Oh, boy, new ask game! And I caught it so soon this time, nice!
I have many AUs to propose, my first one is this:
Not Your Usual Rattatouille AU: The reason that Mei barely knows how to act like a human is because she is actually a pink rat-rabbit-thingy with a super intelligence quirk piloting a mecha suit shaped like a human girl. Izuku accidentally discovers this while trying to confess a crush on her sometime after the Sports Festival. Also, she is Nedzu’s granddaughter.
Midoriya was very impressed with Hatsume's Support Gear and her paying attention when he was going on Quirk tangents at the Sports Festival and eventually started hanging out with her in the Support Lab.
At some point between Internships and the End of Term Exams, he worked up the courage to ask her out... only to walk in on her in the Support Labs while she's getting some fresh air outside of her robot. There's like ten straight seconds of processing before she freaks out.
Here's the deal: Nedzu is always keeping an ear out for any programs like what he went through or even just suspected sightings of Quirked animals. It was through these connections that he found Hatsume as a tiny kit(?) and adopted her as a granddaughter.
Midoriya promises that he'll help keep this a secret, completely forgetting about what he was originally doing there (and/or finding it too awkward to bring it up since it feels exploitative). He's already hiding One For All, how hard could this be?
It would probably be much easier if it wasn't for the small problem that Midoriya isn't the only one that Hatsume impressed during the Sports Festival.
I must confess I struggled a bit with the fifth point of this AU. The logical next steps from my perspective were either the Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa approach (Midoriya learns a whole bunch of secrets like this and the gang has to balance them all, hilarity ensues) or that other people were romantically interested in Hatsume. Both of these ideas have serious overlap with existing AUs.

hi there! sorry if you've gotten a similar ask before. do you write wayfarer directly into twine or do you keep it in a separate doc? do you just have really clearly labeled sections in a word doc or something or is there a specific program you use to keep track of every story path? basically, with something as expansive and w/ as many routes as wayfarer, how do you keep all your writing organized?
I have answered this before, but I can't seem to find my posts on the subject (you may want to peruse my coding in twine tag, the masterpost has a bunch of different resources for this kind of thing!).
But in short, no, I do not write Wayfarer directly into Twine. This could functionally work for a very small game, but I would still advise against it as Twine doesn't really work as a word processor. You can't proof-read in it.
My process has three main steps:
Outlining
Writing
Coding
Compiling
Outside of my big beat chart (which spans the whole game), I break each episode down into their own outlines, and then break the routes of each episode down into their own outlines. Sometimes specific sections end up with their own outlines too. My system probably doesn't make much sense to anyone other than me, but as long as I know what the divisions are, then it's all good.
I write in MS Word. Each episode has its own folder (sometimes with subfolders) and every section of the game gets its own document.
Tumblr media
Here's the main folders, each episode goes into its own thing.
Tumblr media
This is an subfolder for Episode 1, specifically Route B.
Within my word documents themselves, I use a colour-coding system for separating out branches and sections. This is extremely useful for writing dialogue loops, like this:
Tumblr media
I also add in any coding notes (variables, true/false states, stat checks) while I am writing so I know what I need to do when I sit down to code 4+ months later. I usually throw a X or XX on choices after I have written them as a note to myself that I have finished it (this is just personal shorthand - X means I've done the pass version of a check, XX means I've done the pass and fail states).
I use about 8-10 colours in my documents; I have a set of MS Word macros set up so I can easily switch between them.
I share my word documents with my editor via OneDrive, which makes it easy for her to got through and proofread.
I use MS Word because I've been using it to write since the 2000s and it's what I prefer to use. I have also been writing professionally for over a decade now, so I have systems and strategies in place that work for me that I've developed for myself over time. But if you're new to writing and you're looking for a word processor that can also help you with outlining and keeping your story straight, something like Scrivener may be helpful.
One the text is ready to be coded, it's a lot of copy/pasting from Word into Twine. When I'm coding I will typically be running multiple programs at once:
MS Word
MS Excel (for my variable sheets)
Twine
Notepad++ (which has some regularly used code stored in it; I also use it to edit CSS and Javascript, as well as any really code-heavy sections since it's easier to do that in Notepad++ than it is in the Twine editor)
Notepad (just the regular version - I use it for writing notes to myself while I'm coding)
a web browser to launch tests in as I code
Once I am done coding and I have tested things, it's time to compile. The Twine editor can only handle so many passages and text in one file (around 500-700 passages before you hit massive lag), so I break Wayfarer into multiple story files. Having multiple story files also makes it really easy for me to cross-reference events (if I need to grab a passage title to reference it later) because I don't have to look through one big file. If I know the event happens in Episode 2's first scene, then I know I need to open Chapter_2.1.
My Twine library looks like this at the moment:
Tumblr media
I am using an old version of the editor (with an up-to-date version of SugarCube) since I didn't like the new one. I don't necessarily recommend using the Twine editor when you can easily make your game with Twee extensions in Visual Studio Code and have better support and functionality, but this is what I like and it really comes down to personal preference.
But because everything is in separate files, I have to merge them altogether. I have Tweego installed on my PC; it's run through the command prompt and outputs multiple story files into one HTML file. I've talked about this process here and here.
And that's basically it! I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all solution to keeping track of your IF. You need to figure out what works for you, based on your writing and outlining habits, how big your story is, and how much you intend to keep track of.
Hope this helps!

List of Official/Official-Adjacent Pacific Rim Media
Here's a list of Pacific Rim media for y'all Pacific Rim fans who want to check out as much of it as possible!
PACIFIC RIM (2013 FILM) Usually considered the primary text of this franchise. Pacific Rim fans mostly agree it's good.
PACIFIC RIM NOVELIZATION BY ALEX IRVINE The novelization of the 2013 film. The book's writer, Alex Irvine, had texts from Legendary Pictures work with, but some of the information was outdated. Furthermore, the book has a cynical, smug tone and comes off like it's written for the type of audience who thinks CinemaSins is actual media criticism. The only thing it's really good for is for scraping out lore, but it's full of contradictions and occasionally uses outdated lore, so you have to compare/contrast it with other materials.
TALES FROM YEAR ZERO Authored by Travis Beacham, this comic explores the origins of the PPDC and the Jaeger program. It's interesting for lore, but story-wise, it might not be engaging if you aren't into Travis Beacham's particular romantic storytelling tastes. Also, if you're a puritan who gets offended when main characters are kinda fucked up people, this isn't for you.
TALES FROM THE DRIFT Authored by Travis Beacham, this comic tells the haters-to-lovers story of Duc and Kaori Jessop, pilots of Tacit Ronin. Mildly interesting for lore, and another romance-oriented story. (Beacham loves those.)
PACIFIC RIM: MAN, MACHINES, & MONSTERS The official artbook. Has some interesting information and lore, though it also contains a few typos and references outdated worldbuilding.
TRAVIS BEACHAM'S TUMBLR After Pacific Rim's release, Travis Beacham answered many fans' questions. While he was often cryptic and straight-up refused to answer certain questions for fear that he'd spoil a future story, he still provided quite a bit of insight. You can visit his old blog at travisbeacham.tumblr.com
PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING Largely panned by fans of the original film. Partway through production, the sequel to Pacific Rim was handed off to another director, and many plot elements were hastily changed with little to no regard for the rich worldbuilding developed by Travis Beacham and Guillermo del Toro, or even story coherency. The film never gives really your brain space to breathe, so it's very difficult to follow the story. Moreover, it misses the thematic and allegorical tones of the first movie, and lacks its occult influences. Overall, it's a hollow followup to Pacific Rim.
PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING NOVELIZATION BY ALEX IRVINE Fundamentally, it's the same story as Pacific Rim: Uprising. The upside is that Alex Irvine's writing is significantly improved, and the story is much easier to follow in novel format. The downside is that you don't have John Boyega's acting talent.
PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING JUNIOR NOVELIZATION BY BECKY MATHESON It's more or less the same as above, but edited down for a younger audience.
THE ART AND MAKING OF PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING The PRU artbook. I've never read this one, so I couldn't tell you what's in it aside from the very obvious.
PACIFIC RIM: AFTERMATH A prequel comic to Pacific Rim: Uprising written by Cavan Scott, Aftermath tells two stories: one focuses on Jake Pentecost and his relationship with his father; the other on what happened to Hannibal Chau and Joshua Griffin (one of Vulcan Specter's pilots) after the kaiju war. The comic makes excellent use of the lore, and the stories are great.
PACIFIC RIM: AMARA A prequel comic that focuses specifically on Amara Namari. I have mixed feelings about it; the mini-Jaeger designs were great but I felt that the actual storyline was a little melodramatic. I dunno, read it for yourself and see what you think.
PACIFIC RIM: ASCENSION A prequel novel to Uprising by Greg Keyes, this story gives life and focus to many characters who didn't get a lot of attention, including the Kaidonovskys and the cadets. Mako Mori is given the narrative respect she deserves, and Hermann Gottlieb's characterization is top-notch. The author makes use of the lore provided by Legendary Pictures to weave a rich and fascinating narrative that puts the actual Uprising film to shame.
MAKING OF/BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE There's a number of videos out there on YouTube, which you can find by searching up.
PACIFIC RIM CONCEPT ART There's quite a lot of concept art out there. You can start here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, or search Pinterest or whatever search engine for Pacific Rim concept art.
PACIFIC RIM: THE BLACK A cash grab produced by Netflix, The Black disregards Pacific Rim's rich worldbuilding and follows bland, generic cartoon protagonists through a bland, generic cartoon plot loosely - loosely, mind you - based on the films. It tries to be dark, but it has all the skill of a sixteen year old edgelord about it. Also, the production values are nonexistent. You will miss absolutely nothing worthwhile by skipping over it. If for some reason you really want a Pacific Rim story where child soldiers are framed as a good thing, just read Pacific Rim: Ascension. If you want dark, watch Pulp Fiction or From Dusk 'Til Dawn. If you want a story where somebody makes a religion out of turning people into monsters, watch Midnight Mass or play/watch a no-commentary playthrough of Resident Evil 4 or 8. If you want an AI that looks after two stranded children, watch 3Below. Seriously, there is nothing The Black does that something else doesn't do infinitely better. "But most of these aren't Pacific Rim stories-" Wrong. Any story can be a Pacific Rim story if you're not a coward. And just about anything is a better Pacific Rim story than The Black.
PACIFIC RIM: BLACKOUT Prequel comic to Pacific Rim: The Black. Haven't read it, but it's written by the same guy who wrote Aftermath so it's probably a sight better than The Black.

Evil Shelldon AU: Unfixable Route
@harrygrim
I'm not good at recognizing when there should be warnings, but this is one of my darker, so even I can see some of them here. : D
Warning: Major character death, gore, probably more but I don't know them or how to label them.
Shelldon wished he could make Donnie keep working so he'd stop bothering him and his new brothers. Unfortunately, living can't be programmed nearly as easily as machines, the poor creatures trapped in flesh.
Luckily, despite the creator's many flaws, he is still a genius. One with robot copies, backups, in case something happens to the organic bodies. Once Donatello is in his things will be so much easier.
In the soundproof walls of the lab, no one hears as Donatello pleads for his life or his final scream.
It's harder than Shelldon thought it would be to reprogram Donnie once he's in the backup, he's constantly fighting the new codes and commands, but he does it.
Nothing will convince them more that Donatello chose this himself than inventions only he could come up with and create and words and phrases only he would say leaving the lab. Now the creator can stay in the lab and invent like he's supposed to while Shelldon gets to be the fourth brother. What more could anyone else want?
Notice how Shelldon didn't say anything about doing something with Donnie's body. It's still just sitting there in the lab.
So when Leo teleports in to confront Donnie on his behavior… : )
Leo's horror when he came to yell at someone who was long dead and he didn't even realize it. It's obviously not just some lab accident either. Donnie was cut open and left to rot. Even dead Donnie looks so scared. Why would anyone do this?
Double fun when he finds out it was Shelldon. That Donnie is dead because he messed with Shelldon. Because Donnie had the robot he made and put weeks, if not months, of work into play favorites? Pizza and back massages?
Then there's the robot likeness of his brother being used to fight him because he's seen too much. Leo yells at Shelldon about building a robot version of Donnie only for Shelldon to say he didn't, Donnie did. Shelldon explains the backups and their purpose, and how he repurposed Donnie's. Leo realizes what he's fighting is all that's left of Donnie.
Leo realizes that the last things any of them said to Donnie when he was alive were insults and talking about replacing him with Shelldon. How great Shelldon was. How great the monster that killed their brother and took what was left and twisted it was.
Donnie repeated those words back at him. Shelldon didn't program him to do it. It's just a part of Donnie still in the programming, lost and hurt, throwing Leo's words back at him. Lashing out in the only way he can now.

Hi I have returned from having a very terrible migraine and a flare up, so have some more projection headcanons - Weighted blanket anon
- Etho has chronic migraines, he usually ignores them until he’s literally falling over from pain, nausea and fatigue though.
- Cleo experiences chronic pain, she’ll also randomly lose feeling in certain limbs, while this happens her limbs will still be functional though. So for example, Cleo may not be able to completely feel her legs, but she can still walk around (it’s just REALLY hard and she looks silly doing it)
- I think I’ve already sent in a headcanon about Cub making Scar custom mobility aids? But ! Scar is not the only hermit to use aids, Cleo and Etho will both use them occasionally, even Ren does ! Grian actually needs special braces for his wings so he can fly for longer (I headcanon him as an avian so yeah!)
- A more non-human based headcanon (I can do a whole ask on non-human hermit headcanons if you want :D), Grian likes to perch on other hermits and many hermits have custom shoulder pads so he can safely do so without hurting them.
- The hermits have bake offs, but the only people who can actually bake are judges. Yeah, there ends up being a lot of food poisoning. Beef turned salmon into a baked good.
- Ren is an author ! He has so many stories written, but he only shares them with friends. He’ll write custom novels for people then gift it to them as a way of showing he loves/cares about them !
- False is building rivers this season as exposure therapy to get over her fear of water
HELLO OMG I MISSED YOU I HOPE YOU'RE DOING BETTER NOW !!!! these r so perfect as always

Hey y'all! Do you have any advice for a nine year old who wants to make video games? Is there like a program he can use to learn how to do that, or a game that teaches programming aimed at kids, or heck idk what to ask here I know pretty much nothing about making games Basically, the kidlet I used to babysit wants to make his own video game, and has been (somewhat inexplicably) making google doc slideshows about it because he doesn't know how to make games but if there's a way he could that would be awesome! Any advice is appreciated, I seriously know nothing about this but I want to support him

I am curious, because last chapter (chapter 49) y/n was under the control of the virus essentially. And under that influence we woke up Chica. So then, does that mean that the virus WANTS the animatronics to be sentient? Wouldn’t it be easier to take over an animatronic that is essentially just a robot? Or does the virus not have as much effect if the being/robot is non-sentient? Or maybe I’m overthinking this whole thing and it has absolutely nothing to do with this….
Currently I think the virus is interested in having them be sentient since sentience means an easier time carrying out actions against their programming

#hello to anyone who happens to b interested in the saga of my life... also maybe the irl person i gave my url to... hopefully my blog#didnt freak her out too much lol. anyway so its been a busy week? 2 weeks? month? year? life? its been a lot. my parents helped me move#across the country from the desert to somewhere that's beautiful and green. my dad is so jealous of me lol its so so so pretty and theres s#so much to do. will i do any of it? that remains to be seen but im gonna try to be better about that sort of thing. try to get some help#with the thoughts in my head that keep me from doing and enjoying most things. its weird like im decorating my new room which i love. the#location and living situation seem ideal and i really hope i can stay here all 5 years of my program but i was picking a lot of bright#colors and now it feel uncomfortable. like if i wear things that r too bright or my room is too bright without dark contrast it feel weird#like if im wearing it it kinda makes me feel sick. idk what thats abt. anyway. ill try to heal my brain and im just so happy to b out of the#southwest. i was so so so excited when we were leaving thr city and even more so when we left the state. i cant believe im here. in December#it felt like a million years away and i really truely could not fathom how i was gonna survive that long. my thoughts were so distorted. but#i did and here i am. and in like a month i should b starting my phd program and my parents were telling me how excited ppl r for me and#jealous of where im living and im glad. im glad they're excited. i think i am too but its under a layer of: if i get excited it wont happen#im not allowed to b excited or it wont happen. which is irrational but ya kno. anyway so that's yeah. im so happy to have a fresh start and#the town seems super cool. a liberal blip in a sea of... not that so theyre very visibly pride forward haha and i think itll b way easier#for me to get around without driving. and im gonna try to make friends. i need someone to tell me where to get tattoos haha. so yea im happy#but exhausted and i dont wanna go back to work and so so greatful to my parents for being wonderful ppl idk how bc both of them had fucked#up childhoods. like my mum will say the saddest shit and im like bro this is y i don't wanna talk to my grandma fuck her and my dads parents#r so fucked. like my nana is the reason im so fucking control freaked out but i kno i have issues and she has no insight and thinks shes#better than everyone. anyway hopefully i can get back to drawing a posting more now. ive been drawing it its been in a sketch book#like an actual sketch book for sketching big ideas thst r gonna take fucking forever to draw 😭#so that's all. just uprooted my whole life. thats all. but in a good way :-]#unrelated
