some things re: ruby i've been thinking about

we have an entire episode in s1 (2005) about how someone cannot touch their past self or bad things happen so how could the woman who left her at the church be an older her

unless she's not entirely human? and maybe the rules are different about different species? idk

the doctor has mentioned their own children / family multiple times in just these six episodes -- telling ruby about susan in the devil's chord, repeatedly saying "dad to dad" to the anglican in boom, etc.

ruby and the doctor's stories mirror each other when it comes to their childhoods, abandoned and adopted. but in flux when the doctor confronts tecteun they say "what if i wasn't abandoned, what if someone was waiting to come pick me up." what if there's more to the doctor's story, the doctor's race, the doctor's home that we do not know about. what if it has to do with ruby.

if the woman who left ruby at the church is an older her, we still don't know who she is or where she comes from

i don't believe it at all but whenever i see the woman who leaves ruby on the church i can't get it out of my head that it looks so so so much like jodie 😭

Hi! I hope to not disturb, but as also a they/them, a clown enjoyer and a DW fan, what is your ranking of the episodes of the new DW season? :)

It's cool! I've really been enjoying Series 14 so far, even though I think it's not the best jumping on point for new fans. As an enfranchised fan, getting to see them really try something different in almost every episode is refreshing.

1 - Boom: Worst person you've ever met writes a really good episode of Doctor Who (damn I forgot how good Moffat was)

2 - Dot and Bubble: Might just be recency bias but really enjoyed this one a lot more than I expected.

3 - 73 Yards: Cool vibes, loved the bit in the Pub.

4 - The Devil's Chord: Not the biggest Musical fan but Jinkx Monsoon steals almost every scene.

BIG power gap here FYI

5 - Space Babies: It's ok, it's fine, I don't get what all the fuss is about.

6 - The Church on Ruby Road: A great introduction to Ncuti and Millie, but otherwise really slow pacing imo.

Cannot emphasise how OBSESSED i am with the Doctor being able to hear the show's backing music. Does he have favourites? Does he ever miss the funky classic who tunes?

Its giving Day of the Doctor novelisation, where the Doctor's vision changed when the show's colour grading did.

I love whenever they make allusions to the 4th wall or skirt near it. 1st Doctor talking to the people at home. 4th Doctor's laugh at the camera. 12th Doctor's monologues and playing of the Theme tune. Its all so wonderful.

But to put it in the forefront. To literally have him say " I Thought that was non-diegetic " (music not actually present in the world and only for the audience) to have him WINK at us.

Obsessed is too weak a word for what I'm feeling right now. I love them

what's funny about the devil's chord is that it's a doctor who episode about the beatles that isn't really about the beatles, except how the plot is:

there is a world filled with music

it is attacked by a shrill, campy villain of indeterminate gender who steals all the music

this eventually results in a gray, lifeless, post-nuclear wasteland

the only survivors who can remember music travel using a machine capable of traversing time and space to ultimately

enlist the help of the beatles, who

bring back music by playing together, magically restoring color and life and defeating the villain

which is also the plot of classic 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine. not clear on how intentional this is.
