"The trouble with this part of the world is they have too many fairy tales."
I liked the part with Gustav.
This had everything I could ever ask from a vampire movie. Cardboard castles, matte paintings, men in funny hats, superstitious peasants, a cat giving a prolonged blep, and spooky lesbian vampires wandering through the fog in flowy nightgowns with ample cleavage.
Ingrid Pitt was excellent as the seductive vampiress Mircalla, depicting a convincing evil, barely concealed beneath her enthralling charm. The wide-eyed Emma (Madeline Smith) was the very picture of innocent beauty, and made the perfect object for sexy vampire desire gone wrong.
I'm always a sucker for a good vampire hunting scene, especially when it takes them deep into the monster's lair, and Peter Cushing and Douglas Wilmer did a great job delivering on that front. Also the ending had a neat effect of a portrait of Mircalla rapidly decomposing Dorian Gray style, which was certainly appreciated.
A wonderful combination of melodrama and sinister atmosphere. Right up my alley when it comes to horror. I had a great time.
