I know that the propaganda posts up until now have been mostly silly and light-hearted, and for good reason. This is a fun and silly event! But here's a more serious reason I was Youngblood to win.

Youngblood (or at least the headcanon) is a black transwoman. How many black, transfem characters - or headcanons - can you think of? They're one of the most underrepresented communities, we all know this.

As a (mixed-race) black genderqueer sorta-woman, the transfem Youngblood headcanon means the world to me. I really can't stress that enough.

The other day a friend was telling me about how when he thinks of himself in the future, he doesn't see a happy thriving black transman. He sees a white guy. How fucked is that? How messed up is it that he can't even picture a future where all these parts of his identity coexist?

It's because - whether it be real people, canon characters, or headcanons - it's always the white trans people who are the most visible and get the most attention. That fact is just kinda miserable to live with honestly.

Youngblood is a black transwoman headcanon, which I came across not because I went searching for some representation out of pure desperation, but because I was already in the fandom! I already enjoyed the story! I came across this headcanon entirely naturally, the same way you would come across any other trans headcanon. You have no idea how happy that makes me.

It's worth voting for Youngblood, not just because she has awesome powers and is silly and grumpy and is all-round a wonderful character, but also to bring a little more attention to characters like her when so few ever get to see the spotlight.

And to be clear, I'm not saying fans can't vote for Lake, I'm definitely not saying that anyone who votes for Lake is doing it because they're bigoted. That's not what I mean at all.

What i mean is this: if you're currently on the fence about who to vote for - if you're not super invested in either show, or if you're really invested in both - consider voting for Youngblood. She means a lot to me, and I know I'm not the only one.

Proper & Professional Propaganda, or, Why You Should Vote For Youngblood Ra In The @anti-canon-trans-showdown

(because I wrote this essay to support headcanoning Youngblood as a trans woman, and switching pronouns makes this essay feel disunified, I use she/her pronouns for her throughout)

A large component of Youngblood's character is the theme of personal freedom. She's introduced to us as an elven bard with the ability to summon fire by singing, as well as a runaway from a bard college in a castle. She's secretive and careful, to the point that Roman remarks on her lack of trust often.

As the series has progressed, we've learned that she's fleeing not just a bard college, but an entire government, ruled by the Bard King. In addition, she is highly wanted for running away. Before she left, she was First Chair of the Bard King's marching band, which is the Bard King's military force and law enforcement, and the position of First Chair is one with a large amount of power and responsibility.

Why did she run away when she had such a grand position and the struggles of staying hidden are high? Well, there are multiple reasons, some of which we don't know fully yet, but a major factor was a need for freedom.

Her ability to summon fire drew the Bard King's interest to her, and he placed immense pressure on her to learn how to control her power so that she would be even more powerful. It was so important to him that he removed the eye of her friend Noise simply because they'd asked him to pressure Youngblood less after the stress culminated in Youngblood accidentally, but severely, burning their left arm while practicing. Her rejection of this control is so integral to why she ran away that when she explains her reasons to Roman, she phrases it as the main reason she left.

"The more and more I got better at controlling it, the more I started to realize that the college only wanted to make me into this singing- weapon, if you will. I didn't wanna be that! I just left."

So what does this have to do with headcanoning her as a trans woman? Simple. It emphasizes her struggle for freedom. She wanted control over her own life, she wanted to be her authentic self, and she refused to let anyone else make the choice of who she was for her. It's important enough to her that she's willing to make hard choices and fight for it. She's found joy in using her voice as she wants to, instead of playing by the rules of any higher power for what they want her voice to be.

She's found Roman, who supports and admires her despite having only met her recently, and who'll fight alongside her just to help her. She's found Noise again, and they're on complicated terms, but at least, she's gotten to start to know Noise again, with both of them being very different people from who they used to be. She's found a new life for herself, and one she's happier in.

Is that freshly found authenticity not enough for you to support her too?

Lilo and Stitch. Kirk and Spock. Batman and Superman. Over and over, our stories LOVE to make earthlings and aliens besties. And why shouldn't they?? Aliens are great! But what is the BEST earthling-alien duo? That is what we are here to decide! Submit YOUR duos, and watch them duke it out in a battle of propaganda and unfettered favoritism!

Rules:

No real people. MCYT roleplay (and other forms of roleplay, if it is indeed clear that it is roleplay) IS ALLOWED, though, as long as being an alien is canonical to the character and not a fanon interpretation.

"Besties" is a catchall for any type of relationship, be it romantic or platonic or a secret third thing, so feel free to submit any relationship type!

Submit as many duos as you like, but only submit each duo ONCE. Don't spam, it's rude and risks eliminating that duo entirely.

I will only allow TWO duos per fandom into the bracket. This is to keep fandoms that are earthling-alien duo heavy (cough Homestuck Doctor Who Star Trek ETC. cough) from overtaking the bracket. This DOES NOT mean you can't submit as many duos from a fandom as you like, but do take this into consideration when submitting and asking your friends to submit.

I use some examples of earthling-alien duos here as well as in my clarification post, but I DON'T have any default duos lined up. Submit your guys if you want to be Sure that they'll be up for consideration!

Twin Tournament- Who’s the top twin pair?

I noticed that a lot of shows I watch have at least one pair of twins in them…I haven’t seen a poll like this yet so why not make a bracket where they FIGHT TO THE DEATH? (Jk…well still battling but this is all for fun!)

Mainly inspired by @skittlesquadsquabble and @anti-canon-trans-showdown, but in general from all the cool brackets people are making!

Just a couple of rules:

Only fictional twin pairs are allowed to be submitted

You are allowed to submit multiple different twin pairs, but don’t spam submit the same twin pairs

However, if your fandom has multiple different twin pairs you are allowed to submit those pairs separately. Which ever pair has the most submissions will be accepted into the brackets to represent your fandom!
