The knock comes long after the sun has sunk beneath the lip of Stormbearers Point. You nearly mistake it for the rough pounding of wind and rain that pounds against your windows, rattling the glass, but the fist comes down once more with enough force to splinter the frame. The soles of your slippers slap against the aged oak wood as you rush over with nothing but a single candle to light the way. Your power blew out hours ago, leaving you with only the glow of your vision and the few spare candles to illuminate your home. A chill shoots through you as the door swings open with the force of the ferocious wind. Rain splatters against your face, nearly extinguishing your candle as you peer into the night.
Two low-ranking Fatui men stood on the other side of the door, they barged into your space without a word, tracking in mud and leaving puddles with each heavy stomp of their boots. Between them lay a man on a flimsy put-together cot, his skin was pale and damp. You hoped to wash your hands clean of them long ago but it seemed that once your limbs were caught within the Tsarita’s web there was no escape. The man's bright ginger was matted against his forehead and he shivered uncomfortably in his slumber. Rolling your sleeves up to your elbows, you shook your head in disbelief.
“We’ll be back for him when he’s in peak condition,” the man with the garish top hat muttered gruffly as they dropped the cot down in the middle of your living room, “Don’t contact us before then.”
The thinly veiled threat and finality to his voice made your shoulders shake. They were left without sparing so much as a second glance towards their comrade who let out a pained groan as his body was carelessly thrown to the floor. You kept your expression school into a façade of neutrality. The few minutes that passed felt closer to an eternity as you held your breath, your chest burning from the tension. Wrapping your fingers around the stem of your candle stick, you rushed over to the living room. In the dim light, all you could see was the faint rise and fall of his chest. He appeared far weaker than he did before as you sunk into the plush floral rug that was soaking up the stormwater that soaked the man’s clothing.
His vision weakly pulsated, the rich blue glow growing faint, “Archons above, just what have I gotten myself into …” you grumble, pressing the back of your hand to the man's clammy skin. He was warm, too warm  but still he shivered in his restless sleep.
Wax dripped over your knuckles as you hastily shoved it onto your side table. Hissing beneath your breath, you rushed over to your fireplace. There were few logs left to burn but they’d be enough to tide you until morning came and the storm subsided, then you could hike over to Springvale and haggle Draff to part with his store of dry wood. He didn’t need it when he spent most nights passed out at the Angel’s Share. Your frigid fingers fumble with the matches, you snap two of them in half from the rough way you drag them against the matchbox before you manage to light one. The flames are slow to grow but they’re willing to work with you so long as you gently stoke the embers. You silently thank Barbatos, casting a quick look behind you.
You’d need to strip him of his wet clothing and wrap him in something warm. The thought made your stomach churn uncomfortably. Even if it were possible to rouse the man from his fever induced slumber, it’d be unkind. You wished in that moment your vision would morph from dendro to pyro. At least then you’d be able to dry his clothing whilst preserving his modesty, well whatever modicum of modesty a man could have when all he wore were tattered, blood stained clothing.
“I’m sorry,” you whisper through gritted teeth as you peel back the remains of his grey jacket. There was a soaked glob of gauze sloppily tied around his torso.
You didn’t want to remove the bandage, you knew whatever it covered was likely to be infected. The longer you remained ignorant to his condition, the closer he came to death's door. Would that have been such a bad thing? For this man, yes, but for you? Finally, you’d be freed from this so called debt that left you on the Fatui’s roster but it was a cruel thought. This stranger did not deserve death because of your own stupidity and selfishness. The gaping hole of fissured flesh that ate away at the mans milky, freckled skin was infected. Sickly green pus oozes out when you lifted the soiled gauze. The urge to wretch rolls through your stomach.
“You poor thing,” you mumble as you bury your nose into your shoulder, “They really did a number on you.”
The man makes no sound, he hardly stirs at the sound of your voice. Your heart sinks further into your chest, his condition was far worse than you were prepared for. It takes you three hours to remove the shoddy field job, disinfect his wounds, and wrap them once more. His wet clothing lies in tatters around him. They weren’t in very good condition but your guilt ate away at you as he lay bare before you with only a small fur blanket to keep him warm. Perhaps Draff or one of the other hunters may have some clothing to spare, if not, you were sure the Cathedral would have something lingering in the lost and found.
Your knees creak obnoxiously as you rise from the floor. Sunlight has begun to bleed through your windows as morning crept over the horizon and the storm has dwindled to a light spattering of rain. Grabbing his belt from the mess of fabric that soaked your carpet, you furrowed your brow. The light in his vision still weakly pulsed but as you turned it over, the swirling blue that belonged to hydro morphed into a deep crimson. Stamped in the middle was a symbol you were familiar with, it’s what was brandished by the men who barged into your house– it was the Fatui emblem. He must have possessed a delusion; that confirmed some of your suspicions, whoever this man was, he must have been high ranking within the Fatui.
Fear rolled through your belly as you peered at the man's face. As he lay like this, he looked rather innocent. The telltale signs of time had yet to visit him. His cheeks were still round with youth, in spite of the many scars that littered his freckled skin. Shaking your head, you frowned a bit. You could not allow your guard to fall. You knew nothing of this man and a seemingly innocent expression did not mean cruelty didn’t live within him. Retching your gaze away, you pad down the hall to your bedroom. The trip into Springvale would be long but if you left soon, you’d catch the hunters before they embarked for the day.
You catch sight of your expression out of the corner of your eyes. Your mirror reflects your frail visage like a taunting mirage. Peering at the worn wood of your bedroom floor, you striped your soiled sleepwear. The white cotton is stained with mud and splotches of blood. You allow the cloth to fall to the ground with little fanfare. You’d deal with it whenever you returned home. It’d make fine kindling if you couldn’t scrub the stains out. Noelle, your friend and knight in training, might be able to clean them but she’d worry far too much about why you found yourself covered in blood.
The cold tile of your bathroom is not welcoming. Goosebumps erupt along the expanse of your bare skin, the hair on the back of your neck rises as you step into the space. You can’t avoid the imposing reflection of your mirror, your blank expression haunts you as you putter around. Your tub fills slowly, the water is always tepid, it never grows warm enough for you to feel clean but it’s the price you pay for the solace of solidarity. Daring to look into your mirror, you size up your reflection. The dark circles that ring around your eyes seemed to have deepened, your eyes sinking sadly into your skill. Your skin is dull and lifeless but that was nothing new.
Rolling your eyes, you turn away and dip your feet into the tub before the water has filled half way. The porcelain digs uncomfortably into your ribs as you lean over the edge, a heaving sigh passing your lips. You feel grimy, the filth clings to you like a second skin that cannot be cleaved away.
Your bath leaves you unsatisfied. You gag on the scent of your valberry soap, it’s nauseatingly sweet. The leather of your hiking boots rubs against your skin in a way that makes you want to claw out your eyeballs. Still, you shove your sock clad feet inside and tightly lace them over the hem of your pants. The patches you used to cover up a few holes have begun to fray around the edges, you momentarily pause to poke at them. They’d need to be replaced soon.
The man is still resting peacefully when you pass through the living room. Though it’s unlikely, you write him a quick note, just in case he were to wake. Pressing your palm to his forehead, you note that he’s become less clammy. You hope that it’s a good sign.
As always, the trek from Stormbearers Point to civilization is long. You snack on nuts and berries as you descend the mountain. The air is damp and humidity hangs low but the sun is bright enough for you to momentarily forget your worries and appreciate the beauty of Mondstadt. In all your years, travelling across Teyvat, nothing could ever quite compare to home. Some days, you wish you had realised that before heading off with nothing but a couple hundred mora to your name and a dream to become a famous writer. If you kept your roots planted in the pot you were raised in, maybe that Harbinger wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of a green nineteen year old in desperate need.
You sigh to yourself, willing away thoughts of the dark haired man with glasses who kept your soul caged within his fist. Your name is called before you’re able to register the town sign, “Good mornin’ to ya!” Draff shouts, his hand is pressed against his brow to block out the sun, “It’s been a while since ya came ‘round these parts!”
He seemed chipper. With the storm he likely couldn’t indulge in his nightly cap at the Angel’s Share. You shrink in on yourself, hoping that the others milling about the gate would be too busy to notice your presence.
“Good morning,” you return the greeting once you’re close enough that he could hear you without shouting, “I was hoping you’d have some things for me?”
“Aye, you’re out of wood?”
You nod your head, peering around him to get a closer look at the stock he’s piled beneath the wooden stall. There’s a few half plucked pheasants splayed across a sheet, a crate of sunsettia’s, and a rather lofty pile of dried firewood. Shoving your hand into your pocket, you curl your fingers around the pouch of mora that felt far too light for your liking. Straightening your shoulders, you offer Draff a smile.
“I’m out of everything,” you admit with a nervous laugh, “But I’ll settle on as much wood as I can carry, medical supplies, and some clothing if Allan or Jotun can part with anything.”
Draff gives you a quizzical look, “Why not head into the city?” He asks, rubbing his calloused hands across his scraggly goatee, “If clothing’s what you’re looking for.”
“Ah well, I’m not looking for anything fancy!” You exclaim, your cheeks filling with embarrassment, “I just need some new clothes to muck around in the garden and can’t really afford to shell out the mora.”
“I’ll see what I can do for you, kid.”
Draff gives you a smile like he feels some kind of fatherly affection for you. It makes your skin crawl. His own child spent most nights alone in the city scheming in an effort to force him to curb his alcohol addiction. If he did feel something for you, even if it was pity, you didn’t want it. The stench of faux fatherly care makes your stomach roll as a new wave of nausea crashes into your belly.
“Thanks,” the smile you force burns the muscles in your face.
You watch with tired eyes as he scurries away, rounding up a few familiar faces before disappearing into his meat shed. Your expression quickly drops as you plop yourself onto the closet tree stump you could find. Exhaustion tugs at your heart strings, begging for the solace of your bed, even with all the lumps and bumps of your worn mattress.
Marla and Brook pass you with a smile and a cart of freshly washed produce in tow. They carted goods into town for Blanche at the start of every week. With the Summer Solstice on the cusp of the horizon, and the heat of the new season pressing closer, Blanche and Mondstadt’s fruit vendors took smaller shipments throughout the week, lest they wanted their produce to spoil from sitting in the sun all day. Brook only pauses half way down the path to toss you a lustrous red apple with a toothy grin before leaving you to your lonesome.
Turning the apple over in your hand, you examine the pattern in the smooth, silken skin to bid your time. Sweat gathers at the nape of your neck and dribbles down the curve of your spine. No matter how you twist and turn, there's no comfort to be found beneath the brutal beating sun and a sweat damp shirt.
Morning melds into the afternoon as you sit in wait, watching the people of Springvale come together to offer you what little they had. Your stomach twists uncomfortably with each smile and quick, “Thank You” and empty promises of repayment that you press into the palm of their hands. You trek home with a heavy wagon and an even heavier heart. Mentally catalogue how long you’ll be able to stretch your supplies if the man's wound was not as bad it looked. A melody of brains stain your lips, one to Barbatos, another to Rex Lapis, a third to Beezelbub, to any Archon that may receive them and return your wishes swiftly.
By the time you’ve returned home, exhaustion has carved out a space between your bones. Your clothing clings uncomfortably but there is no cool bath in your future. Kicking off your muddied boots, you to look the living room where he lays. His chest slowly rises and falls with each shallow breath he takes. He didn’t die while you were away. You wonder if that was a good sign. The floorboards creak beneath your socked feet as you step closer to him, kneeling into the plush of your rug. You’d need to throw it away, it’s stained with his blood. Reaching out to brush back a few sweat soaked curls you freeze in shock.
A pair of bloodshot, dull blue eyes stare groggily back at you.
He was awake.

"didn't know you were keeping this pretty lady to yourself Chifuyu! How cruel" One of Chifuyu's friends, Mitsyua Takashi, says with a soft croon
It's 7 pm and Maya's just reached Chifuyu's place due to a change of plans. Originally it was supposed to be her and him going to some restaurant to catch up but Chifuyu's friends from middle school had also been pestering him to meet up which resulted in Chifuyu changing plans last minute and bringing Maya to his place to pre-game before going to a club. Chifuyu had picked her up from her apartment and brought her to his apartment where his friends had already come inside due to having the code for his door. "Mitsuya-kun, she's 6 years younger than you" Chifuyu hisses at Mitsuya, hiding Maya behind him
Maya felt her cheeks tinge pink at the attention she was suddenly receiving from all the people in Chifuyu's apartment. There were so many people there and she kind of hated Chifuyu for not warning her earlier. There were mostly only guys here and 2 other girls. Everyone was dressed in typical club attire. Maya herself was in a matching set, a lilac mini skirt and a matching crop top in the same colour. The crop top had a spaghetti v-neck line and was slightly cinched in the center. It was backless, held together by a button she had taken around 10 minutes to do by herself. Both pieces clung to her skin, accentuating her thin body and even somehow making her lack of boobs look bigger. Slightly that is(Maya unfortunately wasn't blessed in that area). The fabric of both pieces were slightly sparkly and she had done matching makeup with it and wore platform heels and a leather jacket on top and two diamond studs in her ears. Of course, she couldn't forget the two necklaces she was wearing. One was a gold oval pendant with a delicate border and the outline of a daffodil flower in the center of it. The second necklace, also gold, was a small butterfly pendant. Maya never exactly took these necklaces off. Yes, she was supposed to remove her jewellery for her job but Sunshine Grove was surprisingly lenient. But still, she always kept her necklaces tucked underneath her shirt and only ever wore stud earrings or none at all at work. "Oh well—"
"Oh my you're so cute" Maya feels her face being grabbed "Matsuno, where have you been hiding her!?"
Maya comes back to face with a tall girl with ginger hair and brown eyes. "Guys please stop scaring her and embarrassing me" Chifuyu grumbles in annoyance at his friends, pulling Maya out of the tall girl's grasp
Maya turned bright red and shifted on her feet, unsure of what to say in front of so many people who were clearly older. "This is Kaneko Maya. 5 and 6 years younger than all of us" Chifuyu says "stop scaring her I swear to god"
Maya waves nervously and the room gets quiet for a moment. She shifts. Oh man, this was a bad idea. She should have just told Chifuyu that they could reschedule but her damn lovesick brain just accepted the offer of going with him and his friends. What felt like hours to Maya was a mere few seconds to everyone else and they all started introducing themselves to her. Well, all except for the ginger-haired girl, Shiba Yuzuha's, younger but very tall model brother, Shiba Hakkai(he's apparently afraid of women). Maya doesn't usually drink much. So as the rest of them around her are taking a few shots, she sits on the sofa next to Tachibana Hinata who just doesn't drink at all. Maya can't help but notice the four leaf clover necklace she was wearing. "So when did you and Chifuyu-kun meet?" Hinata asks
Hinata seemed sweet. Like too sweet. Like an angel from fucking heaven. "uh... When I was in middle school... Like 7th grade"
Then comes Hanemiya Kazutora who leisurely takes a seat in front of both of them on the coffee table. Kazutora was Chifuyu's roommate and really the only other person Maya knew here. Maya knew about how Kazutora went to jail in his youth and got out recently but she didn't ask for what. "so how's your job with the crazy people doin' Maya?" Kazutora asks with a grin and Hinata gives Maya a confused look
Maya laughs nervously. "Uh... I'm a psychiatrist... I work at a psychiatric hospital"
"Oh wow... Must be hard work" Hinata says with a smile "That's great that you got hired this young. I heard hospitals rarely hire people fresh out of university"
Maya nods. "Yeah got rejected by everyone at first and ended up at this shitty psychiatric hospital, Sunshine Grove, just outside of Tokyo. They pay well but the place is scary"
"Sunshine Grove, huh" Kazutora says slowly as if trying to remember where he heard the name of the hospital
But Kazutora's thoughts are cut off by Draken, a super tall intimidating guy with a dragon tattoo on the side of his head, calling them and telling them it is time for them to leave. The room is filled with hooting from the boys. Maya can't help but laugh a bit. Chifuyu's friends were nice. "Come on Maya, we're gonna have so much fun tonight" Yuzuha says pulling her off the couch
They make it to the club not too long later. Maya is linking arms with Hinata and holding hands with Yuzuha. The lineup is pretty big and Maya wonders how long it will take for them to get in. But to her surprise, the boys are all walking straight up to the entrance. "Huh? shouldn't we get in line?" Maya asks Hinata
Hinata and Yuzuha look at each other for a moment then at Maya. "ah~ the boys know the owners" Hinata explains "we always come here since it's the safest out of all the ones they own"
Hinata's words raise a few red flags in Maya's head. Safest out of all the ones they own? What did that even mean? "a friend's I'm assuming" Maya says as they reach the bouncer
Yuzuha scoffs. "Please, the last thing any of them would call each other is friend"
That concerns Maya even more. If they weren't even friends, why the fuck were they here. They make it to the front of the line and instantly the bouncer starts letting them in but stops Maya. "Hey, she's with us too" Mitsuya says lowly and Chifuyu looks pissed now
The bouncer scoffs. "I know you guys are special guests of the Haitanis but I'm sure they wouldn't want a minor in the club either. ID"
Maya feels embarrassed by this. She pulls her phone out of the inside pocket of her leather jacket, takes her ID out of her case, and hands it to the bouncer. "Birth year?" The bouncer asks
Her cheeks burn in embarrassment as all of Chifuyu's friends watch the entire thing play out. "1996" She squeaks out
The bouncer looks between her and the ID card a few times then gives it back to her and lets her in. "Oh god that was embarrassing" Maya whimpers to Chifuyu who now has an arm around her shoulder, guiding her through the club up to the VIP section
"It's fine Maya" Chifuyu says with a laugh into her ear over the loud music "Can't control how young you look"
Her heart beats faster when she feels Chifuyu's breath against her skin. He guides her to sit in the VIP booth and then slides in next to her. His arm goes around her shoulders once again as he talks to his friends. Maya feels her face go pink. Thankfully the lights are dim and no one could tell. "let's go get the ladies some shots" Mitsuya says and drags Hakkai and Draken with him
"Fuck I have a feeling all of us are gonna black out tonight" Kazutora says with a laugh
The music is more muffled in the VIP section. Maya wonders if it's because of the connection Chifuyu and his friends have with the owners that they're able to be here. Honestly speaking, despite having known Chifuyu for so long, she's never been to the club with him. It was usually only restaurants, cafes, parks and just fun places like that. This was the first time Maya was out clubbing with Chifuyu. "You okay?" Chifuyu murmurs into her ear, her breath brushing against her skin
Maya's heart beats faster at the feeling and she suppresses a shiver. Chifuyu's arm around her shoulder tightens and he pulls her a bit tighter into his side. "listen, anything happens tonight, you're not feeling well, something does something, everyone is here for you. Not just me, okay?" He says and Maya almost flinches when she feels his lips brush against her ear "Understand"
She almost can't respond. "Y-Yeah... I understand"
Chifuyu is probably tipsy because he kisses her cheek and turns around to talk to Kazutora. Maya sits there stunned and if it weren't for the flashing neon lights, everyone would see how flushed her face was. She lets out a shuddery breath and gulps, hoping no one saw that. Thankfully everyone was too tipsy to actually notice and soon after Mitsuya, Draken and Hakkai bring more shots, they drink some more and everyone is drunk. Everyone except Draken and Mitsuya who were apparently the designated drivers for tonight. Jun thinks she's drunk, somewhat. She stumbles off the dance floor away from Hinata and Yuzuha to the bar where the music wasn't as louder. Everyone was scattered around, talking to girls or whoever. She's drunk out of her mind at this point and just one more drink away from blacking out. Just as she's about to call the bartender over, someone stands beside her. "haven't seen you before" someone says,
Maya looks up and sees a very tall guy. His hair is short, coloured purple and black. His skin is pale and his eyes are lilac. Woah he was handsome. "I doubt you could keep track of who comes and goes unless you're here every day" Maya tells him with a smile
The man chuckles. "This is my club sweetheart, I know who comes and goes"
Maya giggles drunkenly, too far gone to remember that Hinata and Yuzuha said the boys weren't that good of friends with the club owner. "Really? You're rich?" she asks and leans in closer
The man sighs and leans in closer as well, with a tentative finger brushing one of her wavy locks behind her ear. "All pretty girls are gold diggers huh?" he says it more to himself than to her
Maya pouts. "'m not a gold digger" She pokes his arms and has to tilt her head back to look at him despite wearing heels "I have student loans and need to pay them off y'know"
The man starts to laugh and he drapes an arm around her shoulders, pulling her in closer. Maya stumbles forward and he catches her against his chest. "I like honest girls..." He murmurs sweetly, sounding like he was crooning
Maya finds herself attracted to the club owner. Not just because of his money but he was definitely very charismatic. Her hands somehow find their way up, hooking her fingers into the belt loops of his pants and he smiles, seemingly satisfied by her action. His free hand comes up and cups her cheek, brushing his thumb against her cheekbone in a gentle affectionate manner. The same way she wanted Chifuyu to touch her. Maya's expression turns sour at the thought of her unrequited love and she turns away from the club owner. "Hey, what's wrong sweetheart?" he asks, holding her cheek again to make her face him "thought we were having a moment"
"Need a drink..." Maya says with a frown as the man keeps his arm tightly around her shoulder
He presses her into his side and chuckles. "yeesh, I know that look" he says and asks the bartender to make her a drink, on the house apparently
Maya looks up at the man and sees he's already looking at her. "So what's your name pretty lady?" He asks
"Maya" She answers, not smiling anymore
She needed more alcohol before she could smile again. The man, however, grins. He's charming and clearly doesn't mind Maya's mood swings. "Haitani Ran, owner of this as you already know"
Maya had a feeling she had heard this guy's name somewhere. She couldn't put her finger on it. But the bartender puts her drink in front of her so she doesn't think about it anymore and basically chugs it. Ran then decides to order shots and Maya might as well be blackout drunk at this point. But at least she wasn't thinking about Chifuyu anymore. "so cute, hm" Ran says pressing her into his side
His skin was warm and despite how sweaty the club was now, Maya couldn't help but like it. Ran smelled really good too. Like that expensive cologne she smelled at Sephora the other day when she went shopping with Chifuyu. Jo Malone if she remembered correctly. "You've got this lovesick look in your eyes" Ran says as he holds her cheek in one hand, making her tilt her head back so she is looking right at him
(Eye contact was important for Haitani Ran. It was the way into a woman's heart after all.)
"I do?" she mumbles drunkenly, practically leaning into Ran at this point who didn't mind, holding her up against his side
"Yeah, someone break your heart?" Ran's tone is condescending but also holds a sense of curiosity in it
Maya groans. "Not yet" she pouts, her words starting to slur together "he doesn't like me back... Haven't confessed to him 'cause I know he doesn't like me... Says 'm too young for 'im"
She feels dumb dumping all her feelings to a stranger but she's far too intoxicated to care. There was no harm done anyway. "poor little girl" Haitani Ran coos, his tone almost mocking as he runs a hand through her hair "I guess he's missing out on the fun of younger girls, hm..."
He sounds dangerous. Scary. Had Maya been sober she would have run far away from Haitani Ran the moment he came up to her. But with the mixture of the alcohol and her lovelorn state, it was hard to really get a grasp on reality and the dangers of this situation. "younger girls are adorable and real needy" Ran murmured, looking down at her "You sure are needy"
Maya wanted to retort, say something back but she finds herself getting a bit lost in her own head trying to come up with a response to him. She just stares up at him until she's suddenly ripped out of Ran's arms. "Hands off Haitani" A familiar voice warns as her back is now pressed against someone's chest
Maya looks down at her waist where a strong arm is tightly wrapped around her and she faintly recognizes Mitsuya's rings and watch. "Oh, this one of yours Mitsuya?" Ran says with a chuckle "C'mon don't be greedy. Was just havin' some fun"
She feels Mitsuya hold her tighter and Maya's knees feel weak so she leans back against him. "We all know what your version of fun is. Take videos and use them till they're dead. Leave her alone" Mitsuya says angrily
Maya can't see Mitsuya's face but she can assume he's probably pissed as hell. "What's going on?" she slurs, turning her head back to look at Mitsuya
Mistuya and Ran are having a staring contest— Mitsuya looking pissed off and Ran just smiling like nothing is wrong. Maya on the other hand is too drunk to really care. Mitsuya is pissed off and Maya is admiring how hot he looks angry like an absolute idiot. Were all of Chifuyu's friends this hot? She sighs dreamily, admiring the way Mitsuya's neck tensed when he got angry. God-fuckin-damn. "stay away from her Haitani" Mitsuya hisses
Ran only laughs. "You're not a part of Toman anymore Mitsuya, I have no need to listen to you" He walks closer to them and leans down so he's on eye level with Maya "We've only kept our hands off Shiba and Tachibana out of respect for Mikey and Kisaki and for the sake of old times... Else—"
"Shut up" Mitsuya says before Ran can say anything else and looks down at Maya, hoping she is too drunk to remember any of this
Chifuyu had explicitly told all of them he didn't want Maya to they used to be a part of Tokyo Manji Gang and Mitsuya wanted to respect his wishes. "Not her" Mitsuya says and it's not up for discussion
Mitsuya drags her back to the booth and makes her sit down. He's standing over her, holding her face in his hands checking for injuries or something. Maya doesn't know. Mitsuya's cold hands just feel really good to her heated skin right now. "You sure have a thing for attracting dangerous people, hm?" Mitsuya says with a laugh, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear
Maya just stares up at Mitsuya, openly admiring him now and he laughs. "fuck you're cute" He coos and ruffles her hair like she's a little kid
Maya doesn't really remember what happens after that. She was up with a pounding headache in Chifuyu's room, lying in between Yuzuha and Hinata who were snoring away. They were both still in their outfits from last night as well as Maya. But she had a familiar zip-up hoodie over her two-piece outfit. Chifuyu's grey hoodie sits on her shoulders and Maya's heart flutters. Had she not been feeling like absolute shit, she would have been squealing and kicking her legs like a middle school girl. But Yuzuha and Hinata were still sleeping so she kept herself quiet. She carefully gets off the bed, trying her best not to wake the other girls and picks her purse off Chifuyu's bedside table and heads to the bathroom connected to the room. She closes the door and turns on the light and gasp seeing her face. Her mascara was running down her cheeks like she'd cried and her lipstick was smudged. Maya shudders at the thought of all of Chifuyu's hot friends(and Chifuyu himself) having seen her like this and pulls out makeup wipes from her purse. It was a good thing she kept makeup wipes, moisturizer and things like that in her purse. Thank god for Sephora and other brands selling mini versions of their products. Once Maya gets her face clean and fixes her hair she leaves the bathroom and picks her phone up from the bedside table, leaving her purse there instead. As expected, her phone was dead. She puts it on charge and sighs. Yuzuha and Hinata were still dead asleep. The digital clock in Chifuyu's room shows it was 10:45 am. Maya zips up the hoodie about half way and heads out of the room silently so she didn't wake the other girls up. As she heads for the kitchen, she hears voices.
"Haitani is a fucking bitch" That was Draken
"Did he try anything?" Now Chifuyu
"She was too drunk to tell me anything but I don't think so" Next Mitsuya
Huh? What were they talking about?
"All that matters is that she's alright" Now that was a new voice
Maya pulls down the end of her mini-skirt and walks over to the kitchen. Immediately their conversation stops. The boys all look at each other nervously and before Maya could say anything, Mitsuya speaks up first. "Good morning Maya, I made soup. You probably feel like shit"
Maya just nods and looks at the newcomer who was wearing a suit and looks slightly awkward right now. "Oh yeah uh... this is Tachibana Naoto, Hina-chan's younger brother" Chifuyu says "and Naoto this is Kaneko Maya"
They both greet each other and Maya takes a seat at the dining table next to Kazutora who looks like he doesn't want to be up right now, his duel coloured hair sticking up in multiple directions. As Maya looked over at the couch she could see Hakkai knocked out, snoring away, sleeping in a somewhat uncomfortable-looking position. As Maya slowly sips the soup Chifuyu starts talking about what Naoto does. "He's a detective. Handling the Tokyo Manji Gang case right now" Chifuyu says with a grin
Maya nods. "Oh that's cool. I'm a psychiatrist"
Naoto seems genuinely interested. "Really? Where do you work?"
"Sunshine Grove. It's like outside the city—"
"Sunshine Grove?" Naoto's voice completely changes "You work at Sunshine Grove?"
Maya nods slowly. "Yeah..."
Naoto looks worried and that makes the rest of the boys worried as well. "Why what's wrong?" Draken asks the detective
Naoto shakes his head. "Uh... Insider info. I found out Toman's number 3 is possibly admitted in there for cocaine addiction"
Maya raises a brow. Now that was news. She had no idea someone like that was admitted to Sunshine Grove. "Wait seriously?" Kazutora is wide awake now and the rest of them have dark expressions on their faces
"Apparently," Naoto says "It's not confirmed but, it's what my sources say"
They all look toward Maya as she's drinking her soup. Her eyes widen realizing they were expecting an answer from her. "O-Oh... I wouldn't know. I don't work with the patients who are there for addiction. That's second floor, I work fourth floor with the criminals"
Mitsuya starts to laugh while Chifuyu groans. "C'mon I thought I told you to tell them to switch you to another floor" He complains
Maya only pouts. "4th floor makes more money"
Mitsuya laughs even harder at that. "see I told you. She just attracts bad people"
"Do not!"
Later when Hinata and Yuzuha wake up, Naoto insists on exchanging numbers with Maya. "I know there is this whole doctor-patient confidentiality thing and I won't push it... But um... If there is ever anything wrong, please tell me" The detective says with a small smile, his suit jacket now worn by his older sister
Maya nods and they exchange numbers. Hakkai and Yuzuha leave not long after and then followed by Mistuya and Draken. "I saw that~" Kazutora teases
Maya pulls the hood of Chifuyu's hoodie over her head and collapses on the couch. "Saw what?" she asks, bringing her bare feet up on the couch, sitting in a kind of fetal position
"Naoto's got the hots for you~" He says in a singsong voice
Maya narrows her eyes. "Nah uh!"
"100 percent. I saw it too" Chifuyu says teasingly from the kitchen where he is washing the dishes "he was blushing so damn hard. So fuckin' cute"
"Shut up" she grumbles
Maya had in fact not noticed any of what Kazutora and Chifuyu were talking about. She had been too preoccupied looking at Chifuyu to really look at Naoto. Now she just feels bad. Naoto was about 4 years older than her, of course, Chifuyu was encouraging this. Chifuyu had never been a huge fan of age gap relationships especially if it's more than 3-4 years. Maya, as a psychiatrist, does not blame him. But oh how she wished she was born earlier so Chifuyu would at least look at her as something other than a child that hangs around him. She figures it was alright. Even if she were the same age as Chifuyu, she wouldn't have confessed anyway.
Why?
He just doesn't like her that way.
Tumblr media
Monday comes along pretty fast as usual. Maya clocks in and greets the other doctors leaving from the day shift. She does her usual, give all the 4th-floor patients their food, collect their trays, bring the cart back down to the 1st floor then come back up and give either Mr. Ueda company or talk to Mr. Kurokawa if he is awake. "You know, you're rarely asleep," Maya says taking a seat on the chair in his room "When do you sleep?"
"I'm in here all day, I sleep when I want," Izana says simply with a shrug "You on the other hand doctor, I still don't understand why someone as young as you would take the night shift. You still have a lot of living to do"
His words sounded oddly ominous. But Maya just shrugs that feeling off with the thought of it just being her nerves and not yet used to the night shift among criminals. "I do my living on the weekends, Mr. Kurokawa," Maya tells him "went out clubbing this weekend and got blackout drunk... Wait you don't have a problem with alcohol do you?"
Maya realizes she had a slip of the tongue. She wasn't supposed to be talking about alcohol or things like that with patients. "Calm down doctor, I think we're past the point of a normal doctor and patient relationship. I basically know everything about you. And no, I don't have an alcohol problem. I'm not here for that" Izana says with a lazy grin "How about you continue your story"
Maya shifts a bit in her seat. She looks at the small notebook in her hand and flips through the pages to where she had written down possible offences and the possible things wrong with Izana. She crosses off alcoholism. So far the ones circled were abandonment issues, mommy issues, narcissism and sociopathy. She was starting from scratch with him so she had to make some assumptions. "Um... Well... Went clubbing with that guy I told you about on Friday. He's..." She pauses trying to find the right words "Older... like about 5 years"
"You like older men, doctor?" Izana is teasing her and it works, her cheeks flush
Maya clears her throat. "Anyways..." she grumbles "I met his friends for the first time... They were nice. We went to a club, and got blackout drunk. Everyone ended up crashing at his place and in the morning one of the girl's younger brother came to get her... He was a police officer and now my crush is trying to set me up with him"
Izana laughs. "Police officer? A psychiatrist and a police officer. That sounds chaotic"
Maya just shrugs. "Forget that, he's trying to set me up with someone else and it's just... ugh" she groans
Izana laughs even more. He seems to be enjoying her misery. "Don't laugh at me" she whines "You're probably single too"
Izana gives her a mocking smile. "I don't have a lack of ladies, doctor"
Maya doesn't doubt him one bit. Izana was handsome. She can imagine him being the center of attention wherever he goes despite his condescending behaviour. Some girls were into that after all(Maybe Maya too). They end up dropping the topic and soon another starts and then another. Izana tended to avoid talking about his past, particularly his childhood. Maya would try her absolute best not to push it. However, after spending hours of the night just talking, the topics would shift into typical first-date or ice-breaker questions. "So if money wasn't a problem where would you live?" She asks
"Money isn't a problem, doctor. I'm rich" Izana tells her "I can live where I want. What about you?"
Maya thinks for a moment. "The beach"
"The beach?" He repeats "Really?"
Maya shrugs. "Yeah, why not? Warm weather all the time, nice view. It'd be nice"
Izana hums, seemingly agreeing with her. "I can agree with that. I have a beach house. Bought one recently because my younger brother likes the sea"
Oh? He has a brother? "that's sweet... how much younger is he than you?" Maya can't help but start jotting things down in her notebook again
Izana watches in amusement. "3 years. An annoying little shit sometimes but he does what I say because I'm all he has left"
Now that was ominous. "hm... What do you mean?" Maya asks slowly, furrowing her brows
Izana doesn't say anything after that. At the end of the night before Maya leaves, Izana speaks up. "You know when I get out of here, you can come visit my beach house" He suggests with his usual lazy grin
Maya laughs a bit. "I don't think that's very appropriate Mr. Kurokawa"
She bids him goodbye and Izana sighs, staring at the metal door. "Well see about that, doctor"

My Larrikin headcanons because all the cool kids have done it so I'm gonna do it too (long post ahead. Like Really long)
-Vitakinetic, specializes in emergency healing, although I am constantly on the edge of making him a teleporter instead. My friend @theathefool suggested the idea of him being ambidextrous and I honestly think that's a great idea. Actually they deserve like 50% of the credit for these headcanons
-Grew up in a mortal family on a farm and had several siblings. As a teenager he started craving adventure and left on amicable terms to join a circus as a trapeze artist/juggler
-He discovered his magic during his time at the circus. He also learned about the slower aging of sorcerers, which was quite a shock considering he had very few years left to visit his family before they'd start wondering why he wasn't aging
-He kept writing letters though, telling heavily toned down stories of his adventures and the people he'd met. He ended up faking his death in his late 90s, after his siblings and parents had all died
-It didn't take much effort physically, he asked someone with different handwriting to write the letter about him having been lost at sea or fallen into a volcano. It was a very hard day for him mentally though. It was like letting go of the final pieces of his family and mortal life
-When he was about 20 he joined the sanctuary in order to be able to help more people
-Has been with the sanctuary since before the Dead Men were formed, but didn't see much combat before joining them because of how valuable he was as a healer
-Actually one of the oldest of the dead men, like he's the 3rd or 4th oldest
-Undiagnosed ADHD
-Genderfluid, is fine with most pronouns on most days
-Also he's chimeristic, as in the genetic mutation chimera, not the mythological creature chimera. It's an odd hc I know, it stems from me making her catified design a chimera. This isn't really visible in any way other than parts of his hair being brown instead of ginger and small patches of his skin being ever so slightly darker
-About 6'0 and pretty strong too, like not to the same degree as Ghastly or Anton but like strong enough to pick up and carry any of his squadmates if needed. Even Ghastly or Anton
-They're a himbo basically, except they're actually pretty streetsmart, they just choose to participate in shenanigans because it's fun and gets a laugh out of people
-That's one of the reasons he and Dexter get along so well, both of them have a sharp head on their shoulders but commit tomfoolery because it's fun
-He just likes making people laugh
- She works with Kenspeckle Grouse during the war, and surprisingly enough they get along very well!
-Of course Kenspeckle acts grumpy about Larrikin's antics, but the sanctuary medbay simply wouldn't be the same without them to lighten the mood
- Their weapon of choice is a pair of daggers, and he will not hesitate to use them if someone he cares about is in danger
-Very optimistic and friendly, but not naive. They've seen a lot of stuff, and staying positive is very much a deliberate choice for them
-Acts quickly and almost impulsively, especially in high-stakes situations. They often put themselves in harm's way to help others without even completely realizing it until some time later. Basically it takes a while for the self-preservation part of his brain to catch up
-Ghastly thinks he's the bees knees because he'll wear literally anything which gives him room to experiment. He'll be like "can you model this rococo-esque punk rock inspired dress for me? I need to see how it looks on a real person" and Larrikin will be like "oh hell yeah!!" without a fail
-Also Ghastly's the one who always notices when his nd friends are under/overstimulated and suggests something that could make them feel better. For Larrikin it's some sort of physical activity or healing someone
-Actually everyone likes Larrikin
-He and Erskine both have massive levels of theatre kid energy, they get along well but their theatrics are quite the experience for bystanders
-Just to be clear I'm speaking of an "all the dead men go to therapy and the betrayal does not happen" au. If the betrayal happened or even *almost* happened, Larrikin would hate Erskine's guts. As I said, he takes bad things happening to his friends very seriously
-Larrikin and Skulduggery are not allowed to go on missions with just the two of them. It's like tossing a molotov cocktail in a gasoline container.
- Larrikin saved Hopeless's life back in the late 1800's (when they would've otherwise died) and Hopeless saves Larrikin's life during the confrontation with Serpine. Every once in a while during the war Larrikin would also convince Hopeless to help him pull off some sort of good-natured prank with their shapeshifting
-He's also friends with Saracen (spoiler alert: all of the dead men get along :D) and also very thankful for his ability to know things, like he can literally detect most acute injuries on a person. He's also the one that kept dragging Anton to get medical help instead of trying to deal with injuries on his own, and is therefore the reason for how Larrikin and Anton first started talking
-Honestly I could write a whole separate post on Larrikin and Anton. They weren't immediate friends, Larrikin would initiate conversations with him before the Dead Men were formed, and Anton would answer briefly and be polite but still super closed off
-After the DM are formed they start slowly becoming friends, not just because all of the DM end up getting more serious injuries and having to come to the medbay more frequently, but also because Larrikin's the one who volunteers to substitute for any member that can't make it to a mission
-During those missions they end up spending more time together because Larrikin is very adamant about making sure Anton's doing alright whenever he's used his gist and keeping him company whenever he can
-Anton's hesitant about letting anyone be that close to him, especially when he's in a weak state. He likes the company (although he's hesitant to admit it) and not being alone with his thoughts, but he has that mindset of always having to keep his guard up and not showing any sign of 'weakness' and such. After a while he starts warming up to the idea that maybe he can't/shouldn't/doesn't have to deal with everything alone, though
-And that maybe sometimes when you talk about your feelings and weaknesses they won't be used against you
-And of course whenever Larrikin's injured Anton's the one to keep him company and try his best to comfort him. He might be awkward but he's got a comforting presence and, like Larrikin, finds taking care of people very important
-He also helps Larrikin with accepting that they're allowed to be upset about things too and there's nothing wrong with not being able to look at the bright side of things every time
-Actually by the time Larrikin sends the final letter to his family they've already known each other for 30+ years, so Anton might have been the one to write it for him. Either him or Kenspeckle
-Seriously these two bring out the best in each other once they get past the initial awkwardness
-The birthday incident marks the moment where 1. They actually become really close and 2. Larrikin realizes that they actually like Anton romantically
-It's one of those cases where everyone else knew it before they did. Even Corrival knew. Meritorious probably knew. Hell, Serpine was probably aware of it
-The point they actually confess their feelings for each other is after the Corpse Attack in Denmark is well and truly over. It's very heartfelt and they've both just almost died
-After the war ends they end up establishing the Midnight Hotel. They plan it together after hearing of people like Serpine getting off the hook
-Because the hotel travels around he also has the opportunity to help lots of people
-They get to have a happy and relatively normal married couple life with lots of cats
-Oh yeah they get married at some point. They decide who walks down the aisle based on who has a living parental figure. That would be Larrikin, who asks Kenspeckle to do it. He can't even try to act grumpy about it because he is so moved by being asked to do it and probably cries the whole ceremony
-The Dead Men are the best men
-Whenever mortals stumble into the hotel they pretend that it's a ghost hotel by being vague and mysterious but insisting on them leaving within 12 hours
-Larrikin goes all out on it, he coughs fake blood into a handkerchief and then goes 'oh don't worry, it's not contagious. Not anymore, at least'. Anton's more vague about it but has a full backstory for his character made up in his head
-They also get the chance to wear their old clothes and speak in an old fashioned manner. Sometimes guests join in as well. Larrikin gets to release their inner theatre kid
-He also probably hosts some sort of events for the hotel, like ghost story night etc
-Also Larrikin and Val would get along great, Larrikin would remind her to spend as much time with her mortal family and just doing normal teenager stuff
-Oh and Larrikin and Tanith would be besties. I do not take criticism. I mean seriously think about it! They've both got similar chaotic vibes, they both specialize in bladed weapons, and I could keep going and going with similarities

The base is then transferred to a tank and mixed with saline solution, which creates a mash known as Moromi. Several months of aging follow, when various organic processes occur lactic acid, alcoholic and organic acid fermentation take place to create a unique flavor. Then Moromi is pressed through layers of fabric for around 10 hours to extract the raw product. Then it is left for 3 to 4 days, pasteurized using steam, which stops the enzymic activity. The final product is ready for inspecting and bottling.

NEOTONICS: A Comprehensive Review
⛔ NEOTONICS - (⚠️WATCH THIS!⛔) - NEOTONICS REVIEW – NEOTONICS REVIEWS - NEOTONICS SKIN
Welcome to this in-depth exploration of Neotonics, a groundbreaking health supplement specifically engineered to address the fundamental causes of skin issues and premature aging. In this Neotonics review, we present you with the latest and most relevant information regarding this skin supplement, including its mechanisms of action, ingredients, potential side effects, and its worthiness for potential purchase.
📌 Introduction: What is Neotonics?
Neotonics emerges as an innovative health supplement meticulously designed to combat the underlying factors that contribute to skin problems and premature aging. Meticulous scientific investigation has unveiled the pivotal role of cell turnover in the aging process of the skin. This intricate process involves the replacement of aged skin cells with fresh ones, culminating in a youthful, resilient, and luminous complexion.
📌 Mechanisms of Action: How does Neotonics Work?
Neotonics operates by targeting the core catalyst behind skin issues and premature aging, intricately connected to gut health. The process of cell turnover, a cornerstone for maintaining youthful and firm skin, is notably influenced by the gut and its microbiome. As the gut ages, its capacity to regulate cell turnover diminishes, hastening the aging of the skin.
📌 Key Ingredients: The Power of Neotonics
The effectiveness of Neotonics stems from its nutrient-rich components, synergistically orchestrated to harmonize the gut microbiome, amplify skin health, and invigorate collagen production. Let's delve into the pivotal ingredients constituting Neotonics: Babchi, Dandelion, Fennel, Fenugreek, Inulin, Lemon Balm, Organic Ceylon Ginger, Organic Lions Mane, Slippery Elm Bark, and Bacillus Coagulans.
📌 Benefits of Neotonics Usage:
Neotonics extends a multitude of advantages, including:
Harnessing the potential of natural ingredients with clinically proven benefits for gut and skin health.
Renewing and revitalizing the skin, reinstating a youthful radiance.
Elevating collagen production and fostering connective tissue and skin vitality.
Nurturing a wholesome gut environment through prebiotics and probiotics.

Cultivating beneficial bacteria for holistic gut health.
Providing cellular-level antioxidant protection, mitigating damage.
Firming the skin, reducing pore prominence, and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.
Mitigating skin irritation and infection risks.
Supplying vital nutrients to enhance gut and skin health.
📌 Conclusion: The Impact of Neotonics
In summation, Neotonics stands as an avant-garde health supplement that squarely addresses the root causes of skin problems and premature aging by focusing on gut health. So what do you like to cook? How did you begin cooking? How did you learn?
I like to cook really simple food with fresh ingredients.. (I don't buy anything with conservatives or colorants obviously...) I wouldn't call it Italian food per se... I am much more interested in the Mediterranean ingredients themselves than any specific type of cooking.. although I do like the structure of the Italian meal: antipasto(they say you should never start eating on an empty stomach), primo, secondo, contorno, nuts and fruit.. really long and drawn out, jovial conversation ideally. I never force people to eat big portions (I believe forcing people to overeat is abusive, although I know it can stem from food insecurity)... I like to put the dishes in the center so the eater can choose how much they want on their own plate.
Weekday cooking around here splits the long meal into two... lunch: primo & salad... dinner: secondo & contorni... and that makes sense and seems nice to me although I am not an expert on nutrition... I personally prefer to have pasta for lunch as opposed to dinner, not everyday of course, other kinds of primi: polenta, risotto, farro salad, pesto-y orzo, hearty minestra, etc...
I describe the food I make like this: inspired by typical daily dishes, but lighter, always keeping vegetable dishes meatless (there is a tendency to add animal fats to everything here..) all my cooking is produce forward anyway. If I am preparing a full meal, I put equal importance on primo/secondo/contorni (sides): portion sizes I guess I mean... for example: not too much pasta, a smallish piece of meat or fish and a lot of vegetables! Plus I like to wait kind of a while between courses... I like to rearrange familiar flavor combinations and also do experiments.. (when Matteo eats something I prepared we play this game where he guesses all the ingredients/spices/which region the olive oil is from/etc..)
Anchovy (garum/fish sauce), fennel (bulb, seeds, dried yellow flowers), and lemon (fresh and preserved in salt) are my favorite flavors. I also love coffee and chocolate. The significant importance of "broth" is always on my mind. I save all kinds of scraps in the freezer to make special broths depending on the dish or my mood or the weather. I collect salt because I think its type/size is also of significant importance. The iconic pancake is something I treasure... not just the American kind we know and love in the modern world (with maple syrup which I also treasure)... but also the way it seems each culture has their own version of a "pancake", at least something cooked on a hot flat surface, sweet or savory it doesn't matter, even the kind I read about in the ancient Roman cookbooks... with warm honey or covered in poppy seeds or used to soak up sauce... the point is I think pancakes are a brilliant idea that comes from the deep collective consciousness. I rotate through a few key "Rachel" recipes, and if you know me then you know what they are because I really prepare them often: pancakes are one of them... some particular soups... "fake parmigiano" (almonds/cashews/miso/salt blended)... polenta with a poached egg... whole roasted fish... pasta arrabbiata... arugula pesto... tortilla di patata... meatballs... wilted garlic-y bitter greens... broccoli pasta. zucchini pasta. braised radicchio...  sweet and sour bell peppers... slow cooked potatoes and fennel (sometimes blended)... fennel/orange/black olive salad... cabbage/celery/apple/lemon/almond salad... red cabbage and red onion risotto... breaded and roasted thickly sliced white onions... my famous chocolate and olive oil cake... ginger bread... wine and black pepper biscuits...  etc. I am always searching for satisfaction/balance of the taste buds (mine and others) and I love when I feel it. I remember everyone's dietary restrictions, even people I barely know. It means a lot to me to share off the same plate with someone.
I guess the first real memory I have of cooking myself is breading zucchini (flour, egg, breadcrumbs) and frying it to eat with sour cream... maybe I was 8 or 9. I have a lot of food memories from my childhood. My nonna (who immigrated to the states when she was 12) always cooked big Sunday meals and I would watch her. And my great grandma on the other side kind of reminded me of Julia Child and I remember she always had a bowl of freshly whipped cream in the fridge that we would eat with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top.  I also watched a lot of Food Network shows when I was young, Nigella Lawson & Ina Garten. Once I lived on my own, I started cooking with my friends, but I never imagined I would work in the restaurant industry. There were some particular friends along the way who left a mark on my cooking journey, by giving me a nice sharp knife (I always used the standard "nonna knife" before then), or showing me techniques and foods and restaurants I had never heard of. Then I guess in SF is where I started working in professional kitchens... the first job I could find when I moved there in 2010 was as an office manager for this tiny, fancy cake shop. It was just the owner and me. She was super hesitant to hire me with no experience running a small business and also with a timid voice, but she saw herself in me and thought it was important that our paths crossed. She's one of those who had done a lot of acid/meditating in the 70s and can see time and space in a different way (we're still good friends and write each other long emails about once a year, she's now retired to Hawaii)... Anyway, I'll never forget one day she was making a taco-shaped cake (this was way before the cakes-shaped-like-other-things movement was trendy!) and she was struggling making enough white chocolate that look like shredded cheese, she was squeezing little piece by little piece between her fingers making each shred individually. The person was coming to pick-up and she was on the verge of a panic attack, so I asked if I could help (she didn't like help with her cakes)... and I found an actual cheese grater and simply graded the block of chocolate so we had enough "chocolate cheese" in a matter of minutes. The next morning she told me to put an ad on craigslist for a new office manager and I thought she was firing me but really she was "moving me to the kitchen" and that's how my baking days started.
After my time in San Fran came to a dramatic end (because of someone who lived on the edge of Lake Merritt actually now that I think of it...) I started working at a bread bakery in Providence. And that was my dream job, and I would still be working there now if it hadn’t gone up in flames (figuratively). Shortly after that, I somehow convinced the chef/owner of Loïe Fuller's to let me cook on the line but only on the busiest nights of the week because I wanted to learn quickly and with him..(he was reading a book about Alice Waters at the time and I came to him with the idea to do a dinner on tuesday nights going off the menu and using up all the food that would otherwise be thrown away... and after a while we did do it, and we mixed it with live music and called it Incidental Tuesdays and it was a hit) anyway, I did learn a lot: about cooking (the chef had learned to cook under someone who headed the kitchen on a marine ship, so my training was not “culinary” but more so “pirate”) and the way restaurants are run (inventory/finances/dynamics/events/etc). That job was really beautiful and I made some important friendships, but it also came to an abrupt end about a year later when that same person flicked lamb's blood on my chef whites as a joke and I walked out on the spot. The next morning (which would be my last shift) he brought me a mason jar full of weed, a fancy nitro-iced coffee, and a hundred dollar bill (that he owed me for screen printing t-shirts) but I quit nonetheless... and started planning a trip to Italy. But now I'm rambling...
Since then, I have worked in some beautiful restaurants and catering projects in Nyc, London, Italy and Western Mass.. I have also done some special pop-ups and secret dinner club events. I could write about cooking a lot more... but I want to answer some of your other questions now.

Herbs or herbal medicines are based on methods of treating people with various herbs or preparations made from them. Generally, the term includes not only preparations made directly from herbs, but also preparations of other plant species.
Medicines made from natural herbs have been used to treat many diseases throughout human history. Written recipes for the herbal medicine manufacturer from herbs are preserved, which were edited five thousand years ago. In fact, for most of history, herbal medicine has been the only medicine that exists.
Today, plants are used to treat various problems and diseases, such as allergies, arthritis, migraines, fatigue, skin infections, wounds, burns, gastrointestinal diseases, etc.
Moreover, herbal soup increases the tone of the body, its resistance to diseases, and unfavorable environmental factors of the environment. Generally, herbal medicine is cheaper than traditional medicine and is generally considered to be a safer treatment method, so many people choose to restore this traditional medical concept.
Herbs are widely used worldwide. The most widely used beneficial herbs in the world include garlic, ginger, turmeric, ginseng, milk thistle, St. John’s wort, ginkgo Biloba, aloe vera, etc.
The global herbal medicine market is about 60 billion U.S. dollars per year. The leaders in the production of such medicine are China, India, Nigeria, and the United States of America. They invest a lot of money in the development of new herbal medicines every year.

Decoctions or water extracts of plants: They are made from dry raw materials by boiling them in a water bath for several minutes. Generally, this method is used for roots and stems.
Infusion: Unlike the previous type, the extraction of nutrients requires several days of infusion. Many teas belong to the same type.

OH PURE HEARTS PEAR CAUGHT GAWKING HOW TO
OH PURE HEARTS PEAR CAUGHT GAWKING SKIN
The plant does well in moderate to bright indirect light, but keep them out of direct sun. Pay close attention to yellow leaves, a common sign of overwatering. Let the top inch or two of soil dry out before rewatering. Philodendron care starts with warm temperatures and open, well-draining soil, that is kept slightly moist, but never sodden.
OH PURE HEARTS PEAR CAUGHT GAWKING HOW TO
Once you learn how to keep one Philodendron happy, the door is open. Certain species may have particular needs, but most have similar requirements. Part of the fuel for Philodendron mania is how easy they are to maintain. Remember that most Philodendron varieties require the same basic treatment as we go through the list, we’ll mention any particular care needed. Some of the newer, rarer, or more in-demand Philodendron varieties can be difficult to track down, but there are so many amazing species and cultivars that lucky finds are everywhere. There are upright clumping and climbing forms, both of which are part of the “Aroid Fever” craze. There are about 450 known species of this South American family and a confusing number of cultivars and hybrids. The 17th century experienced “tulip mania” and the Victorians had “orchidelirium … today we’re seeing a frenzy for Philodendrons. Let’s check out 50 of the most beautiful Philodendron varieties making the charts – if you only know about the common Heartleaf variety, prepare for a big surprise! Philodendron Varieties Once fully frozen, quickly pop them all out and place into a freezer bag or airtight container and return to the freezer. If you’re fond of Philodendrons, you’re certainly not alone! There’s a lot to like: hardiness, robust growth, ease of care, simple propagation, and an incredible diversity of leaf shapes, colors, textures, sizes, and growth habits.
Freeze: Spoon the puree into ice-cube trays and freeze until solid.
If you wish to store longer you can add some lemon juice when cooking the pears.
Refrigerate: Place in an airtight container and store overnight.
Cocktails – when the kids go to bed whip yourself up a fancy cocktail (this Pear Collins sounds delicious!).
Smoothies – add a frozen cube or two to a smoothie.
Baking – use it to naturally sweeten baked goods or as a fat/egg/apple sauce replacement.
Swirling – swirl through oatmeal, yoghurt or ice-cream to add sweetness and flavour.
This deliciously sweet puree shouldn’t be limited to babies! Other great uses include Pear combines great with both sweet and savoury purees. Add before blending or grind the herb to a paste and stir through as needed.
HERBS – Try livening up the puree with a little fresh basil, mint or rosemary.
If using whole spices, remove before blending.
SPICES – Add a little cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, nutmeg or star anise when cooking the pear.
Pears pair beautifully with a range of spices and herbs, why not try… I always encourage parents to experiment with herbs and spices when making baby food.
Blend until smooth – If you wish to add more texture you can mash.
The cooking time will vary depending on how ripe the pears were. It is important that low heat is used or the water will burn off before the pears are softened and you risk them burning.
Cover and cook over low heat until tender.
If you have a steaming basket you can also steam. This does not seem like a lot of water but you want to use scant amounts of water to preserve the fresh taste and vitamins.
Chop and add to a pan with 4 tbsps of water.
Remove stem – cut the pear in half and carefully remove the stem with a pairing knife.
OH PURE HEARTS PEAR CAUGHT GAWKING SKIN
If you prefer you can keep the skin on, but your puree may not be as smooth (depending on your blender.) Wash and peel – wash your pears and use a vegetable peeler to peel.Store pears at room temperature until ripe, once ripe store in the refrigerator. They should ripen in a few days, if you want to speed up the process then store in a brown bag with a banana. What if you have unripe pears? – They can be ripened at room temperature. The pear should be fairly firm with just a little give at the top. How to pick a ripe pear – Press a finger gently into the top of the pear (where the stem joins the fruit).7.4 Recipe Notes Choosing and Storing Pears

How to Develop Stem Cells in Our Body Naturally
Scientists and medical professionals have begun to understand stem cells' ability as a therapeutic possibility for anything from strong hearts to radiant skin. So, curiosity about stem cells and associated medicines has recently increased. It means that a greater supply of stem cells suggests greater longevity and wellness. So why not organically increase this stem cell stream? Depending on the sorts of food we consume, there are various natural methods to promote stem cell regeneration. Our diets have a big impact on how well our bodies heal, and including items that are good for stem cells in our meals is a great approach to encourage healthy cell growth. In addition to a healthy diet and eating routine, calorie restriction has been recognized as a catalyst for cellular rejuvenation.
Tumblr media
 1.      Raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries aid in the body's development of antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) components. This substance aids in lowering oxidative damage, which helps to lessen pain and joint irritation. Flavonoids, which support cellular regeneration and lower inflammation, are abundant in berries.
 2.      Sulforaphane, a compound abundant in cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, aids in the body's detoxifying process by inactivating liver pollutants. Additionally abundant in indole-3-carbinol, which lessens inflammatory reactions in the bloodstream, are these leafy greens.
 3.      Arachidonic acid, which is a primary factor in joint irritation, is inhibited by ginger root, which works to reduce inflammatory responses in the body.
 4.      Proteins and healthy fats are abundant in nuts and seeds. While seeds are packed with plant sterols, which also aid in reducing inflammatory processes in the body, nuts are strong in alpha-linolenic acid, an anti-inflammatory omega-3 protein.
 5.      Polyphenol chemicals, which are substances that significantly contribute to preserving liver cells from destruction by detoxifying processes, are abundant in mushrooms.
As a result, it is clear that the aforesaid foodstuffs for stem cell reproduction contribute to the body's anti-inflammatory responses and are therefore thought to encourage stem cell development and restoration for the expansion of our body's cells. Therefore, it is crucial to include the aforementioned foods in a person's regular diet and always try to maintain a balanced diet.

CSA WEEK 12

CHERRY TOMATOES  - SWEET CARMEN PEPPERS - CAYENNE PEPPER - MELON -
EGGPLANT - CORN - BARBIE CABBAGE - TULSI BASIL - LEMON BALM
I probably announced prior that we are swimming in abundance, but now it’s game on. All tomatoes of every variety are dripping off the stems, and every pepper is literally ripe for the picking.  Late August is the time of year to really think about your winter kitchens.  What from the 2022 harvest do you want to take with you into the colder months ahead?  Aside from the frozen berries in June, our home pantry will be stocked with canned salsa verde, ketchup, roasted cherry tomatoes, roasted peppers, and banh mi pickles to start.  We will also roll out fermenty things when the temps drops (think kimchi and sauerkraut).  If you are curious about stocking up and holding on so deeply to Summer vibes in the form of mason jars filled with pickles and condiments and kimchi, reach out to the farmstand!  You can special-order veg in bulk for all your canning/freezing/ fermenting needs.  Your winter kitchen will thank you.
FARMSTAND VEG BY THE HALF BUSHEL ORDER LINE: 603-298-5764
And while I am writing all of the above food preservation goals, I am also struggling with the honest fact that there are just not enough hours in the day and just not enough days of Summer.  With all there is to harvest, we are still battling the weeds that are still shading out the Summer crops.  Also, there is Fall CSA seeding and planting (which I am so excited about- the mizuna! The ginger! Winter squash! etc).  So when will I actually take time to Winter food prep? Sundays? Yeesh.
There has not been a moment all Summer when any of us have felt “caught up” with the fields. The work is constant, and while we could all probably use a break- we are also total masochists that find great joy in pulling crab grass on 90 degree days and picking cherry tomatoes til dark.  That said, the farm kiddos demand we take breaks, eat snacks, and go for swims, so I might be a little grateful to them for keeping our priorities straight.
In other news this week, aside from the relentless to-do list that just won’t quit, field crew began the great onion harvest of 2022.  Which may or may not turn out so great as these alliums have been living underneath the shade of, yup, more weeds.
But guess who has been getting up early every morning to weed the herb field?  Our hero Mrs. T.. I am pretty sure that every CSA herb from here on out is surviving because of this morning shift.  Future Fall CSAers, take note, there will be parsley, oregano, thyme, thai basil, lemongrass, lemonbalm, rosemary, mint, cilantro, etc…
Pro-tips:
Back to school?: Fill that lunch box with cut up peppers, melon, and cherry tomatoes
Your herbs: Tulsi! Lemon balm! Make tea, and calm your brain.  OR, hang upside down to dry in and store it for winter tea sipping.
Pickled herby charred peppers…
from cookbook Eating Outloud by eden grinshpan
Makes about 4 cups
Growing up, there were always pickled peppers in our fridge. My dad loves them, and we’d take them out whenever we had a smoked meat brunch, or pretty much any other Sunday spread. I’ve made my own version of those peppers, and mine uses a simple pickling technique. Just make sure to char your peppers really well before pickling them so the pickles get fully infused with smoky flavor.
5 bell peppers (a mix of orange, yellow, and red)
⅔ cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 sprigs fresh oregano
¼ cup red wine vinegar
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons torn fresh basil leaves
2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons sugar
• 1 Using a gas stovetop burner or a grill and a pair of long tongs, char the peppers over an open flame until they’re fully blackened and blistered all over. Place the charred peppers in a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a clean towel. Let the peppers steam for 20 minutes.
• 2 When the peppers are cool enough to handle, slip off the skins and pull out the cores and discard. Slice the peppers lengthwise and place them in a large jar with the olive oil, oregano, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, basil, garlic, salt, and sugar. Shake the jar well to mix. Store in the fridge for at least 3 days before using, and up to 2 weeks. Let come to room temperature before serving so the oil can liquify again.
Sabich, a popular Israeli street food, is a pita-busting combination of a bunch of great appetizers. To serve these to a group, you can set out the assorted fillings on individual plates and platters and let guests build their own.
2 tablespoons za’atar
3 garlic cloves, finely grated, divided
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 large or 2 medium Italian eggplants (about 20 ounces), cut into ¾-inch-thick rounds
Kosher salt
½ cup parsley leaves with tender stems
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons chopped chives, divided
½ cup tahini
2 Persian cucumbers, quartered, cut into ½-inch pieces
1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
¼ cup chopped mint
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 cup prepared hummus
3 tablespoons (or more) harissa
½ teaspoon ground cumin
Toasted pita, thinly shredded cabbage, quartered hard- or soft-boiled eggs, and Israeli pickles (for serving)
Place a rack in center of oven; preheat to 450°. Whisk za’atar, 2 garlic cloves, and ½ cup oil in a small bowl. Spoon over both sides of eggplant rounds (about 1 tsp. per side) and rub into flesh. It will absorb, so use all of the za’atar oil! Generously season with salt. Roast eggplant on a wire rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet until tender and beginning to brown in spots, 35–45 minutes.
Meanwhile, pulse parsley and ½ cup chives in a food processor until finely chopped. Add tahini and pulse until smooth. With the motor running, slowly drizzle in ½ cup water and continue to pulse until sauce is the consistency of a thin yogurt; season with salt.
Toss cucumbers, tomatoes, mint, lemon juice, and remaining garlic clove, 2 Tbsp. oil, and 2 Tbsp. chives in a medium bowl; season Israeli salad with salt.
Mix hummus, harissa, and cumin in a small bowl (if you like it spicy, add more harissa).
Generously spread tahini sauce and hummus mixture inside pita. Place a few rounds of eggplant (or one if using a large eggplant) inside. Stuff pita with Israeli salad, cabbage, eggs, and pickles.
AND IF YOU HAVE ANY PEPPERS LEFTOVER, CLAIRE SAYS:
“GRILL(or roast), THEN PLACE IN A FOOD PROCESSOR WITH FETA AND PARSLEY”.
The results are whipped spreadable magic.
