Princess Rhaena and Prince Aegon on their wedding day. One person is definitely loving the attention more than the other.
A quick redrawing of a watercolor piece that I wasn't feeling....still not feeling it. On the plus side, I'm getting closer to finding my digital painting technique.

Kinda ironic Rhaenyra gets dubbed "Maegor the Cruel with Tits", when one of his most abominable deeds was supposed to be killing his nephew- Aegon the Uncrowned- on a much smaller dragon, which is exactly what Aemond did to Nyra's child.
Meanwhile Aemond gets a nickname and a statue out of it.

aegon the uncrowned is so stupid if he would have just followed rhaena’s advice and gone to the free cities for a few years, maegor would have imploded on his own, and then he could have had his crown and not died. the men in this series are collectively so stupid.

A Tale of Two Aegons
In some ways they are as different as night is to day...
Aegon, who was born to be the 2nd of his name
Aegon, the 2nd of his name who was born for nothing
Aegon, the usurped
Aegon, the usurper
Aegon, who wanted the throne but was never able to take it
Aegon, who never wanted the throne but was given it
Aegon, who rode a silver dragon
Aegon, who rode a golden dragon
Aegon, who was named heir over his elder sister just for being born male
Aegon, who would have been named heir over his elder sister just for being born male if his father had been any other king, or if his mother had been his father's first Queen, the favored Queen
...yet in other ways, their stories are the same
Aegon, who was named for the conqueror
Aegon, the second child & first surviving son
Aegon, who's terrible uncle hated them for having a better claim to the throne
Aegon, who had 2 little brothers
Aegon, the son of a foolish weak king
Aegon, who was wed to his sister at 15
Aegon, who's sister wife rode Dreamfyre
Aegon, who became a father to twins by 16
Aegon, who didn't give up on his goals
Aegon, who had to die, who's children had to die, to make space for someone better, someone more important

"You are fearless when facing a girl on a horse, I see. The next time I come, I will be on a dragon. Throw dirt on me then, I pray you." -Rhaena Targaryen

"Given the traditions and practices of House Targaryen, a match between his two eldest children must have seemed the obvious course to King Aenys. The affection between Rhaena and Aegon was well-known, and neither raised any objection to the marriage... ...The storm that greeted the king's announcement took them all by surprise, though the warning signs had been plain enough for those with the wit to read them. The Faitn had condoned, or at the very least ignored, the marriage of the Conqueror and his sisters, but it was not willing to do the same for their grandchildren."

I personally like it. I mean, it’s not in Fire and Blood, but honestly it wouldn’t make sense for this prophesy to be in it. How could the maesters know about it or even Mushroom?
One of the many things I have always loved about the Targaryens is how magical they are, compared to the Andals. This prophesy adds to that.
I know that the biggest question is: how could Jaehaerys have found out about it? He was, after all, the youngest of Aenys’ sons and not expected to inherit the throne.
My personal headcanon would be: Aegon told Aenys, who told his children who were destined to be King and Queen, Rhaena and Aegon the Uncrowned. And then Rhaena told Jaehaerys when he took the throne.
And even after all those years had passed, some sort of prophesy is heavily implied to have reached Rhaegar in Asoiaf (which might make it book canon as well):
"Until one day Prince Rhaegar found something in his scrolls that changed him. No one knows what it might have been, only that the boy suddenly appeared early one morning in the yard as the knights were donning their steel. He walked up to Ser Willem Darry, the master-at-arms, and said, 'I will require sword and armor. It seems I must be a warrior.'"
So, what do you guys think? Since it’s GRRM’s idea and not the showrunners’, I am inclined to see the prophesy as canon. And I like the idea of it.
[EDIT]: If you voted “I don’t like it”, could you guys write a comment as to why? I’m curious.

Cursed Targaryen Names
Hello everyone! I think by this point we've all heard the theory that the name Visenya is cursed in ASoIaF, and I recently received this ask here that drew my attention to the fact that the name Aegon doesn't have the greatest track record, either. One realization later, and I arrived at my new theory: All three names from the Conquering trio have been cursed. Maybe by Visenya (I hope by Visenya). So let's go through what happens to all the poor kids that get saddled with these names, shall we?
Visenya
Visenya, who Rhaenyra wanted as a sister when Aemma was pregnant, but who was actually a boy named Baelon. Still, at one point Rhaenyra had declared the baby's name would be Visenya. As we all know, the baby died, and took its mother with it.
Visenya, the stillborn daughter of Rhaenyra. Born with birth defects, with scales on her skin, and with a tail.
Aegon
Aegon the Uncrowned, who was usurped by his uncle Maegor despite being the trueborn and eldest son of the late king, and who was later killed by Maegor at just seventeen.
Aegon, son of Jaehaerys and Alysanne, who died three days after he was born
Aegon, son of Baelon and Alyssa, whose birth killed his mother and who died days before his first birthday, also managing to ruin Viserys and Daemon's childhood
Aegon II, who watched all of his siblings and most of his children die before him in a war they were forced into, who spent his final years disfigured and in agony, and who died in his twenties
Aegon III, who traumatically lost his dragon and thought he'd abandoned his brother to die, whose older half-brothers all died, who watched his mother be eaten alive as a child, and who spent the rest of his life depressed as a result
Aegon IV, who was probably actually insane
Aegon V, who killed not only himself but also his own children and heir in his desperation to uncover the magic of the dragons in the Tragedy at Summerhall
And finally, poor baby Aegon, whose head was bashed in against a wall in front of his mother, Elia
Rhaenys
Rhaenys, daughter of Aemon and Jocelyn, who outlived her two beloved children and was burned alive after being sent on a suicide mission by the same woman she thought killed her son
Rhaenys, the three-year-old daughter of Elia and Rhaegar, who was ripped from beneath her bed and stabbed to death so viciously that Tywin Lannister had to cover her body with a cloak before presenting her to the King.
Also, as a note, there's one instance of one of these three names popping up pre-Conquest: Aegon Targaryen, son of Gaemon and Daenys, who happily married his sister, ruled Dragonstone, and passed it down to his son with no problems. Whose children all survived to adulthood, whose wife did not die in childbirth, and who is not noted to have a particularly gruesome death. This just adds to my theory that this name was not cursed pre-Conquest hehe.

Aegon was born to his parents King Aenys I Targaryen and Queen Alyssa Velaryon; second child and firstborn son. He was the heir to the throne.
Aegon and his young brother, Viserys, were present when Aegon I died on Dragonstone. Their grandsire had been telling them of his adventures and conquests, and then suddenly, he had a stroke. That same night he died peacefully in his sleep.
This put Aegon's father on the throne, however, he did offer to co-rule with Maegor. But his actions, particularly with how many wives he was trying to have, made Aenys exile his brother.
Although Aegon was attractive, charming and wooed many ladies at court, his father was set on the marriage between him and his older sister Rhaena. The incestuous relationship caused much uproar from the Faith of the Seven, which in turn made the common folk angry (as they were very religious during this time)
King Aenys was a gentle man but during the times of this match and marriage, he was firm in his decision, so firm that he went against the Faith of the Seven. When it came time for the royal progress, everything went wrong.
As Aegon did not have a dragon for his own, Aenys told Rhaena she could not bring Dreamfyre as it would make Aegon look weak. This decision led the newly weds on a dangerous course of action where they had to be hid from the crowds as they were attacked. Aegon, who felt utterly and completely angry at the time, had to be held back by guards as he wanted to fight whoever was attacking his wife.
Aegon and Rhaena were actually in the middle of the royal progress and trapped at Crakehall by members of the Faith when their father died. During this time, King Aenys died on Dragonstone and Dowanger Queen Visenya brought Maegor back from exile.
When Maegor usurped the throne, Aegon's family were hostages under the King, including all three of his younger siblings. Prince Viserys was at the Red Keep, as Maegor’s squire, and Prince Jaehaerys and Princess Alysanne were at Dragonstone along with their mother, all of them under guard.
Aegon and Rhaena escaped Crakehall as the Poor Fellows left to march on King's Landing. The pair fled to Casterly Rock where Lord Lyman Lannister protected them by extending guest right. A year later, Rhaena had twins daughters; Aerea and Rhaella, both Aegon and Rhaena's only children.
A while later, when Maegor had left to Oldtown, Aegon and Rhaena went to King's Landing to gather dragons. Rhaena was reunited with Dreamfyre and Aegon claimed Quicksilver.
During this time, Aegon and Rhaena's mother was secretly conversing with the great Houses; Baratheons, Starks, Lannisters and Arryns. However, all stated they would only support Aegon if he was truly crowned. As rumours had started to spread that he was weak like his father.
And so, Aegon denounced Maegor as nothing but a tyrant and a usurper. Finding allies wherever he could, he led an army of fifteen thousand, and atop Quicksilver through the riverlands. However, Aegon was still an inexperienced young commander.
Royalist armies marched toward Aegon from three separate directions, but the young commander didn't want to attack and defeat each one separately. But the armies on the ground would be of no problem as a bigger one soon arrived.
So, during the Battle Beneath the God's Eye, Maegor attacked while atop Balerion. The pair were no match, with Balerion four times the size of Quicksilver and with much more battle IQ. Eventually, Maegor and Balerion killed Aegon and Quicksilver. Aegon wasn't even eighteen when he died.

Princess Rhaena, weak from giving birth to the twins Aerea and Rhaella, bent her knees and begged her husband to flee with her to the narrow sea.
"Please, Aegon my beloved King and husband! I could not bear the pain of whatever fate awaits our daughters! I would do anything! I would die for you, Aegon!"
"Dear sister, you don't understand. The iron throne is rightfully mine. The throne for our daughters' future. If you want to die for me, fight with me against our uncle. We have dragons."
