Halloween with the Van Der Linde’s - Part Deux
This is part 2 of a Halloween post I did a while back. There are some lame memes of mine that reference part 1 but it’s of course not a necessity to read the first part. If you want to read it - here it is.
Arthur - a pilot from Top Gun - he always thought it would be cool to fly and he loved the movie growing up. He thought about becoming a pilot himself as he loved freedom. However, he hated the idea of joining the air force and he didn’t want to be a commercial pilot.
Dutch and Molly - Molly *really* wants to do Bonnie and Clyde. Badly. So badly. Dutch thinks the idea is too basic. He thought about doing Elvis briefly. Finally, Dutch decided on King Henry VIII and Molly as a princess. Henry VIII was known for his romantic notions of courtly gentlemanly love and all things grand.......but is more famous for how his wives ended up and his politics. (No, that’s not commentary on Dutch but I suppose you could make an argument for some minor similarities). Molly’s dress is indeed based on the deleted Ball Gown dress.
Hosea- David Bowie 100%. He loved David Bowie for decades and since people have said he resembled David, he thought, why not?
John - Like every year, he didn’t want to dress up. He finally “forced himself” to choose a Yellowstone employee shirt....which then caused the family to goad him into adding pizass to his costume...which was a jacket and some spurs.
Abigail -Lara Croft, She watched the kids in one of her foster homes played Tomb Raider and she loved it. She always wanted to be like Lara. The only thing she changed was the shorts into longer pants.
”’My legs get cold, Gosh dang it!”
Sadie - She saw Pearson and Charles dress up like pirates last year and knew she could do a better job. You bet she’d be the most bad ass pirate queen you’ve ever seen....her epilogue outfit even looks like a pirate’s outfit.
Charles - A Jedi and he’s comfortable as hell. He was a comfy pirate last year and intends to be comfty again. He almost convinces Arthur to join him, especially since “Jedi fly ships”. Star Wars gave Charles a lot of comfort growing up and he stills enjoys it through the ups an downs. Then Uncle appears....
Uncle - is a Jedi, too doing bad Obi-Wan Kenobi impressions.......just to follow Charles around and annoy him.
Sean, Lenny and Javier - the three Spider-Men so they can do the Spider-Men pointing meme....just with three Spider-men! Lenny’s back up was Marty McFly, Sean’s back up was Elton John and Javier’s back up was Legolas. Yes, I FIRMLY believe Javier is a “nerd” in the best of ways.
Jack - wanted to be involved, but remembered he was spiderman last year and the year before that so now he’s decided he’s Batman. He was not allowed to watch the Robert Pattinson film, but he’s watched the Kevin Conroy original Batman the Animated Series and loved it.
Kieran - One of the classic Riddler styles, baby! He loves that Jack is Batman - the same version he grew up with. He tells lame riddles all night which annoys some of the gang members, but Jack has a ton of fun trying to figure them out.
Josiah Trelawny - lost a bet and did not get to pick his outfit. He was horrified until…….it was the ladies who picked it out. They picked out Dr. Stephen Strange.
Tilly, Karen and Mary-Beth - Charlie’s Angels. Mary-Beth wanted it last year and they didn’t do it so she INISTED this year. Note: I l literally do NOT know ANYTHING about Charlie’s Angels except that Farrah Fawcett was extremely famous because of it. If you know how to match characters to their personalities, go ahead!
Susan Grimshaw - Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. It’s a fun costume with so many different interpretations so she gets to pick what pieces she wants.
Micah - the Joker Heath Ledger version because he likes doing the impressions. He is monitored around Jack. (Oops, didn’t know I had 3 batman characters on here. Sorry, but I think it works!)
Mr. Pearson - Bob’s Burger and people actually like it!
Reverend Swanson - Gandalf. He has a rivalry with the “Star Wars nerds”, but it’s all in good fun.
Leopold Strauss - doesn’t dress up. He thinks it’s a waste of time. Some of the less festive gang members agree with him. However, he does hand out items like pencils which....is useful at least?
Bill - Freddy Kruger - but does not wear the mask around Jack and his sister. He wants to be able to choose when he’s scary and when he’s not...besides, the Marstons and co would kick his ass. (Jack would probably think it’s cool, though.) (Doing a collage image because watch someone report me for posting a horror costume lol I know people who have been reported for less.)
Rufus - Jack and Abigail decide Rufus will use his good boyness for good and make up for John’s lack of celebration.
Amelia Marston - My name for Abigail and John’s daughter. Abigail and John want to raise a strong little lady so who better than a feminist icon like Rosie the Riveter? (To those who don’t know, Rosie the Riveter was a World War II propaganda figure who encouraged all women to work outside of the home for the war effort - usually in factories.

What is your favourite film that came out in 2001?
ooo so many good films came out that year! It's a hard call, because I really liked ocean's eleven, joe dirt, lara croft: tomb raider, the princess diaries, SHREK, minoes, etc.
shrek has such a special place in my heart, but nostalgia is tugging at me so I'm going to say that the princess diaries is my #1 fav film of 2001! .°˖♡

Idea for a spin-off series to “The Dark Pictures Anthology”:
“The Pictures of Heroism Anthology”
Instead of being modeled after horror movies, the spin-off series is a tribute to action films. The series follows the same set-up as Dark Pictures (five protagonists, making choices to see who’ll survive, narrator guiding you in your choices) but instead of being scary, the stories are more thrilling.
A hypothetical set-up for season 1 could look like this:
1) The Golden Idol of Gajah Mada
(Side Note: For the Curator of the series, I pictured Oded Fehr in the role)
Four treasure hunters and a scholar join forces in their hunt for a lost, golden idol that once belonged to Javanese monarch Gajah Mada. But standing in their way of fame, fortune, and making history are bloodthirsty pirates/criminals and a secret society dedicated to making sure the idol remains long-lost.
Movie inspirations: Indiana Jones, National Treasure, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Romancing the Stone (basically, the treasure hunting action genre)
Who I’d cast as the lead starring actor: Richard Madden (as the swashbuckling leader of the treasure hunters)
2) The Whistleblower
When details of the CIA black-ops program “Archangel” are leaked to the public, in order to protect themselves, the leaders of Archangel decides to “clean house” by wiping out any individual who they deem as a loose end. With nothing left to lose, four Archangel agents who have been marked for elimination decide to join forces with the whistleblower in order to fight back. Either they’ll take the corrupt leaders down…or die trying.
Movie inspirations: The Bourne movies, Black Widow, James Bond, Mission Impossible. Also, Netflix’s The Punisher (not a movie, but still).
Who I’d cast as the lead starring actor: Emma D’Arcy (as the CIA whistleblower)
3) Wrath of the Dragon
A Triads assassin is betrayed by his gang when they assume he became a mole for the police. After being nursed back to health, the assassin, filled with rage and a thirst for vengeance, decides to wage a one-man war against the people who betrayed him. Along the way, the assassin links up with four Hong Kong detectives who are looking to take the Triads down. Despite their opposition to each other, the assassin and the detectives join forces over their shared goal. In the end, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Movie inspirations: Mainly Asian crime dramas, such as Hardboiled, The Protector, The Man from Nowhere, The Raid, Police Story, Infernal Affairs, and so on. Also, John Wick.
Who I’d cast as the lead starring actor: Iko Uwais (as the Triads assassin)
4) Showdown at Maple Grove Inn
As the season finale, an arrogant socialite finds herself targeted by the mob when she accidentally witnesses one of their murders. She manages to take shelter at the Maple Grove Inn, but as night approaches, the inn becomes surrounded by the mob’s mercenaries. Luckily for the socialite, the inn just so happens to be where four badasses (a retired Navy SEAL, an assassin, a SAS operative, and a master thief) were staying for the night. Now, it’s the five of them versus the whole mob army in a violent showdown to the death.
Movie inspirations: Assault on Precinct 13, The Magnificent Seven, 13 Hours, The Suicide Squad, Hell or High Water. In general, modern western action movies.
Who I’d cast as the lead starring actor: Naomi Scott (as the assassin)

For the fanfic meme: 1, 3, 15
What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?
I cut my teeth writing crack RPF about post-punk bands of the 70s and 80s (shoutout to everyone who's still here from way back when), and I also made up a Tomb Raider self-insert OC when I was about nine and feeling trapped by life in the middle of rural bumfuck nowhere.
Do you write fics from start or finish, or jump around?
I almost invariably write from start to finish. I may end up shuffling things around during the editing phase, but I've had better results with believable character development when I'm following their arc as it happens. It's also way too easy, at least for me, to hurry to write all the scenes I'm most excited for and have the moments in between feel rote and dry as a result; whereas, if my journey with a character feels continual, I'm finding something to breathe life into every scene.
A Hollywood producer tells you that they want to film just one of your fics. Which fic would you want it to be?
There's plenty of moments from my FFVII series I'd kill to see brought to life, but that thing really wouldn't work as a continuous single narrative. There's too many moments happening concurrently that don't flow into one another at all. So I'm giving them a license to make an experimental body horror movie out of my story Penitent, with the stipulation that the uncomfortable Oedipal undertones have to stay.

Extremely disappointed but not at all surprised that GameSpot is using Tomb Raider to get clicks out of angry Tomb Raider fans.
Don't drag the most successful woman in gaming history into petty shit.
She's had a two-decade career in gaming, had TWO Oscar actresses portray her in films, and if you take inflation into account, both of Angelina's movies still did better.
Not to mention that Tomb Raider is an actual household name and Lara Croft is a pop culture icon outside of gaming and had that status even before the movies.
On the other hand, no one knows what an Uncharted or a Nathan Drake is outside of gaming, Tom Holland carried the entire production with his name alone.

Not gunna do this on anon but I will send you a curious ask: What other media do you love?
Fair. Oh man, too much.
I'll try to keep it brief and just list some absolute top favorites. The Last of Us is my absolute favorite game, no contest (we do not talk about the sequel). Behind that I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil series of games--it was my intro to horror video games. The Tomb Raider games was my introduction to story-driven video games as well.
The Lord of the Rings movies still remain probably my favorite movies, and had such an impact on me in a number of ways, not the least of which was kickstarting my obsession with film and understanding how movies are made.
I really enjoy horror movies and got way too obsessed with the Scream franchise.
For TV, one of my all time fave shows is Person of Interest. I watch way too much tv and used to buy dvd sets of shows to bingewatch before bingewatching was a socially acceptable thing to do. To list all my fave tv shows would take too long.
I'm not a big podcast/stream person but I got very into Critical Role in college and am still a big fan. Loved the TV show they put out for campaign 1 so far. Also wildly enjoyed both The Adventure Zone: Balance and while I still haven't finished (I know, Max) I really have liked The Adventure Zone: Amnesty. I also got put onto Dungeons and Daddies, which I expected to be funny--and it is--but it's also surprisingly heartfelt.
Thank you for asking!

August music favourites!
Hello, I thought I would make a list of favourite songs I've been listening to. I'm so unoriginal! So here's five songs!
1: "Witchcraft" by Pendulum-
I'm not normally the type for electronic music, but I will make an exception for Pendulum, there's something very hypnotisingly haunting about lead vocalist Rob Swire's voice. It's such a whirlwind of a song, I reckon it could be about someone who is being abused and assaulted by their partner and they want to escape the situation. If you, for any reason haven't checked Pendulum out, go and do it now!
(oh, a little bit of useless trivia, because I know you all enjoy it, if you've heard the song "Rude Boy" by Rihanna, which I'm sure you have, if you haven't, then where the bloody hell have you been for the past 10 years? Swire helped produce the song, and he is the one doing the "hey's" in the background too).
2: "The Steeple" by Halestorm -
Before this song, I hadn't heard of Halestorm but, when I heard this song on Kerrang (I don't know what your country's equivalent would be), you could say that I was absolutely in love with it! I love how Lzzy Hale sings with so much passion and confidence, oh and that sustained belt at the end of the song is nothing short of mind-blowing!
3: "As It Was" by Harry Styles -
Okay, fine... I'll admit it, I actually kind of like Harry Styles' music post One Direction, and As It Was is no exception. This rather upbeat and summery number belies a secret, it's more of a musing on Harry's inner workings, the insecurities he has about his career and the loneliness as a result of his popularity.
4: "Get Free" by The Vines -
Why on Earth weren't these guys more popular outside of their home country of Australia? You have two minutes of pure adrenaline that doesn't let you stop for a break, it's kind of like having three cups of coffee, it leaves you with this massive buzz and then when it's over, you're like "I don't know what that was, but I want more". It's such a crazy, kind of rambunctiously rowdy romp and I love it.
5: "Elevation" by U2 -
Aside from it being used in the first Tomb Raider film, Elevation never ceases to be one of my favourite U2 songs, the whole song either talks about joy or even lust (I mean, it's kinda obvious when you take into account the line of "like a mole, digging in a hole, going down, excavation"). I love the bridge where it goes slightly quieter and then it punches you back in with these almost flatlining synth stabs.
Thank you so much for sticking around to read this post! I hope that's a good enough look into what I listen to.
Sophie 😁

ariel's look for the heroines runway is a homage to her mother and every other person that provides for their family as cleaning staff and making of the world a better place, her look is a super heroine that cleans the world of lgbtphobia; she would start the runway in the blue look and reveal into the rainbow one
she also reminds people that cleaning staff were the first line of battle during the worst of the pandemic with barely any protection, no vaccines and that it's shameful how were they quickly forgotten once vaccination started
the sticker of the bottle is a parody of a window cleaner brand (instead of cristalsol it's cristariel rec, fitting lol bc her name is also the name of a disney princess detergent brand, the bodysuits she's wearing is a spoof on said brand) and the bottom of the bottle says 'my warrior mother n⁰1 brand, they were apparently given this category a week and a half before they had to leave for filming (concept art and even more rambling under the cut)
she chose the first look in yellow and blue because it's v similar to the uniform of a lot of cleaning staff members, her idea was to make the blue look something that reminded people of cleaning products but also akin to a superhero apprentice uniform
she wanted the superhero to be more on the camp side which is why the bodysuit is literally rainbow, you can see she had her name like the ariel detergent brand printed on the bodysuit, the the back the bodysuit has 'for a world clean of hate' written on the ass and her weapon was the window cleaners that were supposed to go on her legs like the tomb raider thigh harness
