Ted finally had a weekend off. Finally.

The season had been a brutal rollercoaster of ups and downs but the team was on a bye-week (or what you and Ted would call a bye-week in the States). So you had something planned.

"Just get in the car, Theodore," you instructed with a wink. He quirked a smile and agreed.

"I don't know where you're takin' me, honey, but I'm on board. I love an adventure. It's what brought me here, after all," he answers. sliding into the passenger seat.

You follow the roads a little out of town, away from the hub-bub of London, and into a quiet village on the outskirts.

As you pull up to an ivy-covered brick building with stained glass windows -- an old church -- he's even more curious. But he sees the sign.

"What are we..."

You grab his hand and lead him into the front door.

"Hi, welcome to Sanctuary Spa, can I help you?" a nice woman in a white jacket asks.

"Yes, reservation for two under Lasso," you reply.

"Ah yes, here we are! We'll take you to the couple's room to get started..."

Ted wants to be pensive about this -- he's never done a spa before. But he follows his adage: Be curious, not judgmental.

You're both instructed to undress down to your underwear and to replace your clothes with a fuzzy robe. Two easy chairs sit by a wall, with a glass-enclosed fireplace on, keeping a warm glow in the room.

As you disrobe, Ted watches you, smiling. Once you're both in your robe, he pulls you in by your hands to hold you.

"I don't know what adventure you're takin' me on today, sweetpea. But thank you," he murmurs into your hair, kissing the side of your head.

You both take an easy chair, affixed with a glass of champagne each, and two massage therapists come in to start on your feet.

"Ohhhhuugghhhh," Ted sighs, tilting his head back and sighing with a smile on his lips.

"How's that feel, baby?" you ask gently, and he turns his head to look at you.

"Ugghhhhh... amazing..." he murmurs, making you giggle as you take a sip of champagne.

Once your feet are done, you're instructed to the tables. You gave Ted a male masseuse -- you know he wouldn't be comfortable with another woman touching him that way, similar to how you feel. Jack and Marissa, your therapists, are lovely and sweet and kind.

Ted sighs and groans, feeling the weight of his life lifting with each pass of Jack's hands. The soft music, low lighting, and sweet scent of the lotion puts you both in bliss. Ted reaches from his table to yours to grab your hand, stretched between the small gap.

Jack and Marissa work around your bodies, up your backs and necks, down your spine, to your sides, even your thighs. Teddy's thighs are one of your favorite features and you wish you could watch what Jack is doing so you can replicate it at home when Ted's had a rough day. By the sounds of his groan, it's hitting all the right marks.

Once your massage is done, you're led down a long corridor to a room with a mud bath.

"What... is this?" Ted asks, knowing the answer but now even more curious. Curious, not judgmental.

"This is a mud bath, Mr. Lasso. The healing properties of the mixture are good for soothing your muscles and healing your skin," Marissa says. "This room is all yours, so feel free to disrobe and climb in when you're ready. We'll come back in an hour."

You wiggle your eyebrows at Ted and take your clothes off, climbing into the bath.

"Ooooh! Boy is that a sensation," you say, laughing, sitting down on the bench underneath the mud. There's a plate of cucumbers for your eyes, bottles of water to help you post-massage, low music, and more low lighting.

Ted looks around before he removes his boxer briefs, shrugging and tossing them in the pile of clothes you started before hopping in.

"Woowee! That is funny ain't it?" he says with a laugh, sitting next to you. You lean your head back against a spa pillow and he does the same. You feel him search for your hand under the mud. He holds it gently, lacing his fingers with yours.

"Thank you," Ted mutters. You smile.

"Thank you for taking care of me, for helping me relax. I swear you're more tuned into my needs than I am sometimes," he jokes.

You smile again.

"That's my job as your partner, babe. I've got a spiny sense for you when it comes to stress, and you've been workin' way too hard not to take a moment to rest and heal."

He squeezes your hand.

"Well, hell. Might as well try these, right? When in Rome!" he exclaims, turning around to grab some cucumbers and place them on his eyes. But he grabs two more and places them on your closed lids first.

You smile when you feel the cool vegetable (fruit?) placed on your eyes. He returns to holding your hand under the mud.

"I gotta say, sweetheart, this was exactly what the doctor ordered," Ted adds. "Thank you. Thank you for being you."

You smile and take a breath, happy to know he's enjoying himself.

"You're welcome, love. I love you so much."

Ted smiles.

"I love you, too, sweetpea."

OK this was so fun to write, I can't explain. Also I have a spa in my city that does couple's rooms so I had to go investigate what that includes. The mud bath was an add-in. The idea of Ted finding your hand under the mud to hold it was just too sweet not to write in there. Thanks for the prompt, friend!

When Peter first learnt who you were, he wanted to give up on everything. He was confident he could stop loving you in a minute after learning you were making a deal with the enemies. Or, more exactly, that you were the enemy.

But it was as easy to let go the woman you loved more than anything.

Maybe he should have known from the beginning that something wasn’t right. That your meeting was not the coincidence he thought it was, that it was a calculating encounter you had planned all along to get with him. But the adage was right, love made you blind. And Peter fell for your eyes so quickly that he couldn’t see all the warnings.

Maybe he shouldn’t trust you right now. When you were saying that it was all over and that you won’t try to hurt him anymore.

After a few attacks, Peter noticed something was wrong. It was almost like he became an open book for his enemies and that they could tell where he would be, even when he wasn’t Spiderman. And they seemed to know where to hit to hurt him. It wasn’t until the day you broke down in his arms that Peter understood that you were the innocent angel, he thought you were.

“I’m so sorry Peter. I thought I could do this. I had no idea I would fall for you like this. Please, I don’t want to lose you.” You cried. Peter wasn’t mad. He couldn’t when he saw you like that. He just wanted to comfort you and make you feel better.

That was what he did. He even helped you plan your escape to stop working with the enemies and be free from them. You wouldn’t have to worry anymore. You wouldn’t have to betray your lover no more.

You died on a Monday morning, shoot by someone who seemed to know too much about your situation. Peter and you thought it would be an excuse for his enemies to take a step back and wait a little before facing him again. Peter got you a new ID card, a passport, and tickets to Europe. You were a new person, at least for now. You were starting a new life.

One you wanted to start with Peter.

“Follow me Peter. You can fight crimes in Europe too. And we can be together,” you tried to convince him one night after making love to each other. The proposal was tempting. Starting a new life somewhere else, away from his past and his memories. And with you, the woman he couldn’t help but love no matter the awful things you did. 

He wanted to. But should he?

If he talked about it with anyone, they would say he was making a mistake. Who would run away with a woman that try to get him killed? How could he be so sure you wouldn’t try again with a new team? How could he be so sure that you wouldn’t kill him yourself and come back here, living your real life like nothing happened? 

Peter knew you were sincere. He knew you had changed. He knew you loved him purely and sincerely. At least, he had to believe it. Because there was one thing he knew for sure: he wouldn’t be able to go on without you. Without your smile and your laugh illuminated his life. Without your affection making him feel loved. You became the reason he had the strength to live every day after all he went through. He had to believe there was a light at the end of the tunnel. 

So, there he was, waiting for you on this Wednesday morning. All your stuff was packed. All your life in a few suitcases ready to fly over the ocean. “Are you sure you won’t regret it?” You asked Peter. Leaving his life was easy, assuming that choice once in Europe would be harder. You didn’t want him to suddenly hate you after a few weeks and make the cohabitation impossible. Peter could come back here if he wanted to. You couldn’t.

“I would follow you all the way, no matter how far. Even to the other side of the world. Even all the way to your graveyard.” He said, taking your hand between his fingers. “I can’t even imagine a life without you, so live it without be impossible.” 

All Peter had to know now, was to hope he wasn’t making a mistake.

Why aren’t Americans saving enough for retirement? Economics, of course, plays a factor; the twenty-first century has seen a rise in income inequality and sharp spikes in the cost of living throughout many of the nation’s major cities.

But in 2009, scientists at UCLA completed a study [PDF] that determined there may also be a neurological basis for this growing trend. Led by psychologist Hal Herschfield, the research group scanned the brains of study participants while asking them questions about (1) their Current Self, (2) their Future Self, (3) a Current Other, and (4) a Future Other.

The team found that the participants’ brain activity when answering questions about their Future Self was more consistent with their brain activity while considering a Current Other rather than their Current Self.

“Put in practical terms,” explains Becky Kane, editor at Doist, “when thinking of yourself in a month or a year or a decade, your brain registers that person in ways similar to how it would register Taylor Swift or the mailman or the lady driving the car in the next lane over.”

In short: It’s not you. It’s your brain.

Chances are you have experienced the disastrous consequences of this bad neurological deal. Cramming for a test. Pulling an all-nighter for a paper. Hastily, stressfully preparing for a project. Not to mention that when we procrastinate, we often feel stressed while we aren’t doing the work we’re supposed to be doing.

Anyway you cut it, procrastination is a killer. It hampers our ability to achieve our goals, heaps stress onto our Future Self, and it usually doesn’t provide the instant gratification to our Present Self that it seems to guarantee.

So, how do you battle this beast if it’s part of your neurological wiring?

1. Recognize That Your Future Self and Present Self Are the Same Person

Easier said than done, I know.

This seems especially difficult when you’re young. Many young people hold onto an unconscious conviction that they will be smarter, more efficient, and better prepared tomorrow than they are today. Tomorrow’s self, we think, is better, stronger, faster.

Except it often isn’t. It’s just as likely that tomorrow’s self will be more tired, more stressed, and equally or more distracted.

Mending the gap between your Present and Future Self can be as simple as repeating the mantra, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”

But perhaps a more effective strategy is to visualize and to try to inhabit that Future Self.

In recent years, Hal Herschfield and Daniel Goldstein have used software that allows participants to visualize themselves at 60, 70, and 80 years old. They have found that seeing this Future Self helps people commit to investing more into their future retirement.

On a smaller scale—for a final project, SAT preparation, or college applications, where the goal is much closer at hand—try to very deliberately imagine your day tomorrow or next week, whenever you imagine your Future Self will be so incredibly productive. Write down the details.

What gets in the way of that Future Self? Why is this Future Self free from distractions that the Present Self struggles with? Are there reasons other than a vague conviction that you can do better later?

If not, get to work. You’ll thank your Past Self later.

2. Treat Your Future Self Like Someone You Love

This brings me to my second point, a twist on the old adage, “Treat yourself like someone you love.”

This approach entails embracing rather than resisting your neurological makeup.

Think, OK, fine: I am bound to imagine my Future Self as a whole other person. Your job is to bring that other in close.

Imagine the option before you is this: either you can do the work you need to do now or you can leave it for someone you care for deeply, someone you feel the need to protect—a sibling, a grandparent, a best friend.

Turn your Future Self into an actual other person, but one that you care for deeply. You might then find the motivation to save that loved one from your present burden.

3. Focus...and Embrace Distraction When It Comes

Here’s a trick I practiced in graduate school.

If you’re like most ambitious teenagers, you have a lot going on. Sometimes, the sheer number of tasks can leave you feeling drained before you even begin.

It’s always best to focus on one task at a time. Clear off your desk of all distractions but that one, most pressing thing. This is a key technique advocated by Randy Pausch in this popular lecture on time management.

Close out all those excess tabs on your browser and get to the one or two windows you need. Split your screen in half to a word processor and one browser window. These are practical tactics that work.

But if you find your mind drifting, you might just want to let it drift…but take control of the wheel.

It’s natural to get distracted, but instead of diving into social media, pick up another project. Work on that for the ten or two-hundred minutes (no judgment) you might otherwise waste online.

This way, you can feed that little dopamine addict in your skull while chipping away at the tasks at hand.

4. Get Real (Visual) About Your Time

It’s not infinite, even though it might sometimes feel that way. Teenagers often hear, “you have plenty of time!” Which is true until you have none. Time is finite and unforgiving.

One way to visualize this scarcity of time is to take a look at this chart by Tim Urban, founder of waitbutwhy.com. Urban maps out a 90-year life in weeks. If you’re facing a semi-long-term goal, like acing the SAT, you can take a slice of this chart to envision just how little time you have. (Credit to Becky Kane for linking to this.)

This chart is especially useful because it reduces time into homogenous blocks. We often imagine our future time will be filled with epiphanies struck by the wand of genius. But this big, monotonous breakdown of our weeks reminds us that that’s often not the case.

Next week is a hollow little block, just like this week. Might as well get to it now.

5. Out of Control? Find a Commitment Device

In a 2014 Elite blog post, Ethan Sawyer described how he learned to overcome procrastination (mostly):

“One day I read something that really hit me: The next time you think, ‘I’ll do it later,’ do it now instead. Repeat this 20 times. I don’t remember where I read it, but I do remember feeling tired of not getting things done. So I tried it. And it actually worked.”

This is a simple version of what Daniel Goldstein calls a “commitment device.” As a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, Goldstein forced himself to write five pages per day. If he didn’t, he forced himself to leave $5 on the subway in an envelope.

These are dangerous—your Present Self might manage to find an excuse as to why you can cheat just this once, or twice, or thrice, or…

But if you find your discipline waning and that you need an external control, a commitment device is worth a shot.

Keep in mind that we are always developing habits. Procrastinate now and you will get good (and used to) procrastinating in the future.

Our teenage years are a time to develop habits for adult life. If you don’t address your bad procrastination habits now, you are essentially, well, procrastinating. Don’t sabotage your Future Self, who will find the habit harder to kick then than it will be for your Present Self today.

i haven't managed to write anything substantial in a long while, but here. This thought amused me today.

“You're not sleeping.” Jess puffs her way through the apartment with a paper grocery bag in her arms. It's full to the brim, overflowing and obscuring her vision so how she already knows he's not sleeping before she even really sees him is a marvel clear only to her. He's sitting on the couch with his nose in a book while Jack leans against him with his own book. One is something that looks dusty and old, probably something by Jane Austin, sappy and gooey, a comfort novel for a wounded soul. The other had a big bright yellow bird and a bright blue monster, Sesame Street, no words only pictures.

“I don't need a nap...” Jack replies with a twinkle in his eye. A ghost of a smile slips over Hotch's drawn features at the exasperated sound Jess makes from the kitchen.

“I think she meant me,” he whispers to Jack and the little boy nods and grins.

“You need a nap?”

“Yes, Jack, your daddy needs a nap...” She's not messing around. He has until she puts away all of the groceries to close his book and make his way to the bedroom before she starts in with a little more force. He'd promised he was sleeping better these days and she can tell he's been lying. But she's here now, has the whole afternoon free, and she won't take no for an answer. Before she pulls out the big guns. She'll catch her fly with vinegar or honey, the old adage doesn't apply to her.

“Daddy...” Jack says in his chirpy little voice, closing his book and turning his eyes up at his father. “Aunt Jessica is staring at you.”

“I know,” he murmurs without even moving his lips, still staring at his book. He's not reading it anymore though; the words are blurring on the page. He's about to laugh, and it would be the first laugh in a very long time he thinks. He's not sure he remembers how even though it's sitting there waiting, bubbling right there in his chest.

“Aaron,” Jess says, suddenly closer to him than he'd realized she was. Where the hell did she come from? He didn't even hear her approach. “Bed. Now.”

His eyes shift and turn up at her, lock with hers briefly. In one swift movement she grabs his book and slams it shut in a puff of moldy old book dust. Goodnight, Jane Austin. “Hey,” he protests, but she only stares him down. Doesn't even blink. “You're so bossy.”

“Go.” She doesn't flinch, doesn't budge.

He wonders, as he pads down the hallway in his socks toward his bedroom, what his team would think. What would Spencer say if he saw the ease with which this tiny blonde lady bossed him around? What ideas would Emily get about how to use it to her advantage? What jokes would Derek and Dave make? Would Penelope make her cookies to bribe her into keeping it up? (He suspects JJ wouldn't be surprised in the least.)

He falls into his bed and is asleep almost instantly, ready for the nightmares that come with thoughts like that.

Blind Pioneer – Morris Frank

Buddy was the first seeing-eye dog.

Morris Frank was the first person to be partnered with a seeing eye dog. He became a passionate activist whose devotion to his canine companion Buddy led to the widespread acceptance of guide dogs throughout America and the world.

Born to a prominent Jewish family in Nashville, Tennessee in 1908, Morris’ life story demonstrates the adage “truth is stranger than fiction.”

As a child, he was the primary helper for his mother, Jessie Hirsch Frank, who was blind. Jessie had lost an eye in two separate accidents. Incredibly, Morris would also lose an eye in two separate accidents.

When he was six, he lost an eye in a horseback riding incident, and when he was sixteen, he lost the other eye while boxing with a friend.

When Morris was 19, his father read him an article by Dorothy Eustis, an American dog trainer, about blinded World War I veterans in Germany who were starting to work with guide dogs. This was the turning point in Morris’ life.

He immediately wrote a letter to Eustis: “Is what you say really true? If so, I want one of those dogs! And I am not alone. Thousands of blind like me abhor being dependent on others. Help me and I will help them. Train me and I will bring back my dog and show people here how a blind man can be absolutely on his own.”

Eustis responded, asking if Morris would come all the way to her dog-training school in Switzerland to work with a dog. He answered, “Mrs. Eustis, to get my independence back, I’d go to hell.”

Morris reached Switzerland in 1928 and was matched with a German Shepherd he named “Buddy.”

They became an efficient team and traveled together to New York, where Morris showed fascinated reporters how he could cross the busiest streets with Buddy’s help.

He sent a telegram to Eustis with only one word: “Success.”

People were amazed at what Morris and Buddy could do. Morris later recalled the time he got a free train ride: “The conductor told me he had watched me come down the platform, get on the train and take my seat, and he said that no blind man in the world could do that.” Morris popped out his artificial eyes to prove that he was indeed blind, and had Buddy lead him to another seat. The conductor was so shocked that he didn’t take Morris’ ticket.

In 1929, at age 21, Morris co-founded, with Dorothy Eustis, the first guide-dog school in the United States. It was called “The Seeing Eye,” from Proverbs 20:12: “The hearing ear and the seeing eye – the Lord hath made them both.”

The school started in Morris’ hometown of Nashville, and later moved to Morristown, New Jersey. For the next thirty years, Morris and “Buddy” traveled throughout the United States and Canada, raising awareness of the benefits of seeing eye dogs, and advocating for equal access laws. The original Buddy died in 1938, and was hailed as a national hero. Morris named every successive dog “Buddy” in his honor.

Morris and Buddy were highly effective in their mission. In 1928, Buddy was not allowed to ride with Frank in the passenger compartments of trains; by 1935 every single railroad company in America had a policy permitting guide dogs to ride with their owners. By 1939 the vast majority of American hotels allowed guide dogs.

Morris credited Buddy with more than just his independence – the dog helped him make friends. He said that previously people did not know how to talk to him. “They did not wish to be rude. They just did not know how to bring me in without referring to my blindness. With Buddy there, it was the easiest and most natural thing in the world for them to say, ‘What a lovely dog you have!’”

Morris and Buddy visited the White House three times, where they were welcomed by presidents Coolidge, Hoover, and Truman. By 1956, every state in the country had laws ensuring that blind people could bring their seeing eye dogs to public spaces.

Morris retired from The Seeing Eye that year, and founded his own insurance agency in Morristown, where he worked for the rest of his life.

For revolutionizing the way blind people live and are treated, and proving that dogs truly are “man’s best friend,” we honor Morris Frank and Buddy as this week’s Thursday Heroes.

This Fate

Darkness.

The ethereal swell of eternity breathes at the same rate as him.  The Sleeper dwells in the depths, eyes closed and mind branching outward.  Twinges of colour burst with the dark waters around him.  Like buds blooming on a tree branch, they follow a pattern.  

-I could love for a thousand years before time caught me in the lie.-

Ping!  A memory of the past, a bloom in the dark.

He recalls writing this in a journal some years ago.  How long now?  Ten years?  A lifetime?  Years blend together when one walks through them asleep.  He rolls in the depths. The dust billowing upwards muddies the water, churning his thoughts.

There is a difference he finds in losing things by choice or by force.  The sound of the explosion echoes in his ears.  The tinkling of glass raining down around him and the eerie silence in the aftermath haunt him even here.  These memories are poignant, digging claws down into his existence to the core of him.  

He breathes and the darkness weeps.

The old adage isn’t wrong.  He didn’t miss the water until someone blew up the well.  Their life had bled through his fingers, while his life clings to his ribs as if the shards of shrapnel and glass stapled it there.  The pain within his chest is far worse than anything done to his outsides.

-As all things do, they end.-

The Sleeper’s face crunches up with distaste.  The memories are bitter on his tongue amongst the swirl of salt and copper.  His hands clench into fists and he’s forced to swallow how deep his attachment to both lost is.

Rain.  A heart twice given. Once lost to the folly of his spouse’s own ambitions and reforged in a spark of twisted opportunity. Impossible means nothing in the face of his desires. 

Inwa.  A yearning long left to smolder in the shadows.  Excuses piled upon blindness and a lack of action to claim an end to their wandering.  He will drift no more.  

A groan rumbles through the depths.  The waters heave and roll.  The want to lie in the darkness and mull over his losses weighs heavy on him.  Healing ticks time by.  A few hours, a few days, the outer shell of his being mends and resumes function.  He need not lie here and lick his wounds.  Appendages shift in the water, forcing the darkness to abate.

The desire in the core of his being beats in the same rhythm as the pair of hearts he’s lost.  No, not lost.  They know where to look, where to find their lingering spirits.  The aetherflow.  To that end he will go, to the depths beyond the flow if need be.  We forge our own hells, they say, and he will see them freed from theirs before they forget where they belong.  This is not a fate he is willing to accept. 

They are his.

Dark water flows from the figure emerging from the cavern lake.  Far below the surface, the only illumination glows electric blue, a rare form of lichen that coats the walls in lightning crackles.  A black leather boot steps free of the water, the soles thick and solid when one after another foot comes down on the bedrock.  The leather hugs the curve of his calf well up over his knee, giving way to leather pants mid thigh.  The buckles on the boots and at his belt spark silver in the blue light.  A long coat drapes down his back, the skirt of it swaying with his step.  

A gloved hand rises, the silver claws decorating his fingers absorb the illumination in the cavern and streak it through the shorter strands of his hair.  The blue-black locks curl lightly around the base of his ears, against the sides of his neck and nape.  The fire from the explosion had shorn the once near-waist length hair from him and etched scars into more than his flesh.  Scars that need not be.  A sureness possesses his stride, straightens his spine, and hardens his gaze. 

”I choose to walk alone no longer.”

Hi, sorry if I'm being presumptuous, ignore this if I am, but do you have any advice for someone looking to get into a career as an editor?

I want to try getting into it as a career, but generally I'm not sure how to do that and a lot of advice sites I find aren't that clear or helpful.

Hoo boy - I have advice specific to my own circumstances and experiences, but you might not like it.

First: figure out if you want to be salaried or not. I would personally reccommend salaried over freelance. Some people really enjoy the freelance lifestyle, but I am not one of them. The thought of having to do so much research and networking just to land jobs, rather than the security of going to the same job every day? Terrifying!

I can only speak about salaried editorial work - I know nothing of freelancing, sorry! If you're after freelance advice, this is not the post for you.

Second: look in your local area to get a start. Not a big city. (Unless you already live in a big city, of course!)

I went for a relatively 'small' local publishing house (still a big global brand with offices in China, Singapore, US, etc., but technically 'Indie'). The alternative was a London-based firm where competition was intense and you’d be lucky to land a 6-month unpaid internship with no job at the end. Which - lol nope. It’s surprising how many tiny local imprints there are! I found three in my local town alone, which I didn’t know existed until I started looking.

The beauty of this is, once you get a bit of experience with a small firm, you'll be in a much better place to transfer to a larger one, if you want!

Third: be privileged.

When I was 17, the summer before I left for uni, I didn't need to earn money because at that point, my dad was still employed. This meant I could live with my parents and work for six weeks for free.

So I spent my pre-uni summer holiday working unpaid. The company were absolutely lovely to me, and they offered me a job once I graduated, because I'd been working on-and-off for them while at uni, too. But that was a minimum wage job. For me, as a Cambridge graduate, that was a lowball.

I took it because I loved the people there, and frankly, my disabilities, mental and physical, were crippling me in more ways than one. I just could not face job hunting, and no way would I have been able to physically handle working anywhere more intense or fast-paced. At the time, this job was exactly what I needed.

But if you need to earn money to support your family (which I will soon need to do, which is why I'm changing careers!) editing is not a great choice. As the adage goes: Publishing Doesn't Pay. Not for several years, at least.

So: if you are able to work for free for a few weeks, then scrape by on minimum wage for at least a year before you start to work your way up in the company (mostly because everyone else on your level has given up and quit...) then hopefully this advice helps. But that's a pretty big but.

Don't get me wrong - editing is fascinating, it's intense, you meet fucking incredible people and if you have a good team, the office can buzz with energy and run like a machine to which copious spurts of WD-40 have been applied. It's an awesome job! But the biggest gatekeeper preventing entry from hopeful applicants, in my experience, is whether or not you have financial burdens.

Anywho, with those formalities out of the way: Let’s talk business! My CV may be unimpressive to the untrained eye, but I have years of experience bending over backwards to both the hoi polloi and those useless, festering pustules that for some reason people think have power (Administration, the Managerial Class, and Ivory Tower Bootlickers alike). In addition, I’ve currently served 7 years here at the University of Arizona, specifically in our wonderful Library! Library Service has taught me many things, how to deal with vagrants, vagabonds, and all manner of violent individuals, as we are one of the rare institutions that does not provide security! In addition to this, I have learned to operate on a razor-thin budget. As we have regularly received cuts throughout the years, UAL (University of Arizona Libraries) has excelled at cutting to the bone to make sure the vultures get their pound of flesh. Most staff are underpaid and overworked, being classified as Grade 4 Employees (according to University HR and our Job Library) and placed at the very bottom of the pay range. Due to this we are constantly understaffed and have a turnover rate that rivals a fast-food joint! What I’m trying to say is that I can handle a team of hungry and bitter wastrels, which our current President seems to have forgotten the old adage of “Bread & Circuses.” While I know he is loathe to bring all staff to a reasonable $25 and hour Salary, the least he could do with his $40,000 Car Grant is deliver some pizzas to his staff. After all, he has a golf cart that flagrantly ignores our campus rules and his office is next to the Cholera Machine known as Dominoes, right at our wonderful Student Union! Now on to some projects that I plan on implementing to get us that sweet, sweet cash money. First, we replace CatCash. As is, we are losing money on Credit Card and bank transactions. We replace it with the proprietary Crypto Currency “Wildcat Coin.” As we will be directly in control of minting and producing the amount of coin, we can easily replace all of our direct cash flows with extra fees via Etherium (GAS fees in the nomenclature). This will allow us to control both inflation/deflation of Wildcat Coins Price and obfuscate our fees. Generating a roll over “Slush Fund” that can sustain us for decades! Their base pay will be adjusted to our new standard minimum wage of $25 per hour, and they can earn bonuses based on performance.
