Been playing re4r again and kind of bouncing off of what sid said about remake ashley recently and how in the OG game, ashley was allowed to be angry and irrational and flawed vs remake ashley where she basically spends the whole time being some type of hype for leon or pitiful and scared..

It makes me so upset that she is never allowed to be Angry. She has these brief moments of resolve (always, of course, surrounding Leon and never herself) I would honestly say the actions inflicted upon Ashley in the remake are far more graphic and worse than the original, and she is never ever allowed to be angry about that, only sad and scared because angry women are not marketable to men. Emotional women are not marketable to men who only want her to be easy to play with and a little boost to their ego when they do a good job. The only hint to a backstory we get about Ashley is that she goes to college and is part of a sorority (one single mention of it) and then that one line from Leon that implies people might have been creepy or predatory towards her in the past (??? still not sure why they even included that if they weren’t going to expand on this implied trauma she has now)

Ashley was kidnapped and brought all the way to Spain (and in remake it’s not even necessarily about her, she’s just a means to an end.), she constantly has her bodily autonomy taken from her in Terrifying ways, constantly put in harms way, and other than Leon checking on her every once n a while we never get to hear how she feels about this. Ashley is the driving force of the game it makes me so sad that we never get to see any emotional depth or any COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED ANGER from one of the Main Characters.

The characters only mentioned in notes around the village and castle have more depth than remake ashley does and it’s so deeply upsetting. So much wasted potential

I hate the “we went back in time and now everything is fixed and nothing that we did actually happened now” ending. Let the consequences exist, do not erase them. Something something learning to grow despite the darkness something something accepting the hard choices that were made something something loving despite the inevitability of fate.

Do not erase the people they became. Do not erase the sacrifice they gave. Do not erase the love they gained.
