summary: "Eddie’s pale face was still all you could see. It had completely replaced all your other usual haunting images - Will’s funeral, his screams as your mom turned up the heaters, that demogorgon feasting on Bob’s limp body, El’s shriek in pain as Jon tried to pull a piece of the Mind Flayer from her leg. Probably because you knew they were safe now, out of the woods. But Eddie wasn’t."

warnings: fem!reader - no physical description. no use of y/n. post s4 - canon divergence. spoilers, i guess: max is not in a coma and eleven killed vecna and closed the portals because i said so. angst with a happy ending.

day one

09:19 a.m. His arms were tight around you, grounding you, comforting you - and you wished you were giving all that reassuring back just the same.

“It was so scary.” He said, quivering a bit. You pulled him even closer, as close as you could. “I was so scared. So scared. I didn’t think we would walk out alive. I really didn’t.” You felt his tears wetting your sweater. He was almost hurting you from all the strength he was putting into his lithe arms.

You closed your eyes, attempting to block out the images trying to form in your head - nothing you’ve actually seen, but your imagination was never one to be shy. But you had to stay strong, to not let creations of your mind frighten you, because you had to reassure him. He had to trust you.

You breathed deep before answering him. “I can only imagine, love. But we’re here now. You don’t have to be scared anymore. Everyone’s here. We’re safe. You’re safe.”

Lucas let go of you after another final squeeze and a sniff, and you turned around to properly see everyone else. The room was crowded, filled with so many people. The smell of disinfectant was uncomfortable, but the sight of all your friends united again melted your heart.

Max was awake now, still very shaken but much better than what you thought she would be. Both her legs were on casts and you couldn’t begin to imagine what that recovery would be like. The poor girl… But at least she was alive, that’s what you kept saying to yourself over and over.

Lucas went back to his seat in front of the window as you, El, Will and Jon went closer to the bed the redhead was lying on. The younger ones shared a hug, your siblings being careful not to hurt their friend.

Your hand went to her fire hair in a caress and she turned to you. “I’m so happy y’all are here.” She said, her voice a little dragged probably from all the medication she was on.

“We’re very glad too.” She reciprocated the smile you gave her as her eyes closed from the gentle touch on her head.

09:44 a.m. Not long after that, as the kids were catching up and resting on Max’s room, you gathered with all the older ones in the hospital cafeteria as you recounted everything that had happened since march 21st. The Cali crew, as you were calling yourself and your family (plus Argyle, bless his heart) went first, taking turns in explaining. You tried your best to retell everything El had described to you from the time she was on Nina, but told the others if they wanted they could ask her more about it later. The important part was that it was there that she learned about Henry/Vecna/001 and when she got her powers back.

As the Hawkins crew started their own version, some blanks in your story were beginning to be filled in. You felt bad about Chrissy, she was a very sweet girl from the little you knew her from the cheer squad. Another one of those rare pieces amongst so many rotten people who thought social status in high school was the most important thing ever.

“…and then! Dustin and Max were busting into Family Video and basically kidnapping our phones because they wanted to find where the supposed killer was, because they were already sure whatever was done to Chrissy was not made by human hands!” Robin had been monologuing for a few minutes already, but all of you were used to it at this point. She had no pause button.

“Didn’t help that the guy was Dustin’s friend. He was doubly worried.” Steve was able to interrupt his coworker, rolling his eyes. “Mike and Lucas also know the guy. He’s the leader from their dragons dungeon thing.”

“Dungeons and Dragons.” You corrected. Steve murmured ‘whatever’.

Nancy’s brows were furrowed and she was looking at her hands intertwined with Jonathan’s on her lap as she spoke. “Poor Eddie. Thrown into it head first. He did not deserve any of this.”

Your heart stopped.

I mean, there could be other Eddies in Hawkins. Of course it could. But why was the feeling in your gut so sickening?

“What’s his name now?” You asked. Your voice was trembling, and Jonathan immediately turned to look at you. He knew you too well.

“Eddie Munson. He’s a triple senior. Sells drugs.” Steve answered.

Fuck.

Fuckity-fucking-fuck.

Your heartbeat was a thousand miles per hour, your mouth was suddenly dry and for some reason your longs were no longer capable of doing their job.

“Eddie Munson? Metalhead? Long wavy hair? Fingers filled with rings? Huge brown eyes?” Your voice was about three pitches higher, but you needed to be sure, and Robin nodded to confirm.

This couldn’t be happening.

“El didn’t mention him. She didn’t mention anyone new when she saw you in the Void to make sure you were okay. She didn’t, did she?” You needed Jonathan’s reassurance, but didn’t give him time to answer. “She didn’t mention him!”

Your brother called out your name. “What’s going on? You’re freaking me out.”

“I… I knew him. Fuck, I knew him!” You looked at him and was sure the fear in your eyes could be recognized from miles away.

“Knew who?” Dustin’s voice was as excited as always and you turned to see him approaching your table with the rest of the teens - except for Lucas, who probably stayed with Max.

“Your friend… Eddie…” You were still shaking a bit, even though Jon’s hand on your shoulder was somewhat calming.

Dustin’s smile went away immediately with your answer. That was not calming at all.

“Where is he?” The entire Hawkins crew gulped at your question, sharing concerning looks between each other. “Where is he?!” You all but screamed, your body already filled to the brim with agonizing fear.

10:10 a.m. The smell of bleach made your nose itch.

He was so pale. So much paler than that last time you saw him, under the not-so-bright lights of a random girl’s pantry.

Standing so still. So different from all the gestures you had memorized. The tilt of his head when he was teasing you. The shake of his shoulders when he laughed. His dramatics as he explained something he was passionate about.

His hair was no longer shiny and soft, just opaque and disheveled. His lips were no longer pink and plumb, but almost purple and cracked. It was all paleness. Stillness. Quietness.

The worst part was his eyes. They were closed. You were deprived of those beautiful chocolate pools that you really wanted to dive into.

A single tear rolled down your cheek. Its heat so contrasting to the cold of your skin.

But your skin was no colder than his, though. Your hand, clasped desperately to his, felt warmer in comparison.

There were tubes and wires all over him, and the constant beep, beep, beep of the machines was almost driving you crazy. But you had no strength in you to even be mad or sad about anything else besides the fact that Eddie Munson, the boy who was able to basically steal your heart in only one night, was laying in a hospital bed, unconscious.

After you yelled at them, Dustin and Steve told you what happened to Eddie. The sacrifice he tried to make. Almost being eaten alive by demobats - great, all you needed was a whole new type of demowhatevers from the Upside Down to worry about - to try and win some more time for your friends - to save a town that hated him. How they were barely able to carry him through the portal and to the first hospital they saw - how they wanted to go further to another city, away from Hawkins and their hatred, but that they probably wouldn’t make it in time and Eddie would’ve died.

His arms were handcuffed to the bed’s metal bracings, because he was still suspect number one to all the murders. They couldn’t deny him medical care, but they could deny him minimal comfort. Even though he couldn’t go anywhere, as for he has been in a coma for almost three whole days already. The police officers guarding his hospital room almost didn’t let you in, but apparently already knew Dustin enough to understand that he wouldn’t give up until they authorized your entrance. He’s probably been doing that, annoying the fuck out of the officers, for the last three days. The officers didn’t let more than one person at a time, though. So you were alone with Eddie.

You could hear the rest of your friends talking in the hallway, the Hawkins squad finishing their side of the story. You caught snippets of it every once in a while, but you could hear the whole thing later. The details of whatever had already passed were no longer of primary importance.

You squeezed his hand tighter in yours and got as close to his bed as you could without disturbing any wires from the machines around him. Still holding his hand in one of your own, you slid the other one through his hair. Bending down, you touched your lips softly to his cold forehead.

“Please wake up, Eddie. I have so much to tell you.” You could feel your eyes burning and more tears escaping them, falling into his face. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry I never told you anything when we’ve met. I’m so sorry you had to go though all this.” At this point you were sobbing already. “If I had known, I… I don’t know, actually. I don’t know what I would have done. I don’t think I could have done anything.

“But I asked, you know? I asked god, the universe, whatever there is. I prayed that you would never have to know about any of this. Maybe I was the one that jinxed you.” You let out a humorless laugh. “I’m sorry. I’m gonna do everything I can to help you when you wake up. So please wake up. Please.”

You cleaned your tears from your cheeks and from his before getting back up. A deep sigh left your lips and you caressed his hair one last time more before turning to leave.

07:26 p.m. Dustin, Robin and Steve went to the school, where a shelter was improvised to aid those whos houses had been destroyed by Vecna’s portals’ ravishing of the city (dismissed by the police and media as an earthquake). The rest of you went to Hopper and Eleven’s old cabin, to where any of you haven’t stepped foot on since that 4th of July the year prior.

A government agent dropped off your parents at the door at some point from their trip to the Soviet Union. That was definitely insane.

Your house was no longer yours and Hoppers still had a hole through its ceiling, so you had to book some rooms in the only hotel that was not destroyed and still had vacancy. Eleven and Jonathan could have gone to the Wheelers’, they were invited, but decided to stay with their parents. Thankfully, the hotel was not too far from downtown to Hop’s liking, as he wanted to help with anything he could within the city - you know, get his job as sheriff back - as soon as the sun rose.

You ordered pizzas to your hotel rooms to celebrate your parents success in invading and escaping a russian prison, and the Hawkins-Cali gangs success in stopping a murderous asshole from completing his evil plan. Your head was still buzzing the entire time, though. You tried to be present, to interact, to act normal, but every few minutes you were haunted by the image of Eddie’s pale body cuffed to a hospital bed, in contrast to the image of Eddie asking to kiss you over a package of stolen cookies.

The first thing you asked you mom and Hop after you’ve all filled your bellies was if they could call that government lady who had dropped them off at Hopper’s cabin in the first place.

Yeah, okay, in hindsight, it was kind of rude. Jim had literally just returned from the dead, and your mom just went through an insane amount of danger in a enemy country. But you’ve already accepted that that was the primary importance: to help clean Eddie’s name.

They’ve been informed of everything over dinner, and you finally explained how you had met Eddie. You didn’t linger on the kissing part, didn’t even mention the smoking weed part (that one would be later told to Jonathan and Argyles’ ears only, while Will was showering, in your shared room down the hall), just said he was very helpful in calming your anxiety attack with his wit and gentle soul.

“Wait, so you’re telling me you want us to get the FBI to cover up a story just so this boy you’ve met once and apparently fell in love with, god knows how with only one fucking night together, is no longer the suspect of a killing spree?” Hoppers voice was in that very judgmental tone. You were not fond of it. Your mom slapped his arm.

“Okay, first of all, I’m not in love with him. Second of all, I’m not asking you to do this for myself, I’m asking you to do it for Eddie, a guy that had the world’s biggest lack of luck ever to fall into all of this mess, not only as a victim, but to be blamed for everything on top of it. I’m asking you to do it for Will, and Dustin, and Lucas, and Mike, who also play the very same game people are claiming to be the reason why Eddie is supposedly a satanist. You think these same people won’t go after them next? Target them as the next freaks, possible murderers? They’re already bullied in school! You don’t think it’ll get worst?”

You saw you youngest brother shrinking into himself beside you, but you were just telling the sad, miserable truth. And you had to convince Hopper.

“Dr. Owens and his team were able to come up with excuses for the mall fiasco last year. He was able to move us to California and erase us off the radar so we could have a chance at a new life. You’re telling me they can’t do that again?”

“Someone has to be pinned responsible for the murders, though.” Hopper claimed. He was right.

“Blame it on Chrissy’s boyfriend or whatever! He’s dead anyways!” You knew you sounded insensible, but to be honest, you couldn’t care. “Please, Hopper, I don’t know how they’ll do it but I’m sure they can find a way. We can’t let him be judged and most probably arrested when he’s innocent!” Your tone was desperate. You were desperate. “With how violent the kills were, he won’t be out of prison maybe ever. Do you get that?”

Your mom got up from the bed she was sitting across from you and you met her halfway, feeling her embracing you tightly. You felt Will’s hand on your arm. You hadn’t noticed when you’ve started crying again. They were trying to calm you down. You didn’t think they could, though, but you were thankful nonetheless.

“Shh, it’s okay, pumpkin. We’ll try our best, okay. I promise you.” Joyce whispered right into your ear, and you closed your eyes as you felt the tears falling down your face.

You heard Hopper sighing. “Okay. I’ll call her.”

10:57 p.m. You couldn’t sleep. Argyle was snoring loudly in the bed he was sharing with Jon beside yours. You knew your brothers were sleeping as well, from the sound of their peaceful breathings alone. Will would sometimes fidget and kick your shin under the covers, but would rapidly quiet down again.

You, on the other hand. Was probably going mental.

Eddie’s pale face was still all you could see. Probably because you knew they were safe now, out of the woods. But Eddie wasn’t.

You kept replaying those last minutes with him in that pantry, him asking to see you again and remembering how you wished more than anything that you could’ve said yes, but how you couldn’t. How you’ve had hoped he would never come to know of those things that gave you nightmares night after night, and how that hope was completely useless as he was a center piece in everything that has happened in the past week.

How you were now hoping that this was the end of it all, and how you crushed your own hopes by thinking that you hoped that every single time, only for something worse to come back later. How there was always something worse. How it never seemed to end.

God, you were exhausted. You needed this to end. You needed some peace.

You got up from the bed as quietly as you could and reached for a flashlight in your bag that was on top of a desk by the window. You searched for paper and pen and scribbled a note about where you were going before grabbing a change of clothes. You quickly got changed in the bathroom and brushed your teeth before exiting the bathroom, putting away your pajamas, putting on some shoes and leaving the hotel.

The hospital parking lot was almost entirely full, but you were able to find a spot - far away from the entrance, but still better than having to park outside altogether. As you entered the building, you thanked the gods for the fact that the receptionist was taking a snooze over her desk (you guessed she’s been pretty busy with the ‘earthquake’ victims) and slipped past her to the stairs.

You went straight to Eddie’s floor.

The guards did not seem happy to see you. “You’re the girl that’s been here earlier.” One of them said. Didn’t ask: said. You just nodded, trying to peek into the room. “His uncle is already inside, you can’t come in.”

You let out a sigh and looked around. There was a bench right in front of the door, so you settled for that. The door wasn’t closed, probably an order from the police, but it wasn’t fully open as well. You could see Eddie’s uncle’s silhouette - you think his name was Wayne from what Nancy had told you -, sleeping in the chair next to his nephew’s bed.

“What’s with this murderer being so popular? Those kids are here all fucking day and now this girl too.” Maybe the guard thought he was whispering to his colleague, but he wasn’t as quiet as you’d wish.

“Maybe he’s some kind of Ted Bundy or whatever.” The other one answered.

“Or maybe he’s innocent, you assholes.” You snapped and they went quiet, even though one of them let out a scoff. You just rolled your eyes and rested against the wall. Your eyes were getting heavy… You fell asleep before you noticed.

02:17 a.m. You felt hands on your shoulder slightly shaking you awake. Your eyes bolted open. Eddie’s uncle was hovering above you, his expression a mix of confusion and caution.

“I’m sorry to wake you. Who are you? The guards didn’t know, and I’ve never seen you here before.” He wasn’t rude, just polite, but you could’ve understand if he was suspicious.

“Oh, I’m sorry, mister Munson.” You sat up straight and ran your sleeve over your face, pretty sure you’ve been drooling. You said your name. “I’m a friend of Dustins. I’ve met Eddie last year, only briefly, but I… care about him. I was worried, couldn’t sleep.”

You looked past Wayne into Eddie’s room, the door now wide awake and you could see clearly that he was still in the same position you’ve seen earlier. Unfortunately.

You continued. “Me and my family moved away after the mall fire last year, so we weren’t around for everything that’s happened this past week, but we came as soon as we heard.” He was listening carefully, his eyes locked on yours. “I could… I could leave if I’m making you uncomfortable.” You didn’t want to leave.

“No, it’s okay. I’m glad he has more friends to pray for him.” His smile was small, but it was still there. “I’m going to grab a bite, do you want something?”

“No, thank you.” As he walked down the corridor, you got up from your seat. “Can I go in now?” You asked the guards, who only nodded before letting you pass.

You sat on the same chair Wayne was before you. The beep, beep, beep from the machines sounded louder now, maybe because the whole hospital was so silent at this hour. Your eyes seemed to trick you into believing Eddie was a little less pale, though you easily dismissed it as your brain trying to hold onto some hope.

You held his hands into yours again. The shiver down your spine from the cold of his skin was still the same as earlier.

You thought about Max on the floor below you. You would visit her later. You wondered if Lucas was still there too.

A sigh escaped your lips and your eyes closed again. Everything was quiet, but you couldn’t sleep again. It was fine by you, being used to a terrible sleep schedule for years now, a three hour nap was enough to make you feel a little more rested than you were before.

So you just stood there quietly, your eyes closed and the sound of yours and Eddie’s breathing in unison being enough to make you calmer. At some point, after a few good minutes, you heard some noises but figured it was Wayne and/or the guards on the hallway.

Until you felt movement within your hands.

Your eyes widened immediately and you swore that minor frown on Eddie’s face was not there before. You stood as still as you could, trying to figure out if you were only imagining things, but his hand, still clasped in yours, squeezed - delicately, but still strong enough that it could not be mistaked by some creation of your own head.

You were completely frozen in place as Eddie’s eyes fluttered open… So. Very. Slowly.

He tried to move his head to look around, but grimaced as it probably hurt him.

His irises settled on you.

There was the tiniest of smiles on his lips.

“Hgnn” He actually tried to speak, but spiraled down into a fit of coughs. That was when you finally came into your senses and acted upon it, getting a bottle of water (it probably belong to Wayne) that was still closed on the nightstand, opening it and handing it to him.

You helped Eddie drink the water he obviously couldn’t drink by himself before setting it back where it was.

“Pantry girl.” He called you, his voice hoarse, and yet you almost swooned. You still hadn’t muttered a word though. Didn’t make a sound. You wasn’t even sure you were still breathing. “Hm, I’m glad you’re visiting me right now.” His smile grew just a bit as he rose his eyebrow. “Wait, does that mean I’ve died and gone to heaven?”

You cleared your throat and laughed softly. “No, Eddie. You’re not dead.” Your own words hit you deeply.

He was not dead.

He was alive.

He was alive, and awake, and talking - teasing you. Man’s first words after a three day coma made you blush.

“Hah. That was an almost. Thought I was a goner.” He coughed again, but showed you the palm of his hand when you dived to get the bottle of water again.

“You shouldn’t talk so much, Eddie. You’ve just woken up.” You looked back at the door. How did the guards not hear him waking up? And you talking to him? “I should call a doctor.”

His hand clasped around yours, still resting on his bed. “Please, no. Wait just a bit more. When they come in, you’ll go away.” He looked so sad for a second, his eyes pleading. “I don’t want you to go away. I need you for just a few more minutes. Please.”

He needed you.

You couldn’t say no.

So you adjusted yourself further in the chair, your elbows now resting upon your knees as you caressed his hand with your thumb. He closed his eyes and you were afraid he would lose his conscience again, but he let out a soft hum.

“This almost feels real. Must be all the drugs.” His words were dragging. That was definitely the drugs. But…

“Almost?” You asked. “Eddie, it’s real. I’m real.” His eyes opened again, meeting yours.

“Yeah, right. As if the universe would be that kind to me.” The smile on his lips now felt sad somehow. “I’ve dreamed of you enough times already, sweetheart. I can tell.”

He dreamed of you.

For fucks sake.

You were smiling now too, trying to make yourself clear as you repeated. “Than your telling kinda sucks, Eds, because I’m real.” You squeezed his hand harder, trying to prove it to him. “I’m right here.”

“You’re here?” His smile faltered and his voice trembled. “You’re really here? I’m not dreaming of you again?”

You felt a lump forming on your throat, but your smile wasn’t going anywhere. “Yeah, man, you’re not dreaming.”

“But, how… How did you know? Where? How?!” He was trying to ask, but his mind was probably so fogged he was making no sense. His heart rate was rising, worrying you.

“I swear I’ll explain it to you. But I should really call a doctor, Eds. You’ve been asleep for quite a while now.” He closed his eyes shut and held your hand tighter. “I’m not going anywhere this time. I promise.”

His eyes met yours again. So soft. So big. So beautiful. Hopeful. God, you’ve missed those eyes.

He nodded slowly, kinda uncertain, and you got up from the chair and calmly let go of his hand. You walked backwards to the door, never ending eye contact. He had a frown, still concerned you were going to disappear before his eyes at any minute now.

You introduced yourself. “That's my name, by the way.” He repeated it, savoring the sound of it on his tongue. The beep, beep, beep of the machines was faster now, his heartbeat faster once more.

You smiled at him one last time before stepping out of the room and asking the guards to call for a doctor. Wayne was sitting on the same bench as you were before, one of his hands holding a new bottle of water.

“He’s awake.” You simply told him. The heart-melting smile was a genetic feature, apparently.

Will Byers Potential Powers:

There is something more to the vanishing of Will Byers on the night of the 6th of November, 1983. The first image shows what is a clear image of a demogorgon, which could be seen as Vecna. What I want to note however is how demogorgons hunt prey by smelling blood, yet Will wasn’t shown to be bleeding. So how did it hunt him and why did it pursue him so desperately? Once Will runs into the house you can see the figure lurking beyond his front garden. As it approaches the door the latch unlocks itself, yet we know they haven’t been shown to have telekinesis powers. So how did it do this? One answer: Vecna. Additionally, demogorgons often brutally assault their victims and so why did it just not kill Will right there? He may have shot it but we know that doesn’t really work, mainly heat works. Unless it was told to keep him alive? We did see him being hooked up like he was being harvested by the Upside Down. So maybe he’s just a vessel ready for them to utilise?

At this point I think it’s plausible to theorise how Vecna is probably a “general”, as Dustin says, to the mindflayer and therefore is in control of the creatures of the Upside Down. So if Vecna was invovled in Will Byers going missing, why is he targeting Will so prominently? Why was the mindflayer instructing this to happen? The answer is Will has immensely hidden powers that can either be used for good or bad. If the mindflayer and Vecna can capitalise on this power and use Will as a vessel for Vecna to enter the real world, they can cause havoc.

Another solid point pointing towards the importance of Will is the date the Upside Down froze on, the day Will went missing. Whilst this is still hard to work out, the date links back to Will and this just hints further at his importance and potential powers. Additionally, if the Upside Down is frozen on the 6th of November, how did Will see which letters to light up? Joyce put the lights up to try to speak to Will after the 6th. What about the portal opening up in the wall near the front door? I’ll explain the portals later.

Now I’ve explained the backstory behind the origins of Wills potential powers, season 4 gives some really interesting subtle clues. In the roller rink Will is seen carrying two skates, both a size 10. What is interesting to note is 10 plus 10 equals 20. At this point you’re probably asking, why is this important?

I’ve included images of both of the rolls landed in the Hellfire Club campaign scene. A roll of 11 was not good enough to beat Vecna, which potentially foreshadows that El is not enough by herself and needs assistance. What roll did beat Vecna though? A number 20. Will is number 020? You may think this is a stretch but remember everything in the show is intentional. Or perhaps simply it’s used to show in the skate scene and to foreshadow Will is instrumental in beating Vecna with his potential powers, not necessarily a number 020. Although, I’ll explain close parallels with Henry Creel next.

This part will analyse how closely linked Will is to Henry/001/Vecna. Henry was described as a sensitive child the same as Will, drew like Will did and just generally seemed different. Note how flashing lights have been used to symbolise both Henry and Will? No coincidence there I don’t think. Whilst Vecna is a dark wizard, I see Will as being the light wizard and the one that fights the dark. Which is why Vecna wants to use Will and to corrupt him into joining him. They would be unstoppable.

Linking back to portals, Vecna is able to make portals once he has claimed a victim. He feeds on a life force and uses that energy to open portals. Interestingly in season 1 a portal opens up with Will trying to get through, when Joyce tries to break through it. Does this subtly hint Will can do the same as Vecna but almost has no clue about it? Remember 001 had a chip in his neck preventing his abilities? Will always touches the back of his neck? Maybe that’s a stretch but again, everything is intentional. I don’t think it would be as obvious as 001 either, it would be buried deeper so it was not visible. I know he touches it with the mindflayer but maybe that’s his link with 001 and the Upside Down? Time will tell on this one. Additionally, remember Joyce saying about Will having a birthmark on his arm? Imagine if it was on his wrist. Because don’t you find it odd that even the government and the lab knew how to replicate Wills body in every exact detail? Including a birthmark? Maybe, just maybe, he was a number after all but got his mind wiped in the fear he could use his powers for the worst.

It seems like Will could be the extra link needed, alongside El, to defeat Vecna and the Upside Down. Remember, El is labelled as a mage in the party, alongside Will The Wise could defeat the dark wizard (Vecna). Sounds like the game of Dungeons and Dragons really has come to life, linking with my Neverending Story theory. Will is the answer to the Neverending Story. Perhaps Mikes love is enough for Will to unlock his true powers and put an end to this story, alongside El. Vecna was defeated with love before, so it’ll take even more next time. That’s why 011 and 020 (or just Will) are needed. Note that I’m not saying love is simply enough needed to end this, it needs El and Will with their powers (a roll of 11 and 20) to beat Vecna, mindflayer and the Upside Down. But Mike could have an equally as important part in unlocking Wills powers, so maybe Byler does play a part in the main storyline potentially? Time will tell.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 - REACTION + THOUGHTS

Holy fucking shit, everyone 😭 it was only two episodes and yet I feel drained, it took like 4+ hours to get through two damn episodes but I did it!

My reaction to Episodes 1-7 are HERE!

I wrote my thoughts in a notebook as I watched and I’ve elaborated more on those thoughts in this post below. Mostly it’s a lot of freaking out and fangirling though 😂

(regarding this ask) Thank you for answering so quickly!!

Lol, I'm not great with keeping the dates in order, the minor details simply escape my memory. But 001 being in his mid-30's makes sense... even though he sort of looks younger? To me? Idk if it's the actor or the way they showed him to us, but I'm honestly really thinking that his age matters, somehow. In his revelatory speech he goes on to say (i'm paraphrasing btw) "Humans go about a day just to get to the end. They live a day, a week, months, years, decades just to meet the end." The emphasizing of time moving forward here, in words, and the scene with Nancy looking at his memories where the grandfather clock's hands move backwards, an action, surely isn't a coincidence, is it? I was curious so I did a search and apparently in the books there's a girl who can see visions of future. Showing someone with that same power in the show seems impossible given what happened, but I'm pretty sure that 001 has powers relating to time. It's a hunch with no other support other than what I've written above, but I'm going to stick with it until S4B/Vol. 2 proves me wrong.

That brings me to my next point: The Upside Down not having any definite answers. Specifically about it being stuck on Nov 6, 1983, the night Will was taken. Now there are two options, A) UD has been stuck like that AFTER Will was taken or B) UD has always been stuck like that. Not exactly always, but maybe since a certain someone entered it maybe... *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Of course we don't know for sure if UD has always been there or El created it, but either way 001 is smart enough to have figured out in the what... 5+ years he's been there that he's stuck in time? So obviously he knew something was going to go down that night, and if he did have visions about it, he knew exactly where to sic the Demogorgon.

Now that I'm thinking about it, what if 001 is the reason the Mindflayer wants to come to the real world? This human from another dimension comes in, and MF sends someone to investigate, right? They're a hivemind so once they do have 001, they have access to learn about this other world. And lo and behold, a few years later El (& Party) is thwarting even the MF's plan.

And about Dr. Brennan: I saw that post asking if he's evil or not, and while I agree about there not being a black/white scale to judge people in real life unlike in fairytales and myths, I do think Dr. Brennan is more on the evil side than the good. His curiosity sparked with the arrival of 001 at his doorstep, and then he told the little kid's father the kid died, and started promptly experimenting on him (probably promptly). Now, years pass by, and he's amoral and does it "for the science". Tortures kid, breaks them, molds them, experiments on them. I even agree that after what happens he feels bad, so very, very bad, because this wasn't supposed to happen, but then he basically asks El to open the gate to another dimension, and that shit just doesn't fly with me. Mostly because I believe he knew about 001 being the true cause of it all, he had recordings, didn't he? So he knew about it. But what really, really fucks me up is this — before the last episode, anytime we were shown the clip of El in the rainbow room after it was all done, that mirror? It was intact. It seemed like an observational room (like the ones in a police station in an interrogation room) and there were probably no cameras. So Dr. Brennan probably didn't know about 001 being the real culprit.

Ugh. This show is just — ugh. Forces you to think, rethink, keep rethinking. But I'm still on the "Dr. Brennan is more evil than good" train for now.

I have one more question, or basically rant lol, but I'll send it in another ask, just because this one has already gotten too long.

I think it could just be that he's a young-looking actor.

The show really diverged from the supplemental materials at this point. Prior to this, the Lab was shown as taking in kids with different sorts of powers. Now, though, they've undone all of that and made it so that they all were taught the same powers, though how they've obtained them isn't clear. It's always been assumed that El was born with them, but is that the case for them all?

Again, I don't really know what to make of the Upside Down being frozen on November 6, 1983. Nancy does name drop Will, referring to it as the day he went missing. However, I've seen some fans quickly jump in with that being the day El opened the Gate by making contact with the Demogorgon. Given that they've already established that El sent Peter there, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that it's more linked to her than Will. I mean, why not. Will gets less important and El gets more important with every season.

Brenner was probably changed by the massacre. He only had El left at that point, and he may not have felt comfortable bringing in any new kids after that. He was also shown inspecting the cracked wall where Peter was forced into the Upside Down. I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to figure out what that all was. There were cameras in the Rainbow Room. Peter made sure El was aware of that so Brenner wouldn't catch on to his planning. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he disabled them, though. But we have to keep in mind that Brenner retrieved the security footage for that day, even though he wanted to go slowly, just to give Owens the progress he asked for. We even see Brenner hesitate somewhat as he does so. He knew it would be hard for El to watch, so I'm inclined to think he knows what it shows. That, or he never watched it and just assumes it is what he thinks it is.

Just like what he said, heroes and monsters are fairy tale concepts. Brenner is neither, but he has both good and bad in him. He does not deny this. In his mind, I think he's aiming at a "greater good" that justifies the questionable things he does. Whether any of us agree with him, well, that's another story.

Feeling alone on this, but I really enjoyed like 80% of season 4! Given this wasn't the series finale, I'm not ready to trash the duffers out over a still incomplete story. As long as things wrap up right and the suffering ends with happiness for our gang! A theme of this season was communication, literally across locations and inter-personally between the characters. So I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that a lot of the relationship mess we're upset about might be intentional to resolve next season? Trying to stay positive.

The 💖👍🏾:

Jopper! Just everything about them, couldn't have asked for more. A passionate and soft kiss. Flirting. The talks. All the hand holding/hugging/touching. Huge contrast from tension last season. Byers-Hopper family reunion. Even Joyce getting to kill a demo-dog, I got everything I wanted from these two.

The horror elements. Vecna/001. Explanation into the upside down + tie-ins to past seasons etc.

Max & Lucas. Their individually plots and as Lumax. From emotional and supportive, to cute, to heartbreaking. The creel house scene had me a sobbing mess. Sadie and Caleb were amazing this year!

Was happy to get some Sinclair sibling scenes. And the interaction between all the parents was amusing.

Eddie Munson guitar solo. Eddie Munson period. I'm going to miss him so much.

The one on ones. They were nice moments and really made me nervous for everyone's fate.

Argyle was a treat. The humor breaks overall are always enjoyable in the series.

The battle scene was a good time! The music/score (!!) , the action of everyone kicking ass together from their locations. Hopper fighting the demogorgon with a sword. Nancy & Robin torching Vecna. El fighting Vecna.

The ending. Again with the music and the visuals.

The 😖:

Was looking forward to more El living with the Byers. Joyce and El mother-daughter, sibling stuff with Will and Jonathan. Would have swapped out the extended bully scenes for it. Or at least a one on one with El & Joyce after the dinner scene.

Will Byers / Byler fans being done dirty all around. He was third wheeled, then sidelined and miserable all season. I'm not even that into Byler (mostly due to my feelings on Mike and his attitude) but I literally cringed at the "tender emotional music" being used for m*leven all the sudden and Will's feelings a catalyst for that love confessions (yikes). Then there's all the beating around the bush, thought they'd at least have him come out + reveal his feelings for Mike to Jonathan. Making the monologue more weighted with solid confirmation to the audience (people who are blind apparently) and knowledge from Jonathan. Or honestly just had a mutual m*leven breakup leaving the last season to deal with Mike's end but now...everything would be so crammed. Honestly I wish the painting was a thing anyway considering what it turned out to be/used for.

As a black person, it was an uncomfortable af seeing Erica and Lucas being held down/held at gunpoint by those jocks. Nice seeing them knock them both tf out though, so there's that.

Wanted more Erica Sinclair on my screen and utilized better than to make sassy comments (which I love her for of course but ya know). I want her involved with coming up with the genius plan next season.

No one mentioning or mourning Eddie outside of Dustin pissed me off a little. Steve and Robin spent all season with him and Mike was in Hellfire Club. Makes no sense.

Putting to the back of my mind since there's a S5, but the loose ends/questions. Where did Murray, Dimitri and Yuri go? What's up with Owens? What did they do with Eddie's body? So Ms.Kelley wasn't involved/evil? Are/can the Byers go back to California, is there a warrant for El? A time jump would make zero sense.

The 😐:

I didn't hate the Stancy revival. Mainly because a big part of their relationship ending was out of Nancy's guilt about Barb. So makes sense to bring it back up alongside Vecna surfacing traumas. Plus I'm a sucker for finding each other again after being apart kind of thing and J*ncy is hanging by a thread. However I would say I am annoyed with the show having Nancy torn between Steve and Jonathan constantly. She hasn't been completely content with either one for a decent stretch of time. Girl, pick one!

To add on, throwing J*ncy and M*leven back together after hanging by a thread all season with no real resolution to their issues. They're just good now I guess??

so i just finished season 4, and BOY do i have thoughts

******SPOILER WARNING FOR S.4 OF STRANGER THINGS*******

note: absolutely none of this is going to be in chronological order. my brain is going 100000 miles an hour, i cannot be bothered to sort my thoughts into a proper timeline.

holy. fucking. shit. that season was AMAZING. i think season three may still be my favorite, but GODDAMN DID THEY PULL THROUGH??????

okay, firstly: i got the whole "the orderly is 001 and also victor creel's son" spoiled for me, when i was trying to find the actor and found out like- 2 minutes before the big reveal about what exactly was going on with the dude. tbh, though, it didn't ruin it for me, it just made me more excited to see what came next.

also very proud of the fact that i was able to clock that he was vecna before the actual reveal, both because of his eyes- bright, unnaturally blue, and because of the way he killed the kids. doesn't matter in the slightest but i felt smart for a few minutes so

i cannot WAIT for everyone to reconvene and exchange information. this is what i'm pretty sure everyone has to share, i dont think i'm missing anything?

pretty sure that's everything? i think? lmk if i missed something. but the point is, thats a HUGE amount of information that everyone is going to have to process all at once. at the same time, the more information they have on the upside down, the clearer it'll be on how to beat it.

i would also like to say that That Scene (tm) with max and the running up the hill is quite honestly one of my favorites of the whole show, 'twas beautiful.

i really liked fred for the short amount of time he was on screen, and same with chrissy- i wish they didn't need to die :(

that bitch DESERVED the roller skate to the face and we should be talking about it. fuck her.

cannot wait to see joyce's reaction to finding out everything that her kids/her kids' friends have been up to. she thought she was going wild, skipping off to russia secretly to rescue hopper, meanwhile her children are trying to solve homicides that are being committed by an otherworldly creature that has no clear way to be killed. picturing a completely blank, dead look when they fill her in. petition to let her say fuck, specifically for that scene.

we stan suzie. "i think we spooked a skunk" who's gonna tell her that's weed. and a lot of it. i will take no criticisms of my love for suzie.

also, if steve 'the hair' harrington dies in part two, i die with him. no questions asked. (for legal reasons that's mostly a joke.

but maybe most importantly, the scene where el creates the first gate in order to,,, banish? 001 raises SO many questions. dustin's initial thought as to how vecna fit in with the mindflayer was that he was some sort of five star general, as opposed to the demogorgons being foot soldiers. but considering that vecna/henry/001 seems to be the first thing in the upside down, does that mean that it's kind of the other way around? i feel like vecna has somehow created the mindflayer/demogorgons/demodogs, but now the question is how. i mean, he's been creating the gates by killing people through psychic whatever it's called, but how does that translate into the other creatures? is there another party on hand, one that we don't know about yet? is that how season 5 is going to wrap up the show, with the characters and us gaining a full understanding of the creation of the upside down?

god, i love this show so much. they've done an absolutely INCREDIBLE job this season, i'm in absolute shock. i cannot wait for part two, im going to SCREAM and immediately drop EVERYTHING the day it comes out.

anyways, anyone else have thoughts?

oh, and finally: give the people what they want. give us canon byler.

Do you think Duffer brothers might reveal Will as lab subject no.7 and we get Bond-007 and 7/11 memes?

Will is upset when he rolls a 7 because he knows it's inadequate and is a failed roll that will ultimately result in Will the Wise being killed by the Demogorgon in their D&D campaign in season 1.

I don't see the number 7, as we symbolically currently understand it in Stranger Things, as being associated yet with a traditional action hero lady's man character like James Bond per se. But I do think the number is perhaps being redeemed over time. Perhaps as Will becomes more confident in himself and learns to rely on his friends to help him achieve his goals, too.

Within Stranger Things lore we initially associate 7 first and foremost with the demogorgon getting Will. ("It was a 7. The demogorgon: it got me.") In the first season a 7 symbolically represents fear, inadequacy, trauma, defeat, and intimidating circumstances that make Will feel helpless and like he has no way out. I think it also symbolically represents the monster(s): at the conclusion of the D&D campaign in season 1 Mike declares that they bring the 7 heads of the defeated Thesselhydra to King Tristan (who thanks them for their service with a medal ceremony.) @kaypeace21 has talked about this in many of her posts.

Could associating a 7 with a debonair secret agent in future seasons give the writers an opportunity to take that 7 that Will hated for its inadequacy and transform it into a more empowering number that Will is no longer ashamed of and no longer sees as powerless? Hypothetically it could. Perhaps the writers will do that in some way at some point. Having the wave along the beach in Billy's happy memory of his mom be "7 feet" could signal a shift towards more positive associations for the number going forward. A big wave might make a young child feel small and helpless but it also clearly made young Billy feel inspired by awe and excitement.

But I'm m not convinced that the number seven is necessarily going to represent Will Byers himself, but I definitely think that it does in certain limited contexts. Will's roll does inherently represent Will's efforts which have a positive connotation because they are Will's and he's a hero and we want him to succeed and to know that he can meaningfully contribute to a shared victory against the bad guys. (Re: This great post by @kaypeace21 about Will and Mike working together to defeat the Thesselhydra.)

But I think that it is more likely that 7 represents fear and monsters and also, at times, it might represent father figures too. And I think there might be a father figure character (Hopper?) or a monster character (like the Demogorgon) at some point that is revealed to be 007 in the Lab's formal notes.

That's my current ideas and thoughts surrounding the number 7. Maybe!

But regarding the question of what number I personally hypothesize that Will might be:

The only strict rule that the Stranger Things comic book writers were given, according to Jody Houser, was that they couldn't use the number 001 for any new characters they invented.

I personally currently suspect that Will is actually 001 according to the Lab's files. (If he has a number at all.) And if Will is not 001 himself then perhaps Will the Wise is 001. @kaypeace21 and I were discussing this possibility a while ago in a direct message conversation.

I believe that ages ago an older thought that @kaypeace21 had was also that, based on certain promotional materials and Stranger Things trading cards, that the number 012 could also potentially be associated with Will, too. (There are images of Will next to dice displaying the number 12 in some materials, etc.)

@kaypeace21 what's your current hypothesis regarding Will being assigned a number? I know we've discussed it a lot and you might have some recent insight, theories, and opinions of your own to add to what I said in this post.

In summary: If I were placing a bet and taking a gamble I would wager that either Will Byers (or Will the Wise) is 001. I think that all of the numbers, as well as certain other characters in the story that might not have been assigned a number by the Lab, are connected to Will and are probably alters in a DID System.

Hypothetical plot outline for the season premiere of “Stranger Things 4″

(written purely for fun, not meant to actually reveal spoilers)

We start off in some city that we’re not told where. Kali Prasad, who we last saw being shot at by police, is hiding underneath a bed. Sounds of gunfire are heard. As she tries to remain quiet, we hear someone talking about making sure “Brenner’s daughters” are dead and that they’ve already killed 001-007. After the unknown killers leave, Kali exits the bed and sees that they’ve killed her entire crew. She starts to breakdown as we cut to the opening credits.

It’s Christmas 1986. The Wheelers, the Hendersons, the Sinclairs, and Max and her mother are headed off to Illinois to spend Christmas with the Byers family. Steve, unfortunately, has to go to New York City due to a family trip. Robin stays behind in Hawkins.

Meanwhile, in the Soviet Union, the “American” is revealed to be...Martin Brenner. Turns out, Brenner was kidnapped by the Soviets sometime after season 1 and told them everything about his work, from Eleven to the Upside Down. The Soviets keep him in the gulag with a constant reminder that he will be fed to the Demogorgons once they have no use for him. And...that’s it for Brenner this episode, obviously we’ll see more of him the rest of the season.

The rest of the episode is spent on building up the main arcs this season. I’ll split the next part of this post into three sections based on how the cast was split up.

In Hawkins

Robin is having a normal Christmas until she starts hearing about mysterious incidents occurring around the area. Curious, she goes back to the mall, which has been torn down since the “fire” last year. It’s deserted and Robin sighs happily, believing that the gate is still closed. She leaves. As soon as she leaves, the wall where the Upside Down gate was starts to open.

But it’s opening from the other side! Someone (or something?) is opening the gate from the Upside Down end, which will be Robin’s arc this season.

As a side note, Martin Brenner’s arc is tied closely with Robin’s arc as the Soviets return to Hawkins when they learn about a new gate opening in the abandoned mall.

In Illinois

It’s revealed that Joyce moved to Illinois in order to work closer with Murray Bauman, who is convinced that Jim Hopper isn’t dead. For the most part, the reunion between the group is happy. Mike and Eleven start making out almost immediately, Will changed his hair since they last saw him (looking more like Noah’s actual hair), Jonathan enrolled in community college, etc.

During a hangout session between Mike, Eleven, Max, Will, Dustin, and Lucas, Will suddenly feels the presence of the Mind Flayer. He starts looking around and is surprised that his Mind Flayer senses were set off by a new girl. The girl tells Will to stop following her and runs off.

For the most part, the Illinois segment is focused on the group reconnecting after a year apart. However, the sequence with Will and the mysterious girl will be the main focus of the Illinois group.

The twist for later on in the season: The girl (after she joins the group) reveals she is FROM the Upside Down and that she crossed over in 1983, when El opened the gate for the first time. That’s why Will’s Mind Flayer senses were activated by her presence, she’s from the Upside Down.

The girl from the Upside Down says that there are people on the other side of the gate, just trying to survive the Mind Flayer’s wrath (implying that the Upside Down is an alternate Earth and that the Mind Flayer took it over). Also, she reveals that the Mind Flayer is just one of many threats on her world.

In New York City

Steve is bored with his family and wishes he was spending Christmas with Robin and Dustin. One night, he decides to go off on his own and visits a nightclub. While there, he bumps into Kali Prasad, revealing that this sequence is right after the opening scene. Steve sees that Kali is crying and visibly terrified. He asks her if she’s hurt and Kali says that she’s hiding from “them”.

Just then, the assassins from earlier (who we’ll learn later on are CIA assassins sent to kill all of Brenner’s subjects, including Eleven) arrive at the nightclub. Steve, not wanting to leave Kali alone, tries to get her to leave with him. She tries pushing him away but this leads to the assassins noticing them. A huge fight occurs (the climax of the episode). Steve and Kali escape the nightclub and run off into the night.

End Scene

Before the episode ends, we cut back to Illinois. As we zoom in on Murray’s hideout, the camera starts to turn upside down. The setting grows more and more grotesque as it does, signifying the shift to the Upside Down.

In the Upside Down version of Murray’s hideout, we see Jim Hopper fortifying himself, muttering to himself that he needs to do a supply run the next day since he’s running low on ammo. He’s incredibly disheveled, having spent a whole year in the Upside Down. But he’s alive.

To recap

The main arcs this season:

1) The Illinois group, which is most of the main cast, meets a girl from the Upside Down and learns that there are people in the Upside Down. I didn’t mention this before but the girl reveals that her people wants to cross over into regular Earth in order to escape the Mind Flayer.

But there are problems with working with the girl from the Upside Down.

The group learns about a new monster from the Upside Down wreaking havok in the area. The monster, for some reason, is going after the girl from the Upside Down and that it was unaffected by the two previous times that the gate was closed. It’s implied that the Upside Down is more fucked up than we imagined, with monsters OTHER than the Mind Flayer inhabiting it.

In addition, the group is unsure if they can trust the girl from the Upside Down. The girl does prove her trustworthiness later on the season but for most of the season, she’s portrayed as a neutral anti-hero.

That said, she does have a moment where the group temporarily stops trusting her. She reveals that her people have been developing a way to cross over into other Earths, hence why the gate in Hawkins is being opened from the other side.

2) Robin learns that something/someone is opening the gate to the Upside Down from the other end. Her arc is focused on dealing with the Soviets and Martin Brenner returning to Hawkins after they learn about the gate.

Also, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Jim Hopper learns about the gate in Hawkins early in the season and uses it to make it back to normal Earth. Although he wants to find Joyce immediately after crossing over, he’s forced to help Robin as she deals with the Soviets and Brenner.

So, basically, Robin’s main partner this season is Hopper.

3) Steve, by accident, is forced to go on a road trip with Kali Prasad after he helps her escape from CIA assassins sent to kill her and the rest of Brenner’s test subjects. Steve’s subplot is mostly self-contained but near the end of the season, he and Kali meet up with the group like the previous seasons. This leads to Kali and Eleven’s reunion and we learn more about Brenner’s dark legacy through Steve’s trip with Kali.

Summary: you and steve fall into a babysitting job for mike, dustin, lucas, max, will and eleven. but things never seem to be easy. prepare to have adventures no babysitter would ever dream of doing.

Author Note: i am legit so excited for this series. i watched adventures of babysitting recently, great movie i recommend everyone to watch it, but i just thought about how this would make the best series for steve and the hawkins kids, so here you go ! this is short for a first chapter, but trust me they will get longer.

you laid flat out on your stomach, the feeling of your soft pale blue comforter under you, your flipped through a magazine. eyes wandering over the small print, the coloured pages were fraying at the sides, it had seen better days. the atmosphere around you was lazy, and still. it was a nice change from the normally hectic life you led.

you were a babysitter. nothing should be hectic about watching over other people’s children and being paid for it. but people who say that haven’t met the kids you babysat. the very same children who traveled to the upsidedown and fought monsters like the demogorgon.

there was never a spare moment were something strange wasn’t going on. but you weren’t alone in this, you had the company of steve harrington. the once dicky teenage boy had changed into a more caring and careful boy who liked looking after someone other than himself.

last year you had been suddenly thrown into the world of strange creatures and weird happenings, your normal life was completely thrown out the window. it was hard to grasp the idea that these things were real and they were after you and all these children because of a small girl.

it was a whirl wind of a year, but you had made friends in these children and steve.

this led to you and steve becoming the designated babysitters for the group. whenever they needed a ride they would call you or steve, and you didn’t mind. you had been through so much with these kids, that you felt like their big sister.

and as much as you loved their company, you equally liked downtime. time to have for yourself, times when you don’t have to worry about some supernatural creature thing trying to eat you, time when you didn’t have to think about anything more than the colour you were going to pick to paint your nails.

you tore your eyes away from the glossy pages to look at the the small glass bottles that held a variety of different nail polishes. lading on a cherry red bottle with a smile, yep that would do.

before you could even think about applying to the bright red to your nails, there was a shrill ringing coming from the landline downstairs. you could hear your mother’s rushed steps before her soft voice echoed down the hall as she answered the phone.

you tried to pay no mind to her voice as your unscrewed the lid to the nail polish.

“y/n phone!” your mothers voice called out to you.

you let out a groan of annoyance as you places the nail polish on your bed side table and walked down the hallway.

your mother was standing at the base of the stairs, the yellow landline held in her hand.

your feet moved quickly down the stairs turning the corner, taking the phone from your mothers outstretched hand with a smile.

“hello” you said softy into the static.

“hello miss y/n” the sound of a giggle laughed reached your each, bring a smile to your lips, a giggle that you had only ever heard one person make.

“sir dustin henderson” you retorted.

there was a slight shuffle of movement from the other side of the call, and you could hear the sound of another person talking.

“so we kind of need a favor. . . “ dustin trailed off, his voice coming clearing through the phone.

you paused for a moment. were you willing to break your peace and quiet? you partly blamed the fact that it was dustin calling, i mean you really could say no to the boy, it was a fight you weren’t willing to participate in.

“what can I do for you?” you questioned.

there was another pause, shuffled movements, and you could now clearly hear the sound of mike wheeler and lucas sinclair talking on the other side.

“can us drive us to the arcade?” dustin asked in a happy voice.

your brows furrowed in confusion. these kids had bikes, bikes which they took everywhere and yet here they were asking you for a ride.

“Uh huh” you mumbled into the line. “don’t you have a bike you can ride or something?” you asked, voicing your thoughts.

dustin sighed loudly “yeah but it’l be quicker if you drive” he insisted.

you wanted to say no and just hang up the phone, and spend the rest of your night listening to music and painting your nails, maybe even phone nancy to talk about making plans this weekend.

but then you thought about the sweet smiles on those kids faces and you just couldn’t.

“where’s the catch though?” you asked.

“our moms won’t let us go without a ‘babysitter’” you could practically see their eyes rolling. “not after they heard about, well you know . . .” dustin said.

“babysitter? I am not your babysitter henderson” you pressed. although you knew better, you were the designated older kid in the group along with steve.

“will you come or not?” dustin asked.

you sighed. “count me in dustin, be ready in ten” you answered.

there was loud cheering coming from the kids, which made you smile.

“oh oh and y/n” dustins voice called through the phone, just as you pulled it away from your ear “maybe you could call steve and invite him?” dustin asked.

you were slightly confused by his request, I mean dustin and steve were close, at least in that small group. so you didn’t understand why he just couldn’t ask steve himself, but there were a lot of things that dustin did that confused you, so you knew not to ask any question when you didn’t want to know

so you rolled your eyes but nodded your head, until you realized that he couldn’t see you, and you laughed. “sure”

another round of cheering was heard, then there was a chorus was goodbyes thrown your way, before the line went dead.

there was a soft sigh that left your lips as you walked towards the landline and stared down at the sing of numbers. you thought over it for a moment, trying to remember the number of the harrington boy.

your finger twirls the clear ring around the numbers in hopes that you dialed the right number, the sound of the ring entered your ear. three rings sounded before you heard his familiar voice.

“this is steve harrington speaking, and if this is dustin again so help me” steve said in an annoyed tone.

you let out a soft giggle “did you get a call to?” you asked, amused.

steve’s laughed filled your ear in response “try three”

your finger coiled around the phone cord as you stepped around the corner leaning against the kitchen wall.

“did he ask you to take the gang to the arcade?” you asked in a soft voice, a smile gracing your lips.

“begged really” he snorted, you could almost seem him rolled his deep brown eyes, hands running through his styled hair “why did he ask you?”

“yeah, and that’s why i’m calling” you wanted to laugh at the situation.

now you understood why dustin had asked you to call steve. he had already called the boy and received a no.

“that kid is . . . he is smart” steve admitted in a breath.

“gotta give him credit for his persistance” you laughed as your twirled the cord between your fingers.

steve laughed loudly and the sound made you smile, he had a nice laugh, you had to admit. there were a lot of things that you thought were nice about steve harrington, not that you would ever tell him. he was just the type of person that you couldn’t not like.

“so would you accompany me on some adventures in babysitting?” you asked.

steve laughed at your choice of words, and it made your heart skip a beat.

“how can I say no to such a great mission name” he replied.

you let out a giggle as your fingers tugged at the ends of your hair, you weren’t sure why your stomach fluttered with a strange feeling and your cheeks felt warm and you were sure they were pink by this point.

you tired to shake the feeling, but it seemed to stick with you the more you thought about steve. a shaky breath emitted from your lips as you regained your composure.

“so i’ll come by your house in five or so?” you suggested

“got it y/l/n” steve responded “see you soon”

“see you soon harrington” you smiled as you removed the phone from your ear and placed it against the receiver.

you weren’t sure why you were feeling the way you were, but it had been happening quite a lot around steve recently. you knew steve was handsome, there was no denying it, and he was a nice guy and he card about these kids like no one else you knew, and it made your heart flutter. his smile made you weak at the knees. you liked steve, yes, but now you were contemplating on which way you liked him.

you didn’t want to think to much about it, because you had to get ready to leave in the next five minutes.

so you walked back up stairs and into your room, rummaging through your cloths to pull out a pair of jeans and a deep maroon sweater. “this’ll do” you muttered to yourself as you changed.

you pulled on a pair of sneakers, they were scuffed to the brim but it didn’t really matter now. you ran your fingers through your hair, trying to tame the unruly locks. you looked in the mirror, there was little makeup on your face, some mascara and lipstick and a little powder on your face.

you were happy with the look and raced down the stairs, your parents looked at you strangely, and you smiled sheepishly at them.

“i’m babysitting dustin this afternoon, do you mind if I take the car?” you asked.

your mother and father shared a suspicious look but they said yes anyway. you cheered as you took the keys from the dish. “i’ll be back later” you called out as you walked to the front door, swing it open and walking out.

it was a short drive from your house to steve’s house so you were there in no time. just as you pulled into the driveway of steve’s house, you could see the boy standing in front of the front door, waiting for you.

he smiled widely as you pulled up, stopping long enough for him to get into the passenger seat. “i’m not used to being the passenger” was the first thing that steve said when he got in the car.

you laughed as you tucked a lock of hair behind your ear, turning in your seat slightly to back out of the driveway.

soft music flowed through the car so you drove along the suburban streets in the direction of the henderson household.

the drive was a little long, but you weren’t going to complain, spending time with steve was always nice.

“so adventures in babysitting huh” steve mumbled as he turned his head to look at you.

“don’t mock me harrington” you laughed as you took a turn down a long street.

“no no, i’m not mocking just” steve shook his head laughing “ no yeah i’m mocking you”

you laughed loudly, shaking your head “not cool harrington” you faked a scowl which made him laugh.

“you know that would make a great movie title” steve mused as he leaned back in the chair, fingers combing though his hair, trying to fix the slight mess made by the breeze coming through your open window.

“oh yeah, and for that lousy mocking you did, you don’t get to be in it” you sassed back as the scowl on your face turned into one of a playful smile.

steve scoffed and placed his hand over his heart, faux hurt written on his face. “But i’m the best baby sitter in hawkins”

“debatable” you teased as dustin’s house came into view. “cause i’m totally better”

“okay ouch” steve replied “and that is not true, those kids love me more”

“yeah okay, who agreed to take them to the arcade?” you asked as you pulled into dustin’s driveway, taking the keys out of the ignition.

steve didn’t response to your question, only getting out of the car and speed walking to the front door, trying to beat you.

you only scoffed out laughed as you pushed the car door open and followed his face pace walking.

steve knocked harshly against the door, for a moment nothing happened, you couldn’t hear anything on the other side of the door. steve raised his hand to knock again, but the door swung open to reveal a grinning dustin.

“y/n and steve are here!” his voice carried through the house.

there were several footsteps heard from inside the house, and then they appeared right in front of you. you saw the smiling faces of mike, lucas, will, max and el.

max and el seemed to be the happiest to see you, happy that there was another girl to help outnumber the young boys.

“woah hey there party of six” you laughed

“great now your here” mike said, swaying back and forth on his feet.

“we can leave” lucas finished his sentence.

all the kids chorused their agreeing thoughts. “did we just become drivers for a bunch of children?” you asked quietly to steve.

“I believe so, we should get paid for this” he nodded his head.

“you get paid in love, from us” dustin interrupted their quite conversation with a wide lipped smile.

“eh that’s not enough kid” steve said as he squinted at the curly haired boy, only making him erupt in soft giggles, the sound seemed to make everyone laugh.

“okay lets go squirts” you ordered as you moved to the side, letting all six kids walk out the door and to your car.

your car and three rows of seats. one row in the back, enough to fit three, four if you squeezed. another row in the middle, perfect for three people and no more and then the drivers and passenger seat, just enough seats for the kids and you and steve.

once all the kids were seated and buckled in you started to drive to the arcade.

“okay we have a question for you little shitheads” steve turned in his seat to look at the six kids on the back seat.

“we do?” you questioned, eyes shifting to steve for a moment before looking back at the road.

“yes we do” steve answered, not looking at you. “which of us makes the better babysitter?” he asked.

you wanted to laugh at his question, he really took the title of better babysitter seriously. it was kind of sweet.

“wait your serious?” max’s voice reached your ears, you could hear the sheer amusement in her one.

“deadly” steve deadpanned.

“well that’s easy y/n” max shrugged her shoulder as you glanced at her in the rear view mirror.

“yeah y/n is kinda nicer to us” will agreed timidly, it made you heart warm that they liked you.

“no way, steve is so much better!” dustin replied loudly.

“watch it henderson, remember who said yes to the arcade today” you laughed.

“steve is kid of a shit, but he carries a cool bat so” lucas shrugged his shoulders.

“two points for harrington” steve said is satisfaction.

then his attention seemed to be on mike and el.

“well I mean you dated my sister so you out” mike shrugged carelessly. “and y/n is just better than you, no competition”

“ouch” you laughed pulling into the arcade carpark.

“shut-up y/l/n” steve scoffed as he looked at el, who held a smile on her face.

“who do you like better el?” mike asked the short haired girl.

her eyes seemed to shirt between the two teenagers in the car with a thoughtful look on her face.

“y/n” she said in agreement with mike.

“what no way!” steve shouted as he turned back in his seat, looking defeated.

“I told you harrington, i’m just better than you” you teased as you parked the car, each of the children eager to get out of the car and play the neon lighted games in the stuff arcade.

“you win this time y/n but just you wait” steve pointed a finger at you making you laugh.

“get out of my car harrington” you giggle as you pushed the car door open and stepping out of the car, steve copying your actions.

“i’ll let you beat me at pac-man” you teased as you and steve walked into the arcade, the kids already racing around the brightly lit room with wide smiles.

“bring it on y/n” steve smiled widely.
