This was a process on me attaching on the sleeve on my top by overlocking the arm hole before sewing it on by a 1 cm distance.I used the overlocker to finish this area off.

a lot of people, when they start learning how to sew, will see instructions about pressing carefully and staystitching and basting and grainline and machine tension and such, and will go "ehh, I can ignore that and save some time" and then later they'll go "why do my seams look so bad? :(" and. well.. that's why.

#and that was me to some degree for a good long while #mainly with basting. god I hated basting for so so long #but now it's my beloved way to the nicest neatest flat felled seams. basting is good! #I also stubbornly refused to learn to use a thimble until I was forced to for work #and it turns out thimbles are great! #sewing #I never skimped out on ironing at least! you NEED to press your seams dammit! #I also don't usually do staytstitching because it's not necessary on my 18th century tailored & square cut things #but for stuff like rayon summer nightgowns with curved necklines and armholes? IMPERATIVE!

omg i went to the niiiiicest chic little hanbok store in new jersey yesterday they are called "the hanbok" at fort lee, the two ladies working there was soooo so so sooooo sweet and nice and welcoming 😭 i really recommend them if anyone in the area needs to rent or get custom stuff made LOL i've been to two local shops in nyc and honestly i was kind of intimidated by the ladies that owned the shops, maybe cuz they were older women and they seemed strict idk thats a ME problem but the women at the hanbok were so chill and i wasnt as scared there 🤣 i looked at a bunch of their swatches but its like playing 4d chess picking the colors cuz the swatches are taped in 2 layers, with the upper layer going over the lower layer, so its 1 layer of fabric on the white board, and 2 layers of fabric hanging off the board and IT LOOKS SO DIFFERENT cuz the material is translucent so the color changes depending on whether its single or double layer, and if its against white or colored lining? so i feel like the final product will be gacha again idk. also i shouldve prefaced by saying i got custom hanbok made from korea but obvs couldnt see the swatches irl and lemme tell u the pink photographs pink but irl its more peach so 😵‍💫 the cut and fit of it is nearly perfect tho so im still v happy w it! i took it to new jersey so the hanbok shop can recreate it with new fabric lol

see it looks so baby pink in da pics lol trickery. the underskirt the korean person send me is kind of a stiff mesh / organza layered thing, it has nice volume for pics but i feel like bc its more stiff the movement is less swishy irl? the new jersey shop is gonna make smth more layered with normal fabric so hopefully that works out better??

also im wondering if i should have asked to make the skirt shorter cuz the feet showing under is act kind of cute and practical? the current skirt is floor length lol. the feet is a nice silhouette break. i have a fitting at the end of july so maybe i can ask then 👉👈

started working on jousters sweater hehe..had to tweak the pattern a bit bc it was kind of absurdly big but hopefully the design will still read okay w less detail. also using multiple colors is nowhere near as hard as i expected it to be…… granted i did kind of start making it up as i went based off of like one and a half tutorials i watched but i think it’s turning out fine so far.

#started w the back panel just bc i got rid of armhole shaping so it’s basically just a square….less to mess up #i think i’d also love to do a repeating arch motif on the sleeves but we’ll deal with that when we get there. #OOO also maybe like black and white stripe ribbing……. idk how to do that but it could be cool #also idk i got kind of freaked out when i was doing research bc so many reddit posts were like DO NOT use pixel art as patterns #because knit stitches are so very lightly wider than they are tall……. #but idk…. is it really that serious? not to me. #idk i think it will be fine especially since i did a little test swatch w the color changes #and it ended up being stretched out more vertically than just my single color swatch. #and also this is just a fun project for ME.
