Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! People are moved in many different ways both physically and emotionally but only one piece of hardware holds the title of “People Mover”...It’s called the People Mover. Specifically, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This elevated set of cars takes park goers on a leisurely tour of all of Tomorrowland’s sights and attractions from Mickey’s Star Traders to Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor to the inside of Space Mountain. How the heck does it work? Magnets! Specifically, linear induction motors or a series of electromagnetic pulses that push cars in a manner that is both quiet and smooth. Even if you’re not riding it, you can’t deny that its very presence adds both a sense of kinetic energy and retro - futuristic charm to the tomorrow that never was. It’s quite sad that the Walt Disney World version is the only one that exists since Michael Eisner and the Rocket Rods broke the one in Disneyland but frankly, I’m just glad that this one is still around. If you ever need to take a load off between space rockets, light cycles and everything else the Magic Kingdom has an offer, I guarantee that there’s no option more wonderful. P.S. The newest narration for the TTAPM is done by Mike Brassel who not only pays tribute to extinct attractions and tunes with his spiel but he’s also the one who did the narration for Living With The Land which gives this ride fifty more wonderful points. Hey, I make the rules here.

“And now, Tomorrowland Transit Authority proudly presents Progress City—Walt Disney’s dream for the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Progress City was the inspiration for EPCOT, and many of its forward-thinking ideas have been realized throughout Walt Disney World.”

Fixing the Tomorrowland Problem
the Tomorrowland Problem is an ongoing issue that has plagued Tomorrowlands at Disney properties around the world. Countless times has this issue been addressed and someone has attempted to fix it, but, if Disney wasn’t so afraid, this issue could easily be solved, as they have many sci-fi films under their belt, they have just often times underperformed at the box office.
Films that could be the focus of New Tomorrowland include: The Black Hole, A Wrinkle in Time, Lilo and Stitch, Meet the Robinsons, Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph, Spectrobes, The Rocketeer, Escape to Witch Mountain, or even Tomorrowland, and I believe that by revisiting past concepts especially the Tomorrowland Problem could be solved.
Now, the first step is recognizing the success of Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris. Jules Verne is a great jump-off point to focus on. 20000 Leagues Under the Sea was previously a ride at a couple of Disney properties, but it wasn’t until I believe Tokyo Disney Sea, where rather than employing the use of actual submarine vessels in water, did the issues that plagued the ride see proper resolution through the use of double-paned glass that held water in-between, while the ride itself navigated a dark-ride show building, creating the illusion of being underwater. Journey to the Center of the Earth is also wildly popular in Tokyo Disney Sea, and I think, just as Disney is doing with Lightcycle Power Run, it should replicate this attraction into its other parks. Further inspiration from Disneyland Paris’ From the Earth to the Moon-spired launch cannon atop Space Mountain, while also exploring thematic cues from Verne novels Around the World in 80 Days, The Mysterious Islands, or Island On Top of the World.
Now, many people had issue with Stitch’s Great Escape, but I believe that this issue could be easily avoided, just cut out the low-brow aspects of the ride. Stitch’s escape to Earth is an action-packed adventure and could easily make for a fun roller-coaster or trackless ride experience. However, what I desire is something far more ambitious: a dark ride housing models and animatronics of all 629 experiments. People have always loved Stitch’s cousins, and creating a ride experience jam-packed with every experiment would allow guests to have differing experiences every single ride, trying to spot every experiment they can in the duration of the ride.
In terms of Wreck-It Ralph, I think creating an actual arcade in which you could play the video games from the film would be a great experience. Imagine Sugar Rush, Fix-It Felix Jr, and Hero’s Duty, games you could only play at one of the Disney Parks.
Theming could also be taken a step further with Big Hero 6′s San Fransokyo and its dirigibles, Meet the Robinsons and the futuristic building design. On top of the already existing rides: Space Mountain, Lightcycle Power Run, Astro Orbiter, Tomorrowland Transit Authority: People Mover, Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, etc. I’d bring back The Visionarium (The Timekeeper) from Disneyland Paris and the ORIGINAL Journey into Imagination for properties lacking an Epcot presence.
Additionally, I’d be interested in exploring bringing back Halyx in some form - although a live band experience would be more difficult to bring together again, what if audio animatronic figures performed a pre-recorded set, akin to Sonny Eclipse?
Furthermore, while revisiting old concepts, I considered the prospects of a Sci-Fi Zoo, converting the Autopia to a lunar theming where riders would control Moon Rovers, and even UFO Encounter - in which riders would get a Tower of Terror-esque experience a la alien abduction (tractor beam).
By focusing not on the actuality of tomorrow, Tomorrowland will never become outdated, thereby solving the Tomorrowland Problem.
