Moral Equivalence
I found this “hilarious” cartoon attached to an essay entitled “No Moral Equivalence in the Middle East,” but it serves just as well as illustration of the sadly typical “liberal Russian” ruminations, below. ||| TRR Hello, dear readers! This is the Moscow Times weekly newsletter at your disposal. Let’s hope that our friends, acquaintances, relatives, and just plain Israelis survive the barbaric…

it is so disheartening seeing people being able to correctly identify and criticise the actions of russian invasion of ukraine and not be able to recognise/not giving the same scrutiny to the israeli genocide.

i wish people just stopped bringing Ukraine up whenever they talk about Palestine bc it’s always “the world supports Ukrainians because they’re white” and never “both these nations suffer from their oppressors and we’re in solidarity with both”

Is it irony that the people who keep screaming at Ukranian to not be "Russiaphobic" because "not all Russians" have demonized everyone even vaguely related to Israel, let alone just Jewish people existing in the last few months?
I'm well aware there are people still on the left who are actual functioning human beings who have capacity to be self critical and self reflect. But I feel like they are increasingly the baffled minority wondering wtf happened that people in the world of political inclinations meant to be a more humane and kinder approach to humanity have become so blood thirsty and ghoulish.

Nevzorov:
Well, the Third World War seems to be cancelled for today. Maybe tomorrow. But, it’s too early to relax.
Iran said it had sent an additional batch of drones to Israel. Several dozen more UAVs are on their way to Israel and are currently being shot down.
Israel promises Iran an adequate response.
Saudi Arabia has expressed concern.
Biden asked Israel not to respond to Iran.
Let's summarize.
In total, approximately 200 missiles were shot down. There is minor damage to the airbase. One Bedouin girl was wounded, and three other women were injured. No one was killed. Dome and Partners handled the attack superbly.
That is, they can. Whenever they want.
This example perfectly demonstrated the potential of the warring parties. Obviously, if they wanted, it would not be difficult for NATO countries to defeat russia and provide Ukraine with a quick victory.
But, apparently, there is no clear desire to resolve the issue and save thousands of lives.

it's interesting how the vast majority of the people on this website just don't actually know anything about like the broader internet politics sphere. Like... you see liberal bloggers reblogging articles from The Grayzone about the Israeli genocide in Palestine and then two posts later reblogging something from like. prismatic-bell about how you should vote for 99% hitler or whatever.

If you support the deaths of *any* civillians, no matter who they are or who you are, you're a horrible person. That's the end all and be all. The amount of celebrating the deaths of innocnents I've seen since the Ukraine war started has been disgusting itself, but its reached new levels now that the occupation of Gaza is happening.
Stop supporting the fucking deaths of innocent people you fucking scumbags.

Russia is an ally of the horrific régimes in Syria and Iran. Putin probably smiles when he sees reports of ISIS-style atrocities committed by Hamas.
As Iran-backed terrorists rampaged through Israeli cities, some – including many in Ukraine – pointed fingers at Russia, a country with established ties with Hamas and a clear beneficiary of a war set to diverge attention from its own atrocities in Ukraine. "Russia is interested in igniting a war in the Middle East so that a new source of pain and suffering will weaken world unity," said Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Oct. 9. Ukraine's intelligence even reported that Russia gave Hamas captured Ukrainian weapons in an effort to discredit Kyiv, while Polish President Andrzej Duda said, "This (war) certainly helps Russia and Russian aggression against Ukraine, it distracts the world's attention."
There's much for Putin to love about Hamas. It reminds him a lot of Russia.
Hamas, and to a lesser extent, the Palestinian Authority, have been criticized for severe corruption and disregard for democratic processes while in power, canceling and postponing elections for more than a decade. Hamas has also been accused of gruesome human rights violations, including killings and systematic torture of its opposition, violence against women, and repression of civil society in Gaza.
So the Nazi-style rampage by Hamas across their border with Israel has attracted admiration from Russians committing genocide in Ukraine.
As Hamas terrorists rampaged through Israeli cities, murdering hundreds of soldiers and civilians, Russian propagandists rejoiced in triumph. "Not a drop of pity or sympathy (for the Israelis)," Dmitry Steshin, Russian military correspondent known for his support of ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians, wrote on his Telegram channel. "This mess is beneficial for Russia…Iran is our real military ally," said Russia's prominent propagandist Sergey Mardan.
Hamas's leader was welcomed to Moscow earlier this year. Terrorists chillin' with terrorists.
The latest meeting between Hamas representatives and Russian officials took place in March 2023, when Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas, in Moscow.
Russia, acting like a neo-colonialist on steroids in Ukraine, may hypocritically try to play the anti-colonialist card.
Russia is also seizing the moment to advance its anti-American propaganda, playing the fictitious role of an anti-colonial champion. "(Russians) present this disorder as a 'win' for Russia not just because it supposedly weakens the West but also because it is proof their worldview is correct," Jade McGlynn, a research fellow at the Department of War Studies at King's College London, told the Kyiv Independent. [ ... ] "Russia presents itself as a friend of the colonized against the imperial West and the U.S.," McGlynn added. "Of course, empirically speaking, this is absurd: Russia is conducting a nakedly imperial war in Ukraine," she added.
Russia may not have directly assisted Hamas in its weekend mass murder spree, but it has been on cozy terms with Iran which is the chief backer of Hamas. The misogynist régime in Iran supplies Russia with Shahed drones which are then used on Ukrainian civilians.

And gaza’s disproportionate genocide was tweeted by israel’s president without shame. After all the support I gave ukraine, I never once believed russia because you asked me to think better. All those posts supporting persecuted muslims mean nothing? I don’t know what to think of this account anymore.
Bruh. Sorry for betraying you like that. I guess I'll have to support the mass murder of civilians now
Oh, btw, and if you support Ukraine just because someone told you then that is just stupid. I don't want you to not believe Russia just cause I told you. I want you to have basic abilities to identify propaganda and doubt known liars. There's like a multitude of things wrong with russia and a multitude of things wrong with Israel and none of them means we should attack their civilian population just for the sake of it (I'll be flexible as fuck and say that civilian casualties as collateral damage can be understood)

I feel like, since the Ukraine-Russia war began, every single sporting tournament has essentially penalized Russian n Belarusian athletes for being Russian n Belarusian by taking their flags away from their profiles (this is very noticeable on TV, whenever they display the names of, let's say the 2 tennis players about to play. They do not show the Russian or Belarusian flags for their athletes). Which I feel is unfair, because what do these athletes have to do with the war? They are participating in a sporting tournament, they are not in the front lines. And yeah ok, if it comes to light that these athletes have some involvement, like donating for stuff or their cousin is on the line, etc, sure yeah then we can talk about that influencing their penalization. But until then? Why are they being marked as country less? And furthermore, why are the main sport entities (like the ITF or FIFA, etc) not then penalizing Israeli athletes? They are the main (and frankly, only) participants in the Israel-Palestine war (which is not even a war, because this attack on the Palestinian people is absolutely malicious and is absolutely genocidal), so if Russian and Belarusian athletes will have their flags taken away, then so should the Israeli athletes. They should be given the same weight and severity that is being given to the Russian and Belarusian athletes

I think this really just hits the nail on the head of this whole shit, honestly, like if you cannot draw the line at funding genocide then what are your morals? What incentive dobyour politicians have to do something good if they'll be elected anyway no matter what they do? How are the very real lives of millions of people outside of your imperial core just... Nothing... To you? How is it more important for us to understand a politician in murica has to avoid political suicide than it is for citizens to see - again of all thing of ALL things of ALL THINGS - to see genocide as the one thing you don't just let pass? Do you ever think beyond your myopic lens? Put pressure on the democrats to force them to put forward a better candidate if they want your vote instead of sending out the message that they have some sort of political immunity. Of course your vote is important so go ahead and hold it hostage because that's the only bargaining chip you have other than direct action. Idk it's so tone deaf and it's making me sick to have to see Americans talk about politics at home like it's all rhetorical and abstract and hand-wring about their leaders there is blood on those hands if not this then what? What would a person have to do to lose your unwavering support? Any person, any politician at all, what is the One Thing they would have to do for you to say "yeah I can no longer ideologically support this man or send out a message in any way that this was acceptable" what would that one thing be? Do you have that One Thing? Do you have principles? Does your mercy extend to the rest of us in this bitch of a planet? Good fucking God, it's sickening to see how blasé American citizens are about this subtle and constant dehumanising, where the rest of the world just becomes "global issues" for you to debate.

A great deal; you are good to those who are good to you. It is all I ever desire to be. If people were always kind and obedient to those who are cruel and unjust, the wicked people would have it all their own way; they would never feel afraid, and so they would never alter, but would grow worse and worse. When we are struck at without a reason, we should strike back again very hard; I am sure we should - so hard as to teach the person who struck us never to do it again. Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
