dunno if someone already asked but can you rank your most to least fav characters in Obey me?
I have done this before but I don't mind doing it again! Besides, maybe my tastes have changed a little since the last time I did a list. So here we go! (I'm not going to add Raphael, Thirteen--even though I do love her--and Mephistopheles since I haven't gotten that far in game yet)
Most
Lucifer: He gets my top vote always. Sorry, I can't help it. I am a sucker for any kind of grumpy/serious/sadistic character. Can't stand anyone else but loves you? Gets me every time.
Mammon: This boy has come a long way in my few years of playing Obey Me. I was kinda not into the whole tsundere thing, but the 'I loved you before anyone else did' feeling he gives off has really stuck with me. That and he's just...adorable.
Belphie: I can fix him. Enemies to lovers? Yes please. Plus personally, I feel like I share a lot of personality traits with him, so I relate to him a lot. Sleepy boy who loves the stars is top-tier.
Beel: Big himbo family man, I have to put him near the top. I'm not usually into the athletic types in otome games, but he makes up for that in just pure love and innocence.
Levi: As a gamer and anime lover, I just love Levi in general. I played Mystic Messenger as my first otome game and Yoosung was my first route so nervous and cute video game boys will always have a place in my heart.
Satan: I adore Satan. He's so mature and wise in some aspects and then can pull a full 180 and do anything for cats or cat related things, and even play the most childish of pranks on Lucifer like he's a giddy little kid. Get you a man that can do both.
Simeon: The more I play the game and write about this angel, the more I love him. He's just so wholesome. He loves Luke like a doting mom, teases Lucifer like a little brother, and treats technology like a grandpa. Beautiful character, beautiful man. 10/10.
Diavolo: Himbo #2. I wasn't sure how to feel about him starting out, especially when the whole 'is he really a master manipulator' thing was strong. It might still be going on actually, but I don't care, I see him as just someone who's been sheltered in a castle his whole life and is figuring things alongside everyone else. You know when you have to 'grow up' too fast as a kid and then when you're more of an adult you start doing things to heal your inner child? That's Diavolo. There's a chat in game where all he wants to do is invite everyone to the castle to play hide-and-seek. Need I say more?
Barbatos: A demon butler? Come on. Let's be honest, I never fully left my black butler phase. An extremely powerful demon who spends most of his days making tea and sweets? Amazing.
Asmo: I hate putting him this low on the list, but just as far as character personalities go, I've never been the most into the 'pretty and popular' characters. I think the fandom pulls out the best of his character more than the game does (unless I've just missed some crucial Asmo moments) but he has his tendencies to be super sweet when it counts.
Solomon: I don't hate him, I swear I don't, it's just when I'm forced to make a list, some people are going to be near the bottom! I do love his character though. The mischievous wizard who is also more powerful than some people probably give him credit for. He's great, I want to see more of him.
Luke: My baby, my son, I know he's down here at the bottom, but still my love for him is so great. I don't particularly like children but I will adopt this angel boy. Especially with this last event and he was feeling sleepy, and Lucifer said "now is the time where all good children go to bed" and he fell asleep?? I cry. I will tuck him in.

My TOP 5 BL Series:
I’ve been seeing posts like this around but I’ve been reluctant because there is so much to say about these shows and why I love them, I could go on for pages.
So a little about me: I’m a sucker for anything with GOOD WRITING and GREAT ACTING.
(in the order of it in my heart but by no means quality of shows) Now let’s get into it:
(1) SOTUS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SOTUS is still my OG BL. It was my first Thai BL series. I stumbled upon it on Netflix and 6 months later I’m still knee deep in all things BL.
So why SOTUS? 1) The Plot: the incredible hazing culture of the engineering faculty. When I was watching it, I had NO idea it was romantic until like episode 3. It gave me very Shonen anime/manga vibes of a quirky protagonist challenging his tsundere senior. But lo behold it was so much more!!
2) The relationship between Arthit and KP. The characters were so soft for each other. And the acting was so good. Ugh I will never forget Arthrit hanging up on a teary KP confessing—FAHHJSK!!!
(2) History: Trapped
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is just a such a good series. I’ve watched it thrice now and each time I notice new details. Forget BL. It’s just one of my top shows. EVER. This was such an amazing series.
Trapped gave us MURDER! MYSTERY! ANGST! ACTION. AND LOVE! It had everything. Let’s not forget Tang Yi in those sinfully fitted designer suits.
When people talk about BL being a “stepping stone” industry or not critically rated, I say Just. Watch. Trapped. And tell me that wasn’t better than so many non-BL shows?
We also got to watch two characters organically fall for each other. The writing was amazing. That plot twist!!! Then we get a canonically BISEXUAL character. No agonizing about their sexuality, they just fell for each other and decided to just be the best PARTNERS for each other.
*chefs kiss*
(3) History: Make Our Days Count
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MODC was SO amazing. It was hilarious, sad yet so moving. Hao Ting is the original Himbo. Stupid, Strong yet so freaking kind and loyal. His gang of friends were HILARIOUS and had such a natural chemistry. I have never laughed as much as I did watching their antics. The way the show was realistic af of horny teenagers.
The way they dealt with grief? That was so beautifully done. I cried so hard so many times because of the homophobia the characters faced. It cut me so deeply.
They had me emotionally invested until the very end. I think the show got so much hate because fans loved it so much. We really really wanted the main to be happy. We wanted both characters to be happy forever.
I had to put this here after I recently learned that the actor who played Hao Ting faced depression after the serious. I’m really sad that there hadn’t been any updates on future History projects. I hope this show is remade or given an alternative sequel.
A girl can dream right?
(4) Tharntype
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know what? I will 100% admit that Tharntype is my problematic fave. It has all the things we hate BL for. Consent issues. Evil!gf trope. Psuedo Incest. Honestly people have valid reasons for not liking Tharntype butBut—but—
There’s Mew. And then there’s Gulf. And those two and their acting and their chemistry made a MEH show AMAZING. They took me to new heights of fan girl. I had to pinch myself to prevent myself from synching into delusions that they are a real couple (they make it so hard!).
In my personal opinion, so many BLs (none I mention here) have straight actors play these gay characters In such a lacklustre way. There is so much behind that one sentence (I.e. perceptions about BL in the industry and outside the industry). The characters who are supposed to be in love often lack intimacy and real passion. Which can obviously be just bad acting or (*cough* homophobia).
So here came Tharn and Type with their messy yet HOT chemistry. Then an actual storyline. A SECRET VILLAIN? GREAT side characters. It’s like hazing, once you get through the BS of the first three episodes, the JEWEL that is Tharntype reveals itself.
If you hated it because of what you heard, be prepared to still hate it but also be prepared to get your walls knocked down and be charmed.
(5) Love by Chance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love by Chance is a BL honeymoon. It’s sweet. It’s fluffy. It’s steamy af. Ae and Pete should be the poster boy for Thai BLs.
When I think of LBC, I can imagine myself 8 months pregnant with a carton of Haagen Daaz choking up on ALL pure FLUFF and sweetness this show exudes with each episode.
Saint(Pete) with his beauty and soft persona. Ae is a tanned, fiery and protective boyfriend.
It’s a feel good drama. You’re in a bad mood? Life had got you down? Watch LBC. Watch Ae reassure Pete that there is nothing wrong with him. Watch Can be silly and aloof yet so endearing.
LBC is a great cast of amazing actors all dumped into this melting pot of (crazy bts drama) LOVE.]]

youtube
I was re-watching Jenna Moreci's video (https://youtu.be/iLOhJEFNw0M) mentioning bad love interest pet peeves, and I was thinking about how even though I too hate love interests who are just love interests, I also love ingenue characters.  I love himbos and pure-hearted maidens.  Though, one of my biggest pet peeves is still "female characters primarily defined by their crush (on some guy)".
I find it so strange that even though I ship IchiRuki hard, I should technically be all about IchiHime, yet I was never interested in Orihime.  Setting aside the fact that Rukia being so awesome is really distracting, Orihime is the ingenue archetype that I usually love.  So what gives?
I mean, if my NaruHina ship proves anything, it's that I don't care about how much time characters spend together, as long as they share the same core ideals/values.  So even if Orihime wasn't present for a lot of Ichigo's battles, nor the mental focus of their battles, then why wasn't I on the IchiHime ship?  Why didn't I even give Orihime a second thought?
It's not like Kubo didn't try hard to force IchiHime either.  He even did the cliche "they lock eyes slightly longer than normal, during character introductions into the series".  But that never effected me, so I don't need the ineffectiveness of that trope explained to me for this ship.  That whole Hueco Mundo rescue was even a blatant attempt to repeat what had worked with endearing Rukia's importance and bond with Ichigo, to the reader.  And yet, it still wasn't effective.
Then I remembered the prototype draft that Kubo originally had for Bleach.  That first mission of Ichigo's was all about saving Orihime, and Rukia was just a facilitator.  Sure, Orihime died, but the end of the chapter set-up a story pattern where ALL of Ichigo's shinigami adventures, every incident, would always involve Orihime and Rukia.  Because Orihime was dead, she was now a ghost, who would have been able to share in Ichigo's secret conflicts with Hollows, that he wouldn't have been able to talk about to anyone else...besides Rukia, who would probably be relegated to practical facilitator of powers.  Any other series would have had Orihime, being the hyper feminine childhood friend with a crush on protag-kun, serving as the emotional confidant, then turn Rukia into the 2-dimensional, no-nonsense, fight-focused, semi-mentor, who would only be able to express emotional attachment to Ichigo through annoying tsundere shenanigans.  Rukia would have been there more to service the plot, more than emotional endearment in the story.  At least, that's how these tropes and archetypes usually go in other Shonen series.  And I like those Shonen series.  Even Dog Days fulfills those criteria, and I ship those canon ships!  Hyper feminine ingenue and all!  If Bleach had kept to the cliches, the cliche ships would have worked too.
But Bleach didn't stick to the cliches, and I'm glad, because it made Rukia so much more dimensional and interesting, and the bond with Ichigo equally as refreshing.  I mean, I understand why it happened.  Any editor would have looked at the end of the original Bleach draft, and the future story it was setting up, and would have said "these 2 female ghost girls both being Ichigo's confidant in Hollow matters are redundant; merge their roles into one character".  Clearly, this was a decision forced onto Kubo, because his draft demonstrated that he originally wanted to do the cliche tropes and cliche ships, by separating the emotional confidant into the hyper feminine love interest, away from the pragmatic, plot-facilitating mentor character.
Imagine, when King Fisher attacked during their cemetery visit, Orihime had the conversation with Ichigo about not knowing how to breach the topic of his late mother "without it getting dirty. So I'll wait. When you want to talk, when you think it's okay to talk....talk to me" (Rukia, chapter 20).  Imagine, Orihime instead of Rukia, being the one who was arrested and taken back to Soul Society, somehow taking Ichigo's place, for punishment, in order to save him, just like Ichigo's mother had saved him and died in his stead, repeating the tragedy and reigniting the guilt that had been gnawing at him.  Imagine Orihime always just hanging around on the sidelines of battles, not even doing anything other than show the audience that Ichigo had very present and very constant emotional support through her, at every battle; then Orihime would have had all the intimate experience with all of Ichigo's struggles, enough be able to say "Even if no one in the world believes in you...Stick out your chest and scream in defiance!!  The Ichigo I know...is that kind of man!!!" (Rukia, chapter 196).  Even during one of those early Hollow hunts, when Ichigo decided he was going to save souls from Hollows, even though he was against becoming a Shinigami...Imagine Orihime being there just to reaffirm Ichigo's solidified emotional resolve, even for a moment, after settling the dispute with Rukia.  Any other Shonen series would have pulled that exact cliche hackneyed stuff.  But hell, even I have to admit that maybe it became a trope because it was effective.  All these key moments in Ichigo's character, his development, gaining that emotional Strength of his...If Orihime was much more involved in all those moments as they happened to Ichigo, then maybe I'd be an IchiHime shipper instead of an IchiRuki shipper.  ...Then again, if Orihime was allowed to stay a ghost so she could literally shadow Ichigo through all his emotional trials, then Rukia would've become the redundant character and been reduced to a flat, less interesting, purely plot functional role.  And that would have been nothing new; nothing interesting.  What we did get instead was a much more interesting character in Rukia and a much more refreshing character dynamic with Ichigo, different from most other Shonen series beforehand.
It's just too bad that Kubo really really really didn't want to do that, and just kept awkwardly pushing for the more cliche pairings, whenever he could, especially at the very end.
9:18 PM 9/13/2020 Why did I just ramble on about this?  I don't even remember Bleach all that much by now!  And I didn't even care enough to finish the series, after Rukia appeared less often.  Well, I may not be able to speak about the series as a complete work in detail, but I can explain the thoughts I had about the direction it was showing me it was going.  And I guess that's all I really wanted to ramble about.  At least to help me understand myself.
