I 100% agree with your assessment on the Overhaul arc in bnha. Started series when that was the most recent arc and completely lost interest in the series halfway through. Trying to get started again, though. What would you change about the arc as a whole?

first off, anon, I hope I haven’t inadvertently spoiled anything! you said you’re trying to get back into it now, so just a heads up that this post is also going to contain spoilers for the end of the arc, though that’s probably obvious lol.

also, now that I’m a dozen chapters past it, I’m very happy to say things are moving along smoothly again and it reminds me of the “old” BnHA. all of the little things I missed so much are back. so it does get better! I’m really pushing to get fully caught up with the manga myself now.

so now! regarding this question, there are really two ways I could answer. because truthfully, the most honest answer I could give to “what would you change about this arc?” is “I wouldn’t have had it in the first place” lol. but that’s just me. even if I took out all of the stuff that annoyed me, even if it was more cleanly executed, this arc was just never going to be one of my favorites. it explores some themes that are important, but aren’t really connected to the things I enjoy the most about the series. the focus is too narrow at the expense of a lot of my faves who got excluded. and the tone is just too dark. which isn’t to say I don’t enjoy angst or when Shit Gets Real, but, how to put this… it has more of a DC vibe than a Marvel one to me. it’s more Dark Knight than Infinity War. and that’s just not quite my taste. so yeah, if we’re talking full control over the manga, I would probably have gutted the entire thing and chucked it completely and done something else. not sure what, but it would have been really different.

but since that answer is kind of a cop-out, here are some of the things I would change if I had to leave the main framework of the arc in place, but was allowed to make smaller changes here and there.

speed up/condense some of the stuff that happens after they encounter Eri and prior to the rescue op. it felt like it took way too long to get to the action. we met Eri in chapter 129 and they didn’t commence the rescue until 9 chapters later. some of the stuff that happens in between is important – especially the All Might stuff and the reveal about Nighteye’s premonition – but Kiri’s fight went on longer than necessary, and then there was no need for them all to meet up, start to plan Eri’s rescue, break off to gather more information, meet up again a few days later, and then finally start the raid. that was too much

I would put Kiri’s flashback in his first fight (the one against knifey stabby man). despite me having just said that the fight went on for too long, lol. but this would be a good way to break it up to make it more interesting. and then I could…

put Ochako and Tsuyu back in the arc and give one of them (or both of them – tag team) Kiri’s second fight instead. if their quirks don’t match up as well against Shield Monk and Chance the Rappa then just change those later two’s quirks to something more interesting. their original quirks were pretty boring anyway

put Ryuukyuu in the arc too bc obviously the girls should be accompanied by a grown-up just like the boys were. that part made sense

speed up Tamaki’s fight (like, don’t even bother trying to make it a challenge. just let Tamaki have his time to shine and kick their asses with no trouble), and have Fat Gum stay with him (just toss in an extra bad guy for him to fight) and speed up the Hot Gum reveal. and then just have the two of them get cut off from the others afterward

and I’m not sure what, but have Aizawa actually do something. as opposed to nothing. which is what he pretty much ended up doing

(ETA: I forgot to account for Kirishima during the raid! so now what I’m thinking is that he ends up making it to the final battle along with Aizawa, Nighteye, and Deku, but ends up being plot abducted along with Aizawa. because that’s a very interesting combination to me, and having to look out for his student might be a good way to nerf Aizawa a bit while still letting him actually fight. then maybe Kirishima gets injured much like what happened with him and Fat Gum. and then Aizawa steps back in to beat whoever it is they’re fighting. because it’s probably someone with a more cinematic quirk than Chrono tbh. anyway. so yeah, bonus Dadzawa feels. eventually he will come to realize that all of his kids are, in fact, problem children.)

actually, you know what, since most of my changes would just be little tweaks to the way things play out once the raid starts, I’ll just write up my version of a chapter-by-chapter outline instead

delete most of chapter 138 and have them get to the basement by the end of that chapter

139, Tamaki and FG stay behind to fight. Tamaki has his flashback and kicks some ass

140, we finish up the fight, with FG’s part of it. but the two of them find their forward progress blocked off by Irinaka. the chapter then ends with the ladies staring down another group of villains

141, a quick flashback shows how Irinaka separated Tsu, Ocha, and Ryuukyuu from the rest. Ryuu takes on the stronger villain (dragon time bitches) while the girls tag team a second bad guy. I have no idea how this would go, and it would take more time and effort and planning on my part than I currently am willing to devote since it’s a hypothetical scenario. but I have no doubt it could be very badass. we’ll give this fight two chapters, maybe, so we can have flashbacks and some more in-depth action. so that’s 141 and 142

143, we get League of Villains antics and flashbacks

144, the conclusion of that, and they take down Irinaka

145 and 146, Mirio vs Overhaul, with the others catching up at the end of 146

147, Aizawa (ETA: and Kirishima) get plot abducted and have their own little fight scene. Nighteye gets impaled trying to help the others escape. make that a bigger moment and show a bit more of his fighting beforehand, and make that the cliffhanger. since I’ve now added Kirishima to the mix, this may possibly take up an extra chapter

148, Deku turns back, activates 20% OFA, and fights Overhaul for a little bit but doesn’t do too well. Eri comes back and offers herself in exchange for the others’ safety. the ladies come barging in to turn the tide, having smashed their way through the labyrinth

149, Deku and Eri vs Overhaul part 1. first half of Overhaul’s flashback. establish his backstory and his plan and the boss’s objections. end with 100% OFA

150, Deku and Eri vs Overhaul part 2. second half of Overhaul’s flashback. show him using his quirk to fuck up the boss. (or at least, show enough to make it clear beyond a doubt that that’s what happened. you had no problem showing what happened to Eri and making that abundantly clear beyond what was necessary.) show him afterwards talking about the boss’s sudden decline in health, and how he’ll be taking charge until he’s healthy. show him monologuing about how this is all for the good of the family and one day the boss will be able to understand that too. “I’m grateful to you, old man. so until then, just sleep.” Deku and Eri take him out; chapter ends with the KO punch

151, the aftermath. basically what we got in 159

153, Nighteye feels

bam. end of arc

so that’s more or less it. if we also speed up the pre-rescue stuff, I think this arc could easily be at least 10 chapters shorter. they can cut most of the villain flashbacks, too, since we don’t really need those. we got along just fine without villain flashbacks for the most part before this arc; only Tomura and Stain had them, and we managed perfectly well. also, give them more interesting designs, seriously. having them all try to stick to a theme/uniform with only slight variations was really dull, and there were moments when I genuinely lost track of who was who. none of the heroes look alike even though they’re all on the same team. it’s fine lol

theres a lot of wild shit going on in my old story drafts but here are a few absolute gems

-Cedar used to be called Cedar Willow at all times. That’s their middle name and idk why they went by both cuz that’s a gd mouthful

-Reada’s name used to just be Redheart. Gotta say I’m glad I changed that

-Sparrow and Petunia (and by extension Paisley) weren’t in the original story and are actually fairly new considering I started working on LRV in 2016

-Anima has actually not changed at all since the entire story came to me completed in a dream so that doesn’t apply but

-In late 2016 Paz and Del’s names were Aizlyn and Alwyn and the basic gist was that Aizlyn was having so many aggressive demon-fueled outbursts and Alwyn was completely detaching from all human contact in favor of talking to her demon instead, and their parents willingly sent them away to a correctional facility/school thing and Aizlyn was... mad to say the least

-Also the story kept bouncing back from being set in a futuristic time period and being set in the 1930s which..... LMAO

-Alwyn was a straight girl with long combed over hair who was in love with her demon, who was a cishet boy, also who’s name I don’t remember

-Aizlyn was just a little ball of rage and used to take out her demon’s wrathful and envious tendencies on others and so she had like no friends because she was... an asshole. Not on purpose, but still

-Once Alwyn was established as Not Str8 I was wondering who I wanted to pair her with and I came up with Ingrid, who was a very emotionless stone cold gothic lolita girl who never ever smiled... except around Alwyn. She didn’t have a demon and wasn’t involved with that stuff really. She always wore this one flower crown thing with spikes on the top. I nerfed her

-Aizlyn and Alwyn originally had three younger siblings who were triplets (called The Trips) which consisted of the oldest, a boy who was kind of dumb as rocks but had a heart of gold, a sister named Elvyra who took no shit from anyone ever, and the youngest, a nb kid who was mostly nonverbal and had a lot of trouble communicating. Ingrid had a huge soft spot for them and would let them borrow her crown all the time. The Delmara’s thought this was the cutest shit they’d ever seen. I nerfed all three of them

-Anyways, I swapped Ingrid out for Tahlia in the end, and made not one but two lil sibs for her. Twins named Grayson and Grace. Grayson was the exact same as he is now, but Grace was a smart mouthed girl who was essentially the brains of all their Sibling Schemes. She got along great with Elvyra. But I nerfed her

-Elijah’s name was Jorden for a solid 1 (one) minute there. Also I struggled with bringing him up in a good way cuz i didn’t want it to seem like Azlynn’s suicide was fuel for his manpain cuz that trope drives me bonkers in funcking yonkers

-Originally, Acedia’s host/the character I ended up swapping out for Mattie was a 9-year old orphan girl who the gang just... found

-Originally instead of Artos, Envitia’s childhood friend (and would-be s/o in a perfect world) was the princess and heir of the Vangloria family, and they had to keep their feelings hidden not just bc of the Romeo and Juliet-ness of it all but also because... demon homophobia. Didn’t end up going with that because it adds a whole new layer of sadness to it all and also because it makes me feel icky to LGBT-code villains

-Paz was orig going to inevitably become trapped in her powered-up form as she got older and was gonna b permanently engulfed in large hoodies to hide the fact that she was pink and had Wholeass Horns

-Also also, in one version, all the characters who had died to get their demons (Tahlia, Cedric, Paloma) were going to die upon completing their pacts, because once the pact is done they’re meant to revert back to the way they were pre-demon (which was.... dead) but I got rid of that cuz yeesh, morbid

-There was originally a character who was meant to be Paz’s foil sort of, and her demon was horrific to her but manipulated her to the point where she thought he really cared and only wanted the best for her. Stockholm Syndrome gone wild. I never gave her a name bc the idea fizzled out pretty quick but her color theme kept switching between light blue and purple and her eye shape was either going to be a heart or a star, and she was going to be a sort-of final boss for the demon days gang. But I nerfed her

summary: poe dameron is a cocky little shit that needs to keep his promises better. but he does make up for it pretty well.

a/n: this is for the babes that are @letmeletmetrashyourlove and also @stevesdacre bc it’s star wars and tlj spoiler free. it’s also for @dacrethehalls but she’s only seen the phantom menace so she doesn’t count. i wasn’t gonna post any star wars stuff for a little while, but lidi requested and here i am. this is pre and into tfa, so no spoilers!

There were a lot of things that were frustrating about being in the Resistance. The backlog on the credits that they owe you was a big one. The fact that you hadn’t had a hot cup of caf was another one. The biggest one, however, was the pit in your stomach anytime that Poe would go on a mission.

Specifically, a mission without you.

You’d thought that you would grow out of that, that the longer you were in the fight, the better it’d get. But it didn’t. You’d be perfectly fine for weeks on end, going out on missions and feeling perfectly at ease. But the second General Organa would keep you at the base while Poe went off on a mission, your stomach would start to tie in knots. The ache would grow and grow until you were snapping at anyone and everyone. Even when Han would occasionally stop by, you’d still scowl at the old man like he’d shit in your breakfast.

It wasn’t like you thought that Poe couldn’t handle himself - he was the best damn pilot in the Resistance. The man could fly circles around TIE fighters in his sleep. He’d survived more crashes than you had fingers on your hand. He was unkillable, really.

But that didn’t stop you from worrying.

“Jakku?” You asked, frowning a little as General Organa straightened her back. You resisted the urge to raise your chin to her. She’d taken a liking to you for some reason, but pushing your luck was risking a little too much.

“Yes, Poe will be heading to Jakku for the retrieval of some important information.” Your jaw ticked as she spoke. Poe rested his hand next to yours on the console, inconspicuous enough that no one would notice his brief brush against your hand. It didn’t help.

“Does he need someone to go along with him?” You asked, making sure that your voice was as even as could be.

“BB-8 will be going along with him. I’m sure that the little droid will be more than enough,” the former princess said. Her voice was firm. Her tone was final. You kept your back straight, ever the good soldier, as she spoke. You kept your lips pressed shut as she finished up the briefing, and they stayed that way as you walked into the hall.

“You planning on talking anytime soon, or am I going to have to pry that information out of you?” His voice sounded behind you. You stopped in your tracks, turning around to look at him. His brown eyes held your gaze steady, and easy. “It’s Jakku, Y/N. It’s not like we’re heading to Coruscant, blasters blazing to shoot up the place. It’ll be quick, in and out, no issues.”

“It’s Jakku. When has anything good ever happened there?”

“You worry too much,” he said, a small grin forming. He reached out with his hand and caught yours, thumb rubbing soothing circles into your skin. “You need to relax.” He tugged you a little closer, turning your hand over in his. His other hand came up and began to massage your palm, his fingers plying against your skin.

“Poe, someone’s going to see.” Your voice was soft, softer than you’d thought it would be. He looked down at you, that grin turning into the beginnings of a smirk.

“So let ‘em see. I don’t care. What are they going to do, send me to Jakku?” His fingers worked against your skin in a way that made you almost forget where the two of you were. Damn him.

“Would you kriffing - Poe. C’mon,” you mumbled. He just tugged you closer to him, your chest bumping up against his. “You know what happens if Leia finds out. We stop getting put on any missions together. We don’t see each other ‘til after the war.”

“You think I’d be demoted if I brought up the fact that she and Han got to galavant across the entire kriffing galaxy back in the day?”

“I think she’d shoot you if you used the words galavant and Han in the same sentence.” Poe laughed, his fingers stilling their motions.

“We’re going to be fine, I promise.” He pressed his lips against your forehead, still refusing to care if anyone saw them. To their credit, any Resistance soldiers that were around were turning a blind eye. Poe Dameron was practically the poster boy of this whole thing. The man worked day and night to try and keep the evil advances of the First Order at bay. If he wanted to step out of line a little, no one would oppose him.

“You promise?” He lifted his lips from your forehead, dropping head onto yours. Your noses almost brushed each other’s as he looked down at you, his expression softening into one of nothing but adoration.

“I promise.”

“I don’t believe that violence is the right -”

“Can it, you bucket of bolts,” you spat, striding down the hall of the base. That piece of kriffing bantha shit. You were going to murder him. Absolutely, fucking murder him. Threepio was shuffling behind you, walking as fast as his legs could take him. He was mumbling something about how you were just like Han, all bluster and no forethought. But you didn’t care.

Because you were going to murder him.

“POE KRIFFING DAMERON.” Your words echoed throughout the hangar. You didn’t have to sidestep anyone - every single ship tech was practically diving out of the way as you made your way out into D’Qar’s sunlight.

It wasn’t hard to spot him. He was staring at you with that deer in the spotlights look of his.

“Sweetheart, look-” He was holding his hands out in front of him. You weren’t having any of it. You grabbed the closest spanner and pointed it at him.

“No, you look, sweetheart. I thought you were dead!” There was a little bit of dried blood on his face and your chest squeezed tight.

“If it helps, I kinda thought I was dead too.”

“You promised that it’d be fine! But was it? No. You get ambushed and then get kriffing kidnapped by that whiny ass Vader wannabe, and you have the audacity to call me sweetheart? Are you kidding me right now?” Your chest was heaving as you yelled. You were taking a step every couple of words, punctuating them with a jab of the durasteel tool.

“You think I wanted to get kidnapped by him? You genuinely think that I planned on getting kidnapped and crashing a TIE fighter?” He was yelling now, too. He took a step forward, eyebrows furrowed as he moved right into your space.

“You crashed a TIE fighter?” You stared at him, mouthing hanging open like a dead burra fish.

“Yeah.” He paused. His face relaxed a little, and that nerf herder had the nerve to smirk. “It was kind of cool.”

You slapped him. Not the hardest that you’d ever done it, but your palm had landed clean on his cheek, resulting in a loud sound. His eyes widened, and his hand immediately came up to grab your wrist.

“It’ll be quick, in and out, no issues,” you spat, scowling. You’d thought, when you had found out the news, that you’d cry. But instead, you’d been pissed. Nothing but pure rage. “Maker fucking wept, Poe! Whatever happened to no issues, huh? In and out? You karking, dumb, bleeding…” Your voice trailed off as his thumb brushed against the inside of your wrist.

You could remember the first time he’d done that. It had been your first mission for the both of you, and the transpo that was supposed to get you out had taken a hit. There was nothing that either one of you could do except to wait it out. His hand had found yours as the alarms had clanged, and his thumb brushed soothing circles into your skin, making your fear seep out of you.

The same was happening then, only with your anger. Your shoulder slumped and you let out a halted sigh. You dropped your head onto his chest and his arms instantly found their way around your waist.

“I’m right here, Y/N. I’m okay,” he murmured into your hair. He was pressing kisses against it, soft and sweet. You pulled away from him after a moment, fixing him with a hard look before reaching up and pressing your lips against his. It wasn’t pretty. It was rough, your teeth clacking against each other. But there was something reassuring in it, something that said that you were both there and alive. That the day would come when things might not turn out as great, but that day was long off.

The only thing that separated you two was a clearing of someone’s throat. You pulled away from each other, your stomach dropping as you realized just who was standing behind you.

“Are the two of you done attacking one another like animals?” General Organa asked. Your face flushed.

“Yes, ma’am, we are,” Poe answered, rather easy. It made you bristle at how well he managed to hold himself. But then you looked over at him, and that feeling faded. His hair was a mess that just screamed that someone had ran their fingers through it. His pupils were dark and he kept glancing over to you, his lips twitching up into little smirks.

“Good. Then the two of you need to get yourselves cleaned up. Han just commed in, and said that he’s got someone we should meet.” She paused, sighing softly. “You two stay out of trouble until he gets here, do you understand?” Both of you nodded your heads. Poe’s hand was nudging against yours as the General walked away.

“You want to head back to my quarters, maybe get cleaned up there?” He suggested, that smirk planted firmly on his face.

“Han’s going to be here sooner rather than later. We don’t have time, Poe.” The man in question just shook his head.

“We’ve got all the time in the galaxy, Y/N. Trust me on this.”

You grinned, your stomach dipping as his hand found yours. Your fingers slotted together as though they were made for each other, the final puzzle piece slipping into place. Things weren’t going to get easy anytime soon. They weren’t going to magically solve all of the problems of the galaxy. The Resistance had its fair share of problems that needed fixed, but in that moment, you weren’t concerned about any of them. Things would work out, you just knew it.

“Lead the way then, Dameron.”

how do i start reading about the batkids i’m really overwhelmed help

fuck it if I know… probably the smartest way to tackle it is to follow this list, which pretty much covers the vital Batman related arcs. PERSONALLY, I don’t care about reading about all the batkids, I just picked my favorite ones and just.. read everything I could about them (and lucky for me my favorite batkids don’t have thousands and thousands of comics so ! yay!) here’s some reading orders I made (except for the Damian one)

OK NOW.. N52. So new 52 was the reboot and it basically just took everything i just mentioned and threw it out of a fucking window. Changes: Barbara is Batgirl again, Cass and Stephanie didnt exist in this timeline for like four years, somehow Jason isnt such a dick, i think Damian didn’t get so fucked over, and uuuh i have no clue what happened with Dick and Tim but i think their whole story with their teams (teen titans / titans / young justice) got incredibly fucked over. Almost every single member of the Batfam (that didn’t get booted from this contuinity) got either a solo or a team book, which are. super good to start, reading order be dammed, but the batfam went through a lot of shit (court of owls, the joker, bruce kinda died, jim gordon became batman, bruce didnt remember anything, dick kinda died and got exposed but came back as a spy, damian died, bruce lost his mind, they kinda went to hell, damian came back, dozens of robins ran around, etc etc etc) so im gonna try to order it as best as i can T__T

Batman, Vol. 4 (Secret City) / DC Comics: Zero Year / Batman, Vol. 5 (Dark City)- Okay so, this wasnt the starting storyline for New 52 but its basically the basis of the batfam and co and introduces Duke and Harper so it’s kinda vital.

Rebirth is a continuation of New 52, but with some changes bc almost every single damn character got.. lets say nerfed, and people didnt like it so they’re slowly bringing back some elements from pre 52. Here basically just read whatever whenever unless you wanna get into like. the metal event. then i would recommend you to start off the bat with that to get it out of the way as some comics have tie ins. Then heres where the kids appear

All-Star Batman (2016-2017): Bruce and Duke

Batgirl (2016): Barbara and sometimes Dick

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey (2016): Barbara, Dick, and Helena

Batman (2016): originally Bruce and Duke but now its the Batman and Catwoman show

(if you’re interested in Duke i would say to read those two first as it explains where his character stands on Rebirth)

Batman and the Signal (2017): pretty self explanatory

Batman/Shadow (2017): Damian appears sometimes but.. i heard Bruce is a dick to him here so fuck it
