For the event! Could I send the Lab Experiment a box of treats? Like, one of those with cookies and candies and all sorts of stuff. I wanna let them know that all the coddling and gentle treatment towards them is something I do because I enjoy it. <3

when i saw this request i was like ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧ i'm gonna write something super sweet for them. ehem. this did not happen, but i did try to keep the spirit of the request in mind so i hope you enjoy anyway <3 cw for semi-graphically described crying and a... not quite panic attack

your face twists when they start crying.

the box of treats in your hands remains outstretched, their shaking too wild for them to be able to accept the gift without dropping and spilling its contents all over the floor.

they’re know they’re an ugly crier. snot drips down their nose, their eyes are wet and sting, their face is sticky and hot, and their chest hurts and wracks with each sob. the uncertain grimace on your face makes them wail even louder.

a couple maids passing by look at the two of you in alarm and scurry away quickly.

uncomfortably aware of this, they crouch down and try to cover their face. "I’m never going to—" a sharp inhale while they nearly choke on saliva, "I’m sorry."

they feel you crouch down beside them, not too close in an attempt to avoid agitating them even further, but close enough they can sense your presence even without being able to see you.

"hey, it’s okay." your soft tone doesn’t match your earlier facial expression, but they refuse to look up to check. another sob wrecks through their body. "what’s wrong? do you not like sweets? there’s some cookies in here too, if you prefer those."

they shake their head furiously, still refusing to even glance at you. when they speak, their voice comes out so small and shaky even they can’t tell what they meant to say.

some shuffling follows. tentatively, you reach out your hand. their whole body flinches when you make contact with your pinky, but they don’t resist when you cup your hand over theirs and inch a bit closer.

a small pause passes before you hesitantly open your mouth again, your fingers tightening their grip on their own hand but not moving otherwise. "don’t apologise, okay?"

the shaking gets worse.

terrible. they feel terrible.

you’ve given them a gift—something they could never deserve, especially not one so heartfelt from you—and this is how they thank you. they’re already disgusting and sickening enough, for you to be forced to see them like this because you tried to be kind… you deserve better. you must think they’re so repulsive. you must think this is a waste of time.

this must be making you hate them even more than you already do.

maybe this is where you decide you’ve had enough. maybe you’ll finally stop pretending to care about them now. of course you would. it must be nauseating looking at them like this.

when you speak up, your voice still sounds much too soft. they don’t know how much time has passed, for how long you’ve been just watching them be this revolting. "you don’t have to accept the treats if you don’t like them. I want to give you something you like."

you’re so kind. that’s all they can think about. they don’t deserve it at all.

there’s another small pause, like you’re mulling something over.

the tin rings when it’s set on the floor gently. it’s only then they notice your hand has disappeared from on top of theirs. a flash of panic hits their chest, as if they haven’t been ready for you to turn around and leave at any moment the entire time now.

"can you look up at me?"

you still sound way, way too kind. it’s not like they could ever say no to you. it takes them a moment, and they end up scrunching their eyes closed, but they manage to lift their head up.

"thank you."

a whine leaves their throat, but they refuse to open their eyes. even when you’re thanking them even when they’re misbehaving like this, they can’t stomach the disappointed look that has to be plastered all over your face.

immediately, a soft, warm cloth makes contact with their face.

it takes another couple of seconds for them to realise you’re wiping away their tears and snot. they make some sort of pitiful noise. you continue, undeterred, until their whole face is more or less dry. everything feels hot, especially when your other hand comes up to cup their face.

"there. isn’t that better?"

your voice is much too close. they can feel your breath hitting their face. the quivering gets worse. they didn’t realise you’d come that close to them.

but it does feel better, and they realise then they’ve mostly stopped crying.

your thumb gently brushes over their cheek and they whine pathetically again.

"I’m sorry."

the cover of the treat box they’d forgotten is removed rather noisily, then set aside on the stone floor. something soft makes a sound as it’s dropped into the tin. the hand cupping their cheek doesn’t leave, and they can’t help leaning into it a bit more.

in response, you give an approving hum and press further into them.

"shh, it’s okay. do you want some chocolate?"

they sniffle.

"there’s some hard candy, too. or some cookies, if you’d prefer those. or if you really don’t like any of these, I can get you something el—"

"I don’t deserve any of this." they cut in before they can think twice about it.

regret immediately seeps into their bones. now they’ve done it. you somehow weren’t angry before, but you must be now. you’re really going to abandon them this time. you—

but you don’t seem fazed.

"okay." they flinch. "but I want to feed you, so you’re going to have to choose something."

that makes open their eyes abruptly. it’s bright in the hallway and the light makes the biting at their ears and forehead worse, and it takes them a few seconds for their eyes to be able to find and focus on you.

you’re smiling.

patiently and sweetly, you’re smiling at them.

before they can ask, the hand cupping their cheek moves up and stats petting their hair. "it’s 'cause you’re my favourite. that means I like you, and I like taking care of you, and I think you’re worth all the effort in the world. and I don’t like it when you talk like that about someone I care so much about."

despite everything, they can’t find it in themselves to disagree.

"so," you smile wider, pushing their head a bit closer and holding a chocolate treat up to their lips with your free hand, "which do you want? this is your last chance to back out if you really don’t like chocolate."

“your lips are so soft.” levi froze, as if on instinct, immediately upon hearing those words. if only he could see his face at that moment, he’d bet that it looked all red and awkward and unattractive. this was such a special moment, and now it was all ruined thanks to him. ughh, if only he would’ve stayed all cooped up in his room. but all those thoughts were quickly swept to the side when levi reflected back on what had just happened in the past few seconds. his crush had kissed him! kissed him, right on the lips, after the two of them shared a stroll through the gardens!! levi, the demon who thought that he’d only have his favorite characters besides him, was able to find romance. 

“i. um, well-i…” he was at a loss for words. one of his largest romantic dreams had finally come true, and all levi could do was stand still. it was too much for him to take at that moment honestly. should he say thanks? respond with ‘you too?’ go in for another kiss? none of his romcoms or manga ever went over this scenario, so he was all on his own. so levi did the only thing he could do, mumble out something incoherent and hope that y/n would pick up the message. 

“you’re so cute.” at this point, y/n was probably trying to murder the demon. she couldn’t help it though. it was so fun teasing the avatar of envy, especially when he reacted so cutely. “well, i’m gonna go ahead and head back to the house. i’m a bit tired right now.” with that, y/n waved levi goodbye, adding a little wink as one final tease, before skipping back as she hummed contently. she was pretty proud of herself for building up the courage to kiss him directly after all these months of crushing on him. 

levi stood amidst the garden filled with blooming flowers special only to the devildom, still dumbfounded at what had just taken place. the human exchange student had just kissed him out of nowhere and then went on to compliment how soft his lips were. unconsciously, he moved to touch his lips, shivering a bit upon the sensation of his finger on his lips as he remembered how her lips felt. geez, he’d have to thank that special edition ruri-chan lip balm he managed to snatch for tonight.

it had been a few weeks since the little night walk (at least that’s what the other brothers called it), and levi had grown more conscious of his lips, whether for better or for worse. his most valuable possession had gone from his tsl collection to lip balm, which was quite a jump. every morning and night, levi always managed to apply some of the balm in order to ensure that his lips were the softest. after all, he never knew when the next time y/n would surprise him with a kiss. maybe if he was confident enough, he’d be the one to make the first move. pfft, like that’d ever happen. 

“gahh! this can’t be…” levi muttered, staring poignantly at his now empty lip balm. of course this would only happen to him, his luck was pure rotten. his ever cherished lip blam that made y/n compliment him was now all done, finished, empty to the core. and it was a limited edition one! there was no way levi would find another one of its kind. he was freaking out. now there was no way that y/n would ever kiss him again, not with his crusty and chapped lips. i mean, they weren’t that bad just yet, but soon they will be if he doesn’t find a suitable alternative fast. “maybe i could ask asmo for one.”

“ask me what?” levi was, needless to say, shocked at the sudden voice that answered him, not expecting a visitor to, well, visit his room. of course, it was none other than his younger brother asmo, standing in the doorway in all his might and glory, adjusting his pair of flower earrings that he always had on. 

“n-nothing,” he mumbled, deciding it was better to keep it to himself since asmo would no doubt tease him due to the fact that levi was trying hard to impress y/n. he’d pick on his outfits, personality, the way he stumbles over his words when talking with others, the fact that he was way too obsessed with games and anime, and basically everything that made levi, well, levi. and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to handle all those comments. “anyway, where are you going, and what are you doing in my room?” he pointed out, eyeing his brother up and down. asmo was dressed up quite a bit, which didn’t really say much since he was always walking around in the latest fashion, but he figured it’d be a way to shift the conversation away from him and his troubles.

“i’m going to run a few errands with satan, and I, being the caring younger brother,” asmo glared at levi for his previous remark, “wanted to stop by and see if you wanted anything.” in truth, levi did want something: a new lip balm, but that would be too embarrassing to admit. plus, levi not wanting any new anime merch or the latest volume release would be too suspicious, and asmo would surely poke his nose into whatever was bothering his dear older brother.

“i need you to leave me alone.”

“a new set of clothes for you would surely be nice,” the younger scoffed, taking the time to belittle his clothing choice, just as levi had suspected. “what did you want to ask me anyway?”

“i said nothing.”

“annd i don’t believe you.” 

“whatever, i don’t care. just leave me alone.”

“i’m not leaving until you tell me.” ugh, this constant back and forth was giving a levi a headache, and he knew how persistent asmo was, especially when it came to gossip and the personal lives of others. the avatar of lust was surely to find out sooner or later, whether through him, y/n, or some demon that had just so happened to pass by just as levi and y/n shared that kiss. although he wasn’t too keen on explaining what had happened between him and y/n, levi decided that it was better to do so in order to regain his privacy. then again, would asmo even leave him alone if he found out that his brother and the human were pursuing a relationship? well, it would be best not to think about that possibility right now.

“ugh, fine. i was just going to ask if i could borrow one of your lip balms,” he mumbled, looking to the side in order to try and cover up his blush. plus, seeing asmo’s shocked face would only make him regret his choice even more. the sooner this whole ordeal was over, the better. 

“lip balm?” as suspected, asmo was, needless to say, confused at the request. i mean, this was the demon that always asked for the latest installment in manga, games, tsl, etc. all of a sudden, he’s worrying about chapped lips. it was quite a shocking transition to say the least. “well, that i can do. i’ll make sure to buy one that fits you.” levi sighed in relief, expecting this to be the end of this conversation, but asmo had other plans in mind. “but why this all of a sudden? trying to impress y/n?”

“w-wha? uhh...no! of course not,” levi retaliated, although he himself wasn’t fully convinced at his own statement. for one, he was a blushing mess, which he could tell since his cheeks suddenly felt way too warm. secondly, he was tripping over his words, and his brothers know all too well that he only does that when embarrassed. they did live with him for thousands of years after all. asmo shook his head, as if disappointed that his older brother would even attempt to escape from this one. 

“levi,” asmo said a bit too seriously, cupping his older brother’s cheeks and staring him in the eyes. “we all know. the other night, when you and y/n went out for a walk, y/n came back all giddy, and you were a mess. honestly, i can’t believe you thought this would get under my nose of all demons.”

he was, well, speechless. i mean, levi didn’t believe for one second that he’d be able to get away with this “relationship.” for one, anytime someone mentioned y/n to him, levi would blank and act like a fool. also, his brothers knew him way too well. there was basically no such think as privacy within the house of lamentation. yet, he couldn’t help but feel humiliated. he himself wasn’t even entirely sure as to why he felt this way. 

maybe it was because a relationship between a demon and a human was highly looked down upon, or maybe he was afraid of his brothers’ teasing. he was a yucky shut-in otaku after all. there was no doubt they’d make jokes about it (especially that scumbag mammon). then again, maybe he was just feeling humiliated because his “secret” was never a secret in the first place. his feelings for y/n were always out in the open, so nothing really big had been revealed. well, he had time to ponder over his feelings some other time. right now, levi needed to get that lip balm from asmo. 

“yeah yeah whatever. can you just get me a lip balm?” 

“of course. i have one in mind that’d be perfect for you.”

here levi stood outside the house of lamentation once more, hand-in-hand with y/n. she had once more invited him to walk with her through the blooming gardens. they weren’t really anything special to levi since they were a view he was accustomed to, but for y/n who was from the human realm, they were a spectacle. amidst the dreary and bleak devildom lay life, which was quite a shock to both angels and humans we expected hell to be as depicted in various media: treacherous. but the colorful array of flowers provided for a pop of color, a sharp contrast from the dark atmosphere.

“mirage flowers are so pretty,” y/n sighed, rubbing one of the petals between her thumb and index finger. “i wish i could take one back home, but i doubt diavolo would let me.” levi stood in silence as he intently listened to her thoughts that she was spilling to him. did she really trust him enough to tell him everything that was on her mind? that thought surely made his heart skip a beat. 

when he finally snapped out of his little stupor, he noticed y/n looking at him rather strangely (he was oblivious to the fact that it was a dreamy stare). was there something on his face? did he forget to fix himself up? wait, what if she found him disgusting now?! all these thoughts and anxieties flooded his mind, and it clearly showed on his face that he was now in panic mode. 

but then, he felt her lips on his once more, and levi’s mind blanked, just as it always does in situations like this. it was another dream come true, the one where y/n would kiss him again. maybe, just maybe, she didn’t really hate him as much as he thought. why else would she kiss him again? maybe she’d even compliment his lips once more; he hoped so, especially since he owes asmo way too much for that tiny stick of lip balm he had bought him, so it had better been worth it. the thought of that happening made him burn up. 

“mm,” y/n hummed once the two parted, licking her lips as she seemed to be lost in thought. “strawberry?”

“uh, yeah.”

she hummed contently once more and laid down on the bleak and dreary devildom grass, patting the spot besides her, insisting levi to do so as well, to which he happily complied. well, it was a pretty dumb move of him to think that she wouldn’t notice his lip balm considering the fact that he had smothered it on prior to the walk. y/n didn’t seem to mind it too much though, and she did seem to like its strawberry taste, so i guess this was a success after all? it’d be best for levi not to dwell on it too much now, especially considering the fact that y/n had just snuggled in closer to him. this was way too much for levi’s fragile heart. first, she had asked him to take a walk with her again, and then she kisses him outta nowhere, and now they were cuddling? geez, he’s got to ask asmo for the name of the brand later.

“You must not be in your right mind, the answer’s obviously 74.”

“I'm not in my right mind?? Jimin, please check your work again.”

It was a nice Saturday afternoon, beautiful weather, sunny, blue skies...except you were stuck in the library with Park Jimin studying for your upcoming math final. The bane of your existence with you in the same room.

“I’ve checked it 2 times already, show me yours.”

With a groan, you handed your notebook over to the blond headed male beside you, already regretting your choice of studying with him. Jimin was smart, that wasn’t refutable, but was he a good person? Sometimes you questioned that. Especially when he questioned every single damn-

“Are you sure you divided correctly?” Jimin asked critically, after a few seconds of scanning through your work.

“Are you sure you divided correctly?” you snapped back, already annoyed that Jimin had questioned your answer.

The bickering between the two of you almost never stopped, leading to many of your peers wondering why you even studied together in the first place. 

Jimin rolled his eyes at your childish response and moved onto checking the answer of the next question.

Because he’s smart, your rational side told you. It could benefit us to study with another person too! 

However, after another ten minutes, you gave up. Screw this, I’ve been here for nearly two hours with this idiot!! 

You stood up suddenly, slamming your books onto the table with a loud bang in the quiet library. Jimin looked up, surprised at your sudden action.

“I’m going home. This is stupid and we’re not getting anything done. I can be productive elsewhere without you annoying me.” 

While packing up your textbooks, notebooks, stationery, and others, you noticed Jimin looking at something intently.

“Hey! That’s mine!!” you snatched back the notebook Jimin was curiously examining, blushing profusely. 

Jimin smirked, “Well, I guess now I know what you meant by ‘being productive elsewhere.’ Have fun on your date!”

You blushed harder and chose to ignore Jimin’s taunting, throwing the remainder of your things into your backpack and exiting the library, walking quickly. He had picked up your planner, in which every hour of your life had been planned in. You couldn’t imagine what he had seen in there that had made him say that.

Mentally checking your schedule for the day, you did not have a date like Jimin suggested. In fact, you weren’t sure why it was written like that in your planner anyway. As you walked down the busy streets of Seoul, you started thinking about Jimin’s last comment. He didn’t seem to be very happy while reading the events in your planner…

I must be out of my mind. The math test is in a few days. I don’t have time-

“(Y/N)!! Over here!”

You looked up at the sound of a voice calling your name, scanning the street around you. Then you saw the small cafe with an enthusiastic waving hand. Smiling, you walked over to the cafe and sat down in one of their empty chairs. 

Suddenly you remembered the planner.

“Yeri, were you the one who wrote ‘date’ in my planner?”

Yeri looked momentarily confused before chuckling “That was such a long time ago! You kept on forgetting, so I wrote it in your planner. Well, it worked, didn’t it? You’re here!”

Annoyed, you pinched at your nose.

Yeri, seeing your frustration, shrugged, “It is a date! With your girlfriend that’s all. Why are you so upset-” Yeri shrieked when you pinched her hand, embarrassedly covering her mouth. “Hey-!”

“Jimin saw it!! And now he’s going to tease me for the next few weeks just because of this! Yeri, we have a math test in-”

“Come on, (Y/N), it’s just a little joke. Don’t worry about it.”

And with a late afternoon snack with your best friend, the scenario was washed from your mind.

“Shit, shit, shit.” 

You had woken up a little bit late, exactly ten minutes after your alarm clock rang, and you were panicking. It was the day of your big math final and without those extra ten minutes, you wouldn’t have enough time to grab your coffee and eat a good breakfast as well. Rushing out of your apartment with your bag, you made it onto campus ten minutes before the exam started, breathless as well as a little sweaty. 

As you jogged up to the entrance of your test building, you heard a familiar voice passing you.

“Hey! (Y/N)!”

Turning around, you saw Jimin, glasses, cheeks a little pink from the cold morning air of Seoul, and was that a ponytail? Jimin jogged over and stood in front of you, nervously before pulling something behind him.

Jimin handed you a cup of warm coffee, “Good luck on your exam, (Y/N).”

You nodded numbly, unsure that this was even real. Surprised, you managed a “Yeah, thanks” before turning back around to head into the building. 

Nonetheless, you finished five minutes before the time was up, grateful for the extra kick of caffeine. You weren’t sure if you could’ve made it through without your daily dose of coffee. Not only was it surprising to even have the cup of coffee from Jimin, but that it was perfectly made. It almost seemed too suspicious. 

After the exam, you and your friends decided to go to lunch at the local campus cafe. Almost immediately after getting seated, Joy blurted out, “Oh my god, (Y/N), you never told me you and Jimin were dating!”

After the initial shock, you quickly retorted, “What are you even saying? We’re just studying together.” 

Joy nodded smugly, “And where’d you get that cup of coffee from, hm?” 

You groaned out loud, “Oh my gosh, it was just for good luck. Why’d you have to make it so awkward?” 

Joy sighed dreamily, “I think he might like you, (Y/N)..”

You rolled your eyes before looking down at the menus the waiter had placed on your table before connecting the dots.

“Wait, Joy, was it you who told him to get me a cup of coffee?”

Joy looked up, surprised by your accusation, “No..?”

“But then how was it-”

“Okay fine. It was me. Stop bullying Joy.”

The two of you turned around to stare at Yeri, who had been quiet while this whole conversation between you and Joy. Yeri looked nonchalant though, as she diverted her gaze back to the menu in her hands. 

Shrugging it off, you added, “I guess it doesn’t matter then, if Yeri told Jimin to get it.” 

Yeri waved her hands, contradicting you, “No, no. I didn’t tell him to get it. He asked how you liked your coffee, that’s all.” 

Although you were surprised that Jimin even thought of you, you didn’t dwell on it much. It might have just been a thank-you gift for studying with him. Quickly changing the topic, you made it a point to not bring up Jimin in the next hour with your friends. While waiting for dessert, however, your thoughts suddenly turned to Jimin. What even was Jimin to you? Friends? Absolutely not. Just thinking about that made your blood boil. Study buddies. 

“What’d you say?”

You looked up, surprised to see Joy and Yeri’s confused faces. Waving it off, you mumbled something about the recent math exam and the attention was directed off you once more. Jimin was starting to become troublesome. 

Once you stepped foot into your apartment, you noticed that you were still holding the coffee cup Jimin had given to you. A rush of annoyance surged through you and you were about to throw the cup into the trash when you noticed lettering on it. Curious, you twisted the cup around to see what it said. 

“Good luck with your exam (Y/N)!! Also, it was 78, not 74. You were right,” written in Jimin’s normally messy handwriting, a little neater. 

Smiling, you kept the cup on your tiny kitchen counter, and went to your bathroom to wash up, trying to wash out thoughts of the cute dimpled boy.

That night, you dreamt of coffee cups and a smiling Jimin.

Exam season was now over, leaving you with lots of free time. So much time that you weren’t sure what to even do. Thankfully, you had your two best friends there to make sure you weren’t holed up all the time in your bedroom listening to K-pop and watching anime all day long.

“C’mon, it’s the end of our year as freshmen in college! We should all go out and celebrate!”

Yeri joined in with Joy’s excitement, “And who knows? We might even see Jimin there!”

You groaned at Jimin’s name, covering your blushing face with your hands, “That’s one of the reasons I don’t want to go…”

After exams were over, you rarely saw even a hint of Jimin’s face. After all, being study buddies meant you only saw each other while studying for exams. Now that it was all over, the two of you had no excuse to see each other.

Eventually, your friends managed to drag you out in a decent outfit to another freshmen’s fraternity home, Soonyoung. There were already a lot of people at the party, despite being only 8:45. Within a few minutes, however, the house was packed with people, Joy and Yeri nowhere to be seen, leaving you alone in the crowds of people. 

You sighed, standing in one of the corners with a cup of non-alcoholic Sprite, keeping your head low to avoid being recognized. 

“(Y/N)?”

You looked up, surprised to hear your name being called, and even more surprised to see the blond head of Jimin. You smiled unintentionally when seeing the familiar face, gripping your cup of Sprite slightly harder.

“What’re you doing here?” 

“I could ask you the same thing.” 

Awkward, you looked down at your shoes, taking a deep breath before breathing out, “Uh, I just wanted to say...thank you. For the coffee.”

Jimin chuckled, also feeling a little awkward in the party atmosphere, “No problem, it’s what friends do, right?”

Your face burned at the word friends. 

“Yeah.”

Pushing his hair back, Jimin looked up at the ceiling to try and calm his racing heart. “Do you-”

“I kinda want to leave now, wanna come with?”

Jimin stood, a little taken aback before sputtering out, “Yes, sure, absolutely, actually I wanted to leave too.”

You grinned, “Did you have a drink, Chim? Your face is really red right now.” 

Jimin blushed harder, trying to cover up his face with his arm, “Yeah, maybe just a little.”

The worst player I’ve ever had in my group is actually currently in my group right now. He’s young, and pretty new to the game. He showed up at my library game a while back. Actually showed up two hours early, dressed like a Hogwarts student, carrying his wand and spell book, telling everyone in the library all about all the different spells he could cast... My first thought was, oh dear god... I don’t need this... We are for the most part a pretty laid back group. No one dresses up. No was stays in character 100% of the time. We just get together, roll some dice, and have fun. But then my second thought was, okay... maybe if he’s that into it he’ll be pretty good at the role playing aspect of the game.

Sadly he was not... There were several red flags right from the start. He was what I would refer to as an instigator right from the very moment he started the game. If you’re not familiar an instigator is someone who feels the need to blow situations out of proportion for no reason.

DM: You enter the tavern. A middle age human man stands behind the bar serving as the barkeep and-

Instigator: I walk in, slap the waitress, grab a bottle of alcohol, and smash in it the fire place, shouting, “It’s too cold in here!”

He was impatient so I tried to introduce his character into the game as soon as I could, but he decided to take control of how his character was introduced himself and did it by having his gnome wizard pop out of the ground and attack the closest party member for no reason at all. I don’t know why he decided that attacking the party and reducing their hit points the moment they arrived at the very dangerous dungeon they had been traveling to since the last session, handicapping them before they even got inside, would be a good way to introduce himself and join the group... But I figured if he was going to act like that he was going to learn hard and fast what kind of behavior was acceptable so I didn’t stop things when the party proceeded to beat his character within an inch of his life.

He was also very loud, and quite obnoxious, and never shut the hell up. So bad that one player got up and left in the middle of the game. I didn’t want to call him out in front of the entire group and embarrass him so I had planned to pull him aside and talk to him in private after the game, but I did try to get the message across to him that he couldn’t just hog the table the entire night by holding a finger up in a “one moment” gesture and purposefully ignoring him when he tried to interrupt me or anyone else. But sadly he ended up leaving almost an hour before the game was over so I wasn’t able to talk to him afterwards.

We didn’t see him again for three weeks and the second time he showed up just as we were getting started so there was no opportunity to talk to him before the game, and again left before we ended so there was no opportunity to talk to him after. And he hadn’t learned anything from my cues during the game because he was just as disruptive as before. Possibly even worse... At one point a vary rare situation that almost never comes up in a game happened unexpectedly and I had to stop to look up the rules for it. It only took me a moment to flip open the book and read the mechanics, but he decided to call me out and criticize me for not knowing the rules when I was the DM. This is only the 2nd time he’s ever played a role playing game and he doesn’t even know how to cast half his spells... I’ve got three editions of D&D (including the nightmarish 4e), two editions of Gamma World, two editions of Star Wars, and one edition of Albedo in my head that I have to keep track of. It was very frustrating to be told I was a bad DM because I didn’t automatically know every rule to every mechanic for every situation that might possibly pop up.

But after that we didn’t see him again for months. So I assumed the situation had resolved itself. And then last game he showed back up again. Talking about how he started a D&D group at school and has been DMing for that. Bragging as he describes the things he’s done (describing every sign of a bad DM you can think of) and laughing about how he treated one player so unfairly the guy got so frustrated and permanently left the group. Acting like it was some kind of accomplishment... And it was such a busy night that I had no opportunity to talk to him in private before other people started showing up. And this night he was the worse he’d ever been. His volume about 5 times louder than everyone else. Obnoxious as ever. (The player he’d caused to leave before walked in, took one look, and walked back out the moment he saw our problem player was there.) Picking fights with the other players characters near constantly. Talking non-stop, trying to make himself the center of attention the entire night. And to make matters worse, I wasn’t DMing that night. Me and another member of the group alternate between games every other week. And our other DM hasn’t been doing this as long as I have so he isn’t as good at simply ignoring and shutting down a disruptive player in game.

We ended up starting almost 40 minutes behind schedule because our problem player didn’t have a character made yet, and when the DM told him that he was going to start the game and would introduce his character as soon as he had it finished, our problem player protested loudly that he wanted to be introduced at the start and held everyone up while he made his character. Stating that he usually DMs so he “doesn’t normally have to deal with this bull shit” (by bull shit he means making characters). At another point, after the group has just finished a long rest, the DM is trying to describe our next day of travel when our problem player interrupts so he can take the time to have an in character conversation with every member of the party one at a time. Everyone was ready to get on with the adventure but his “I haven’t been the center of attention for 30 seconds alarm” was going off and he felt that was important enough to interrupt the DM and hold up the whole game.

There was even one point where the DM was running a private scenario with one of the players. This DM likes to do that but he does it with everyone. He’s good about making sure everyone gets equal time and is able to work out their personal stories. Everyone enjoys it and we are all happy to sit at watch quietly when personal events happen. But our problem player apparently couldn’t stand that someone else was getting to do something and he wasn’t. So he almost instantly starts talking over the DM as he starts a fight with two of the other PCs, instigating an entire combat and demanding the DM stop what he’s doing with the other player and rule on the fight.

Again he left an hour early and once he was gone the room was so quiet and peaceful and we were actually able to finally start enjoying the game. It was a night and day difference. But of course I didn’t get to talk to him about his behavior.

I’ve decided that if he shows back up next week I’m going to talk to him no matter what. Even if I have to do it in front of the entire group. But if talking to him has no effect I don’t know what I’m going to do. This game is an open library event so I’m not sure if I can actually tell him he’s not aloud to come back. That’s something I’ll have to talk to my boss about once she gets back from vacation. But at the moment I’m worried that if I can’t kick him out and I can’t put a stop to his behavior, I’m not going to have a D&D group much longer. I’ve already got one long time player who refuses to come if this kid is there, and the rest of them are starting to get to the same point already. My other DM has already told me (after only having to DM for this kid the one time) that he doesn’t enjoy DMing for this kid and if he keeps coming he’s going to step down from DMing. Which is going to increase my load now because I’ll have to have a game prepped every single week.

It’s a bit of a mess but yeah, that’s the worst player I’ve ever had. One who threatens to destroy the entire group after only showing up 3 times.
