I've really grown to dislike how most of the people approach s5 Jon (and Martin) time travels back to season one AUs. Because it can be sum up as "no one likes season one Jon, he's so stuck up and grumpy and repressed opposed to future Jon who is much more chill and more fun".

Because I don't think Sasha or Tim disliked s1 Jon? All their conversations seemed always quite friendly and relaxed? They throw him a birthday party. And Jon liked them and thought highly of them as well he asked for them to be transfered to Archives. He understandably disliked only Martin for lack of skills he should have had but did not.

All the negative feeling Sasha and Tim had against him came literally from them thinking Sasha should have been given the position of Head Archivist but that's it. They were even not so much annoyed with Jon but with Elias here honestly.

I would like to see some take when they are all weirded out by s5 Jon. I want season one archival crew bond over how they think s5 Jon is secretive and says ominous stuff all the time (And if s5 Martin is present as well I want them to be annoyed with his bitchy attitude.) Because s5 Jon and Martin could not anymore see the world through lenses on normal human and they would be all "We know what is best for you" while s1 crew would be more "No you don't. Not if you refuse to give us proper explanation. Stop acting like you know better, stop acting as we cannot take care of ourselves."

I feel like Martin could’ve been a really interesting character in tma but so much of the content about him is about jmart and being like “oh he’s so nice!”. Character who should be put on a high up shelf for a tiny bit while the fandom considers it a little maybe. He has a bunch of moments I really liked but I’m not a huge fan of the interpretations most people have.

I got somewhat more rambly than usual and most of my mutuals probs don’t want to see this so:

YEAH SO TRUE!! He is literally so compelling in s4!! There is so much to like about him!! There’s so much I want to know more about and an arc I wish so badly that he’d had!!!…..

But then he just. Kinda didn’t? Like they put a bunch of cool ideas for him on the table then pushed them all off in s5 by giving him nothing to do except nag at Jon which did nothing but make him sound really annoying. Plus like…. He was framed more righteously than before y’know? Like the narrative was leaning into those ‘cute little UwU bean’ interpretations and it just came across as so…. !!!! Like!! Annabelle Cane literally talks about how good of a web avatar he would make so why didn’t we spend ANY of s5 exploring that!! Why did we barely get to explore him at all outside of like 2 lonely based episodes!! Why is everyone convinced that he’s both super smart AND the epitome of moral righteousness!! We’ve only seen him be manipulative once (which lead do the end of the world) and then got a whole bunch of lip service about it and we were straight up told that a lot of his fluffier qualities are a straight up lie!! And nothing interesting comes of this AUGHHHH!!

Sorry for rambling a bit, I just remembered how much wasted potential Martin had and it hurt.

sometimes i think about the tma fandom and get genuinely furious like y'all really let the predominant interpretation of these characters be "jon (a character overwhelmingly portrayed as a moc) is a feral dirty man who's constantly messing up and needs to be straightened out by his female coworkers (who we've flattened out into two dimensional caricatures who are the Reasonable Onestm with no flaws of their own and also hi did we mention one of them is a literal cop who was complicit in excusing her partner's police brutality? no? we're just ignoring that cuz she's canonically a woc so we have to flatten her into the one with the braincell? okay) and his boyfriend (who is overwhelmingly portrayed as white and who can do no wrong in the fandom's eyes despite showing classic signs of emotional abuse in the final season AND whose trauma constantly gets treated as More Valid than jon's, especially regarding their upbringings)"

and tbh canon did very little to dispel these interpretations either especially with that weird framing of the main moral dilemma in the final few episodes and that makes me furious too lmao

I wish people would stop gatekeeping designs in this community. It is a podcast. We only have tiny canon details for each person if at all.

That being said, what the hell is with people tearing others down over body types for Martin? There's different amounts of fat, just like there's different placement of fat deposits in a body, and if you can't be normal about that fact, I WILL block you.

I don't know what to feel about tma2 now (I'm super excited but also other things)

Because it's either going to be bad or good. And if it's good than great! I love The Magnus Archives and I want more (especially since I didn't really like the ending). And if it's bad than also great, I love being a hater and I'll just shit on this show in tma negative tag and will have great time regardless

My actual worries come from how hard Jon was stating that this is a finished story, it's done and he is happy it's over. If you have an idea for a finished story and you seem to be running out of ideas near the end there's zero rezon to make a second sezon. Zero! And Kickstarter thing just makes me think that it's a money issue. Don't get me wrong, creators deserve to get paid for their job. I just rather get podcasts made because the creators genuinely want those stories to be told and not because it's most likely to sell well. I'm just worried we may get a bit sloppy forced fanservice instead a fun new stuff.

I mean, I'm going to be absolutely hipetfixating on this shit no matter what and I'm gonna have fun

But I just worry about what's happening behind the scenes

Once again frustrated with this ending of episode 196 because she makes it sound like it's more than just the Fear entities listening to the tapes and we'll get a cool reveal next episode but guess what

It's just the entities listening to the episode as expected and this line just makes it seem less dramatic than it could have been to talk about the entities being anchored to Jon's voice

Annabelle why the over dramatization only to airball the reveal completely

Edit just to be clear: yes I know there was an allusion/joke that this is referring to us the listeners but (and thankfully so) it didn't pay off as such in 197 canonically. Regardless, this line in itself without that allusion made the actual reveal fall flat for me personally
