Sorry again or my absence the last few days, I got some... interesting news when i checked my messages after I finished unpacking, as well as some unexpected guests. The latter at least was quite pleasant once a few misconception had been cleared up. It also led to i think one of the funniest images I've ever been sent by security.

That's one way to make an entrance hah.

Quote
Katherine of Aragon’s last letter, her famous and much quoted last letter is almost certainly a fake. It was reported as Actual History, by Fraser, Weir etc. in their popular histories right up until recently but if you look carefully, Fraser was really evasive about it in her footnotes, and Weir liked to mention it but skip by very quickly. If this document was ever considered in any detail there’s a tendency to say the sources for it aren’t great (while not actually saying what they are).  It wasn’t until Giles Tremlett’s Catherine of Aragon (first published in 2010 after the last season of The Tudors aired) that anyone nailed their colours to the mast and called it ‘almost certainly a fabrication.’. Which is a shame, because it’s great, and The Tudors went all out on it. Hirst actually improved on it with some subtle editing, softening the tone a bit, and moving the bit about finances to the beginning to make the whole end of the letter a loving speech to Henry. And Doyle Kennedy’s performance is amazing, allowing a well spring of love to flow through the words.

when ur like 5 or 6 a not insignificant amount of your time is spent fucking with wood chips. like those are your homies. they smell bad when it rains and sometimes people throw them at you or just in general. everybody knows that one kid who has a favorite wood chip. i don't know if that's true i don't fuck with being 5 or 6 at this point in my life anymore. but it feels like stuff like that used to happen. but then one day u don't mess with them at all anymore. the alternative to a woodchip when ur a kid is sometimes like weird asphalt foam stuff that is slightly colorful and gets too hot. where does all of that stuff go? it gets chemically turned into cardboard boxes that contain things like "door dash orders" and "100 copies of the new nintendo game". there's kids out there right now eating wood chips. or like sometimes a wood chip would get into a place where a wood chip wasn't supposed to go: such as, the bathroom, or maybe even, the class room. you gotta think about stuff like, does the principal of a school, call the wood chip place? i need some wood chips down here? or like a church? when i was a kid i imagined there was some sort of playground manufacturing position and maybe a hard hat government employee would come and he would handle all of the wood chips forever. but by like the 6th year of a school's life time it might be safe to assume any singular wood chip has been inside of at least half of the school's mouth. what if you took a wood chip home and did weird stuff with it? that's just the kind of possibilities that are extant in wood chips, and i'm afraid not a single person is going to think about any of this stuff in as soon as 100 years.

Hello! I'm trying to draw something for a friend. Both of our characters live in the late 1720s. They both have regular outfits, but I want to draw them wearing something fancy. My friend has described his character as having a very bad sense of fashion. I can't really picture what a bad outfit back then would look like. Do you?
Hello! Well I haven't got all that much of a feel for what might have been considered a bad outfit back then, but there is one image that immediately comes to mind of someone who's very definitely badly dressed, and it's this guy. From the 4th panel of Hogarth's Marriage A la Mode (1743-45).
Tumblr media
His individual garments look fine to me, but they're horribly mismatched! (And a bit old fashioned for the mid 40's.) You'll note that the coat cuffs are made of a large brocade that contrasts with the main body of the coat, which was very popular in the first half of the century, but that style was meant to be worn with a matching waistcoat in the same brocade. Instead he's got a completely plain waistcoat that doesn't match at all.
And the breeches should match the main coat fabric, but his don't! The black and brown and beige clash awfully. He's also got a lot more rings and a much bigger & sparklier earring than I've seen on any other guy from the era, which I speculate might have been tack and/or un-masculine, but I have no sources so don't quote me on that. I just know that when 18th century guys are wearing rings in a portrait it's usually just one, and I've only ever seen simple little hoop earrings in a very few portraits. But again, emphasis on the "speculate" part of that sentence.
(And I've just noticed that the guy next to him has curling papers in his hair, which I think is probably also meant to make him look silly and not properly dressed. No idea what the opinion would have been about the folding fan dangling from the wrist of the next guy over, but it is intriguing. The very large beauty spot on his lip is probably meant to look bad though.)
That painting is a bit later than what you're asking about, but the style of matching cuffs & waistcoat was popular in the 20's too, so here are some examples of what it's supposed to look like. A lot of them are very elaborate brocades paired with a solid dark coloured velvet, but sometimes it's a contrasting plain fabric with a ton of metal embroidery.
Tumblr media
(1725)

(1723)
Tumblr media
And an extant c. 1730's example from the NMS collection.
You might also look at 1710's images, because being a decade behind the current fashions would certainly make you badly dressed for the era.
Tumblr media
(c. 1715-20)
So, I guess just put them in clashing parts of 2 or 3 different matched suits? (I am assuming you're asking about suits, since this ask was sent to me and I do not know very many things about dresses. Mostly only what I absorb from other costumers who post about it, and barely anyone does early 18th century.)
Please note that this does not apply to the 1780's-90's, fashion plates from those decades are incredibly full of clashing and mismatched suits. (Though it would probably still be bad to wear those ones on a very formal occasion.)

And here, as promised to the dear @vinceaddams come a lot of extant Garments from my recent Visit at the German National Museum in Nuremberg. I am trying to give as much Information about each Picture as I can though unfortunately not all of the Pictures were taken by me and I could take Pictures as extensively (including Info Signs) as I would have wanted, lest I be abandoned in the Clothing Section. Also the whole Section was awfully dim, which made it rather difficult to read some of the Signs. The last three Pictures were taken in a different Section, thus the more pleasant Lighting.
Servant Livery, bavarian Court, mid 19th Century (left); Servant of the Count of Cannotreadhisname, first half 19th Century (right)
Woman's Folkdress, Lötschental/Wallis (Switzerland), Museum dates it 1830/1905 which is an awfully broad Range, but maybe it was altered later; shows wonderfully how late 18th Century Styles were preserved in european Folkdress that came to be in the 19th Century proper
Various Men's Garments throughout the 18th Century, as there are Closeups of each, the respective Detailinformation will be provided further down.
Men's Spencer, c. 1810s-1820s, Linen and Cotton, the Sign didn't say it explicitely but due to it's Placement in the Exhibition and comparable other Pieces I have seen, I think this is more of a common Man's Piece of Clothing.
Three Men's Shirts, various Shoebuckles, a cocked Hat, a Periwig and what I assume to be a Hair Bag. This Display Case had a rather badly illuminated Sign, so sadly I have no further Details about the Pieces.
Justeaucorps, c. 1695, Wool, Silk, Metal Trim.
Waistcoat, c. 1695, Silk, according to the Museum it was worn together with the Justeaucorps, which seems to be a nice Colour-Combination.
Breeches, 1790-1800, Silk. Very pretty Pair, but the bad Lighting doesn't really let it show.
Habit à la francaise, c. 1790, Wool, Silk, Embroidery (What a Material Specification...). I really like the Combination of those subtle dark on dark Stripes and the Embroidery.
Tailcoat, c. 1790/1795, Cotton, Silk, Linen, really peak 1790s Look honestly.
Very wide Court Panniers, with Pocket Hoops and Crinoline in the Background. Alas no Detail Information for this and the next two Pictures.
Frontal View of the Pannier. I suppose I have to get one of those at some Point, if only for how extra they are.
Three Pairs of Stays, two from the Front, one from the Back. Sadly I don't feel confident enough to Date those and I have no Pictures showing the Info Signs well enough.
Lots of pretty Dresses that were exhibited in another Section of the Museum. The right one is a Robe à l'Anglaise, but that's all I can tell.
Another beautiful Anglaise, notable for being preserved in its Entirety with original Ruffles.
More pretty Dresses. Unfortunately due to Time Reasons I have no Pictures of the Suits displayed across the Dresses in the U-shaped Display, though I have to say one of them had a very much not authentic Lacebib hanging from the Neck...
That's all the cool Clothing Pics I have, at some Point I will return and take loooots more Pictures from all the Angles too. Also at some Point I might write to the Museum about the Lighting, there surely is a better Solution when having your Objects barely visible with unreadable Signs while still protecting them from UV-Rays.
Bonus-Pic 1:
Tumblr media
Me, in historical Dress, c. 1750 (minus the Shoes), standing in a historical Kitchen.
Bonus-Pic 2, for the Boat-Crowd:
Tumblr media
Beautifully detailed Modell Sailing Ship, early to mid 17th Century if I remember correctly. Interestingly enough all the little Sailor Figurines on it were very much early 19th Century in Style, so I assume the previous owner had those added at some Point, before the Museum acquired the Model in the late 19th Century. (The Incongruence sadly wasn't addressed on the Info Sign, so I might contact them about this too.)

☆Update 2:☆
I remembered to take pics today! Sort of. Only after i had put away my machines and stuff...
Here are (most) of my edwardian undergarments
(i am wearing modern clothes under bcs the internet is weird)
Chemise, bustle pad, underbust corset, petticoat
I still need to make a corset cover someday, ive just been using a second thin chemise over all this:
Tumblr media
I used these vintage buttons on the cuffs. I wanted some more security but ran out of buttons so i used small snaps:
Tumblr media
Also put one on the collar so i could try it on. I think the placket at the back of the blouse is a little ugly and larger than ive seen in extant garments but i forgot to adjust the pattern for my broad shoulders and need the extra width for comfort.
Tumblr media
I tried on the blouse and skirt together:
Tumblr media
I may need to loosen the waistband of the skirt, the corset is a bit bulkier than i thought itd be. Also the blouse is just stuffed into the skirt and currently only has one closure on at the collar so it looks a little bit disproportionate. The belt/sash will help smooth everything out so i dont look like im drowning in voile.
I might go without the bustle pad during the final shoot because i think it gives too much volume in the waist/hip area for edwardian tastes. Its from an 1890s pattern, so the silhouette is a bit out of date. I should probably try the skirt on without the pad before extending the waistband though.
Im pretty happy with how the sleeves turned out! I have some vintage nottingham lace i bought on etsy from penelope textiles that i was going to add to another project. I think ill sew some different laces together and add it to the cuffs to elongate them a bit. Since this dress is supposed to be from roughly 1905, i want the sleeves to look as they wouldve in that time. The photos ive seen mostly feature large ruffles at the ends of elbow-length sleeves but i dont think ill be likely to wear ruffles very often. Ive also seen tighter cuffs that extend from the elbow to mid-forearm or from the elbow to wrist. I think the elbow-length sleeves are a feature of afternoon dresses but i could be wrong. Maybe that was just day dresses? Not sure.
Im also not sure if i want to get gloves/a hat/parasol for this project. On one hand, it would look really cool for the video. On the other hand, it sounds quite expensive and i doubt ill wear it again. I dont want to buy things i wont use and create waste, theres enough of that in fashion. I have a pink 1900s parasol that i might cover with black fabric, but idk.
Tumblr media
There isnt much left to do! Im gonna make a list here so i have it written somewhere:
-sew snaps onto blouse
-finish blouse hem
-attatch lace cuffs
-press pleats on sash/belt
-order synthetic whalebones
-add bones, hook/bars to belt
This is just the sewing tasks though, i need to edit the video clips and record audio. I have no idea how to do any of this. I just downloaded davinci video editor so hopefully i can figure it out. The only experience i have with video making/editing was in 3rd grade on ipads on the imovie app. Ive just been binge watching bernadette banner videos bcs i love her video style.
Any tips/feedback are much appreciated! ♡

Another interesting component of John Laurens's left-handed letter is that it contains a fairly intact seal. The seal bears the image of a right-facing profile of a man. I am not sure who the man is supposed to be. It doesn't bear much resemblance to the extant portraits of John Laurens. It does remind me of the profiles of emperors featured on Roman currency, so perhaps it's some sort of Classics reference?
Additionally, I am not sure if this would have been Laurens's personal seal or a seal of someone in Washington's camp. While Laurens wrote the letter himself, the letter was clearly addressed by another hand. Perhaps it was addressed and/or sealed by Colonel Harrison (presumably Robert Hanson Harrison), who carried the letter to Henry Laurens.

y'know, I read that trolls don't usually consider other trolls using familial like 'brother'.
Do you consider your brother this way because of a lack of overarching social structure and social pressures being the last two trolls, or some other extant situation?
i mean, i sUppose so. the two of Us were raised aroUnd plenty of hUman cUltUre growing Up so i began to think of him as my brother. we still experience plenty of social pressUres, jUst of a different sort.
Tumblr media
he technically woUldn’t coUnt as my brother if we were raised in hUman society either! we’ve thoUght of each other as family for so long thoUgh that i don’t think i coUld think of him any other way even if i wanted to.
sometimes I hate him so mUch that i wish we had never been related, bUt he’s the only brother i’ve ever had so i gUess i will have to pUt Up with him. upu

Just read your eridan essay. I left a lot of words in the tags (sorry about that btw. I'm @kitkat-not-karkat, those were my tags) and I just. Holy fucking shit man.
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING IT INTO WORDS. Like. Genuinely. Thank you.
That said, do you have any ideas on why Eridan might specifically flirt as a sort of default response sometimes? (I really hope I'm not misremembering that, the fandom bastardizes the poor guy to be Cronus 2.0-)
I have my own personal speculation here, but I'd love to see your take on it!
I think it's a few things all working in tandem, and I think you definitely nailed at least most of it! I do agree that a huge part of his fixation on romance is the fact that a romantic partner is "supposed" to stick around, and Eridan is simply desperate for attention and friendship.
There are a lot of people who idealize relationships and believe that they're the "fix" or "solution" to their emotional problems, and Eridan's obsession with blackrom in particular (where the caligulas part of his trolltag comes from) definitely has shades of that. A kismesistude is an outlet for violent urges, as well as a romantic interest who ideally doesn't ghost you or leave you alone (cough Vriska cough), and one of the two concupiscent quadrants that needs to be filled so you don't get culled.
An interesting thing is constantly being implied within the comic, which is that moirallegiance is actually kind of the most important quadrant for trolls, but their culture has de-emphasized it in favor of the two breeding-related quads. After all, since adult trolls don't have to raise their own young, what Karkat calls "mating fondness" is biologically much less imperative to their species compared to the quadrant that keeps volatile trolls from going berserk and killing people.
Moirallegiance is always treated with a sort of mysticism - it's called "magical" by the narration in relation to Kanaya and Vriska's moirallegiance while that's still extant, it's the only quadrant described as "soul mates," and in contrast to "mating fondness," Karkat mentions the "mystical forces governing moirallegiance." Moirails - Equius and Nepeta being confirmed, but I genuinely believe that that's what Feferi and Sollux would have resolved to in that hypothetical golden ending - are also the quad that spends the most time together, rather than the two concupiscents. The initial description of the pale quadrant even outright says that the attraction is "instinctive." There's something magical and destiny-laden in a moirallegiance that just isn't there to the same extent in the other three quads.
But in Alternian society, kindness, guilt, and the other kinds of things you'd share with a moirail are considered weakness, especially for highbloods. When Feferi is breaking up with him, Eridan flips out the hardest at the implication that she felt the need to take care of him, insisting that he was perfectly fine. I think this is the reason, in addition to the painful breakup, that Eridan never pursues pale relationships, even though a moirail is what he desperately needs. Instead, he pursues the much more societally acceptible pitch quadrant, which can serve a similar purpose of discharging some of his pent-up aggression.
Moreover, his flirting isn't nearly as relentless as people think it is, although he IS both really stubborn AND really socially inept, which makes it difficult both to get a "no" through his brain, AND to make it stick. Another part of it is that he's operating at very little self-awareness, which means he'll often be doing something without consciously realizing it. Also, he's desperate as hell, and has basically no ability to differentiate good and bad attention. This leads to a pretty messy cocktail that basically means:
He'll hit on anyone at least once (desperation), with the exception of people it would be really weird to hit on, for example, their dancestors, who are way older than them.
If a rejection is not made excruciatingly clear, he probably won't register it as a rejection (dumbassery).
Nearly any attention he gets might be misinterpreted as flirting, even after a rejection is made (desperation, also, can't differentiate between good and bad attention).
Even after a rejection is made and he logically understands it and outright says he respects it, he might still act in a flirtatious way unconsciously (zero self awareness).
Because he will hit on anyone at least once, and is constantly making things weird and leaping to "romance?" even when there's no flirtatious intent, people kind of assume he's always hitting on them, even when he isn't.
His emotions always running at a fever pitch, and the lack of self-awareness he cultivates in order to help deal with his horrible cognitive dissonance, mean that even HE'S not sure about his real feelings. He's always feeling SOMETHING very, very intensely (it's the trauma and anxiety), which he mistakes for true caliginous hatred, or fevered flushed intent. Unlike Cronus, who's basically just trying to get some action, Eridan genuinely feels something for people, and his extreme lack of emotional intelligence means he has no idea how to parse his own tempestuous emotions. He always leaps to feverish concupiscent attraction because that's just how intense his emotions run at any given moment.
#4 is happening to Feferi and Sollux, IMO, while Rose never properly rejected him, so he still thinks they have a chance, and the same happened with Vriska when she started ghosting him post-kismesistude. #5 can be seen in his last memo with Karkat, where Karkat starts to wonder if past!Eridan was redflirting with him by inviting him to LOWAA, even as Eridan himself has no idea what the fuck Karkat is talking about.
Thing is, he DOES actually accept rejections once he gets them through his thick skull, which sets him apart from Cronus, who gets rejected, knows it, and keeps going. It's just... Eridan's messy. His emotions are all over the place, and too big for his stupid body, so he's always making things weird and intense.
I blame his lusus, personally. In a previous post, I talk about how a huge factor in his inability to identify negative attention is because he's basically being emotionally neglected. This has also led to his desperation for attention in general. When combined with the trauma from all the murdering and the pressure society puts on him to fit into a certain mold, it leads to some pretty explosive emotional ourbursts, of which his intense, insistent, and downright uncomfortable flirting is a major facet, but also, only a facet.

Um. I have found another (more subtle) tagging issue in the au list. The link for fake cryptid and real romantic leads to a version of the tag which is... misspelled? Which honestly would not be an issue except as far as I can tell half the currently extant bits of fic for that au are under the misspelled tag and a different half are under the non-misspelled tag which I only found out existed by accident and neither tag has all currently extant bits (that I know of, there might be more under another tag I haven't yet found) and I figured you would also like being aware of that. Tagging is hard and frustrating I am sorry I keep finding things like this :(
wHOOPS, thank you, friend! Hopefully that's fixed now too, think I got it all corrected. Please enjoy this WIP excerpt from fake!CrypTim to display my appreciation. ❤ Trust me, though, you do not need to be sorry, I VERY much appreciate you noticing the link issues.
Tim is a very prepared person. That's how he keeps up with rogues and metahumans and aliens and demigods. He has contingency plans for everything.
He does not have a contingency plan for Superman's five month, two week, and six day-old clone deciding to develop a crush on one of the Gotham cryptids and give said "cryptid" a diamond about it. That was not a thing that was a thing on his radar. Ever.
Maybe Superboy is just trying to make friends, Tim tries to tell himself. Superman is one of the closest things that the Batman has to a friend, so it makes sense if Superboy wants to make friends with Robin. He probably thinks he's supposed to, right? He doesn't know that much about the world yet, and he was built to follow in Superman's footsteps; live up to his example.
But it's heart-shaped. And also Superboy just explicitly mentioned flowers. And he keeps blushing.
And Superman has definitely, definitely never given the Batman a heart-shaped diamond that he made with his own freaking hands.
Tim is pretty sure that this is not Superboy just trying to make friends.
What even is his life right now? Seriously. What is it, and how did it happen?

Would A Tyrantrum Be A Good Pet?
Tumblr media
Absolutely not :(
Of course, it’d be really difficult to have a tyrantrum as a pet, given that they are extinct and only lived in the wild 100 million years ago… mostly (Y). There have been efforts to restore the species through DNA found in fossils, but the technology with the capability to do so is rare (and surely expensive), and these restorations have been, sadly, incomplete (Ultra Sun). There is one place in the world where tyrantrums still wonder freely, that being the mysterious Crown Tundra of the Galar Region. This, however, doesn’t make a lot of sense, but we’ll get into that a little later. As usual when it comes to prehistoric pokémon species, we’ll assume that you are able to find a way to adopt one. Would they be a good pet? Again, absolutely not.
For one, tyrantrums were pretty huge. At over eight feet tall, this pokémon would have a hard time fitting inside most homes, and would be a pain to get around considering their average weight of nearly six hundred pounds. From what we understand of the species, they weren’t very friendly and likely wouldn’t be the nicest to humans: they are said to have been vicious (Sword) and unruly. This species was the apex predator of their time, and acted like a king among the creatures of their home (Y), so good luck getting them to listen to you, a tiny, weak ape. They may even try to eat you!
And, if they wanted to, they absolutely could. Tyrantrums boasted a massive set of jaws with enough strength to “shred thick metal plates as if they were paper” (X) or even crush a car (Ultra Moon). If a tyrantrum bit you, you’re… uh… done for. They use their jaws to make use of some truly menacing moves, like Bite and Crunch, which, given their size, could certainly be lethal. Being rock-type pokémon, this species’ lethal capabilities don’t end there: using moves like Rock Slide, Ancient Power, and Earthquake, they could do significant damage to both you and your home. The risk of keeping a tyrantrum around is simply too great.
Now, this doesn’t play into their pet rank very much, but it is an interesting point that I’d like to explore for a moment: as previously stated, tyrantrums can still be found, living and breathing, in the Galar Region’s Crown Tundra. But this doesn’t make sense! You see, the pokédex explains that efforts to restore the species through DNA cloning have been incomplete: the cloned tyrantrums lack the feather-like coat that ancient tyrantrums are theorized to have had (Ultra Sun). But the extant tyrantrums in the Crown Tundra also don’t have this feather coat! Does this mean that the species evolved to lose their feather coat over time? Are the specimens found in the Crown Tundra actually modern clones, rather than being a natural population? Are the theories about tyrantrums having feathers wrong? It’s very confusing. How does this affect their pet rank? Uh…. Well, I suppose if your tyrantrum has feathers it may shed a lot? I don’t know, I just wanted to point out the curious inconsistency in the data.
Anyways, overall, a tyrantrum would absolutely not make a good pet. This is a pokémon whose size and power gives them countless ways to just absolutely end you, and their vicious, kingly behavior indicates that you’d have a hard time getting them not to. This was/is a majestic, fascinating species, but it wouldn’t make a good house pet.

brutality, no survivors.... incredible suffering for the girlies (you, me, JP twitter)
and here I thought shenanigans would continue... this promo image was an immediate punch at 6AM
Tumblr media
and yet this was all things considered the easy part...? ugh, but... please a moment to drink it in... all of my beliefs in the true power exchange... it's so satisfying to see it like this. it's easy, simple to still Tsukasa, isn't it... towering, presiding older brother.... his joudai trailing... touch your seal... the virtue by which you are kept safe, kept his. Poor Tsukasa. covetous object...!
Tumblr media
a rascal....! uhh I love pocket-sanding Akane with old man parts ... amazing technique ahaha, Tsukasa knows how to make people lose focus huh? he's in such a good mood isn't he~ not as resentful as he was towards Mirai pestering him...
mirai explode lol.... I can't say I feel much personally, I guessed she might do this ... it's sweet of her to protect Akane, but I can't think much of it, beyond what it contributes to how we should feel about her. Noble rat after all? not so dumb as Akane had said before?
Mirai holding the yorishiro makes sense, for why she's typically locked in their boundary without any freedom. sure... easy. another key to haunt us! more keys why NOT
I like to see Natsuhiko being cool like this ... ♥
but this is so interesting...
Tumblr media
I'm never sure how much Mitsuba really understood about the Broadcast club's greater plans... I wonder if Natsuhiko is being literal here, and Mitsuba DID know what he had to do, but had settled on his suicidal ennui.... ah, having to analyze your life for something precious is grim... he has an issue of not appreciating what he has while he has it, and being unable to state it...
Tumblr media
.... and there's nobody to correct him. This is such a manga about... 'reasons'....
among the things even possible.. that poor keychain was destroyed. I wonder if there were a few things going on in Mitsuba's mind even then...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really like... that mysteries, kaii need something anchoring them... I like that it's not enough, to exist... I like that the body naturally dilapidates, 'wants' to move on or become something else. It's a great metaphor....! In this manga... the most important thing, is loving something. If you don't love something, you can't stay alive. You won't....
I'm still wondering if the original thing Kou gave Mitsuba back in vol. 7 will ever come back around... or if it just gave him a complex or curiosity about the 'old' Mitsuba (who he snoops on in PP after this, so....) ... and can't itself be precious so much as worming...
Tumblr media
anyhow... I like this turn of events, but it is so shocking we're stacking handling No. 3 and also No. 1!!!! I can't believe it!!!! IT'S ALL HAPPENINGGGG?????!?!? We haven't stacked mysteries like this before ~~!!!! It's so exciting.... I like Natsuhiko a lot in all of this ♥ I don't know... like with Tsukasa and Mitsuba, I believe him that he found it all charming in its own way, and that he wanted to offer what he could to Mitsuba for the timebeing. It's not as if there are other options, here... Mitsuba... really was never doing the things that needed to be done.... or letting others know what he needed to do.
I suppose Natsuhiko could wake up Kou to watch this if he wanted, but I find it much funnier if Kou just has to wake up at the end of this and Mitsuba is eradicated... lol...
can't say I really understand Teru's position about the mysteries...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you understand the mysteries are a kind of structural pillar for this region, but the pressure that was weighing on Hanako at least seemed to be the Minamoto ... it was that imperative the Broadcast Club's been taking advantage of. The rumors created an excuse to justify the sense of mistrust in the mysteries. But I'll never quite know what Teru is even capable of ... since he shouldn't be able to touch yorishiro ... but directly threatens to exorcize mysteries. Can you have extant yorishiro without the mysteries utilizing them.... ??? Well, I just don't understand it yet.... must put it aside.
back to what really matters...
Tumblr media
I love how peaceful, relieved, serene he looks here.... finally, you've been so patient, Tsukasa... every little step of this has taken so long.... holding the last yorishiro in your hands... trusting Amane to handle you, after... it must feel good. The end in sight....
I really love this reach for Amane's knife...
Tumblr media
back in this position, are we?
Tumblr media
ah.... poor Amane. For a moment... I appreciate what he's trying to do, here. He sounds patient... he sounds like an older brother. Explaining so cleanly...
Tumblr media
you want to be sure Tsukasa understands... maybe you think-- he hasn't thought this through, or he doesn't get the consequences, he's being childish, or reckless, maybe he's misunderstood how it happened before ... I love to hear Amane, say something so direct as... won't see you again.... won't be able to save you ... everything he did last time! to ensure... that you wouldn't be apart! the binding of their souls! tying Tsukasa down to him like a ship in a storm! protection, mooring... keeping you, where he can see you! remaining together, at all costs! that's important to you too, right, Tsukasa? don't you want to see each other?
Tumblr media
it's as if you're saying you don't want to be together, don't want to be saved... what do we do with people who don't ask you to save them? why must they insist on leaving you behind?
Mitsuba won't ask Kou to save him. Sumire wouldn't ask Hakubo to save her. Aoi didn't want Akane to save her. I wonder if Tsukasa didn't ask Amane to save him, but Amane did it anyway... her certainly wasn't asking for a hero in the Red House, or to live on coming back.
it's a kind of rejection, isn't it? When someone is so ambivalent about the life you love so much... the life you want with them... it's as if they're saying, "I don't want to be with you enough to live for you."
Of course, every time, they're really saying ... "I just don't know what I mean to you." Mitsuba doesn't feel valuable to Kou; only a replacement, a reminder of something he once cared about. Best to give up. Sumire imagined Hakubo was only placating her, and could only wish not for his earnest sadness, but for him to pretend to be sad for her. Best to let death happen. and Aoi didn't feel Akane knew the real her, imagined he would reject the real Aoi, only in love with his grand projection of her. Best to step away now.
Of course, Tsukasa thought his brother hated him, so...
It all feels so simple and logical! It's saving trouble, right?
Amane made such a gesture last time... in their shinjuu... he tried, he really tried, to say something ... to Tsukasa.
but, the message didn't go through...
but I can only be so sympathetic to Amane, as he's an incredible hypocrite. Of course, Amane has put Nene-chan through everything Tsukasa puts him through.
You also try to grant your beloved a wish for a future that explicitly doesn't involve you, and make her feel rejected, abandoned, given no choice...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amane...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh, Yugi twins....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.... why can't you understand when you're precious? Why can't you understand how bad it hurts, to abandon somebody? Amane-chan really suffered without you, Tsukasa. You're always the one leaving him, and getting to feel sacrificial about it. He's trying to tie you down....
.... it's a natural response... to lash out. Rejected... misunderstood... abandoned... why is Tsukasa asking you to give up on him? Why can't he understand, even with that seal on his cheek... even as you died with him....
Tumblr media
兄の思いは届かず…
I really love that for the chapter's end.
Amane's feelings never did reach Tsukasa. It wasn't understood, what he had tried to do, his sadness now. But... Amaneeeee....
maybe you could use a taste of your own medicine....
Tumblr media
we think we know just how to make someone else's wish come true, don't we?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
isn't it such an insult! WHY!!!!!! """"WHY""""""??????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
..... I'm out of images, so I'll continue in a reblog, for a couple more thoughts I'm having ....
but for this post... ahhhh. It's unbelievable we're at least starting to tackle... this. I feel bad for Amane, I really do... I feel bad for Tsukasa, too. It's hard to not hurt someone you love ... in an attempt to only hurt yourself. If we hurt ourselves, we hurt the thing our lover adores ... we spit on their love for us.
I can understand why and how Amane can say "I hate you" ... to Tsukasa. As much as Akane could childishly say it to Aoi ... and you know, it is that same unimaginable love which makes it possible. Years of familiarity, it makes you more liable to lash out. There is such a greater sense of betrayal, when you've expended so much effort... when you try so hard for someone... when you're in so much pain about them....! After all I've done... you CAN'T say this or that to me.... etc, etc! Those intense emotions... can make you feel entitled, to never be hurt... you can't hurt me, after all I've hurt for you!
and I do think it's being said extremely childishly... daikirai... he's just, unable to be any more constructive with his feelings, he's so... hurt, mad. As much as Nene-chan is so mad, hearing Hanako spit on all of her efforts she made to reach him... BIG SLAP!!!
Amane, he's maybe endured 50 years of effort and an awful lot of physical suffering for Tsukasa, and it's not gotten through... wwww! I'm sorry, I'm worried Tsukasa might have a PROFOUND amount of suicidal urge. Might be an uphill battle, Amane... you might just need to save Tsukasa because you are selfish, and you want him for yourself. There might be no easier reason ... to keep him by your side. We can't make Tsukasa beg to stay with you... but you won't beg him to stay, will you? I think that would actually do a lot of good, Amane... but you really won't do that....
meanwhile, I love the juxtaposition of Nene-chan's incredibly childish DAI DAI DAISUKIII and this daikirai lol... we all have big feelings don't we lol....! well...

Is it weird to post the same stuff I do on Twitter, like the text I mean, like I was thinking how cool it'd be to have a god or immortal character with stag beetle like horns but then again there's bug people in Extant so maybe they could be an important figure.

Coptic Women's Headpieces: padded headbands and Palmyran strips
Neither of these have much (...in the first case, any) information out there to make their own post about, but they're both interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first are these padded headpieces. In the past I'd only seen the one made of leather with flowers on it in the V&A, which notes its possible usage. However it was only until recently when I began poking around on the French internet when I found more, and better yet, an undeniable depiction of a woman wearing the headpiece. Before this I'd seen some depictions that may be the headpiece being worn, but usually seem much flatter than these were made to be or like they're a more standard gold diadem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to this, there are a few depictions of Coptic figures wearing these flower bud/petal crowns (more popular in the earlier part of Roman Egyptian art history), which makes me wonder if these were ever used as a base for those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also possible this was out under the turbans worn by women in Coptic art. An example of a bust from Byzantine exists of a woman wearing a turban from Constantinople, and when viewed from the side it can be seen that the volume at the front of her headdress terminates in points near the nape of her neck/her ears. However, this bust also lacks the volume one would expect from the examples if a roll like the extant examples was used.
Tumblr media
The other piece is one I noticed before, and isn't specific to Egypt, or originated from there. It seems to have come from Palmyra, and is fairly common in the funeral busts we have from there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are small plaques of metal and gems, typically with a few small beads dangling over the forehead. Currently it's supposed that they were attached to a woman's bun in some way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a Roman-era Greek bust and a Roman- era Tunisian example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heres some Roman-Egyptian portraits with similar head jewelry. So far, I haven't found a definitive later Coptic depiction of one being worn, but I don't think that means they stopped being worn before Christianization. It's possibly just a matter of what art has survived and what I've personally seen. Generally, Coptic jewelry is similar to the jewelry from earlier Roman-Egyptian examples, with some more unique examples and examples that were inspired by later trends in the Byzantine Empire.
Tumblr media
One of the possible Coptic examples is from the tomb of Theodosea (full disclosure: Theodosea herself was Greek Christian living Egypt, not a Copt in the sense we mean it now, but she's dressed in a way generally common in Egypt at the time. I use "possible Coptic example" here to indicate the contemporary cultural majority of Egypt, which is distinct from the pre-Christian cultural identity of native Egyptians). Theodosea here is identified by Engy Hanna as wearing some type of golden hairnet, with a green pendant with 3 hanging pearls and two strings of hanging beads attached. Because of her palla, it's impossible to tell if she has only one medallion attached to her hairnet or if this is a strip. The overall composition of elements (a cover over the hair, the two strands, center ornament, and a shawl over top the head) are very similar to Palmyran headdresses, though she doesn't wear a turban or the patterned fillet they do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently, I found a bust on an auction site labeled "Roman, probably made in Egypt" from the 1st century, with this ornament but made of a more pliable material- probably fabric. And another on the same site, maybe Egyptian (the information mentions both the terms Gandhara and Greco-Egyptian), with the more typical jeweled look, 2nd-3rd century (which is more into the swing of Christianization in Egypt).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last aside is another jewelry piece resembling that of Palmyra, though less so: a kind of circlet that appears to be made of chain with a center pendant. The star pendant worn by the second woman also notably resembles the pin holding the strip to the Greek girl's updo. The hanging strands of Theodosea are more blatant, but it's possible these were elaboration on the fashion. This style of jeweled forehead circlet, unlike the headband and strip (I have seen art of Syrian and Egyptian women with a strip, as well as Nubian art of women with a fillet/circlet and a center strip. The latter seems to be a more widely used item than the former two, which I have only seen one depiction each of so far), has remained consistently popular in West Asia and North Africa. Additionally the padded band worn by one of the Palmyran women featured here could be a related item to the padded headband; to know one would have to see the back of her head or find an artifact connecting the two. Even if a relationship can be proven between the Byzantine, Palmyran, and Coptic padded fillets, there is no clear indication of where it originated.
*I am a Copt, and if you are not, do not tag this post talking about "recreations". I find that offensive given the actions taken by Albert Gayet in regard to the clothes he took from graves. It is a simple boundary and you will not "enlighten" me to see how it's fine.*

Here's roughly what my swimsuit pattern looks like, for anyone who wants to try one! You'll definitely need to do a mockup, preferably in a fabric that has the same amount of stretch as your final fabric. It would also be very easy to trim down the neck hole and armscyes a bit and leave off the sleeves, if you want one of the sleeveless styles.
It was pretty simple to draft, once I figured out what the shapes were supposed to be. I couldn't find ANY diagrams of similar swimsuit patterns from the late 19th/early 20th century, but finally found an auction site picture of an extant one where there was a crotch gusset visible, and got to examine one with somewhat similar construction in the King's Landing collection, which also had a gusset.
For the construction: Serge all the edges except for the placket and neck hole. Sew the placket, which is just a regular tower placket that there are plenty of tutorials for online. Bind neck hole. Sew the sleeves on. Sew crotch gusset in and close up what's left of the inseams. Sew up the side seam/sleeve seam. Hem leg and sleeve openings (I just folded them in and zig zagged them down).
I haven't got much experience at all with knits, and don't know how I'd have gone about it without a serger, but I think you can finish edges with just a zig zag? (I just have a straight stitch machine, so I serged the pieces on my mother's serger, and did the zig zag on a machine at work. I had to re-do part of the placket because it came out wonky and awful.)
