One Exception
Tumblr media
Pairing: CJ Braxton x F. Reader
Summary: Joey has invited you to a party at Pacey’s apartment, and CJ has agreed to go, despite the contentious history between him and your new friends. He doesn’t want to be the reason you miss out on a good thing, but it also means he’ll have to hide his apprehension (and his alcoholism).
AN: Here’s the sequel to Good Morning! This story takes place in 6.14 of the show, with a little twist.
Word Count: 4K
Tags/Warnings: Mature themes, but it doesn’t really warrant an 18+ rating. Angst, alcoholism, hurt/comfort, jealousy, fluff, tinge of spice, and implied smut.
Tumblr media
“Nice television,” CJ remarked, noting the giant monstrosity in the middle of this very loud apartment.
“See? Told you it’d be low-key,” you said.
More like high and off-key, CJ thought wryly.
Nickleback’s “How You Remind Me” was blaring. People you and CJ recognized from school were crowded in the living room around the TV, as well as milling around the kitchen with beers and solo cups, and it was pretty much a wall of sound that already grated on CJ’s ears. Pacey had to be in here somewhere too.
You squeezed CJ’s hand and gave him a sympathetic smile.
“You okay?” you asked.
He gave you a smile to hide his nerves. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
He was no stranger to parties. He just didn’t often find himself going to parties where the host had once introduced his face to a brick wall.
Before he truly got to know you, CJ had a one-time unintentional fling with your (former) dorm roommate, Audrey. She’d been spiraling out of control in an alcohol-fueled depression. He’d seen a kindred spirit in her and tried to help her. He just hadn’t known that she was still sort of in a relationship with Pacey, who had a mean right hook when he wanted to.
And then there was Jen, Audrey and Joey’s best friend. CJ felt the worst for hurting her along the way, unable to reciprocate her feelings…
And, oh yeah, you still didn’t know about that last part.
CJ silently stewed in all of this when you led him by the hand to find your friend and current dormmate, Joey.
“Hey! Glad you could make it,” she said with her wide, doe brown eyes and a too-bright smile.
You gave her a quirking look when you hugged her in greeting. She smelled like vodka and orange juice, but you’d never known Joey to go too hard in the paint with her liquor.
She gave your companion a little wave. “Hey, CJ!”
“Hey,” he nodded with a smile.
“You guys want something to drink?” she asked, gesturing to the row of liquor bottles and various chasers behind her on the kitchen counter. You internally paused for a moment, glancing at your boyfriend, but you turned back to Joey with a smile.
“Yeah, Diet Coke would be great,” you said.
CJ gave you a curious look, but he asked for the same. Joey bobbed her head before she went to pour the drinks into some plastic cups.
CJ leaned in near your ear. “Sweetheart, you’re allowed to drink. You know I’ve been to parties before.”
In fact, you and CJ had met at a club party. One where Audrey had been led up to some guy’s room while she was drunk, and CJ had all but broken down the door to get her out for you and Jen.
“I know, I just don’t feel like doing alcohol tonight,” you told him.
It wasn’t exactly a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either. You just didn’t want to risk making CJ even more uncomfortable than he likely already was, being near Pacey. You’d asked Joey to talk to him for you—a plea for him to not try and kill your boyfriend.
And there your esteemed host was, coming over now.
“Heyyyy, good thinking,” said Pacey. He went over to Joey’s side when she turned to hand you and CJ your drinks. He grabbed another cup to pour one for himself.
“Hey, man,” CJ greeted politely. His hands were in his pockets, trying to mask his stiffness.
Pacey hesitated, taking note of CJ, but the beat of tension broke between the two men when Pacey graciously stuck out a hand.
“Hey. Good to see ya…not with my girlfriend,” he quipped with a smile.
CJ’s was a bit more strained, but he gave a wry chuckle along with his handshake. Joey elbowed Pacey in the ribs.
“Ah, what?” he protested. She gave him a firm look, pursing her lips. Then she turned to you and CJ with a smile.
“Hey, you guys have any whiskey?” Jen cut in, as she sidled up to Joey. “I’m not so much in a beer mood, but whiskey I could do. Maybe it’s the burn I’m craving—”
She stopped short when she saw you and CJ. Her smile thinned.
“Oh! Hey, there,” she said.
CJ offered her nod, but his insides tightened. He watched you brighten and give Jen a hug that the other woman couldn’t easily reciprocate. Jen’s eyes were on him, even while she hugged you.
You and Joey then broke off to catch up for a bit (CJ encouraged you to it), while Pacey went back to watching a football game on the mega-sized TV with Jack. CJ was about to join them when Jen’s voice stopped him.
“You guys look good together,” she said. She had a glass of whiskey in her hand and a small smile on her face. Her blonde hair was shorter now, cut just below her ears. Her black halter-style dress suited her.
But she wasn’t you.
CJ smiled more genuinely. “Thanks.”
Jen was a good person. He was still sorry that he hurt her, but he wasn’t sorry for choosing you.
Tumblr media
You were happy to see CJ hanging out with his friend David, along with Jack and Pacey and some other guys from school. Meanwhile, you had the chance to catch up with Joey and Jen.
Maybe it would give you a chance to mend this weird rift of distance that had seemed to come between you and Jen in recent weeks.
You didn’t know where it came from, but you genuinely admired Jen as a person. She was smart, and she always spoke her mind and stuck to her principles. That was something you wish you had more of in yourself.
Now, she was a bit quiet while sipping her whiskey. Joey made up for it, with a kind of giggle-snort you'd never heard come out of her mouth before. You raised a brow, despite your smile.
"Yes, Josephine?" you teased.
"Sorry," she waved a dismissive hand. "Just remembered something. Like the fact that I really like vodka. I mean, it's clear, almost tasteless, so it's almost like drinking water, you know?"
You and Jen shared an amused look.
"Sure, that's what it's like," you said.
Joey's eyes went wide then. She leaned in close to you, leaning on your shoulder.
"Oh. Don't drink champagne though," she said, while eyeing Jen. She "whispered" loud enough to be heard over the music, and also hurt your left ear. "She once killed a girl with champagne."
Jen's mouth fell open incredulously. Your eyes went as wide as Joey's. This was some serious “girl time.”
"Wait, what?" you said.
Jen looked at her empty glass. "Well, would you look at that? Right on time."
She escaped to the kitchen to refill her tumbler, but you and Joey followed her; you out of morbid curiosity, and Joey because she too wanted more vodka than orange juice in her plastic cup.
Jen gave you a smirk as she filled up her glass.
"Don't worry, you're all safe. This is Jameson," she said.
You emitted some nervous laughter and leaned on the kitchen counter, trying to figure out where the joke was here. How the hell do you kill a girl with champagne?
“So are you sure you don’t want an actual drink?” Jen asked, gesturing at your soda.
“Oh, no. I’m fine,” you held up a dismissive hand.
“You sure?” Pacey said, coming up from behind your little group to find a beer. “I got your boyfriend a vodka soda. I can get you one too.”
Your eyes widened, though you tried to hide your alarm, smoothing your hands down your jeans.
“What?” you asked.
Pacey paused. He’d caught the surprise flitting across your face. “What?”
“Um…” Your hesitation came from trying to process information in record time. You looked over and saw CJ with David. Your boyfriend was indeed holding a different cup.
You returned your attention to Pacey. His brows were raised. Joey looked confused as well, while Jen was sipping at her own drink, in a way that hinted that she already knew what you were about to say.
“CJ doesn’t drink,” you explained.
Pacey brows popped higher. “Ah. He’s 21 though, right?”
“Yes, but he’s a recovering alcoholic,” you said with a sigh. You didn’t want to have to say that, telling CJ's business, but you didn’t know how else to explain why you were slightly freaking out.
“Oh…uh, sorry about that,” Pacey said.
“No, it’s not your fault. Don’t worry about it,” you said.
Pacey gave a wan smile and returned to the group around the TV, CJ included. You sighed and turned back to Jen and Joey.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know either,” Joey said.
“Nothing to be sorry about,” you said, shaking your said. “I’ll just check on him, if you guys don’t mind—”
Jen’s glass hit the counter, and she poured herself another whiskey on the rocks.
“By all means, check away,” she said.
Tumblr media
“Hey, sorry man. I didn’t know,” Pacey had said to him, with a look on his face that also said:
Sorry you’re a leper. That’s rough buddy.
CJ found himself withdrawing from the rest of the guys, even as the smell of vodka wafted from the solo cup in his hand. He glanced down at it with a short sigh, but he didn’t drink it, even though his hand itched to raise the cup to his lips.
You startled him a little when your hand curled around his arm.
“Hey,” you greeted in a whisper.
“Hey,” he smiled back at you. But the worried look on your face made his smile fall.
“Wanna hang out for a bit?” you asked, nodding at a quieter looking corner of the living room.
CJ waved at David with the hand that held his cup, and he followed you over to the far side of the couch. You sat on its edge, arms crossed, while he found a seat on the sill of a large window.
You pointedly glanced at his cup. “Have you been drinking?”
CJ’s lips pursed. He took in your stance: arms crossed, shoulders tense, lips pursed, eyes deeply concerned and wary.
Are we having fun yet? he thought dryly.
“See, I’d be more inclined to answer that question if you hadn’t lured me over here under false pretenses,” he remarked. Though he did set the cup down beside him on the windowsill.
“What false pretenses?” you asked, your brows furrowing.
“You don’t want to be with me. You want to check up on me,” he pointed out. “You’re looking at me like an inmate who got loose in the psych ward.”
You frowned then. “That’s not true. I’m just wondering why you would take an alcoholic beverage from Pacey.”
“Your friend offered me a drink. It seemed rude to say no, so…” CJ glanced down at his hands in his lap. Your head tilted in concern.
“CJ…” you sighed. “Why the hell would you ruin your sobriety over something like that?”
“I don’t expect you to understand,” he replied flatly.
“Oh really?” you said. Your lips pursed in irritation.
“I just didn’t want to get into it with a stranger,” CJ said, throwing up a hand. “But thanks for telling him that I don’t drink. Now he’s apologizing to me like I’m dying or something.”
A sharper sigh fell from your lips. “I told you we didn’t have to come here. I didn’t want to make you feel pressured to—”
“Again, you know this isn’t my first house party,” he said.
“Yeah, I know it’s not. So why? Why did this happen tonight?” you asked. “For as long as I’ve known you, you’ve been so disciplined with yourself. You have a set of rules, and you follow them.”
“Yeah, well, did it ever occur to you that maybe I realized that I was too strict on myself?” he said. “That maybe we wouldn’t even be together if I didn’t bend those rules?”
Your mouth fell open incredulously, a bit of anger sparking your blood. He knew he shouldn't have said that. It just kind of flew out of his mouth, immediately sparking his guilt.
“Okay,” you snipped. “Well, maybe you shouldn’t be bending those rules at all if this is where it leads.”
CJ's lips pursed. “What, because I’ve been sitting here, spending the last hour debating whether or not to take a drink?”
He gestured at the cup beside him.
Your eyes blinked wider, with even more surprise, and a heavy dose of confusion.
“Wait, what? Are you telling me that you haven’t been drinking tonight?” you asked.
“Is that going to magically change all the conclusions you just jumped to?” CJ retorted.
You closed your eyes with a sharp, exasperated sigh. When you opened them again, you frowned at him.
“Uh, yeah!” you exclaimed. "Of course it does, CJ!"
“Well, it doesn’t work that way,” he said. “Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it. Fine. Just like I’ve been trying to find some normalcy with you here. But apparently you find that wildly insulting.”
He was getting wildly defensive right now. You sort of saw where he was coming from, but it was still frustrating. You held a hand to your chest as your heart raced with the force of your relief.
“Look, I’m sorry for assuming. I’m just…I was worried about you,” you said honestly. “I knew coming here might be stressful for you—”
“I can handle stress,” CJ said. “What I can’t handle is you looking at me like I’m a powder keg waiting to explode.”
You raised up placating hands as you glared at him.
“Fine,” you said. “Sorry for being concerned about my boyfriend. I’ll try to curb that behavior in the future.”
At that, CJ’s frustration and anger simmered down, swiftly followed by more guilt.
You got up and blinked quickly, like you were fighting tears as you shook your head. You aimed to get by him, but he got off the windowsill and went for your hand. There was no drunk excuse for his behavior now.
No, this one was all him.
“Hey,” he said, in a softer voice. He looked down at you with softer eyes too. He could see now that you didn’t mean to make him feel less than, like you had to watch him so he wouldn’t mess up in front of your friends. No, you were just genuinely worried about his wellbeing.
You looked up at him warily. He held your hand more securely in his.
“Okay, I’m sorry. I am,” he said, when he noted your raised brow. “I’m really grateful that you care about me. That you’re concerned about me. But I’ve been dealing with this for a long time. I don’t want you to feel like you can’t be yourself either, even when we’re out here in the wild.”
A small smile twitched at your lips. You held his hand back.
“Out in the wild, huh?” you quirked a brow. CJ smiled back and brushed your cheek with his thumb.
“I just need you to trust me a little more,” he said.
You nodded, smiling when his forehead gently rested against yours. The ends of his hair tickled between your brows.
“Okay, I’m sorry too,” you said. “Next time I won’t be so quick on the draw.”
You leaned up for a kiss. CJ met you there, sweetly at first. Then he tilted his head and deepened the angle of his lips moving against yours.
“Ooh save that for later,” Joey said, loudly from behind you.
It made you jolt in CJ’s arms. You turned your head and met your friend with a wide-eyed look of confusion. She held an empty wine bottle in her hand and waggled mischievous brows.
“Come on, let’s play.”
Tumblr media
You really couldn’t believe that Joey was making you all play Spin the Bottle. For you, it was the stuff of awkward middle school horror stories of the highest form. She’d roped in you and CJ, Jen, Jack, Pacey and their roommate Emma, and Gus, a gross looking guy who was apparently her "fiancé" of some sort.
Gus took the first turn, and got creative with it—giving Joey a nice lick on the cheek.
That’s what you get for making us play this dumbass game, you thought as you laughed.
Joey ended up giving Jack a sweet kiss, followed by him and Emma sharing a little lip-lock, and even Emma and Jen giggling as they came together for a peck.
But when it was Jen’s turn, the wine bottle spun, and spun…and landed on CJ. A chorus of “ooohs” came from the others.
You felt yourself bristle internally. It’s just a game, you reminded yourself. Just a stupid, stupid game.
You patted CJ’s knee and tried to school your face into amusement.
“You’re up, babe,” you said.
He looked a bit uncomfortable when he met your eyes, and then Jen’s. She wore a smile, though she was a little absent in the eyes. She’d been pounding hard liquor pretty much all night.
“All right, CJ. Let’s get this over with,” she teased.
He let out a subtle breath through his nose, but he uncurled his arm from around you so that he could lean over to meet Jen across the circle. Instead of the light peck that he was aiming for, she surprised him by taking his face in her hands and giving him a kiss deep enough to make him taste the burn of whiskey.
He parted from her with a flinch. His eyes blinked wide. A quick glance around the circle told him he wasn’t the only one who was surprised, but you were the only one he cared about. He settled back next to you and felt guilty for your muted disbelief, even though he wasn’t the real perpetrator here.
CJ frowned hard at Jen. She just smiled and crossed her arms around her legs, head bobbing to the tune of the alt rock music playing.
“Damn, Jen,” Pacey said, laughing uncomfortably. “That’s some dedication to the game.”
You were still shocked into stillness. You knew Jen was a bit deep into the bottle, but was she really drunk enough to try and make out with your boyfriend in front of you?
Joey finally dropped her hands from her face (she’d been watching the scene through the cracks in her fingers). She gave you an apologetic look. She was very effing drunk as well, you knew, but not make out with your boyfriend in front of you—drunk.
You finally looked over at CJ, not knowing who you should be more irritated with: Jen for sticking her tongue down his throat, or CJ for letting her.
“It’s your turn, bro,” Gus said. Not that he cared about whoever CJ landed on. He just wanted the chance to kiss another one of the girls. Preferably Emma.
CJ shook his head. “I don’t think I—”
“Go ahead,” you said. Your tone was a challenge, as were your crossed arms, and the tight expression on your face. “It’s just a game, right?”
That last part, you aimed at Jen. She finally had enough self-awareness to avert her drunken gaze. Your teeth were grinding.
Though you had to pause when you realized where CJ’s spun bottle had landed: right on you.
“Aw, well that’s good,” Joey said, with a nervous laugh that broke some of the tension in this little circle.
CJ let out a subtle breath of relief himself. But this was a whole new challenge as he met your steely gaze. He tried to give you a smile.
Your eyes fell. So with a small sigh, he gently took your chin between his fingers and tilted your face up to him, just before he leaned in to kiss you.
He plied you softly at first. His lips dragged against yours in a slow, lingering kiss. Then he angled his head away from the circle, away from prying eyes as he brushed his tongue across your lower lip, seeking entrance. You inhaled deeply, and you couldn’t help but let him in.
You uncrossed your arms and found his cheek with your hand. Your fingers soon delved into his hair, nails lightly scraping the back of his neck. He barely restrained a shudder.
“Ah, okay then,” Pacey muttered.
When you parted from CJ, your heart was racing, and there was a fire in your belly that you could see reflected in his eyes.
“I’m a little thirsty, you wanna…” he trailed. You nodded and let him help you off the ground where you all had been sitting.
CJ’s arm once again wrapped around your waist, and he led you into the first bedroom he could find. The door shut against the blaring music, the sounds of laughter and stories and dumb middle school games.
Until all that was left was you and CJ, and the sounds of quick breaths, clothes hitting the floor, and skin against skin.
Tumblr media
“I’m sorry about earlier. With the game,” CJ later said. “Jen took me by surprise.”
Much later, where you were tangled up in his arms and the sheets, both of you mostly naked and tucked under the covers. You felt bad that you didn’t even know whose bedroom this was.
Jack’s maybe? You could only hope so. That would probably be the least awkward situation if you two were caught in here.
But at CJ’s question, your blissful mood of moments before was wiped away. Your face dropped into a frown. You turned in his arms so that you could see his face, resting your head on his arm.
“Yeah, what the hell was that with Jen?” you asked.
CJ soothed a hand up and down your arm. He knew it was time for him to come clean with you, even though he knew it might make you look at him differently. He could only hope that it wouldn’t.
“Before you and I started talking, dating—well, you know what happened with me and Audrey,” he said, expelling a breath of regret. “Before then, Jen had feelings for me.”
Your eyes widened. By now you could’ve guessed that Jen wanted your boyfriend, but you had no idea it had started way back then. CJ looked you in the eyes.
“I just didn’t feel the same way,” he said. “Then Audrey and I happened, just the one night. But Jen…I know I hurt her, and I felt terrible. I still feel bad about that, because I never meant to hurt her. I just thought Audrey and I had a connection.”
“And then Pacey,” you supplied, realizing where this story was headed. A fight between Pacey and CJ. Audrey left for rehab in California. And Jen was left to nurse her wounded pride and hurt feelings…especially when you and CJ began for real.
You closed your eyes on a sigh. This explained why she’d been so frigid to you lately.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” CJ said. “I didn’t want to come between you guys, or hurt her more by pursuing another one of her friends…I just couldn’t help falling for you.”
At that admission, you softened. You caressed CJ’s cheek, and you brought him down to you for a kiss. Again, it was slow and unhurried, yet no less passionate.
Your lips parted from his first, so you could meet his eyes.
“I’ll talk to Jen,” you said. “But…I’m glad I fell for you too.”
You and CJ shared a quiet moment then, each of you processing, hands intertwined. It had you thinking about everything he said tonight, even before the game.
“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it. Fine,” he’d said. “Just like I’ve been trying to find some normalcy with you here. But apparently you find that wildly insulting.”
You sighed and squeezed his hand. It was comfortably trapped between his bare chest and yours.
“Just for the record, you don’t have to be ‘normal’ for me, or be what you think I want around my friends. Just be you,” you said, meeting his green-eyed gaze. “I do trust you, CJ. I trust that you want to be with me, and that you have a handle on yourself.”
CJ smiled ruefully. He ran his thumb across the back of your hand.
“You were right though. The truth is I did get a little nervous tonight,” he said. “Being here, seeing Pacey…it brought up all that drama again. I took that vodka soda from him, and I was thinking about drinking it.”
“But you didn’t,” you said firmly. “Because you’re strong. Stronger than anyone I know.”
CJ looked down at your hand joined with his, at your face, set with honesty and vehemence. You seemed to believe every word of what you were saying. That alone made him feel strong.
“Thanks,” he said with a smile.
It hadn’t been all that long, but he knew this felt right. It always felt right with you.
You smiled back at him and leaned up for a sweeter kiss.
“Thank you for bending your own rules for me,” you teased.
CJ chuckled. He stroked your cheek and pressed another kiss to your forehead.
“You’re my one exception,” he said.

uuUmmmMMM BY THE WAY there's an episode of Dawson's Creek about how Dawson forgets his best friend Pacey's birthday because he's preoccupied with his girlfriend Joey (who soon begins to focus on her own independence).
Spoilers for Dawson’s Creek, especially S02E02.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NO REASON I BROUGHT THIS UP OR ANYTHING.
No reason at all.
Also, the reason Dawson is preoccupied with his girlfriend Joey is because they’ve both been dishonest with each other and their formerly close friendship has been weird since they started dating. Despite being friends for years, they don’t actually know each other.
“I don’t think I know you at all.”
“Maybe you don’t, Dawson. Maybe you never did.”
Later on, Dawson and Joey are described as looking like "brother and sister" by some acquaintances see them kiss.
WHAT A RANDOM THING TO BRING UP. WHY DID I DO THAT.
Also, Pacey was going to go on a road trip with Dawson. Now he feels like his best friend in the world looks at him like he doesn't care about him, and he doesn't want to be a third wheel, when his friendship with Dawson doesn't seem to compare to what Dawson has with Joey.
Also in that episode, some people knock into Pacey, spilling his drink on his shirt and laughing at him.
THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING, THOUGH.
Also in that episode, Dawson’s parents are debating whether they should get a divorce because they haven't been honest with each other; however, people keep encouraging them to stay together. Also, Jack, a gay character is introduced in this episode with rainbow imagery subtly following him throughout the series.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CORRELATION BETWEEN ANY OF THESE THINGS WITH STRANGER THINGS. NOT A SINGLE CORRELATION AT ALL.
Now, here’s some totally random gifs.

There's an us now.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem!Reader (no physical descriptions, BUT reader is Robin's best friend which is major plot point)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve and Y/N start to develop feelings for each other yet there are a few obstacles they are scared of dealing with (again, i'm the worst at summarys)
Word count: 4.1k (eye- she's a long one)
Warnings: Enemies to lovers kind of trope, pretty much a teen movie vibe, angsty?? agruments, douchey behaviour, fluff in there. Some curse words. (English is NOT my first language)
A/N: Hi! So, I've been working on this for a few weeks but idk how good it is. My work is never proof read....so....should probably warn that too. Anyway i'm posting it bc still in my “based on Pacey Witter” era…so yeah- hope you guys enjoy! <3 thank you so much for reading my other fics inspired by the dawson's creek show too!
READ PART 2 HERE
Ever have one of those days you wish you could live all over again?
Well, it all started a couple of weeks ago...
Y/N found a pay phone and called Steve after a failed night out. But I should probably tell you why she called Steve or better yet, how she met Steve.
Y/N has been Robin's best friend since they were five years old. It is your classic "I hope our kids become best friends" type of story. And of course, they did. Y/N was always the quiet kid in school; until she met hyper little Robin. It pretty much started with a simple "Wanna come play with me? I brought my new pet rocks!" and well, how could Y/N say no to that? From that moment on it was them against the world. Sure, they only had each other but that was more than enough.
And let's remember that nothing ever came between them, I mean, the way they love one another is something anyone should be jealous of. And when Robin was understanding her identity and felt scared about her own feelings and how others would react, she never hesitated to tell Y/N about them, she knew she would never judge her and that there wasn't anything they wouldn't do for each other. They were family after all.
But then came the year 1985.
Y/N and Robin were supposed to get summer jobs so they could save up for college and move in together. It has been their dream since they were twelve. Them against the artsy city of New York. Therefore, Y/N started working at the coffee shop near the new mall and Robin at the ice cream shop in the new mall. And that's when it all started to change. Maybe that's a bit dramatic, but we should probably continue with the fact that Steve "The hair" Harrington was Robin's co-worker at Scoops Ahoy.
If we thought Robin and Steve didn't get along or in better words, find each other's company annoying, Y/N and Steve had nothing on them. They could barely stand each other, always bickering and calling each other names. Many said it was because there was too much sexual tension but they would say it was pure loathing. Again, dramatic, but that's how it felt at the time.
When Robin and Steve finally became friends, they went to visit Y/N at the coffee shop. Steve protested but he could never win an argument against Robin. Y/N saw Robin and immediately started smiling, that was until she saw Steve with her of course, her smile turned into a frown with an annoyed look on her face, but what could she do? they were also best friends now. So, when they all sat in the modern coffee shop waiting for Y/N to start her shift, that's when she saw what she thought was one of the most handsome men she has ever seen. So she stopped listening to whatever argument Steve and Robin were having today.
"So, what do you think Y/N?" said Robin hoping her friend would back her up.
"Y/N? Earth to Y/N." Steve started shaking his hand in front of her face making her wake up from her daydreaming.
"What?" she said with a face none of them recognized on her but Steve still tried to figure out.
Robin looked in the direction Y/N was daydreaming and noticed the guy waiting in line. "Who is that?"
"Who's who?" Y/N said hoping that it sounded cool enough for them to not ask any more questions or better yet, to not embarrass her.
"Uh...the guy who's breaking your neck?" said Steve with an amused face.
"Could it be? Y/N is finally noticing the opposite sex?"
Y/N frowned for what felt like eight times that day. "Bite me, Steve." she deadpanned.
Steve could only smirk at that and couldn't help but tease a little more. "Um, excuse me, young man! This woman here thinks you're very attractive!"
Y/N widen her eyes and put her hand on Steve's mouth so he would stop talking. "You asshole!"
The guy in the white shirt turned around and locked eyes with Y/N and he couldn't help but smile at her.
After Y/N returned the smile and saw the guy walking in, she turned to Steve with an entirely different facial expression.
"I'm going to kill you, one night in your sleep, a slit throat, maybe, or a screwdriver to your temple. Be ready." that's when she got up and left.
And of course, Robin just stayed there confused about what just happened in the last minute.
-------------------------------------------------
Later, Y/N and the guy in the white shirt, which turned out to have a name, Scott, became Y/N's first real boyfriend. And it was nice... for a couple of months until they broke up because Scott thought they needed time apart. Yeah, pretty shitty. But that leads us to this:
The party was throwing a get-together and of course, Robin, Steve, and Y/N were invited, even Vickie, Robin's current crush. But Y/N didn't show. She was still in her depression stage. And Robin being the best friend she was tried almost everything to make her feel better but Y/N was convinced she was in love with Scott and that's why it hurt so much so... Robin's last resource believe it or not was Steve Harrington. He was a great listener and an amazing friend when he wanted to be... so Robin decided to ask him a favour.
"You should have seen her...Steve...I need to know that she's okay. Could you talk to her and watch over her for a while?" said Robin sweetly hoping to convince him.
"Oh no, no, no, no." Steve chuckled nervously at the request. Y/N hated his guts how was he supposed to do that?
"She needs someone Steve, not that she would ever admit it."
Steve started making this "I really don't want to do this” face, like when someone asks you to do the dishes or something but how could he say no to Robin? It was scientifically impossible.
"You would be doing it as a favour to me, please." She begged. She never begged. So with that, Steve accepted.
Later that day, it was Steve's first attempt at standing by Y/N's side as long as she needed someone. That much he knew.
While Y/N was crying by herself like one does and having the biggest pity party, she couldn't help but notice the figure of a man, a man with a very distinguished haircut.
"Ahoy there! Anyone on the shore?" said Steve. Yeah, don't know what he expected with that. I blame it on the nerves.
"What are you doing here?" Yep. She sounded annoyed between those sniffs.
"It's the damnest thing, I just got into my car and magically drifted to your house."
"Yeah well, magically drift any closer and I'll kill you" Yeah...she loved giving him death threats.
"You know, I almost believed that..." said Steve.
Y/N looked at Steve while he sat next to her and notice that smug smile he did when he tried to be nice. "She told you didn't she?"
He nervously sighed. "What do you think?"
"I think I hate you both."
"Well you really gonna hate me when you hear what I got to say...he did the right thing, Scott, I mean."
That made Y/N look his way again but this time with a confused expression, waiting for him to continue. "You both need to be apart right now."
"How would you know what I need?" answered Y/N with a very dry tone.
"Yeah..." Steve scoffed. "You know, you're probably right. How could I possibly know how hard it is to let somebody go right? The pain of knowing that even though you're right for each other, that doesn't necessarily mean you're right for each other right now. What would I know about that right?"
Y/N closed her eyes and hoped the tears would stop coming out. But of course, she never was that lucky.
"Of all the people to see me like this, it had to be you." She finally answered, wipping her tears.
Steve chuckled. "Well you know, it's a new year, who knows, you and I might even become friends."
Y/N glared at him. "Steve, I'm upset enough as it is."
Steve smiled and put his armed around Y/N hoping it would bring her comfort somehow and when she didn't move, flinch or punch him he had this warm feeling inside which only grew when she started crying on his shoulder, seeking that comfort.
And that is the how and why that made Y/N call Steve that night. Somehow thanks to Robin and that shitty breakup with Scott.
---------------------------------------------------
So, anyway, back to the day it all changed for the two of them.
Y/N waited for Steve to pick her up and hoped he wouldn't ask any questions. But then again, when did he not?
"Hey, so what happened?" Steve asked of course.
"Nothing happened." Y/N just wanted to go home and change from the fancy outfit that she now found stupid.
Steve only felt more curious. "You got bored? you got homesick? you finally ripped off his rubber mask and revealed his true alien features? what?"
"I don't want to talk about it." she couldn't get more clear than that.
The boy scoffed in fake offense. "Oh well, forgive me if I'm having a little bit of trouble with the “no questions asked” part."
By then, they both got in the car and Steve started driving for what felt like an eternity but Y/N couldn't stand to be in that place any longer.
"So, are you ever gonna speak again? come on Y/N, say something."
Y/N with a short temper finally answered what she was hoping to avoid. "What do you want me to say Steve? “You were right”? you were right okay? right as always. Steve Harrington, the only person in my life who ever speaks the truth." she said with a fake smile.
Steve found that ironic, you know, because of the fact that with time he started developing feelings for the Y/H/C girl. But that's a story for another day.
"That's not entirely accurate." he mumbled.
"Well, you told me what was going to happen."
"Which was what Y/N/N? what happened up there?"
Steve truly just wanted to help. He couldn't stand to see her sad, he just wanted to take all her pain away all the time, even for the smallest thing, he just wanted her to be happy.
"There was another girl." said Y/N taking Steve out of his thoughts.
"Oh…I'm sorry Y/N/N." Even though he secretly wished she would be with him, he truly was sorry.
"You know, the whole time that I was watching them I just kept thinking, this is it. This is real. Just like Steve said. This is the real thing. And it reminded me once again what exactly I don't have."
Again, Steve thought this conversation was just ironic, making him want to profess his undying love for her, but he decided to keep it vague. He couldn't risk the friendship they had developed and of course, the promise he made to Robin, the "off limits" promise as he likes to call it.
"You keep looking and you'll find it." smooth Steve, smooth.
Y/N obviously didn't get the hint "I won't. I mean isn't that obvious by now? I'm not meant to."
How dramatic could she be? "Why? because you're 18 and alone? come on…"
"No, because I'm 18 and in my entire life there have been two people that actually know me Steve. Robin and-"
"This Tobey guy didn't know you, alright? I don't care how you felt about him Y/N/N, he didn't know you because if he did, he would never have walked away." that Steve got worked up over her last choice of words was an understatement.
"I was going to say you, Steve." Y/N sighed.
Steve took a deep breath and consider his options hoping he wouldn't regret them later. Which made him pull over at the side of the road.
"Have you totally lost it?" Y/N panicked at the sudden change.
"Nope. Not totally. Not yet." Steve said getting out of the car.
Y/N was stunned by that but she mimicked Steve's actions and followed him.
Steve started pacing around becoming more nervous by the second. "Okay, what did you mean by that?"
Y/N was trying to figure out what the hell was happening right now. "By what?" she questioned.
"About me knowing you better than anybody else."
"Exactly what I said Steve. You know me, okay? and in a way that nobody else besides Robin ever has-"
Steve was starting to lose his patience, Y/N's oblivious nature frustrated him sometimes. "We're not talking about Robin right now, we're talking about me. I mean you can't keep up doing this to me, Y/L/N." he let out a breath he didn't realize he was kinda holding in.
Y/N was officially confused "Doing what?! what so I count on you and tell you secrets and suddenly-"
"And you call me in the middle of the night to pick you up, why?" Did he have to spell it out for her? It wouldn't surprise him if he did.
"I'm sorry that I called, I thought that I-"
"I'm not mad that you called me, I just want to know why you called me."
"You were the first person that I thought of Steve."
"And what does that mean Y/N/N?" This is it. This has to be it, thought Steve.
"It- it means…I guess it means that I can talk to you and that you're there for me."
Yeah, it wasn't, clearly, he would need to show her and that clueless mind of hers. "Don't you ever get tired of talking?" said Steve barely holding his thoughts together.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows so hard one would think they would have stayed like that forever. "No. No, I don't get tired of talking. I don't- no."
"I don't want to talk anymore."
"What are you trying to say, Steve? why are we standing here? I don't-"
Steve thought it was now or never. He rushed over to her, closing the remaining gap between them, and gave her the most tender yet passionate kiss either of them had ever experienced. Y/N was taken by surprise and at first, was in shock until she couldn't help it and melted into his lips and his embrace. It was heavenly after all.
---------------------------------------------------
One week later.
Everyone was waiting for Steve's birthday party. He complained but everyone was so persistent with doing something nice for him and the fact that they also crave some normal, monster-free activities.
"Oh, hey, look. There's Robin and Vickie." said Max with relief.
Lucas noticed. "Got the champagne?"
Robin smiled proudly at her accomplishment of getting the drinks while moving the bottle in the air. "Right here. Oop! Whoa. That was almost a disaster." she then took the bottle with both hands to prevent an accident that would end with the party not having some type of alcohol.
"Hey, guys."
"Hey." said the kids in unison. Pretty weird if you ask Robin.
"So, uh, where's Y/N? I thought she was coming with us." asked Max.
"She, uh, wanted to stop at the library and plow through that watergate history assignment."
Or....at least that's what she told Robin.
Because meanwhile in Steve's bedroom. A heavy makeout session was in the process. That has been happening a lot lately. And with a lot, I mean every day. Whenever they saw each other, they couldn't help but feel the deep attraction that was unlocked after that surprise kiss one week ago.
"Come on. Let's go, Steve." said Y/N between needy, sloppy kisses.
Steve only hummed and carried her to his desk so they could be more comfortable.
"It's your birthday party we're planning on going to." Y/N kept trying.
Finally, Steve found the strength to answer. "I have a birthday party?" he said mocking surprise.
"Mmm." the kisses just kept getting more determined which alarmed Y/N.
"No, we have to stop this. It's wrong." said Y/N with a whiny voice.
Steve was only partially listening. "Yes. Dead wrong."
While the brunette boy started kissing her neck, in between the pleasure she felt her overthinking mind also stepped in.
"Steve. Look, we've been in denial all week." she said moving him back a little so he would look at her.
"I mean, when we're around other people, we pretend like nothing's changed, and then the minute we're alone, it turns into this."
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. He truly was interested in what Y/N would say their relationship now was. "This what?"
Y/N thought for a second. "Well, this…embarrassing grope fest."
Steve hummed in agreement. "Yeah, I guess this is kind of embarrassing, huh? Especially for you, given how much you protested." he kissed her again.
Y/N kissed him back but then pulled him away smiling playfully. "I did not protest."
"You did too."
The kissing didn't stop until Steve backed down after his own overthinking.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait."
"What?" questioned Y/N.
Steve sighed. "I gotta tell her, Y/N/N. We do. We gotta tell her as soon as possible, because the longer we wait, Y/N/N, the worse it gets."
Y/N shook her head. "No, Steve. I've tried. I've tried plenty of times to--"
"Every time I see Robin now, I just feel like--"
"You don't have to bother filling in the expletive, okay?" said Y/N in a low voice.
"I mean, this isn't exactly the easiest thing I've ever had to do, Steve-- telling Robin that while she wasn't looking, I developed this bizarre gravitational pull towards her best friend, and I can't stop thinking about him or wanting to be near him or wanting to kiss him, all the time." And, the kissing started again. It was undeniable,
"I'll do it. I'll tell her." said Steve looking deep into her Y/E/C eyes to let her know he was serious.
Y/N thought about it for a second but then she shook her head again. "No, I can't let you do that. It's--this is my responsibility."
"Y/N/N, it's not your responsibility. I'm the one that started this, remember? I'm the one that got you into this situation. And, frankly, the only way that I want to save my friendship with Robin is to be completely honest with her, so I gotta do this. All I need is one day. Just one day."
Y/N decided to trust him. "One day."
"Yes." said Steve while kissing her forehead. "One day."
---------------------------------------------------
Steve waited outside Robin's window, hoping the strength to get in and see her would arrive. To many, this would seem a bit dramatic but given Steve's history with girls, Robin didn't want Y/N to be one of them and end up getting hurt, or, even the other way around. She hoped that it was possible for one straight boy and girl to remain only friends.
Taking him out of his thoughts, Steve noticed Nancy walking toward him.
"Hey."
"Hey, Steve." she said with an empathic voice.
She was the only one that knew what was going on between Y/N and Steve after Y/N needed some serious girl talk, she of course didn't mention Steve's name but Nancy figured it out in no time.
"Nobody home?"
"I don't know, actually." Steve mumbled.
"Could knock and find out."
Steve finally looked at her. "I could just walk right in, you know. They never lock it. I've been coming here, just walking right through the front door, making myself at home."
Nancy hummed at his response and notice how nervous he was. "She wants to be with you, Steve. She does." she said talking about Y/N of course.
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. "And you know this how?"
"Told me so this morning."
"Why am I not happy to hear that right now?" said Steve with a dry nervous chuckle.
"Well, because right now you've gotta walk through that front door and tell your best friend that the only girl in the universe she asked you to stay away from…"
"Is the same one that I can’t live without." Steve sighed.
"Yeah." said Nancy in an almost whisper-type voice feeling sorry for him.
"I've had this conversation with her in my head a thousand times."
"Yeah? how's it go?" said Nancy smiling a little.
"Oh, you know, Robin saying something along the lines of…"Vaya con Dios, Steve." She deserves a shot at being happy. Now…why don't you give it a try?"
Nancy kept smiling and nodding."It could happen. Just minus the spanish part."
Steve chuckled. "Yeah."
That was the first failed attempt at telling Robin the secret that was eating both of her best friends up.
---------------------------------------------------
Steve entered his house remembering he was also going to meet with Dustin.
Just two seconds later he noticed the curly hair boy. "Where the hell have you been?"
"Henderson, I'm sorry. Look, me and Y/N came to a really important decision." Oh right, Dustin also knew about Steve and Y/N little love fest.
Dustin looked surprised. "Woah woah woah wait, since when are you and Y/N deciding anything?"
Steve grinned. "You're gonna like this one, 'cause it turns out you were right. She's into me, man. That's why she got so freaked out when I kissed her."
"Really?" said Dustin with a doubtful tone.
"Yeah."
"So, then you told Robin?" Of course, he was going to ask that.
"Uh…no, not exactly. That's what I was trying to do all morning, Henderson. Remember the little errand that I had to run, but it just…turned into this wild goose chase, and… I didn't think it was going to take that long. I'm sorry."
Dustin decided to give him a piece of his mind now that things seemed to be getting more complicated.
"Look. Telling Robin that you kissed Y/N in a moment of weakness is a hell of a lot different than sneaking around with her behind her back, don't you think?" Dustin then sighed at Steve's sad eyes.
"Look, Steve, at the end of the day, Y/N and Robin, they're gonna stay friends or whatever it is that they are, and you're gonna end up alone. All right? no girlfriend, no friend, just completely and utterly alone. Think about it. I was right before, wasn't I?"
Even though it sounded cruel, they all know how sensitive the topic was for Robin. The party of course would support them and probably say "fucking finally" but Robin...she was in denial of all that chemistry.
---------------------------------------------------
Steve was walking to Robin's house determined on telling her and not backing down like earlier. But behind him running, was Y/N trying to catch him before he entered.
"Hey." Y/N grabbed his wrist and pulled this worried expression. She seemed upset too.
"Hey. Hey, Y/N/N, what's wrong?" said Steve while he hugged her trying to calm her breathing.
“Look, Steve…we can’t do this okay?"
"Can’t do what?" Steve questioned nerviously.
"I have to be the one to tell her, okay? I mean, things are really complicated between me and Robin, and it has nothing to do with you, it's just…look it has to come from me or else it is going to ruin everything." she said with the most anxious tone Steve had ever seen Y/N carry.
"Okay, okay, that's okay. Just calm down Y/N/N, it's alright. We'll do whatever you want to do okay?" he hugged her again.
"A sign of what?"
Steve decided to keep talking and see if that would calm her a little.
"I mean, you wanna know God's honest truths? I've been in the process of chickening out the whole way over here." he said chuckling lightly.
That only made Y/N overthink even more.
"Maybe is a sign, Steve."
Y/N didn't know if she should continue honestly but she thought Steve deserved the truth.
"It's just that for so long, she's been everything to me Steve, I mean this girl has been my family when I hadn't had one, and she's the one person in my life who I can always depend on and this, this is gonna kill her."
Steve then sighed, realizing something. "You never had any intention of telling her, did ya?" he then smiled. "You didn't come here tonight to tell her, you came here to stop me from doing-"
Y/N quickly cutted him off shaking her head. "No, I tried to tell her, I went up there and I tried-"
"Of course, you did but, let me guess, you failed right?"
After that Robin came out of the house. It seemed they weren't as discrete and quiet as they thought.
"I thought I heard something out here." she deadpanned.
FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED <3
so.... yeah. thinking of making part 2??

Over the years I have found that actors who are great friends for real life have the best chemistry onscreen. You can't manufacture that kind of chemistry. It's just natural. The physicality. The effortless comfortability they have around each other. The fire chemistry. These couples are James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill who were great friends for real and are still close to this day. They've been to many comic cons and the chemistry is still on full display at these events (Nathan and Haley), Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes from Dawson's Creek dated for real life and remained friends even after breakup. Josh said that Katie was his closest friend on set (Pacey and Joey), Jaleel White and Kellie Shanygne Williams from Family Matters were friends onset and Kellie recently said how she had a crush on Jaleel. They recently were reunited in an interview and their chemistry is still fire (Steve and Laura), Tom Welling and Erica Durance from Smallville were great friends. I love to hear Tom talk about Erica because there's clearly so much respect and love between them. They really loved to work with each other (Clark and Lois), Kennedy McMann and Alex Saxon from Nancy Drew are great friends. I don't know much else about their relationship. I just know that Kennedy has said they are close friends and also Kennedy is a big supporter of the Nace ship. I've also heard of little improvs and story ideas that they came up with for Nace so they clearly are very simpatico (Nancy and Ace), Erin Moran and Scott Baio from Happy Days dated on and off through the years (Chachi and Joanie), Rachel Brosnahan and Luke Kirby from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel are amazing friends. And this is another situation of two actors who really support each other and have a huge amount of respect for each other (Midge and Lenny) what all these couples have in common is that they are friends and/or romantically involved. One or both of the actors in each ship are major supporters or shippers of their characters together, they all have had amazing chemistry all through the years even after the shows ended, they all respect each other as actors and each other's talents, they all have fire chemistry that remained strong through the entire run of the shows, and insane physicality where they are so comfortable with each other and and great at adding little physical intimacies to their fictional relationships.
Some chemistry you can sort of manufacture. You can create the long looks, the stolen glances, the yearning, the jealousy. But then there's the upper echelon of TV couples that just have it all. They have all these things but the chemistry endures past the yearning stage 💖
Then there are some couples who maybe weren't overly close. They either hated each other or just got along but weren't super close and those couples mostly have that manufactured chemistry and I'm not saying that it doesn't take talent to do that. It takes acting talent and some of it is genuine. Also this chemistry is not bad. I love the long looks and the stolen glances but these types of couples need long ass slowburns because some of that naturally goes away when they get together like the yearning and stolen glances for instance. They don't have those crutches to fall back on and all they have is that little bit of genuine chemistry. I do wanna clarify that I have always hated when writers make couples on and off unnecessarily. Give them the slowburn but keep them together once they get together you cowards lol
There are other couples with insane chemistry who are close for real life but I had to end this post sometime but they exist and those are special ships to be sure! 💗

You know, I still think it’s hilarious that people think it’s a lie when it was said Rina has been planned since 105 when there’s an interview from season 1 where he said he felt the need to write towards Rina when he saw Josh and Sofia's chemistry in the car scene but also because Rina was foreshadowed in Ricky and Nini's own love confession scene on 110.
Gina confessing to Ricky right after Nini and Ricky got back together was filmed on S1 along with that scene, it was filmed as one sequence — what was supposed to be "Ricky and Nini's big moment" was also a pivotal moment for Ricky and Gina that started their angsty era. Tim had that in the bag since S1. During Ricky’s speech to Nini on opening night, he says "I don’t really know what happens tomorrow, or in two minutes when we walk out that door" and you know who happens to walk on there when Nini walks out? Gina. That’s an actual foreshadowing. Later, on 205 they used that very same speech for Gina. "Not matter what happens tomorrow, or the day after that, we just keep on dancing" with Ricky on frame.
The script for S2 was written before the off screen drama or Olivia blew up. The creator even says on another interview Nini and Ricky breaking up was an early decision and admits they were never meant to be endgame because he wanted to show how sometimes teenagers obsess over getting back together as a way to fix relationships and believes portraying healthy breaks up in teen TV is important. (source)
Its literally said they tried to use Gina as a plot device to get Nini and Ricky together but it was their chemistry that made him change his mind. He might have planned Nini and Ricky originally but he clearly saw he had gold in his hands with Ricky and Gina. This is basically Dawson/Joey/Pacey all over again. Dawson and Joey being the first original endgame until a creator saw the actors chemistry and decided to go with Joey/Pacey and who’s the iconic ship from Dawson's Creek after years? Exactly.

More Than Once ~Pacey Witter~
Tumblr media
summary: the 5 times you made pacey speechless + the 1 time he did the same to you
word count: 4.7k
pairings: pacey witter x reader
warnings: none, but if you find one, please do not hesitate to let me know
a/n: part 1 of my ‘countdown to christmas’ au bingo thing. I’ll be releasing a pre-written fic every day leading up to Christmas (I hope. if i miss a day, i'll post it eventually), where I will have another fic posted (again, I hope). also, i realized that there's very little pacey witter content on here and he actually deserves all the love
masterlist
The first time you made Pacey speechless was when you were new at school and stood up for him in class…
“I’m telling you, Pacey. This thing with Joey is amazing. Maybe we can set you up with someone.”
“You know, Dawson, that’d be great. But I just got out of this thing with Andie, and I don’t think I’ll even be ready for another girl anytime soon.”
“Suit yourself because yesterday, I met a girl who’d be perfect for you.”
“Thanks, but to me, there’s never gonna be another girl as perfect for me as Andie was.”
“Okay, whatever you say.” Dawson grabbed the book for his next class while Pacey was already on the way to his class.
When he sat down, he took the opportunity to look around at all the students. There was one that caught his eye. It was you. The way the sun lit up your hair made you stand out to Pacey. But it wasn’t enough to make him speechless. No. That happened towards the end of class.
“Mr Witter, will you come up here and share your essay with the rest of the class?”
“Why, sir?”
“I feel like your peers should be able to enjoy it as much as I did.”
“Okay then.” Pacey walked towards the teachers desk and grabbed the paper he was handed. As he began reading off his essay, he realized how ridiculous it sounded. And while all the students laughed along with the teacher, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. When he finished reading the essay, Mr Valdez stood up and walked next to him.
“Why didn’t you make anyone else read their essay?”
“As you can see, they have the same reactions to your essay that I did when I read it last night, Mr Witter. You didn’t understand the assignment. But I never really expected someone like you to get it anyway. How are going to make it out in the world if you can’t grasp the concept of a simple assignment? If you ask me, you’re just an error of the education system.”
“That’s not very nice.” You spoke up for the first time that period.
“Miss l/n, I suggest you sit down and not get involved in this.”
“How on Earth are you an educator when you treat a student poorly? Teachers are supposed to encourage their students to learn and grow. They’re supposed to help them when the student is struggling. For the record, I thought his essay was incredible and that he’s pretty damn brave to stand up here and get laughed at while only doing what he was asked to do. I know I’m new to this school and that I don’t know any of you but what I do know is that none of you would be brave enough to endure this ridicule from your peers, no matter how popular or confident you are. Nobody likes getting laughed at. You should be ashamed of yourselves.” You turned back to the teacher. “As for you, just because you’re a ‘teacher’ doesn’t mean you can take advantage of that power for your own personal agenda. Mr. Witter is not a mistake in the education system, you are.”
Pacey was truly speechless. The rest of the class just hung their heads in shame as they listened to Mr Valdez kick you out of class. You gathered your things and left. As you walked toward your locker, you heard footsteps behind you.
“Hey, wait up.” You heard Pacey’s voice after the footsteps stopped. “That was, uh, really cool what you did back there. Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it. Mr Valdez is kind of a prick, isn’t he?”
“Oh, you have no idea.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and smiled. “I’m Pacey, by the way.”
“Y/n.”
The second time Pacey speechless around you was when you helped him apologize to Joey, but it wasn’t the good kind of speechless…
Pacey walked into the room and collapsed on Dawson’s bed. You were there with them as well. It was the weekly movie night and ever since you stood up for Pacey in class a few months ago, they had accepted you into their group of friends.
You quickly became best friends with Jen after Pacey introduced you, and although you barely interacted with Jack, he became your friend as well. You didn’t really like Joey or Dawson all that much. So when it was announced that Dawson and Joey broke up, you weren’t very surprised. What really surprised you was when Joey and Pacey notified everyone they were dating. Not only did it surprise you, but it also kind of hurt you. Finding Pacey attractive was the first thing you felt when you saw him.
And then, when they broke up, the friend group was also forced to split up. Pacey got you and Dawson while Joey got Jack and Jen. It wasn’t right. And even though you weren’t fond of Joey, you wanted to find a way for everyone and everything to get back to normal.
“So, she just dumped you without an explanation? Nothing at all?” Dawson watched as his friend got up and began pacing. He had to pause to movie so he wouldn’t miss anything, despite having seen the movie a million times already.
“No. Not a word past ‘this is over pacey’. Like, what did I even do wrong? I know I’m not the most perfect person, but I was really trying for her.”
“I doubt it was your fault at all.” You looked between the two boys and sighed. “No offense, since you both dated her, but she doesn’t exactly strike me as the type of person to have any reasoning behind her choices. She also seems like the type of person who loves having all the attention on her. Just saying.”
“Honestly, that’s not far off. She enjoys having lots of attention on her. Not all of it, but most of it.” Dawson eyed Pacey as the boy had yet to speak up again. “Honestly, I don’t know why I ever dated her.”
“She’s not that bad, okay? She’s just been having a hard time recently.”
“Well if she’s having a hard time, then she should talk to someone about it and get some help. She shouldn’t be making other people’s lives hard too. And she’s been making my life a living hell just because I’m friends with you guys. She doesn’t like me and honestly, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with her right now.”
“Look, you guys, I know neither of you are fond of her at this point, but I could really use some help. I really care about her.”
“Okay, fine. I guess I can help you. I won’t like it, but I’ll do it.”
“Have I ever mentioned how awesome you are?” Pacey smiled at you and for a second, it made your heart melt. Until you realized he was only doing it for Joey.
“Oh yeah. You constantly remind me.” you replied sarcastically, causing Dawson to chuckle a little. “So how do you want to apologize to Joey? Thoughtful gifts? Grand gesture? Heartfelt speech?”
“A heartfelt speech sounds like a great idea. Will you write it for me?”
“I will help you write it, but I am definitely not writing it for you.”
“Alright, deal.” And with that being said, movie night was scrapped while you and Pacey tried to come up with an apology speech. After a few hours, the two of you had combined enough ideas to form a 4 page apology letter that Pacey decided he was going to deliver himself.
For the next few days, you watched as Pacey waited for Joey to accept his apology. But every time she saw him at school or around town, she would keep walking and Pacey would lose hope. It came to the point where you had to take matters into your own hands.
On Sunday morning, you went to the Potter house. When Joey answered the door, she rolled her eyes.
“What do you want?”
“I just wanted to know if you got Pacey’s letter.”
“Yeah I got it.”
“Great. So you can forgive him now, right?”
“I don’t think so. As soon as I read it, I knew most of it didn’t come from him.” She looked at you. “In fact, it kind of sounded like it came from someone who’s so desperate for attention that she would help her crush get back together with his girlfriend.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh please. It’s so obvious. And it has been since the day you two met.”
“Okay, maybe it was true before, but not anymore. He loves you, Joey. You make him happy. God knows why, but you do. I’ve never seen him so happy before.”
“What’s your point?”
“I know you don’t like me, but to be fair, I’m not particularly fond of you either.”
“Oh my god. Get on with it already. Why are you here?”
“Because Pacey is my best friend. He’s miserable without you, Joey.”
“Let him be miserable then. He knows what he did.” She went to close the door, but you put your hand out to stop it.
“He actually doesn’t know. He has literally no idea what he did or why you broke up with him. So if you won’t forgive him, can you at least explain why you broke up with him? He’s a good guy and he really tries. Pacey deserves to be happy. And if it’s because of something I did, you don’t have to worry about me. He and I are just friends, I swear on my life to you, Joey.”
“If I promise to talk to him, will you leave me alone about it?”
“Of course.”
“Fine. I’ll talk to him later. Goodbye.” This time, she managed to shut the door with a little bit of force.
The next day, you didn’t see either of them at school, so you assumed they made up and slept in. It was around lunchtime when you finally saw Pacey. He snuck up on you as you were putting your books in your locker.
“Where have you been? You missed a couple of assignments in class. Mr Valdez was not happy.”
“I didn’t think so.” He sighed and put his hands in his pockets, a thing you noticed he did when he was nervous or about to tell someone bad news. “Hey, listen. I got back with Joey.”
“Really? That’s awesome.”
“There was one rule though.”
“And what was that?”
“That I can’t talk to you anymore.” He whispered loud enough for you to hear. Before you could even respond, he walked away.
The third time you made him speechless was when you stood up for Jack against his father, despite not knowing Jack very well …
It was almost a whole month before you and Pacey talked again. Your science teacher handed out an assignment for you two to work on. At first it was awkward, due to none of you talking, but halfway through the class, it was as if everything went back to normal.
“So, uh, how are things with you and Joey? They going alright?”
“Yeah. Yeah of course. Thanks again for your help.”
“No problem. You deserve to be happy and I’m glad she came to her senses.”
“So do you.” He wrote something about the experiment down on his paper and looked back at you. “We were all thinking about going to the movies tonight as a group and our group isn’t whole without you. Wanna come?”
“Yeah sure.”
“Okay, cool. Dawson’s driving Jen and I’m going to pick up Jack before I pick Joey up. Wanna tag along with me?”
“Sure. I miss Jack.”
“Awesome. Meet me outside your house at 6.”
The bell rang shortly after, signaling the end of the day, so you rushed home to get ready. When 6 o’clock came, Pacey was already outside waiting in his truck when you walked out. You climbed into the truck, and he headed towards Jack’s house. When he pulled into the driveway, you got out and went to knock on the door. Mr McPhee opened it and eyed you for nearly a whole minute.
“Hi. Um, is Jack ready?”
“Not yet. Why don’t you come in and wait for him?”
“Okay.” You took a step into the foyer of the McPhee home while Mr McPhee closed the door.
“So where are you and Jack going tonight?”
“We’re going to the movies.”
“Oh, what fun.” He smiled. “It’s so nice to finally see his interest in girls is showing. It’s way better than who he was interested in before.”
“What? You mean guys?”
“Of course. It’s just unnatural.”
“No, it’s not. What’s unnatural is the way that you, a parent, are treating your child. There’s nothing wrong with who Jack is. Absolutely nothing. He is the sweetest human being I’ve ever met and as far as I’m concerned, you don’t deserve to have him call you dad. You’re lucky to have Jack in your life so if I were you, I would not take him for granted and accept him for who he is. Love him with all your heart, unconditionally. Act like a parent is supposed to. You’re the only one he has.”
“Hey, y/n. Let’s go.” Jack grabbed your arm and pulled you outside. When you got in the truck, Pacey looked between the two of you.
“What took you so long in there?”
“Well I-“
“She just yelled at my dad for not accepting who I am.”
“Really? Wow.”
“You should’ve heard her, man. She was incredible.” Jack smiled at you. “Thank you so much for that. You know you didn’t have to do it, but I really do appreciate it.”
“I had to do it. He was being incredibly rude. You’re his son and he should treat you with love and care.”
“We’re really lucky you found this girl, Pacey.”
All Pacey did was look over at you and smile.
Pacey was speechless for a fourth time when you called Dawson out on his behavior …
Dawson was never one to really put anyone else’s feelings before his own. It was the main reason you didn’t like him. He treated al his friends like garbage, but nobody ever really called him out on it. On more than one occasion, he ignored Pacey’s problem and complained about one of his movies. He took both Jen and Joey for granted when he dated them both.
However, the worst treatment of anyone came around Pacey’s birthday. Pacey only wanted his closest friends to have a nice little dinner, but Dawson wanted to throw his friend a huge party. Not only did he decide to throw the party, but he did it at his place without his dads knowledge. Wrong on so many levels.
And then he started talking about his feelings for Joey to Pacey, who was still her boyfriend. Most of the night, whenever Pacey would try to talk to someone, Dawson would make a scene and do something incredibly dangerous and stupid.
To be fair, most of his actions at the party could be categorized as him simply just being drunk. But either way, his behavior recently was nowhere near desirable. And you’d had enough of it. So when Dawson took the attention away from Pacey once again, you had to speak up.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” you scoffed as Dawson stood up on the dining room table.
“Oh here we go again.” Dawson chuckled and rolled his eyes. “Look, I don’t know what your problem is but if you don’t want to be at the party, you could always leave.”
“I’m not going to leave my friends party. That’s right. I said my friend. It’s not your party, Dawson. Yet somehow you managed to take the fun and joy out of it by making all about you. And surprise, surprise. It’s not even the first time this has happened. For months, you’ve treated your friends like garbage. I don’t want to know how you treated them before, but I imagine it was also horrible. You took Jen and Joey for granted when you dated them and you’ve been telling Pacey all night that you want Joey back Like, how ridiculous do you have to be to ruin your best friends night by telling him you’re planning to get back together with HIS girlfriend?”
“y/n, really it’s okay.”
“No, it’s not okay. It’s about time someone calls him out on his behavior. It’s not funny and it’s just overall horrible. Why do you people put up with it?” when nobody answered you, you just shook your head and left. Pacey was truly at a loss for words. He was also proud that, even though you barely knew Dawson, you were brave enough to call him out.
The fifth time Pacey was speechless was prom night …
Prom being right around the corner was not nearly as exciting as you had hope. You spent 2 and a half years at the school and the only reason that prom wasn’t exciting for you was because you hadn’t been in a relationship since you transferred. You weren’t alone though. Everyone in your group of friends was also single.
Originally, you all planned to go to prom together as a group but then Jack came up with the idea of going in pairs with the person in the group who was the least like you. And that meant you and Dawson would be going together.
Over the last 2 years, Dawson changed. It was a little at first but after a few months, he seemed like a whole new person. You both apologized for what happened at Pacey’s party a few years ago and the road to your friendship was finally being paved.
When the day of prom finally arrived, you spent all day getting ready and when Dawson arrived to pick you up, he gave you a genuine smile.
“You know the guys are gonna be all over you.”
“Thanks, but that’s doubtful.”
“Well, I’m pretty positive that Pacey won’t be able to take his eyes off of you.”
“What?”
“Well it’s certainly no secret that he thinks you’re attractive. I’m just stating a fact.”
“So, if you’re stating a fact, does that mean you think I’m attractive too? Or is it just the fact that apparently Pacey does?”
“Well, let me put it this way. You’re not ugly.”
“That’s actually very uplifting. Thanks, Dawson.”
When he pulled up to the school, you got out carefully and waited for him. He held out his arm, which you happily took, and walked in the building together.
“Doesn’t look like any of our friends are here yet. Wanna just sit for a while?” Dawson looked over at you and followed when you headed for a table. “I’m gonna go grab us something to drink. I’ll be right back.”
You looked around the crowded room and made eye contact with Jack. He walked over to you and sat down in the chair next to yours. Joey followed and sat next to him.
“Wow. That dress looks amazing.” Jack smiled.
“I can’t believe I’m actually going to say this, but you really do look beautiful, y/n.” Joey smiled too.
“Thanks. You look beautiful too, Joey.” You smiled back at her and looked at Jack. “And you look very handsome, Jack.”
“Thanks.” He smiled and looked around the room. “Where’s Dawson?”
“He went to go get some drinks, but he should be back soon.”
As if it was his cue, Dawson sat down and handed you a cup of punch. “Wow, Joey. You look amazing.”
“Thank you, Dawson. You don’t look so bad yourself.”
Dawson looked around your small group and smiled. “We all clean up very well.”
“Does the same go for Jen and Pacey?” Jack waved to the other 2 as they walked in. Jen smiled and made her way to the table while Pacey took his time. The second you came into his sightline, he stopped walking. He fought every urge inside him that was telling him to turn and run the way he came. Instead, he slowly took the seat between Joey and Jen, his sight anywhere but you. Turns out Dawson was wrong.
The night was filled with laughter and dancing, mostly from the other students. Everyone at your table spent most of the night just talking, or in Pacey’s case, avoiding you at all costs. Although you did dance with Jack at one point and goofed around with the girls and Dawson as well.
When it came time for the final song, Dawson asked Joey to dance, and Jack took Jen’s hand. You were left with Pacey and the silence coming from him gave you the worst feeling.
“What’s your problem?”
“Excuse me?”
“Why have you been ignoring me all night?”
“I have not been ignoring you. I’ve just been occupied with other stuff.”
“Oh really? Like what? You haven’t moved from your seat, and you barely talked to anyone. What could’ve possibly had your attention all night?”
“You.”
“Me?”
“Yeah, you and your freaking dress, okay? You look so good and it’s ridiculous.”
“How is it ridiculous?”
“You’re here with my best friend and you’re my ex-girlfriends enemy. It’s not exactly a good time to bring it up.”
“You know Dawson and I are only here together because it was Jack’s idea, right? There’s nothing going on between us, at all. He’d have to be the last man on Earth. And as for Joey, things aren’t as bad as they were before. She even complimented me earlier, and we danced too. It’s not like we’re still enemies.”
“Well still. It’s not fair that you get to look as amazing as you do, and I can’t say anything about it.”
“You actually think I look amazing?”
“Of course I do. It’s all I’ve been thinking about all night.”
“Maybe we should join our friends on the dance floor before we lose our opportunity.” You stood up and  held out your hand, but he just looked at it.
“Are you sure?”
“Look around, Pacey. We’re the only ones still at a table. There’s one song left, and you haven’t danced at all. So please, come dance with me.” this time, he took your hand. As he lead you out to the dance floor, you couldn’t help but feel the eyes of your friends watching you. They looked at each other and smiled. The plan they came up with had worked.
The one time he took the words out of your mouth was the day of graduation …
A week after prom was graduation. You spent all day with Jen and Joey, picking out what to wear, doing your makeup and talking about boys.
“So, you and Dawson seem to be getting back on track. How’s that going?” you asked Joey as you looked through Jen’s closet for a perfect dress.
“Things between us have never been better. But that’s not the relationship I wanna talk about right now. You and Pacey seemed to finally notice each other in a new light. How’s that going?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, please. Even I noticed it.” Jen smiled and pulled out a blue dress. “He stopped in his tracks the seconds his eyes landed on you in that dress. I think it was love.”
“Pacey and I don’t love each other. You’re being crazy.”
“Dude, he’s had a crush on you for almost 3 years.”
“If he has a crush on me, then why did he date you, Joey?”
“I honestly think it was a distraction. He talked about you all the time. That’s why I broke up with him the first time. And honestly, I was never really as in love with him as I pretended to be.”
“Well if you didn’t love him that much, why did you tell him he couldn’t talk to me anymore?”
“I never said he couldn’t talk to you anymore. That must’ve been his own choice.”
“Oh. Yeah, that makes me feel so much better now.” You shook your head and finally decided on a dark green dress that fell just blow your knee. Knowing you had to see Pacey later just got a whole lot more complicated.
The ceremony went as expected, slow and boring. And the graduation party at Dawson’s place was only slightly better. A little more entertaining, but it was passing by painfully slow. Of course everyone was at the age where they could almost get away with underage drinking, so that’s what most of the people were doing.
When Pacey managed to get everyone’s attention, you knew something even more entertaining was about to happen. At this point, he had already consumed a beer or two so whatever came out of his mouth was going to be incredibly ridiculous.
“Hey, everybody. Listen up please. I have something important to say.”
“Then say it, Witter.”
“Okay.” He took a sip of his drink and continued to speak. “Most of my life, I’ve felt like a failure compared to my brother. My father always pointed out my flaws and never really said he was proud of me. This belief that I wouldn’t amount to anything followed me all the way through school. I never believed I’d be smart enough to graduate. But here I am now. I’m a high school graduate. And that’s because everything changed sophomore year. I was not doing so great in my classes and sometimes, the work I submitted felt ridiculous. But one day, an angel appeared. She had my back, even though she had never met me before. Her attitude is what got me through the rest of high school, and I no longer worried about being good enough in school. No. I’ve spent the better part of 3 years trying to convince myself that I’d be good enough for her. And even now, I’m still not sure that I am. She is the best person I have ever met. She was nice to people who weren’t very nice to her, and she tolerated a lot of crap from pretty much everyone she met. There is not a better person alive than y/n and let me tell you guys something. I think I’ve been in love with this girl my whole life, despite having only known her for almost 3 years.” He got off the chair he was standing on and approached you. Everyone’s eyes on you suddenly made you feel hyper aware of the situation. “I know I haven’t been the greatest friend recently, but I really want to change that. You have no idea how hard it was to stop talking to you before. You didn’t deserve to be treated that way, so I’ll understand completely if you don’t have the same feelings for me.”
Everyone turned to look at you as you struggled to find the words to respond. Jen looked at you sympathetically while Pacey looked upset.
“I-I don’t really know what to say, Pacey.”
“It’s okay. I understand.”
“I mean, I do like you. A lot. But you’ve been drinking. Maybe we should have this conversation tomorrow when you’ll actually remember it.”
“But I’m not drunk, honestly. And I’ve never been this truthful in my life. I was scared to admit it to myself that I had these intense feelings for you. And now I’ve admitted it in front of our friends. Nothing is scarier to me than being vulnerable. And that’s what I am right now. Do you really think I’d put myself in this position if I wasn’t speaking the truth? Just trust me. Say you’ll go on a date with me. That’s all I’m asking. Just one date.”
“Okay fine. One date, Witter.”
The date went well. You found yourself becoming more and more speechless around Pacey the longer you two were together. He just had that power.

Welp, I'm back to work next week, which means things will come slower. But Naked Next will be done by then, and most everything else below is in the last quarter of the fic, so maybe I'll learn my lesson and work on fewer at a time during the school year?
Nah.
Thank you to @ileadacharmedlife, @palimpsessed, @blackberrysummerblog, @wellbelesbian, @hushed-chorus, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe, @ivelovedhimthroughworse, @nightimedreamersghost, @larkral, @j-nipper-95, @aroace-genderfluid-sheep, @prettygoododds, @whatevertheweather, @shrekgogurt and @artsyunderstudy for the tags this week. Y'all are enablers and I love you for it.
From my COTTA 2023: Snow Fox
Penny
Simon slips in and out of my life like the animal he’s been named after. I never know when he’ll show up, and, once he does, I never know how long I’ll get to have him around.
We’ve been best friends from childhood, but I can’t help but feel that he’s leaving me behind.
When my younger brother Pacey shows up in a continental army uniform, however, I’m ready to kick Simon’s arse…metaphorically. Maybe.
“Why will he take a fifteen year old but not me?” I rage to my husband. To his credit, Shepard doesn’t bring up my gender or societal expectations. He’s known my feelings on the war effort since this whole thing started. I don’t want to sit on the sidelines and knit socks. I want to fight side by side with my best friend.
And then, to enlist my baby brother!
From: The Naked Next (Final chapter!):
“Captain…I…I know I have limited time before this infection makes me lose all…function.” I know, looking back, I’ll be appalled at the manic giggles that escape me each time I lose track of what I’m saying. “Lieutenant Grimm-Pitch told you about the…virus…the effects…and cause?”
“Overheating, mania, impulsivity, lowered inhibitions…” she ticks off on her fingers.
“Yes!” I shout, and again wince. Concentrating hard on controlling my volume, I say, “Like, for instance…right now…I find you very…very…but I need to focus.”
“You find me very what, Doctor?” she snaps.
From my Age of Sail AU:
I let myself drop back to the ground and close my eyes. For a few minutes, I think of nothing much. Instead I let my mind drift while my senses absorb this new world. I feel the sand, warm and gritty under my back. The sea breeze lifting the drying tendrils of my hair, which tickles my forehead. The ocean lapping at my heels every time a wave rolls in. I smell salt, much as I’m used to, but I also smell thriving plant life. I hear the crash of the waves on the shore, above all, but under it I hear tiny rustlings, creaks and chirps. Life, bright and vibrant, all around me. I let my lips turn up in a faint smile.
From Saving Simon Snow:
I know for a fact that mage marriages don’t give a Normal partner any magic. I know because I asked Penny about it once. I had a sort of theory that one of my parents was a mage and the other parent left them, taking me with them. I figured that, then, if the Normal parent died, the mage parent would have had no way to find me.
“Impossible,” Penny had said.
“Why impossible?” I whined. I was desperate back then to prove that I did actually come from magic. That I wasn’t really a Normal. This was just one of many scenarios my brain came up with. Penny shot down every one.
“It’s impossible, Simon, because a Normal could never have hidden you from a mage parent. No hiding place on earth is proof against a finding spell.”
She was right. In a last, feeble attempt to save my theory, I said, “maybe the magic of the marriage bond gave the Normal spouse enough magic to hide me?”
Penny scoffed. “That’s not what marriage bonds do, Simon.” And then she lectured me for an hour on all of the known marriage bonding spells and their exact effects. I gave up. My theory had been completely shattered by Penny’s implacable facts.
But if marriage bonds can’t give magic to a Normal, what the fuck is going on?
From To Heal A Broken Mind:
Simon
Baz is quiet for the entire drive to mine and Penny’s flat. Too quiet. And he won’t look at me. He doesn’t understand that this is the best thing, the only thing. He’s got his work, and my lifespan might be measured in days.
I took advantage of my time alone with Doctor Davies to ask him the questions Baz has been weaselling out of answering.
The doctor told me I’ve got a three percent chance of dying on the table, and a sixteen percent chance of having brain issues after it. So, even if I survive the surgery, I might not be the Simon Baz  knows anymore. And if [redacted]…my chances of survival drop to thirty percent.
I won’t drag Baz down with me. Better a clean break now than lingering heartbreak later.
From Westward Son:
Snow does fine in the chill air. He’s layered a heavy coat over his usually homespun shirt and trousers, but after a few hours walking each day, he’s warm enough to unbutton it and let it hang open over his sweaty chest. He’s always run hot.
I’m not so lucky. I’ve started piling on every sweater and jacket I own each morning, along with three pairs of trousers over my long underwear (the outer ones are Simon’s, because my own wouldn’t be loose enough). And still I shiver through the day. I can tell Simon is worried about me, but there’s nothing he can do while one of us has to lead the oxen. At night by the campfire, he can help by wrapping his wings around me, but the wings tend to frighten the oxen when he opens them, so he has to keep them folded under his coat during the day.
I worry about him in turn because he’s thinner than I’ve ever seen him. I can see every muscle and tendon in his body because there’s no spare fat on him anywhere. I know why he’s so poorly; I’ve seen him sneaking parts of his rations to the children, and I love him for it.

More thoughts and a little theory about Dawson's Creek
This intrigues me so much. I keep thinking about it and I'm happy I'm not the only one.
Tumblr media
This could be about a lot of things: Will and Mike, our world and the UD, and different timelines.
But why Dawson and Pacey? SPOILERS ON DAWSON'S CREEK
I have a theory. Many people thought that Dawson's Creek was about the love story of Dawson and his childhood friend, Joey. That they were endgame. But that's not what happens. Joey ends up with Pacey (the right choice, imo). So maybe the magnet means that the audience thinks that Mike and El will be together forever, but in the last season they'll reveal that Mike's love is Will.
So, Dawson doesn't end up with his childhood friend, but Mike does. I love it.
But these circles are definitely not just about Byler.
In Suzie's room there is a poster of the Constellations of the two Hemispheres, that looks a lot like the drawing. It's also important, imo, that they're talking about finding Nina, and that in S3 Suzie gave Dustin the constant to retrieve the two keys that could turn off the russian machine and close the gate.
Tumblr media
The Constellation in the southern Hemisphere can be seen from Australia, which is called 'the land down under'.
Down under. Upside Down. @shippingfangirl013 noticed that this mention of Australia in S1 is probably a reference to the UD.
Tumblr media
In fact, a few episodes later El uses the radio to channel Will in the UD
Tumblr media
We can also see the word Explorer on Dustin's shirt in those scenes. Another connection with Vecna and the UD. In 4x07 and 4x09 One/Vecna says that he became an explorer. And Karen says that Holly is quite the explorer, after she sees the Demogorgon in the wall.
Tumblr media
So, the two circles probably represent our world and the Upside Down. But since we still don't know what the Upside Down and Dimension X are, exactly, they could also refer to different timelines.
Other things that remind me of the two circles.
Two fans behind Dustin, when he throws a knotted bed sheet through the gate, "connecting" the two worlds.
Tumblr media
And THIS scene, noticed by @chirpsythismorning
(her screenshots)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe that Twelve is Will (or represents Will's role in the story), and that Will and El are twins, so I find it extremely interesting that Brenner says 'If you leave your circle' (you lose) when Twelve is in the frame
Tumblr media
And that the game starts with Two and Six. 2x6=12
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe Brenner's line is a hint about what happened when Will vanished from our world left his circle and ended up in the UD?
Much to think about.

rewatching the Dinotopia 13-episode miniseries and just wanted to say I concur with a lot of your takes. Hopefully it's ok to infodump about it in your askbox?
26 is adorable and heart-stealing (as is Karl's love for her) and she still looks so lifelike even after 20 years since the show's airing--the combination of lower-tech puppetry and higher-tech animatronics just hits perfectly. I just want to hold her and carry her around and tickle her little head. I feel weird calling her 'lifelike' considering none of us have seen Chasmosaurs(sp?) in the flesh, but the way she blinks and shakes her head and squeals just feels authentic somehow?
'Contact' is one of my favourite episodes as well, as it legitimises this version of Karl who in earlier episodes risked coming across as trivial/annoying/shallow (I love this Karl fwiw, more than the previous 'better' series' take). The connection between Karl & Gracie is so touching and raw, and it seems like the most important thing that happened to Karl at that stage in his life, as well as a turning point in the way he relates to female peers. While I am a fan of Karl's himbo side, I appreciated seeing him finally show expertise and determination in something other than mixing drinks and flirting and wheeler-dealing, as well--after all, he's Frank's favourite son and an adventurer in his own right, why shouldn't he be capable? (we also saw his resourcefulness in 'Lose & Found').
As for Lesage, your thoughts about her past relationship with Rosemary really have me thinking as well. The reference to their fling was so fleeting that I missed it first time around, but it's definitely critical to understanding both their characters imo. Lesage definitely seems the free-spirited fiery rebellious type to run off with a woman to have sapphic adventures in the wild, even if it took said sapphic partner to bring that out of her (and it's SO interesting that Rosemary was *Lesage's* closet key). What would Dinotopia make of lesbians disrupting their natural order and their status quo? (upon which they rely for their coveted peace...) The mind reels. And I agree about the relief and pleasant surprise that this mature dark woman wasn't 'tamed' or domesticated in the storyline's conclusion, it would have been so banal if the series went that route. She clearly isn't the type who wants a traditional family, a secure home or a regular Joe older man with kids.
That said, I must confess to wanting Lesage coupled with David, as I've noticed that from their very first meeting there is deliberate tension and foreshadowing included to put them in a shippy light, and their personalities/chemistry really spark and pop off the screen more than any other pairing (probably why the actors/character got a 2-hander episode to themselves?). Also, in-keeping with 'Lesage does what she wants and breaks the mold', I think Lesage would LIVE for scandalising Dinotopia by taking their Skybax Squadron Commander/favourite Offworlder and seducing him. David for his part would go willingly I think, as he seems captivated and chagrined by Lesage, more than he is by Marion (who imo he *wants* to want and thinks he should want romantically/sexually, but deep down doesn't). David for his part clearly needs a challenge and a foil to get the most out of his life, and Lesage offers that in spades. Where are the fics is what I wanna know
Am still combing over a few of the episodes in more detail, but overall I enjoy it so much despite all the inaccuracies and how off-model and off-book it is, and for the time you can see how it broke some new ground. It's pacey, it's a good time, it's got a little bit of everything from drama to adventure to fantasy to anarchohistory/steampunk. The story and characters remind me of Xena in the way you can read them in a campy/fun way or a serious way, and it works either way. Idk why it isn't on streaming and remastered, though the selfish gatekeeping part of me is kind of glad it's not exposed like that..
Always ok!
I do wish we got more of 26 in The Cure Part 2 that wasn't plot-mandated immobility, because that small bit at the end of Part 1 where she's doing her little scamper around on modern sidewalks is such a cute and defining moment for the series and I would've loved to see her run around through crowds or make an escape through the museum. I'd say even her CGI is some of the best-looking now, probably because of working with an easier scale (although I feel like dated CGI is always going to look like dated CGI, and so try to judge it more on whether or not it emotionally connects, and 26 definitely does).
They say it like "Chasmiosaur" in the show but the dinosaur is spelled Chasmosaur/Chasmosaurus. It's real interesting that both the live-action and book versions of Dinotopia used lesser-known ceratopsians instead of the obvious triceratops.
Agreed on Karl, sketchy/sleazy relationship drama is SO not my thing and I'd say I was only tolerating it for the dinosaurs, but the way this show does it is just so over-the-top that I can't help but be at least a little entertained. Night of the Wartosa is fun to watch in an uncomfortable train wreck sense, because we see Karl at his worst and it's so agonizing, but at the end of the day it's self-aware, it's intended as a wake-up call, and we're meant to be rooting for him to become a better person and laughing at him along the way. And by Contact, we're shown he can be serious when it counts, and his story takes a deeper turn into the heartfelt that solidifies his arc.
Since it's Hallmark, I'm sure they'd find a way to make even the dinosaurs scandalized by anything non-straight. "Why yes, our ancient society founded primarily by non-humans, with its own code of conduct distinct from other world philosophies, has the same puritan sensibilities as early 2000s daytime television." I guess there's a small chance the show actually did mean they only considered themselves sisters, and that very obvious pause didn't mean anything at all, I guess we'll never know *shrug* (but since it was a show cancelled after one season, I'm gonna say that from the 2020s we can go ahead and retroactively assume it must've had lesbians).
Freely admit that if I didn't pick up on anything hinting LeSage/David, it's probably because I only really have shipping goggles for f/f relationships, and also carry around the associated 'just friends' goggles for what are often clearly intended het pairings. To each their own, I suppose, and to both of us, the tragedy of liking a piece of media that very few people have ever seen, and even fewer have seen in any way that made them think of it positively. Highly doubt the internet 20 years after the fact would have much appreciation for my 'LeSage x pachycephalosaurus chariot driver OC' daydream musings but you can bet that's probably what I'm thinking about every time I hear "Fast Car."
Oh, if this show was on streaming, people would expect WAY too much from it. It's in the backwoods of Youtube and on cheap DVDs, and I feel like that's it's natural habitat. I can only really imagine people truly liking this if it's a formative memory, they found it in some obscure corner on a rainy day and gave it a chance only half-seriously, or the rare case where they wanted to watch a dinosaur show enough to turn it on but were secretly looking for... this. It's such a fun time, but I feel like for most, you'd need to know what you're in for or it just won't click.

How would you describe the difference between bickering and banter? I know they’re different I just sometimes have difficulty recognizing it fully.
When you watch a scene with banter, it should feel like you're watching tennis or ping pong, there should be this rhythm of back and forth, back and forth, and it's evenly matched so no one's dropping the ball, it should be engrossing dialogue even if there isn't a lot of it, and it's not necessarily playful. Tess and Danny in Ocean's 11, when I saw this as a kid, that's when I was beginning to realize what banter looks like onscreen and that's when I realized I wanted to write stuff like this
youtube
even Watson and Holmes, this is called their bickering scene and they are bickering but it's also banter, which is why it's hilarious because Watson is bickering and Sherlock is bantering ("uh, we have a barter system") and that's the point because they're both approaching the conversation in two very ways, from two very different mindsets
it's characters sizing each other up with their words so just watch screwballs. Cary Grant. I always go to His Girl Friday but there's also The Philadelphia Story (and many others)
youtube
and it can be playful and flirtatious -- and again, they're only saying one word back and forth but the delivery, the rhythm, the smoothness, the fact that the conceit IS that it's only one word back and forth, that's banter
youtube
Bickering is sniping, it's squabbling, it's frustration and irritation, which can be playful
youtube
or it can be a powder keg of tension that isn't a fight or an argument but it's a quarrel, which can still be very funny but the two people aren't sizing each other up or bothering being witty, there isn't a smoothness, a slickness, it's petty and childlike
youtube
like even Pacey and Joey sharing a bed, it's their sexual and romantic tension but they're not smooth about it or witty about it, it's this

Number four.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Fem! Reader (no physical descriptions)
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve and Y/N worry about their future together after high school. (Hope that's a good enough summary...)
Word count: 2,9k
Warnings: Based in season 2 Steve, Nancy and Steve never dated, underage drinking, drunk reader, Steve being kind of a douche, little angst?? Mostly fluff though. Also, like one curse word. (English is NOT my first language)
A/N: Hi! So, this is my first fic…I´m very excited but also super nervous. I wanted to write this because Steve reminds me a lot of Pacey Witter, one of my favorite characters ever so I thought I would do a Dawson´s Creek episode homage to a scene I love so, yeah, anyway…hope you guys enjoy! <3
Steve Harrington or King Steve as many in Hawkins High are used to calling him, he's the kind of guy to make someone nervous just by his mere presence, and don't even think about him talking to you because you will probably be left frozen to even respond. He's got the looks too, a high school version of Tom Cruise if you will, with that award-winning smile and hair that could possibly get its own talk show, Steve Harrington was the envy of many boys and girls in Hawkins.
However, Steve here was good at keeping secrets. Like the fact that he didn't like his friends and it was all a big status charade, that he and his parents never had a good relationship which made him feel lonely every time he was at his house, and that he might be the most popular guy in high school but that didn't mean it would get him out of it, high school I mean, because that's right, he keeps his below-average grades a secret from everyone. Well, maybe not everyone. There is, of course, Y/N L/N. Steve Harrington's girlfriend. When people talk about opposites attract, they might as well be talking about Steve and Y/N and their relationship. Y/N has always been a straight-A student and even if she won't admit it, she is pretty much a goody two shoes. You will never see her skipping class, except for that one time when it was Steve's birthday and she wanted to do something special and even then, she took her time to justify herself, it was his 18th birthday after all. Totally worth it, because believe it or not, Steve and Y/N are in for the long haul. They are pretty much attached to the hip at this point, and everyone knows they are Hawkins High class of '84 couple.
That brings us to the present. March 18th, 1984.
Y/N was sitting in her favorite coffee shop with her best friend, Nancy Wheeler. They were both drinking their not too hot, not too cold coffees. Nancy could see that Y/N was not fully present, she was most likely overthinking, she's aware that school for a senior can be hard in these couple of months; so close to graduating and not being able to get enough sleep for it.
“You shouldn't stay up all night stressing about college, you'll get in some place great. They'll give you tons of financial aid, and everything will be perfect” said Nancy trying to ease her friend's nerves that could be easily pointed out by how she was furrowing her eyebrows this whole time.
Y/N sighs looking down at her now empty coffee cup. “Yeah that's what I thought too…until yesterday.” you could tell something was really eating her up inside.
“What happened yesterday?”
“I had a meeting with the new college advisor.”
Y/N started doing that face she does when she's a little embarrassed, you know, the one where she gets her lips turning slightly up making her cheeks look even fuller. It was adorable really, not that she would ever think that though.
“So?” Nancy was waiting for Y/N to drop the bomb on her already.
While Y/N was having trouble addressing the issue until she finally said it. “I'm fourth.”
Now Nancy was trying to figure out what she meant by that. “Fourth? Four- Fourth in your class?” Nancy gasped with so much excitement that some heads turned to their table with confusion. “Y/N! That´s amazing!”
“Yeah…it's amazing…but Nancy, all the places that I thought I wanted to apply to, they're looking for people who are number four, and they're you know, concert violinists or they won the Westinghouse science prize, or they're legacies like Heather. I mean…maybe I shouldn't even bother, I--I'd probably just be wasting the application fees.”
“Come on, Y/N/N, your defeatist attitude has to go.” Nancy hated seeing her friend doubt herself like this. “What does Steve say?” she added.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows even more, if that's even possible. “Steve is barely going to graduate, I can't exactly cry on his shoulder about my tragic lack of extracurricular activities. If I tell Steve how stressed I am, he's just going to think that I'm this pathetic, whiny crybaby, you know?”
To be clear, Y/N wasn't a snitch but Nancy happened to be one of the best math tutors around in school and she always found out what students needed help, that's when she saw Steve's name, and…well she pretty much got in on the secret.
Later that week
“Look, going to one of these schools could open opportunities you've always dreamed about, right?
“Yes.” said Y/N with no hesitation in her voice.
“So, your dreams are your dreams, Y/N. You can't apologize for them. Just talk to him. You'll probably find out they're his dreams, too.”
Steve and Y/N were studying at Steve's place. Y/N wanted to help her boyfriend with his schoolwork and be ready for anything in the process. Steve, on the other hand, was just happy he got to spend some extra time with his girl.
They have been studying for a little bit over an hour now, it's around 6 in the afternoon and Steve couldn't ditch the feeling that something was bothering her. He thought that in a couple of minutes she would be talking all about it but when she kept re-reading the same page of her English book report he realized she probably wasn't. Therefor, Steve knew he needed to know what was wrong and if he could possibly help. He always felt like he owed Y/N a lot, him always thinking that she deserves better or that she's too good for him happen to be one of his deepest concerns. Of course, she doesn't feel that way in the slightest but what can I say, they are both very stubborn people. While Steve was thinking about all of this for the third time this day, he didn't realize he was staring, which of course she noticed, that's when she finally had enough.
Y/N sighs. “I found out yesterday that I'm fourth. My class rank. I'm fourth.”
“If I tell you what's bothering me, will you promise not to laugh at me, or tell me I'm insane or insist that I should just get over myself?”
As Steve got out of his thoughts, he couldn't help but smile at her nervous tone. “I think I can probably do that, yeah,” he said with a warm and inviting voice.
Steve without a second thought to his previous promise, chuckles “That's your problem? That's not a problem. If anything, that's a reason to quit studying.”
“I don't even know why I bother. I knew you wouldn't understand,” said Y/N.
Steve caught the look of sadness in her eyes and said “Ok, I'm sorry. That was bad. Can we try that again? Yeah? But this time, you've got to cut out all that stuff about being number four, 'cause I know that can't possibly be the reason you're so bothered.”
Y/N rolls her eyes and sighs, now sitting next to Steve in his bed. “Well, no, It's…it's just that I always thought that if I did well in school, that these doors would open for me, you know, and--and maybe I was just being naive. Maybe I've just set these goals that are unrealistic, and you know, certain people get into certain places because of who their parents are, how--you're not even listening.”
“Uh, no, I was listening. Look, we should just all have your problems you know? You're sitting here as a girl with one of the brightest futures on the face of the planet talking to a guy who's not going to get into any school where they don't give him his own tools.”
Y/N looks confused and sighs. “Put your shoes on. Let's go out.”
Now it was Steve's turn to look confused. “Out? We can't go out.”
Y/N stands up looking for that baby blue top that she loves and always leaves at Steve's. “Yeah, we can.”
“You know, just when this conversation starts to get emotionally complicated you want to bail. Who’s the guy in this relationship?”
Y/N turns to him and with an unbothered look says “You are, and like the guy, you have a choice. You can either stay here and prove how insensitive you are, or we can go to Amy's un-birthday party.”
“Right…I'll get my shoes.” with that, Steve knew in his gut he was in for a long night.
---------------------------
Arriving at the party you could tell everyone was already pretty wasted. It was the first big party of the year after all.
Steve and Y/N enter the house and instantly guys start to greet Steve while the girls were whispering behind Y/N's back. That was something she will never get used to.
“We came for your immortal soul. That is if you got one.” Y/N mimicked his smile from earlier earning a very dramatic eye roll from Tommy.
Going to the kitchen the couple met with the voice of Tommy H, a grade-A asshole in Hawkins High and of course one of Steve's friends.
“Harrington. I knew you couldn't resist a party.” He says with that smug smile that you just want to wipe off his face. He then turns his head slightly to see Y/N, and let’s just say they don't get along. “I see you've brought the prim reaper.” He said with an annoyed look, they have hated each other since they can remember, and dating Steve definitely didn't change that.
Finally, Steve decided to cut in, “Actually I just want a drink.” he said with no emotion in his voice whatsoever.
Steve takes the cup away from her as fast as he can. “Oh, no, no, no. I don't think so. It is a proven fact, that you, madam, cannot hold your alcohol.”
“Mm-hmm. Here's one for you and for you.” Tommy directs the second drink at Y/N.
“Thanks.”
Y/N scoffs. “So let me get this straight, you can drink at parties, and I can't?” Oh oh, rocky territory.
“Yes, because as you so rightly pointed out, I am a guy, and if I'm going to get in trouble for being a guy, I think I should at least get to act like one every once in a while.”
At this point, Y/N looks at him with this fake agreement look which makes Steve self-conscious, that couldn't be a good sign. “You know, with your advance permission and approval. Of course, I wouldn't, you know, do it without asking first.”
 Later that night…
“That's fine.”
“That's fine?” Steve was waiting for the shoe to drop.
Y/N's face changes to a look of calmness and unbotherness. “Yeah. We'll both be guys tonight. Cheers.” And there it was. The shoe dropped.
As expected, Y/N didn't feel like being babysitted by Steve, wouldn't that be ironic? So, tonight she lost him while spreading in the crowd of people to find one of her friends. Leaving Steve to do some finding of his own.
Tommy H. was having fun that much they knew. “Excellent. I love this girl. It's like she's trying to lose.”
Y/N was pacing around trying to find Steve and give him a piece of her mind. Her drunk mind that is. Until of course her eyes went wide in surprise.
“Strip poker. I leave you alone for 2 seconds, and you end up playing strip poker?”
Shit. Steve thought. “Originally this was just poker-poker until I started kicking his ass. Then Tommy decided to change the stakes on me, but I'm finished, now, and, uh, we can just leave.”
Oh, this was too good for Y/N to leave behind. Mocking surprise, she says “Why leave? There's a half-naked chick in the room.”
Steve knew where this was going and he wasn't really looking forward to that. “It's just a game. Up until now, nobody's taken off anything other than socks.”
“So, it's all just good, old, clean fun?”
“Yeah, exactly. Just good, clean, American guy fun.” said Steve with a smile that thought would make Y/N leave the issue alone.
“You heard me, now, what does a girl have to take off in order to play this game?” Y/N took a chair and sat down while drinking her punch.
“Mm. Deal me in.”
“Excuse me?” by now everyone was just looking at the couple and their little moment. Hawkins High most popular couple having an argument at a party? Scandalous.
“Ok, that's enough”, Steve says with an unexpected clap to make clear he was being serious. “It's time for us to leave now 'cause you see, you're drunk, you're bordering on disorderly and you are definitely insane. So, get up. Let's go. Shall we? Finished? Stand up. Let's go.” he said in a sing like voice, hoping Y/N wouldn't cause more of a scene.
“And why would I do that?” said Y/N smirking at her losing patience boyfriend.
“You want me to stand up?” Oh, Y/N was enjoying this, he thought.
“Yes, I'd like for you to stand up now.” he said faking a smile.
“Because you are forcing me to make the ultimate guy maneuver.” And before she could give him a response to what he means by that, Steve carried her on his shoulder and starting walking to exit the party.
“Steve, uh, you can put me down now, Steve. I'm fine.”
----------------------
After a quiet ride full of inside thoughts from both of them, they finally arrived at Y/N's house. Steve got out of the car and went to the other door to help her very drunk girlfriend.
“All right, you.” said Steve waiting for Y/N to get out of the car while he opens the door for her.
“I can't walk, Steve.” said Y/N in almost a whisper like voice.
“Before, I had to drag you kicking and screaming, but now you want to be carried? no.”
“It's a woman's right to change her mind.” says Y/N with her head out of the car.
“Ah, but tonight you're one of the guys, remember? and guys walk. So come on, number four. Out you get, watch your head.”
That's when the Y/H/C girl tried to get out of the car with her boyfriend's help. “Uh...I don't really feel so good.”
Steve scoffed. “Well, guess what? you're going to feel even worse tomorrow morning. And you still won't be any closer to getting into the ivy-covered institution of your choice.” he said with a mocking smile that didn't actually mean any harm.
“Steve. I've been doing some thinking.” Yup. this was really happening.
“Yeah. Drunk thinking…”  that made Steve nervous to say the least.
“Maybe… maybe that's not what I really want. Maybe I just want to stay here. You know, I mean--I mean, look, it's--it´s really beautiful here and...and I could just--”
“Just what? Stay here and work as a waitress all your life? Come on. Forgive me if you're losing me here, Y/N/N, but to be perfectly honest, you haven't made the slightest bit of sense all night, even before you were drunk--”
“I wanna be with you, Steve. I wanna stay and be with you.” she said with a tone of sadness in her eyes. Sure, she wanted to leave Hawkins behind for good but the idea of losing Steve because of it scared the crap out of her.
Steve sighed. “Baby, if you wanna be with me, then staying here would be a really stupid idea, considering I don't plan to be here, I plan to be wherever you are.”
Y/N's sad frown turned into a very happy drunk smile. “Really?”
Steve couldn't help but smile himself. “Yes. Really. Not that you deserve to hear such things right now.”
Y/N sighed while they finally stopped leaning on Steve's car and started walking to her house. “I know, I know. It was a very stupid thing to get drunk.”
“Yes, it was. I mean let's face it here, Y/N/N. You are destined for academic glory, and your boyfriend is circling the drain, which is a problem. In fact, that is a very big problem, but you couldn't possibly have thought that you could solve all your problems in one night, with alcohol of all things.”
“No…” said Y/N with a shy voice.
Steve decided to keep going with his thoughts. “No. Because alcohol, you know, it has that effect on problems. It just never solved them, ever. And I would hate to think that I fell in love with a moron.”
Oh, that definitely caught Y/N's attention making her turn to face her boyfriend with that drunk happy smile that she gave him earlier.
“So, you're in love with me, huh?”
“Well, not currently, no. Right now, you're just some crazy drunk girl I got to get in that door without waking up her parents, but generally speaking…yes.”
Y/N laughed. “May I kiss you right now?”
“Yes, please.” said Steve with a wide smile.
“Mm-mmm-mmm! But I'm still not carrying you.” Steve murmured between kisses.
Y/N pulled back and whispered in his ear. “Please.” with the most adorable pouty face Steve had ever seen.
Y/N started giving him puppy eyes hoping that would convince him.
“You can give me the eyes, it's just not gonna work.”
“Nope.” Steve laughed.
He pulled away from the kiss. “Halfway, that's it, I swear. I'm not kidding. My back's killing me here.” That made Y/N grin uncontrollably.
She started kissing him again.
“Oh, come on, honestly, you don't-- Y/N, do you think I'm gonna fall for this? Y/N/N…”
“Well, I guess since we're up here...”
Steve ended up carrying Y/N all the way to her room after he found the spare key of course. Even though he tried to act tough, there's nothing he wouldn't do for that girl.
FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED ❤️
