A Free Fall update:

Whew... Weird how when some really awful IRL stuff has just finished slamming me, I'm beginning to feel like I can push on with Chapter 3 of Free Fall... and the edits that have been circling me, twittering like little cartoon birds.

So without further ado... The fic may drop off a chapter at a time while I close it for 'maintenance'.

But...

It WILL be back 😉 And hopefully worth the wait!

hey! just saw your reply & im very sorry if i came across antagonizing! i use my blog to post thoughts and never really make direct replies.. *usually* in an attempt to avoid conflict lmao. your reply really clears up your interpretation & I agree with a lot of what you're saying! The writing in your initial post felt much less nuanced, which left me with a wrong impression. I'm very sorry about that! (also part 5 is not really within my "expertise", i definitely got some facts wrong there oops)

HEY! I can't tell you how fuzzy I feel seeing this in my inbox. You struck me as a real fan and a good person from the get-go, and I hope in my reply I addressed your points and didn't make you feel like I was attacking you or being mean. Altho I know I can be terse...😩...I don't think there's value in being petty over this stuff. It was important in some of the other interactions I had last night that I wasn't myself and wasn't gonna stand for people coming here to pull petty shit towards you.

And don't apologize for your interpretation. That post alone responds to the ask posed, without addressing all the facets of his character or going into great depth on any one point. It was I think the jumping-off post for me on delving into his character actually. I hope my (embarrassingly extensive lol) body of work on Giorno Giovanna helps to clarify how I see him as a character. Cos again you're right, he is nuanced, and I argue he has a moral code that's a lot more gray than black or white, which speaks directly to that nuance. Araki writes some damn great characters. Well and also Rubber Soul but that's another conversation...

i can't help but notice that they decided to go with the collar look for DIO... he only wears it in the stairs scene with Polnareff but it feels like 90% of his merch and most of his game models depict him with it lmfao

It’s like he said to himself ‘this doesn’t work together as a look’ and took off the dog collar before he went out in his cape. Dio really did this.

bruno's 'chest tat' doesn't look like lace, it actually is lace, not a tattoo! hims wearing lingerie....

I can't remember which way around it goes but i think that it's different between the manga and anime, one version says its a tattoo and the other says it's lingerie, which is HILARIOUS to me because it's like a Choose Your Own Adventure/Mandela Effect situation where you can decide which version of Bruno Being Like That (TM) you prefer to take as canon. And both options are SO GOOD

so @ jjba figures, i'm a huge fan of the chara hero line of collectible mini figures, a lot of people really hate it lmao but i think they are really intriguing, made with clear love for the series. i recently realized that the same guy who sculpted these figures has been making many of the recent jojo prize figures and im 😬................ i've hated almost every prize figure that's been coming out lately and it was so shocking to find out they were sculpted by the same guy who made a line that's so near and dear to my heart lmao 😭

Oh yeah the Chara Heroes line is good, I acually hav the Terence figure from it. I feel like they have a really cool "rough" sculpt to them that gives them a lot of detail via natural shadows and highlights without relying too heavily on paint jobs which is a big issue for tiny figures that are hard to paint. I 100% agree I think the line is great and I'm also surprised that the same guy have been doing the prize figures... The older prize figures are so much better even with the weird lego base lmao

i both love and hate the tragedy of polnareff because on one hand it's so well written and makes for such an interesting character (that survivor guilt, over and over and over.........) but on the other hand,, w h y.

Sometimes I wonder if Araki himself even realized how complex Polnareff’s entire character arc is while he was writing it - in Part 3 alone he has the kind of complex character development we only see again with Johnny in Part 7 (Okuyasu, Koichi, Narancia and Foo Fighters also have noteworthy evolutions in my opinion but not to the extent that Polnareff does) and the fact that he goes through so many overwhelmingly poetic moments...

The whole symbology with the stairs in his confrontations with DIO (God) and Diavolo (the Devil), the whole survivor guilt you mentioned, coming to terms with Sherry’s death, learning to rely on others from Kakyoin and Avdol, helping Jotaro loosen up and show his friendly side, protecting that woman against Alessi (while having the brain of a child, mind you, even as a child he already had a strong sense of honor and selflessness) being willing to sacrifice himself for Iggy, HELL HE EVEN WANTED TO BE FRIENDS WITH ENYA BECAUSE HE FELT BAD THAT SHE’D LOST A SON and so many more moments I could spend hours listing and analyzing them all!

My point is that Polnareff remains an underrated character who goes through a lot in a short span of time and his whole arc is a shinning example of how good of a character-creator Araki actually is - I feel like his merit sometimes gets overshadowed by his art skills and his ability to create and apply bold concepts to his narratives but he’s crafted some very deep characters as well!
