Just wanted to add to your excellent discourse (please ignore if your sick of it) that while clearly the show (really C*rina) wanted to give us the it's All Alex's Fault narrative in S1, 1x06 screwed that up for them. I think it was just a way to justify Alex getting involved in Jesse's alien agenda, but because the showrunner wasn't big on backstory, she didn't anticipate that all Alex's actions take on a very different flavor when he's viewed, like Michael, as a traumatized, abused adult.

it sometimes takes longer to regenerate the spoons to express myself, but the topic of Alex and *waves a hand* everything really is one I still have a lot to express about, so here goes.

I think you're right on the money that CAM didn't anticipate fandom's reaction to Alex. It's clear she didn't realize what Malex would mean to queer audiences, or she wouldn't have done what she's done with s2. Full disclosure, I realize there are queer fans who fully enjoyed it. I mean that for a lot of us, Malex was a first story of it's kind - a same sex Epic Destined Soulmates Shit. And it's partly why we've glomped so hard on it and consequently were horrified at how s2 tore that aspect of the story down (especially in the stark contrast to Echo's treatment). But just as importantly, I suspect she was quite (negatively) surprised at the reception of Alex himself.

She molded a lot of the RNM characters with a definite agenda (which I approve of, whatever her motivation), racebending and queering them etc. left, right and center. The issue is, she tacked on the various characteristics and backstories (insofar as she made them) without thinking through and realizing what consequences they would actually have for the characters, as in how they would inform their actions and our perceptions of them. The particular intersection of gay, disabled vet and CA survivor with PTSD, absent Indigenous mother and shitbag homophobic abuser father didn’t have any significant meaning to her, so why should it have to the audiences? It’s pretty clear from her interviews, that the teacher’s pet was Michael (and spoiler alert, not Trevino), the sexy bad boy whom she tried to mold into Dean Winchester formula, but made him explicitly bi and for more whump gave him more storied history of child abuse and queer trauma. Alex was supposed to be a backdrop for him, a make-out partner - it’s clear she never intended to explore his story or his point of view, didn’t even have the backstory on his time in the AF (cue his totally different rank in pilot vs rest of the series) or how he lost his leg (the story we heard in 308 is so criminally under-researched there’s no way they sat on it for 3 years; never mind that CAM openly admitted to not having backstories for characters at all just because). But if she wanted the audiences not to care (that much / more than about her darlings) for Alex, you are right, she screwed up.

106 did a lot of the heavy lifting here by exposing and accidentally hinting at the horrific abuse Alex went through. As you noticed, it made audiences view Alex’s actions through a different lens. We’ve realized for example what must’ve been his thoughts and feelings in 103, when he was confronted by his abuser, the same man who permanently disfigured Michael with impunity, now giving subtle hints how Alex just being seen with him is inappropriate... you get my drift. But! what’s fascinating, is that CAM didn’t. In one of the camsplaining tweets she mentioned that Alex was simply ashamed of Michael in this scene. And honey, you may have intended it this way, but just by giving a hint of this character’s backstory you’ve given us a completely different perspective, not our fault you can’t see it yourself.

106 backstory gave us the core of Alex’s motivations, making him a fascinating character we could start to understand instead of just a tortured gay lover #2 (the one who’s sole fault it is Malex doesn’t work out). Other episodes of s1 also showed us facets of Alex that complemented and filled out that silhouette, like showing us how the grown up abuse survivor confronts his abusers (forgive but not forget for Kyle, karmic retribution and stopping the harm with Jesse), how despite/due to his shitty family situation he’s the one taking care of the emotional needs of his childhood found family of Liz, Maria and Mimi (!), etc. etc. Notice that after s1, this branching out - Alex having storylines separate from Michael that show off his character - is severely curtailed if not stopped completely: all his interactions with Maria are about Michael, the entirety of Forlex is just a foil for Malex and so on. So I have a sneaking suspicion she (really, they) did realize they made Alex too relatable, too interesting, too bloody important to people, and needed to dial it back so this character could fall back into his predestined groove of the scapegoat for everything bad in Malex and in general. Because as we know, if in doubt, it’s All Alex’s Fault, but that’s a rant for a different occasion :)

She detailed mental health, health, having boundaries and even given some thoughts on how that has changed her life or blended with her career. She’s very aware that she and Bonnie had plenty of disadvantages than her co-stars and other characters because of her race. Whether that be love interests, clothing, hair or Bonnie having agency. To quote her directly: “had I been a caucasian female I do think the writing would’ve been different”

It’s just as important to hear this from her perspective first and foremost as much as the fans rallied behind her then and now.

Station19 : 6x02 : Are station19 ok ?

The obvious theme on this episode and the last one is clearly Maya and Jack the two messed up people of this station. But are They ?

TW : mention of sexual assault  Because believe me when i say, Vic is next into spiraling out of control. She being all “ oh Carina married Maya without knowing that she’s a blackmailler” bitch  shut up, you’re next. You know what Karma is ? watch it. , jesus, Vic honey why are you opening up your mouth ? why ? she hide her pregnancy, she spend her time lying and being oblivious and she open her mouth gossiping ? why ? just shut up. That all i have to say. Beside the fact that she is insecure and selfish too. Wanna talk about the time you didn’t care about Theo’s feeling? Your body, your choice, won’t argue it, won’t dispute it, it’s you’re right. When theo talk to her, she didn’t care. And basically theo said “ i cried, because i was hurt you ignore me and left me out”. But Vic espect the other shoe to drop, but why ? Is it because you know that you left him out of you decision ? again your body your choice but at least talk to your patner, say “ listen i don’t want a child right now, maybe  later,  but for now i’m not ready, can you accept that?”  

Travis is being out there stating over and over again the same thing while his station encourages him while ignoring what he is saying. Jesus. Travis have always said he want to run for mayor to steal vote from dickson, great name for a great pun. He never said he wanted to be mayor, he said i want to run for mayor so dickson can’t be, can be any other person. 

Amusing how Ross use it and the firefighter names to provoke dickson. Jack is just out of control but he has being for a while, for those who missed it, rewatched it will be obvious. dude learn he is a bother an uncle, wanted to rekindle with his foster sibling but failed miserably, understandably i must say, being in the foster system is never kind, he literally admit that he was sexually abused so.. there’s that,  Carina was abuse mentaly and sexually because it was the theme of the day. Sorry but at this point if Maya goes to a therapist and say that her father abused her more than physically i will not be surprise, she start to spiraled after Andy’s attacked, so there’s that.  Beside Carina trying for a child which doesn’t help that Maya is going out of hand and hurting. She’s scared, hurt, fells like being rejected, inside and out, literally. So yeah she’s hurting and still in control somewhat. Watch out for Italian women they are strong. I think that she’s hurt that, her wife doesn’t trust her enough to tell her something as important as the backmailled, but more importantly, why Maya wants to be captain. For her it’s because Maya  have a goal that she have to obtain. But : Something Carina doesn’t get or at least don’t understand, Maya have choose her. Yeah she reverted back to her old self, but Maya have made Carina her priority. Her captaincy is because being a person or people pleaser isn’t easy to get ride off. But Maya did choose her, She doesn’t care if she’s promoted back to probe as long as it’s fair. Her demotion isn’t fair. Her watching sullivan and beckett being at each other throat for the post is just ridiculous at this point. Yeah beckett is sober, allegedly, but how can we know ? Andy did most of the work as much as captain and as a lieutenant. Maya at this point barely care about her job, she cares that she his helping and that her wife is happy, and now ? none of that works. She’s demoted for unfairly reason, she pointed out the obvious ( do we need to talk about the time she call Diane for help for the death of George Floyd because she didn’t know how to help and clearly her team was affected or are we going to ignore that?) She see her team, but right now she can’t see them because the team is a wreck, the team is messed up, all because, she decided that saving a life was more important than a lawsuit, that they would win btw. She was saving a life, like a doctor would do. Like a fucking firefighter is supposed to do. Anyway. She prioritize a life over paper. At what point did fighting fire and being a paramedic come over paper ? i don’t know, ask Travis. He would know either anyway. She did nothing wrong, but she is punish, and right now she is pushed back into her childhood where her father would treat her unfairly and smash a boll into the wall because she help someone in needs. Ring a bell ? If not, re watch. Pretty sure you’ll see it. Someone point out that Maya isn’t that bad, and that her treatment is more or less unfair. She help a life, and got blame for it, she was so aware that she saw what no one else saw, and Ross as long as sullivan deny it, and beckett who was drunk during work, brought out by sullivan got away with it with nothing. Sullivan, beckatt and at this point Ross is in the wrong and they still think they are right.  That communication. And Fuck these people need to talk. Bring Back Diane for the love of god because those people are so not okay.

Yeah! I’ve seen that video on tiktok recently not only did Carina Mackenzie admitted she struggle writing spells but continued to google and use someone else’s culture. Then her and Riley both laughed about the phone call. Weird as hell given that’s someone’s actual culture and practice.

There’s one thing to not believe in someone’s culture (juju, voodoo, hoodoo…) etc but if you’re constantly pulling and nitpicking at it for your own content you have no room to label someone crazy. It’s even worst when you look TO’s version of New Orleans compared to other versions of New Orleans in media. Everyone in TO’s version is white, besides a few characters but for the majority from the main cast to the background characters are white. Yet, you have New Orleans depicted in Princess in the frog—diverse, AHS:Coven-diverse. We really didn’t get black main characters (and they were temporary) until fans complained and TO frequently did a body-jump as placeholders.

There’s also another instance of how the writers took and manipulated culture is in (2x13) when the wolves are throwing/laying brooms at Jayley’s door, which Jackson explained “jumping the broom” meant jumping into bed with your partner. When jumping the broom was created during slavery and never about rushing to have sex with your partner.

There’s more to name that occurred but yeah white people will use up someone else’s culture and get mad you dare correct them on it. I mean look at how they react when black women tell them not to wear box braids. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Carina sat at a table in the hotels banquet room, where the team was going to meet up all together for the first time for the U-18 IIHF Championship, Carina felt someone sit next to her and she looked up her face in her normal glare, Clayton Keller sat next to her giving her a nudge to her shoulder smiling at her.

“Keller.” Carina bluntly greeted him, Carina and Clayton having known each other for a while now.

“Kniesy!” Clayton smiled happily not at all bothered at her bluntly tone and glare on her face knowing that’s just how Carina is, “Did you meet everyone yet?” Clayton also knew Carina hates most people as she is the biggest anti people person ever.

Carina grunted and shook her head.

Clayton smiled and looked around who is the closeted, “Wolly!” Clayton called out to Joseph Woll, who turned around and smiled walking over to the two.

“Hey.” Joseph smiled brightly his eyes lingering longer on the beautiful girl next to Clayton.

“Wolly this Carina, Kniesy this is Joseph.” Clayton happily introduced the two noticing how Joseph eyes kept looking back at her.

“Hi!” Joseph brightly beamed at her giving her his whole attention.

Carina eyebrow raised at how bright his smile was and nodded slightly, Joseph didn’t seemed bothered by her response just kept smiling.

“Don’t mind her, she’s a grumpy one.” Clayton teased his friend nudging her, Carina just rolled her eyes sharply elbowing him back.

Joseph just smiled and sat at the seat next to Carina, just as the coach walked in and everyone took a seat at all the different tables.

“Get to know each other, you’re a team now.” The coach finished off his talk about what they want to achieve in this tournament and how he hopes they play, he finished talking and headed to a table with the staff letting the team get to know each other.

“You’re a center right?” Joseph turned his attention back to Carina once the meeting was over.

Carina nodded slightly, not loving how he keeps involving her in the conversation as she hates making conversation and does he always have to have such a bright smile and happy personality.

“That’s sick.” Joseph grinned having thought it’s amazing that she is on the boys team and can obviously easily keep up and keeps all of them in their toes with her skills.

Carina continued to sit quietly as the table talked and she could tell Joseph was trying to bring her into the conversation but she would rather not.

Carina saw some of the players leaving after a little while and she got up just as she felt her phone buzz and she saw a facetime from her brothers she started walking out of the room and answered their facetime.

Joseph watched her leave with heart eyes and a goofy smile and was so focused on her leaving he didn’t even realize he was being very obvious.

“Oh buddy.” Clayton winced in sympathy knowing Carina will probably never give him a chance, Clayton patted him on the shoulder.

Joseph snapped out of his day dream and turned to Clayton, “What?”

“Don’t, Kniesy doesn’t do relationships.” Clayton knew that if she does have a relationship in the future the perosn is going to be quite special to be able to break through her walls.

“I wasn’t.” Joseph weakly denied, all he could think about is how beautiful she was.
