i think it's sad how little empathy kids tend to have these days. the other day, i was walking down a flight of stairs at my school when a random 11-year-old boy tapped my arm and asked "are you gay?". now, i thought he was saying "are you okay", and nodded (nothing wrong with being gay! i'm just not one to tell my sexuality to random kids who interrogate me). then, he began hollering the f-slur and yelling that everyone should get away from me. it's sad that literal children are so used to throwing around language like that and making jokes out of what is just plain hate speech. we're all human beings. i don't see why differences like that should matter.

okay four episodes into flux and i am so fucking confused.

there are eighty seven characters and each of them has their own plotline to keep track of and i'm still hung up on fucking brendan.

if i ever meet chris chibnall i am going to pin him down and tattoo show don't tell onto his forehead so maybe then he will understand that the medium of tv exists for a reason and you don't need to spell out every visual clue.

please. for my sanity. if i have to hear another line like 'we're coming for you. me and your as of yet unborn child' i am going to spontaneously combust with fury. what the fuck.

i can tell there's a story being told here but i can't follow it, and we're spending so much time focusing on characters who are not the doctor when they don't appear to matter to the story.

every episode feels like a sidequest deterrent from the main plotline.

also, as much as i do think there's something in the plotline of the doctor getting lost in the rabbithole of figuring out her past, i don't love that they're framing it like it ruins everything she ever knew about herself? like oh, who is she without her memories–i dunno i thought we'd fucking resolved that already.

and i know it doesn't work as easy as that in real life but this is a tv show and so her having like eight heart to hearts about how she's the doctor now even if she doesn't know who she was and having the moment with the daleks just being thrown out the window so we can have this goddamn mess of exposition and cameos and confusion that is flux upsets me.

trust me when i say that no one wants to talk about this less than i do but there is something very insidious about the way that whole scene with alicent and larys played out in ep 9 and way the fandom as a whole reacted to it. and i saw this interview with the actor who said from his perspective it was less about the actual fetish of it and more about him being able to make her do it. to make her feel shame over something that also causes him shame. it's not some quirky silly hypocritical thing she's doing to get information, he's blackmailed her into this. he killed his family and then insinuated he did it for her and then said "i'm sure you'll find a way to reward me in time"??? this shit is not subtle. she feels trapped and he's a psychopath. people love to turn the religious stuff back on alicent and paint her as a hypocrite but this is one of those things where i cannot imagine watching that scene and not seeing a kind of assault. and it's still an assault even if she's "getting something out of it"

Because the creators of [thing] don’t care if you like/dislike character a, or make fan art of ship c, or roleplay as character x. They just care that you like [thing] in the first place.

If you've ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn't escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.

Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.

Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they're booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.

And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.

And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy "their stay in paradise".

[Edit]: This current situation, and this type of tourist behavior is horrifying beyond words. In other circumstances, the tourism situation is much more complicated, and I need to ask that people do not add on to this post unless they are local.
