village feels in both botw and totk because of it — you get that sense of nobody is genuinely uncared for, even link! and this isn't to say that the other peoples of hyrule don't care for their own, it just! hits different with the rito. like you get the impression that everybody interacts with each other everyday! you literally can't go from the top of the village to the bottom without seeing almost every single resident; they're all practically neighbours! they're all, on some level, friends!
this significance on sticking together as a community is especially evident in totk. seriously, it makes me so emo seeing the kids step up to fill in spaces the adults did not mean to leave behind nor expect them to fill :') and their efforts don't go unrecognised, as they shouldn't be, but oh my god. on my hands and knees over how cherished the kids are in this damn flock!! nekk ( MY BELOVED ) puts it best: "they're the saviours of this village."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and like! they're going through extremely hard times with supply scarcities but still find the capacity to be so generous?? there are more things than i expected lying about that you can just grab — that they'll consciously let you grab! i'm going to need these folks to stop having such a huge collective heart fr it's making me feel A Lot 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( and in reviewing cutscenes from both botw and aoc in this context, i think we can safely say that their residential population was indeed bigger pre-calamity. there's more background npcs just chilling about in the memory "revali's flap" compared to most post-calamity cutscenes, and aoc literally shows that there are enough rito present for brigades! the reduced numbers we see post-calamity could simply be attributed to more rito travelling beyond their home and even hyrule, but then the calamity would probably be a big reason for that too )
Brings me back to ToTK, where I noticed most adults in a way spoke highly & relied (at least to me) a bit on Tulin's ability to use wind magic- after all it's been a long time since they ever witness it. But also appreciated how Harth's dialogues which he praises the boy's ability but is concerned of how Tulin is taking certain approach (how at first he goes alone) and his overworking state. Even Teba & Saki recognize their son's abilities but as parents are concerned- I am pretty sure while they acknowledge him as a rito warrior, they also want him to continue living his childhood. (Link does too btw- sorry I don't mention them often)
OH, FOR SURE. you are right on many points here; for sure, the adults have come to see tulin as a young rito warrior in his own right and do trust him to contribute in a way they wouldn't ask of the other fledglings; harth makes it clear that even before link had come, sending tulin to investigate the cloud surrounding the stormwind ark was an option they weren't as opposed to as our introduction to the kid made it seem ( and it's not just his wind-gust technique they're so in awe of either! god. he really has worked so hard!! and everybody can see it! 😭😭 ).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
with the worry, i believe the nature of it really depends! it's all completely warranted given how tulin's initial views on how "he doesn't need anyone else backing him up" has apparently "gotten him into trouble more times than [harth] can count" ( which is definitely concerning but also. it can't be anything worse than getting his bow stolen and being left with just his talons for defence in the face of a monster, right? because tulin. tulin. that could not have been your turnaround if you've been doing shit like flying straight into frost taluses solo or something sflkjd ) anyway, but it seems for teba and harth, it's more in a we're worried you're actively sabotaging yourself with your recklessness way.
Tumblr media
saki had hang-ups about tulin losing his innocence too early in botw ( "he is such a sweet boy," she says, and it never fails to make me collapse on my knees because he so is and the best thing is he never loses that aspect of himself!! ), but does appear to have come to accept that her son's growing up in totk? i unfortunately don't have a screenshot of the line that indicates this, nor do i remember it verbatim, but the vibes i'm getting from her are i'm worried because you have not learnt enough to be as grown up as you insist you are ( which leaves you ill-prepared for the situations you're trying to fly into ).
ofc it all connects to a primary worry for his safety and his tendency to do way more than anyone would ask of him, but i do think they understand, on some level, that trying to completely stop him is ultimately futile and will only make things worse — in that he'll start deliberately pushing them away when he's only leaving them behind for now.
he's a tween! still a child but only ever getting older, and with how important it is to their culture, i imagine being a warrior isn't as mutually exclusive from childhood as it'd be for us. like tulin's an outlier because he's a prodigy who excessively worked himself to that title, but i don't doubt that compulsory education for growing fledglings would involve, among other things, learning how to at least hunt and defend yourself in the wild! so i don't think it's that they're scared of him growing up too fast at that point in totk — because while he's definitely matured more than his peers in some parts, he is very much still experiencing being a child no matter what he argues in many others aflskdj — just more like...they want him to grow up well. properly, for a lack of better words. WHICH INCLUDES NOT OVERWORKING. oh my god with the overworking
( also oh boy. very glad you brought up link! no need to be sorry! i can't say much on him because i'm not a link writer, though i do ramble about his dynamic with tulin, including how he potentially sees himself reflected in him, over here if you're interested! )
But this also sends me off to another "path" makes me think- What if Revali didn't have this type of support? And it made me think how similar were Revali's and Tulin's in some aspects but how different the outcome were for both- it's a bit tragic at least for me.
YES. YES!! THIS IS IT, YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD!! i've said it before and i'll say it again: tulin and revali are essentially one support system removed from being each other! they share notable parallels!
just. the fact that harth notices the injuries on tulin's wings from pushing himself to the limits. we don't get follow-up dialogue on that, but there's such a high chance that Words are exchanged between them when link leaves them be because we've seen their relationship. we know how harth cares for tulin, we know tulin is loved for more than what he can do and looked out for. now juxtapose that with revali, thrown out of his own tornado, alone in that moment where he picks himself up as well — but way less likely to have anyone say anything about his wing injuries or to even let someone think he has them. [spontaneously combusts]
i would say more on this and why the sages of totk in general act well as foils to the champions of botw, particularly regarding themes, but that really does feel like a post for another time sdflkjd and it is tragic! it is very tragic! revali was doomed by the narrative in more ways than one :')
I remember the diary where he speaks how the town began praising him for his achievements- that type of validation can be good but to an extreme and left unchecked, it can spiral someone into depending of it. And yet at the end of that diary... he still spoke how he need to continue perfecting himself. Something that AoC made me think in more depth was how almost everyone was "chosen" by destiny (or have a unique ability) and carried a title. But when I look at Revali he seems somehow an abstract to them. Even though in his diary such things were not something he cared for- he mostly valued folks by their responses and actions. (Note: Found cute how he appreciated the scarf and gave one to his bow... It really meant a lot to him// Also I do think Revali appreciated all the Champions including Zelda & Link).
YEAH. YEP. and the way he at first speaks about it, how he contradicts himself in tone despite trying to sound so self-assured — "as one would expect" VS the "i...could get used to this." that follows in the same entry — that's the attention and glory he's always wanted! now he's gonna affix it to the meaning of loving and being loved. which he's also going to attach to his abilities and what he can offer, which is deeply connected to his perceived self-worth. and he's going to make sure he'll never run out of ( tbf real and well-earned ) confidence in that self-worth by constantly pushing himself to greater, more impossible heights. i'm going to put this bird in a washing machine.
he's literally just a guy!! it's one of my favourite things about him, he's Just Some Guy in the group of people who were born into wealth; powers; blessings; respect. they all had their trials, but he earned his place among them from the comparative nothing he started out with and he's justifiably proud of this!
i do think he's also insecure about it at first, tbh ( which he reacts to by laying on the conceit even thicker ), even though his belief in hard work being a supreme indicator of one's "true strength" isn't actually shaken. he is genuinely like i more than deserve to be here but he's also like. and there's nothing you can do about it. don't you forget it. don't you forget it. don't you ever forget it. i wouldn't say it mellows out, but the more he gets to see the champions in action ( thus confirming that they are on his level — that he's fit to make a constellation amongst these that've already been mapped ), the less inclined he feels to explicitly remind them.
and oh my god. the things i could say about what the blue scarf likely means to him. it was handcrafted by zelda, hyrule's princess, for him specifically. it's part of a matching set with other big powers of hyrule. titles and uniform do nothing for him, he claims, but isn't this like being told you are one of us? that you have much to offer? it's "meaningless pomp", he says.
it's also still a gift.
the cloth he ties to his bow is the same shade of blue. i should really make another study post speaking about this more in depth, but i've always interpreted it to be a memento the same way teba and saki's feathers on tulin's quiver are! in tulin's time, this might mean, "these people are always with me." in revali's time, on the brink of a calamity, i imagine it might mean, "( if i fall, you who finds me, ) i belonged with these people."
And yet when Teba & Tulin show up- there is this subtle change on him(?) I wished the game had dwelled a bit more on Teba and Revali. Seeing their interactions was always interesting and in a way, Teba seemed to understand the rito champion. While I felt Teba was that friend or even family member(?) that Revali needed in a way or I could be just over reading, ahaha sorry. But sincerely, I always felt Teba & Tulin were that family or friends- that in a way Revali needed and it makes me think so hard on the "What ifs" and "What could have been"...
what i wouldn't have given for more content and interactions between these three as well!! it's especially fascinating to think about it from teba's side — there is so much recontextualising he has to do and does do about revali, because the one he's grown up idolising and hearing Songs about is uh. well, he's certainly there in the revali he meets, but i doubt he's really prepared for things like how painfully young he is.
he handles it very well honestly asfklsdjg i would not have taken to the realisation that my champion is a warrior hardened only by constant work and the battles he throws himself into, and kind of a fucking brat because he's like the 18yo who thinks being 18 is a decade away from being 17, and died distressingly young back in my timeline with the same grace he gives when he says — of the entire wild experience that is aoc — "this has been enlightening".
you are not over-reading, do not be sorry fr!! i do think revali found an opportunity for companionship in teba that he couldn't find anywhere else when he's built relationships and dynamics he can't change because he has an image to uphold! teba already comes with a dire respect for revali, the knowledge that his story does not end nicely, AND HE'S AN ACTUAL DAD. that sort of thing can bleed into your behaviour and the way you process things without meaning to asflkdjgs
THE BIGGEST MOOD!! wow i'm so glad writers ( it's me, i'm writers ) can create literally anything they want and so can explore these what ifs and what could have beens and give a resolution to a story cut short. this is what my the champions survive au is all about, i hope to have you stay long enough to see these things come out of it ♡
As for the Flight Range & Saki's dialogue; I've always been emo about the F.Range specially when you walk in and hear his theme playing in this music box style... it's like part of his soul is also there but that flame that burnt passionately has subdued and waits to pass to torch to the next generation. In ToTK it made me cry- specially when Kaneli comments (when you pick the bow, arrows) how they been collecting dust... But on the bright side, made me happy that even with the damages- they still hold dearly to the place and is currently being used as training grounds for flight. Which... is what Revali wanted for his people for them to reach the sky and break the limits (or that how I interpreted it).
AUGH EXACTLY, YOU GET IT!! 😭 he never gave it his name but it'll always be his! it's the most melancholic we ever get to hear his theme, full of the wistful yearning that was definitely present but more muted in its botw version! it's lost potential. an unsaid goodbye. revali's gone. but it's also grounds for hope, a tiptoeing hello: his legacy lives on still! i will always go fucking feral over the music in these games!!
YES!! YEAH!! [HOLDING YOU BY THE SHOULDERS] he calls his journal "the diary of revali, the rito legend" BUT HE DOES NOT. GIVE THE FLIGHT RANGE LITERALLY MADE FOR HIM HIS NAME. because it was never going to be something solely for him. he loves his people, he was never going to stymie their prospects! this loser is so good at making me infuriatingly sad AUGH
Re-reading Saki's dialogue with the context you given me- hit me like a ton of bricks. Because it was a new pov. When I first read her dialogue, I took it more of a "Remembering our Champion- one we couldn't help" rather than "commemoration of what he couldn't do". But I also remembered how contrasting are Teba and Saki; Teba being a warrior with pride, reckless at times - who admired greatly Revali's feats and aspired once to surpass him. Meanwhile Saki is more calm and is concerned with the concept of engaging battle- nervous about the training her son was exposed to. So, when re-reading her dialogue I take it more of a wife and mother concerned of losing her companion/husband and son to a similar fate to Revali's.
i swear we are on the same wavelength. yes, exactly!
another thing about revali's landing that makes me so, so deliriously emo — it's a physical permanency given without request: in the best way they can afford to grant it. the rito notably have very little tangible representations of themselves. they don't have statues or effigies like the zora or gorons ( and why would they, when they have Songs and the Windlines and are also probably restricted by their morphology ), and revali does not have any family to be likened to. link remembers him through seeing the landing, which was there, a part of rito village, before it was ever deemed revali's. it wasn't made for him. but they gave it to him! and i'm!! [BLUBBERING]
Revali's love for his people and Rito Village- it breaks me. I can understand that sentiment of loving someone or something from a far (?) - Even when challenging W.Blight and listening to his lines (both english and spanish for me), one can hear that hidden sadness. It's hearing someone who wants to go back home. "But even so, it will always be my home." - the entirety of those lines really hit me so hard the first time I've heard them.
I KNOW. I KNOW. [head in hands] a century has passed and he can't fathom it. "there's no one left who would even know me." he sounds so struck by it, in both the original jpn and english audio, i want to wrap him up in a blanket and toast him like a marshmallow! how much of that is grief? how much of that is longing? how much of that is some strange solace, in knowing he's alone but there's nothing he could've done about it this time?
Also, it makes me glad seeing a Tulin who can see the good in Revali- even if the champion can have a bit of a thorn like exterior. I've read some of the threads! They been wonderful and brought me a lot of joy. It makes me happy to see Tulin taking flight and moving forward. When you mention your student-disciple, are you referring to Kido? I know there were two names but I've lost the post with the cups. I would love to hear about them all!
thank you!! it heartens me to know that you've dipped into some of my ic writing too! i hope you'll continue to enjoy your stay here!! ♡♡
SLFKJKSDLG SO I'VE CHANGED IT IN THE POST NOW, but i meant master-disciple! apologies for the confusion!! kido is an original character of mine who would actually rather fall into totori lake than be revali's student alfjsdkg but that's how it be when you're a kid with a complex, turned-less-than-pleasant background with the concept of revali. if you're interested and up for it, please do give his dossier and study tag a peek! this is by no means a request that you do; it's totally fine if you leave him be!
There so many questions and facts, I would love to talk about... but as I scrolled up- I noticed this is becoming a long one. I am so sorry. I'd been trying to simplify and cut a bit ;-; Plus, I know this blog is a multiverse but focused on Tulin and I don't want to bother. So once again, thank you so much for taking your time in answering these asks. If anything if you ever do the academic-paper length study on lonely birb, I'll run over to read it X'D !!! But I'd been enjoying everything of the meta- the studies on rito's culture and behaviour. Also been curious on your views on Kass taking the role of a bard... Yeah, looking forward to keep reading. Thank you once again.
please, never be sorry for giving me your thoughts, no matter how long they end up being!! i mean it! i enjoyed reading through every line, it means a lot to me that you'd take the time and energy to send something of this scale to me ♡ you did not bother and will not bother, i promise! any of my muses are up for discussion, and so are their people in general! i have an itch to talk about these birds at all times, lurkers like you give me a great scratch ♡
one more time, thank you for your kind words!! i'm so happy to know that my thoughts are received this well!!
KASS MY BELOVED. i'm not sure if you've seen my study on what Songs, Songkeepers, and Scriptweavers are, but if you have, then here's some paraphrased disco ramblings on my Thoughts on him! with how important a role he played in keeping and invoking memories of the champions in botw's dlc, i'm of the belief that he's rito village's primary Songkeeper! ahaha, on this note ( and this is more of a fun roleplaying easter egg than anything ): my botw verse is named Song of the Reclamation — i keep the headcanon that kass, specifically, writes this Song after the game's events tucked away with other misc. details that inform how i run things here :)
this is already long enough, so i think i'll end it here asfljkd but feel free to bounce your thoughts off me anytime! this has been an absolute pleasure, looking forward to seeing you in the inbox again whenever you drop by! thank you!! ♡

Teba and Saki have those parent instincts on Lock. And not just for all four of them but Riju, Yonobo, Revali, and Mipha and Sidon (despite those last two having an actual Dad around.) (Granted they aren't really the 'Primary' parents but still, they will be that older Mom/Dad friend and they will make you feel bad for lying to them. Or for teaching Tulin new swear words.) Daruk is also Dad and Urbosa have achieved Peak Wine Mom/Aunt vibes. And I'm throwing in Dorephan too. He tends to Dad the Champions and Sages too. (*holds him up* I just think he's neat.)
Champ calls him Dad exactly once and Dorephan is in tears. He's so happy with his soon-as-Sidon-Gets-His-Act-Together-son-in-law and He straight up adores his feral in-laws who scare the crap out out of Muzu and their sole source of sense who seeks him out for tea and talks.
The Four lost their parents in the Calamity and came out with a whole pack of parental figures.
Speaking of losing people, I feel Aaliyah more than Sage but he still gets it too occasionally, they also have issues with separating these Champions with the ones who died. Again nothing is held against them, but it still takes everyone a second to readjust when a memory one person has doesn't entirely sync up with another person's memory.
but lets not get distracted by the SadnessTM.
Aaliyah is not literally chained to a bed for the duration of her pregnancy but it is a damn near thing. She's chewing on everyone, left and right. Sage especially.
Tia will abuse both her magic and her surprising buffness to cart off her idiots. They drives her crazy and just wants five minutes, but they are her idiots at the end of the day.
Aaliyah is the favourite purely because she's the only one who stays to listen. Champ just clamped his hands over his ears like a kid (which fair. thats his Person and ew.) while Sage just about turns straight out of the door (which rude. She listened to all your pining!) And they wonder why Aaliyah gets an inch more leeway than they do.
Aaliyah just straight up YEETING the contraceptive into First's face and yelling about she doesn't want to hear shit anymore is hysterical to me because none of the three would have any idea. And Tia is left to awkwardly straight-faced explain that while she appreciates them respecting protocol and all that jazz, please at least hold her hand and stop leaving room for Hylia. Hylia aint done shit for her. And while they don't have to take her straight to her room and leave her boneless for the rest of the day, a little defilement never hurt anyone. Please she will beg if she has too. She did not spend 100 years holding back Ganon just to get cockblocked by her position as Queen. She will wait until marriage if that's what they're comfortable with but, please stop treating her delicately all the fucking time.
(Tia blames Hylia and potentially Sky's Zelda because if she hadn't gotten laid and started the Royal Lineage, then Tia wouldn't be getting cockblocked now.)
(I feel Twilight would be the one to finally snap out of the three since he wasn't raised with the strict rules of Knighthood/ Court Life and just draaaags Tia into his lap before kissing the breath out of her. It's only when Tia dazedly says that on her wedding night, he can have her first that the other two snap into action. Cause ruffled is a very good look on her and they aren't going down without a fight.)
That's probably when the hickeys start showing up and Aaliyah immediately starts going no-filter, Not Safe For Minors, gritty details about her three boys. Tia takes it gracefully (if with a little help from some wine because that's still one of her brothers and because she has memories of exactly what they all get up to in private against her will).
Aaliyah enlists Wild and Cal to help her distract Sage and Champ. Tia is regrettably informed of exactly how Aaliyah enlisted them.
SORRY IM LATE-
Teba and Saki have been training for this <3 They somehow go from having one kid to at least eight. (Dorphan is just another unfortunate parent in all of this FOFBF) They need parents all around to corral the children for a regular bed time. At this point, they are all on the straight in narrow lest they be subject to The Look. Yk the one? Daruk is the dad that's always hugging them and saying how proud he is FNOFBNF Urbosa is the wine mom that talks shit about your classmates with you. (he is so neat) Dorephan absolutely paretns them as well. It's just the dad in him.
Champ is never allowed to call him anything else from that point on. It was a trap all along. He brought Dorephan two new kids what are you talking about? Sure they bite a little but Muzu has been blissfully quiet since they showed up. So who is he to complain? Especially when Tia comes with them.
LITERALLY THOUGH- These guys are like reverse imprinting on EVERYONE-
Aaliyah for sure does, especially with the Sheikah of Tia's time. She is such a shaky person that it makes it hard sometimes to remember that she's...safe, I guess. That these people aren't out to get her. That she'll be okay. When something doesn't line up, you bet it takes a second to just...recombobulate. Sage does it too, but Aaliyah has to catch herself much more often.
FBFBF They have the potential for so much sadness it's actually kind of funny. But actually kinda sad.
THEY GET DAMN NEAR CLOSE. NFKONBF Sage contemplates buying a muzzle for a half second because he's probably covered in bitemarks. Like even before she's pregnant, I imagine they could just be like...cuddling and she'll just nibble on a nipple. snack on a tit pec. yk? When she's pregnant, now it's just a form of 'How fucking dare you attempt to chain me up.
Tia being the wrangler is so funny to me nifbf The only reason she hasn't suplexed their ass is bc they are her idiots.
Aaliyah being the favorite will now just live rent free in my brain bc you KNOW Champ is bitter about it, but he just cannot bring himself to listen to it. Sage has no patience for it. At all. He doesn't have it for fungus, so he won't have it for Tia. The only reason he has patience for Aaliyah is bc...well, c'mon, that's aaliyah. That's his girl yk? It's different when it comes to her.
That will not stop them from bitterly glaring at Aaliyah when she rubs it in.
Aaliyah is so done with all of their shit. Doesn't even stick around to explain what it is. She's in and then she's gone to find Sage because she doesn't wanna THINK about anything anymore. Tia is begging at this point for them to do something. Hell, she'll do it if they don't. She did not spend a hundred years waiting for something only for nothing. So either step up or step back. Like, just hold her hand just a little.
(Good people to blame. Bc c'mon. Aaliyah doesn't have to wait. She doesn't have to get cockblocked by no one. Tia is only a little jealous.)
(Twi for sure would be. Idk, it's the country boy in him. He's just a little more ruggish than the others, okay <3 He was holding back because knight one and two told him too, but if the lady wants it, the lady gets it. He's smiling like a maniac when she says that, hogging her bc they snost and they lost. )
Aaliyah is taking this as a challenge. Those two say some of the most downright vile, toe gripping, sheet slicking, gut churning things all with a straight face. These girls have no shits given. (Okay a little shits given, but it's easily fixed with wine. FBKBF It's a mess all around)
Aaliyah being the best girlboss she can be fr fr. Tia can never look at them the same way again.

//Top ten other Zelda characters you would like to see as fallers? Asking for a friend
((... oh dear christ this is gonna be a THING HUH??? Okay uh... hmm.
Let me be frank. I'm biased here. I like characters with a lotta pull in the plot. Side-characters... nnnyeh, not so much? So I hope this list includes someone you've been thinkin' about. Also this list is not in order. I would love any of the below... okay maybe Linebeck, Navi or Skull Kid are at the lowest priority but I just wrote these as they came to my mind I'm sorry--
Tulin. My boy. Tulin. My son. Tulin. I love this child with my whole heart and the BOY is my BOY and this BOY is the BOOOOOY. He would do so damn good in a Pokemon setting. My only gripe is that he'd kiiiinda prolly not be all that happy. Unless he ended up with Link/Lianka. He'd be chill then.
Revali. However. This has a giant asterisk attached: because there's ALREADY A REVALI BLOG. So I can and will suggest they smash into each other at mach 3 and make things start happening. If there wasn't? I would put him at 1. No joke. Him and Lianka being actual rivals would be fantastic, genuinely, it would fit so PERFECTLY. He's honestly my favorite of the four Champions... at least the Japanese characterization of him that isn't... kind of a dick, the localization team did him a bit dirty imo.....
Ganondorf. This man... this goddamn man. He just steals the show any game he's in, doesn't he? Ocarina of Time? A basic interpretation, but a THREATENING one. Wind Waker? THE HIGHLIGHT. OF. THE GAME. Twilight Princess? Shows up at the VERY END and proves he is every bit the force he's portrayed as (final boss being cheeseable notwithstanding). Tears of the Kingdom? My fuckin' guy. My. Fucking. GUY. HE KICK... SO MUCH ASS........... perfect villain blog character, GOD he'd be so good.
Ganondorf, but NOT EVIL. Or, perhaps, reformed in some way! I want you to blame Growing Up Gerudo for me becoming enamored with the idea of a Ganondorf that breaks the cycle of hatred Demise forced upon him. The internal AND external turmoil that could cause, the feeling of loathing for himself and those that harmed him at odds. My man in Wind Waker wasn't as clear-cut as you think. He WAS evil, despite the "coveting that wind" excuse he gave. But what if he was being SINCERE--
Navi. She deserves a chance. She does! Don't you tell me she doesn't! She is not annoying, she was their very first attempt at a companion that could help! My girl got done dirty by the fanbase and if she ended up capable of being a Trainer or Eebydeebied and needed some help? I'd be all for that. Girl's a floating encyclopedia anyhow, she'd be perfect for Pokedex research.
Skull Kid. POST-MAJORA'S MASK. Let them have their character development. They are allowed a happy ending as a treat, okay? Besides! We already have a "Shady Mask Anon", so like... c'mon. It fits better than you think.
Linebeck. The sniveling, cowardly "real man of the seas" himself. My guy is absolutely deserving of a good, great, FANTASTIC delve into potentially no longer being a sniveling, cowardly, actual real man of the seas. Prolly in Hoenn, considering things!
Urbosa. If I had to pick a non-Rito champion, her. OR... OOOOOORRRRRR... for much the same reason?
Riju. Both of these girls deserve all the time in the limelight, and I adore both of them as characters. Strong, commanding women with literal lightning powers? H'oh. They can kick SO much ass.
Tetra. My favorite Zelda. The game did her dirty by shafting her into a role of just being a damsel in distress the moment she learned who she was. She deserves to be a fuckin' Pirate Queen. She deserves every damn chance to be a swashbuckling, secretly caring, absolute badass of a hero as much as anyone else.))

Bestie I’m curious now 👀 how would you rank the champions and sages? Fav to least fav ofc
Also it’s me Kit again hello 👋
hi kit!! ofc i’d love to 😌
1. urbosa, 1000% my favorite character from the botw era. she’s just so interesting, especially with her connection to zelda (calling her little bird is the cutest thing ever 🥺). as for her ability, c’mon now she can summon lightning by snapping her fingers thats so badass, not to mention her swordsmanship 😮‍💨
2. riju, SHES MY BABY MY DAUGHTER, i loved seeing how much she matured between botw to totk. from having been thrown into the command of a whole race at age 12 to a badass sage of lightning in her later teens, she’s so likable and fun to be around (also patricia is iconic pls)
3. mipha, she’s just so tragic, having accepted the role of champion because of her love for link (the detail of the description in totk of the zora armor where it explains it’s tradition a wife would make the armor for her husband, confirming that mipha really wanted to be with link one day if she survived the calamity)
4. mineru, she’s just so cool, i love how she’s very into creating new technology (and that may be lowkey the reason i ship her with purah 😭✋🏻). also she sounds hot i will admit fjjfjd
5. tulin, MY SON, the happy face he has when he first sees link again in totk 😭😭 while it would have been cool to have teba too, i appreciate they went with the route of tulin being the sage
6. sidon, now talk about a pansexual KING 😌 fjdjd i felt for him during botw, he’s the only one to have actually known one of the champion first hand, and his sister to add onto that - his need to prove himself (that we also see in aoc) and his desire to not let anyone else he cares about die like she did is such a perfect driver for his character
7. revali, that annoying lil bird twink (affectionate) 😭✋🏻 i know a lot of people don’t like him because he’s an asshole but based on other ritos designs, it might actually be because he was still a very young adult when everything went down, so no wonder he’s a little shit compared to teba jdjd
8. duruk, he seemed like a chill dude who loves to watch link eat rocks fjdjdj i don’t feel particularly either way for him, just want to thank him for saving my ass with his champion ability lmao
9. yunobo, i know he doesn’t mean any harm but god is he annoying with all the whining in botw 😭 he gets a bit better in totk but still isn’t my favorite of the bunch

@ivory-coronet I've kept playing TotK and oh my god do you want to hear literally every thought out of my head on the topic?
BEWARE OF TOTK SPOILERS ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE
First I love all the little newspaper quests they're silly but they're fun and it's pretty nice going everywhere doing random shit that in like a third of cases are just the Yiga trying to fuck with you. I'd say Penn is useless but actually I think we're splitting the work pretty well: I do all the fieldwork and he writes the articles and gives them to Traysi! Great partnership. I just need the Gerudo Stable and I'll be done, but Ihope you can do stuff with him once the questline is over.
Also I can't help but notice you have way more of an impact on the world in a way? The NPCs remember you, they know who you are more often, I saw the two horse researchers and since I'd already talked to Malanya I got to tell the one who was interested in him that he did indeed exist, it's really really cool. And the rebuilding quests!! The Rito Village bridge! The Lookout Landing mini-stable!! The monster-control crew stuff!!! I really feel like I'm not just doing random sidequests for a reward but that I'm actually contributing to the world and the world knows it.
On the topic of the Wind Temple: it was great, you were right it didn't feel like an annoying dungeon! More like a traditional dungeon but not annoying like they usually are to me. It took me uuuh humiliatingly long to realise you had to use Tulin's gusts of wind on the turbines even though the Sage just straight up tells you to do that lol. The Sages stuff is incredible and I'm absolutely delighted by the fact that I've done a quarter of what was the main quest in BotW but I still don't know what's going to happen at the end of the game. In BotW you just knew where the final boss was and how things would more or less go from the end of the tutorial but here I'm still kind of at a loss. Like there's the Sages but there's also the Depths and the ruins in Kakariko! That said one of my friends who's also playing it said he stumbled upon the Mastersword and the final boss at random just exploring so uh. That must have been weird.
Plus on the topic of the Rito I need to be insane about this to as many people as possible because I was a Revalink kinda girl and I won't forget my roots: when Tulin gets the Great Eagle Bow after the temple... Babe that's MY bow!!! Give it to me it's MINE!!! It does 3x28 damage and it has a great design!!! I got it by beating the dungeon and saving your village almost alone last time!!!! I knew Revali and I wam/am a Champion too!!!!!! IT'S MY BOW GIVE IT BAAACK!!! Make your OWN bow Tulin!!!!! No for real I would be so happy to make a new group for the Sages and Link and make some fabric we can all wear and he can put it on his own bow someone made for him/helped him make but you gotta hand that back baby it's mine!!!!!!
Also I've been to see the Zoras as well and I'm at the entrance of the temple but not there yet so I won't say anything about the dungeon itself but 1) god Sidon.... dreamy sigh. Also 2) Yona isn't that ugly people are just mean. She's great she's sweet and she grew on me real fast. And 3) I really do not care about Finley's appearance relating to her quest in BotW I think it's some fun background stuff but I'm disappointed they didn't give her an older model like they did for Kass' kids. Like she's been waiting for that growth spurt for years now Nintendo just let her gain a few inches!!
Anyway what I want to talk about is the way they handled BotW's existence & a little bit its themes, which I personally think is the biggest flaw of the game. No mention of the Divine Beasts no mention of the towers or the shrines there's some stuff about the Calamity but it's rare I'm sooo mad like I was there for all of it!!! Why are you not saying anything!!!! We can't be forgetting history like three-five years after it happened!! I know they didn't want new players to the franchise to be lost but it's offensive Purah doesn't mention Sheikah tech when explaining the towers it's offensive the Zora chest armour's description just goes 'made by a Zora princess for her future husband' like the Zora princess in question wasn't Link's childhood best friend and he wasn't supposed to be the future husband it's offensive there's no mention of Revali anywhere except the landing is still called Revali's Landing when he had extremely similar powers to Tulin and Teba spent his childhood talking about the legendary champion to him and he has his damn bow in his back!!!!!! I'm so mad!!!! Why Nintendo why!!!
And when I said themes I meant that I'm sad the Sages are all descendants of the original Sages. Cause see the new champions all occupied the same roles as the old champions (greatest Rito warrior, Zora royalty, Gerudo chief, Goron boss (to be)) but while the others all were descendants of the OGs Teba wasn't. It said something about the characters and their villages and what they all valued. And now we're totally forgetting Revali when he's relatively recent (100 years compared to like 5 000) and had similar powers because "what if the player hasn't played BotW". Honestly it made me feel like the shitty 180 the Star Wars sequels pulled with Rey where the message was that whoever her family was didn't matter because she got to decide her own path and - oh wait no her grandpa was Palpatine it was always meant to be fuck off. Like none of them need to be related to the OG Sages but if Sidon or Riju are it's at least coherent with the fact their tribes (?) both seem to have a hereditary thing going on with their leadership. But Tulin really doesn't!! The Ritos don't work like that!! The point was hard work!!! I'm so mad about this one. Note that I don't say anything about Daruk and Yunobo because Yunobo is sweet but Daruk's personality is flatter than a sheet of paper in BotW, especially compared to AoC. I guess at least Mipha's statue is still there and they namedrop her once really badly :)))
Anway I also went to the Depths because I need that camera and it caused me worse stress than walking around Central Hyrule at the start of BotW. So. Not hyped to have to go there more.
There that's it I think but if you have more stuff to chat about don't hesitate to answer or to hit me up 👀 👀👀

Note
gimme those Champion successor headcanons pretty please
Sidon:
The length of the century affected Sidon’s grief regarding his sister’s death. He had to admit to himself, privately, that without her statue he probably wouldn’t be able to remember her face.
Sidon was only angry and sad for a few decades. With the kingdom’s hopes suddenly put onto his shoulders in the absence of his sister, Sidon tried to accelerate his grieving process. His grief became a lot more abstract as he grew older, but with Vah Ruta remaining ever-present, his happiness always felt stained. When the torrential rains began it only worsened, though he remained optimistic for the sake of his people. His grief, then, became less about repression and more about rememberance.
It utterly baffles him how Link’s return brought back his emotions tenfold. With Link’s face came memories of his sister, and suddenly he can remember her more easily now than fifty years ago. He finds himself talking out loud, talking to no one, until he realizes that he’s talking to Mipha, wherever she may be. Still. With Link here, at least Mipha’s sacrifice won’t be completely in vain. He reminds himself of that every day.
Riju:
This girl knows full fucking well that she isn’t fit for the title of Chief. Hardly so. She’s aware that her people are hesitant to trust her judgement, and she would be too, if there were a child in charge. She suffers so, so heavily from Impostor Syndrome, and when she speaks she mentally berates herself, able to hear how childish she sounds to others.
She talks out loud too, but for her it’s mostly to herself. “Why me? Why me, why me, why me.” This only escalates when Vah Naboris goes on a rampage and the Yiga Clan begins acting up once again. To try to quell all of the negative self-talk that continues in her brain on autopilot, she journals a lot, mostly mantras that boil down to, “You’re okay, you’re doing okay, you’re doing your best”.
What she really longs for is friendship, which she doesn’t have with anyone other than Patricia (which is, yknow, fine, but). Link was the first person she had seen in a long while who was close to her in age, relatively speaking. She secretly wants to know him better, and hopes that he might know how to deal with kingdom-wide pressures, as he has quite the destiny to shoulder. The irony here, of course, is that he doesn’t know how to deal with these things either - he’s just as lost as she is, and she understands that after a while.
Teba:
This man is only happy thanks to his family, and he’s self-aware enough to admit that.
The pressure Teba experiences is mostly self-applied. He truly does look up to Champion Revali as inspiration, wanting to model his skills and make them his own. Perhaps Tulin can look up to him in the same way, which would make him incredibly proud.
Saki tries to make sure that her husband gets enough sleep, which Teba sometimes forgets. Occasionally he’ll be at the flight range throughout the night practicing, and he loses track of time. This frustrates Saki, so he’s attempting to take better care of himself.
He was surprised at how aimless he felt after Vah Medoh’s defeat. Link left, and Teba felt like his purpose had dissolved as well. What to do now? Medoh had been terrorizing the skies since before he was a chick. He’s still trying to figure out how to handle peace. He doesn’t suffer from PTSD, though he does have an abstract, irrational fear that Medoh as a threat will return, and not soon - what if it returns too late, and he’s too old to fight it like he used to? What if Tulin is in danger, or worse, puts himself in danger like Teba had recklessly done over and over again? Saki shares these worries - he is endlessly thankful for his wife.
Yunobo:
Similar to Riju, The Impostor Syndrome Is Strong With This One. Yunobo is...incredibly aware that once the Chieftan passes, it will be his turn to lead, and that terrifies him. He knows he could handle it, eventually, but...gosh, eventually is gonna be forever from now. How long will it take until he’s old and wise like Daruk had been? When will he be able to fight like his ancestor had done to defend their people?
Yunobo tries to be smart about it - he’s grown accustomed to taking walks around the city, talking to the people, trying to really get to know everyone. He’s hoping this’ll make him more comfortable becoming a leader...he understands Link’s impulse to run errands now.
While he does worry, Yunobo has an incredible amount of faith in the people of Hyrule. He sees the best in people, and he knows that Link has all the skill necessary (more so!) to defeat this Ganon thing. He’s looking forward to a world of peace, finally.

@revalinkexchange thank you for allowing me to participate in the exchange, and I apologize to both you and my giftee (lol thats not a word but idc right now)
@umbreonix this is the piece I wrote for you and for my entry into the exchange. before you read, I just want to say I thought your username looked familiar, and that your fanfics are some of my favorites on AO3.
happy valentine's day!!! :)) <3
For: Umbreonix
Revali complains the entire way there, but Link knows it’ll be worth it. The rito barely leaves his roost at night anymore, let alone the village. He even has a hammock set up in the Flight Range for the days time slips past him and it’s dark before he’s finished. It started after his battle with Windblight Ganon.
Link, however, prefers the night. Everything feels much more alive at night, despite the skeletal monsters that pop out of the ground. The point of this trip isn’t to fight, although Link is starting to believe Revali would prefer that, but to see Dinraal. Maybe after this, he can convince the rito warrior to come out and see the other dragons as well, but Dinraal is the easiest to get close to.
“Why are we all the way out here? To see some bones?” Revali asks, rolling his eyes as he crosses his wings, making his disapproval and annoyance well known.
Because you won’t talk to me unless you’re sure everyone else can’t hear. Link signs, chuckling a bit as he rushes to gather wood for their fire. He ends up needing to cut down a tree, and when the tree falls, he quickly bundles some of the wood in some string so that it’s easier to carry. He looks up to the sky and smiles, night will come soon enough.
“ We have one heart to heart and suddenly you think that we’re- A picnic? You brought me out here for a stupid picnic?!” Revali asks, staring at Link in disbelief as Link proceeds to bring out food he made beforehand.
Not stupid. Link signs, scowling at the rito before turning back to his bag. Revali, thankfully, takes that as a cue to shut up, and Link starts to set up their fire. Revali watches him in confusion before Link points to the sky. Only then does Revali realize that it is nearly nightfall. He immediately begins protesting again, saying that if they’re not back at the village before dark that the elder will be worried.
I told him we’d be back late.
“If I stay too long, sand will get in my feathers!”
I’ll help you get the sand off if that’s what you’re worried about.
“I usually turn in early, this little adventure of yours is going to cost me my sleep schedule and-”
Revali, I won’t force you to stay, but I’d like you to. Link finally signs, feeling a slight blush warm his face. He brushes it off, convincing himself that it’s the weather. They are awfully close to Death Mountain after all.
“You want me to stay? All I’ve done is complain! How on Hylia’s green earth can you still tolerate me after today?!” Revali argues, frustrated. He’s shaking slightly, and Link can tell that it’s worse than it looks.
You’re scared. Link signs pointedly. Revali squawks, feathers puffing up slightly.
“You’re absolutely ridiculous. Me? Scared? Ha!” The rito manages after he recovers. Link doesn’t believe him for a second, making that known by an eye roll, and goes back to starting the fire. There’s a moment of silence, which tells the Hylian that something is wrong. Revali is never silent. Not off the battlefield anyway, he likes his presence being known.
If you’re that scared, then we can leave. Link signs with a sigh. It’s then that Revali flies over to the Hylian, much too quickly for Link to dodge with his guard down, and tackles him into the sand. By now the sun has set, leaving the sand glistening in the moonlight. Revali is too caught up in his feelings and his battle with Link to care. A flash of orange pulls them from their tussle and they both stop very suddenly. Revali pinning Link to the sand, his heart feeling like it’s going to leave his chest, or come up his throat, or something of the like. His vision starts to spin before he realizes that he’s not breathing. He can’t move. He’s back on Medoh with Windblight Ganon. He’s going to die. Again.
Link jumps into action immediately, freeing his arms and grabbing onto Revali like he’d disappear if he let go. In hindsight, the fiery dragon wasn’t the best of choices. At least there’s nothing shining that deathly blue. Revali, now shaking uncontrollably, gives into the touch and tries to ground himself. When he stops shaking, he looks up to see the orange dragon weaving through the air. It’s beautiful.
“L-Look,” Revali stammers, voice shaking though, his body stopped, “is this what we came here for?” He asks. Link lifts his head from Revali’s shoulder and looks up at Dinraal before looking back at Revali and nodding furiously.
Dinraal. Link spells through sign.
“The dragons are very uncommon to see nowadays, despite the Calamity having passed. There’s no conventional way to get here, so this place is about as hidden as can be.” Revali thinks aloud. He then notices that Link has started subconsciously toying with Revali’s feathers despite keeping his eyes on the dragon. If the Rito were to think about it, he’d say the scene is almost… intimate. He’s definitely not thinking about it. Not at all.
Food and fire forgotten, the two watch Dinraal until it disappears into the starry night sky, and Revali feels oddly at peace, not that he’ll ever admit it. After letting out a sigh, Revali turns to Link to find him still situated on his lap and staring right back at him. His eyes are like clear water, Revali thinks. He’s never liked getting wet very much, but he’s always thought it was beautiful. He supposes the same could be said for Link.
“Rev- R- Revali.” Link says, trying his hardest not to mess up saying the warrior’s name. Revali’s eyes widen as he hears Link’s voice. It’s a bit scratchy from underuse, but for some reason that fits the knight well.
“So you can speak.” Revali says jokingly. He still gets punched in the chest, but not hard enough to really hurt. The atmosphere changes so quickly that Link swears he gets whiplash, but he’s not upset about it. He enjoys the playful banter he can have with Revali. He prefers it to their bickering, although that’s fun as well.
“Not well.” Link says, voice just a bit clearer. It makes Revali’s heart skip a beat, but he’s not a fledgling anymore, so he manages to control his “puffing” as Tulin calls it.
“Your voice is… nice.” Revali says, although it comes out sarcastic (to save face) he truly means it. He gets another punch to the chest and Link starts to laugh.
Some of us were taught to be seen and not heard. Link jokes.
“And you do that very well.” Revali laughs. Link finally stands up, and Revali finds that he liked the weight of the Hylian boy on him. It’s comforting. Revali watches as Link begins to pack up their forgotten picnic and Revali shakes his thoughts away before standing to help Link pack things up.
Do you want to try flying, or should I use the slate? Link signs. Revali thinks for a moment before he answers.
“I think I’ve had enough excitement tonight. I can try flying at night another time.”

Dadvali headcanons
Ok, so these are my headcanons for my Dadvali AU. In this AU, Revali is Teba and Kass’ dad. If I make more, I’ll make another post.
So, now that that’s out of the way, LET’S AGO (It’s really been too long since I’ve made a headcanon post)
Every single species in Hyrule is able to live as long as 100 years
Every single species in Hyrule is also able to reproduce asexualy if so desired, no matter the gender. That’s what Revali did to make and lay his sons’ eggs
Kaneli is Revali’s older brother by three years. Harth is also Kaneli’s only son
Teba is ten minutes older then Kass, despite this Kass is a little bigger
Harth is three years older then both of them
Once they became old enough, Revali began personally training Teba and Kass. He taught them how to fly first, then he taught them archery
Instead of Revali’s motivation being that he wanted to be well known, in this universe his motivation is to make sure Teba and Kass are safe
When they were still hatchlings, Revali would actually sing Teba and Kass lullabies to calm them down and get them to sleep. Link was the only one who knew
Since the champions often visit each other’s homes, he boys have opinions on each of them (completely sperate from Revali’s). Their least favorite is big, loud Daruk who scares them
The boys are best friends with Sidon, they were quite the trouble makers growing up
Kass was actually mute growing up. Revali thought it was because he was just shy, but doctors said there was a chance he might ever talk. Because of this, Link taught him how to speak sign language and taught Teba how to understand it. Kass still signs when he gets too upset to talk
Teba is actually blind, but you better believe that won’t slow him down. Because of his advanced hearing, it actually makes him a better warrior. He and Kass use this to their advantage since Kass has to sign into Teba’s hand inorder for them to talk to each other, so it was a great way to keep things between each other
To no one’s surprise, little Teba wanted to be just like Revali. So much to a point that he willingly ran off when monster attacks happened to watch and maybe even help, dragging poor Kass over protective cousin Harth behind
Revali always saves them and reprimands him for doing this. However, one time Teba and Kass were running away from a monster and tricked it into tripping over a rock and knocked it out. Needless to say, Dadvali was proud
Teba and Kass call Revali papa. After being around Link, who also taught and took care of them just as much as Revali, they started calling him dad. Link was really surprised but Revali was surprisingly cool with it (Yes Revalink is a thing in this AU)
Kass always wanted to be musician but he hid this fact from Revali thinking he’d be disappointed. Despite never telling him, Revali actually knew (Teba is terrible at keeping secrets) but knew Kass would tell him when he was ready
It was actually Revali who asked the castle’s minstrel (who I have named Ongaku) if he could teach Kass to play an instrument and possibly sing since he was getting better at talking
Despite Kass being the skittish one, Teba was the one who often had nightmares. Most of them consisted of watching Revali die. They unfortunately got worse after the Ganon incident, especially with Revali no longer there to comfort him
When Vah Medoh disappeared with Revali, Teba kept running down to the Landing and trying to fly away to find him, not caring if he died as a result. The only thing that got him to stop was Kaneli telling him that he would leaving Kass behind, who wouldn’t even leave his room
When Vah Medoh reappeared, Teba went to find Kass, who left to travel only a month before, to ask him for his help. Kass refused, knowing that Link would surely awaken soon and would require Ongaku’s songs to help him. They got into a huge fight that ended with Teba telling Kass without thinking that Revali would be disappointed and flying away
Harth tried to stop Teba from going after Vah Medoh by asking him what would Revali and Kass think. Teba just said that Revali would probably do the same thing and that Kass is an adult and can take care of himself
When they met Link after he woke up, they both knew it was the same one they called dad. Kass didn’t say anything until he sang his teacher’s last song because he knew Link didn’t remember. Teba was really upset that Link didn’t remember, and was a little cold when they first met. Teba eventually warmed up after Medoh was defeated
Once the Champions Ballad started, Teba and Kass met up for the first time since their fight weeks prior. Teba immediately apologized to his little brother, even telling him that Revali actually knew about his love for music. Kass had already forgiven him
As soon as Ganon was defeated, the first thing Revali did after his soul being free was check on Teba and Kass. He’s so proud of the Ritos they grew up to be and was also pretty happy to learn he was a grandpa
Link eventually remembered and was really apologetic towards Teba and Kass when he did. It was also kinda awkward considering Link was technically younger then them. That doesn’t exactly stop them from calling him dad on occasion
Bonus;  Kheel, Notts, Kotts, Cree, Genli, and Tulin call Revali grandpa and after learning that Teba and Kass call Link dad, they started calling him gramdad

Okay, so this might seem REALLY, REALLY weird, but do you have any, like headcanons for Ritos? Like, not just Revali, but Ritos. Flying mechanics. Their opinions on Medoh. Do you think they lay eggs? Or what? Because that's something I've been debating for a looooong time
Oooooo you bet I have Rito Headcanons. Prepare yourselves, mortals! Here are
General Rito Headcanons:
The Rito can fucking fly, I don’t care what BS the game says about updrafts and gliding. They are birds, they have wings and feathers, we have seen characters like Teba and Kass fly around and gain altitude and stuff. The updrafts help them, but they can fly on their own. They don’t glide, they can fly, end of story, I don’t take criticism, I’ll die on this hill.
To add to that, I think that they can’t gain height very quickly. They either need a long runway or stretch of land (kinda like a plane) to achieve height at an angle over time. Or, they start at an already elevated position (like the landings in Rito village) and gain height that way.
So the reason Revali’s Gale is so useful, is because he can get super high up, very quickly, at anytime. It’s not dependent on his surroundings and such
And it’s also useful because it give him more airtime to shoot his bow and stuff
Rito Stable has a lot of lumber lying around, and there’s a bunch of axes and piles of wood there from the forest. I like to think that the Rito trade with them for supplies, considering all their equipment, weaponry, and houses are made of wood. (given that metal stuff is too heavy for flight and all)
That said, they don’t take more than they need. Their culture alone is very minimalist, (given that they’re sort of based off of South American mountain tribes like the Incans) so they’re the type of people who don’t throw anything away. Ergo, they don’t trade that often, only when they need to.
I hc that a lot of the careers and jobs they take up are more artsy based. Rather than scholars, or nobles, or farmers, they have a lot of artisans. Such as weavers, carpenters, musicians, cartographers (they can fly!) and what not.
I think Amali is an architect, idk why. I just want someone to be an architect because Rito houses are so cool! Also Saki is a doctor and she and Teba met on a classic “warrior being healed” trope because I love them. And you know Teba’s a dumbass and gets himself hurt 24/7, especially when he was younger. (I mean, need I remind you he wanted to fight Medoh ALONE like what the shit man)
Also this is why Saki’s wary of Tulin being a warrior because what if he inherits Teba’s recklessness, you can’t worry your mom like that kid
Rito come from eggs. I also was struggling with this, because they’re aren’t any nests or anything…but I believe they’re birds first and foremost
Obviously I won’t go into details because this is a sfw blog, and I’m ace and have no idea how those things work, BUT they only have eggs when they want to. Having kids/eggs is a planned thing if that makes sense lmao. It’s not like chickens where they lay eggs constantly.
Opinions on Medoh: Welp, they’re not ones to immediately be on board with Sheikah technology. The Rito aren’t as ethnocentric as the Zora, but they kinda have their own air of “we don’t really need Sheikah/Hylian stuff butting into our lives.”
Also, their community is very tight knit, and they aren’t keen on the fact that the thing shot lasers at their family and friends.
However, whenever someone trusted (like Link or Teba, who basically saved their village) tells them that Medoh’s all good now, they’ll probably loosen up a bit.
OK! Last thing for this super dense post (sorry) but you know how during quarantine right now, people in Italy are just playing music out their balconies? Just to vibe with their neighbors?
So that, but for Rito music, not just Kass. People just sing out their windows, or strum their instruments over their balconies. There’s this silent agreement between them all, like “Yeah, we’re listening. Keep playing.”
(Also no one asked, but I think Kass’ Sheikah teacher [I call them Zimiri] specialized in the lute, although he was skilled in several instruments. He came to Rito village after the Calamity because he heard that the Rito are the best singers in Hyrule, and he wanted Link to hear his songs from someone with the best voice. Zimiri taught Kass the accordion because Kass was a natural at it, and he choose the instrument on purpose because it was the most lively and could be heard from far away. When Kass was little he would play his music in the heart shaped hole near the top of Rito Village for everyone to hear and be happy)
Ok I’m done blabbering bye. And by the way, this wasn’t weird at all anon! Thanks for the ask!

Sheikah Link ft. Champions
Urbosa
Urbosa knew, logically, that when sheikah were in their stealth gear, not only were they near impossible to spot due to how the clothing had been designed, the magic woven into it, but they were also quite androgenous. She didn't pay the sheikah that silently trailed the princess any mind. They guarded the princess, after all, and the princess did know the rules. When she saw them outside of the stealth suit though, wearing a bright blue tunic, it registered that the sheikah was male. And she quietly pulled them aside.
"Voe are not allowed in Gerudo Town, little sheikah." Their head tilted.
"You're correct. And as a voe, not once have I entered. There have been many times the princess has visited I have been unable to follow her in." She allowed her posture to relax.
"Ah. I apologize for the presumption, young one."
"No need. I'm sure many would try and abuse your people's hospitality for their own gain. When we do arrive at such a time as I am a voe, however, I will not enter. You have my word, Chief Urbosa." She gave them a grateful smile.
"And I shall trust your word."
Mipha
"I swear, Link, it's like you get hurt on purpose sometimes!" A gentle laugh had the zora huffing. "Don't laugh at me, you broke your wrist! For what, so you could beat that stupid course faster?"
"Yeah. Aunt Impa promised me she'd teach me how to read tea leaves if I could beat it fast enough." She gave him a flat looked, and he cleared his throat, looking away. "Maybe not the best reason, I'll admit..."
"I hope your first divination tells you to stop getting hurt." He grinned.
"So doesn't work like that."
"So don't care!"
Daruk
The goron was in the middle of dispatching the leader of the lizalfos pack when he heard one drop behind him. He swung, felt a harder than normal impact. Glanced back to see Link slipping away, and his blade thoroughly embedded in the head of the lizalfos. The sheikah's sword shone as they dispatched the minions of the Calamity. They stopped short of killing one of them though, and when Daruk, finished with the rest, moved to finish it, they stepped in front of the lizard creature.
"This one has no malice in its eyes. Preventative measures are all well and good when they won't lead to the culling of the guiltless. It was following its leader." He huffed, glaring at the lizard creature as it scurried up and away.
"Preemptive strikes are how you win without losses." They scowled a bit.
"They're also how innocents get killed, Daruk." His shoulders slumped.
"I know, I know. I just... Hate the idea of that one getting away and getting possessed and rounding up another band to try and come hassle us."
"Even if it manages it, the gorons are a lot tougher than some pack of overgrown lizards. A low chuckle, and he slapped them on the back, sending them stumbling.
"Yeah, we are." The sheikah smiled a bit. Their back already ached, they could tell it'd bruise, but at least they'd raised his spirits.
Revail
"Don't see how some sheikah got chosen to be the hero. Aren't an offshoot of your people the ones so intent on raising the thing?" He squawked in surprise as a hand grabbed his sash, yanked him down to be eyelevel with the furious sheikah.
"Call the yiga my people again and there will be consequences."
"Like what? You're going to gut me with that holy blade?"
"Hardly anything so quick. Sheikah work best in the shadows, Champion Revali." He released him, stepping back. Zelda walked down the stairs onto the landing as Revali straightened, and smiled at them.
"I apologize that took so long, the chief is quite talkative." Link gave her a small smile.
"It's quite alright, your highness. Me and the Champion of Vah Medoh were simply talking." His eyes shifted to the rito, and his smile turned sharp. "It was rather enlightening." Revali felt his heart jump. The sheikah worked best in the shadows indeed...
Riju
"Riju, you need to sleep."
"What I need is to figure out how this works!"
"Which you can do better if you're rested." She scowled a bit at them.
"You're one to talk mister I have to kill every monster in Hyrule all by myself." She noticed them flinch a bit out of the corner of her eye, and turned a bit, frowning. "Link?"
"Not, uh... Not mister. Not today, at least? I dunno, it's confusing. Just... Not a mister right now."
"Ah. Understood." He looked baffled.
"What? Just... Just like that?"
"Yes. Many people feel like neither voe or vai, some feel like both, for others it changes." Their shoulders slumped in relief, and they gave her a small smile.
"That's... Really good to hear. Thank you, Riju." She smiled back.
"Of course." She turned away, only to yelp as arms were wrapped around her waist that hoisted her up. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm not a voe, so I'm allowed in town, which means I can drag you to your room." She groaned, pushing at their arms, and, though they'd bruise later, they didn't let go.
Sidon
"Hey, fishy."
"Link!" There were two very different shouts of his name. One, feminine, appalled by the fact he'd called the prince of the zora fishy, the other male, delighted by the sight of his friend and the hero's name for him. The prince moved over, sweeping princess and hero into a crushing hug.
"It's been far too long! Both of you!"
"I was here last week."
"I've been fighting the Calamity for a hundred years." The amusement was clear in both their voices, and Sidon laughed a bit himself, setting them down.
"Time, reason, they matter little. It's been far too long. And it's very good to see you both."
"It's good to see you as well, your highness." Link smiled, watching the two rulers talk as they began to move deeper into the domain. It was nice seeing them happy.
Yunobo
"I-I dunno, Link, it's really high..."
"Very few ways to conquer fear don't involve facing it. Here, I'll go first." The sheikah launched himself off the cliff, activating Daruk's Protection as he plummeted. The first impact fractured the shield, the second bounce worsened it, and the third landing shattered it. His shield appeared beneath his feet, and he easily maneuvered himself down the mountain. He heard a slam, glanced back to see Yunobo hit the rock an bounce. His barrier didn't shateer, but vanished after a moment as Yunobo curled into a ball, letting the momentum roll him down the mountain faster than he could alone. At the bottom, Link discarded the ruined shield into the lava, and Yunobo rolled to a stop next to him a moment later. He slowly uncurled, looking around before laughing a bit.
"That was terrifying!"
"You're grinning."
"Because it was so fun!" That drew a laugh from the hero, and he patted the goron's shoulder.
"Told ya it would be. Just had to take a leap, yeah?"
"I guess. The worst part was watching you throw yourself off a cliff, though! You're so soft! You could get hurt so easily!" Link held his arms out to the sides, standing straighter, putting his shoulders back.
"And yet, I stand before you unharmed." A soft laugh, and he allowed the posture to relax. "Come on, let's head back up. I have three more shields before I'm done." Yunobo's eyes widened.
"Again...?" Laughter echoed across the mountain side.
Teba
"You're holding the arrow too tight, Tulin." The sheikah gently pressed on the offending feathers, waiting until they felt a pressure against them to pull away. "Hold too tight, the fetching hits your feathers, you throw off your shot. Now, try again." The young Rito nodded, firing at the target. It sank in off center, but closer than anything else he'd shot. He groaned nonetheless.
"Ugh! It's so hard!"
"That's why it's a skill, why great archers are praised. If it was easy, you wouldn't feel very accomplished, would you?" Tulin grumbled for a second before shaking his head.
"No. But it's really hard, Link."
"It is." They both looked over to Teba as he walked over, Tulin in surprise. Link's expression didn't change much. "Why don't you take a break, son, go help your mother for a bit." He nodded, handing the bow to Link before starting to fly back to the village. They tilted their head.
"What can I do for you, Teba?"
"I thought he needed a break, that's all. Though, having heard what you said, I am curious where you became such a font of wisdom." The sheikah chuckled softly, looking away, rubbing the back of their neck.
"From my aunt. She trained me, and she was always saying stuff like that. Hard work feels worth it only if you keep it up, achieve what you're working for. Fear can only be overcome when it's faced. You reap what you sow."
"She sounds like quite the clever woman."
"She is. Most well respected woman in the village, actually." They sat, started inspecting the bow, and, when they were satisfied, went about making arrows. "Auntie always taught me things about how to manipulate people to get what you want." A low chuckle. "She's pretty good at it, but I don't know if I ever was."
"You seem far too earnest for that." A raised eyebrow.
"You do realize that's half the trick, right? Look trustworthy and people think you are?" A snort escaped the rito.
"It's not simply that you seem trustworthy, Link. It's that your very being exudes what you feel most of the time. When you're angry, sad, happy, it rolls off you in waves. Frustration is only seen in your actions and expressions, but I've never been able to pin what's fake and what isn't." A sly smile.
"Maybe it's all fake." A small smile.
"Maybe. I doubt it, but maybe." They'd never admit how much his words warmed them, even if half of a sheikah's training was about controlling your emotions.
