This aerial theatre piece by Scarabeus was performed at the Archway Towers in North London on 18th and 19th October 2013. I have been meaning to introduce this space with this piece ever since I walked in on it on 19th October 2013. I remember that day exceptionally well and my encounter with this beautiful piece was truly serendipitous. 

The next time anyone asks me, what is art? what is its significance or contribution to our life on this planet. I think to answer simplistically would invite a lot of highbrow criticism. But I think the beauty is in simplicity and this is exactly what I would say - Art enriches our lives, it gives us hope. It makes the most mundane into beautiful and it teaches us to question, contemplate and act. It tells us of the value of our existence and memories. And sometimes it also offers solace. 

Scarabeus is a team effort of Daniela Essart and Soren Nielsen; they have directed and performed numerous site specific aerial and abseiling dances since the late eighties across the world. You can read more about them on their website and hear them talk about what they do here.
