Shawn Porter said an incredibly stupid thing this past week, saying Naoya Inoue *has* to come to the US and KO some Americans to be the face of boxing. So Inoue fired back.

A couple things

Inoue fought in the US 3x already. Won 3 title fights iirc. Plus he’s fought in Glasgow. Fighting in foreign countries is a thing no American fighter is asked to do.

Also, he already KOed the best American fighter at 126lbs or below? Fulton, a guy I like but who couldn’t fill a mid sized stadium in Philly let alone a 20,000 person venue in Japan. Meanwhile Inoue is about to sell 50,000+ tickets at the Tokyo Dome and have more than 10 million tune in for his fight on TV in Japan.

The thing that pisses me off, besides the geocentrism of it all, is that Porter is asking more of Inoue than he is of American promoters. You want him here? Make some stats that will put butts in seats and can guarantee big purses.

Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter - 11/20/2021

Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) has been considered the most skilled boxer in fighting by many smart people for the better part of the last 6-7 years after kickboxing off the "undisputed era" by winning all 4 major titles at 140lbs. Sadly, Crawford fell into a bit of a rut when he moved up to welterweight in part because of a promotional beef between Top Rank and PBC. It was a long stretch of having to watch all the other top welterweights fight one another while be sat on the WBO welterweight title destroying whoever Arum could find for him.

But that is over now. Crawford is a free man and is fighting for all the gold at 147lbs against the best welterweight the sport has right now, Errol Spence Jr (28-0, 22 KOs). It's arguably the best and most meaningful fight of 2023, across all combat sports.

Crawford and Spence face off this Saturday (July 29) on PPV.
