Saints and Liars - chapter 9

In the aftermath of Reyes' revelations in SAM node, Cerys struggles to tell friend from foe and tries to deal with the knowledge that someone has seen all her most intimate moments. She and Harry finally talk about what happened between them, and Cerys puts forward Reyes' suggestion that she see both men at the same time.

“Stay safe, mi amor. I'll find you again when the time is right.”

Reyes’ final words echoed in her head, and Cerys shifted on the bed in medbay and sighed. Her good hand lifted to her shoulder, and she unconsciously traced the gauze covering her wound as she replayed the scene with Reyes in SAM Node over and over and over. She wanted to get out of here and verify what he'd told her about who he was and what he was doing in Andromeda, but she was strictly limited to bedrest for another night in medbay.

One more night, Harry had reminded her when he broke the news, was not going to change what was on the data chip or in her fathers terminal. 

She knew he was right; she needed to rest and heal, but it didn't stop her mind from replaying things over and over. Cerys sighed and shifted uncomfortably, trying to find a position which hurt less while her arm was in a sling. The more she thought about Reyes, the more a heavy weight seemed to press down on her chest, smothering her, and she didn’t think it had anything to do with the bullet wound. 

Guilt . 

Reyes had been behind the Andromeda Alliance, but not for the reasons she had assumed. Not for money or power, but because he was trying to do something good. He’d asked her to trust him, to believe in him, and at the first test of that she had failed him.

Worse still, he seemed to have been counting on her doing just that; he’d set himself up to look like a bad guy, knowing what it would do to her and what she would think. 

Cerys smiled wryly. Maybe she shouldn't have been surprised; Reyes had always been a ‘bigger picture’ kind of guy, willing to sacrifice some pawns if it got him an ultimate victory. She’d seen that on Kadara when he’d used her like a chess piece to take out Sloane, albeit with her consent.

Ruthless. Calculating. Cold.

And yet there was so much more to him than that. Reyes was complex. Harry might have condemned him for risking her life to stop the Benefactor’s agent from spying on her, but Cerys couldn’t do the same.

Hm, I had to figure out how to interpret “comfort character” because, darn it, I have a lot of blorbos crammed into this fangirl heart of mine (I swear, my fangirl heart looks like an absolute CLOWN CAR in more ways than one 😂😉). So let’s go with 5 characters who give me great comfort whenever I write/vid/otherwise think of them. I’ll restrict it to one per fandom to make it interesting. 😛

2. Master Chief John-117 x Cortana (Halo), Master Chief John-117 x Kai-125 (Halo the series)

What? Halo is one fandom with two facets, the video game and the tv series, so I felt free to, you know, shout-out my ships from both of them. C’mon, you know I LOVE MY SHIPS, Y’ALL. Ahem. 😛😇 I’ve written and vidded tv!Chief several times but have only vidded game!Chief a couple of times at this point.

3. Noble Team (Halo: Reach)

What? I love the entire team. *innocent face* 😇😇😇 And I had to include the second GIF because Jorge isn’t in the first one because he and Sara were out getting ice cream on their first date, d’aww! THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED. DO NOT SPEAK TO ME OF ANYTHING ELSE. *nodnods in utter denial* 😉 I’ve vidded Noble Team once and have a fic in progress.

Reyes had gone to the very outskirts of Kadara port, leaning on the railing overlooking the valley below. It was away from the hustle of the main square; a place where before everything had changed had been a good place to see how the place was actually doing as this was where those whose time was up went before they were thrown out of the port. The desperate, the terrified, the addicted; all ended up here. Now thanks to his efforts as well as the Pathfinder's support it was different. He cast his eyes out towards the badlands. The sun was slowly setting over the distant mountains. Every time he'd taken the time to look, it had taken his breath away at how beautiful Kadara was, even more so now the Vault had started balancing the composition of the environment. This place could really be somewhere good, for both Angara and new comers.

He'd asked Ryder to meet him at this spot and heard her make her way over the metal walkway to where he was, whistling loudly in appreciation at the spectacular view. "Wow! Now this is something else Reyes." "Shh, come here." Reyes held a finger to his lips and beckoned her closer. As she stepped into his reach he took her hand and gently pulled her closer to him. Directing their view outwards with his free hand, he gestured with a wave. "Listen to that...No crying, no fighting. No sounds of Oblivion addled victims. Kadara is healing and it's in no small part thanks to you." Ryder side eyed Reyes and he smirked, wrapping his arms around her. "Well a great deal thanks to you. I had all of it planned out you know, how I would take down Sloane, how I would sway the great Pathfinder to my way of thinking. Then I walked into Kralla's Song and saw you, and knew you would be trouble for me." "The best kind of trouble I hope. " "You have no idea. I thought we'd work well together, be professional. But when you kissed me at Sloane's party and then told me I was someone to you. I fell in love with you that night. I thought-" "You love me?" Ryder butt in with a twinkle in her eyes, as if she'd known he'd loved her as long as she'd worked out he was in fact The Charlatan. "There's no hiding anything from you is there?" Reyes nervously laughed along, hoping how he felt wasn't one sided.

Ryder lifted one had to run a gloved thumb over his cheek. "Not really. So it's a good job I love you too isn't it?"

N7Month Challenge - Day 8: Crash

This hadn't gone as planned. He should have known Sloane wouldn't come alone to the meeting, it was an obvious trap and she was an intelligent woman. Calculating and cruel sometimes, but she knew a trap when she saw one. Reyes still hadn't expected she would bring Ryder with her.

Reyes had kept to the shadows as long as possible, trying to hide that the world was crashing down on him. He had to lock it away, he had to play his role perfectly. Reyes took a deep breath and stepped into the light. He could see the shocked expression written all over Ryder's face as they realized who he was.

A few moments later it was over. Sloane was dead, he was free to take Kadara port and make it a better place. But he hesitated to leave for a moment, afraid of Ryder's reaction, so he started barking orders and hurried to the exit.

Only for Ryder to call him back.

"You used me."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Reyes had answers for every question. He'd been too afraid to lose them, and wanted to keep living in the illusion that half of him would be enough for this to work.

Ryder let him go though and Reyes tried to push the pain away and focus on the task at hand. The task he'd been working to achieve for months. Taking over Kadara port, the fight didn't care if the world was crashing down on him. He had to push through to achieve his goal.

And maybe... Maybe Ryder would forgive him some day.

Harry brings Cerys back to his apartment while she's recuperating from her surgery, but getting a good night's rest is the last thing on either of their minds as Harry decides to show Cerys exactly how far from a Saint he is. (Yes, this is a very smutty chapter!)

“Right now for instance, I want to see you kneeling on the floor in front of me while I fuck your mouth.” Harry’s hand tightened around hers and he stood up, drawing her up with him. “I want to deep throat you and see you struggling to breathe around me.” He pulled her to him, and Cerys moved as though in a trance. “Does that scare you?”

“No,” Cerys’ voice was breathy and small, and her heart fluttered madly in her chest. “It excites me.”

Harry sucked in a breath and he tugged her closer, his eyes so dark with lust they almost seemed black. He wound an arm around her waist, holding her flush to his body so she could feel his arousal, while he raised his other hand to her face and traced her full lower lip with his forefinger. Cerys could see what he wanted, and parted her lips, obediently sucking on his finger when he pushed it into her mouth. 

“God, you’re so right for me,” he told her, his voice a low growl as she sucked on his finger. Her own excitement building at his visible response to her. Harry pressed his hand into her lower back, grinding her against his erection as he added a second finger to her mouth. “You let me fuck that sexy little mouth of yours, and I’ll go down on you afterwards. How does that sound?”

Cerys nodded, grazing her teeth against his fingers as she kept sucking, her heart beating so fast she felt dizzy. Harry slid his hand from her lower back up to her shoulder and pressed down, encouraging her to go to her knees. She went willingly, kneeling in front of him as he slowly pulled his fingers from her mouth, tracing her lips with their glistening tips.

I love these romances on mass effect andromeda! I have an urge to write some mass effect andromeda fics right now as I replay the game making two save runs for them! One would be Ryder broken hearted by Reyes but finding love with Jaal, and the other a Reyes romance that did work out and add in scenes. But I'm sure there's a ton of these already out there. Will see! Still need to continue my ghost recon one as well, is just a big project that one.
