very battrope at one WIP? 👀👀👀
@pathos-logical also wanted to know about this one! here is another fic i currently have no intent to publish, unless i manage to separate it out into a few different cohesive story-threads, but i keep trying to do that and it just Does Not work as well without all the clashing vibes of storylines i like
in this fic, thus far, damian has gone full murder-child in order to avenge the well-proven death of Nightwing (i still struggle to wrap my head around the "time travelling batman" plotline & fully believe tim got shafted by the batfam in it so i've opted to disregard it entirely for the purposes of this fic. however damian arrived vaguely early in the sequence of batfam canon, and bruce freaked out over the Literal Child Assassin he now had on his hands on top of Everything until dick just like, stealth-kidnapped him off to bludhaven, where he was pretty much living until the whole "disappearance and death" thing went down)
jason is building his crime empire, still unknown to the rest of the family except as an ominously-named minor threat, and has also rescued sasha grimm of the scarred face and sellout father. this is a character in canon that is almost entirely forgotten because the comics dropped her pretty fast (my theory is that DC didn't know what to do with a complex female character who wasn't Pretty. but that's just me) and i care about her. so much. she doesn't even have a canonical last name i made up "grimm" due to the etymology & vibes of it. she is however canonically jason's sidekick who goes by "Scarlet" and sees the red hood as family (because he rescued her when batman & robin promised to do so, and left her behind; because he rescued her when she had a horrific mask glued to her face and enough trauma to kill her own father, and didn't care if she was a monster, because she was also a kid. god i just care so much about sasha)
meanwhile tim is spiralling bc batman is once again self-destructing over a dead child, & this time tim isn't enough to fix it, so he's directed all his focus to solving the mystery of dick's death because maybe that'll help something, somehow. unfortunately he gets in over his head with one of black mask's henchman. fortunately, a begrudgingly moral crime lord is also staking out black mask at the time. robin is summarily kidnapped by the red hood, much to everyone's dismay, including jason's.
over in the increasingly dysfunctional manor, cass is near-constantly accompanied by steph & helena kyle - who was never given up for adoption in a misogynistic storyline that relied on catwoman becoming too much of a woman to be a good criminal when she had a kid. adoption is an extremely valid and loving choice for a birth parent to make but the rationale for these writers to make catwoman choose it was literally "unlike bruce wayne, who has a literal parade's worth of kids in his basement, catwoman can't juggle being a parent & having a (night) job without letting her Emotions and Womanly Irrationality get in the way of good crime work" so. helena kyle sticks around in my canon. daughter of batman & heir to the Cat, u guys, this character is SO underplayed
and duke - duke is just chillin in gotham, livin his life, for the time being. for the time being. the joker's about to break out of arkham again, though, and - well. let's just say i've opted to fix the meter of a certain chilling rhyme...
#now whisper not a word of them / or talon take your head#yknow. yknow the one#also - and this is segueing into the wip that's just a list of why i love the canonical talon characters#but like. like.#jonas no-last-name lost his family to the spanish flu; he loved animals more than anything and worked as a ''lion tamer'' before the court#he carves a feather into his flesh for every person he kills & this is apparently proof that he's Mentally Unstable#the boy whose mother killed every one of his beloved chickens in the heat of her fever before she died too#the boy who is a killer with blood on his hands not of his own will - just like his mother - just like her but he cannot die like her#cannot even trust himself to remember#benjamin orchard was turned into a talon by his own father as punishment for running away#he tried to join haly's circus to escape and if that's not tragic irony what is?#calvin rose was literally locked in a dog crate by his dad for 3 days at the age of 8. broke himself out & ran#became an escape artist in the damned circus. the only half-talon who successfully got out of the labyrinth#got recaptured & on his first mission rescued both of his targets (a mother & child) and fled#the only female talon on record is mary turner who grew up with scars from a bomb attack in wwii that left her sans tongue#she's also the only one (besides calvin) who gets a ''redemption'' arc. saves batgirl & catwoman & ends up joining the birds of prey squad#codenamed ''Strix''#even some of the sketchier ones - Uriah Boone the eldest Talon is an eldritch creacher from pre-industrial gotham#just kinda lurking in the tunnels#the only ones i don't love are henry ballard felix harmon & of course old billy cobb#but like. justice for the talons that are always treated like monsters batman can just kill & not care. these are people#and they're part of the people i mean when i say gotham saves itself#anyway. thank u for this ask 💜💚💜💚 i Love batman infodumping hhhh#batman#batfam#linden writes#ask linden

Oh my god, I thought about this at school, okok so can I request a fanfic about Ajax having a crush on the reader (She/her if u can!) and his little snakes constantly trying to be affectionate with her and sneaking outside his little hat to try and touch you???? Thank you!
Tumblr media
— ☆ THE SNAKES !
ajax petropolus x fem!reader
Tumblr media
synopsis; Gorgons are usually told to keep their distance from the rest of the outcasts but Ajax and his snakes are a little too fond of you. notes; THIS WAS SOO FUN TO WRITE AND THE CONCEPT WAS CUTE TOO OMG taglist; lmk if u wanna be on it !!
Tumblr media
The first time you encountered Ajax's snakes acting oddly around you was when the both of you were studying for your upcoming exam. When this happened, neither of you were aware of each other's feelings towards one another and didn't think too much of it:
Usually, Nevermore's library is rather quiet with no signs of life but not today. Today, the library had been filled with dozens of students trying to cram the entire biology syllabus in less than an hour.
Exam season was upon the students of Nevermore and they were all rest-less, including you and Ajax.
You both were near the end of the library, sitting across from one another as you both were helping each other revise for your upcoming exam. Yet, none of you could get anything done since there were far too many distractions for the both of you.
'Right so, what are the adaptations of a Dionaea muscipula plant?' you asked Ajax looking up from your deck of flashcards that were strewn all over your textbook.
Ajax remained quiet as he tried to think of his answer to your question while you began to scan your textbook again, re-reading all the material in it.
After a while, you turned to Ajax, again, wanting to ask him the question again but were immediately stopped by Ajax, who cursed and shouted: 'Y/N, close your eyes!'
You quickly shut your eyes tight and for good measure, covered them both with your hands. You really didn't want to turn into stone merely hours before your final exam.
Once the gorgon informed you that it was safe to open to your eyes, you slowly obliged. You saw that he looked rather embarrassed as he had his face covered with both of his hands. 'Sorry. I'm really sorry about that, I don't know what's happening to my snakes right now. Usually, they behave quite well,' he apologised.
You shook your head and reassured him that it wasn't his fault that his snakes attempted to stone you. You didn't think too much of this interaction but little did you know that the reason for this was due to the gorgon's major crush on you.
The second time Ajax's snakes attempted to touch you was during Outreach Day at Uriah's Heep. You both had gotten that shop for volunteering and you were very glad to have been there with a friend:
Outreach Day was probably one of your least favourite days of the school year. Yes, you were going out to Jericho and finally having a change of scenery but the entire concept of volunteering was tedious to you — why were you working at a place when you weren't going to be paid?
However, it wasn't all doom and gloom since your best friend Ajax was volunteering there too!
Most of your time spent at that creepy shack involved you both just quizzically staring at the rows of shelves that were filled with the ( nicely dressed ) roadkill or with cleaning out all the dusty old shelves.
Every now and then, you both would crack jokes but would get immediately shushed by the only clerk present in the store.
While you cleaned out a shelf that was right at the back of the store, you were interrupted Ajax standing a little too close to you as he watched you clean out the shelf.
‘Want some help here? I’m done with my side so—‘ Ajax stopped talking when he noticed that a few of snakes were roaming near your small figure.
All your movements stopped when you felt the weird feeling of scales on your head and neck. Your breath hitched. You were unsure of how to proceed; any wrong movement and you’d be a stone.
‘Ajax?’ You called out. 'Yeah? Sorry, give me a minute...' he said as he began to shove the snakes back into his beanie.
The rest of your day spent with him involved you countlessly reassuring him that the snakes were no big deal while he apologised to you endlessly.
Ajax was terrified of the idea of his snakes ever turning you to stone.
The third ( and last ) time his snakes escaped his beanie to affectionately touch you was during the Rave'N - it was a night you both won't ever forget:
The Rave'N was a rather lively and remarkable evening. It started out rather wonderful as well.
Ajax had come to pick you up at your dorm at around 7. He was already dressed in a white suit - he even had a beanie to match. You'd be lying if you said he didn't look attractive.
The entirety of your evening was spent with the both of you dancing to all the songs, drinking and eating.
As it started to near midnight, the songs started to get slower - perfect for ballroom dancing.
Even though your legs were sore and you felt like you could hardly stand but when Ajax asked you to dance with him one last time, how could you say no?
You both spent the last hours of the night in each other's arms. The entire world around you both was a blur and the only thing you could focus on was Ajax's arms around your body.
When the night ended and everyone was leaving; there were barely any people present except for a few other students and you both.
Ajax and you sat at one of the round tables, doing absolutely nothing - just sitting with one another, enjoying each other's company. It was a comfortable silence, to say the least.
The raspy yet comforting voice of Ajax calling out your name, snapped you out of your thoughts as you turned all your attention to him. You hummed in response, urging him to speak - you were too tired to say a single word.
'I...' he began, 'I had a great time here, with you.' You smiled upon hearing his words, 'me too.'
You both sat in silence again until Ajax began another conversation: 'hey, listen... I don't know how to properly say this but...' he trailed off, it was as if he was trying to form the right words in his mind. 'I really like you - I like you a lot, in fact,' he bluntly said.
Your eyes widened in shock; you couldn't believe your ears - your best friend and crush, Ajax had confessed to you. It was too surreal.
You were unaware of how to properly tell him that you harbored feelings for him as well. So, on impulse, you crashed your lips onto his.
Ajax was taken a back by your action but he kissed you back nonetheless. He'd been wanting to do that for so long.
His hands cupped one of your cheeks while the other travelled down to your waist whereas both of your arms were wrapped around his neck.
Unfortunately, you both pulled apart once Ajax realised that his snakes had escaped, again. He frantically apologised to you on behalf of his snakes while you chuckled.
Atleast now the snakes would attempt to escape a little less.

Fearless
New story that I had in my WIPS lets see if theres any interest lol.
Tumblr media
The water from the chasm was pouring down into the abyss below, sprinkles of the coolness hitting your face as you waited. Below people were starting to stir, leaving their rooms to find their way to the small shops or cafeteria. From your spot high on the wall they looked like ants, of course you weren't supposed to be up here..
Max would scalp you if he saw you. It was a tricky climb to this little alcove, the wall was wet from the waterfall next to it. Small little holes for your hands and feet, people such as Eric never would be able to make it. Even if he could he was too scared to try. That's why it was your favorite place in all of Dauntless.
"You better get down, Girl.. You gotta get to the train." A voice called from the ledge below, when you looked down you saw the person who was like a mother too you. Her hair slicked back, tattoos on display with a soft smile on her sharp face.
Tori.
She was and is the only person who ever looked out for you. Told you that you were strong, strong enough to face the trails as an initiate. Strong enough to get your first tattoo, strong enough when you got your ears pierced. Strong enough when Max ranked you in third when you should've been in second.
She was there the day you almost died at the hands of your 'friends'. There every day of your recovery. And there even now that you were one of the strongest, still in your corner even if you didn't need her.
Little did she know you would always need her.
Slipping down the wall, you could almost hear her eyes roll as you let go off the wall. The seconds of free fall giving you the little boost you need to make it through the day. When your booted feet meet the narrow walkway that has no rails, you turn to look at your mother figure. Confirming the eye roll you figured would be happening.
Smiling widely at her as she loops her arm through yours, pulling you down the walkway. You could tell she had something to say, she always said that you were one of the few people who could read her like a book. You also knew if she was waiting then it was important and needed to be private.
That proved to be true as she pulled you into the tattoo parlor, back into her room closing and locking the door before leaning against it. You stood hands folded together in front of her, waiting for whatever it was she was going to tell you. When she opened her eyes, your heart dropped, the line of tears waiting there was something you hadn't seen in two years.
Since the day after she administered your test.. Since the day she watched you roll off the net after jumping. You stepped closer to her, using your hands to rub her arms slowly as she took a few deep breaths. "Theres another of you.. Shes almost as.... strong.. as you.."
You felt all the muscles in your body freeze, you knew what she meant by 'strong'.
Divergent.
Before you could start asking questions the speakers turned on and announced that the trains into the city would be leaving soon. Both of your heads turned back to each other, her hands grabbing you as you had her. "I told her to stay with the Stiffs.. But I have a feeling shes too much like someone else I know."  She had a soft smile on her face as her hands moved to your face, cupping both of your cheeks.
"If she chooses Dauntless.. You have to protect her as I have you.. As we both have Uriah.. Promise me Y/n." Tori begged, you knew there was no way you could say no. Even though you wanted too. Protecting one Divergent along with yourself was going to be enough work, now there was someone almost as fucked up as you? And shes a stiff??
You let out the breath you didn't realize you were holding as she leaned your forehead against her own. The buzzer went off again, you knew you were going to be questioned for being late. So you pulled away opening the door as Tori moved, pausing only to turn back and look at her. She had risked so much for you, how could you tell her no?
"Ill do what I can. But I wont risk myself or Uriah for someone, Zeke is one of my best friends. Riah is like a little brother too me, but I will do what I can. I promise Mom."
~~
The entire train ride your stomach was in knots, bile heavy in your chest. Not only from not eating breakfast but from nerves. You watch Uriah talk and goof off with the other 16 year olds. You knew this was a big day for all of them, some would be coming home with you and some you would never speak too again. You couldn't help but wonder who would be going where, you remembered you own Choosing Ceremony.
The day that you left Amity behind.
Really nobody was surprised, you had never fit in there. Members of Amity are dedicated to peacefulness, kindness, forgiveness, trust, self-sufficiency, and neutrality. They are slow to anger and yet quick to forgive. None of which you are. You still held grudges from when you were five and your use to be brother ate the last pumpkin cake.
No.. Amity was not where you belonged. While you did miss the rolling fields, and the openness of having the outdoors right there. You were constantly in trouble, always being chastised and then forgiven for everything.
"Do not run through Y/n, we are all trying to meditate."
" Do not you think it would be kinder to offer the last one to someone older, maybe even younger? Be kinder Y/n."
"Dont worry young one, I forgive you for your stubbornness."
It was exhausting being there, the peacefulness and trust was all you missed. You were self-sufficient enough, part of being in Dauntless was being able to carry out orders without needing supervision. But you are quick to anger, slow to forgive and definitely biased.
The kids started yelping as the city came into view, most readying themselves to jump. It was then you noticed the two standing near the back. They looked around at there friends, the girl whos name you couldn't remember caught your eye. Her face paling before you sent her a small smile, making your way over to her.
Your voice was low, so low only she could hear you as you stood behind her. "Make the choice thats right for you. This is forever, dont think about anyone else. Just yourself. It'll be ok, I promise."
You could read the surprise on her face as you pushed her towards the door, where everyone was already jumping. A quick somersault was all you registered as you stood walking with the group towards the building. Your eyes scan the crowd like you would be able to spot the girl Tori told you about.
The Stiffs would already be in the building, walking up the stairs like the selfless people they are. 'Fuck that' You thought as you and Zeke broke from the group towards the front doors. The two of you were stationed outside, to make sure everything ran smoothly. That no one would come in and interrupt the ceremony once it started. You wanted to watch now that you knew what was happening, but it was too late.
Plus who better to work with than your best friend? The hours this would take would go by quickly by his side. The only person you would trade him for was Four, and really he wouldn't be good conversation here. You knew his father was in there, that would mean he would shut down and be rude.
He would be short and disgruntle. Which is why the last two times this had happened he stayed behind, ready to watch the first jump.
Inside you could hear them starting, "Decades ago our ancestors realized that it is not political ideology, religious belief, race, or nationalism that is to blame for a warring world. Rather, they determined that it was the fault of human personality—of humankind's inclination toward evil, in whatever form that is. They divided into factions that sought to eradicate those qualities they believed responsible for the world's disarray." Marcus started.
Your eyes rolled as you held your gun tightly, you had only heard this speech three times but it wore on your nerves. Before you could even think about how disrespectful it might be you started mocking him.
"ThOsE wHo BlAmEd AgGrEsSiOn FoRmEd AmItY."
Zeke followed directly after you, proving yet again why he was your best friend. "ThOsE wHo BlAmEd IgNoRaNcE bEcAmE tHe ErUdItE."
You both shook your head and chuckled, "Seriously, he needs to revamp his speech. Its getting old, like they dont learn about all that in school no matter the faction." Shifting from foot too foot you could feel yourself getting restless. You were good at following orders, but today something just felt off.
Zeke noticed almost immediately, you were antys. Moving around constantly, fingers tapping on the butt of your gun. Your face flush and slightly red like you were sweating. "Are you good? Because you look like your going to pass out." He said in a concerned tone, there was no judgement there like there would be with some others.
You cracked your neck, willing yourself to calm the hell down. Planting your feet and finding your stance you nodded once. "Yeah I didn't sleep well last night" ..Not a lie.. "I always get worried that I'll see my brother here and he will give me that judgy Erudite stare.. " Again not a lie.. Ok not a complete lie.
You really didn't care about any of Amity's opinions of you. The people whose feelings you cared about you could count on one hand. But for some reason the stare that your brother always gave you, even before you turned 16, always made your stomach turn. Like he knew something you didn't. Like he was disgusted by you.
Zeke shook his head "I know that's not the reason, but Ill let it go. Just know I'm always here if you need to talk."  Silence fell between you two, you couldn't thank him for not pushing because that would confirm his doubts. After what felt like days the doors open and the few leaders are followed out by those who have chosen the fearless life you have.
Your eyes stay straight ahead as they all file pass you, walking behind the group where Zeke is in the middle. It isn't hard to pick out the Stiff, taking small but quick steps trying to keep up the kids who are whooping and smiling. Its always easy to pick out the transfers, of course the plain grey dress thing shes wearing helps.
Your feet move closer to her without you telling them too. Your lungs are pulling in air to speak even though your brain is telling you too shut up.. You made a promise, one that you unwilling would keep.
"Dont look at me.. Keep your eyes forward and your mouth closed. Just listen."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The blond girl next to you jumped as you spoke, clearly caught off guard. Either by you speaking to her in general or the tone that was clear even in whispers. Your grip on your weapon tightened as you tried to find the will to be reassuring like Tori was.
"Follow what the Dauntless born do. Don't hesitate when jumping on the train or you'll die." Great job y/n.. That was reassuring.."When we get to headquarters, when they ask for jumpers.. volunteer before the others. Dont ask questions, dont look for help.. Just do as I say and it will be fine.."
You didn't even look at her or give her the chance to respond before you started running. Didn't look back to see if she was running, or if she was falling behind. In no way would you allow it too look like you were helping her, because in the long run that would only make it worse. For both of you.
"What the hell is going on?" A transfer boy yells as people start passing him. You shake your head and wonder if these kids even know who they are joining. Had they ever watched the Dauntless? Did they know anything besides that the motto said?
We believe in freedom from fear, in ordinary acts of bravery, in defending those who cannot defend themselves.
Did they think that being part of this group came easily? That they would just walk into headquarters and be handed a gun and a job? Zeke was next to you jogging as the train horn sounded behind you. Jumping on and off things was one of his favorite things too do, anyone could see it in the way his face lite up.
"Oh no," mumbles the Erudite boy. "Are we supposed to hop on that thing?"
You hear the Stiff mumble "yes" and feel the tiniest bit better. Maybe she wouldn't be so bad, maybe she knew a little about what was about to happen. But it didn't mean she was prepared for the amount of lying that she was going to have to do. Dauntless begin to pile in, group by group, until only the new initiates are left. The Dauntless-born initiates are used to doing this by now, so in a second it's just faction transfers left.
You watch as they all start to panic, running next to the car you're in. You placed yourself in the last one, where all the others were in the first two. You watched them make it in one by one, the Stiff almost falling off. Had it not been from the girl from Candor she wouldn't have made it. You all watch A short Erudite boy with red hair pumps his arms as he tries to catch up to the train. An Erudite girl by the door reaches out to grab the boy's hand, straining, but he is too far behind. He falls to his knees next to the tracks as we sail away, and puts his head in his hands.
You should feel bad. Hes just failed the first test, hes now factionless. Less than thirty minutes after making his choice he has failed. But you know deep down its for the best, this is the easy part. If he couldn't make it onto the train what you and Four have planned for training would've killed him.
You listen to the Cador girl and the Abnegation girl talk, watch as she sits down and then instructs the other girl too. It is that moment you see her divergence. A true Dauntless would stay standing, be unafraid of the wind. Would find a way to show courage in the face of the speeding train and whipping wind.
This is going to be so much harder than you think, so much worse than you had planned. Thankfully Uriah was only a little divergent. His would be easy to hide, this girl.. Beatrice.. She would cause problems, problems you had already promised to try and solve.
 "I guess we are going to Dauntless headquarters," She says after the other girl Christina speaks, "but I don't know where that is."
"Does anyone?" Christina shakes her head, grinning. "It's like they just popped out of a hole in the ground or something." You chuckle and cross your arms, pulling their attention towards you but you just keep looking out the train doors. If only they knew, you kinda do pop out of holes.
Then the wind rushes through the car, and the other faction transfers, hit with bursts of air, falling on top of one another. You pinch the bridge of your nose, sighing through it. "Pathetic" You say loud enough for them all to hear, Christina scoffs along with the tall boy from Candor. The rest smartly stay quiet, Beatrice's eyes falling on you silently.
"Arent you supposed to be like.. guiding us or something?" He says from his place on the floor, it's your turn to scoff. Turning back to the door grabbing the railing and leaning out, you hear the transfers gasp assuming you're going to fall. Like you haven't done this a million times, none of them know if you're a transfer or not. Younger kids don't go to the ceremony, they would have no idea if you were Dauntless born or not.
In the cars ahead you could see those your age looking back at you.  Zeke, Eric and Shauna all smiling knowing what was coming next. The roof came into view as you all pulled back into the cars, you could hear the Dauntless born whooping again. Turning back to the transfers you smiled, before locking eyes with Beatrice. They were all standing now, frantically talking amongst themselves about jumping.
"Good luck" was all you said before running and throwing yourself from the train.
Black Light
Wednesday x Parasite!Reader
Part One | Part Two |
"What'd you get?"
"Pilgrim World! Bet! You?"
"Weathervane! Free coffee all day, yo!"
You flick open your envelope to see where you were going to be for the 'honored' Outreach Day. It seems like most people were getting placed into Pilgrim World. Aaaaand you were also one of them. A heavy sigh escapes as you shove the paper into your pocket.
Normies would avoid you out of fear because of your outcast status. Outcasts avoid you out of fear of your known powers. Even then, outside of your chosen few, you didn't bother putting yourself out there. Outreach Day was a farce in your opinion and it masks underlying issues. But, whatever helps morale, you guess.
Feeling a presence, you turn to see both Enid and Wednesday appear by your side. Though the wolf flinches slightly at your attention, she gives you a smile.
"What'd you get, Y/N?" She asks. You could tell her enthusiasm masking her fear of you, but it felt nice to know she was trying.
"Pilgrim World. How 'bout you two?"
"Samesies," Enid replies almost immediately. "I have natural people skills and a love of performing, so it's kind of the obvi choice." You just nod. She was definitely the complete opposite of you. You turn to Wednesday next, awaiting her answer.
"Uriah's Heap, whatever that is."
"Ew. It's a weird, creepy antique store." When Enid feels both yours and Wednesday's eyes boring into her, she backtracks slightly.
"You'll love it though." You just roll your eyes in reply.
"I'd rather be at Uriah's than at Pilgrim World. Less people to stare at me."
"Maybe you'll get better with your social skills." Enid quips, only to squeak and stride away due to your glare.
"She's lucky she's cute..." You grumble. Wednesday raises an eyebrow at the statement.
"Didn't expect loud blondes to be your type, Y/N." You snort in response.
"Hardly but I'm not blind. People like her and Bianca are conventionally attractive," you start. "Just not my type. Not like I'm swimming in options. Not many want a monster as a partner."
A soft scoff sounds from Wednesday. "Not many have any semblance of taste."
You don't get a chance to ruminate on the words as Weems makes her appearance then, her attention on the small goth.
"Wednesday. Don't worry about your cello. I'll have it brought to the town square this afternoon."
The girl eyes the tall woman with suspicion. "My cello?"
The principal explains that she volunteered Wednesday to join the Jericho High marching band after she heard the goth play the other night. As she walks away with a near smug look on her face, Wednesday turns to you.
"Promise you'll hang me as a witch afterwards," she deadpans.
"Good thing I perfected my noose technique."
Wednesday couldn't help but smirk.
-----+++++-----
You're lingering behind the group of outcasts making their way to Pilgrim World. You weren't looking forward to being in those stupid costumes and having to deal with the myriad of tourists flooding the park. The gaggle of students partaking in the photo areas were already grating on your nerves and you're sure that being crushed like Giles Corey would be more pleasant than this torture.
"Why anyone would come here is a mystery..." You mutter. A sudden voice from your side surprises you.
"Pretty sure it's only for the fudge."
Wednesday's appearance confuses you. A few stunned blinks pulls you from the surprise, but only just.
"What are you doing here?"
"Switched with Enid so I could find out more about this Joseph Crackstone. He seems to be a clue into my investigations." A groan from your throat makes the girl furrow her brows.
"Why Enid though?" You whine pathetically. "I would've switched in a heartbeat to be free of all of this." You point to the raving pilgrim talking about witch trials as if to prove your point. Wednesday only shakes her head.
"The thought did cross my mind, but I figure you'll be more useful to me here," she states. "Whether I'd like to admit it or not."
You let out a resigned sigh while inwardly preeninh at the compliment. "At least I won't suffer alone..."
-----+++++-----
Being on the PW Outreach team was made more tolerable with the fact that Wednesday had done things to undermine the weird theme park. Being near the girl made you want to kill less. That's why you now found yourself outside of the closed meeting house alongside her and Eugene, having rescued him from a few normie bullies.
"And what are we looking to find here, Wednesday?" you ask while keeping an eye out. You were no stranger to sneaking around. The goth just rolled her eyes in reply.
"There has to be a clue about who Crackstone is here. I'll find it and be ever closer to finding out why he and I are entwined." She then turns to you with a sharp look. "Come now. We haven't all day. Locks don't pick themselves."
The things you do for this girl. With a exasperated huff, you step towards the meeting house door and place your hand by the lock. A few tendrils pop from your arm and make their way into the opening. After a few seconds, you all hear a soft click and the door opens.
"You'd think they'd install a better lock at least." You flex your fingers as if you had shoved them in the keyhole. "What would you have used if I wasn't here?"
"Eugene's retainer."
Both you and Eugene just stare at Wednesday in disbelief. There's a moment before she shoves you aside and steps into the building.
"Keep watch. If that Mistress Arlene shows her face, deny everything."
"I'm not good at lying..." mutters Eugene. You just pat him on the shoulder.
"Just let me do the talking."
Talking didn't help as the woman bulldozed her way through a moment later, dragging both you and Eugene by the ears as she confronts Wednesday. It was obvious that the woman had dealt with hooligans before, whether during this job or her previous one. At the very least, you learned some things about this place. Mainly that it was fake and the original meeting house was elsewhere. That and the book Wednesday was looking for had gone missing. At least now her investigation would take place away from this place. But that's for another time. You had to deal with fudge churning duties now.
Joy.
-----+++++-----
As soon as you could, you ripped the damned frock uniform off your body and donned your school uniform and hoodie. The sheer relief to have your normal clothing on almost made you sag into the nearest chair. You had used your powers to churn as much fudge as you were assigned and took the first moment to make your exit. You didn't know where Wednesday was, but you definitely need coffee. Pulling your hood up, you make your way to the Weathervane.
Whether it was coincidence or fate, you find Wednesday at the coffee shop, speaking to Xavier.
"I thought you were suppose to be at Pilgrim World?" he asks.
"I deserted it while my sanity was still intact."
"Leaving me to churn all that fudge on my own, mind you." you said, making your presence known. Wednesday just turns to you and shrugs.
"You had Eugene to assist."
"And you think he was any actual help?"
The two of you stare at each other, both with an eyebrow raised. A silent debate happening between you two until Xavier interrupts.
"Uh, you two want coffee? It's one of the many perks of this wonderful assignment..."
"I'm actually here for Tyler."
Both you and Xavier slump at the mention of the boy awkwardly standing away from you three, watching yet not wanting to intrude.
"I told you he was bad news," the psychic retorts. You couldn't help but agree, though for you it was more of a gut feeling than anything.
"Who I speak to is my business."
Wednesday's words had a tone of finality in it causing Xavier to just let out a sigh and ring the bell that was next to him. Tyler meanders up cautiously.
"You rang?"
With that, you check out of the conversation. Finding a seat nearby, you wait for any indication that Wednesday was leaving. Snippets of voices registered in your brain, but none was important enough for you to really react to. At least not until Tyler attempts to offer his help.
"Look, the ruins are kind of tricky to find," he starts. "I could take you this afternoon. My shift ends at 2:00."
Before you could even pipe up and offer a retort, Wednesday beats you to it.
"Principal Weems would hang, draw and quarter me if I miss the big statue dedication." You could see the girl grimace at the thought of the event. "And as enticing as it sounds, I'd prefer to keep a low profile."
"For now..." you murmur, only to have the goth backhand you in retaliation.
"If you're going to pester me you better make yourself useful. Come."
Wednesday immediately stands and exits the café. You could only glance at the two boys before scurrying after her.
-----+++++-----
When you followed Wednesday to the meeting house ruins, you weren't expecting to sit in the rain, waiting for the girl to wake up. You and Thing were impatiently waiting for her to wake up after she keeled over after attempting to leave. You had an umbrella made to keep all of you dry.
"If she doesn't wake up soon, I'm just gonna carry her back to campus."
Thing taps in response.
"I carried her to this spot. It shouldn't be any different."
More taps.
"Yeah, yeah, I know this is the general vicinity but we've been here for like half an hour."
As soon as the word leaves your mouth, Wednesday shoots up with a gasp.
"Thing! Y/N! I saw her! The girl from my vision." She leans into your arms, woozy from sitting up too quickly, but her eyes are still focused. "Her name is Goody Addams and I believe she's my ancestor from 400 years ago."
-----+++++-----
It was really hard not to hate Wednesday's potential suitors. The normie was trying too hard and Xavier was too condescending. How he didn't believe two personal accounts was absurd. Even more absurd than the statue unveiling event you were stuck in right now.
At least you know it was going to get lit. Literally.
You wait through speeches, eyes almost glazed over from utter boredom. The sudden swell of music jerks you into attention and your eyes immediately find Wednesday. With the barest of nods, you get your cue.
Tendrils emerge from your body and creep through the bleachers. Within its grasp, a small fuse makes its way towards the fountain. Hidden away from the view of the spectators, gas-soaked fabric hanging from a pool of gasoline in the fountain stuck out. You attach the fuse and pull back your tendrils. Once you pull away, you hear the strike of a match and a faint sizzle hidden by the band.
Oh this is going to be good.
Your eyes meet Wednesday's as Crackstone's statue bursts into flames and chaos erupts around you. The cellist changes the tune she was playing, allowing the music to reflect the terror around her. Your wide grin almost makes her smile wider.
Outreach day
Pairing: Xavier X Reader
Warnings: SUPER LONG (sorry), British references (specifically England), Tyler Galpin hate projection
A/N: this took over a month omd, also I don't like Tyler can you tell??
Outreach day. Two simple words which struck fear into the hearts of all the townspeople in Jericho. Every outcast knew this much, the whole day was a pointless publicity stunt, detested by all involved. But as long as it meant the town was considered 'welcoming and inclusive' to fellow normies, and the students of the school were supposed seen as 'friendly and well-rounded', the ridiculous mandatory 'volunteer' work continued.
Not a single Nevermore pupil enjoyed the day - spending hours being singled out and targeted, gossiped about and facing constant glares from the oh-so-accepting normies was in no way a cheerful experience. Your feet were lead as you collected the dreaded envelope; the contents of which dictated the placement you were forced into for the morning. Whilst a very small handful of your classmates appeared pleasantly surprised by their assignments, disgust was etched onto the faces of most of those around you.
Despite your entirely uninterested outward appearance, a spark of curiosity began to form. You carefully peeled open the chiffon coloured envelope, revealing a slip of card.
Written in bold, deep black lettering:
Y/N L/N
Uriah's Heap
Ultimately, that wasn't the worst option available. You would be essentially isolated, substantially less exposed to pure, unfiltered hatred from the entire population of Jericho. Relief washed over you, freed from the anxieties of potential work at pilgrim world. However, the consolation was short lived.
"Hey, Y/N!" Came the voice of Ajax from behind you.
"Hi, Ajax. What did you get?" You greeted the gorgon. The two of you were reasonably close friends, sharing several lessons and frequently meeting outside of school.
"Erm, Y/N? Would you maybe be willing to trade with me?" He queried, sidestepping your question. "I saw you got Uriah's Heap. And, well Enid's working there today so I thought-"
"You haven't got pilgrim world, have you?" You groaned, already preparing yourself to decline your friends offer.
"No! No I don't." He answered you, far too quickly. "I got the Weathervane." The last three syllables were barely audible.
"The Weathervane? Really? I don't even like coffee. Do you think I'm dense, Jax? I am not spending the day with the Sheriff's son." You scoffed, scrunching your nose in distaste and already briskly walking towards the shuttle set to take all Nevermore students into Jericho.
"No, Y/N wait! Please I will do anything!" You were quick, but so was Ajax. Before you knew it, he was sat on the seat beside you, whining incessantly in your ear.
"Fine!" You grumbled, barely a minute into the journey, already bored to death of being nagged.
"Because I would- wait really?!"
"Yes, whatever. Just shut up, would you?" You playfully elbowed him in the ribs.
If Ajax thought that you hadn't noticed the thumbs up he flashed to someone behind you, he was entirely wrong. He was not subtle, at all. You shook your head, a small smile taking place on your lips. But before you had a chance to wonder what that was about, the shuttle began to speed up, reaching the road leading in to town. The rest of the trip consisted of bantering with your friend, and soon enough you had reached your dreaded destination.
Your smile completely vanished when you remembered what you had gotten yourself into. Predictably, Ajax was nowhere to be seen the minute you exited the shuttle. You rolled your eyes, silently cursing both yourself and the gorgon. If only you had more patience.
You shamelessly stretched out the walk to your unfortunate placement as much as possible, taking the longest route you could. Yet despite your best attempts, you still managed to get to your destination on time. Early, even.
Being the sensible person you were, you promptly spun around and began walking in the opposite direction, delaying your inevitable fate further. Of course, you would have to make your way into the Weathervane eventually; a Nevermore uniform stuck out like a sore thumb against the sea of normies. Constantly checking over your shoulder for any sign of Weems (or any other teacher ready to pounce on an out-of-line student), you turned a corner. This allowed you to make your way down the empty back street, void of any staring eyes. But the solitude was short lived.
Not too far into the distance stood a brick wall, sloppily coated in patchy white paint. However, your attention was immediately drawn to the extremely tall figure wearing the tell-tale blue and black stripes of Nevermore. You faintly recognised him as Xavier Thorpe, the school's resident 'tortured artist'. A pang of sympathy struck you as you recalled the reason behind the solemn way he stared at the whitewashed bricks.
"I'm sorry about your painting." Xavier immediately whipped around to face you at the faint sound of your hushed voice. He blinked at you, as you began to silently curse yourself for the second time that day. The destroyed mural was bound to be a touchy subject.
"It's fine - there's nothing I can do about it now." He responded after a prolonged moment.
The silence was drawn out and awkward, yet something about Xavier seemed strangely familiar and comfortable, despite you barely knowing him. "You're a really good artist, are they going to let you do another one?"
The look on his face was enough to immediately realise you said the wrong thing. "I'm sorry-" you began, however he cut you off.
"You don't need to apologise. They don't care remotely enough for that, and I wouldn't want to anyway."
"You'd be wasted on this shitty town." This response drew a quiet snicker from him, making you smile in turn.
"Thanks." He smiled back before quickly breaking eye contact and looking down, the corners of his mouth still lifted in a pretty smirk. The sight of which was enough to direct your own gaze to the floor.
..What?
The pretentious sound of heels clacking against concrete infiltrated your momentary confusion. You and Xavier both turned around, movements synchronized. At that moment, you were greeted with a sarcastic smirk from Weems as she stared down (more so at you), hands on her hips. Offering Xavier a mischievous grin, you braced yourself for the scolding that would surely follow.
"I believe the two of you are supposed to be at your assignments right now." She spoke rather elegantly, her posture suggested a source of authority, despite the fact she clearly lacked it, with two students set to arrive late to their placement. "I'm willing to turn a blind eye to this exchange, given the circumstance," A pointed look was directed at the mess of Xavier's mural, "but you are aware that one of the conditions of outreach day is to not make any waves. At all. Now, make your way to your placements, as my kindness will only extend so far." Her tone was clear, and out of respect you decided to surrender; she was a decent headteacher, all things considered.
Quickly glancing to your left, it was clear that Xavier was substantially less willing. You gave him a small nudge with your elbow as Weems turned and began briskly walking ahead - presumably to the Weathervane to make sure you arrived. He glanced at you, before once again looking away, an obvious scowl present on his face, not attempting to mask it in the slightest. A frown pushed its way onto your brow, concern beginning to grow.
"Wouldn't you have thought she would offer us an escort?" You joked dryly, to which he responded with a small huff and a nod. "Are you okay?" The worry festering within you began to grow at his dismissive response.
"Uh, yeah. I'm fine."
Biting back the urge to respond with a snarky comment about him not looking fine, you continued walking, realising you had no idea where Xavier's assignment was located.
Or more importantly, when he would leave.
You felt a dinky yet significant attachment towards the artist, despite never really speaking with him before now. Of course you knew of him, though you didn't really know him personally. And for some reason, you decided that should change; you wanted to spend time together, begin a friendship, maybe even more-
"I just realised." You spoke very slightly too loudly, surprising yourself, but dispersing your rampaging thoughts. Most likely at the unexpected twinge of high volume, Xavier tilted his head toward you, finally making eye contact. His chartreuse irises were flecked with hazel around the pupils, an overwhelming sea of glorious gemstone green you could certainly drown in. Barely noticeably, you shook your head to once again clear the miniscule details that sprung into much more, your mind swarming with thoughts like a hive of restless bees.
"You never told me where you're outreaching." You continued, as though you hadn't just been lost in Xavier's eyes barely a second ago.
He scoffed in response, rolling his eyes. "I got the Weathervane. So now I get to watch that normie idiot ride his own dick all day acting all innocent."
You shouldn't have been happy. You really shouldn't have. And you weren't. No, you weren't happy - instead you were ecstatic, thrilled, overjoyed, delighted. Your joy was kept in check, however, when remembering that this was probably the worst assignment Xavier could have gotten. Truthfully, you had no idea the extent of which Tyler's ambush had reached last year, but you were well aware of the state of Xavier when he returned that day. Bruised, battered and bloodied, and the thought of his suffering made your heart break.
"Do you want to know something?" Your voice wavered, and you hoped the remaining excitement did not translate. Xavier gave a little nod, prompting you to continue.
"I've got the Weathervane too."
The ghost of a smile graces his lips, and you responded with your own grin.
A comfortable silence extended as you continued walking together. The sense of sheer dread in approaching the cafè was no longer so extreme, rather being overpowered by something else; electrifying thrill about spending the day with the boy you only really just met. A twinge of disappointment remained, of all places of course it had to be the Weathervane. But, nevertheless, you were still insanely grateful to Ajax for allowing you this opportunity.
Unbeknownst to you, Xavier was also feeling substantially perkier about the assignment. Ajax had managed to convince you, and his day would in fact be tolerable. Who knows, maybe it could even be fun - after all, a full morning with the girl he liked would undoubtedly be at least marginally enjoyable.
The two of you had subconsciously drifted closer as you walked, until eventually your hands ended up softly brushing together. A surge of electricity flowed through your body, skin burning in the place you had made contact. You almost felt as though your fingers were flaming, hand nothing but raging fire. A small glance out of the corner if your eye had you even more flushed, and a smile tugged at your lips.
What? No-one else had this kind of effect on you.
You wouldn't deny that you kind of liked it.
Regardless of your detour, and in spite of you and Xavier dragging out the walk as long as physically possible, eventually the two of you managed to reach the Weathervane. You shared a brief glance and a deep breath, before simultaneously pushing open the door.
"Nice of you to finally show up." Tyler's attempt at a joke did not translate. You both looked at him blankly, already sick of his shit, yet playing nice.
For now.
"Well, uh, I'll get you each a shirt and apron." Tyler awkwardly smiled. It was quickly dropped, however, when he was greeted with two intense glares. The both of you were entirely unimpressed, and evidently the innocent façade was never going to get you swooning for the normie.
He sighed lightly, wandering into the backroom behind the counter. You turned to Xavier, rolling your eyes and shaking your head softly, to which he responded with a smirk.
Soon enough, Tyler returned, holding two Weathervane uniforms. Enhanced by what you knew of his reputation, you really didn't like Galpin. He was incredibly tense and awkward, but in a really off-putting way that made it seem as though he had something to hide. His unsettling nature made for a largely uncomfortable, disconcerting atmosphere in the small café. The silence was prolonged in a way that starkly contrasted the relaxed ambience when meeting Xavier by the ruined mural. There may have been the odd awkward moment, yet it never felt like this.
On the topic of Xavier's mural, the memory of the sheer hurt on the already tortured artist's face was enough to make you cross your arms, resuming your disapproving glare towards the barista.
Your thoughts were disturbed by a disgusting vision that made your blood run cold.
Two normies held him down, forcing him to watch as dull, eggshell white paint was splashed over hours of work, like tippex covering a mistake. Mocking laughter rang through his ears as sharp pains radiated from each landed punch. Tears welled in his eyes as Galpins fist came pummeling onto his nose, causing excruciating agony.
Returning to your current reality, you discovered you had missed Tyler advising the two of you on where to change. A gentle hand resting on your right shoulder caused a surge of electricity to shock you out of your tempestuous mind, clearing any remaining flecks of the vision from your current consciousness.
"Sorry." Xavier smiled slightly, and your heart shattered like glass at how he was treated. "You seemed a little zoned out."
"Yeah, thanks." Was all you managed in response. Frowning, you trailed behind Tyler as he showed you the staff room at the back of the shop. When you returned, now kitted out in your very own apron and polo shirt, Xavier was already waiting for you. His tawny hair cascaded freely, very slightly covering the sides of his face. The crimson apron was tied behind his back, enhancing his slender figure. It was incredibly flattering, despite being the enemy uniform. Your cheeks flushed when you realised you had been staring. It may have been your imagination, but you could have sworn a pink tinge appeared on Xavier's face to match your own. The two of you maintained eye contact for a bit too long, before breaking it and quickly dropping your gazes to the floor.
As always, the moment was interrupted by fucking Tyler. So what if you were a little bit grateful this time? It was still Tyler.
"Have either of you ever used an espresso machine?" He asked, radiating an air of superiority that made turned your veins molten.
"You just press buttons. Probably." You answered snarkily, avoiding the question of whether you had actually used one and uttering the last word beneath your breath.
"Uh, I think there's a bit more to it than that." Tyler half-smiled.
You rolled your eyes again, and Xavier had to suppress a laugh at your extreme irritance caused by the barista. He just had that effect on you. The way he strode in on his high horse just because he happened to be the normie son of the sheriff made you sick, enhanced by his targeting of outcasts (mainly Xavier). The final straw was the innocent façade he upheld. So, no. You didn't like Galpin.
The sound of someone clearing their throat once again brought you to reality. Were you even trying to listen to Tyler teaching you to work the machine? No, that's why there were two of you. Besides, surely it wouldn't be that hard to wing for a few hours.
Your first task of the day was taking orders. It was simple, really. Head to the table, ask the customer for their order, then report back to Tyler. An easy task to ease you into the art of the establishment. Collecting a small notepad and pen, you and Xavier wandered to the only occupied table.in the whole café. A glimmer of mischief flickered in your eye as you looked up at Xavier, something that made his heart beat a little quicker and his hands tremble ever so slightly.
Back to the task at hand, you approached the booth, smiling sweetly.
"Hello, and welcome to the Weathervane!" You clasped your hands together. "Could I take your order?"
"Oh, just a latte."
Smiling once more, you scribbled onto the lined paper, offering a thank you to the man in the booth before wandering back to the counter, Xavier following close behind. Hoisting yourself up onto the countertop, you tossed the pad to Tyler. If it hit his face that wasn't your problem. You were quick to revert to false innocence, staring up at him with huge, blameless doe eyes.
"He wants a black coffee."
"He asked for an espresso."
You both responded at the same time, dissolving into giggles. Tyler frowned at you both, patience already wearing thin. Sighing, he picked up the paper and began making what he hoped was in fact the actual order.
Xavier shook his head at you, a pretty smirk resting on his face. He leant back on the counter you were sat on, using his arms to prop himself up.
"You know, I bet I could get more tips tha you if I tried." He teased, licking his lips and surpressing yet another smile.
"No way." You narrowed your eyes playfully.
"We'll see." He shrugged, sending you a wink that made your knees weak. It was certainly a good job that you were already seated.
After your antics on the easiest task possible, you and Xavier were demoted to table-cleaning. The two of you took a rag each, wiping the wooden surface at a snails pace.
"I've never even drank coffee." You muttered. "Apparently at pilgrim world they get free fudge. Imagine that." Huffing, you continued wiping slowly.
"Yeah, I mean, its alright but not something I'd dedicate my life to." You snickered at Xavier's subtle dig at Tyler, bringing a smile to his face.
"So, I suppose you prefer tea, then?" He responded, forcing a posh accent and butchering it. You crinkled your nose in distaste.
"Was that supposed to be me? And no, I don't like tea either." You responded, holding back a laugh.
"What? What kind of British person are you?"
"I'm really sorry to tell you this, Xavier. I actually am, but honestly, no-one I know from England drinks tea." You responded, laughing at his reaction.
"So what do you like to drink?" He asked.
"I don't know, Coke? Dr Pepper?"
"Okay, okay. Pepsi or Coke?" He asked urgently, as though it were a matter of life and death.
"Uhh. Will my answer change the way you think of me?" You questioned, a slight frown accompanying your amused smile.
"Oh, absolutely." He joked back.
"Okay, don't kill me, but I honestly can't tell the difference."
His eyes widened in shock as his jaw dropped sarcastically.
The two of you laughed again, smiling at eachother when the giggles died down. The gaze you gave held so much emotion to be directed at someone you barely knew. But with Xavier it didn't feel sudden. He licked his lips, and you accidentally let your eyes trail down. Even though it only lasted a split-second, you felt your cheeks light up as his lips pulled into a smirk.
"Are you guys almost done over there?" GALPIN.
A string of profanities exited your lips as you placed dirtied mugs onto the tray that rested on the table whilst Xavier's heart began to flutter at the thought of you looking at him like that.
~
Not paying attention to Tyler's demonstration proved to actually be a huge blessing. He was entirely sick of you, meaning you were immediately loaded off onto Xavier. Little did Galpin know, he wasn't listening either.
"Google it!" He whispered to you, warm breath fanning against your ear. The proximity was flustering, and you hoped beyond hope that Xavier couldn't see your hands shaking as you typed into the search bar.
"Uh, Xav?" You turned back to him, stopping suddenly when remembering how close he was to you. "I can't be bothered to do all this." You huffed.
If you noticed his cheeks reddening at the use of the nickname, you didn't mention it.
"I mean, we could always just.. not."
"I mean yeah I guess you could, but why would you waste time like that?"
"Passive aggressive much?" Xavier whispered, making you snicker softly in response.
"I heard that." The barista hissed through gritted teeth. "Just go and clean more tables then." Tyler sighed, shaking his head. You made eye contact with Xavier, squealing internally before racing back to the table. The two of you resumed scrubbing, both lost on thought.
The gentle knocking of his hand against yours dragged you from your thoughts, dispersing them as you flinched instinctively.
"Sorry." Xavier mumbled, though he did not make an effort to move his hand.
"No, it's fine." You responded quickly, refraining from retracting your own.
The tension was electrifying, and chills crawled over your skin when you finally made eye contact with the blonde artist. Wordlessly, the two of you seemed to inch closer, subconsciously drifting further into eachother's presence. Rags discarded on the equally abandoned table, Xavier leaned his head down slightly, licking his lips subtly.
"I guess you can go now, your shift is over" Tyler declared, rolling his eyes at the outcasts before him.
"Yeah, yeah. Fuck you too" Xavier flipped him off, already on his way to return to the comforting sapphire and raven stripes of Nevermore. You smiled sweetly, tossing up your own first and middle finger. (A backwards peace sign is like a British middle finger)
The return to the shuttle was solemn- the two of you had barely spoken prior to this, and you were unsure if you ever would again. But, you weren't going to take that chance.
"Hey, Xav?" You boldly decided it was absolutely now or never. Heart pounding as he hummed in response, you cleared your throat.
"I'm sorry if this is a bit too forward, but, do you think I could take your number? You're really cool and I don't want this to be the last time we ever speak."
With an adorable lopsided grin, he offered his hand, to which you gave your phone, already open to the contacts page.
~
Reaching the shuttle all too soon, you waved goodbye to Xavier sweetly, bouncing back to your seat next to Ajax. He let you take your window seat, because, after all, you had suffered through a day of Tyler Galpin.
"So, how did it go?" He asked, and you summoned all of your will strength as to not combust on the spot.
~
Let's just say Ajax's phone barely survived the night of pounding messages from both you and your tortured artist.
@blackenheartbutterfly this was hard because I absolutely loathe the smell of coffee 😂😂
Enid makes Wednesday a coffee body scrub, because of course she does 🖤🩷
Enid was something of a chemist, if you ever asked her what her hobbies included. She dabbled in all wares of self-care, from lotions, to creams, to any scrubs, even scented candles. Her nose was strong and sensitive, could pick up nuances in her creations with better ease than a bloodhound. She loved when things smelled nice, loved when she could change an entire mood, just by finding the proper scent. When she started rooming with Wednesday that first year, she learned that she smelled of peppermint and old books, metal polish, and a hint of something delightfully smokey. It was her favorite scent, especially since they’d started properly dating. She stole Wednesday’s hoodie as often as she could, sometimes even directly off her girlfriend, whenever she needed to be surrounded by the familiar, comforting scent.
She also learned that Wednesday was absolutely obsessed with coffee.
Enid was fully convinced that if she were to crack Wednesday Addams open, coffee would spill out. She learned how to make Wednesday’s preferred cup at the very beginning of her relationship, so that the antisocial seer could skip one more step in her usual morning routine: black with a dash of cinnamon.
It was after discovering this little fact about her girlfriend that Enid started toying around with the idea of a body scrub, handcrafted and perfectly tailored for her tiny paramour. Thing was her right-hand man in her different efforts, spending weeks trying to perfect the right amount of scent and the proper amount of grit, sure Wednesday would love the extra scrubbing power while in the shower. She’d tried it on herself and tried in on Thing, the deep, earthy aroma finally just the perfect amount of the well-loved brew that Wednesday enjoyed so much.
She flitted off to Jericho for a proper jar, none of her others the proper feel for such a gift, Thing perched on her shoulder as she shifted through the weird parts at Uriah’s Heap, the wolf eventually stumbling upon a skull-shaped mason jaw. Enid squeaked when she found it, quickly snatching it up and ringing out with Connie, the blonde skipping happily down the street to start on her brisk walk back to the academy. She hit the campus, already knowing that Wednesday was with Eugene, the time to collect their latest batch of honey upon the Hummers this time of year.
Enid sprinted up to their dorm and let Thing down onto their spare bed, the wolf disappearing into her closet for her stash of black-hued trimmings, sure to always keep something on hand, for the amount of times she found herself showering her girlfriend with gifts. She prepared everything perfectly, screwing on the lid to her jar and wrapping it in layers of black tissue paper, finishing the gift with a small, black metallic bow. She left it on the edge of her desk for Wednesday’s inevitable return as she got down to her own work, a K-pop playlist blaring in the background.
She heard familiar footsteps after a while, Enid cutting the music and snatching up her gift, keeping it hidden behind her back as she rocked on the balls of her feet, excitedly awaiting the return of her favorite person.
Wednesday sighed as she cracked the door open, weary from so much work out in the shed, her shoulders unfairly tight as she shrugged off her backpack, and looked up, noticing the excitable air about her girlfriend. Her face wrinkled in curiosity as she walked to meet Enid, her lips pursed as she peered up into those pretty blue eyes.
“You are excited,” she blinked at the eager nod, her arms absently folding as she openly surveyed the blonde, still in her uniform, “Have I missed something, querida?”
Enid snorted out a small laugh, shaking her head as she lifted one of her hands to lovingly tug on the corner of Wednesday’s lapel, “No, silly, you haven’t missed anything! I got you something, though,” she brought the gift out from behind her back, and presented the small bundle, “Ta-da!”
Wednesday glanced down at the small gift, her ears tipped red at the unsolicited present before reaching out to accept it, surprised at the weight as it settled in her palm. Her eyes flicked up to Enid, her flush darkening to a scarlet red as she read the happiness on Enid’s face, her heart flustering at how deeply it managed to always affect her.
She paced a step away as she unwrapped the hefty gift, her brows furrowing as she uncovered the skull-shaped jar, turning her head back toward Enid in mild confusion. The blonde chuckled and walked over, holding her hand out for the trash before nodding toward the jar.
“Wens, you have to open it,” she teased, and bent down to press a quick kiss to her cheek.
The seer nodded absently and screwed the lid off, the delectable smell of coffee immediately permeating her senses, her lashes fluttering slightly at the lovely aroma. Wednesday turned back to Enid, a silent question pressed into her face that had Enid grinning brightly in response.
“It’s a body scrub! I made it myself. Took forever to get the smell right, I had SO much tweaking to do. I figured you could use it whenever you wanted something different.”
Wednesday nodded, bending her head down to get a proper sniff before dipping her finger into the strange scrub, “Thank you, querida, this was unexpected.”
Enid wriggled her shoulders in excitement, Wednesday wandering back to her girlfriend to properly kiss her in hello and in thanks before closing the lid up tight, and leaving it off in the shower stall for later.
She didn’t miss the way Enid’s face lit up when she escaped the bathroom after her shower that night, her cheeks warm with affection at the thoughtful gift, the smell of coffee permanently ingrained into her skin.
She LOVED it.
Ignorance
Tumblr media
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Author's Note : Okay she's here! This is 2.5K, I hope you enjoy it! Please leave me your thoughts, if you'd be so kind. I'm so happy that you all liked the first story I wrote. It motivated me to write this!
Synopsis : Y/N goes to Uriah's dormitory and gets incredibly tipsy (she's obliterated). Her instructor discovers this and is snarky with her because he's jealous.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Present Time
My head is fucking pounding. I can hear only the persistent throbbing echoing throughout my brain. But it's what I deserve.
Uriah invited me to a “small” gathering happening among him and his two fellow Dauntless-Born companions. What I didn’t expect was the mass amount of alcohol that we were going to consume that night.
But I didn’t exactly say no.
I will never deny an opportunity to have fun. When I lived with the Abnegation, there was zero tolerance for fun. It’s the one regulation I will never miss. There were aspects that I loved, like the simplicity and generosity of the people, but the negative aspect of this faction is that they were far too rigid.
In that, Dauntless is the complete opposite. And it’s the reason I’ve fallen in love with how at ease life is here. There are zero regulations (which is.. concerning), but to me that only indicates freedom.
Which is why last night, I drank. I consumed every shot that was handed to me, which if I remember correctly was eight. I’d never drank an ounce of alcohol before yesterday, which should have steered me into complacency but it didn’t.
Uriah’s Dormitory - The Day Before
My face is slightly red as I feel the warmth of the liquor pulsing through me, and I’m trying desperately to contain the giggle slipping by.
We’re in Uriah’s dormitory. There’s six of us: Myself, Uriah, Lynn, Christina, Marlene, and Will. Christina and Will are desperately attempting to sing a chosen song, a microphone in each hand and while everyone is laughing and enjoying the euphoric sensation rolling through them, I feel the entire weight of my figure get heavy.
Uriah laughs at my expression, “Are you okay!”
And before I can even respond, I’m shaking my head with an erupting laugh, “No! No! I can’t stop laughing”.
I feel Uriah plop beside me, and I let my back hit the mattress as I see him lay across it. We’re a chaotic mess of laughing and bloodshot eyes. I blink at him slowly and see the lazy grin on his face.
“I am so fucking drunk right now”.
His grin stretches, “I feel complete. I’ve managed to intoxicate a girl from Abnegation. I never thought I would see the day”.
I raise an eyebrow in disbelief and let out a laugh as I say, “This is the first and the last time. I swear it”.
I don’t, actually.
I’m having far too much fun. Christina and Will are doing Karaoke, Lynn and Marlene are holding onto each-other for balance as they laugh so hard that they’re wheezing, and Uriah and I are laying across his mattress trying to gather our bearing’s.
I can do this for the rest of my life. This faction is so liberating in spite of its faults.
Before I’m able to register it, Uriah is gripping onto my two wrists and using them as leverage to pull me upright. I’m still a pile of limbs, my body incoherent almost, but I grin as I see him pulling me to my feet.
Once I’m standing I hear a quick, “Our turn!” and my eyes widen dramatically. I can’t sing.
“No, Uriah! I can’t!”
But he’s smiling and I relent as he directs us to the stand that’s hosting the microphones. I pick one up, and as soon as I recognize the song that’s playing I turn to Uriah excitedly and exclaim, “How do you know this song!”
–––
Present Time
When I manage to open my eyes, I’m groggy. Beside me is Uriah, and beside him is Lynn as well as Marlene. We all fell asleep at his dormitory. I use the knuckle of my finger to get completely free of the drowsiness that is looming over me.
I groan as I force myself to sit up. I push myself toward the opposite side of the mattress, softly tying my laces and straightening my clothing. I laugh a little when I see Christina and Will on the couch beside the microphone post. Regardless of how close they’ve managed to become, they swear that they aren’t romantic. Yeah right.
I’ve become accustomed to waking up at 4 in the morning given my training session with Four. In spite of the fact that the first stage is complete, he’s prolonged our training. I didn’t ask him, he simply did. I’d expected him to stop the session, but he never opened the topic, and I certainly wasn’t going to propose it.
I enjoyed our time together.
In the last six week’s, Four and I have built upon our relationship. Our dynamic is.. fairly complicated. There are moments where I feel the tension dissipate and it often indicates the beginning of a friendship, but then he can quickly revert to the distant instructor I see so often.
I can admit that it hurts. I don’t know where I stand when I’m with him and it’s by far the most confusing relationship I’ve ever had. He’s gentle and patient one moment, and the next he’s curt and stern.
This pattern of inconsistency is only intensifying my doubt. I have no clue as to whether or not he thinks I’m attractive. Or if he even likes me. And it’s only served to irritate me. When I see him, I remain indifferent.
It’s for the absolute best is what I tell myself. He’s clearly not interested in me. He had six entire week’s to give me even an inkling that he likes me, and he hasn’t. I can’t help the disappointment that I feel, I’d thought given the tension within our first session that there was more, but I can’t force him to find me appealing, can I?
I make my way into Uriah’s restroom, searching through the cabinet until I find what I was in need of. A new toothbrush. There’s no way I’m going to train with my insanely hot instructor without brushing my teeth. It’s like asking him to stop training me, when in reality I want to improve. I want to succeed here.
I wash my face, and even manage to brush my hair with a new comb I found stashed beside his toothbrush. I slip out of his dormitory as quietly as I can manage, trying to let them rest. I can’t have them discovering where I go so early in the morning. It wasn’t explicitly said that my training with Four is going against a protocol, but I don’t want to involve him if it is. So I maintain this secret for myself.
It’s 4:47 when I stroll into the training center, and I thank myself internally when I see that I’m alone. He isn’t here yet. I go toward the fountain, and sip on the fresh water pouring through as I wait for him to arrive.
I walk onto the platform, and begin to stretch softly, knowing that I’ll love the open range of motion it’ll give me when I’m fighting against Four. He doesn’t train me easily, not like he started throughout our first session. I’ve landed on my spine so many times, albeit softly. He isn’t unnecessarily rough, but he is rough enough to get his lesson through.
I have my arm in front of me as I do a stretch when I hear the unmistakable latch of the front door. I peer over my shoulder and see the set of his face; cold.
He isn’t happy.
I carefully watch as he steps onto the platform and before I can register it I’m blurting out, “Nice night?”, with the intention of lightening the atmosphere.
His expression doesn’t change, and he doesn’t even meet my eye when he curtly says, “For some”.
This has my eyes widening slightly, as I’m a bit stunned. His body language is telling me that, unfortunately, he was not as fortunate. He’s tense, and his fists are clenched so tightly that the veins on his forearms are prominent. I put my arm down from my stretch and tilt my head, as I mutter to myself, “Okay, then”.
My attention snaps to him when I hear him say in an almost dull tone, “You look exhausted”. I frown wondering why he would point that out, but regardless I respond reluctantly, “We went to Uriah’s dormitory last night”.
All I get in response is an indifferent, “We?”. He’s not even looking at me, which confuses me. He’s untying his laces in order to get into position. Why is he being so adamant on evading me?
I shift from one foot to the other, ease in my voice, “Yep. Uriah, Will, Christina, Marlene, and Lynn. We were.. just learning how to play a card game”. It’s silly to not be honest about this but I don’t know if telling your initiation instructor that you got obliterated the night before is appropriate.
He meets my eye. Finally, but he’s looking at me without amusement as he fires in response, “Guzzling alcohol must be synonymous with learning a card game”.
I’m astounded by how affected he is at learning that his initiates are drinking. It’s entirely normal, but it’s not like I’m going to advertise it too. I furrow my eyebrow at the bite in his tone and feel irritation bubbling within me.
“How do you know what we were doing?”, I respond indignantly.
I watch as his shoulders tense, and it would have been entirely unrecognizable if not for the fact that I’m constantly observing him. I can’t help it, I want to understand him. How he thinks, what he’s feeling, and it goes beyond attraction. There’s a magnetic pull that I feel when I’m with him.
He’s seamless in his response, “It isn’t exactly difficult to figure out. You're pale and dehydrated”.
I tilt my head and slightly narrow my vision, “There’s no way for you to know that I’m dehydrated, Four”. I’ve caught him; he’s a liar. I stare at him intently as I analyze his carefully crafted expression. I think about last night, attempting to recall a memory that could help me decipher how he’s in the loop of what I did in Uriah’s dormitory.
And I do.
It was Zeke. He came to Uriah’s dormitory to tell him about a family dinner.. and in return he helped us all consume as much water as possible. And he forced us all to swallow an Acetaminophen Tablet to prevent the headache that all of us would surely have the following morning.
He must’ve told Four when he left. I don’t know how, or when, but it’s the only possibility that I can think of. Zeke and Four have a friendship and because of that Four is going to hear about Uriah’s antics. Zeke likely mentioned to Four that his entire group of initiates is going to be fucking hungover for the session today.
He isn’t entirely wrong.
Four doesn’t react, simply getting into position and motioning for me to replicate it. But I don’t. I glance at the clock and read the time as 4:54, muttering, “It’s not 5 o'clock yet. We have time”.
–––
Four’s Point of View
I narrow my gaze at her and try to prevent my body language from giving away just how much irritation is coursing through me.
I’ve felt this gnawing sense of discomfort fill me since the moment Zeke entered my apartment last night, divulging how Uriah and three of my initiates are getting “hammered” in his dormitory.
It isn’t the alcohol that has me tensing my shoulders, or narrowing my gaze at her, it's the disturbing thought that she was with him. I’ve noticed how close they’ve become.. they eat together, I see them in the pit together, and apparently Zeke placed her to sleep beside Uriah last night as well. Granted there were two extra people on the mattress with them.
In spite of the fact that logically, I’m aware nothing could have occurred, there’s a persistent ache of discomfort in my chest that I can’t identify properly. This can’t be jealousy. I can’t like her.
And yet, when I flick my gaze to her, and locate the determination in her eyes to find out what I’m hiding, I find my throat going dry in appeal.
“I didn’t agree to having a conversation with you, I agreed to train you so that you can improve your fighting” I respond curtly.
There’s a flicker of hurt that catches on her expression and it immediately has me wanting to retract my response. But I don’t, because I can’t. If I tell her the truth, about what I know, I’ll have to explain why I’ve reacted the way that I have. And that will open a conversation that can’t be opened until she isn’t my initiate. Until I can tell her how I feel without putting her in a position where she might feel obligated to return my affection.
It isn’t fair to her. And if I’m going to pursue this.. It has to be done correctly.
So I persist, “Position yourself”.
But she doesn’t. She’s hesitating, and it frustrates me. She grits out in irritation, “Tell me how you know what we were doing”.
I’m almost stunned by the way she’s spoken to me. Y/N has always maintained that line of respect even through the telling of a joke, or when we’re in a session. But now she’s wary, and she’s considering the truth as a possibility; that I like her.
The thought that Y/N might discover my affection for her has reverted me to the default personality that I’ve adopted since the moment that I chose this faction; cold. I cannot let her figure it out before she’s designated an official member.
I pause, tilting my head in an almost sadistic way as I stalk toward her as intimidatingly as I can. My demeanor is insulting, and I’m aware that the next thing I say may ruin the small connection that we’ve developed. But what choice do I have?
“I advise that you learn how to address your superior. I only agreed to this to help you learn how to fight. If you aren’t going to comply, then get out”, his tone is menacingly calm, but there is an undercurrent of condescension. He’s speaking to her in a manner that would resemble a conversation he’s having with an imbecile.
And it’s enough to hurt her feelings. He sees the flicker of emotion on her face before she decidedly takes a step away from him.
Her expression is masked, a glimpse of nothing. “Fine”, she mutters, voice indifferent. Her expression is blank when she glances away from him. And it’s blank as she laces her shoes. And when I hear the latch of the steel entryway, I groan as I come to terms with the fact that I’ve only pushed her further into the arm’s of Uriah, and directly away from me. She’s going to hate me. I watched the hurt consume her, and then I watched her mask it with the ease only a person from Abnegation can adopt. I wonder if she’ll come back tomorrow.
Would you be able/willing to write an Eric Coulter x reader soulmate au where you feel a dulled version of your soulmate’s pain (more of an awareness of there being pain, and knowing where that pain is then actual pain) after you meet them for the first time, and the way that Eric figures out that the reader is his soulmate is because she suffers from chronic migraines and one day she’s missing from training and he finds her curled into the foetal position on the bathroom floor trying to keep still so the room stops spinning long enough for her to stand up? Maybe he takes her to the infirmary or maybe he doesn’t, but the entire time she’s like that he has maybe the worst headache he’s had in his entire life and he knows it’s nothing compared to what she deals with almost everyday.
My Pain
Eric Coulter x Reader soulmate au
Tumblr media
I lay curled up in bed hearing the snores and the eerie quietness of the dauntless dorm. I looked around to see everyone asleep but me. This damn headache kept me awake the whole night.
I try to fall asleep squeezing my eyes shut as hard as possible but to no avail. I hear loud footsteps approaching the dorm, knowing it's Four here to wake us up. I silently got out of bed, quickly changing my shirt and putting on my shoes since I decided to sleep in my sweats.
The migraine was still killing me, I wondered if my soulmate could feel the amount of pain I was feeling, or if he was able to get any sleep?
I walked down towards the dauntless cafeteria, hoping I still had an appetite. As I approached, I saw Uriah already awake eating cake. I sat on the bench across from Uriah taking a piece of bread.
"Why are you eating cake at 7 in the morning?" I said with a teasing smile. "Why not? It's delicious" Uriah replied stuffing the rest of the cake in his mouth.
I quietly giggle under my breath. "Are you not hungry, You Usually finish like 5 pieces of bread", Uriah said with a concerned look. "Yeah I'm fine, just a migraine," I said with a fake smile but Uriah saw right through that.
A booming voice interrupted me and Uriah's conversation, "Initiates hurry up, you have two minutes to get to the gym". I look to find Eric standing there with all his glory. He looked out of place among the dauntless maybe it was his emotionless face or his bright blue eyes. But that didn't matter, all I felt was this throbbing migraine, How does one even get a migraine.
I quickly got up rushing towards the gym.
Four told us to run 10 laps, I started running but it kept feeling worse and worse. My head was pounding because of the immense pain, and I felt as if I wanted to puke. We finally finished and by that I mean I was the last one done. Immediately I fell on the floor, trying to regain my breath from the run.
Hearing footsteps, I look up to meet those blue eyes that haunt me. "That was pathetic", Eric said glaring at me as if I was dirt on his shoe. "What," I said getting up from the floor and glaring back at him ignoring the pain I was feeling. " what makes you think you can get into Dauntless if you can barely run 10 laps, He said as if running 10 laps around the compound was the easiest thing to do. Thankfully before I could reply, Four told us to partner up and fake fight. I left feeling Eric's eyes gapping through my head.
I was partnered with Tris, she was decent. I felt so dizzy feeling like I could pass out any minute. I left Tris telling four I had to use the restrooms. I made it in the restrooms splashing some water on my face to wake me up. I sat on the bathroom floor in the foetal position trying to keep still so the room stopped spinning long enough for me to stand up. I sat there for what felt like forever not having the strength to return to training.
Eric P.O.V
Where is she? it's already been half an hour, I said rubbing my hand over my chin and looking for Y/N. I don't know, she said she needed to use the restroom, Four said not even glancing at me but only focusing on that stiff. I huff walking out of the gym to the restrooms, Ever since last night I have been feeling some headache pain but it's been feeling worse recently. I hope she didn't skip if she knows what is best for her.
I expected to see an empty restroom but saw Y/N curled on the floor, crying. Hey, are you okay? I was trying to approach her but didn't know what to say. I am not good at comforting people at all. I gently pick her up bridal style, carrying her to my apartment. I approach my apartment opening the door with my keys.
It was bigger than most apartments because I was a leader. it was spacious with a living room and a bookshelf near my desk. I walked towards my bedroom gently laying her on my bed since she was asleep.
I could she didn't get any sleep because her eye bags and her nose looked so red because of the crying. She looked so peaceful but I know in reality she was hurting. I waited for a couple of hours until she woke up, Training for today was already over.
Y/n P.O.V
I woke feeling well rested, the covers were so soft it felt like silk, It was so warm and I didn't want to ever leave. If I didn't realize this was not the dorm but someone's apartment.
I carefully slid off the bed checking if my clothes were still on. I tiptoed towards what seemed to be the living room but who was there surprised me. "Eric", I whispered his head immediately looking toward me. "how are you feeling? I made some tea if you wanted some, He said but all I could was nod yes. He pats the seat next to him on the couch, and I quickly sat next to him. I waited for him to speak but he just kept looking at me with these different emotions, it felt overwhelming to look in his eyes.
" what happened and why am I in your apartment?", I said trying to recall what had happened. Eric's voice interrupted my thought, "I found you laying on the bathroom floor asleep so I carried you here because they were full in the infirmary." "Thank you, Eric". I felt grateful he had helped me and that my migraine felt less intense than before.
"What happened, why were you on the floor?" Eric began to stay seeing how curious to know what made me pass out. "I had a migraine since last night and It got worse throughout the day". I replied, expecting Eric to kick me out but instead, I heard him whisper last night over and over as if trying to solve a mystery.
"Y/N, I think I am your soulmate", He said putting his hand through his hair. Okay, that wasn't what I was expecting him to say. "what, are you sure?" I said not believing him. You said you got your migraine last night well so did I and it felt worse today, especially when you passed out. And I know it sounds cliche but when I held you I felt sparks.
"Here I will prove it." This man decided to punch himself in the face to prove he was my soulmate. That's kinda sweet but stupid but still sweet. "Owe, Okay I believe you but please don't punch yourself on purpose again", I said as I rubbed my cheek angrily with a pout on my lips.
"I'm happy I found my soulmate, even if it is the scary leader", I said with a teasing grin I probably look stupid right now but I didn't care I was just happy I found my soulmate and didn't have to die lonely. "I am happy my soulmate is someone I tolerate", Eric said smiling. It was my first time seeing him smile knowing it wouldn't be the last.
Xavier Thrope x Addams!fem! Reader
Warnings: Tyler Galpin, lazy ending
Note: just some fluff! i wrote this a while ago and I just need something to post. Reader is Wednesday’s sister 💚
You pushed open the door of the Weathervane, the chime of the little bell irritating your ears. A tortoise shell cat following close behind you.
“Welcome to the Weathervane how can I help you?” Tyler the barista your sister had taken a slight interest in greeted automatically, “Oh- sorry y/n, what can I get you?” He asked once seeing it was you.
You stared at him for a moment before greeting him coldly, “Hello Tyler.” You repositioned the strap of your cross body bag before speaking again. “I’m here for Xavier, not coffee.”
“Oh. I see. I can go get him.” Tyler replied awkwardly before heading towards the back of the cafe
You stood by the counter waiting. After a minute you finally see the long haired boy.
“Hello, Xavier.” You greet, much less coldly than you did the other boy.
“Hey, didn’t think I’d see you around the Weathervane, seeing as you don’t particularly like coffee.” Xavier smiled at you as he leaned on the counter.
“I’m done with my assignment actually.” You state, “I didn’t feel like torturing myself further by going to Pilgrim World to visit my sister so I decided to come here instead.”
“Well I’m flattered that you’ve come to see me. I can brew you some tea if you want.” He offered.
“No need, I’m not in the mood for a cup of tea.” You decline.
“So.. how was your day at Uriah’s Heap?” He asked as he started making coffee.
“I quite enjoyed myself honestly, the shop was good and I found many things I liked. But I would have enjoyed my time much more if Enid wasn’t flirting with Ajax the entire time.” You sighed.
Xavier chuckled before starting to make a latte, “Seems you’ve got yourself a little friend there.” He remarked looking at the cat rubbing itself against your legs.
You looked down at the fluffy cat, your gaze softening, “He’s been following me since I left Uriah’s Heap. I’m surprised that it’s so fond of someone like me.” You bent down to pick up the cat and held it in your arms like a little baby.
“He’s not the only one fond of you, you know.” Xavier passed on the latte to Tyler before going back to looking at you.
“Are you saying you’re fond of me, Xavier?” You asked looking at the boy
Your gentle expression made him smile boyishly, “What if I am, hm?”
“Then I would say that I’ve grown fond of you to.” You replied looking into his eyes.
“Really?” He asked, a bit surprised.
“Yes, you’re one of the only people who doesn’t make me want to crawl into an endless abyss to avoid them.” You joke but it didn’t really work considering your tone sounded the same.
“I’ll take that as win.” He smiled and straightened back up.
You gently placed the cat down on the floor, “Anyway. I decided to call the cat Belphegor and got him a collar after I purchased some things at Uriah’s heap.” You say as you dug through your bag trying to find the collar you bought. You pulled out a spiked black collar from your bag and ripped off the packaging.
“Love the collar. It fits right in with your.. aesthetic.” Xavier commented.
“I didn’t pick it, he did. I would of rather given him a sophisticated bow tie but he was very insistent on getting this one.” You said crouching down to the cats level so you could put on its collar.
He chuckled at the thought of you arguing with the cat in collar isle of the pet store while it just meowed loudly back, “What else did you get?” He asked.
“A few shirts and sweaters.” You shrugged, “and a gift for you..which I’d rather give to you in private.” You said shyly.
“You’re full of surprises today, y/n” He grinned.
You rolled your eyes, “When does your shift end?”
Xavier checked the clock mounted on the wall, “In about half an hour.” He sighed.
You visibly deflated, “Well then, can I get a cup of tea then?”
“Of course, what kind?” He got a mug ready.
“Black tea.” You replied getting out your wallet.
“Don’t worry about paying, it’s on the house.” He smiled, before turning around to prepare your tea.
While his back was turned you stuffed a five dollar bill into the tip jar before sitting down at a table near by.
Your leg bounced anxiously as you waited.
You really hoped he was going to like it..
Alexei would probably see helplessly flopping mer!Uriah and just be like "oh, too easy"
zap, grilled fish.
out of my Wildefire cast, Annie is the most likely to make him a poor tormented pet. Out of just the 'heroes', Maggie is probably the most likely.
Hii! Can I request how Wednesday would react to you ignoring her the whole day? Maybe even avoiding her just for the fun of it.
Hi anon! I wrote a sfw and nsfw version so you can pick what you would prefer to read. I am using female anatomy for this but you can imagine it as a gn!reader.
SFW
Tumblr media
Wednesday would not be happy, to say the least.
She sent you a good morning text and it stayed on read.
She let that go. Maybe you just forgot to respond.
You walk to class together, it’s always a silent walk that she enjoys.
You don’t hold her hand this time, which isn’t very alarming by itself.
She lets this go too.
You’re paired up for a school assignment and Wednesday ends up putting in most of the work.
You’re not even trying and when Wednesday tries to get your input you just nod or mutter under your breath.
But then she notices something. There’s a slight rise at the ends of your lips.
You’re stifling a laugh.
So you’ve been doing this on purpose.
Wednesday does not take kindly to snubs.
She will play along for a bit.
When she ignores you, you drop your guard and ask her what’s wrong.
Checkmate.
“I became aware of your pathetic little act in our first class of the day. You cannot fool me.”
Wednesday will have you do her homework for the next couple days to make up for this behavior.
She will also demand a couple items from Uriah’s Heap.
NSFW
Tumblr media
Every time she talks to you and you blatantly ignore her, the vein on her forehead gets bigger.
She has to do something about this.
She will randomly pull your hair to get your attention, but you won’t budge.
She will make you break.
When you go into the bathroom she shoves you into a stall and sits you down on the toilet.
She bestows upon you hickeys.
Everywhere.
On your inner thigh specifically.
She also gets a little naughty and shows you what will happen if you keep acting up.
Her tongue does all of the work and leaves you a quivering mess, trying to stay quiet so you don’t get caught.
You grab her head to try to pull her off but she nips your clit in retaliation.
There’s no getting her off of you.
She will make you cum over and over until you’re ready to pass out.
Your cum will be trickling down her chin and she won’t even care.
If you’re still doing this ridiculous conduct she will punish you at night when you’re in your dorm.
She will lock your roommate in Eugene’s beekeeping shed.
Then she will have her way with you and tame this behavior.
It’ll be a repeat of what happened in the bathroom but she will actually use her fingers on you.
She’ll hit your g-spot until you’re screaming.
While at the same time she’s sucking the life out of your clit.
You will definitely be sore the next day.
Nobody but the two of you will know why.
Wednesday will be in a particularly joyful mood too.
It’s with great sorrow that we learned minutes ago that 19 years old Uriah Bayer succumbed to his head injuries caused by a Hamas IED in Gaza. Uriah’s family of strong believers moved to Israel many years ago from Germany and built a home for Holocaust survivors in northern Israel. Please keep the parents Gideon and Nelly and their 4 kids in your prayers. Two of the children are serving in the IDF at the moment.
Happiness Is A Butterfly - Zack Addy x Reader
They/Them pronouns. 2,400 words. Pt.1.
Being a part of the rotating interns was difficult. Trying to keep up with Dr. Hodgins comments only his friends understood was difficult. Dr. Brennan's impossibly high standards for the professional environment were petrifying, and confusing from her friendly relationship with Agent Booth. Angela was emotionally intelligent but touchy on certain subjects. And Camille was the boss.
The way they flowed together was unmatchable, it was good for Y/N.
When the team was boiled down to their main characteristics; Hodgins was sarcastic and wanted someone who had thick skin to appreciate his pointed remarks, but smart enough to understand them.
Dr. Brennan just wanted you to do your job, and be understanding of how much time you have to allocate to keep the position. Agent Booth wants someone to understand his un-scientific humor.
Angela likes to talk about things you see outside of the lab, but also wants the discourse and drama of the people inside. Camille wants you to be able to testify and not annoy her with anything other than basic polite company and case related topics.
Y/N is a chronic people pleaser.
Then their is Dr. Addy. Dr. Zachary Uriah Addy, to be precise.
Dr. Addy was Brennan's previous grad student, her set grad student. Until he made pals with a serial killer and ate somebody. Their was little media coverage on who was caught for the crimes the serial killer committed, but it happening at the Jeffersonian?
People talked, and you listened.
It was fascinating to be in the place where it all happened, but you couldn't ask any of your coworkers about him. Anytime his name was said it was followed by a quick glance and a reminder that "Dr. Addy no longer works here."
Camille never referred to him by name. Everyone else did. The case you were working on now Hodgins had him at the forefront of his mind, "Zack would know more about this.", "Zack would've said that-"
You can't be Zack, but the fascination pressed on.
"Ask him then." Y/N said bluntly. The skull had damage all over and they were examining it, subtly watching Hodgins mannerisms.
"It's not that simple and you know that" His face was a little red and he had a soft line in between his bushy eyebrows. He was annoyed.
"Would you hurry up with the head Brennan will be here any second and I have to get the particulates."
You raised your eyebrows and the sudden outburst. "Its 'The Cranium' actually." He gave a dejected snort and a small smile at your attempt to lighten the mood while handing over the skull.
"Why isn't it that simple?" He stopped, "What do you mean."
"Asking Zack?" He took a deep breath and kept walking back to his station. Inclined for an answer you followed.
"Right, I forget you don't know him."
"Dr. Addy did some bad things and isn't working here anymore that's all nothing more nothing less." Camille snapped a fresh pair of gloves on her hands.
"You said their was some flesh flakes for me Y/N?" You laughed a little, "Yes Dr. Saroyan theirs some skin left behind in between the metatarsal bones and phalanges on the feet, what do you make of the scraping? it's all over the remains." Camille's eyes slightly opened in recognition. She pressed her lips into a thin line, moving to the table the bones rested on, "I'm not sure that's more a... Dr. Brennan question."
"Okay sounds good I'll just wait I suppose." Camille gave you a tight lipped smile as she walked away to examine the skin.
"Put the markers on this and give it to Angela, I have to go talk to Brennan." Hodgins shoved the skull into your hands, the marks were rough to the touch. He shuffled down the stairs towards Dr. Brennan using the pole for support. Probably contaminating it with the gloves he carelessly forgot to remove.
While placing the identifying markers and cleaning the pole with a chlorine based disinfectant spray, Y/N listened in on their hushed conversation. Only hearing bits and pieces. Talk of Zack and the scraping looking familiar but deeper and more rigid. When they walked up to give Angela the skull, the conversation died out and Booth cleared his throat.
"I've placed the markers," Handing the skull to Angela, "-and the remains are ready for you Dr. Brennan."
"Yes lets do that now."
They suspect cannibalism, and you knew they were relating it to Zack.
-
Dr. sweets was your friend in all of this. Feeling left out of their flow you talked about them together. Growing up in a household with angry spontaneous parents, you read people. You knew what they were feeling and knew what to say to keep peace. Growing up in the foster system Lance did the same. You two had that in common.
"So the remains are covered in teeth marks, were suspecting cannibalism." Sweets choked on his Miami vice cocktail. He drinks them because he likes Miami vice as a show, but mostly he cant take the flavor of more 'manly' drinks.
"Sorry, here." you hand him a napkin.
"Their all relating it to Zack?" He said gingerly dabbing his mouth.
"Yeah, how'd you know?" He tilts his head to the side scanning the left side of his brain, recalling events.
"I was there when it happened. Even though I barely knew him, It's still the first thing in my mind."
You look down absent mindedly running the rim of your finger around the mouth of your drink resting your cheek on a loose fist. "What's on your mind Y/N?"
"Don't treat me like a patient Dr. Sweets," He gives a lopsided smile and ducks is head down to your slumped eye level. "They asked me to come back tomorrow since I've 'seen so much of the case already."
"Odd?"
"Yes!"
"And you're not happy?"
You sighed while sitting up to see him clearer,
"I'm happy, just tired." Sweets takes a sip of his drink to wet his throat,
"I'll see you tomorrow then-"
"Why"?
"Look whos asking questions now." He raises his eyebrows and gives you childish grin,
"They want me to ask Zack about some things, something sodium or the other. Which is salt so that is odd. I think everyone knows that's salt. Right? Anyone I was thinking someone should come with me but their all so hesitant to face him-"
"Sodium Bicarbonate, baking soda. We found traces if it on the remains- is that in invitation?" You both knew it was, but with sweets you don't need to read in between the lines when you can ask.
"Ill need to talk to Brennan and Booth but yeah, I need a mediator for the science talk."
"I think you could hold your own," You say, finishing off your drink, "but if I have to we should celebrate." they get up to order more drinks.
"Don't pretend like your not excited Y/N"
-
Case file in hand, you had everything laid out. You had your assumptions and everyone's findings written down systematically. Like how deep the teeth marks on the bones were, and the sodium bicarbonate particulates. As well as the traces of hydrofluoric acid in the left over skin on the toes. Having no clue on who he was besides talk, it was hard to think about how to act appropriately. So Y/N went with the basics. They dressed in blues since the color has calming properties, and parted their hair to the left, which conveys intelligence.
"Don't you look professional. Sweets said opening the door for them.
"I'm going for the nice kindergarten teacher look." Y/N said.
"More like the science teacher in middle school that plays movies every Friday after a shitty test." Perfect.
"Even better." He moves his arm behind their headrest to reverse,
"You nervous?" Completely and utterly, but saying that out loud made it true. Y/N was scared to meet him like one was scared to meet their favorite band. That they won't live up to unrealistic expectations.
"A little, but I'm mostly excited." He glances at you, he knows that's not the whole truth but it goes unspoken. The two of you are left with silence. But not a comfortable silence like usual.
"Don't get too excited he's not that cool." and then it melts away,
"Is someone jealous?"
"Get off your high horse, were here."
"Oh-" he softly grabs your hand and you flinch, "Y/N."
He takes the folder and sets it on the dash taking your other hand,
"are you okay?" He says quietly. You squeeze his hands and nod,
"You tore the folder a little with your nails, I know you're scared but he's harmless." Your eyes meet and he gives you a reassuring nod.
"He killed someone Lance, that's terrifying." He sighs and looks down before cupping his hand and whispering in your ear, "Between you and me, no, no he didn't"
"What-"
"Please state your name and why you're here?" The guard says though the speaker.
"Here to see inmate Zachary Addy, I have an appointment for 12:30?"
Sweets looked at you over his shoulder at you, apologetically.
"You can go through." The gate buzzes and slowly opens.
-
"We didn't have an appointment until Monday Dr. Sweets-" A voice says lowly through the door. As they walk through, he stops himself and stares at Y/N.
"who's that?" Zack asks tentatively, not bothering to ask you directly. His face was smooth having small patches of hair across his chin an jawline. It was light enough to be unnoticeable. It contrasted with his dark, disheveled hair.
"Their just here to explain the case better than I can Zack."
Zack thought for a moment, fiddling with the thick black gloves that encapsulated his hands.
"That was unnecessary, the file could've been handed over without explanation ." Zack holds his hand out for the folder, still staring at Lance. His eyes were dull and half lidded, emotionless to the situation. Sweets pulled out your chair for you and sat in his own, parallel to Zack. His hands were in cuffs with a chain linked to the table. It didn't calm Y/N's anxiety, he was a genius. Cuffs couldn't hold him if he truly wanted to get out.
The Dr. furrowed his brows in confusion, making connections in his mind. The cuffs, the way Dr. Sweets seemed to be so friendly with you, "You're my replacement."
He finally looked at you, his dull brown eyes swirled with something. Jealousy? Concern?
Y/N met his eye contact willingly, forcing the nervous cringe of their face back. You never show a predator weakness.
"Me an about a dozen other people." They flip open the folder and graze through the papers breaking the heavy eye contact, landing on the sheet that listed main points about the case. Picking out high resolution photos of the bones as well. They wanted to ask all about why Zack was in here. Why he was, how he could do that, what convinced him it was a good idea to cause such grief. Most of all if he really didn't kill that man.
He studied them, like a case of his own. Carefully looking them over, limb by limb, over the buttons on your shirt and the steady rise and fall of your chest. His eyes burnt into them, it was hard to focus.
"Their an intern Zack, we just have some questions and I'll be back tomorrow morning to pick up the file." Sweets was uncomfortable, Y/N handed him the sheets of paper so he could have a little control in the quickly unfolding scene. Lance gave you a small smile in return.
As he laid out each paper, you explained the case like you were on stand at trial. Dr. Addy never looked at the papers being placed on the table, opting to openly stare at Y/N. Wanting to keep their ground, they met his stare only glancing down every few moments to see which paper was next. It was a one sided conversation, and when you were finished he finally looked down at the images systematically placed in front of him.
"Can you work with that, Dr. Addy?" Y/N said, Zack's eyes widened at the professional connotation.
"Yes." Sweets stood up, "Great! Then were done here, Y/N?"
"I guess so." They stood up and ran their hands across the fabric of their top, smoothing out the imposed wrinkles from sitting down. Taking notice of Dr. Addy's brown eyes that followed the movement of their hands.
Zack stood up as well, stretching the chain on his cuffs to its full extent. He was tall. Taller than they thought, probably around 5'11 or 12. Y/N's eyes followed him up to the looming position he had over them. "I'll be seeing you both tomorrow then." His eyes met theirs, the smile paired with his relaxed eyes was unsettling. Involuntarily, Y/N shivered looking away at Lance. Breaking their stance in the unwavering staring contest he just wouldn't let go. Zack turned to Sweets, but never looked at him.
"No, just me Zack." He grabbed the folder that held the remainder of the case from your limp grasp, and tossed it on the table. The force made methodically laid out papers clash together. It startled Zack, his chains clamored together cutting through the silence. Lance grabbed your shoulder and pushed you to the door, swiping his card.
"Tomorrow then." Zack said.
Peeking out from behind Sweets, Y/N looked at Zack. The sides of his lips were turned, like he knew something they didn't. It was unsettling and you wanted to delve into his psyche and swim in his thoughts.
"Why won't this damn card work?"
