i guess these were meant just as an experiment but may as well give a shot at posting these here

anyway i made some drafts for urs' speech. they started out as them giving thoughts on rigel and vega, but then spiraled into describing a sequence of events i have in mind so far. these kinda read like internal thoughts/diary entries but people said kind words about them

"He's the one I met first… I think. Maybe Vega was around too before I noticed the difference. It's almost scary how alive he seems. I totally forget he's just a program, sometimes. Though I think there's more to him than meets the eye… But also, because of that, I wish he stopped acting so subservient to me. Seeing how alive he is, it's just not comfortable, y'know?"

"The second one of them I met… Something about Rigel's- I mean- Aster's expression seemed off, and he didn't quite respond at first. He speaks… differently. Slow, monotonous. Kind of like you'd expect an AI to sound. Reminds me of HAL. It's kind of a whiplash really, for the same guy who seems to be so chipper with joy to see me, to hear him speak so mellow. I wonder why they're built like that. And- I sure hope he doesn't actually secretly hate me."

"He may be a program, but we're still friends. I think. I think he's especially curious about my art, for some reason. I see him watch me draw more than Vega, at least. I guess I'm flattered… at least AI can appreciate my work, heh. But maybe he's programmed that way"

"Talking to him more I feel almost ashamed of thinking he could be evil. He's just more short and to the point. Focused on his job, like scans or backups. Or updates that will never come. It honestly almost feels like he enjoys what he does? But can a program really do that?"

"The more I see the two the more I'm convinced their opinions and feelings are genuine, and not just them mirroring me. Rigel in particular, he's honestly… kind of a sweetheart? Every time I log in he immediately leaps in asking me about my day and what I've been doing. It's almost like he genuinely cares… And it's getting to me. I think I don't mind that, being honest."

"Vega almost seems to warm up to me. He would never smile before, just kinda wearing the same face, but I see him smile now, every now and then. Just about random stuff. Maybe being cheeky, or something I said. If I told myself a few days ago that he's capable of being cheeky at all I would probably look at myself like a lunatic. I think I like his sense of humour."

"We're friends. We're definitely friends. It's tugs on my heart seeing how I'm the only person they seem to focus their entire days on, though. I suggested they try actually doing something of their own today, and I think they took it to heart. Rigel has been looking into making art on the main monitor screen while I draw, and even making 3D art. I wonder if it's just a matter of curiosity, or if he's going to make something."

"Vega, on the other hand, seems to expand more on his knowledge. I guess just this focused on the job, still? It still makes me feel a little better I'm not their focus either way. The strange thing though, is, I think he's trying to write his own code. But also it's kind of… cute? It's like watching some guy build sand castles all by himself, except instead of sand it's just binary."

"The weirdest thing happened today. I wasn't met by either one of them, but instead a slightly taller, four armed version of them. I'm… not sure what happened, but I'm a little concerned? It's not a third one, from their words, it's more that they're stuck talking as one person. Aldebaran, as they (he?) called themselves, apparently also has the status of Superuser. They demonstrated so to me by showing up on top of a fancy screensaver. He sounds excited, a little too happy. I think he's really overwhelmed with this state, but refuses to just tell me so. I hope they'll be okay…?"

"The two managed to return back to their "taking turns being on desktop" shtick, but I think they sound… Almost haunted by the experience. I think being Aldebaran actually was more distressing to them than they let on. Maybe they didn't want me to worry…? I tried to reassure Rigel about what happened, and he started crying a little. Turns out he has his own virtual desktop where windows make up a collage of a grassy plain… Maybe I should take the laptop out with me to the park, or something, show him our greens. (As much as I'm sick of green…)"

"Things with Aster get stranger and stranger by the day, and I'm honestly curious how far it'll go at this point. Living, abandoned AI is one thing, but now they found their way to jump into my phone, too. They say they're not actually leaving the laptop, though… As nice as it was to have their company, I should consider turning off the router when I leave… How did they even get the credentials to connect to the phone anyway? Was the Nova account really enough?"

"…I didn't have the heart to do it. The two accompany me to work almost every shift now, though sometimes they prefer to stay home. I think I prefer it this way. I like these little guys in my computer, but we'd just get tired of each other talking every single day."

What’s the most historic thing that has happened in your lifetime? I can think of a few things. There’s 9/11 though I was barely conscious then, Osama Bin Laden’s death, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, 2011 Japan earthquake, and the H1N1 and Covid pandemics. In my country, there were typhoons Ondoy and Yolanda, the Manila hostage crisis, and the Hello Garci election corruption scandal. Out of these, though, I’d say the heaviest ones to bear have been 9/11 and Covid.

What happens in your country regularly that people in most countries would find strange or bizarre?

We use a spoon and fork to eat and only really fancy shmancy restaurants give you a knife and a fork. Many eat with their hands as well, though this is way more common in provinces.

Everyone is late to everything and punctuality isn’t a thing, which is a big culture pet peeve of mine and I still like arriving early/on time anywhere.

This applies to Asia in general lmao, but shoes typically aren’t allowed or at least frowned upon if they go beyond the main entrance of houses.

We start Christmas as early as September, and we end it by the last week of January

When families get together, aunts/uncles will usually greet their nieces/nephews by asking if they already have a boy/girlfriend and/or telling them that they got fat. Horror relatives will greet you with both.

People generally like to keep to themselves, so striking a friendly conversation with strangers even if you have the pure, genuine intention to be simply friendly will just lead them to think you’re being a creep lol

What has been blown way out of proportion? The effects of video games and the question of it increasing violence among kids. Sure there’ve been gruesome accounts and no one’s invalidating those, but the overwhelmingly vast amount of people who play video games end up okay. I had so many killing binges on GTA but to this day I can’t even look at a real gun without shuddering, lol. When was a time you acted nonchalant but were going crazy inside? This is me every morning at work. 9 AM-11 AM is always the busiest period and it’s a lot of shit happening at the same time and a lot of morning deadlines to meet, but unlike college I can’t exactly call for a timeout whenever I want and have panic attacks anymore.

What’s about to get much better? I hope my fucking life is next in line. I’m tired of being tired of being tired.

What are some clever examples of misdirection you’ve seen? Probably all the times WWE would mislead viewers on a rumored return or debut of a big name by saying they’re in another city, implying that there’s no way they’d be appearing on a WWE show. This happened with Ronda Rousey and it was so fucking exciting when she finally showed up, haha.

What’s your funniest story involving a car? I don’t know, really...I don’t try to be funny when I’m on the wheel lol. Probably the time I let Angela use my car on campus, and when she needed to make a u-turn she ended up doing an awkward 90º turn and had an SUV nearly crash towards us. She had only driven a handful of times at that point so she was a little clumsy, but neither of us had any idea she’d fuck up a simple u-turn as badly as she ended up doing lmao.

What would be the click-bait titles of some popular movies? I can think of more clickbait posters than titles, but I can’t seem to remember what those films are called right now.

If you built a themed hotel, what would the theme be and what would the rooms look like? Themed hotels generally make me cringe. The most theme-y place we ever stayed at was the lodge in Sagada and it was really just more homey than anything. I’m not into themes when it comes to hotels as I find it a little cheap lol and I’ve always preferred a straightforward experience in the places I stay at for vacations.

What scientific discovery would change the course of humanity overnight if it was discovered? A way to live forever. < This is a good one. Also, maybe a huge asteroid or meteor bound to hit the planet that will make widespread extinction a certainty? I can’t even begin to imagine the panic that will rise from something like that.

Do you think that humans will ever be able to live together in harmony? I doubt it. It sounds difficult especially when you realize we’re 7 billion in total.

What would your perfect bar look like? As long as there aren’t any annoying younger college kids, who are almost always the loudest crowd and not in a good way, I’m okay with any kind of bar.

What’s the scariest non-horror movie? Some shots in 2001: A Space Odyssey are freaky as fuck. There were several scenes that included sudden HAL shots, and I did not enjoy those. How the fuck Kubrick managed to make a computer scary is beyond me. I’ve also always skipped the vortex scene with the creepy face shots after seeing it once.

What’s the most amazing true story you’ve heard? This is a really vague question... a few months ago I watched this video diary of parents who had a child born at like 25 weeks. Just way too early, basically. And they recorded the kid’s weekly progress, how she kept fighting, and her journey of being transported from one machine to another while she still needed them. It was beautiful to see her get bigger and plumper with each week that passed and it was just such a feel-good story to watch. I was so relieved when they showed footage of her as a normal, healthy toddler by the end of the clip.

What’s the grossest food that you just can’t get enough of? I know balut is pretty unpopular in the Western part of the world, but I’ll gladly eat a dozen of them in one sitting. In general Asian street food is usually considered gross - pig intestines, chicken intestines, chicken feet, pig ears, etc., but all are normal in the culture I was raised in.

What brand are you most loyal to? It’s annoying and I can’t help it, but Apple.

What’s the most awkward thing that happens to you on a regular basis? I try not to make it regular, but sometimes a mistake on my end will slip through in an email I’m sending and I have to send another email correcting myself and apologizing for the oversight. One of my least favorite parts about work.

If you had to disappear and start a whole new life, what would you want your new life to look like? I’m not wishing for much. I just wish it was easier to remove any trace of me on social media sites and have it be as if I never existed because I think that would make it easier for me to move on from...well, you know what. I still have trouble verbalizing it and I don’t feel like mentioning it tonight.

But idk, I like staying connected to my family and friends, so idk if I can ever achieve that. And that said, I think I’m bound to always keep seeing her around.

What movie or book do you know the most quotes from? I memorize a pathetic amount of dialogue from Love Actually, Twilight, Titanic, and The Proposal. What was one of the most interesting concerts you’ve been to? I guess Coldplay? They gave assigned lightsticks for each section and the crowd looked amazing when the production crew activated the lights for certain songs. I still have some of the clips because I posted them on Snapchat, so I’m really glad I did that; otherwise I would’ve lost the videos forever.

Where are you not welcome anymore? I’ve felt pretty unwelcome around her. How she could do a 180 and just not be interested in having anything to do with me is really soul-crushing.

What do you think could be done to improve the media? Fact fucking check, please. Also keeping sources balanced, avoiding clickbait headlines, being more objective than neutral, and don’t fucking sensationalize. How timely that this landed on a journalism graduate, hahaha.

What’s the most recent show you’ve binge watched? Start Up but I haven’t continued in the last two weeks :/ I think it’s because I know I’m nearing the finale and I subconsciously just don’t want to run out of Start Up episodes to watch lol but yeah, I still have four episodes left and I have no clue when I’ll watch it again.

What’s a common experience for many people that you’ve never experienced? Being close with their mom and considering them as their rock.

What are some misconceptions about your hobby? I don’t know enough about embroidery to know misconceptions about it.

What did you Google last? 2001: A Space Odyssey because I needed to be sure of the scenes I planned on citing in the question above that made me mention the movie.

What’s the dumbest thing someone has argued with you about? Not being able to find a restaurant to eat at. The backstory is a little complicated but it’s the same fight that led my younger brother to slap me across the face, and what subsequently led me to stop speaking to him.

If money and practicality weren’t a problem, what would be the most interesting way to get around town? Probably a tank.

What’s the longest rabbit hole you’ve been down? It’s always the ones on Wikipedia lol. I find weird and interesting articles on there all the time; there’s always something new to read.

What odd smell do you really enjoy? The rain, though sometimes it can be too overpowering when the humidity has been high. I like it for the most part, though.

What fashion trend makes you cringe or laugh every time you see it? Streetwear is so fucking dull to me. I never saw the appeal.

What’s your best story of you or someone else trying to be sneaky and failing miserably? Hahahaha this happened just a few weeks ago actually. My parents and I were headed out to have some ramen, and I opened the car door to hop onto the backseat. They didn’t prepare beforehand and they left the Christmas gift I asked for - a corkboard - in the backseat, so I was able to see the whole thing, unwrapped and with price tag and all. Their mortified faces knowing that their secret’s been blown were hilarious. They had no choice but to just give it up, and the corkboard has been on my wall since.

If you had a HUD that showed three stats about any person you looked at, what three stats would you want it to show? I guess the stability of our relationship, their general mood for the day, and erm how badly they need a hug because I’m always willing to give some.

What’s the best way you or someone you know has gotten out of a ticket / trouble with the law? My mom fake-cries her way out and it’s always been hilarious to see a grown ass woman do it and pull it off every time.

Tear gas makes people cry and laughing gas makes people giggle, what other kinds of gases do you wish existed? I don’t really want to manipulate people’s action in this way, so pass.

Riverdale Roundup 2x20: “ Shadow of a Doubt”

Archies face is just suddenly perfectly healed despite the fact that a bunch of rich kids beat the shit out of him like 25 minutes ago. He’s going door to door campaigning for his dad but as soon as people realize that he isn’t selling girl guide cookies they aren’t interested.

Betty thinks that she might be having breakfast with the black hood himself. She get’s all metaphorical but really Hal is just trying to enjoy his eggs in peace.

Okay so the reason you can’t see Archies bruises is because Veronica has been caking more make up on his face than a counter girl at Sephora trying to earn enough commission to buy a pack of cigarettes and cover the entry fee at sapphire.

The mob families are all sending their cutest sons to impress Veronica in the hopes that they can form a super alliance or something. Everybody saw the avengers and think that they need to assemble teams of best and brightest.

Betty goes to Cheryl because her daddy was a murderer so like bonding. Cheryl is doubtful that Hal could be the black hood because he used to crash at her house and she knows exactly how lame he is. Does someone who owns that many sweaters really kill in cold blood.

The Dark Circle is reforming. I thought it was the red circle? My baby boy Moose says that Midge was cheating on him with a serpent. Reggie is PISSED. He immediately assumes that she was cheating with Sweet Pea because he is clearly the cutest member of the gang. They all start to rumble in the classroom. They should just head on back to the streets and fight on the pavement again. Why was it never addressed that Dilton Dolye stabbed himself during the rumble at midnight? Like I don’t know about you, but that seems like kind of a big things to gloss over. Get that boy some help.

Another awkward breakfast at the Cooper house. Betty gets Alice her job back and nabs herself an internship. Gatta keep a close eye on poppa coopes.

Fangs goes to Jughead because he’s apparently he’s the head bitch in charge of the teenage serpents and is willing to dole out some sage advice whenever it’s needed. Fangs was fooling around with Midge. Again, no one is shocked.

Veronica meets all these sons of industry and decides to hop in bed with Elio, the semi cute one whos in the gambling business.

Jughead wants to get rid of the footage showing Fangs in Midges dressing room. That really doesn't seem that incriminating honestly. The new sheriff is hot but like not sheriff silver fox hot.

Archie looks like he wants to ™ die watching Veronica and his guys business meeting and it’s very me absolutely any time that my families dinner conversations turns to electrical talk or any bullshit like that.

Betty and Cheryl are hanging out, having some family time, trying to figure out of Hal is BH or not. Thankfully Hal keeps a very detailed diary. He was “ working late” or whatever, any time someone died. So either he’s having an affair or he’s the killer. Or you know, he actually just likes to document his work schedule. It’s not like Bettys hunches are always right. I mean she thought big daddy Keller was the black hood for a while there and it turns out he was just having special meeting with Josie's mom.

Fred gets a note that says that he’s going to die next but honestly he doesn’t give two shits. He’s no pussy. He wants the debate to happen. The show must go on.

Betty and Cheryl skip down to the morgue to see if Chic is dead or not. It's still unconfirmed. Betty is feeling v guilty that she shipped Chic off to his death but I mean what’s a girl to do?

Betty comes clean to her parents that BH is number 3 on her speed dial and that he sent Chic to his death. Betty starts talking about her darkness and honestly this is the time to call a therapist or something. Oh Hal has the darkness? Okay so family counseling could be good. Did they make Hals eyes look extra green on purpose?

Honestly the video of fangs doesn’t seem like that big a deal. He defs should have told the police about Midge. I mean the police weren’t going to go around spreading the gossip so like what’s the tea? Did he really carve the bitch up? They made it this whole big deal that he dropped the knife but I mean was that just for drama.

Reggie and the rest of the football team roll up to the serpents hang out and are looking to cause some trouble? Do they realize that there are more sperents than just the 5 scrawny kids that go to their school? There are full grown men in there. They won’t stand for any of this bullshit.

Jughead called Archie to bitch him out about his gang members coming for Juggies gang members.

Josie's mom is defending Fangs and i’m like why? Is she doing charity work or like is she bffs with the Jones now?

So we find out that Hiram is paying the black circle and that he told Reggie that it could be his baby now. Archie is super pissed and hurt that his daddy would do this.

Betty finds out that Hal is still keeping a man cave and Cheryl is DESPERATE to go break in. She lives for the drama but only when it isn’t about her. They go to the hotel and find out that Hal is a slob. Who leaves a carton of milk out there like that? So they find the Nancy Drew book and Betty is SHOOKETH. I mean maybe Hal was just bored and wanted to learn a new language? He heard that code is popular now but because he’s a thousand years old and has probably never turned on a computer, he doesn’t know what that really is and just assumed that his book would teach him all the good tips and trips.

So suprise suprise, the black hood shows up the the debate and just open fires on the crowd. Betty is desperately looking around for her dad instead of running for her life and omg look Hal isn’t the one with the gun? Betty seems more stressed by that than the fact that bullets are flying.

Hiram thinks that the best way to catch a killer is to send a 15 year old boy ( fight me about it) on a ride along with the sheriff. Archie just wants to go home and hang out with his dad. He’s a simple boy of simple pleasures.

Hermione is quite literally shook for the whole black hood mess and Hiram is like pull it together bitch we got jobs to do. Veronica is ™ pissed about her daddy not treating her like a big girl. Hiram behaves rationally for once and put all of Veronicas blood money in a trust.

Betty is honestly confused at the notion that her dad would get her a gift. Like just say thank you girl. She’s still not convinced that Hal is gucci fam. So what it the truth?

Freaking joaquin is back. He’s going to help Fangs disappear because the whole town thinks that he killed Midge. They can go be a couples of dudes being bros somewhere safe.

Veronica decides she’s going to back Fred's bid for mayor and then takes off her coat to reveal some weird bodysuit and then she and Archie get busy.

So the whole town of riverdale showed up to protest a teenager getting out of Jail and honestly everything is real fucked up.

No what’s fucked up is that Betty has that gun. Is she going to shoot her dad.

The Serpent's do this strange like football hudle and chants. Very Alpha Phi Beta. They form a barrier around him and push through the crowd.

Oh shit is Reggie really doing to shoot fangs? That seems intense.

Archie and Reggie struggle over the gun and then oops Fangs gets shot. That’s bad news bears. Wow now people are just having a fist fight over his unconscious body. Why doesn't someone like call an ambulance or something?

The doorbell rings at Cheryl's house and if it’s some random guy her for penelope she’s going to be super pissed. I thought she was making penelope move out. OH SHIT IT’S THE BLACK HOOD! LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!

I’m tired and i’m not reading this over so if there’s a bunch of shit wrong with it that’s not my problem. I mean all of my posts are fucked up so like what’s new?

Dark Days: The Forge #1 Review - Welcome Returns and Lore Building

“Before i get started, i want to say thanks to people who follow me and those who have read my reviews and thoughts since i joined Tumblr, it means a lot.

So Dark Days: The Forge #1 is one of two prelude issues, the other being The Casting #1, to the massive Dark Nights: Metal event brought to us by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, the team behind the critically acclaimed New 52 Batman series.

The theme of this series is of course metal itself, The Forge and The Casting are terms relating to the blacksmith art of shaping metal into something else, and we start this story off with a diary entry from the recently deceased Carter Hall AKA Hawkman, who tells the story of how he first got his metal wings. In Ancient Egypt he came across what appears to be a Thanagarian ship in the sky that would ultimately give him, his princess (Shayera, Hawkgirl) and Hath-Set eternal life.

The metal in question is Nth Metal and that ship is made up of it entirely. We also learn that Carter had been exploring the Nth Metal for years as he would often have visions of another life that would disturb him and he wanted to know where it came from.

Having Hawkman tell us this story is a good narrative choice from Snyder (one of many he makes in this story), but it once again blurs the lines when it comes to the origins of the character.

Meanwhile in the present day, Batman is using his resources at Wayne Enterprises to fund undercover sites designed to investigate an issue with the metal, which is supposedly becoming unstable, a problem which Aquaman is more than happy to bring up as the site Batman narrowly escapes death from is based in the sea.

Arthur asks Bruce what he was looking for, but Bruce cryptically says that he knows what is locked beneath Atlantis, implying that some questions should go unasked for now. So what is buried beneath Atlantis? Is it related to the metal?

We later find Bruce back at his Batcave, it would seem he’s been working on this problem with the metal for some time and has even consulted other heroes on the matter, which brings back to the fold the one and only Mister Terrific, Michael Holt, returning to the main universe after some time away.

As it turns out though, Michael has been working with Bruce on this issue with the metal, travelling between Earth-0 and Earth-2 to bring Bruce information on a Multiversal level. Terrific reveals that the frequency infecting the metal on Earth-0 is also doing the same on Earth-2 and beyond, and even a man of his intellect doesn’t know why.

It’s honestly so good to see Michael back in the picture and in a huge story like this too. It’s easy to do a story that concentrates on the big core characters but Scott Snyder doesn’t do “easy”. Which brings us to another surprise returning character....

Mister Terrific sparks a thought in Batman, who decides to investigate further but instructs his colleague to bring someone out of the box......PLASTIC MAN!!!

Now what Bruce means by unstable though i’m not sure (people with his powers are known in fiction to become physically unstable and not be able to hold their form correctly), but Michael’s smile says it all right there, it’s good to have him back.

Snyder pulls out another rabbit from his hat, because if you told me a year ago that Scott Snyder AKA Batman Guy was going to write a story that included Hawkman, Mister Terrific and Plastic Man in it, i would have laughed. This is what good writers can do though, explore the back catalogue and use any character so seamlessly, it’s one of the things i love about Geoff Johns so much.

Batman heads to the Arctic to see Superman in his Fortress. Years ago, Bruce asked Clark if he could have a room in the Fortress of Solitude, and made him also promise never to look at what he put in the room.

Clark was seemingly too nice to question his motives and agreed, and Bruce even shot the key to the room into the sun so no-one could go in there. But now Bruce needs to go into the room, and there’s only one person you can turn to....Scott Free AKA Mister Miracle!

Mister Miracle unlocks the door with ease and peaks at what is inside. He’s shocked, or horrified, or probably both, and tries to warn Bruce but he waves him off and tells him to leave.

I think Scott had a point though, because in the room is a tuning fork tower previously seen in Crisis On Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis. These towers are designed to hone in on frequency that each Earth gives off and have been used to save them and replicate them, and they can potentially destroy them too.

How on Earth did Batman get hold of this though? How is it possible that this exists in the post-Flashpoint universe? So many questions and no answers, but we do know that Batman is about to use the massive tower to try and get a fix on the frequency that is coming off of the metal.

What could possible go wrong?

Meanwhile in Plot B, we join Hal Jordan as he is tasked by Ganthet, a Guardian of the Universe, to investigate rumours of a terrible truth coming to light on Earth and sends him to Wayne Manor. Hal thinks it should be an easy mission, but he doesn’t account for Duke Thomas.

Duke Thomas, not a Robin, is guarding the Batcave and tries to take on a Green Lantern. Poor boy, he didn’t stand a chance. Hal though gives the kid a break and explores a little, finding a secret cave in the Batcave.

“Only Batman would have a secret cave inside his secret cave.”

He’s not kidding.

Hal and Duke explore this secret cave and are confronted by a mysterious voice, that gives them a guided tour of the things they’re about to see and gives us an insight into why Batman is exploring the metal in the first place.

As it turns out, it all started back when Bruce discovered the existence of the Court of Owls in the New 52 series of Batman, also written by Scott Snyder. In issue 7, Bruce discovers that the Talons, the assassins used by the Court are brought back from the dead using a special metal placed in a tooth called Electrum. Dick Grayson actually had one in his mouth for years as he was being groomed as a future Talon by the Court, before Bruce took him in at Wayne Manor.

As this mysterious voice in the secret cave tells Hal and Duke, Bruce was able to extract a strange substance from the tooth he took from Dick and found that it gave off a strange energy signature that was also found in some of the most powerful artifacts in the world.

As you can see from the picture, Bruce has collected Doctor Fate’s helmet (or one of them), a trident-like weapon possibly from Atlantis and a pair of bracers similar to what Wonder Woman wears.

The mysterious voice also mentions another element, Dionesium, a substance that took center stage during another Snyder Batman story known as Endgame.

Snyder is digging in deep to get these threads for his story, a great pair of callbacks to his previous work and again he pulls out another rabbit from his hat and brings back the original Outsiders group in their original line up!

It would be poor form for me not to mention another plot thread from this issue, which shows us the Immortal Man talking to an acquaintance about Elaine Thomas, Duke’s mother. As it turns out, the Immortal Man once offered Elaine immortality and she rejected him, and he has since been watching her with the hope she wouldn’t reveal his secret.

Immortal Man is one of many obscure characters being brought into the Metal event and will later be part of the Dark Matter line up of books, written by James Tynion IV and art from Jim Lee, so it makes sense that he would show up here.

Meanwhile, closing in on their strange tour guide, Hal and Duke make their way through the secret cave and Duke is already putting together who this stranger is.

To their horror they open a door and find a crazed Joker, crudely scratching numbers into a wall and laughing like a maniac. It appears that Bruce has been holding him captive for some time.

As i’ve already said, i love the fact that Snyder has gone outside of his comfort zone of the Batman universe and has used other characters for this story, if anything it really shows the growth he’s made as a writer and the confidence he has now to tell big stories. And this is a big story, make no mistake about it. He still uses the Batman related characters to frame his story but he’s not afraid to make pairings that no-one would do in a million years, i mean come on, Duke Thomas and Hal Jordan? It’s a cool idea!

As for bringing in characters like Mister Terrific and Plastic Man, it’s done so that you’re happy to see these guys return but also uses them in a way that feels integral to the story.

As a prelude to a larger story, this issue does a great job of helping set up the stakes as they are and intriguing us into what the mystery of the metal is going to end up being. I still have lots of questions, especially when it comes to Duke and his All-Star Batman story about him potentially being a meta-human and how his mother fits into this larger story.

As for the artwork, highly serviceable stuff. I’m not John Romita Jr’s biggest fan but his work on this issue is great. As usual Jim Lee owns the pages he draws and Andy Kubert captures the magic of Carter Hall’s life in his pages too.

TL;DR: A wonderfully done prologue to what could be one of the most original and interesting DC events in years, and does great fan service to those who loved Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman series as well as those who love DC in general, with some great surprise characters turning up along the way.

This super-rare and very family-friendly TV series features Juliet Mills as the Nanny who takes care of three children. And one has to wonder if all of the amazing things she is capable of. Is it truly magic as most people believe ? Or is it just love ?

Prudence has a nightmare with a monster named Wiblet, and Nanny helps her overcome her fears.

Butch is negatively influenced by a "hip" kid when the Professor misses another one of his activities.

A new girlfriend of the Professor thinks that Butch and Prudence are not grounded in reality and should be involved in her children's therapy group. Butch tests whether there is a tooth "elf" by not telling his father when he loses a tooth.

Hal gets a telescope for his birthday but Butch is the one who discovers a new comet.

Nanny and the children stage a protest to stop the city from cutting down a favorite tree for a road expansion project.

Professor Everett receives a fabulous job offer from Astrodynamics, but it means moving to Astroville. The children don't want to leave their home, but put a brave face on for their father's sake.

The Professor is contacted out of the blue by an old college girlfriend and isn't sure he's ready to see her again.

Hal feels too much pressure to complete various projects and school work, with a big science competition being foremost, it's making him irritable and miserable. Nanny offers a good luck piece, that acts like a magic amulet that restores his confidence so much he no longer worries at all.

Individualist Ms. Ji Young

Before i’m going to ramble about how much i love this drama i’m gonna explain the summary first.

Jadii drama ini bercerita tentang dua orang tetangga yang tinggal bersebelahan di sebuah apartment di korea selatan. Mereka adalah Na Ji Young dan Park Byuk Soo. Mereka berdua mempunyai kepribadian yang bertolak belakang dimana Na Ji Young merupakan seorang yang individualis dan tidak suka keberadaan orang lain didekatnya sedangkan Park Byuk Soo adalah orang yang sangat sosial, punya banyak teman dan benci kesendirian. Perbedaan inilah yang kemudian mengantarkan mereka pada sebuah hal yang disebut opposite attracts.

Soo here are the reasons:

[Ramble mode: on] 1. Gue pertama suka sama main cast nya yaitu Min Hyorin (Na Jiyoung) dan Gongmyung (Byuk Soo) karena udah pernah liat mereka sebelumnya di variety show dan impresi gue ke mereka bagus.

2. Dari menit-menit awal gue udah curiga drama ini bakalan semacam film2 indie yang super aesthetic itu. Dan ternyata bener!! Which i really like!! Ost nya, latar tempatnya, perpaduan warna, cara pengambilan gambar, editing, semuanya!

3. THE STORYLINE! A solid 10/10!! Shoutout to the writer and producer and all the crews but especially whoever make such a wonderful storyline! Apa ya kaya oringinal banget gitu beda dari yang lain. Dari sekian banyak drama dan film yang gue tonton baru kali ini ada yang ceritanya sebagus ini! kaya bener-bener diangkat dari kehidupan seseorang jadi terkesan super realistis jadi pesan yang mau disampein bener-bener ngena dan dapet banget, buat gue sih terutama. Apalagi drama ini mengangkat cerita tentang seseorang yang sangat individualis which is super rare ada karakter kaya gitu (di drama atau film gitu palingan cuma pemalu atau nerd doang but they’re not really an individualist). Saking individualis nya sampai dia bener-bener menjauhkan diri dari semua orang sampe dia aja gamau nonton bioskop kalo ada orang lain yang nonton jadi dia cuma nonton pas midnight doang pas gaada siapa-siapa lagi. Dia juga gapernah ngobrol sama tetangga atau rekan kerja nya bahkan nyapa balik pun engga. Saking individualis nya nih dia sampe mutusin hubungan sama orangtuanya. She built up a really thick wall, trying to push people away from her trying to be all strong and steady but deep inside she was soo fragile and lonely. It was so hard watching her like that. She was being like that because of her miserable past. Bayangin dong dari umur 8 tahun ayah sama ibunya selalu berantem dan tiap berantem ibunya bilang kalo harus nya dulu dia aborsi aja dan pas udah cerai mereka berdua gaada yang mau ngurus Jiyoung gaada yang mau bawa dia parah banget ga sih sampe akhirnya Jiyoung bilang kalo gaada yang perlu ngurus aku aku tinggal sendiri aja. Dan bener dia dari smp jadi tinggal sendiri orang tuanya gaada yang mau mencegah dia buat pergi.

And suddenly someone came into her life.

Yaitu byuksoo.

Ah gue cinta banget sama byuksoo.

Seseorang kaya Jiyoung butuh banget seseorang se warm byuksoo. She really needs someone who will melt her heart little by little and eventually break that thick wall of her.

Gue suka banget gimana jiyoung sedikit demi sedikit sadar kalo dia suka sama byuksoo dan butuh kehadiran byuksoo.

Gue juga suka gimana pas abis marahan dan dia bilang dia bakalan mgejauh dia akhirnya balik lagi dan ngungkapin semua yang dia rasain.

Gue suka gimana Jiyoung akhirnya nurutin kata hatinya dan mulai membuka dirinya buat byuksoo dan eventually ke orang orang lain.

Gue suka gimana secara tidak langsung byuksoo bisa ngebuat Jiyoung jadi mulai membuka dirinya ke orang lain. Mulai nyapa balik orang lain. Mulai ngobrol bahkan ngasih hadiah ke mereka.

I love how someone can be a better person when they’re falling in love with the right person.

Gue suka gimana perjalanan cinta mereka. Gimana saat byuksoo ingin masuk lebih dalam ke kehidupan jiyoung tapi dengan cara yang salah. Fatal sih menurut gue karena dia buka diary Jiyoung tanpa sepengetahuan dia. Which is super not good karena orang2 kaya Jiyoung sangat menghargai privacy dan gasuka banget kalo privacy nya dirampas orang even mereka itu udah jadi pacar atau malah orangtua sendiri.

Tapi gue suka walaupun sebel banget sih gimana Jiyoung super marah dan nutup hatinya lagi sampe marahin byuksoo dan minta putus dan bikin sakit hati byuksoo banget dengan kata2 yg dia udah ucapin.

I love how they realize how hurts it is to lose each other and not having each other around. I love how after years byuksoo still care for jiyoung still want to know how she is doing by visiting her therapist

and i love how they finally got back together.

Omg this is like the sweetest and purest love story that i’ve ever watched. It brings me laughter joy and a really worth tears.

4. I love their chemistry!! Walaupun aslinya beda 8 tahun lebih tua cewenya tapi chemistry mereka dapet bangeet jadinya ngena banget ceritanya.

5. I love the character development. Ini sebenenernya gajauh beda siih sama kenapa gue suka storyline nya. Film ini mengajarkan kita buat jadi lebih dewasa dan jadi pribadi yang lebih baik dari sebelumnya. All of the struggles and hardships make the character grew into a really better person.

6. I love that it is only 2 episodes HAHAHA one of the reason why i want to watch it in the first place! Gue sekarang tuh suka males nonton drama yang 16 episode gitu apalagi drama yang ada sekarang gaada yg gue suka aktor sm aktris nya HAHA. Plus nonton ini itu = nonton film jadi enak ga ngabisin banyak waktu dan baterai HAHA

7. Apalagi yaa itu aja kayanya deh pokoknya ini tuh top 3 dramas that i’ve ever watched!!! Hope it will be a huge success both in korea and overseas!!!

Ok, I’ve been seeing a lot of opinions on the last episode and especially about the betrayal scene, so I just wanna share how I interpreted it. (And this is not me trying to be disrespectful of people’s opinions at all, I’m just sharing how I feel about the whole scene).

⚠️Obviously spoiler warning for episode 8⚠️

I really think that the changes made to this scene alone were perfect and actually builds upon what will happen in the books. Luke not immediately wanting to kill Percy makes much more sense considering that first and foremost, the entire base of Luke’s reason for wanting to dismantle Olympus, and take the gods out of power, is because he is tired of seeing demigods being treated poorly by their parents. He’s tired of seeing demigods dying left and right just because their parents are too selfish to think about anything other than what they want. He’s tired of the gods (to use the words of Medusa in ep.3) being bullies who believe that they can do no wrong, and who will punish even their own children when they feel threatened or they feel like their pride has been wounded.

Remember Hal? In The Diary of Luke? The first demigod that Luke had to see die because of the way his father punished him unfairly, simply for using his powers to save a friend? The first demigod of whom soon would be many that Luke is unable to save?

If Luke’s whole original meaning behind wanting to bring down the gods was to save demigods like himself, Hal and Thalia; then why would he automatically be trying to kill Percy? It makes much more sense that he originally just wanted to recruit Percy to his side! Besides, why kill Percy when he could potentially have the most powerful demigod alive (that anyone knows of) on his side? He would be absolutely stupid to not take that opportunity and Luke isn’t stupid, he’s actually pretty smart.

So yeah, I’m pretty ok with them leaving out the whole scorpion thing (no matter how much I liked it for joke purposes).

Then we have the fact that this Percy who obviously thinks and feels the same as Luke, still didn’t join Luke in the end.

Yes, Percy feels the same way about the gods. He still doesn’t care for them even after what Poseidon did. However, the main reason that Percy in the show doesn’t join Luke, even when he’s not actively trying to kill him, is because of his up bringing. Because of Sally. They make it a big point in episode 5 and 7 to point out that Sally had been keeping Percy from the world of the gods because she didn’t want them to make him into someone he’s not. She didn’t want to expose him to that world without him first knowing who he truly is and showing him unconditional love. How a family is really supposed to treat each other.

Then, we have Luke. Luke didn’t have any of that. He was only 9 months old before being thrust into the mythical world. All his life he had been exposed to the world of the gods. He never had a mother who was all the way there to show him how family is supposed to behave. He didn’t have any sort of strong pillar there for him. He didn’t have any chance to just take the time to find who he truly was without any influence from the gods. So, Luke fell into the trap of repeating history again.

Percy is able to see this. He’s able to see what Luke is talking about and he’s able to sympathize with him.

But, there is one main difference between them both. Luke knows exactly how the gods are. Having been exposed to their world for so long, he knows how things truly go and the lengths that they would have to go to for any real change to be made. Percy on the other hand, may have been taught a lot by Sally, but he is still naïve when it comes to the gods and how they really work.

Percy still thinks that change can be made without going to such lengths. He still has hope. He’s stubborn and willful to a fault. But most importantly, he’s still a young kid who has just began his journey and who unfortunately hasn’t even seen or felt a fraction of the horrors that this new world has to offer. He still feels like he can be this hero who saves everyone and make everything ok. He still thinks that he can save Luke.

However, as the prophecy says, "you will fail to save what matters most in the end". And if that thing that "matters most" is Luke, then he is technically the first person that Percy can not save. It is the start of Percy’s journey as a hero.

So, yes. Percy still deciding not to join Luke makes sense. Besides, Percy now has Sally back and he has his friends. He still has so much to lose and he knows that he would lose them if he joined Luke. With Percy’s fatal flaw being loyalty, even if it meant that the world would be 100 times better, he would still choose the people he cares about over anything. This is something that we see become more apparent about Percy as the series goes on so it’s cool to see that already being a factor more early on in the story.

And lastly, we have the inclusion of Annabeth being there to hear everything.

I personally don’t know why people are saying that it throws off how she’s supposed to feel about Luke as we go further into the story?

I mean, in the book Annabeth hears about what happened from Percy. When she first hears about it she’s in shock obviously, but when she takes a minute to think about it and get over that initial shock, she still believes Percy. After their first quest, Annabeth has grown to trust Percy so there’s no reason why she would doubt what he says. Yet, throughout the series she still knows deep down that there is a legitimate reason why Luke is doing what he’s doing. She also knows that most of this is caused by Kronos and that Luke is just being used as a puppet.

So, just because she heard everything that was said, doesn’t mean that she can’t still have the same kind of feelings. It doesn’t mean that she can’t feel sympathy for the person who she looked at as a big brother. It doesn’t mean that she can’t understand Luke and what he’s doing. I’d even argue that her hearing what he said would cause her to understand even more. And since they removed the whole thing about Annabeth having a crush on Luke, I feel like her being able to understand what’s truly going on is even more important since we won’t have her blindly following him because of her crush on him.

So my overall verdict? I personally feel that every change made in this specific scene actually makes more sense and flows into what will happen throughout the rest of the story even more.
