I headcanon that Yuri is the opposite of a Vegetarian, he eats meat like predator plant, he would rather eat an entire farm full of animals than ever eat any poor and innocent plant.

Shun Kurosaki just dreamt of everything that happened in Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-v and woke up on a beautiful sunday morning, practicing his dueling together with his best friend, Yuto, and his sister, Ruri, in the nearby park of Heartlands.
That's the only true ending from Arc-v and nobody's going to change my mind.

WHUMPTOBER 2023, DAY 5: “You better pray I don't get up this time around.” Debris | Pinned Down | “It's broken.”
Welcome to my annual Peregrineship fic, because every year is the same: I write them, I swear I'll write them more this year pinky promise, and then I just don't. That's my shtick. (Actually, Fly, it's your second ShuSere fic this year.) For real? Well, that's cool. Hasn't happened since 2019, I'm pretty sure! Yeehaw.
I honestly stared at the lyric, went "wow that sounds like Shun Kurosaki", and went from there. I'm not even in any shade of YGO mood atm, and I'm sure you can tell because I was very uninspired and it's short compared to what it could've been. Oh well! That's the trials and tribulations of a month-long challenge for you.
I did also do "It's broken" while I was it because, c'mon… It's Kurosaki. It's even odd I didn't break a rib like I usually do when it's him. See? I'm generous! I'm not a one-trick pony when I want to!
Speaking of always doing the same thing, just better each year. I didn't feel like writing canon divergent A5 crap again, so this time, I busted out an AU! Specifically, a Fire Emblem Engage AU, because it's light on storytelling but would allow me to easily have a character of obvious Japanese origins (thanks, Kagetsu!). So, in this one, I made Serena a wolf knight and Shun a wyvern knight because it made sense and also they're both classes I love playing in the game (thanks, Kagetsu! again).
I've also added a bunch of accents because this game bathes in stupid Baguettese-ish lore and I'm taking full advantage of it.
-------------------
Tooth and Nail
Summary: The battle rages on, someone falls from a wyvern, and it becomes another knight's problem.
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V // Fire Emblem Engage AU
Word Count: 1.3K words
AO3 version available here.
------------------
Amidst the smoke and debris of the battle, there runs a human-sized wolf. It sneaks through the enemy hordes, a dagger taking down those who get too close in swift moves, leaving only pawprints and the ashy blood of the long-gone Corrupted behind it.
The wolf isn’t running alone, far from it. Riding it is a knight whose eyes are fixated on the sky, a dagger always in her right hand and the left on the reins of her beast. Her armour, as slim as it is, is spotted with dirt and ash, rusts and browns mixing in with the blacks and greys until the original silver can barely be spotted by the naked eye.
The enemy troops are finally dwindling after hours of sending the dead back to their graves. Good thing, because the army of the Divine Dragon is starting to get tired. She has seen so many of her allies injured and teetering, the healers tired on the sidelines and barely hanging on themselves, and so many chipped-off weapons. The Emblems help, but only up to a certain point; and they need to avoid that stage of fatigue.
She herself has just disengaged from Ephraim, which considering they’re both so silent, only changes the background noise ever so slightly. It helps focusing, she supposes, especially since she’s been sent as reinforcement.
Then a body falls from the sky and, without even a wink of hesitation, the wolf knight speeds ahead.
For a long moment, she can only hear her heartbeats inside her brain. No new scream reaches her ears, her hands move on their own to eliminate enemies and protect both her mount and herself. She doesn’t have time for any of the Corrupted, no matter their rank in the hierarchy of power unofficially established among them.
She only stops when she reaches an armoured wyvern that’s landed near the body. It’s a bit of relief to see her companion has managed to land on his legs, sparing so many organs and dangerous bones in his fall; but the damage is clear, and despite the already pitter-pattering of the Corrupted corpse in front of them all, there is little reassurance to be found amidst the poison.
She dismounts in a flash, but before she can rush, she watches her comrade rises to his feet – or at least attempts to.
Somehow still able to move his feet in a coherent manner, he pierces the chest of his enemy on shaky legs and with trembling arms, gritting his teeth and prying his eyes open, before falling back down. The Corrupted fades away from existence at last.
“You better pray that I don’t get up this time around,” he spits out with a glare of fire risen at the sky, his hand grippling onto his spare spear with such strength that his knuckles have turned white.
She decides enough and enough and finally runs to him, her beast in tow, her ears careful to the tracks of foes but her eyes now glued to her companion, her friend, perhaps something more whose nature she now cannot ponder on.
Unfortunately, the wyvern doesn’t see it that way – and so she has to stop in front of her feet, recognizing the battle scars and knowing gaze of a tired but fiercely protective beast of scale and claw, the strongest in their army, whose armour is nowhere near as solid as her own skin. This isn’t the sort of barrier you can go through unscathed, but here, no fight has to be fought.
“Étranger, it’s me, Séréna,” the puny human says. “You recognize me, do you?”
The wyvern leans towards her, stares at her for a moment, and leans back.
“Thank you.” She turns to her beloved mount. “Luna, please stay here with Étranger. I’m going to check up on Shun.”
The wolf nods her head up and down before she rolls into a ball by the wyvern’s paws, letting her cavalier finally finish running to her companion.
It’s about time she does so: her fellow knight is biting his lip in what must be terrible pain, eyes shut close with tears prickling at their corners, so she kneels to his level. Even putting her hands on his shoulders doesn’t cause a reaction, so she has to resort to words – neither of their forte.
“Hey, can you hear me?”
That gets him to open his eyes again, his gaze still sharp as a blade in spite of it all.
“Séréna…? ’s you…?”
His voice is raspy yet remains understandable.
“Yes, it’s me. Are you injured?”
“I guess,” he hardly replies. “Annoyin’ shit, but nothin’ deadly.”
“Let me check.”
He takes a long, good look at her; then sighs and, slowly, switches position as to have his legs available to her.
“Make it quick, the battle’s not over yet.”
“For you, it probably is.” He prepares a witty response; she doesn’t let him be. “Don’t move until I tell you to.”
Shun blows hot air out of his nose but chooses to remain silent.
Of course she’s never been a healer, has never been good at diagnosing any sort of problems, let alone find a solution for your physical hurt. All she knows is from experience, experience that’s just enough to know what’s wrong in some broad stroke. She doubts anyone in the Divine Army trusts her with precise diagnosis; but when someone needs help, or getting to someone else who can provide it, now it becomes her mission. That’s what she’s learned by fighting by the side of the Divine Army.
Anyway, Shun’s legs are hurting, that much is clear. He can’t use them properly anymore, not without tumbling like a newborn foal or screaming with every other part of his body. When she tries touching them, just to evaluate how bad it gets, his face distorts and he loudly curses in a language she doesn’t speak. One of them is bent in such a way that she can only describe it as a capital letter. If she wasn’t used to it, perhaps she’d have been choked shocked – but she’s used to blood, ash, and injuries.
“It’s broken,” she says as bluntly as possible, so it can register through his thick skull. “In fact, they’re most likely both broken. No doubt about your left one, at least, that thing’s bent.”
“Goddammit,” he curses under his breath.
“I can’t do anything about it on my own,” she admits, shame washing over her like pelting rain. “I need to bring you to a healer as soon as possible.”
“Sucks ass,” he swears again.
Séréna gets back to her foot and gives him her hand.
“Come on. We’re riding my wolf to Ruri, or whoever else’s the nearest cleric.”
He doesn’t want to agree, she can plainly see it.
“Étranger can still carry me.”
The wyvern in question loudly blows from her nostrils.
“How do you plan on manoeuvring a wyvern without being able to use your legs?”
He swears under his breath again but grabs her hand anyway and pushes himself up. She barely has the time to catch him before he falls over, pain all over his face. In the end, she decides she may as well carry him like her bride; it’ll be both easier and shorter.
For all of his bravado, once in her arms, he melts a little, letting his eyes close back down. Even his breathing seems to even out, much to her incomprehension, and it’s only now that she lets herself have her heart sunk by how vulnerable he is. It’s like it shouldn’t even happen, but now that she does know how bad he must be feeling, her strive to protect him has increased tenfold. His life is in her hands and it’s a blood-soaked honour.
As carefully as one can, she sets him on Luna’s back, then climbs on top of the mount in front of him.
“Hold my waist,” she tells him. “I’ll be careful, but it’ll hurt anyway.”
“Whatever it takes,” he replies as he spits out. “Let’s… not make this drag on.”
“Agreed. Luna, onwards.”
The wolf turns around and, swiftly, takes off back to their army’s core.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Story Poll Pt. 3
LiHello, everyone, it’s me again! If you saw my last post, you know that I won’t be posting in June, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t share some of my ideas for the Yu-Gi-Oh! runthrough I’ve been talking about!
I know I said I was looking at modifiers for the standard game, but I’ve become more open to changing it a little more. I know, I’m fickle. Here’s what I’ve been thinking:
Dungeon Monsters-
I had this idea a while ago but it all seemed overwhelming, so I shelved it. I’ve been working on it some more and I think it could work well. Basically, it would be the standard game, but instead of monsters just attacking and destroying each other, they have real-time battles in a holographic arena. Duelists direct them as they fight and use their monsters strategically.
I feel like this could be a good balance between what I want to do and what I feel like I can do. It would be a good way to spice up the game without overcomplicating it too much, and let monsters be more than just numbers. This way, a field full of weak monsters could fight off one really strong monster, which I really like the idea of.
Some things would be different if I did this. Instead of the difference between both monsters’ ATK, damage would only be inflicted when a monster is destroyed, and is equal to the monsters’ Level x 100. Rank and Link Rating would be similar but different at the same time, but those are a long way away. There wouldn’t be attack mode and defense mode, and ATK and DEF would be more about how much damage monsters can do and withstand than a hard numerical value.
Duel Robos-
This is a pretty drastic change. Basically the above, but monsters are actual miniature fighting robots instead of just holograms. Think Custom Robo or Little Battlers Experience. Duelists would be able to customize their monsters and give them different parts, equipment, and weapons that can give them effects, increase their ATK/DEF, or make them more effective in battle in other ways.
I could either do this with standard dueling or more like Custom Robo and Little Battlers Experience, where it’s a one-on-one fight. Either way, I feel like it’ll be really complicated and I might not be able to handle it. I really hope I can and I want to do this, just because I’m really excited about it and it has so much potential, but I also know it could get messy fast. I’ll probably write a test duel for this, and if I like it, I might post it on AO3 for more people to see and weigh in on. I’m pretty much just talking to myself here, after all.
Duels would be pretty different if I did this. Most of the rules would be the same as Dungeon Monsters above, but now any monster could be given an effect even if they were a Normal Monster, or they could get extra claws, weapons, or armor. Thinking of all the different mods they could have makes my head hurt a little, to be honest, but I’m also really excited about it.
Real-Time Duel Fights-
This one came to me as an afterthought. Basically, either of the above, but without a simulated environment. Monsters would sit on the field like the normal game but go into real-time back-and-forth fights when their duelists declare an attack, and return when they’re done. Other monsters summoned afterwards could join in and continue the fight if the first monster to attack gets destroyed. I feel like this might be “it” just because it feels like a really good balance between the standard game and the complicated stuff I want to do. Especially with Duel Robos and maybe the Attribute Advantage and Environment Spaces ideas below, this could be what I finally land on. Let me know your thoughts.
I also had a couple of things for the normal game:
Attribute Advantage-
Basically, some monsters would gain ATK when attacking certain Attributes of other monsters, and gain DEF when being attacked by them. If I were doing the standard game, this wouldn’t have much use, but I could also apply it to Dungeon Monsters and Duel Robos above, which would be better, I feel like. I may add more Attributes, such as the ones from the old Capsule Monsters Colosseum video game, if this is the case.
Skills-
I only recently became aware of this, but adding the Skills from Link Vrains and the Speed Duel cards that Yami and other characters have. I like this and might do it regardless of anything else.
Two Rows-
I went over this in the last post, but two rows of monsters instead of one, sort of like the Seal of Orichalcos’ effect in the anime. I’m still working out exactly how it would work, but since there are already Extra Monster Zones, I feel like it’s not too much of a stretch.
Damage on Destruction-
Pretty much just what I was talking about in the Dungeon Monsters idea. Instead of regular damage, duelists take damage if their monsters are destroyed even if they were in Defense Position, equal to the destroyed monster’s level x 100. Piercing damage would function the same way and apply to Attack Position as well.
Environment Spaces-
I went over this, too. Pretty much the field power boost from Season 1, where certain Types of monsters gain ATK/DEF when on certain spaces. They wouldn’t be locked into the real-world environments, though, instead they would be decided by fields that duelists choose before the start. I feel like this would work better with the Two Rows idea than not, but I’ll see how it goes.
And that’s it. Feel free to chime in with anything you can think of. Really, all I want is a way for monsters, especially low-level ones, to be more prominent. Especially in the later seasons, a lot of them end up becoming fodder, and I want to change that. The Dungeon Monsters and Duel Robos are good for this, and so is the Real-Time Duel Fights, but if you have a better suggestion that’s not as complicated, I would welcome it.

I like to think Yuri is an avid fan of plants...as in predator plans, he has a whole greenhouse full of plants that eat from flies to small animals and he always brings them something to eat. He also a walking encyclopedia of carnivorous plants, it's simultaneously worrying as it is interesting.

Some randomly picked Yus.
Using a roulette to pick one is very fun actually, even though Sevens is totally cheating. But that's fine, I could draw Yujin all day~

Cards entrusted. Part 1:
Darkness. Yuya woke up to see clouds of darkness surrounding him, spreading out in every direction. “Huh. This place is new” he said to no one in particular.
“My apologies”. Yuya was startled by a voice suddenly appearing from behind him he turned around, and saw-
“Zarc. Nice if you to finally drop by!” Yuya was honestly still a little terrified of his original form, but he tried his best to hide it. After all, the poor duelist had already suffered more than enough. Yuya didn’t need to add to that.
“Zarc. Hearing that name, it brings me such pain. The name of a monster. It’s been years since I heard my real name. The only one left who knew it was professor Akaba, and to him… to him, and so many others, and even to myself, I’ll never be anything more than the monster I became”.
“Well… I don’t think you’re just a monster, Zachary.”
Zarc- no Zachary- but did he even deserve such a name, with the suffering he had caused? Did he deserve to be treated as anything other than a terrible monster? He was shocked, how could this child, this poor child, who he caused such torment, how could there still be kindness in his heart for a monster such as he? Finally, Zarc spoke. “Thank you, Yuya. Though I doubt I deserve it, your act of simple kindness means more to me than you’ll ever know.”
“So, what’s going on here? I’m guessing you didn’t show up without reason. You’ve been a hard duelist to track down, Y’know.”
“Yes. That is… by design. It would be utter foolishness to think I would be welcome in your conscious mind, with others to whom I brought such pain. No, a lifetime of oblivion is a fitting punishment for my crimes. However… I still wish to help you. You are a remarkable duelist. You have the potential to be the great dueltainer I never was. But first, I must be sure you can never fall as I did. I would like to show you something.”
“A memory.”
“Yes. I would deign to reveal unto you the story of my life, so that you may never make the same mistakes I did. Please. Observe.”
Zachary stood in the hall of an orphanage. Yuya had seen pieces of this memory before, but with no one to guide him, he had never been able to truly understand what was happening. Now he saw everything, exactly as Zachary had.
“Now! By normal summoning a performapal, I can summon performapal helpeincess from my hand. Next, I use hip hippo’s effect! It lets me tribute summon a level seven or higher monster in addition to my normal summon. Now rise! Odd-eyes dragon!”
“He’s certainly full of energy. What do you think, love?”
Zachary hadn’t known it at the time, but looking back through his eyes, Yuya knew who these people were. They were Zachary’s fathers. This was the day they met.
Several months later, Zachary was dueling against his papa. He controlled performapal salutiger and helprincess, while his papa controlled an xyz monster dressed in the robes of a samurai, with flowing black hair wielding a single-edged sword. “Now! I overlay my two monsters to call upon the most dangerous of dragons! Rise up! Dark rebellion xyz dragon!”
Years later. Zachary was signing up for his first unofficial tournament, at one of the first arenas to incorporate solid vision technology. The man at the counter spoke to him. “This tournament is fully anonymous, so we won’t be using names. Just write down your first initial and the first three letters of your last name, and we’ll be able to find you when your duel starts”. Zachary complied, writing the required information on the given form: Z-Arc.
Zachary’s first championship match. He had clear wing and starving venom on the field. He drew. “I activate monster reborn, to bring dark rebellion xyz dragon back from the brink of oblivion! But it won’t be staying around for long- I tribute it, along with its brethren, to bring forth a revolutionary new monster! Shining silver dragon of dichromatic eyes! Come forth, and bring with you my victory!”
Yuya spoke for the first time throughout this journey. “That monster-“
“Yes”. A voice from behind him again. “That was the true form of our most powerful monster, before I corrupted it with my own pain. This was the potential I squandered. I put my everything into pleasing the crowd, to the extent that I neglected my own joy. But when the pendulum swings one way, it must eventually swings the other. I pushed myself so far, I had nothing left to do but fall, fall into pain and loathing and anger and selfishness. Do not repeat my mistakes, Yuya. Please. Duel for others, yes, but never forget to duel for yourself.”
Yuya woke up, in his real bed this time, at home in the pendulum dimension. He wondered. He got up, and snuck carefully towards his nightstand so as not to disturb the dog sleeping at the foot of his bed. He unlocked the topmost drawer, and looked inside. “What in the world are you doing in that drawer, Yuya?” Came the voice of Yuri from inside his head. So the others were awake.
“Just checking something. You don’t need to worry. None of us do, I think”. He pulled from the drawer it’s sole occupant, a single card. As he expected, it had changed.
“Huh,” the voice of Yuto echoed in his head. “Odd-eyes Revolution Dragon”.
“That’s certainly different from when we locked it in there.” Yugo. So they were all here.
“It certainly is” said Yuri.
“But in a good way” came Yuto’s voice.
“Yeah,” Yuya agreed, “definitely good.” A pause. “I promise, Zachary. I’ll make you proud”
