when I was 4 years old I developed my very first ever crush. on Shaggy from scooby-doo. we were engaged to be married and everyone thought it was adorable but I didn't. I spent actual baby energy stressing over the finances. I was like mom I don't think you understand just how much he eats, how are we ever going to have enough money to feed his appetite. like I need to eat too? I was fully like making job and income spreadsheets in my little journal trying to figure out how we'd afford everything. this was a genuine source of concern and anxiety for me and I couldn't understand why no one was taking it seriously

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! <3

Wanted to draw a bunch of different pairings so here we go!! I wanted to draw them on how I imagine their dates with each other would go.

Fred and Shaggy started out on a walk but halfway through Fred saw a place they caught a bad guy once and started reminiscing on their good times spent together and who is Shaggy to complain, they definitely went to get food after it though.

Daphne and Fred went to a screening at the Coolsville local cinema where they were showing one of the first ever 3D movies. When the movie is over Fred spends the rest of their date talking about how impressive the improvements to 3D films have been since they were first invented. Daphne doesn't mind that much since she still gets to cuddle and they also probably went to get food after it where Daphne assigns their friends roles in the movie they just watched.

Shaggy and Daphne went to a football game where Shaggy gets to eat very many football game foods such as Hotdogs and whatever else they eat at football games. Daphne isn't even rooting for a team cause at first she wasn't sure about going but it hits halftime and she's caught up in the atmosphere and uses the celebration of any of the teams scoring as an excuse to kiss Shaggy.

Velma and Daphne are working on very important mystery solving and journalism career things on their laptops so they don't have time to go on a date date HOWEVER that will not stop them from flirting through messages as they work. Daphne sends Velma things like videos and songs that remind her of her and Velma can't flirt back so she just sends hearts like a disaster lesbian, good for her tbh.

something fun about Scooby-Doo as a franchise is that none of the five core characters have consistent family members. Their mothers, fathers, siblings, aunts, uncles & cousins change in every single iteration with no real cross-over between shows (with the notable exception of Scrappy). i think one of the things that upsets me the most about velma and shaggy's relationship in sdmi--and boy there is a lot--is that not only is her constantly ''correcting'' him for minor, harmless, and usually completely reasonable things with physical and emotional abuse, well. abusive by itself. but so many of the things he does that she treats him that way over are very autistic things, and what she subjects him to is textbook abuse aimed at autistics in particular. (including the part where she gets more and more pissed whenever attempts at said emotional abuse fly over his head, because he's too bad at picking up cues for them to land fully.)

like. there's a lot of examples there; shaggy's behavior coming across as autistic is worth a whole post of its own, and a lot of media depicts abuse targeted at autistic traits because ✨️hooray ableism.✨️but she straight up tries to Fix Him (read: force him to perform a Presentable Personality) by forcing him to wear clothes that are sensory hell, and trying to condition him to self-harm every time he does some small harmless, reflexive thing she thinks is Poor Socialization until he stops. and to catch himself doing it, and punish himself, without being prompted. i cannot fucking overstate how fucked up that is.

they even got down the fun little aspect of ABA where the methods of conditioning-through-pain are presented as toys and kiddish things: she gives him a rubber band to wear on his wrist, and tells him to snap it as hard as he can every time he says 'like.' 🙃🙃🙃🙃

like. this does not begin to scratch the surface of the abuse she puts him through in general. and again, characters being abused for autistic traits with the approval of the narrative is a common thing in media, which sucks. but holy fucking shit! they really took the 'violent ableism that is done to autistics irl' to the next fucking level here!

.......and it's portrayed as kind of cringey, immature teen drama on both sides. the self-harm, his dread over how much he knows it'll hurt, and the extreme pain it causes him to the point of screaming are all supposed to be funny. and her arc is all about learning to accept that she deserves better, because she was repressed and had low self-esteem and therefore putting him through fucking DIY ABA didn't make her happy.

anyway if you couldn't tell i can't fucking stand sdmi velma and i have a lot of words in me about it. when one of your main heroes would have made a way more compelling villain as they are, on a more mundane level compared to all the wild fantastical shit they go up against, holy shit go back to the drawing board you have fucked up. she could have been genuinely good representation of a marginalized person dealing with the trauma of her experiences in some shitty ways she has to grow past, and an interesting flawed character, without being absolutely despicable--hell, she'd have made a great foil to pericles if they'd handled him decently too. they have a lot of parallels, which only gain more depth when you add their respective parallels with cassidy into the mix. and it really fucking sucks that we got this instead.

#took a break from trying to figure out what the hell i'm doing in my other art piece to do some character design #i love them a lot but they're definitely a little fucked up lmaoooo #based on a shaggy ink cap mushroom! #reference notes for me later: #this took like... an hour and a half? hour 45? #had a decently clear pic of them in my head when i started #general shape-wise at least (large-brim mushroom cap. tall & lanky. had the eyes down from the get) #i also knew that there was going to be a breastplate & translucent fancy robes beneath it but i had to explore those clothing shapes #also had a solid idea of the colors - base colors took like 10 minutes tops and that was less color picking #and more trying to color within the lines #pretty decent considering i usually take fucking forever with designs but i think it's cause i started with a solid idea/image of them #my art

Very generic “”gothy” character in a children’s cartoon” type look just out of curiosity, seeing if I had enough stuff to put together a full outfit from a box of old clothes lol. I didn’t have an actual main shirt though, so it’s just a plain tank top with cat shape cut out of paper and safety pinned onto the front 

#Though not calling anyone generic if this is your style or something. I don't mean it in a bad way. I just mean like.. all of the steretypic #al elements are there. The choker thing. the 'fishnet shirt under a tank top' . the 'carefully placed slightly askew studded belt' etc. #the skirt + some form of patterned specially striped tights + platform boots combo. etc. Like from a character design standpoint #These are the elements usually present in a show when they want to portray 'this caracter is slightly edgy and alternative' #just missing like.. hair with straight across bangs in pigtails that's black with a few colored streaks in it. OR just like shoulder length #shaggy hair that's also streaky and has a sidebang. and like.. one lip piercing or something ghhjbjh.. dark eyeliner #black nailpolish. I'm not painting my nails just for one uoutfit though. I actually used to wear nailpolish more but I just hate the smell #so much now. I can't see how I ever was able to bear it. I think maybe because usually I had some bigger spaces with ventalation. I guess #I could paint them outside maybe. Still #It's still hard to beleive some poeple will like. full on #get their nails done on a constant basis. get hair done. etc.etc. Not even just becuase of the money but like. the sensory experience seems #ovwerhelming. I only have been to a hair salon like twice in my life and both times I HATED a person touching me. and having to like lay my #head back and get it rinsed. etc. I went to a nail slon literally once because someone else wanted to go and I happened to be with them #and the smell was bad to me and also I did not like them touching me even if it was just my hands. Also I've never had fake nails #and didn't want them so when I went in I just got them plainly painted a plain color with nothing special andit's just like.. I could have #done that myself for free lol.. I get going to a place with special tools and equipment if you want something complicated but like.. #why pay to have your plain nails plainly painted in a plain way #Hair thing if more bothersome though like. Maybe strangers can touch my hands i guess but like. letting someone near my head and face. #automatic bad reflex. Like an animal protecting it's belly or something. I think amplified by the fact that not only is a stranger touching #you but also there's like. so much. stuff. wet feeling on hair and then the feeling of hands and then so many smells and then other poeple #being there too. etc. etc. Though since my hair is so long now I have been curious every once in a while to like.. go into a place and get #an estimate. Not to go through with it actually but just like. hey if I theoretically wanted you to bleach my very dark extremely thick hai #r that is all the way to my fingertips. and make it like white.how much would that cost and how long would it take. I feel like it would tak #e froever and be very expensive since it'd probably use up a lot of product. I barely even keep up with coloring my own hair at home anymore #because it's always such a process. Instead of one thing of dye I need literally like 4 lol. etc. #Or maybe it'd be cheaper because they'd have bulk items instead of buying single package. But still. the man hours probably. cost of labor. #ANYWAY khjk... Another fun look just to be silly. Not really my style but it's all just playing dress up
