questionsf or fic writers meme: 7, 17, 37, 50!
Thank you! :3
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
Hmm... I feel like with the kind of fanfic I write I rarely really get to dive into worldbuilding. I'm more the person who takes 1 randomly mentioned characterization detail of canon and goes to town with it. xD
I am very proud of the Koi Tower eats people headcanon though. Never got to do anything with it yet, but I think it's fun :3
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
There are so many xD
So many highly specific canon divergence scenarios I want to read. Crossover AUs. Plot Derailment Aus.
(a lot of these usually involve someone dying thought....)
But also, I've been toying with a TGCF Gundam AU. I don't have any plot for it, only vibes, but I just think the characters should get to pilot giant robots and have a lot of Drama. and black water arc mecha battle in Space featuring HX stealing a mech he & SQX built together, SQX being the Worst Pilot Ever but also the only one available, and SWD going out in a epic blaze of glory.
I also had an MDZS King's Avatar AU at one point, but all that really featured was WWX getting kicked out of his pro esports team, moving across the street to Wen Qing's internet cafe, and starting over in the game with a new ridiculously overpowered character and building a new pro team with Wen Ning.
Also Pokemon AUs are common enough, but what about Pokemon Conquest AUs! If Pokemon can canonically crossover with Sengoku-era Japan featuring Koei Samurai Warriors, then I think there is potential for an R3K or a Jianghu version!
And also also, Yugioh AU. I cannot write duels to save my life, but I know enough about the game to fantasize about what kind of Yugioh decks characters would have or which clans would focus on which summoning techniques a la Arc-V xD
WWX has a graveyard focused zombie deck. or maybe he invents pendulum summoning in this verse and everyone hates him forever for it
Probably the niche-est AU I have though that very definitely no one other than me would ever read is the Warriors Orochi AU where MDZS characters get summoned to WO3 verse and interact with R3K, Sengoku era & assorted historical/mythological/video game figures. I have had some ideas for 'stages' haha xD
(or maybe a general WO3 mxtx fusion could work. I just really like WO3's plot and stage setups)
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
It's kinda hard to say what a fic deserves but I was always a little sad 'Supporting Role' didn't get a little more love (although it's certainly done better than some of my more recent fics orz). It was a fic that had always been on my mind from the first time I watched The Untamed, and especially after learning how different Meng Yao's role with the Nie was in the novel vs. CQL.
The fic was originally going to have a follow up Nie brothers chapter, but I got a bit discouraged at the initial reception and shelved the idea ^^"
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
Writing has not really been easy for me lately, but I'm slowly getting back into it... though without much success at finishing things. I have a lot of ideas, but it's been more fulfilling to talk about them with people than actually writing them. Oops?
I really want to try writing more longfics though. But also short snippets (au or otherwise) that can just stand alone without 1000s of words of buildup
One day I'll get my mojo back!!

Ok this has been bothering me all day. I saw a post talking about how Rauru and Sonia did more for Zelda than Rhoam did and… I’m once again going to defend Rhoam, cuz that’s a very unfair thing to say and a horrible comparison to make.
Rauru and Sonia helped Zelda with her time powers and learning about the secret stone. Rhoam didn’t help her with her sealing power. Why? Cuz he has no magic and he clearly wasn’t the one who had it. Her mother was the one who had the power and was the one to teach her. Rhoam had no idea what he was doing, he didn’t understand the magic, and he hoped that if she dedicated her life that it would awaken so that the calamity wouldn’t destroy their home.
Well he should’ve tried to help her anyways right? Well, yes it’s easy to say that, unfortunately Rhoam was put in a very bad position of being king with the looming threat of the APOCALYPSE!!!! I think it’s implied that Rhoam married into the family, since his wife had the sealing power from the blood of the goddess or whatever, and seeing how he’s Hylian, he wasn’t a prince from another kingdom since all other kingdoms in this world have small round ears. For all we know, he was a prince consort who was never raised to be king. We don’t know what he was doing before, but with his wife’s sudden death and the responsibility of protecting his kingdom, he didn’t make the right choices. Which isn’t an excuse, but in his position, it’s an explanation. Rauru and Sonia didn’t have an apocalypse threatening to happen, in fact, they were in an era of peace and the future seemed bright. Of course they had time to hang out with Zelda and have tea parties with her. They seemed to be relaxed and having fun, which makes sense seeing how there didn’t seem to be much of a threat to their kingdom, minus Ganondorf, but I don’t think either of them saw him as a huge threat, seeing how they were absolutely blindsided by him.
It’s implied in AOC that Rhoam shouldered all of the responsibilities of the kingdom, and it seemed that he was under a significant amount of pressure during the calamity. And I feel like he mostly did that so Zelda could focus on awakening her power. She didn’t seem to have many responsibilities as princess save for awakening her power and helping out the champions. She is barely 17 so it makes sense that she’s not ruling the kingdom, but I do feel like Rhoam did all that stuff so she could focus on the calamity itself. And I’m sure in his stress he grew frustrated whenever Zelda focused more on the machines than awakening her power. Which was not the right thing to do, but come ON the world is literally about to end and the ONLY piece of the puzzle they need is Zelda!!! Some people forget that she HAD to awaken her powers otherwise the world was going to be destroyed! And it almost was cuz they were awakened too late! They were in such an unfair situation! And it’s not fair to compare him to Rauru and Sonia who were not in the same situation he was in, who were lying around in the grass and drinking tea because the calamity wasn’t there.
Rhoam is such a well written character that acts the way you’d expect someone in his situation to act. And he has so much regret over some of the things he’s had to do to protect Hyrule. You can read it in his journal where he finally gives up and desires to act more like a father to Zelda, you can see it when he takes Terrako away from Zelda, and you can see it when he’s a ghost 100 years after everything is destroyed. He’s so guilty but he did what he thought was best so that Zelda could not have a throne to nothing, so that Hyrule will be safe. And there’s a lot of things he could’ve done better, but people don’t act rational under that much stress. Like come on, would you? Don’t lie you absolutely wouldn’t.
And this post isn’t meant to diss on Rauru and Sonia, I like them in their own ways. But it’s kinda dumb whenever people love complex characters and then turn around and hate on characters like Rhoam and make them completely one-dimensional when they’re not. Y’all are completely unfair to Rhoam.

there are no visuals in wolf 359, technically, but the sound design is so efficient at evoking such vivid and specific science fiction environments that it's hard not to feel like that, too, serves as some sort of commentary on the humans-without-humanity technological aspirations of cutter & pryce, in contrast with the average people that goddard employs.
the hephaestus is blinking lights and dials and crt monitors and clutter; it has the background noise, the static and jank and creaking metal of old, clunky, cobbled-together retrofuturism. it's a spacecraft that exists in a world where space travel is old enough for all its technology to be out of date. it's the bridge of the nostromo, it's the millennium falcon with its faulty hyperdrive, it's the bebop. it's the paper print-outs; it's their on-board entertainment of one single vhs copy of home alone 2. the hephaestus is falling apart, it's hostile to human life, it's rotting from the inside, but it's both alive and lived in.
the sol is white and sleek and sterile. everything meticulously in place, and all conveniences the hephaestus is too old and too unimportant to qualify for - artificial gravity, cutter's designated smoking section, etc. the sol is also hostile architecture, but not through years of neglect; it's designed that way. it's progress without people. eiffel calling pryce 'lady imacbeth' is funny, but also, like - yes! the sol, and goddard futuristics laboratories, all of that, should look like the inside of an apple store, and pryce is the same thing, personified.
this isn't to romanticize an idealized past, but - aside from the class differential, the corners goddard cuts, the way both the hephaestus and its crew are treated as disposable assets - i think as a form of visual (or auditory) shorthand, there is something to eiffel's attachment to physical, antiquated things, technology he can fix by hand, and what that reflects as resistance to streamlined advancements, the "greater good" with the least concern for the individual. that he's unbearably nostalgia-brained about his pop culture, and that he's an analog man who is concerned with real, genuine, tangible connection and communication in the face of increasingly arcane, "big picture" capitalist-driven digitization and alienation.
