One of the reasons I love Sáenz's writing so much is that he has such a love for his characters that you can't help loving them, too, and imagining them while dragging yourself into their story. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is my first encounter with Sáenz. It has stirred my emotion but I love them even more after reading the continuity of their story in Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World. Dante and Aristotle have become more mature here, as well as their love towards each other meanwhile conflicts are getting more complex. The Inexplicable Logic of My Life is a little bit flat to me even though the book still stirs my emotion. It's still cheesy but it also gives me some warmth while reading it. What I love the most is how this book shows me a different kind of love from the family and close friend perspectives. Returning to my love towards Sáenz's. What I also love is the fact that he uses beautiful imagery and creates some poetic moments, even if at times some friction would have been avoided if people just said what they felt. But ultimately, these books teach me to let myself be loved, and that no matter what my background or life situation is, I am entitled to dream and believe in myself. I as well my existence are matter in someone's life. I guess I will sit and wait for Sáenz's next book, readying for some kinds of lovely warm feelings and rolling my eyeballs out again. finished Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of The Universe after so long. honestly got lost not reading it constantly so i might re-read :( i’m bad with reviews but this book felt like discovering the secrets of the universe on my own. it was comforting & gentle & the feeling you have when you look at photos of the universe in space. it’s a good book bcos i cried hahahsjsk. and to share some of my favorite lines:

“I bet you could sometimes find all the mysteries of the universe in someone’s hand.”

“Your smile is back” That’s what Dante said.

“Smiles are like that. They come and go.”

“One of the secrets of the universe was that our instincts were sometimes stronger than our minds.”

“Another secret of the universe: Sometimes pain was like a storm that came out of nowhere. The clearest summer morning could end in a downpour. Could end in lightning and thunder.”

Learned so much about vocab, poetry, literature and art in this book 🥺❤️‍🩹

Non ama stare con gli altri ragazzi, li considera un po' ottusi ma poi arriva Dante e da quel momento non è più triste, lui gli ricorda come si fa a ridere. 👍🏻 Aristotele è un personaggio complesso. Ha un rapporto fantastico con la madre, si capiscono subito ma tra lui e il padre c'è come una barriera di cose non dette. Ari è strapieno di sentimenti e pensieri ma non riesce a farli uscire, li tiene dentro e questi lo appesantiscono. 👍🏻 Dante è simile a lui ma anche diverso. Lui è un mistero in un universo pieno di misteri. The title intrigues me simply because I am a huge fan of Dante Alighieri. I always find his unrequited love to Beatrice as something moving, profonding and beautiful since I've read La Vita Nova by the age of 8. The love story in this book is without exception. With two Mexican-American youngster; this book does not only portray a life of the Mexican-American but also about adolescence and all the doubts it brings with it: the searching of one’s sexual identity, their roots, and how to balance their life. Their story does seem so real that it makes me smile and cry at the same time. It gave me a reflection: that we have to see the world from another perspective, the better one. Ari and Dante taught me that we need to be grateful for every smallest thing in life like holding hand, watching the sunset, reading on the sofa after a tiring day. In the end, happiness is the simplicity that we bring into our life. Some may find this book as a slow-paced one. I do believe we need it because it gives more spaces for both heroes to develop their characters and to discover the secret of their “universe.” The secret of the universe they offer is basically not a real secret but how to become mature and to grow as a person.
