Prince Animage Spring 2012 - Eguchi Takuya (Amemiya Taiyou) Interview
Let the Sun Shine Forever in your Heart!
Just like the north wind and the sun, Taiyou appears as Tenma’s personal rival! Director Akiyama is longing for him to appear again - just what is it that makes him so charming?
Amemiya Taiyou is your 3rd character to play in Inazuma Eleven GO.
Eguchi: Yes. The first was Kotegawa Sakio. The guy who took the entrance test for the soccer club but had no motivation about it. The second one was Mannouzaka’s Isozaki - you could say he was a ‘bad guy’ (smiles).
First you were a rival for Tenma during the entrance exam, then you were an acquaintance of Tsurugi’s and now you’ve gone from supporting roles to a key character.
Eguchi: That’s true. When I was first called called for Kotegawa, I never thought I’d be reappearing as Isozaki so soon. But even though Isozaki is a Captain, all he does is give orders to everyone around him and never once summons a keshin - that’s a shame. I thought that after Isozaki my role on Inazuma Eleven GO would be over, but I’m really grateful I got to play three different characters. Taiyou summons the really cool keshin Shun God Apollo, so I felt like, I can finally summon one! He has four arms and he’s all shiny.
What impression do you have of Taiyou?
Eguchi: He’s definitely named Taiyou for a reason. He’s a very bright and colorful kid. Even though his body is weak and he was in hospital for a long time, he’s very positive thinking and he’s extremely passionate about soccer. He’s the kind of genius player who only appears once every 10 years, so I would love to have seen more about him.
How much did Taiyou know of Ishido’s true intentions?
Eguchi: During the match he said to Tenma ‘I see. You don’t know then. Fifth Sector - no - Seitei’s true intentions.’ I wonder if he’d probably heard everything. Ishido-san seems to visit Taiyou’s hospital room a lot, so I think they probably have deep conversations.
It feels like Ishido is charmed by Taiyous talent and couldn’t neglect that.
Eguchi: Yeah, definitely. And Taiyou-kun respected Ishido-san a lot. When I was playing him, and Ishido-san came to his hospital room and Taiyou said ‘Oh, Ishido-san!’ I tried to play it so that it conveyed Taiyou-kun’s respect for him.
However, if Arakumo Gakuen won, the Holy Road selection tournament would have been beneficial to Fifth Sector.
Eguchi: I think Taiyou himself probably wanted to believe that ‘Ishido-san will definitely figure something out!’ and leave it to him.
Arakumo Gakuen’s soccer doesn’t feel controlled. They all seem like good kids.
Eguchi: Yeah. You can really feel the team’s determination to play soccer. There’ a big difference between them and Isozaki’s Mannouzaka team (laughs).
Mannouzaka’s team was all for show.
Eguchi: Arakumo Gakuen weren’t a team sent out to stop Raimon from winning; they really did want to win, win the tournament and simply play the soccer they love and have fun. Since they have a very harmonious atmosphere, I’d love to have the chance to see their daily lives.
Taiyou-kun appears as Tenma’s rival character, but what do you think if you compare the two of them?
Eguchi: I think they’re basically very alike. When I was going to play him I was told ‘Taiyou is very similar to Tenma in many ways, and they view soccer the same way,’. However, Taiyou is probably more perceptive than Tenma. Like during the hospital scene, where he reassured Fuyuka-san that he was fine, but right afterwards you could see him looking lonely for a moment. I thought that was quite mature and took her feelings into consideration.
He also escaped from the hospital when Fuyuka wasn’t looking.
Eguchi: He called it ‘A successful escape!’. I think she’s definitely told him off for sneaking out before.
And yet when the ball came… (laughs)
Eguchi: Yay~ It’s a ball~it’s a ball~♪
Next, during the match, Taiyou panted a lot while he spoke.
Eguchi: Yeah. In the hospital he said to Ishido ‘Soccer is connected to my life. If I can’t play in matches, it’s the same as being dead.’ Soccer is very important to Taiyou. There was a part that said today’s match might injure him so bad that he won’t be able to play tomorrow. So he was desperate to make play by play, and play soccer like his life depended on it.I don’t know what his terrible illness was, but it was probably to do with his heart? I felt like I should play him like he was pretty exhausted.
Please tell us your memorable scenes and dialogue for Taiyou-kun.
Eguchi: ‘Today’s proverb: If it’s in order to achieve your dreams, try to bounce back no matter what!’. I received letters from fans saying that the bravery in Taiyou’s words alsomade them want to aim for their dreams. Me too, when I said that line, I thought that Taiyou means that phrase from his heart. That’s what I felt.
After the match, Taiyou lies on his back looking up at the sky. ‘What should I do? I still wanna play soccer!’ That scene was also very memorable.
Eguchi: It was. In that scene in the games, I played it more dramatically, like ‘I still want to play soccer so badly…’ When I recorded that line, I felt tears come to my eyes. But the anime version felt much more positive. Like, ‘From here on out too I wanna continue to play soccer!’. The lines were similar, but the nuance felt different. Whether it’s in the games or in the anime, I want to see Taiyou get better.
If he gets the chance to appear again, what would you like to see Taiyou do?
Eguchi: Without a doubt, I wanna see him and Tenma play soccer together with all their might. Since they parted ways by shaking hands, and he vowed he would definitely come back. Next time I personally would like to see Taiyou on the field - not in a hospital bed.
Eguchi-san’s other roles:
*Note: It’s hard to read these since the text is partly cut off.
Kotegawa Sakio: I was one of the kids who took the entrance test to the soccer club. He’s the kind of person who acts exactly as the picture of him looks. He said things like, ‘I thought this test would be easy!’ I wonder how those kids are doing now?
Isozaki Kenma: He said he would give Tenma an injury that would never heal - that was awful! (bitter laugh) But according to Shindou, in the end he decided to support Raimon. So I’d like to see Isozaki after his change of heart. And I’d like to see him be closer to the former Seed, Tsurugi.
This person works hard too!
Sata Tosamaru: Sata-kun is played by Tai Yuuki-san. I remember him shouting ‘Gigadon!’ many times. He played hard until the end of the match.

Inazuma Eleven ☆ Harry Potter AU | Quidditch Positions
Anonymous said to inazuma-hpau: could you please explain how you translate inazuma sakka positions to kuidichi positions. Sometimes it’s hard to decipher what position a player would be as they could be multiple! Doesn’t translate as easy as goalkeeper to keeper
A lot of the attributes that helped me to base which position each player plays within kuidichi does have a lot to do with what sakka position they play - but that’s note the only reason! I also take into consideration what types of hissatsus they use, their physical build, their athletic traits and sometimes personality traits.
Doesn’t stop a character from being able to fit two positions though! That’s why I have a secondary position for each character!
KEEPER
“Keepers are typically well-built and athletic players who usually stick close to the goal posts where they can deploy their defensive skills to their fullest capacity.”
The easiest translatable position between sakka and quidditch as it’s quite easy to place all the goalkeepers and qudditch keepers. However, I also feel like some sakka goalkeepers could potentially play seekers as well (or even suit them better). I’ve taken a little consideration on goalkeepers with GK hissatsu that either catch or block a ball from entering a goal (as quidditch keepers deflect/block more, while the aim of seekers is to catch).
Endou Mamoru is someone who definitely grows into having a stable upper body build of a keeper who would love nothing more than to protect his house’s hoops - despite having a lot of Catch GK hissatsus that could allow him to play seeker too. I can also see him playing Chaser as his libero counterpart as an equivalent for combination hissatsus like The Phoenix and Inazuma Break.
Genda Koujirou, Saginuma Osamu, Tachimukai Yuuki, Senguuji Yamato, Shirosaki Katsuya Hyoudou Tsukasa, Sata Tosamaru and Sangoku Taichi are some examples of some solid quidditch keepers. Miyabino Reiichi would also make a good keeper, but I just like image of him being a seeker too.
SEEKER
"Usually the lightest and fastest fliers, Seekers need both a sharp eye and the ability to fly one- or no-handed”
Seekers are the players that don’t necessarily have a translatable position from sakka. Seekers are often the players that are not just fastest on the team but can also hold their ground as individual players as well as it is not such a teamwork position like chasers.
Kazemaru Ichirouta and Matsukaze Tenma (with hissastus like Fuujin no Mai, Soyokaze Step and Kazaana Drive) and are examples of speedy players that the rest of the would be able to trust to catch the snitch, but could also play as chasers if they wanted to, because they’re players that still do teamwork well.
Matatagi Hayato is also a good example of a Seeker being both fast and more of a player who prefers the glory of an individual rather than strategising with a team. In quidditch, he’d want to catch the snitch to assure his team’s victory + make his younger brothers watching be proud of him.
Ichinose Kazuya and Amemiya Taiyou, although works well as a team, are already quite talented on their own and can basically own the field.
As mention above, goalkeepers who have catch hissatsus could also potentially play as Seeker. Although I’ve listed Nishizono Shinsuke as a keeper, he does have more of a seeker’s build than a keeper’s- being quite small, light and having lots of energy. Also I can imagine him falling off his broom if he were to attempt a Kattobi Defense/ Buttobi Jump just to defend the goal - since most of his hissatsus require him to jump).
CHASER
‘Chasers are typically swift and agile flyers (second only to the Seeker), making females ideal for the position.”
Chasers are the quidditch equivalent to forwards but can also fit some midfielders as well. The main qualities to look for in a chaser from sakka players are those who use shoot hissatsus to score and work well with other team members (using combination shoot hissatsus and involved with Hissatsu tactics/ multiple player strategies).
Gouenji Shuuya and Utsunomiya Toramaru are prime examples of chasers with strong shoot techniques (Fire Tornado and Tiger Drive) and combination shoots (Tiger Storm).
Kidou Yuuto is also another chaser who works well with other players as he has more shooting techniques which requires multiple players (Koutei Penguin 2/3, Inazuma Break and Death Zone 2). He also works on and implements strategies and tactics like Dual Typhoon and Route of Sky.
Majority of all characters takes up either as a chaser with beater as their secondary position (or vice versa). Fudou Akio is one example as he can play as an aggressive chaser (play in combination hissatsus like Koutei Penguin) or as a beater with duo hissatsus (Killer Fields).
BEATER
“Beaters need to be well built, having considerable physical strength in their arms since they are charged with hitting the Bludgers throughout the whole match. Beaters also need to have good balance, as they are, at times, required to take both hands off their broomstick.”
Beaters are a tricky position as many beaters can also play as chasers or keepers (with their build). The traits I looked for with beaters is their abilities on certain block, dribble and some shoot hissatsus (long shoots, shoot chains and shoot blocks) - hissatsus that are aimed more at other players than the hoops/ keepers. They also need to be able to work well as a duo and not just as an individual player.
Duos that are the most notable would be sibling related like the Fubuki twins (Shirou especially with Ice Ground) or Kidokawa Seishuu GO’s Taki Sousuke and Taki Yoshihiko as they are already strongly connected.
Nagumo Haruya and Suzuno Fuusuke also have quite a strong connection together and as quite offensive/ aggressive players with a duo hissatsu (Fire Blizzard).
As mentioned, Chasers and Beaters are two positions where players can side either way. Just as Fudou Akio can play an aggressive chaser, he’d also make a great beater with duo/ combination techniques with other players (Killer Fields with Kidou Yuuto).
Turned out to be a much longer explanation - but hope it does help explain the weird way of how my head sorted all these sakka players as kuidichi players.

So in the GO games the characters have their years by their names and other info and I find that pretty interesting?? I don’t think the games prior to the GO ones had the years on the character mini profile. I tend to forget who is in what year sometimes and the ina11 wiki doesn’t have their years listed (I think). Anyway, if you’re curious about who is in what year/grade here’s a (long) list of inazuma characters. It mostly contains GO characters but since you can recruit some characters from the original series I added them on here to.
Not every character has a year, some are labeled ??? or ADULT (Akizora Challengers/Golden Oldies team). Most of the aliea characters are under ??? and Toramaru is to (but we all know he’s younger so-). Also, these are only from Light/Shadow. I haven’t played CS yet so none of those characters are on here.
