the greek tragedy that is also known as jason todd

thinking about jason todd as a character and what a genuinely tragic character he is.

jason is a character that can never know peace nor justice because the narrative itself will never let him have that peace. the moment DC made the decision to have the joker kill him is the moment his fate was sealed.

joker as a character can't be killed or stopped permanently in any meaningful way, because out of all the batman villains that exist, such an iconic figure could never truly leave the story behind whether it be through death or irrelevance outside the story.

so what then?

batman will continue to stop the joker, continue to put him back in akrham asylum, all the the joker will continue to break out.

but if the joker can't be stopped, then what does this mean for jason?

imagine, your tormentor, your murderer continuing to commit the same atrocities over and over again...and for what? where is the justice in this? how could jason ever move on, if the narrative won't move on from the joker himself?

i know plenty of characters "die" in about every other comic run followed by some type of revival but i cannot emphasis enough that jason todd was not originally intended to come back. death in the family released sometime in 1988 while under the red hood began its publication in 2005

that's roughly 17 years that jason was no longer present in new comic runs, almost a generation or two of comic readers not getting any content that involved him.

nothing to show except sentiment like "oh he was an angry kid", or "he was reckless, bruce shouldn't have taken him in".

jason didn't just die within the narrative, he died from the apathy of phone callers despite outcry. he died of irrelevance because for more than a decade, he had faded from comic relevance aside from some mentions in comic runs (at least until winick resurrected his character).

i honestly don't think there's another character quite like jason who miserably gets all the short end of the sticks. his time spent dead gets treated by such a joke because, wow jason, you're not the only one who's died!

but none have died quite like jason. he can't get any peace or justice from the narrative because dc comics would have the balls to retire an iconic character from the batman comics. and he can't forget because if he forgets, who will remember for him?

coupled with all of that together... wouldn't you get angry?

Because if you knew and truly cared about animals and their welfare, you wouldn’t be talking like PETA. Here’s a trick to other disability activists: learn about animal welfare by volunteering on farms and educating yourself on breeders and the industry rather than getting involved in PETA! And another critical trick: NEVER compare animals to people! That’s exactly what the freaks that think any living thing with a deformity that should die are doing. These people would clutch their pearls the moment they hear farms cull undesirable animals bc they can’t afford to keep every single one and have to streamline their breeding and raising to what will help keep the farm running. That doesn’t mean these farmers want to do the same to people, because the animal is NOT a person and doesn’t live like one. Our lives are not even remotely comparable! People like OP are the people that keep a wild bird with an amputated wing alive bc in their mind it would be insinuating all amputees should die if the bird is put down, and next thing the bird is on the Dodo as inspiration porn. Duex Face is an exception to two headed animals, not the rule. Don’t tell me to do my research when you’re spouting talking points from people that have caused more problems for animals as a whole second only to the commercialization of animal industry. Maybe you need some research (field research) instead! They’re going to block me and I’m assuming that’s why I can’t rb the post anymore even if I wanted to (like I said I didn’t want to start a fight so like. I’m not going to be yelling and acting like an asshole. I swore a bit in the tags initially bc I feel very strongly about how animal rights activists have fucked up disability activism by acting like there’s equivalency in our existences, but that’s not targeted. Most was going to respond telling them that if they feel this strongly they need to be reading more about the animal industry rather than relying on people that are in no way experts on animals talking as an authority on them, and using that to tie with their human rights activism as if animals rights and humans rights are even remotely the same in any way. I want to bring up something serious here for once, because I joined a new Silmarillion group on FB (I'm old, ok?), and it's a particularly inclusive space BUT, because of that, there is a lot of debates going on. And I wasn't allowed to make this point there because the admins were saturated with risky posts.

I have seen a lot of people say things like "Tolkien wasn't racist/anti semitic because he was against fascism!". And I'm not here to discuss the logic on that, or accuse Tolkien of any of those. I'm here to bring up the fact that Tolkien supported Franco.

I get that to most people (even to me) he is not as well known as Hitler or Mussolini, but still. Tolkien supported him, a fascist and a terrible dictator, because of anti communism and very Catholics views. Franco's opposition burned catholic churches and killed nuns and priests. Now, I don't want to get into detail about the reasons behind that, and how different those actions are viewed depending on your history (For Tolkien, to whom being catholic make him part of a minority, this was very different to what it's for people from actual catholic countries in general and latin Americans in particular, in which the church, as an institution, was always complicit of dictatorships and oppression).

Even Lewis had called Roy Campbell, a poet who fought with Franco, as a sort of catholic fascist. And Tolkien considered that Lewis was just under the influence of red propaganda, believing only the things said against Franco. He couldn't understand Lewis reactions to Campbell's stories about his fight

This is mostly talked about in letter 83 which, I must admit, I haven't read. I have read other people's summaries of it. If anyone knows of some place where I could read it, please reach out and tell me.

My point here is not bashing on Tolkien. I've decided long ago I prefer not to engage too much with his personal history, since my position as a latin american, born so many years after him, raised as a catholic in a catholic country, with a VERY different history around it, makes my personal views very opposed to his in many levels.

My point is to bring awareness on the fact that Tolkien did indeed support one fascist regimen, and this is ignored by most people. I think it's not just that Franco is not as known for some as the other two, it's also that he seems to have a very different weight for those that speak Spanish and those who don't. For starters, this facts it's not included in his English wiki, while it's included on the one in Spanish. For me, that I usually try to read the English sources for English themed things, this meant that I didn't know about this until some days ago, and I learnt it through a meme.

So yeah, I just needed to tell this in case some other people are just as ignorant as me on this. Because the whole "Tolkien was against fascism" is something I have read too many times and never questioned, tbh. But maybe it was just me.

Ingo: Best uncle. Bonded with Ara over mutual amnesia and love of Pokemon, does his best to care for and support her when she needs it. Saved her life once or twice in Hisui. When they returned to the future and Ara was struggling to readjust, he made sure to be there for her and help her with stress and guilt from not remembering her friends and family.
