Paul Guilfoyle again - gloves and cigar
From Star Trek Discovery - Terra Firma parts 1 and 2.
As promised, more Guilfoyle pics. OK, I might have posted one or two of them before, but he bears repeating.
So what do we have to get my organs aching? Leather gloves, cigar, bowler hat, suit and overcoat.
The man would look good in just a ropey vest and pair of underpants, he's that handsome, and I wouldn't mind seeing him like that anyway.
But here he is looking sharp, and that really gets me going. Then you give this man a cigar to smoke and suddenly he's in a different league.
Of course, the costume department made one serious sartorial mistake: he should have been wearing a bow tie. Shameful error of judgement.

[tv review] discovery 3x09 & 3x10 "terra firma" (2020)
3x09 “terra firma, part 1”
this is mostly setup for part 2, but it’s fantastic setup. saru and the others seeing georgiou off was surprisingly affecting, especially the unexpected respect georgiou and saru exchanged. we finally get to see captain killy and mirror burnham. the former is just absolutely joyful to watch, honestly? but as much as the episode allows us to enjoy some of the more indulgent aspects of the mirror universe, it also lets us feel their horror, and georgiou’s near-inability to conceal her discomfort really shows how far she’s come.
again, the real payoff is coming in part 2, but this is a great part 1, and in a great two-parter you really do hope that most of the fireworks happen in part 2. that’s kind of how it’s supposed to work! a-rank
3x10 “terra firma, part 2”
the ending of this episode left me a sobbing wreck for a second time, so, yeah. like, i was ugly crying and couldn’t stop until well after the episode was over. it just came in waves and there was nothing i could do about it.
mirror georgiou really gets to shine over the course of these two episodes, which are designed to show us how incredibly far she’s come thanks to her time aboard the discovery, and with prime michael. her interactions with mirror saru are incredible. it’s heartbreaking seeing her attempts to sway mirror michael to her side fail, but it’s wonderful seeing the attempt. it’s wonderful seeing her try to make things better. it’s the most like prime georgiou she’s ever been.
her asking the guardian if michael can come with her is gutting. their goodbye absolutely destroys me. this is just incredible television. and it’s worthy of the relationship between these two incredible women. it acknowledges what they are to each other, out loud, and it makes me feel all the feelings.
it’s still gutting that michael won’t ever have either version of her mommy domme in her life again, but it is probably the best goodbye star trek has ever done. the sweetest sorrow, if you will. s-rank

Star Trek Discovery S3E09 - Terra Firma Part 1 Review
"Let's hug Hitler" says #StarTrekDiscovery S3E09 - Terra Firma Part 1 #Review
*SPOILERS*
The disjointed recap at the start of “Terra Firma Part 1” serves to illustrate just how many plates “Star Trek: Discovery” has spinning at the moment. The very first scene tells us that the writers aren’t going to focus on any of the plates that matter long-term. Instead, the platter it’s spinning up this week could probably best be described as ‘Sympathy For The Devil”.
It’s a…

So we sent everyone a thousand years into the future, but we don’t have time to dwell on the implications of that because we need to set Michael up with a new love interest.
...whomst she spends a whole year with off-screen, but we don’t have time for that because we need to see how the Federation has changed and the tensions that result from that.
...tensions that we don’t have time to resolve, so it’s just okay now. Cause we’re doing space nazis again! How? Doesn’t matter, here’s CSI Stanley Baldwin with a door.
I look forward to the mirror universe plot getting wrapped up within ten minutes of the next episode and quickly moving on to another world-shattering event that goes nowhere.
(but we get to see Landry again so I’ll allow it)

Star Trek: Discovery 3.09 Terra Firma review
Terra Firma Part 1
Spoilers
The ninth episode of the third season and the first half of a two-parter. Georgiou's condition is getting worse, and the Sphere Dara recommends going to a mysterious planet near the Gamma Quadrant. It is discovered that the ship in that nebula is a Kelpian ship. Upon reaching the planet and meeting a mysterious 'Carl,' Georgiou finds herself back in the Mirror Universe. More on what she experiences later. The scene with the hologram of the Time Warrior from the Kelvin Universe was good.
Not sure what to make of the 'molecules want to go back to universe and time of origin' thing. But then the concept isn't new. It's similar to the Entropic Cascade Failure in Stargate SG1. Even there the more similar (and closer) the realities, the less likely it is to occur. But time travel wasn't mentioned. The way Saru reacted to the message from the Kelpian ship in that nebula was a nice touch. That is certainly leading somewhere. Admiral Vance's words to Saru about learning from past mistakes were also a nice touch.
'Carl' is certainly reminiscent of Q, but he may not be a Q. (Maybe not a portal or be related to the Guardian of Forever either). The Mirror Universe twist was a surprise. Whatever that door is, it probably didn't lead to the real Mirror Universe. It's almost certainly a test which Georgiou must undergo. But that certainly what the real ISS Discovery looked like. Captain Killy certainly impressed.
I also liked the way Mirror Burnham contrasted with her Prime self. Of course the storyline on the ISS Discovery raises questions. Is it a test being generated by Carl? Or is there more going on? It's obvious that there will be at least some answers in the next episode. Like, is there now an alternate timeline with the death of the Mirror Stamets? That is maybe the biggest indication that it may be a Carl test. And there may be something in the character interactions that may be important. Even so, a good start to a two-parter. 8.4/10.
