Thinking about how perfect the Silmarillion already is and about how even more perfect it would be if Tolkien actually got the chance to write it properly.

Don't get me wrong, Christopher already did a great job at publishing all of his father's works (he didn't have to do that, no one made him spent years trying to organize an entire world), but as it is the Silm is just a large summary of events, and even the separate books that focus on just one story like Luthien or Turin are more very detailed summaries then actual novels.

I mean, imagine Tolkien got to write all that out the way he did with Lord of The Rings, it wouldn't be a trilogy but (a ten-logy???) at least ten books!

Imagine reading all those already heartbreaking scenes the way novels are normally written, with more dialog and detailed descriptions and everything, the way we now only get it in fanfiction.

And I think that's kind of what this fandom is doing. We take all those notes and ideas and give them details and life. We finish Tolkien's legacy because he couldn't do it himself.

Pagmamano (Tagalog) - "honouring-gesture;" a sign of respect towards elders

A continuation of sorts, of this other drawing I made of the Feänorians, which was roughly inspired by Filipino culture. I originally planned on completing this for @nolofinweanweek, specifically the first prompt about how Fingolfin and Feänor's families got along, but life got in the way and I didn't finish it in time. More background/my long rambles under the cut:

Pagmamano - touching the back of an elder's hand on one's forehead - is not restricted to family, but it's usually done in the context of elder family members. I have many memories of attending family reunions and being told to follow the other kids to "mano po" a grandfather, aunt, or uncle. While Elves don't have elderly relatives, per se, I thought this image was too fun not to draw. Also, I love envisioning Feänor as that cool uncle who gives the most amazing gifts but like, the kids are intimidated by him, so they have to be told (and supervised) by their parents to line up and greet him properly. Fingolfin's just standing there making sure his kids all greet their uncle. (Maedhros, presumably having already finished his greetings, is sidetracking Fingon.)

All this to say, I think that these guys didn't have the perfect relationship. But. You can't convince me Finwë didn't get the whole family together from time to time on some sort of family reunion camping trip. And Feänor just has to begrudgingly tolerate it because he can't say no to his dad. While the kids, obviously, have a great time.

the Valar seem pretty content to primarily punish the ringleaders and let their followers go, so the Fëanorian followers probably get re-embodied well before their lords do

thus when Elrond shows up Formenos is not so much a lone fortress of exile as a bustling city where all the Fëanorians live, as most of them don't really want to swear loyalty to Finarfin and also don't tend to get along with the various other factions in Tirion

Caranthir specifically having beef with "the sons of Finarfin" is so intriguing to me. because it's kind of an outlier? iirc there's a version where angrod and aegnor are friends with celegorm and curufin, finrod hangs out voluntarily with maglor and maedhros and is able to peaceably coexist with celegorm and curufin until a Silmaril gets involved and even Feanor seems to be way more focused on Fingolfin in his animosity so it really just seems personal on caranthirs part. What the hell happened

What's up Silm fandom! So I think that it's pretty common knowledge that Tolkien designed Middle Earth as an earlier version of our world, so I'm now assembling a crew to invade Aman.

I've done some research and I'm pretty sure that the straight way should be somewhere west of North America. The plan is to steal some boats, leave half of the fandom behind, burn them on the shores of Alqualonde and confirm our headcanons by visiting the house of Finwë.

Cause I don't know about you guys, but I'm not planning on spending the rest of my life in this miserable world when I can instead chill with the sons of Fëanor.
