I'm thinking about Gintama and the Shoka Sonjuku trio right now and how, at the end of the war, Gintoki and Takasugi vanished into thin air, leaving everyone with no news of their whereabouts, unaware of whether they were alive or dead. It must have been a terrifying time for Gintoki and Takasugi, despite everything they went through during the war, to not know whether or not the other was alive.
But, there was Zura. Zura, who never stopped fighting, and who rose against the oppressors when no one else dared to. Zura, who was wanted by the police, and thus, who had his face plastered all around Japan on wanted posters.
And I like to imagine that, when the fear of the possibility of having lost each others would overcome Gintoki and Takasugi, they would simply wander the streets, and find comfort at the sight of Zura's wanted posters. A proof that the man is alive, doing well, and has not lost his flame, contrary to them (or at least they would believe so).
Just like a lighthouse, Zura's face and dedication would be here to ground them, to remind them that they are not alone, and that their spirit, and Shouyou's, is still alive, no matter what.
