i dont remember anyones names so this is gonna sound partly unhinged. okay so the edward norton playwright and jason schwartzman actor (not character, in the black and white parts) are lovers right. tbh i thought this was kind of a gag and forgot about it. but later we find out that the playwright died 6 months into the production. i didnt make the connection that THAT’s why the actor-jason has to suddenly leave the stage and freaks out backstage about how he’s not sure he’s Doing it right. hes not talking about acting!! because he himself is literally grieving his lover while he’s playing a character who’s grieving his wife written by his lover so obviously it’s too much!!! actor-jason is trying to find meaning in his death through his writing but there isnt any meaning in death [gerris drinkwater voice] which is what the play is trying to say anyway. he doesnt think he’s performing grief right even in his own life!!! (and tbh it’s the 50s so he wouldnt be able to perform grief publicly anyway!!!!) the play starts with a car accident… anyone would search for some hidden meaning there, some sign…. so when he talks to margot robbie outside it’s not really about finding the CHARACTER’s motivations it’s about the actor himself being able to process the playwright’s death! and adrien brody director was probably also dealing with that too (him and norton seemed to be good buddies) so the whole “sleeping backstage” thing gets a bit sadder maybe? maybe everyone else got this in the theatre and im just stupid lol but crazy making stuff to me!!! the whole story is about sublimated gay grief that cannot be expressed?!?!

the tweet that caught me onto this was here which posits that the playwright’s death was a suicide but i think that’s pretty stupid and unnecessary because the whole thing about the play asteroid city is that death is random and meaningless. im pretty sure that’s what the alien represents— a shocking and absurd event that isnt outright evil or menacing, not something anyone can predict or make sense of, it’s just a thing that happens to you out of nowhere, it doesnt mean anything. he’s a little black figure, he’s death! giving and taking! aagh

you know something that is hilarious for canon ish is that Leia? out of all her extended family and the like had THE most reasonable tastes and actions in romance out of all them. Anakin being the disaster who he is who REALLY could have done with a few dates or relationships before Padme, and Padme Anakin, and Luke oh ill date an Ex Assasin of the Emperor ordered to kill me it be cute, and the tragedy and disaster of Obi Flirt, she picks Han. who once committed is just a SOLID dependable Guy.

See, the problem with this is that Han Solo is not really Just Some Guy. Just Some Guy doesn't sneak around a moon sized space station to rescue a princess, even for a lot of money. Not when he knows her planet has already blown up. He doesn't come back to help blow up said space station. He doesn't stay for months and years, fighting a war that should be unwinnable. He doesn't go into a frozen wasteland in temps that kill local wildlife and shove his buddy into a cooling animal carcass. Just Some Guy doesn't see Darth Vader in the dining room and just shoot first ask questions later.

Han gets away with pretending to be Just Some Guy by dint of standing next to a princess and the last Jedi. By not having a special title, or old money, or magic. But remember, he chose to be there. He had lots of chances to leave, many opportunities to get out. And without any Force powers or political obligations, Han stays.

Leia infiltrates Jabba's palace disguised as an alien bounty hunter and strangles a galactically feared crime lord with the chain he put her in to save her boy. This is the same man she previously taunted by kissing Luke full on the mouth in front of Han rather than admit she had feelings for him (and whoops isn't that funnier in retrospect). Leia is 0% reasonable about love and relationships.

The Pyro's Beta Head: While 8 of the 9 classes had their heads redone throughout development (to better show off Valve's new facial flex system), only the Pyro was left untouched, leaving them as the only class to still have their beta head.

Reference Posing Medics: In "Trailer 2", there are two Medics who are in their reference pose, during the first-person sequence of the Scout running through RED's base. While their role isn't clear, one likely theory is that they were meant to be camera positions for shots that were ultimately removed, in favour of the Scouts perspective, and Valve just forgot to remove or hide them. The second Medic even turns to look at the Scout as he runs by, maybe further proving their original purpose.

The Teaser Corkboard: While we don't have a clear idea as to what Valve had been planning with the "Teaser Corkboard", one likely theory is that it was created for the proposed update that would've included both Asteroid and Cactus Canyon, due to the few mentions of "Future", the blueprint of the rocket engine from Half Life 2 Episode 2, and Poopy Joe. Also worth noting, the two posters that were added with the corkboard share similar styles Asteroid and Cactus Canyon.

The Balls of Steel Taunt: Originally, The Love & War update was meant to include a lot more taunts than what ultimately shipped. One of the few to get scrapped is a taunt called "Balls of Steel", where the initiator would dare other players to kick them in the groin. While we don't have footage of this taunt, we do have voiceline files that reference the taunt's intention, as well as the name. The few files that remain were reused for other contexts, such as the Soldiers Conga taunt, where his "Ooh!" and "Ahh!" lines were originally his pain sounds for the taunt.
