I think part of why people are so upset about wags not having jobs is the idea that you have to EARN a living, you have to somehow "deserve" nice things or else you're Morally Wrong. Needless to say that attitude is really fucked up and depressing, so let's Not

Because you’re right. We do live in this culture (mostly) where it’s about “hustle” and “earning” and “meritocracy”. It’s the “American dream” repackaged. You must be deserving of your privilege. It’s an aspirational attitude that keeps people working.

Because it’s really unpalatable to people to think that wealth is not “deserved”, and it comes in its highest quantities to people who often haven’t worked for it. It would be really depressing to accept that you might have to work your whole life, and be very “deserving” only to get a fraction of what someone else gets just for being born. Or for being pretty. Or for being at the right place at the right time.

It’s depressing but it’s also…reality 😂 but you can’t sell people corporate slavery with reality.

So you just tell them that if they work more, they will deserve more, and allow them to feel morally superior by being lower down the pecking order. Keeps them motivated.

Add in some fifth wave feminism about “equality” and we have “hOw DaRe ShE jUsT fOlLoW hEr BoYfRieNd ArOunD tHe WoRLd” 😂 bitches on Twitter be like “could never be me” as if anyone asked them.
