Toyota APM 2020/2023. Some of the Accessible People Movers that were originally designed for the (delayed) 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games have been repurposed and transformed into cat buses for the Expo Aichi Memorial Park in the Japanese city of Nagakute. The cat buses have been designed to resemble the cat character from the 1988 Studio Ghibli animated film My Neighbour Tortoro. The APM is fully electric with a range of 100km and a top speed of 20km/h (12 mph). There were around 200 APMs made for the Olympics, it’s unclear how many have been turned into cats

BONUS #WONDERFUL!!!: Speaking of making the rules, this post wouldn’t be complete without me mentioning the number one proponent of bringing back the Disneyland People Mover and one of my favorite Walt Disney Parks related channels, Offhand Disney. His videos generally tow the line between informative, interesting and awkwardly hilarious somehow without being cringy (at least in my opinion). Whether it be his top ten lists, diatribes about Disney History or attempting to gas-light us into thinking Space Mountain doesn’t exist, Dallin never fails to put a smile on my face. As for which video to highlight, it turns out his most recent video is a perfect fit since it’s all about how the concept of “kinetic energy” adds to the immersion of Disney Parks and that includes, wait for it…The People Mover! He even mentions how Living With The Land is the best attraction in this one! Yaaaaay…but seriously, check out his stuff. It’s good stuff.

TRAVEL THERE: TOURIST TIME FOR BILL & JANE Finding the Right Mix Confession, Bill and I are happy when it’s just us two. It’s not that we don’t love our family and friends, nor does it have anything to do with not wanting to spend time with them. We just like to find the right mix of time for us and time with them. Our weekend in Michigan was going to be full to bursting with family time from…

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! People are moved in many different ways both physically and emotionally but only one piece of hardware holds the title of “People Mover”...It’s called the People Mover. Specifically, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This elevated set of cars takes park goers on a leisurely tour of all of Tomorrowland’s sights and attractions from Mickey’s Star Traders to Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor to the inside of Space Mountain. How the heck does it work? Magnets! Specifically, linear induction motors or a series of electromagnetic pulses that push cars in a manner that is both quiet and smooth. Even if you’re not riding it, you can’t deny that its very presence adds both a sense of kinetic energy and retro - futuristic charm to the tomorrow that never was. It’s quite sad that the Walt Disney World version is the only one that exists since Michael Eisner and the Rocket Rods broke the one in Disneyland but frankly, I’m just glad that this one is still around. If you ever need to take a load off between space rockets, light cycles and everything else the Magic Kingdom has an offer, I guarantee that there’s no option more wonderful. P.S. The newest narration for the TTAPM is done by Mike Brassel who not only pays tribute to extinct attractions and tunes with his spiel but he’s also the one who did the narration for Living With The Land which gives this ride fifty more wonderful points. Hey, I make the rules here.
