I’m laying in my bedroom, wishing that things turned out differently. I’m staring up at the ceiling and then I just scratch my head. My attention is suddenly caught by the long scars that stretch all over my arm, they’re freshly red and it’s just an awful sight. I don’t think I have to explain exactly what happened but if you still don’t get it, I got a beating. The ticking sound becomes more clear, I look up at the clock, 8:15 AM, I should probably leave for school. I walk out of my bedroom, being as quiet as I possibly can be, I walk into the hallway and I hear the talking from the T.V. My foster parents are up, well I’m still not taking any chances. I walk past them and through the kitchen while grabbing a banana on my way. I stride through the front door, closing it behind me and just so you know, it didn’t make a squeaking sound.

I am cruising through the wonderful New York City, rubbish floats around, flying as if they’re real birds. The tall buildings are pointing upwards and they’re in the sky. People walk past me, wearing scarves that go up to their chins, beanies covering the top of their heads, big puffer jackets covering their torsos, and pants that go down to their ankles. It’s pretty cold as you can tell.

“Diego! Wait up!” says a girl while she’s panting. She runs up to me and is beside me as we are on our way to school. Not this girl again.

I say nothing. And no, I’m not rude, I just simply don’t like engaging in a conversation with this girl. I look at her and I notice the kind look in her sparkling hazel eyes, her mouth is smiling and so are her eyes. She kind of looks like... I shake my head, I don’t want any friends.

“Do you ever talk?” she asks.

Still, more silence. I forgot this girl’s name, I think it was something like, Addison or Allison. Who cares anyway?

“Well, anyway, how was your morning so far?” she questions while keeping a smile on her face.

I look at her, showing no expression whatsoever, I hope she takes the hint that I don’t want her here. She looks at me, she clearly is not taking the hint.

I sigh, “it was fine.”

Addison (or Allison) looked at me shocked, “you spoke! I’ve never heard you speak before!”

I roll my eyes and I begin to walk faster so I can lose her. She trails behind me, I turn a corner sharply and quickly. Then the school is right in front of me. I just wasted my time with that girl. I shudder. I walk straight onto the school grounds and as soon as I step foot inside the warm building, I get shoved in a locker.

It’s been about 20 minutes ago since I gave up trying to call for help within an empty locker. You’re wondering how I got shoved into a locker? One word, Axel. Axel is this really big dude who is the quarterback for our middle school football team, he’s a charming guy with his fluffy, messy blonde hair and he’s not just all charms, he also happens to be a huge jerk.

Him and his friends thought it would be a good idea to bully the weird outcast (me!), so they stuff me in a locker at the start of each school day. I’m usually in there for the entire school day, but I come prepared! I have some food, I start to dig into my schoolbag, which is really hard to do when you are in a very small and confined space. But then the locker door swings open and she’s there. I don’t know what to say...

Chapter 4 comes out next Friday!! Keep your eyes out for that!

hello my darling angels! i have started a writing challenge because i want to read more of what you write. i’m calling this a challenge because that’s what i’ve read others call it? rules are listed below! all submissions will be read by yours truly and (if they follow the p basic rules) i will post them all on a masterlist! i will reblog them and give you feedback because that’s what should happen regardless and also i love you guys! (gif not mine!)

rules

*no rape/incest/underage sex/etc.

*if you choose to write smut, you must be 18+!!! the characters you’re writing for must be 18+!!

*must be character x reader! you can write for multiple characters, but it still must be a reader insert!

*it’s first come first serve for characters, meaning there are character limits. multiple people can write for the same character, but they are capped. so please message me as soon as you see a character you want to write for!

*only one prompt per fic! (bonus points if you use any of my original prompts lol!) (also prompts can only be used once)

*triggers must be tagged. if there are any triggers in your fic, you must have a trigger warning. i cannot emphasize this enough.

*fic should be at least 500 words, if it’s longer (which please make it as long as you’d like!) you have to add a ‘read more’

Tumblr has decided that one of my posts “may contain adult content” and thus is blocked from public view. However, after digging all the way back through to February, there’s no indicator that it’s been flagged. So I can’t contest it.

It’s a fucking movie review post.

I can only assume the bot spazzed out because it contains a review of the documentary “Fagbug.”

Needless to say I’m reposting everything now because I AM SO FUCKING PISSED. Gay activist movies with inflammatory titles are “adult content.”

(I mean, it sucked, but still.)

Aside from that, I can’t find any content that would anger a bot. I mean, if the bot sat down and watched Take Me to the River, it’d probably get mad, but I don’t explicitly discuss any of its content, so...it included a picture of a child in a bathing suit from the waist up? Is that it? Did one of the movie posters look like nudity somehow? Because I looked at all of them and aside from the potentially triggering flesh tones in Happy Death Day’s poster (that creepy baby face sure is sexy amirite) I, again, see nothing.

And since you can no longer access the posts directly the only way to get the content back is to either harass tumblr via email until they allow the post back up or crawl through your posts on your own account, which can’t be done by day, just by page number. I can’t begin to imagine how shitty this is for people who have original content worth preserving.

movies watched in 2018

take me to the river: guys, here’s the thing. horror is my favorite genre and i’m pretty deadened to everything with “shock value” in film. this little indie drama here, though? this genuinely managed to shock me. i was sitting there at one point unable to believe i was actually watching what i was watching.

please keep in mind that i don’t think that scene was included for the sake of shock value; it was relevant and likely necessary. i’m just saying that NOTHING gets to me in that way, and this did.

it’s a fantastic film, albeit one of those annoying enigmas with no real answers. i would love to have an hour alone with the screenwriter just to find out what they were thinking of in terms of backstories. every major performance is perfect - logan miller is incredible. everyone’s performance is understated, natural and authentic. the little girl who played molly - not sure of her name but i recognized her from “louie” - holds her own with some amazing adult performances and is just as authentic as everyone else. robin reigert is quietly devastating, josh hamilton is equally quietly terrifying, richard schiff and azura skye disappear completely into their characters.

the pacing is on the slow side, but it works well for the story. i watched the entire thing with my stomach in knots, having no idea in hell where it was going. on several occasions i genuinely expected a murder. i’m not used to movies this quiet and slow being so unpredictable. i had to keep pausing it to shake off the tension. it’s also incredibly beautiful to look at.

this is one of those indie gems that is absolutely not for everyone - it touches on some subject matter than many would find deeply upsetting. and i think the film means to be deeply upsetting, but again, it’s in a way that’s not for everyone.

i do wish there were more answers, because i have so many questions, but it does guarantee i’ll be thinking about this movie for years to come, so maybe they did that on purpose.

as an aside, i kept thinking that the little girl looked incredibly familiar, and then it hit me. she looks like a miniature allison case.

change the hair color and she’s an absolute ringer.

(i also got a smile out of her name reveal, just because it’s her cousin asking her how to spell it and she starts with m, and for whatever reason i’m like “oh wouldn’t it be funny if we had the same name,” and at the -o i’m like trying to guess, “maybe she’s morgan, or -”; -l “...ha. awesome.” -l-y “well i’m glad they spelled it properly.” dunno why that amused me, but it did.)

it - better than i thought it would be in some ways. it’s not scary at all and the horror aspects are largely bungled, which is a shame because the dude playing pennywise is pretty creepy and could’ve done better stuff with a better script. i hate the changes they made to beverly’s character, and she and the kid from book of henry were so obnoxiously precocious and precious. that said, all the other kids were fantastic, including that kid i generally dislike from stranger things. he was hilarious, and he and the rest of the pack of boys were so natural in their roles you just started to believe that’s who they were. i’m vaguely looking forward to the sequel.

mammoth - a rewatch; it’s still the same infuriating mansplainy trash it was the first time around, but i wanted mom to see michelle williams’s performance, so. the cast really is perfect; that’s the one thing it has going for it.

marwencol - this guy’s photography is amazing, and his story is super interesting, but what kept jumping out at me was how fucking great this dude’s coping mechanisms were, even if they looked a little odd. for example, he has a crush on his married neighbor, so he added a doll based on her to his little village with the intent of having that doll marry the doll that’s his avatar. the woman got weirded out, told him it wasn’t cool - so he dealt with the rejection by creating a sorceress character who blinked the neighbor character out of that universe and hooked it up with that guy’s character. like...that’s the weirdest way i’ve ever seen someone handle rejection, but also kinda the healthiest. he said repeatedly that he had no interesting in actually pursuing his neighbor romantically because he respected that she was married. he never said a cruel word to her, or complained to the camera about her being a bitch or ungrateful or whatever dumb shit people come up with. absolutely no threats or hints of violence. just “i’m hurt by this rejection, so fuck it, i’m erasing her from this narrative.” like...that’s honestly brilliant. don’t know why this stuck with me more than anything else, but it did. i know there’s a drama adaptation coming out soon with steve carell, and i expect that’ll be great.

maudie - i adore sally hawkins so much. i haven’t seen the shape of water yet; i really only know her from paddington, but there’s just something about her that makes me like her. and her performance in this is stellar. i know nothing about maud lewis (besides the fact that i like her paintings) but sally hawkins was easy to fall in love with. sweet, smart, shrewd, just a hell of a mind but also a huge heart.

happy death day - i was NOT expecting to enjoy this as much as i did. it’s really perfectly executed for the type of movie it is. great comedy - one of the funniest onscreen kills i’ve ever seen - genuine danger and stakes (a rarity in groundhog day type movies), and a main character with actual depth; enough so that you actually care about her and want her to survive this movie (i don’t recognize the actress, but she does a great job with the role). and a fucking fantastic red herring that totally caught me off-guard. i was expecting something dumb, a carelessly written splatterfest aimed at the lowest common denominator. (yeah i’m a horror snob fuck you.) actually there’s very little blood/gore, which apparently bothered some viewers, but i don’t think any effect was minimized without it. i had a ton of fun watching it. didn’t expect that.

dunkirk - i’m just gonna say it. it was bad. i’m generally pretty neutral on war movies - for the most part they’re not my thing but there are plenty i’ve enjoyed and plenty i’ve been able to appreciate as good filmmaking even if the film itself wasn’t for me. this movie is just not good. generic war movie created around a truly amazing true story that could have been an amazing film. wasted opportunity.

fagbug - i completely understand why the gay community had worse things to say about this person than heteros did. ugh. stop making actual tragedies about you, stop talking over people and stop acting like an epic victim.

before i wake - surprisingly not bad, could’ve been better. liked it better before the last few minutes. it had some clever ideas and it was fun putting everything together, but having it put together for us takes the fun out of it, and making the kids’ “powers” unambiguous is a little...hard to swallow i guess? but it’s still surprisingly pretty good.

under the arctic sky - random netflix generator told me to watch this and while cold water surfing isn’t something i’m super interested in, the photography is gorgeous. i can’t pretend i didn’t cry like a little bitch watching the one guy surfing under the northern lights. just...the world is just awesome.

She hated to admit it, but her neck was starting to hurt. She had the worst posture when she was hard at work, and with the sudden appearance of a second Youth Center and a three-building apartment complex thanks to Rose’s wish, there was a ton of work to do between her and Zane. She started rubbing the back of her neck and rolling her head around, trying to get the soreness away.

“You need a break, Tech Goddess,” Zane said without looking up from his own computer.

“How do you even do that?” Daisy asked, looking over at him.

“What, the working for hours on end without moving an inch or the knowing you need a break thing?” he asked, his mouth quirking up in a grin.

“Both, smartass,” she replied, moving her laptop aside and coming over to see what he was working on. It looked like fake IDs for some of the newer arrivals.

“You’re a freelance hacker and, let’s be real, Coulson’s a nice boss. You haven’t had the kind of background I have,” he said. “There’s been nights I’ve had to pull all nighters and get maybe four hours sleep because if I keep my eyes off an experiment too long, the world goes up in flames because some idiot thinks it’ll be funny to jack up my experiment. I mean, apparently my first day in Eureka, I had to deal with the recreation of the big bang in the other universe while most of the people in town became children.”

She tilted her head. “You never really talk about Eureka,” she said.

“More fun to watch it, for the most part,” he said with a slight shrug. “I mean, the parts of the story they don’t show are kind of boring, all the stuff with actually building the stuff to save the day, but overall the series is pretty fun.”

After a moment she sat on the edge of his desk, nudging his laptop slightly, and then he looked up. “It doesn’t bother you? Knowing you’re fictional? Knowing anyone can watch your series and know everything about you?”

He shook his head. “It probably helps my series is finished. There’s a whole life left for me to live in Eureka no one knows jack about, unless someone shows up from the future and tells me. And my series isn’t like yours. Yeah, bad stuff happens. We lost people. We had our entire lives changed. But it’s not a kind of...” He groped for the words to describe what her life was like back home.”

“Crapfest?” she said with a wry smile.

“Yeah. Most of us got happy endings. I mean, Holly died, but we got her back in a body, and in the end, she and Fargo got back together and went off to do science together. Henry managed to get Beverly to get Grace out of jail and then he got to run GD when Grant bought it. Allison and Carter are staying in Eureka and Allison’s having their first kid together. And then...” He trailed off.

“You got a happy ending?” she said quietly.

“Should have,” he replied. “My girlfriend proposed to me. Mirrored the proposal I gave to her before she and the others changed history, which mirrored our first real encounter in the old universe. I said yes, by the way.”

Daisy was quiet at that. She knew he’d been serious with someone at some point; he’d seen pictures of him and a dark haired woman in the house, but he didn’t realize it had been that serious. “What was her name?”

“Josefina Lupo,” he said, a soft smile settling on his lips. “She went by Jo, though. There were very few people in the world allowed to call her anything other than Jo. I was lucky I got away with Jo-Jo.” He tapped in a few keys on his laptop and a picture came up of him and the woman. “Ex-Army Ranger, loved her guns, former Catholic, current Presbyterian, only girl in a family of boys, her dad kinda liked me but her brothers hated me until I kicked their asses at football, had this gorgeous yellow dress she’d wear sometimes when she thought I was working too hard and deserved surprise because otherwise she was always in pantsuits. Loved me even when I was a fuck-up, except I didn’t know why.” He looked up at Daisy. “Universe changing stuff. It got weird when I figured it out, but...we worked it out.”

Daisy nodded. “And you still love her?”

“I’m always going to love her,” he said, tracing her face as he looked back at the picture, his smile becoming sad. “But am I in love with her? No, not anymore. Too many years, too many universes, too many other people I’ve met and cared about.”

Daisy felt a sort of relief at that statement. She leaned over and, without thinking, kissed the top of his head. “Good. Don’t be like me.”

Zane grinned slightly. “You’re not so bad, you know. You aren’t moping, at least. You’re a part of the community, you socialize, you have friends.”

“Yeah, well, I’m not exactly Miss Sociability in your hacker cave, now am I?” she asked.

“Okay, that’s it,” he said, moving his chair away. “We’re doing a marathon. I’m going to embarrass myself and we’re going to watch my show from my introductory episode on and we’ll rope Cami into it and anyone else who wants to join in and you guys can laugh at my god awful spiked hair and the really bad beginning to my relationship with Jo-Jo. If I can laugh at it, you can too.” He didn’t even hesitate before picking her up off his desk in both arms and carrying her towards the stairs.

“You know, you are ridiculously comfortable…” Daisy said with a laugh.

“Then you and Cami can fight over who uses me for a human pillow,” he said with a grin as he headed up the stairs. She snuggled against him, pleased for at least a little bit for the distraction. Distraction was good, and it was even better if it was at his expense and not hers.
